Alaska governor accepted more than $55,000 in hunting-related gifts last year

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy received gifts worth more than $55,000 in support of his 2023 hunting activities, according to his recently filed financial disclosure.

The governor has accepted gifts to support his hunts regularly since he was elected governor, but the value of last year's hunts exceeds what he's reported in previous years.

Dunleavy reported receiving a guided spring bear hunt and guided fall moose hunt by Alaska outfitter Sam Fejes at a combined value of between $50,000 and $100,000.

In February of last year, a 10-day bear hunt in May "with special guest Alaska's Governor Mike Dunleavy" was sold in auction for $25,000. The auction was to benefit safari club International, a pro-hunting group.

Dunleavy spokesperson Grant Robinson declined to answer questions on the auctioned hunt, including who won the auction and who attended the hunt with the governor. Fejes did not respond to phone calls and emails seeking information on the hunts.

Fejes contributed $6,000 to Dunleavy's campaign ahead of the 2022 election.

Dunleavy was at the bear hunt when the Legislature called into a special session in May, after failing to pass a budget during the regular 121-day session.

Dunleavy was also seen at a Texas rodeo in February of last year, around when an unidentified high-altitude object was shot down off Alaska's coast.

Dunleavy spokespeople declined to immediately answer questions about the dates that Dunleavy was out hunting and who accompanied him on his hunting trips, asking instead for the questions to be submitted through a formal records request.

According to this year's report, Dunleavy received gifted hunting trips from two Texas hunters last year - Ronnie Urbanczyk and Billy Robinson, both of whom have given Dunleavy hunting-related gifts in the past three years.

Dunleavy reported that Urbanczyk gave him a shotgun, quail hunt, hat, shells, rodeo ticket and semi-automatic pistol valued between $5,000 and $10,000 last year.

Urbanczyk reportedly gave Dunleavy in 2022 a tanned cowhide and a cooler of game meat worth a combined $310. The year before, Urbanczyk gifted Dunleavy a hunt worth between $5,000 and $10,000.

Robinson gave Dunleavy last year two shotguns and a chartered helicopter ride for a "hunting trip amongst friends" worth $639.

Robinson in previous years gave Dunleavy a taxidermied wildebeest head and horns worth at least $1,000; a gun, a chartered helicopter ride, a taxidermied deer head, and a gemsbok head worth at least $3,000; and meat processing of two gemsbok white tail worth at least $2,000.

The two Texas hunters also contributed large sums to Dunleavy's 2022 election campaign. Robinson reported contributing $26,000 to Dunleavy's campaign. Urbanczyk's wife, Terry, reported contributing $50,000.

Dunleavy, an avid sportsman, has previously suggested establishing a huntable population of deer in the Mat-Su Valley. This year, he attempted to move the approval process for the introduction of invasive species from the Board of Game to the governor-appointed commissioner of fish and game. The proposed change was explained in part as meant to ease the process of introducing animals for hunting. That attempt was blocked by the Legislature.

As Talbot explains, "What I was really trying to do was a biography on the American power elite from World War II up to the 60s." It's a huge, sprawling book, and an amalgam of all the appalling things Dulles and his cohort definitely did, things the evidence suggests they probably did, and speculation about things they might plausibly have done. More than a biography, it's a exploration of well-organized pathology.

It includes detailed reexaminations of Dulles's most notorious failures, such as the Bay of Pigs in 1961 and the nightmarish mind control program MK-ULTRA, as well as his most notorious "successes," the CIA's overthrow of democratic governments in Iran in 1953 and in Guatemala in 1954. Talbot notes that an internal CIA account of the Iran coup fairly glowed with joy: "It was a day that never should have ended. For it carried with it such a sense of excitement, of satisfaction and of jubilation that it is doubtful whether any other can come up to it." According to a participant in an Oval Office briefing for President Eisenhower, Dulles's brother John Foster, then secretary of state, "seemed to be purring like a giant cat."

But by this point these events are fairly well-known. Perhaps most compelling is Talbot's in-depth look at Dulles's lesser-known yet still extraordinarily sordid projects. As the Swiss director of the Office of Strategic Services during World War II, Dulles - whose law firm had represented German corporations and many U.S. corporations with German interests - quietly attempted to undermine Franklin D. Roosevelt's demand that Germany surrender unconditionally, going so far as to order the rescue of an SS general surrounded by Italian partisans. Dulles also led the push to save Reinhard Gehlen, Nazi head of intelligence on the Eastern Front and a genuine monster, from any post-war justice. Dulles then made certain Gehlen and his spies received a cozy embrace from the CIA, and helped push him to the top of West Germany's Federal Intelligence Service.

Also gruesome is the lurid story of how Jesus de Galindez, a lecturer at Columbia University, was kidnapped in Manhattan by U.S. government cutouts and delivered to Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo. Trujillo then had Galindez, whose expos?s of corruption Trujillo feared, boiled alive and fed to sharks, and ordered the murder of the American pilot who'd flown Galindez there. All under the beneficent gaze of CIA Director Allen Dulles.

In a sense, however, all of The Devil's Chessboard seems to exist to set the stage for the final chapters about the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. In the first 500 pages you are convinced that Dulles would have had no moral qualms about killing any politician, including Americans. You learn Dulles had a lifetime of experience in arranging assassinations, and apparent ties to attempts to overthrow or murder French president Charles de Gaulle. And you discover the depth of his grudge against John F. Kennedy, who dismissed him and several of his key underlings after the Bay of Pigs.

But were JFK and possibly Robert Kennedy killed by conspiracies involving Dulles? That's the conjecture of The Devil's Chessboard. There's no question Talbot has pulled together a lot of suggestive old information, and uncovered some that's new. Furthermore, he certainly proves there was a great deal of reluctance on the part of journalists and politicians at the time to pull on even the most obvious threads. But 50 years later, I don't think there's any way to say much for sure on this subject, except that it's pretty interesting. (Given humanity's history of catastrophic slapstick, I've always enjoyed the theory that a Secret Service agent shot Kennedy accidentally.)

Bayoumi was part of a Saudi intelligence network that defied conventions. The head of the Saudi General Intelligence Presidency before 9/11 was the veteran spymaster Prince Turki al Faisal. Bayoumi, however, was paid out of channels by, and reported to, Prince Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, the longtime Saudi ambassador to the United States and close friend of the Bush family, according to a declassified FBI memo. Information that Bayoumi collected on persons of interest in the Saudi community in San Diego and Los Angeles was forwarded to Prince Bandar, not Prince Turki. Prince Bandar and his wife, Princess Haifa al Faisal, also sent money to a close associate of Bayoumi in San Diego and the associate's wife, according to FBI reporting.

The CIA, which had a close relationship with Prince Bandar, saw the Saudi embassy intelligence network as business as usual. "This is normal intelligence collection from [any] embassy in the West," the CIA veteran who worked on the 9/11 investigation says. The United States and Saudi Arabia had reached an understanding through a covert alliance that went back decades. In the 1970s, Saudi Arabia joined forces with the United States and other countries to fight Communism, especially in Africa, where the Soviet Union was backing an array of rebel groups and organizations. The alliance came to be known as the "safari club." Saudi Arabia bankrolled U.S. intelligence operations and set up covert banking services for the agency. Later on the Saudis funded the anti-communist Nicaraguan Contra rebels at the request of the Reagan White House and the CIA. The Saudis also showered money on the Afghan mujahideen as they battled the occupying Soviet Red Army in the 1980s. Thousands of Saudis traveled to Afghanistan to fight alongside the mujahideen, including Osama bin Laden, who went on to found Al Qaeda with money from his wealthy family.

The CIA veteran involved in the 9/11 investigation detailed another little-known example of Saudi cooperation after the attacks. Shortly after the September 11 calamity, the Saudis loaded a plane with reams of information on Al Qaeda and delivered it to the CIA.

"It was the most impressive data dump I've ever seen in my life," the former CIA case officer says. "It was every piece of information they might have had about anybody who might have been an Al Qaeda guy." That information would prove critical years later in identifying a courier and adding to the puzzle that led the agency to Osama bin Laden's hideout in Pakistan.

The Saudi-CIA cooperation was not always smooth. After 9/11, there was a curious dispute that involved Saudi princes Turki and Bandar, the CIA, and the first two hijackers to arrive in the United States. The usually-secretive Saudis officials publicly revealed several intelligence tips they provided to the United States. Prince Turki told The Associated Press that his agency had passed word to the CIA in late 1999 and early 2000 that Hazmi and Mihdhar were members of Al Qaeda.

"What we told them was these people were on our watch list from previous activities of Al Qaeda, in both the embassy bombings and attempts to smuggle arms into the Kingdom," Turki said. In addition, Nawaf Obaid, a security consultant to the Saudi government, told author Lawrence Wright that the names of the future hijackers were given to the then-station chief in Riyadh. That wasn't the only tip the U.S. intelligence community had on the hijackers. In late 1999, the U.S. intelligence community intercepted communications revealing that "Khalid" (Mihdhar) and "Nawaf" (Hazmi) had been summoned to an Al Qaeda meeting in Malaysia. A CIA desk officer noted that "something more nefarious [was] afoot."

DENVER, Colorado--Former safari club International president Larry Rudolph, 67, and his longtime trophy-hunting girlfriend Lori Milliron, 64, were on August 1, 2022 convicted by jury in U.S. federal court of multiple charges associated with the October 11, 2016 murder of Rudolph's wife, Bianca Finizio Rudolph, then 56 and also a trophy hunter.

Adham understood that creating a single worldwide clandestine bank was not enough to assure the kind of resources necessary to stave off the coming Islamic revolutions that threatened Saudi Arabia and the entire region. The safari club needed a network of banks to finance its intelligence operations. On the 9th of September while General Ahmad was in the US, the leader of the Northern Alliance Commander Ahmad Shah Masood was assassinated. The Northern Alliance had informed the Bush Administration that the ISI was allegedly implicated in the assassination.

The Bush Administration consciously took the decision in "the post September 11 consultations" with Lt. General Mahmoud Ahmad to directly "cooperate" with Pakistan's military intelligence (ISI) despite its links to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban and its alleged role in the assassination of Commander Masood, which coincidentally occurred two days before the terrorist attacks.

The safari club was a regional alliance put together under Henry Kissinger. It came to light in documents revealed after the 1979 Iranian revolution. It was formally created Sept. 1, 1976, and signed by heads of intelligence agencies of France, Egypt, Iran, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. The focus of the safari club was Africa.

"Prelude to Terror" by Joseph J. Trento. In this book, the author sets forth information about the safari club, an "outsourced" intelligence network in which the Saudis financed a privatized espionage establishment that dominated American intelligence operations for the better part of a quarter of a century. Utilizing the Saudi GID and the Pakistani ISI as proxy agencies, this network ran the Iran-Contra, Iraqgate and Afghan mujahideen efforts. You see, Jerome Hauer had an office in building 7 of the World Trade Center...you know, the building full of important paperwork for things like the $2.3 trillion dollars Donald Rumsfeld announced the government "lost" the day before 9/11, and files on the safari club (the clandestine arm of the CIA) that collapsed in on itself in the attack despite not having been hit by a plane or debris, being heavily steel fortified, and fell down for absolutely no reason according to architectural experts from across the world.

Don't worry about Hauer though, he decided not to go to work that morning...although he did manage to make it on TV that day with Dan Rather to declare this was the work of Osama Bin Laden...before anyone in the government had even said anything about it. The same cannot be said of Bin Laden terrorist expert John O'Neill who was hired by Hauer the day before, and killed helping people trapped on 9/11 on his first day of work. Weird how the only guy that would know if Bin Laden really did this, died on his first day of work on 9/11 *and* was hired by the guy trying to now blame Bin Laden for it. Is now a good time to mention that Jerome Hauer was also the head of security for the entire World Trade Center complex, and that if anyone had access to send in teams to demo the buildings to guarantee them all to fall, it would be him? He was also obsessed with collapsed buildings and had pictures of them all over his office, because that's normal. Planes hit the towers that day, it was on live TV and people across Manhattan saw it. Now as to whether that would cause the towers to collapse in on themselves when they were specifically designed to withstand not just one plane crash but multiple (including like I said Building 7 which wasn't hit or even right next to the towers) or whether our government "really" lost track of the terrorists when they were on to them the first time, I can't say. But it did pull America back into war, and the murderous beast that is the military industrial complex began booming again at the cost of American tax payer's money and lives. If the idea of our government faking an incident to drag the country into war for money seems like "too much" for you, let me remind you that President Johnson did that exact same very thing (we know now from declassified documents) when he pulled the United States into the Vietnam War by using the nonexistent Gulf of Tonkin incident to get war powers granted to him by Congress. Something I highly doubt President Kennedy would have ever done...which Johnson infamously replaced upon a well known conspiracy theory all it's own.

But I digress, I have to mention the fact that both Fuad El-Hibri and Jerome Hauer of BioPort/Emergent BioSolutions, were both suspected of being behind the Anthrax mailing scare of 2011 that sickened 17, and killed 5. Turns out there's a really short list of people that would even have access to military grade Anthrax and be able to safely handle it...and an even shorter list of who would actually profit from such a thing. Originally the FBI tried to blame Iran, as another part of that "weapons of mass destruction" tale they loved pushing in the Middle East that turned out not to have never existed, but man...it sure got us into some expensive wars that the military industrial complex made a lot of money off of. The "blame Iran" theory was pushed out personally by perpetual war mongerer Senator John McCain, because well...of course. Investigative journalists on the other hand were looking at Fuad and Hauer, although the FBI eventually rested blame on microbiologist Bruce Ivins, a biodefense researcher for the US Army's infectious disease lab for 18 years. The FBI had no proof Ivins ever did anything other than work at the lab, and he had absolutely no motive to harm is fellow Americans whatsoever. Newspapers at the time (journalism wasn't always dead) were in an uproar on how flimsy the FBI's case was and demanded an independent investigation into it. Here's just one publication and its theory all about the Anthrax mailings...read it and tell me if anything sounds eerily familiar?

In January 2003, Seymour Hersh reported in The New Yorker magazine that former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard Perle had a meeting with Khashoggi in Marseille in order to use him as a conduit between Trireme Partners, a private venture capital company of which he was one of three principals, and the Saudi government. At the time, Perle was chair of the Defense Policy Board Advisory Committee, a Defense Department advisory group, which provided him with access to classified information and a position to influence defense policy.
Khashoggi told Hersh that Perle talked to him about the economic costs regarding a proposed invasion of Iraq. "'If there is no war,' he told me, 'why is there a need for security? If there is a war, of course, billions of dollars will have to be spent.'"
In the 1960s, Khashoggi married 20-year-old Englishwoman Sandra Daly (m. 1961-1974) who converted to Islam and took the name Soraya Khashoggi. They raised one daughter (Nabila) and four sons together (Mohamed, Khalid, Hussein, and Omar).
In 1999, DNA testing confirmed that Petrina Khashoggi, (b. Dec 1979), was born five years (previously stated as seven) after Kashoggi's divorce from Soraya but who was raised with his surname, was actually the biological child of Jonathan Aitken, an Irish-born British former Conservative Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom (1974-97), and a former Cabinet minister.

Adnan's third official wife was Shahpari Azam Zanganeh (m. 1991-2014)
In the 1980s, the Khashoggi family occupied one of the largest villa estates in Marbella, Spain, called Baraka, hosting lavish parties. Guests at these parties included film stars, pop celebrities and politicians. In 1985, celebrity reporter Robin Leach reported Khashoggi threw a five-day birthday party in Vienna for his eldest son, and in his heyday, Khashoggi spent $250,000 a day to maintain his lifestyle. He continued to spend lavishly even when he encountered financial problems. His net worth was said to have been down to about 8 million in 1990. Due to his extravagant lifestyle, he was called the Great Gatsby of the Middle East.
Khashoggi also owned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, in Laikipia County, Kenya known at the time as the Mount Kenya safari club. His house has since been converted into a hotel which is run by Serena Hotels.
Khashoggi died on 6 June 2017 while being treated for Parkinson's disease at the St Thomas' Hospital in London. He was 81.

"Our military is so well trained and their work is very compartmentalized, and it is the people at the top who make the decisions, and Ty Woods died unnecessarily, at the hands of Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and John Brennan," Parrot said.

"The story starts in the 1970s when they started an alternative CIA called the safari and it was funded by foreign banks and bank accounts and I have those numbers and Osama Bin Laden was one of those people who benefitted from the funding from those who were a part of the safari club. They were subverting oversight control of the successor of the Church Commission which is the Senate Intelligence Committee," Parrot said.

The story goes on and Parrot said there was no need to invade Afghanistan, since, "John Brennan, Richard Clarke and Joe Biden, a long list, the safari club had started to do something good, but it didn't turn out good." he said.

"Leon Panetta, whose first job in the administration was to cancel Rigor covert, CIA program to get Osama," Parrot said.

"I negotiated with Iran to transfer Osama Bin Laden, to be put in a neutral zone, I had it on tape that it was agreed to, and I went to Bill Richardson who agreed to receive Bin Laden, and it turned out Bin Laden had been transferred. Recently, a video about Hillary Clinton was exposed to the social media, bringing public attention back to the Benghazi incident in Libya that she led.

THE STING: Patriot Robert Trump Went Undercover for the FBI to Stop BCCI, Hillary Clinton's BNL Fraud in Iraqgate

In the annals of the 40-year sting to end the Deep State, Robert Trump was the FBI informant at the heart of foiling the BCCI money laundering bank plot to smuggle weapons to Iraq by Hillary Clinton in a dodgy deal via Italian bank BNL.

"Bank of Crooks and Criminals International" was the seventh largest private bank in the world, with assets of $20 billion in the late 1980s, whose spectacular demise in 1991 left the Deep State as exposed to public scrutiny as it is about to become today with the unraveling of the FISA court crimes.

But lost to history has been the pivotal role played by Robert Trump in taking down that fraud whose long tail of operatives will now finally be caught, convicted and hung for treason in the final chapter of this multi-generational crime saga playing out today.

Like other CIA banks, BCCI's raison d'être was to become a money launderer for the world's drug dealers, provide an institution to hide arms purchases, to facilitate gold smuggling, and, ultimately, re-purpose those rat lines and contacts for human trafficking.

To recount his involvement means retelling the long tale of internationalist greed, warmongering, dirty deals and the payoffs and double-crosses that characterize American foreign diplomacy at the hands of the Cabal.

BCCI and "The safari club"

BCCI was created as the companion bank for a CIA proxy group called The safari club, with the moniker from the Kenyan resort owned by arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi who hosted its formative meeting there in 1976.

With the CIA's dangerous tentacles bound up by Washington by the Church Committee's investigation into its abuses in 1975, the intelligence agencies of France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco and the Shah's Iran came together in this offshoot to do the Deep State's bidding in Africa. Their mission was ostensibly against the Russian threat in the Angolan civil war, but that was really about defending French and Belgian mining interests in the Congo, and arming Zaire against Russian influence for the same reason. The safari club also supported Somalia against Ethiopia, the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan, and even Israel's peace agreement with Egypt in 1979, all of it financed by BCCI.

"The safari club needed a network of banks to finance its intelligence operations. With the official blessing of George Bush as the head of the CIA, Adham [Kamal Adham, head of Saudi intelligence and Khashoggi's bestie] transformed a small Pakistani merchant bank, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), into a worldwide money-laundering machine, buying banks around the world in order to create the biggest clandestine money network in history," wrote author and journalist Joseph J. Trento in 2005's Prelude to Terror: the Rogue CIA, The Legacy of America's Private Intelligence Network.

The safari club became one of the great power vehicles of Khashoggi, son of the Saudi king's doctor and school friend of the future King of Jordan, who began his fortune importing Kenwood Construction vehicles to Saudi Arabia then as Lockheed's sole agent in the region, earning $106 million in commission from 1970 to 1975, alone, a figure which came out in the Lockheed bribery scandal investigations.

Iraqgate

By the time the safari club hit its stride, Khashoggi was quietly arming every one of the factions that brought instability to the Middle East, while also brokering the sale of US weapons to the countries defending against those threats he had enabled.

Unmatched in his empire's scope and, of course enabled by the CIA's guiding hand in all of his operations, BCCI was the perfect front vehicle for "the world's richest man" who also owned Nabila, the world's largest yacht, which he later sold to the Sultan of Brunei, who in turn sold it to Donald Trump, who sold it to now-defrocked Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. (Was it also rigged for blackmail tapes like Maxwell's Lady Ghislaine? Probably.)

Yes, we believe it is possible for moral, intellectually honest men to believe in globalism, the evolution of a world government, the need to reduce tensions, to "build bridges of understanding", and similar slogans. We also believe that the great majority of persons promoting such policies are sincere and well-meaning. Perhaps, as at least one defector from the Communist intelligence network has charged, it is possible that Kissinger's policies have been so favorable to the Communist bloc because he works for them!

So it's really too bad Allen Dulles didn't live to see the safari club.
The fallout from Watergate initially would have horrified him, with mere elected members of Congress placing restrictions on patricians like himself. But he then would have been thrilled to see the ingenuity with which his heirs escaped those bonds, and deeply satisfied that the club did its work while staying hidden from the prying eyes of History.

As Talbot points out, Dulles stated his worldview publicly and explicitly in 1938 during his only run for political office: "Democracy only works if the so-called intelligent people make it work. You can't sit back and let democracy run itself." Unsurprisingly, homilies like this did not carry him to victory. But so what? He went on to wield far greater power than most elected officials ever have. And while Dulles is the star of The Devil's Chessboard, he's surrounded by an enormous supporting cast.

As Talbot explains, "What I was really trying to do was a biography on the American power elite from World War II up to the 60s." It's a huge, sprawling book, and an amalgam of all the appalling things Dulles and his cohort definitely did, things the evidence suggests they probably did, and speculation about things they might plausibly have done. More than a biography, it's a exploration of well-organized pathology.

It includes detailed reexaminations of Dulles's most notorious failures, such as the Bay of Pigs in 1961 and the nightmarish mind control program MK-ULTRA, as well as his most notorious "successes," the CIA's overthrow of democratic governments in Iran in 1953 and in Guatemala in 1954. Talbot notes that an internal CIA account of the Iran coup fairly glowed with joy: "It was a day that never should have ended. For it carried with it such a sense of excitement, of satisfaction and of jubilation that it is doubtful whether any other can come up to it." According to a participant in an Oval Office briefing for President Eisenhower, Dulles's brother John Foster, then secretary of state, "seemed to be purring like a giant cat."

But by this point these events are fairly well-known. Perhaps most compelling is Talbot's in-depth look at Dulles's lesser-known yet still extraordinarily sordid projects. As the Swiss director of the Office of Strategic Services during World War II, Dulles - whose law firm had represented German corporations and many U.S. corporations with German interests - quietly attempted to undermine Franklin D. Roosevelt's demand that Germany surrender unconditionally, going so far as to order the rescue of an SS general surrounded by Italian partisans. Dulles also led the push to save Reinhard Gehlen, Nazi head of intelligence on the Eastern Front and a genuine monster, from any post-war justice. Dulles then made certain Gehlen and his spies received a cozy embrace from the CIA, and helped push him to the top of West Germany's Federal Intelligence Service.

Also gruesome is the lurid story of how Jesus de Galindez, a lecturer at Columbia University, was kidnapped in Manhattan by U.S. government cutouts and delivered to Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo. Trujillo then had Galindez, whose exposés of corruption Trujillo feared, boiled alive and fed to sharks, and ordered the murder of the American pilot who'd flown Galindez there. All under the beneficent gaze of CIA Director Allen Dulles.

In a sense, however, all of The Devil's Chessboard seems to exist to set the stage for the final chapters about the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. In the first 500 pages you are convinced that Dulles would have had no moral qualms about killing any politician, including Americans. You learn Dulles had a lifetime of experience in arranging assassinations, and apparent ties to attempts to overthrow or murder French president Charles de Gaulle. And you discover the depth of his grudge against John F. Kennedy, who dismissed him and several of his key underlings after the Bay of Pigs.

The goal of such a meeting, of course, would have been to persuade Iran to keep its American hostages until after the next month's election, thus denying Carter any last-minute, politically potent triumph.

De Marenches and the safari club certainly had a clear motive to oust Carter: They blamed him for allowing one of their charter members, the Shah, to fall from power. But whether de Marenches' claims were true or not, we do know that history unfolded exactly as he and the safari club would have wished. The hostages weren't released until Reagan was inaugurated, Reagan appointed Casey director of the CIA, and from that point forward America's intelligence "community" was back in business.

And yet normal citizens would have a hard time just finding out the safari club even existed, much less the outlines of its activities. It appears to have been mentioned just once by the New York Times, in a profile of a French spy novelist. It likewise has made only one appearance in the Washington Post, in a 2005 online chat in which a reader asked the Post's former Middle East bureau chief Thomas Lippman, "Does the safari club, formed in the mid-70s, still exist?" Lippman responded: "I never heard of it, so I have no idea."

In the evening, a group of American tourists staying at the Mount Kenya safari club were brought over to join us for a dinner of spit-roasted lamb, boar and Middle Eastern delicacies. Among the Americans were two congressmen and their families, who couldn't believe their luck of dining with a prime minister, a billionaire and some Italian beauties. It all made for animated company, with the elegant Mr. Khashoggi orchestrating the conversation.
The next morning, he was gone, and our attention was again directed to his innovative farming venture and the wellstocked game park.

A more usual explanation for Carter's defeat in 1980 was the second oil shock of 1979-1980, in which an acute gas shortage led to both a sudden increase in prices and long gas lines at service stations. It is customary for establishment scholars to blame the shortage on political upheavals in Iran, which led to "a cutoff of Iranian oil."(8)

It was the excuse they gave for slashing the amount of gasoline they supplied to their retail dealers. . . . A CIA study showed that in the first five months of the year, at a time when the Administration was deploring our oil shortage, U.S. companies exported more oil than they had in those glut years 1977 and 1978.(9)

The oil majors' manipulation of domestic oil prices, combined with Carter's failure to bring the hostages home, combined to cause the first defeat for an elected president running for reelection, since that of Herbert Hoover in 1932.

Not mentioned by either mainstream journalists or Sherrill was the role quietly played by Saudi Arabia in augmenting the 1979 gas crisis: "The Saudis had cut production by nearly 1 million barrels a day to 9.5 million at the start of the year [1979], and in April 1979 they made a second cut to 8.5 million. The Saudis had the capacity to produce 12 million barrels a day at that point."(10)

Saudi money transfersIn the mid-1970s members of the Saudi royal family set up covert accounts at the Riggs Bank in Washington amounting to tens of millions of dollars; this money was used by the so-called "safari club" to run intelligence operations at a time when American intelligence was paralyzed by investigations in the aftermath of Watergate.[5]

A Saudi named Omar al-Bayoumi housed and opened bank accounts for two of the 9/11 hijackers. Several Saudi accounts were discovered to have financial improprieties, including a lack of required background checks and a consistent failure to alert regulators to large transactions, in violation of federal banking laws.

Many of these transactions involved Prince Bandar personally, often transferring over $1 million at a time. According to British investigations on the Al Yamamah deal, reported by The Guardian, Bandar would have received over $ 1.5 billion in bribery from BAE Systems, laundered through the Riggs Bank.

Theodore "Ted" Shackley was a key US deep politician. In 1962 he became CIA station chief in Miami (central to both the Bay of Pigs and Operation 40). Moss, Khashoggi, the safari club, and the International Overworld

The power exerted by Khashoggi and Moss was not limited to Khashoggi's access to funds and women. By the 1970s, Moss was chairman of the elite safari club in Kenya, where he invited Khashoggi in as majority owner.

The exclusive property became the venue for an alliance between intelligence agencies that wished to compensate for the CIA's retrenchment in the wake of President Carter's election and Senator Church's post-Watergate reforms.

Former Saudi intelligence chief Prince Turki bin Faisal once told Georgetown University alumni,

"In 1976, after the Watergate matters took place here, your intelligence community was literally tied up by Congress. It could not do anything.
It could not send spies, it could not write reports, and it could not pay money."

In order to compensate for that, a group of countries got together in the hope of fighting Communism and established what was called the safari club.
The safari club included France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Iran

Prince Turki's candid remarks - "your intelligence community was literally tied up by Congress… In order to compensate for that, a group of countries got together… and established what was called the safari club." - made it clear that the safari club, operating at the level of the deep state, was expressly created to overcome restraints established by political decisions of the public state in Washington.

Obviously the property owned by Khashoggi and Moss in Kenya should not be confused with the intelligence operation of the same name. But it would be wrong also to make a radical separation between the two: the two men Khashoggi and Moss would appear to be part of this supranational intelligence milieu.

Specifically Khashoggi's activities of corruption by sex and money, after they too were somewhat curtailed by Senator Church's post-Watergate reforms, appear to have been taken up by the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), a bank where Khashoggi's friend and business partner Kamal Adham, the Saudi intelligence chief and safari club member, was a part-owner.

Joseph Trento adds that "The safari club needed a network of banks to finance its intelligence operations,... With the official blessing of George Bush as the head of the CIA, Adham transformed… the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), into a worldwide money-laundering machine."

As the safari club was beginning operations, former CIA Director Richard Helms and agent Theodore Shackley were under scrutiny from Congress and feared that new covert operations could be quickly exposed.

Peter Dale Scott has classified the safari club as part of the "second CIA"-an extension of the organization's reach maintained by an autonomous group of key agents.

Thus even as Carter's new CIA director Stansfield Turner attempted to limit the scope of the agency's operations, Shackley, his deputy Thomas Clines, and agent Edwin P. Wilson (executor of the "Arms for Libya" weapons deal) secretly maintained their connections with the safari club and the BCCI.[6][7]

Alexandre de Marenches, head of French intelligence and leader of the safari club, a secret cabal of intelligence agencies, meets President Reagan at the White House shortly after Reagan's inauguration. De Marenches proposes a joint French-American-ISI operation to counter the Soviets in Afghanistan, and dubs it Operation Mosquito. As de Marenches will later explain in his memoirs, he suggests making fake Russian newspapers with articles designed to demoralize Soviet troops, and other propaganda. He also suggests the US take drugs seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other agencies that would normally be destroyed and secretly supply them to Soviet soldiers fighting in Afghanistan instead. According to de Marenches, the idea is ultimately rejected because of fear of media leaks. But in fact, fake issues of the Soviet army newspaper later do appear in Kabul, Afghanistan. And large qualities of hashish, opium, and heroin are made available to Soviet soldiers, resulting in widespread addiction. Such addiction to local drugs would have taken place to some degree in any case, but intriguingly, some quantities of cocaine also appear in Afghanistan. At the time, cocaine is only grown in South America. A team of Russian military historians will later write a candid book on the Afghan war and one will say, "there certainly was circumstantial evidence for some kind of systematic program" to addict Soviet soldiers. [COOLEY, 2002, PP. 106-108] In 1982, a secret memo will exempt the CIA from reporting on drug smuggling conducted by CIA officers or assets (see February 11, 1982). Mathea Falco, head of the State Department's International Narcotics Control program, will later allege that the CIA and ISI worked together to encourage the mujaheddin to addict Soviet troops. And a book cowritten by two Time magazine reporters will allege that "a few American intelligence operatives were deeply emeshed in the drug trade" during the war. [SCOTT, 2007, PP. 124-125]

Raymond H. Close, the former C.I.A. station chief in Saudi Arabia. After official retirement in 1977, he went to work there, and his numerous business interests include partnerships with former Saudi officials.

Two former officials recalled an incident in the early 1970's when Mr. Close gave approval to top Saudi officials to sell arms to Pakistan at the same time the American ambassador was denying permission.

In one of his first business ventures after leaving the C.I.A., Mr. Close became a partner with Kamal Adham, who in early 1979 left his post as head of the Saudi Arabian intelligence service, according to Americans doing business in Saudi Arabia. Another Saudi business partner of Mr. Close is Issan Kabbani, another former Saudi official.

Since 1978, a company in which Mr. Close and Mr. Kabbani are principals has been the Saudi Arabian representative for Cesco Chemicals International Inc., a Louisiana-based company that sells an oilfield drilling lubricant, according to Cesco officials.

Vernon A. Walters, the former Deputy Director of Central Intelligence, now the Reagan Administration's ambassador at large. He earned $300,000 for consulting on a potential arms sale to Morocco before joining the Administration.

One of Mr. Walters's last missions in the C.I.A. was a trip in late 1975 to Spain, where in meetings with King Hassan II of Morocco and Spanish officials he convinced Spain to give up control of Western Sahara, a Spanish colony in Africa long sought by Morocco, according to Congressional sources.

When asked in 1979 by Africa News, an American newsletter on African affairs, about the secret 1975 talks, Mr. Walters reportedly declined to discuss the details, saying, It would look like the King of Morocco and the King of Spain are pawns of the United States, and that wouldn't be in anybody's interest.

Committee documents showed how Kermit Roosevelt, a former C.I.A. official who personally arranged the 1953 coup that brought the Shah of Iran to power, used his C.I.A. connections on behalf of the Northrop Corporation in Iran and the Middle East.
