First Capitol riot trial set to open in D.C.
By Josh Gerstein and Kyle Cheney - 1h ago
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/first-capitol-riot-trial-set-to-open-in-d-c/ar-AAUpfvP?ocid=msedgntp
Nearly 14 months after a mob stormed the Capitol and threatened the certification of Joe Biden's win in the presidential race, the first trial is set to open Monday for one of the more than 750 people charged in connection with the attack.
Jury selection is scheduled to get underway in U.S. District Court in Washington for Guy Reffitt, 49, a Texas oil rig worker facing five felony counts, including civil disorder, seeking to obstruct the Electoral College count, carrying a firearm into a restricted area and obstruction of justice.
In addition to being the first Jan. 6 defendant to go on trial, Reffitt holds another distinction: the only person known to have been turned in by one of his own children.
Before Reffitt even left his Texas home for the Jan. 6 event, his son Jackson had contacted the FBI to report the extremism exhibited by his father, who is alleged to be a member of a "Three Percenters" militia group. Prosecutors say they intend to play several audio recordings Jackson made on his cell phone of his father following the Jan. 6 attack.
The trial is the first test of the Justice Department's effort to transform its massive Jan. 6 manhunt - one that officials say has been the most complex investigation in U.S. history - into arguments that will convince a D.C. jury to convict. Prosecutors have spent much of the last year collecting and synthesizing massive troves of evidence, much of it drawn from security camera footage, social media posts, text messages and videos taken by thousands of rioters as they breached the building. Merely organizing that evidence has taken the government months and led to protracted delays.
In the meantime, more than 200 rioters have pleaded guilty, primarily to misdemeanor offenses, and received sentences ranging from probation to six months in jail. A handful of felony defendants who pleaded guilty to crimes like police assault and obstruction have received sentences ranging between eight months and about five years in prison.
Reffitt's trial will stand out, even among the most extreme Jan. 6 cases because of the role of his children - and a militia member that DOJ says has been granted immunity to testify against Reffitt.
Prosecutors said Jackson and his younger sister Peyton are expected to testify at the trial that their father urged them not to cooperate with the FBI.
"If you turn me in, you're a traitor, and you know what happens to traitors ... Traitors get shot," Guy Reffitt said, according to prosecutors. They also allege he said to his daughter that if he found out that he was being recorded or his comments were posted on social media, he would put a bullet through her phone.
Those remarks led to the obstruction of justice charge Reffitt faces along with the obstruction of an official proceeding charge. Each carries a potential 20-year jail sentence. Prosecutors also intend to call several Capitol Police officers, FBI agents, a former Senate aide who was present on Jan. 6, and a Secret Service agent familiar with the movements of then-Vice President Mike Pence.
Reffitt's attorney, William Welch, has dismissed his client's comments as "idle threats," and he has gotten some support for that view from Reffitt's daughter Peyton.
During a bail hearing last March, Peyton Reffitt confirmed that her father made a reference to shooting traitors, but she did not view it as a threat.
"He said words that crossed the line, but I knew that there were no - there was zero intention behind those words," Peyton Reffitt said then. "I mean, he says things that cross the line all the time, but I didn't feel threatened at all."
Jackson didn't testify at that hearing, but has done a series of interviews describing his outrage at his father's actions and explaining his decision to turn his dad in. Jackson told ABC News that he did not think his father was actually going to shoot him, but he still felt intimidated.
"I think the way he's been manipulated into thinking by these extremist groups and what's been fed to him, it is worrying enough that I don't know what he was going to do next."
Video from the day of the riot shows a man prosecutors have said is Guy Reffitt wearing a blue jacket and a GoPro-type video camera clashing with police on the West Terrace of the Capitol. At one point, the man who appears to be Reffitt can be seen rinsing his eyes, apparently from the effects of tear gas deployed by rioters, police or both.

Cabal backed Abraham Flexner, an educator, built our modern medical mafia
The Flexner Report - 100 Years Later
Thomas P. Duffy, MD
The Flexner Report of 1910 transformed the nature and process of medical education in America with a resulting elimination of proprietary schools and the establishment of the biomedical model as the gold standard of medical training. This transformation occurred in the aftermath of the report, which embraced scientific knowledge and its advancement as the defining ethos of a modern physician. Such an orientation had its origins in the enchantment with German medical education that was spurred by the exposure of American educators and physicians at the turn of the century to the university medical schools of Europe. American medicine profited immeasurably from the scientific advances that this system allowed, but the hyper-rational system of German science created an imbalance in the art and science of medicine. A catching-up is under way to realign the professional commitment of the physician with a revision of medical education to achieve that purpose.

In the middle of the 17th century, an extraordinary group of scientists and natural philosophers coalesced as the Oxford Circle and created a scientific revolution in the study and understanding of the brain and consciousness. Thomas Willis, a student of William Harvey, Christopher Wren, Robert Boyle, and Robert Hooke were synergetic with one another in a shared scientific exploration. Christopher Wren's subsequent splendid achievement in the architectural design of St Paul's and other cathedrals resonated with Willis's delineation of the structure and function of the brain [1].
THE HOPKINS CIRCLE
A similar combustion of shared thought and imagination occurred at the beginning of the 20th century when a group of men who comprised what may be called the Hopkins Circle joined in a project that altered the course of medical education in America. They erected an edifice, not of bricks and mortar, but an edifice that became the system of medical education that we know more than a century later. Their successful efforts resulted in the science-based foundation of medical training that has made the United States the recognized leader in medical education and medical research today. Much of the credit for this transformation has been appropriately attributed to Abraham Flexner and his critique of medical education contained in his Flexner Report of 1910 [2]. The contributions of several other members of the Hopkins Circle should not be overlooked, nor the importance of the synergy that the Circle generated underestimated.
ABRAHAM FLEXNER, THE EDUCATOR AND REFORMER
The final member of the Circle was Abraham Flexner, a former school teacher and expert on educational practices whose background and training made him an outlier in the Circle. He was the sixth of seven siblings in a Louisville, Kentucky, Jewish family whose father was a struggling but unsuccessful business man. Education and being well educated had become the secular faith that replaced religious orthodoxy for Abraham and most of his siblings. He was able to attend Johns Hopkins University through a gift and beneficence of his older brother, Simon, who was then a pharmacist in Louisville and later achieved great eminence as the head of the Rockefeller Institute.
-—-
CONCLUSION
There was maldevelopment in the structure of medical education in America in the aftermath of the Flexner Report. The profession's infatuation with the hyper-rational world of German medicine created an excellence in science that was not balanced by a comparable excellence in clinical caring. Flexner's corpus was all nerves without the life blood of caring. Osler's warning that the ideals of medicine would change as "teacher and student chased each other down the fascinating road of research, forgetful of those wider interests to which a hospital must minister" [18] has proven prescient and wise. We have learned that scientific medicine must travel linked to a professional ethos of caring that has been in place in our oaths and aspirations. Cross-talk must occur between the two with a bi-directional bedside to bench dialogue. This creates the frisson that animates the quest for breakthroughs in a medical realm. The revisions in medical education that are now taking place are re-claiming the rightful eminence of the service component of medicine - the centerpiece of the doctor-patient relationship. The Flexner model remains in place, the foundation of the magnificent edifice that is American medicine.

NSA own inquiry and acknowledgement[edit]
By 2003, the NSA Inspector General (IG)[15] had declared Trailblazer an expensive failure.[31] It cost more than 1 billion dollars.[9][25][32][33]
In 2004, the DoD IG produced a final report of its investigation that had been prompted by Roark & the others in 2002. The report basically agreed with their assertions and found very serious flaws at NSA. For a time, the NSA was even banned from starting projects over a certain size, for fear it would waste the money. However, there were no plans to release this DoD IG report to the public at the time.[27]
Eventual whistleblowing[edit]
In a 2011 New Yorker article, journalist Jane Mayer wrote that Drake felt the NSA was committing serious crimes against the American people, on a level worse than what President Nixon had done in the 1970s. Drake reviewed the laws regarding disclosure of information, and decided that if he revealed unclassified information to a reporter, then the worst thing that would happen to him was probably that he would be fired.[21]
In November 2005, Drake contacted Siobhan Gorman of The Baltimore Sun newspaper, sending her emails through Hushmail and discussing various topics.[9][22] He claims that he was very careful not to give her sensitive or classified information; it was one of the basic ground rules he set out at the beginning of their communication. This communication occurred around 2006.[34] Gorman wrote several articles about waste, fraud, and abuse at the NSA, including articles on Trailblazer. She received an award from the Society of Professional Journalists for her series exposing government wrongdoing.[9] Judge Richard Bennett later ruled that "there is no evidence that Reporter A relied upon any allegedly classified information found in Mr. Drake's house in her articles".[35]
2007 FBI raids[edit]
In July 2007, armed FBI agents raided the homes of Roark, Binney, and Wiebe, the same people who had filed the complaint with the DoD Inspector General in 2002.[27] Binney claims they pointed guns at his wife and himself. Wiebe said it reminded him of the Soviet Union.[21] None of these people were charged with any crimes. In November 2007, there was a raid on Drake's residence. His computers, documents, and books were confiscated. He was never charged with giving any sensitive information to anyone; the charge actually brought against him is for 'retaining' information (18 U.S.C. § 793(e)).[20] The FBI tried to get Roark to testify against Drake; she refused.[21] Reporter Gorman was not contacted by the FBI.[15][22]
Drake initially cooperated with the investigation, telling the FBI about the alleged illegality of the NSA's activities.[21] The government created a 'draft indictment' of Drake, prepared by prosecutor Steven Tyrrell. It listed charges as "disclosing classified information to a newspaper reporter and for conspiracy". Diane Roark, Binney, Wiebe, and Loomis (the complainants to the DoD IG in 2002) were also allegedly listed as "unindicted co-conspirators".[27] In 2009 a new prosecutor came on the case, William Welch II,[15][21] and changed the indictment. Some charges were removed, as was any naming of 'co-conspirators'. The new case only contained charges against Drake.[27]
Prosecutors wanted Drake to plead guilty, but he refused. He believed that he was innocent of the charges against him.[15] The government wanted him to help prosecute the other whistleblowers. He refused this as well.[21] He later explained his motivations to the Ridenhour Prizes organization:
I did what I did because I am rooted in the faith that my duty was to the American people … I knew that you did not spy on Americans and that we were accountable for spending American taxpayer monies wisely.[36]
