The rival teams preparing to face off in the first-ever Roswell vs Washington UFO Debate on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025 will appear together on Coast to Coast AM with host Connie Willis this Saturday night, Sept. 27,.
The special four-hour broadcast - set for 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. EDT (7-11 p.m. PDT) - previews the Oct. 10 debate in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, where Roswell and Washington will go head-to-head over the contested UFO legacies of 1947.
About the Debate:
The Roswell vs Washington Debate will take place Oct. 10, at Truth or Consequences Brewing Company, in Truth or Consequences, NM.
According to the Joint Statement issued by the organizers, the debate's purpose:
"To jointly and publicly address long-standing questions and controversies relating to the history, mythology, and legacy of the 1947 Summer of the Saucers."
Central to the debate are the stories of three iconic 1947 UFO events:
The Roswell crash (New Mexico)
Kenneth Arnold's mt. rainier sighting (Washington), birthplace of the "flying saucer"
The Maury Island Incident (Washington), birthplace of the "Men in Black" legend
The stakes? Organizers playfully reference the host city's name:
"The winner will know the truth. The loser, consequences."
About the Debate Teams
Team Washington:
Steve Edmiston: Business and entertainment lawyer, indie filmmaker, and co-founder of the Men in Black Birthday Bash Festival (MIBBB Fest).
He is a frequent speaker on the Maury Island Incident, J. Edgar Hoover's UFO files, and the origins of the "Men in Black." His credits include the award-winning short film The Maury Island Incident and multiple screenplays.
Edmiston has appeared on Coast to Coast AM, Ancient Aliens, and at history conferences nationwide.
Vince Ynzunza: Videographer, researcher, and creator of the YouTube series Pacific NorthWEIRD, documenting the Northwest's bizarre history and paranormal lore.
He co-produces the Chehalis Flying Saucer Party, honoring Kenneth Arnold's June 24, 1947 mt. rainier sighting - the event that launched the modern UFO era.
Jason Mattson: Executive Director of the Lewis County Historical Museum in Chehalis, WA, and co-producer of the Chehalis Flying Saucer Party.

On Friday night, Oct. 10, 2025 in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, believers in the Roswell UFO crash will face off against defenders of Washington state's lesser-known Maury Island Incident in a public debate.
One side cites a UFO crash with alien bodies in the desert; the other points to slag, a Man in Black, and a doomed B-25 bomber with the first two casualties for the newly-independent Air Force near Kelso, Washington.
But this won't be just a fight over flying saucers - it's about which version of 1947's "Summer of the Saucers" deserves the spotlight.
The event will be hosted by Resident Roswell Researchers and the Washington-based United Festivals of UFOs (UFO-UFO), two camps often at odds over UFO lore.
They've issued a rare joint statement announcing the debate in hopes of settling their differences - or at least spotlighting them.
The purpose? According to the Joint Statement:
"To jointly and publicly address long-standing questions and controversies (some might say, grievances) relating to the history, mythology, and legacy of the 1947 Summer of the Saucers, specifically including 1947 UFO incidents (both famous and infamous) occurring in Roswell, New Mexico, mt. rainier, Washington, and Maury Island, Washington."
The Washington State and Roswell representatives agree on many of the facts and circumstances of these iconic UFO episodes: that UFOs have become "big business," and that current popular culture relating to UFOs and UAPs, the so-called "Men in Black," and even aliens, is directly descended - with little change - from the events of 1947.
However, the Joint Statement asserts that "central to our disagreements are the facts, circumstances, and competing legacies of Roswell, Kenneth Arnold's mt. rainier sighting, and Maury Island."
The Joint Statement identifies debate topics that include:
Who's to blame (or credit) for launching the 1947 Summer of the Saucers? Is it the businessman pilot who first brought these objects to the public attention?
Is it the unfortunate Maury Island eyewitness who failed to heed the warning of the Man In Black? Or could it be the long shadow of Roswell, obscuring all that has come before or since?
Do the current legacies of these three 1947 events accurately reflect their true historical and mythological importance?
The festival organizers seek to underscore the historical and pop-culture significance of Washington's 1947 UFO sightings, both famous (Kenneth Arnold's June 24, 1947, mt. rainier sighting of nine flying discs) and infamous (the notorious "Maury Island Incident," featuring the origins of the iconic, so-called "Men in Black").
Neutral Debate Site
Organizers selected a neutral site for the Oct. 10 debate: Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, at the Truth or Consequences Brewing Company. Organizers seized upon the wordplay in concluding the Joint Statement:
"These important questions, and others of less importance, will be debated on October 10, 2025, in the neutral territory of Truth Or Consequences, NM, at the Truth or Consequences Brewery.
"On one side, UFO-UFO, representing Washington State's role in kickstarting the modern UFO phenomenon. "And on the other side, Roswell, the town that took that phenomenon to the bank. "
The winner will know the truth. "The loser, consequences."

I believe anything is possible, and Washington State is known for being the #1 or #2 place in the nation for UFO sightings. Roswell, Mexico, has nothing on us here in the Evergreen State.
Why UFO Hunters Flock to This Tiny Washington Town Every Year
One little town in Washington State has sparked the interest of UFO hunters, especially at the base of Mount Adams. You'd think mt. rainier was the #1 place to spot a UFO, but mt. Adams is also a hot spot.
Toppenish is the town of murals, but they should add a mural with aliens as well. With the Yakama Nation oral history, the mountain has long been considered a spiritually active place, and what modern eyes call "UFOs" might be better understood as sacred phenomena.
There's a great website that follows UFO sightings near Yakima. It's a fascinating website.
Lights in the Sky: The Mysterious Activity Around Mount Adams
Hundreds of sightings have been recorded at the James Gilliland Ranch, which claims to have established Enlightened Contact with ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence (ECETI) near Trout Lake at the base of mt. Adams.
You can stay at the ECETI ranch and enjoy some great stargazing, and I wouldn't be surprised if you don't catch a glimpse of a UFO while visiting.
So the next time you are traveling through Eastern Washington, you might put Toppenish on your list for the best place to spot a UFO.

The impending briefing also comes after the National Archives released in late April some records related to reports of UFOS.
The National Archives was required to release the trove under a provision included in an annual defense policy bill directing the executive branch to declassify certain records.
But not all who have long pushed for UFO transparency were happy with what was made public.
That includes Avi Loeb, an astrophysicist at Harvard University who made headlines in August 2023 when he claimed that remnants of a meteor he and a team recovered in the Pacific Ocean were interstellar in origin.
The reports "contain limited data that cannot be verified," Loeb, who is among the scheduled slate of speakers at the UAP Disclosure Fund event, wrote in a post on Medium.
"Since the sky and oceans are not classified, it makes more sense to collect new and better data on millions of objects."
When was the first UFO sighting in Nevada? What was the first modern-day UFO sighting?
The Nevada State Journal reported a UFO sighting in July 1947, including a firsthand account from an editor.
A pilot flying over Washington state reported seeing "flying saucers" in the sky near mt. rainier on June 24, 1947, now recognized as the first modern-day UFO sighting.
Over the next several weeks, people from across the country called in to newspapers and public officials to report their own sightings.
Nevada had its first recorded UFO sighting less than two weeks later on July 6.
A man stopped by the Nevada State Journal offices in Reno to report "one of the contraptions" had crashed into the mountain near the Sparks "S" and sent up a cloud of dust when it hit.
He said he wanted to remain anonymous, and added that he had no plans to go up the mountain to look for the object.
The following day, Journal city editor John Brackett and his wife reported a flying disc crossed the horizon over Reno twice "at an almost unbelievable speed" before disappearing over the eastern horizon near the mouth of the Truckee River Canyon.
He knew his story would have skeptics.
"At least eight other persons in Reno saw the same thing we did," Brackett wrote in the July 8 edition of the Journal.
"I'm glad of that, because the kidding one takes is terrific. I personally don't think these hundreds of tales going around about them are so funny anymore."

These have had interesting characteristics like flying lower than planes lower than clouds, creating synchronized flashing patterns in the sky, and yesterday there was one that got really close.
When they're not in a synchronized pattern, they are scattered in the sky flying in strange patterns. They seem to be aware of our presence watching them, as they will fly right above us and one came really close last night."
- Reno, March 7: "Sphere heading north at steady pace and trajectory. I looked up when I heard a small plane (Cessna size) flying by and saw sphere at a faster pace above the plane.
I pointed it out to my mom and we watched it continue until it disappeared behind clouds. No noise was heard. It was very steady with speed and direction."
Some of the sightings align with rocket launches and Starlink satellite formations.
Why are there so many UFO sightings in Nevada?
Perhaps there's a good reason Nevadans see lights in the sky and immediately think of extraterrestrials. Consider:
- The secretive military base commonly known as Area 51 has been used by the Air Force since World War II, and has been the base of operations for testing aircraft.
It's also rumored to be where alien aircraft are stored, including the remains of the flying saucer that allegedly crashed at Roswell, New Mexico.

If you've seen strange lights in the sky recently, don't panic - it was either a meteor the latest batch of Starlink satellites. Probably.
Elon Musk's Starlink launched 27 satellites on Wednesday afternoon, joining thousands other network satellites that provide internet access to remote locations from 340 miles above the earth's surface.
After their launch, the objects travel in a chain that's visible in the night sky, and often are mistaken for something alien.
Another batch of satellites is set to be launched from Southern California's Vandenberg Space Force Base on Sunday or Monday, according to spaceflightnow.com.
Last month, a launch from Vandenberg during the evening commute wowed skywatchers in Northern Nevada.
Is something else out there? More than 1,700 Nevadans have seen things they can't explain - including 11 since Jan. 1 who have reported their otherworldly sightings to nuforc.org, the website of the National UFO Reporting Center.
Another 51 rational-minded Nevadans have reported 51 separate meteor incidents to the American Meteor Website.
Here's the breakdown on Nevada's history with UFOs, and what we've been spotting in the sky lately.

mt. rainier (Washington State) possibly set to erupt soon. Steam is venting in a non-regular fashion. USO's are deciding now whether or not to begin massive evacuations.
They are calming the populace down around the volcano. In the meeting I'm not supposed to be discussing, a huge glacial pocket may become super heated steam within the mountain, setting off a huge reaction causing an eruption. Current steam is due to glacial melt coming into contact with the molten rock underneath. Small amounts may become too hot for the original glacial set to survive, causing a major portion of ice and near-frozen water to become a pressure bomb.
Keep your eyes on this. USGS are panicking. Pray to God that it decided to stay calm or else the ash storm will be felt nationally.

Washington is No. 1 state for UFO sightings
Washington has logged more reports of UFOs per capita than any other state in the U.S., according to data from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC).
By the numbers: Washington residents have reported 6,812 UFO sightings to NUFORC, with the earliest reports dating to the 1940s.
That's roughly 88 sightings per 100,000 residents - more than double the rate of reports from most states.
California, for instance, logged only 39 UFO sightings per 100,000 residents over a similar time frame.
Context: NUFORC has been around since 1974, and it's where the FAA recommends folks report sightings of UFOs, Axios Richmond's Karri Peifer reports.
Flashback: Washington has a long history of UFO sightings, dating to when Boise pilot Kenneth Arnold was flying from Chehalis to Yakima and saw nine large, shiny objects flying near mt. rainier, reports The Bellingham Herald.

mt. rainier And The New Madrid Fault Zone Were Both Just Hit By Significant Earthquakes
mt. rainier and the New Madrid fault zone are both shaking, and a catastrophic seismic event at either location would cause death and destruction on an unimaginable scale.
mt. rainier has been called "one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world", and scientists tell us that it is just a matter of time before a major eruption occurs. When that day finally arrives, mt. rainier has the potential to bury hundreds of square miles with a colossal tsunami of super-heated mud that is literally several hundred feet deep. And since mt. rainier is very close to major population centers, we are talking about the potential for the worst disaster that we have seen in modern American history.
But a massive earthquake along the New Madrid fault zone actually has the potential to be far worse. A very deep scar under the ground that was created when North America was originally formed has made that part of the country very mechanically weak, and many experts believe that a big enough earthquake along that fault zone could literally rip the United States in half.
But before we discuss the New Madrid fault zone, let's talk about what just happened at mt. rainier first.
According to the USGS, mt. rainier was hit by a magnitude 3.6 earthquake on Sunday afternoon...
After a spurt of seismic activity this weekend, Mount rainier National Park was shaken by a 3.6 magnitude earthquake Sunday afternoon.
The quake hit at 12:31 p.m. and was felt as far as Kent, nearly 80 miles away, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The relatively shallow quake was centered roughly a mile beneath the earth's surface.
In addition to that quake, there have been quite a few others in recent days.
In fact, it is being reported that mt. rainier has been hit by "more than a dozen" earthquakes since Thanksgiving day.
The Seattle Times is assuring us that this is perfectly normal, but they are also warning their readers that they "should prepare for what might happen in the event of an eruption" just in case…
Regardless, people living near Mount rainier should prepare for what might happen in the event of an eruption, said Wes Thelen, a research seismologist at the Cascade Volcano Observatory. Specifically, an eruption could cause lahars - large volcanic mudflows - to rip down the side of the mountain.
Many of my readers clearly remember the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, but a catastrophic eruption of mt. rainier would be so much worse that the two events would not even be worth comparing. The following comes from Wikipedia...
If mt. rainier were to erupt as powerfully as Mount St. Helens did in its May 18, 1980 eruption, the effect would be cumulatively greater, because of the far more massive amounts of glacial ice locked on the volcano compared to Mount St. Helens,[40] the vastly more heavily populated areas surrounding rainier, and the simple fact that mt rainier is a much bigger volcano, almost twice the size of St. Helens.[49] Lahars from rainier pose the most risk to life and property,[50] as many communities lie atop older lahar deposits. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), about 150,000 people live on top of old lahar deposits of rainier.[9] Not only is there much ice atop the volcano, the volcano is also slowly being weakened by hydrothermal activity. According to Geoff Clayton, a geologist with a Washington State Geology firm, RH2 Engineering, a repeat of the 5000-year-old Osceola Mudflow would destroy Enumclaw, Orting, Kent, Auburn, Puyallup, Sumner and all of Renton.[39] Such a mudflow might also reach down the Duwamish estuary and destroy parts of downtown Seattle, and cause tsunami in Puget Sound and Lake Washington.[51] rainier is also capable of producing pyroclastic flows and expelling lava.[51]

Four climbers have been rescued after spending three days stranded at about 13,500 feet on the north side of Mount rainier in Washington state, the National Park Service said Thursday.
The men were spotted signalling for help Monday afternoon by a reconnaissance helicopter. They were unable to continue the climb up the mountain, located about 75 miles southeast of Seattle, because of high winds that blew away or destroyed their tent and other equipment. The difficult conditions also prevented a rescue by helicopter.
At about 9:15 a.m. local time on Thursday, a helicopter was finally able to land in the saddle between Liberty Cap and Columbia Crest during a pocket of good weather, according to the park service. By 10:15 a.m., the climbers were off the mountain.
Rangers were able to confirm the identities of the four men as Yevgeniy Krasnitskiy of Oregon; Ruslan Khasbulatov, of New Jersey; Vasily Aushev, of New York; and Constantine Toporov, of New York.
All four were found alive, although suffering from exposure, and transported to local hospitals for treatment, the National Park Service said.
They began their ascent from White River Campground on Friday, and Mount rainier's Communications Center received a 911 call on Monday reporting that the climbers had been stranded.
Efforts to reach the men by air throughout the week were thwarted because of high winds, the park service said. Rangers prepared numerous contingency plans, including both air and ground rescue options, to implement Thursday if the opportunities arose.
Even an Army Chinook helicopter from Joint Base Lewis-McChord was unable to reach the men twice on Tuesday, first because of cloud cover and then because of the wind, it said Wednesday.
The challenging, technically dangerous Liberty Ridge route is the same one where Arleigh William Dean, 45, of Alaska was killed and two other hikers were injured when they were caught in a rockfall on May 29. Three other hikers were uninjured.

Mostly just air traffic control calmly instructing pilots, every now and then the guy would come on. He was told they would find someone to talk to him about how to land.
Around 18-20 minutes in he is talking, he says I just threw up a little bit. They asked are you comfortable, do you have good visibility, and he said yeah, I just flew around mt rainier and I think I have enough gas to go to the Olympics (mountain range north of seattle) they asked are you comfortable flying the plane, he said oh yeah, I've played enough video games.
