This business insider story is pretty wild
Exclusive: Inside the extramarital affair and cash-fueled double life of Charles McGonigal, the FBI spy hunter charged with taking Russian money
>https://www.businessinsider.com/charles-mcgonigal-fbi-indictment-allison-guerriero-russia-deripaska-spies-nypd-giuliani-2023-1
McGonigal was having an affair with this drunk MAGA patriot woman who loves Rudy Giuliani and would bang McGonigal in FBI SUVs. Some guys have all the luck.
>Guerriero recalls McGonigal using the FBI's resources for their relationship. Once, they had sex in an SUV that she understood to be federal government property.
>Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani of New York City, whom she knew from law-enforcement circles, let her stay in a guest bedroom. Since then, Guerriero has been a frequent on-air caller for Giuliani's radio shows. She maintains that the 2020 election was marred by widespread voter fraud, a belief pushed by Giuliani that has been repeatedly debunked. "Whatever Giuliani says about the 2020 election is what I believe," she said. During her relationship with McGonigal, Guerriero says, they never talked about politics. "I thought he was apolitical," he said, "which is something I continue to believe."
When McGonigal broke it off with the lush, she started harassing his family and snitched on to him to the FBI. Be nice to the women you bang, anons. If not, they will fuck your shit up
>A few months later, Guerriero, after a bout of drinking, dashed off an angry email to William Sweeney, who was in charge of the FBI's New York City bureau, and who, she recalls, had first introduced her to McGonigal. She remembers telling Sweeney in the email that he should look into their extramarital affair, and also McGonigal's dealings in Albania
>By her own account, Guerriero contacted one of McGonigal's children despite being prohibited from doing so by a court order, an incident that led to her spending the night in a New Jersey jail. The court order stemmed from a 2019 police report, obtained by Insider, that McGonigal's wife, Pamela, filed with the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland. The report states that McGonigal and Guerriero "had a relationship" and that Guerriero had repeatedly harassed her with unwelcome emails and phone calls - including 20 calls in one day - despite her asking Guerriero to stop.
Truth is stranger than fiction. A recommended read. Business Insider doing some good leg work.

Lionel Virgile Charged For Throwing Bleach In NYPD Officer's Face, Tossing Lit Molotov Cocktail At Other Officers
A criminal complaint was filed today in federal court in Brooklyn charging Lionel Virgile with attempted arson by allegedly using an improvised incendiary device commonly known as a "Molotov Cocktail" to damage and destroy a New York City Police Department (NYPD) vehicle while police officers were inside the vehicle. Virgile was arrested on Saturday and made his initial appearance this afternoon before United States Magistrate Judge Robert M. Levy. The defendant was ordered detained pending trial.
"As alleged, the defendant deliberately sought to severely injure an NYPD police officer by throwing bleach at his eyes and to ignite an NYPD vehicle with officers inside by hurling a lit Molotov cocktail at it," stated Acting United States Attorney Mark Lesko. "This Office simply will not tolerate the intentional infliction of physical harm on NYPD officers while they are working to protect our communities." Mr. Lesko thanked the Kings County District Attorney's Office for their assistance with the investigation.
"Virgile's alleged attack on members of the NYPD is yet another reminder of the danger law enforcement officers face on a daily basis-and today's charges should serve as a reminder to all that this type of behavior will be met with a swift response. As Virgile has now learned, the federal charge he faces carries the potential for a lengthy federal prison sentence. The NYPD's quick response in neutralizing this threat to the public is a testament to its professionalism and dedication to keeping our city safe," stated FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney.
"Attacks on uniformed police officers, as alleged in this federal complaint, are not only crimes against our sworn public servants but are unacceptable assaults on the fabric of society. I commend our NYPD officers and our partners in the FBI and the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York for working closely to ensure that Lionel Virgile, the accused assailant in this case, faces justice," stated NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea.
According to the complaint, in the morning of April 17, 2021, NYPD officers in a marked vehicle observed Virgile drive his Lincoln Town Car through a steady red traffic light at the intersection of Clarendon Road and East 45th Street in East Flatbush. When the officers approached Virgile's car, he opened the driver side door and threw a cup containing a chemical substance in one of the NYPD officer's eyes that was later determined to be bleach.

'Feds Allege 'Lottery Lawyer' Stole Millions from $1.5B Mega Millions Jackpot Winner
Posted on: August 21, 2020, 09:02h. Last updated on: August 21, 2020, 10:38
Federal authorities say Jason Kurland, 46, the so-called "Lottery Lawyer," allegedly swindled more than $70 million from a woman who won the record $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot in October of 2018.
Jason Kurland describes himself as the "Lottery Lawyer." But feds in New York allege he's nothing more than a scam artist. (Image: Jason Kurland)
The woman chose to remain anonymous, which is permitted under lottery regulations in South Carolina. She kept the lottery world on edge by waiting several months to claim her prize, which she did in March of 2019.
It appears she did what many financial advisors recommend: consult with a lawyer and/or wealth management professional before choosing a prize payment option.
The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York says Kurland, along with three co-conspirators, allegedly cost the Mega Millions winner tens of millions of dollars. The named co-conspirators are Christopher Chierchio, 52, Frangesco Russo, 38, and Francis Smookler, 45. All are New York residents, as is Kurland.
On his website, which has since been taken down, Kurland advises lottery winners to keep their news to themselves and talk to a professional.
"[Initial decisions] could end up costing or saving you and your family millions upon millions of dollars," Kurland declared
Multiple Victims
Federal prosecutors allege Kurland and his coconspirators took advantage of at least three lottery winners. Along with the $1.5 billion Mega Millions winner, authorities claim another won a $245 million Powerball jackpot, and a third won a $150 million jackpot.
Each victim paid Kurland hundreds of thousands of dollars to advise them on how to safely invest their money, the DOJ says. After initially living up to his end of the deal and gaining each victim's trust, prosecutors allege Kurland then steered his clients to invest in various businesses controlled by the three coconspirators, with Kurland receiving large kickbacks in return.
The Justice Department believes Kurland swindled the three winners out of a combined $107 million.
"Lottery winners can't believe their luck when they win millions of dollars, and the men we arrested this morning allegedly used that euphoric feeling to their advantage," stated FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney. "The FBI New York discovered how these victims were persuaded to put large chunks of their cash into investments that benefited the defendants."
The South Carolina woman took the lump-sum payment option of $877.8 million, the largest jackpot payout to a single winner in US history. She has donated much of its to various South Carolina charities and organizations.
Kurland has been released on $1 million bond. He's charged with 21 counts, including six counts of wire fraud, eight counts of honest services wire fraud, and money laundering.
Kurland Denies Allegations
Kurland flaunts that he has assisted lottery winners who have won more than $3 billion during his 20-year legal career.
Kurland's attorney representing him on the charges says it's been an "unblemished legal career." The law firm of Rivkin Radler, where Kurland is a partner,. denied any knowledge of his alleged scheme. Kurland has since been removed from the legal firm's website.
On his "Lottery Lawyer" website, Kurland says winners should call him first, even before contacting the state's lottery commission. "I can help secure your wealth for generations," he stated.

Iona College basketball announcer hit with federal child porn charges
The "voice of Iona College basketball" has been hit with "deeply disturbing" child pornography charges, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Rich Leaf, 72, a retired teacher and a member of the Westchester County Sports Hall of Fame, is accused of receiving lewd images of minors by creating at least a dozen screen names in an online chat room, the US Attorney's Office in the Southern District said in a press release.
He is charged with one count of receiving child pornography, prosecutors said.
"As we allege in this case, Mr. Leaf used Skype to chat with his victims," FBI Assistant Director William Sweeney said in a statement. "I'd like to stress to parents that, although these contacts may occur in a virtual world, they harm your children in the real world."
According to a federal complaint, Leaf used the name "Alex Bronson" to convince a 15-year-old boy to send him nude and shower photos - among nearly a dozen images the FBI says it found on his computer at his home in Somers.
Leaf has been involved in Westchester County high school athletics for decades, and is a longtime announcer for the Iona College Gaels - identifying himself on his Twitter page as the "Voice of Iona College Basketball."
He is a retired Harrison middle school social studies teacher.
In a statement, Iona Director of Athletics Matthew Glovaski noted that Leaf is not a college employee but an outside contractor hired to call games - and described the allegations as "disturbing."
"Iona College has learned of disturbing allegations involving an individual who was contracted to announce basketball games for the past several years," Glovaski said. "At this time, none of the allegations have any association with the College. Iona takes all allegations of misconduct seriously, including against vendors."
Leaf did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post on Wednesday.
However, he told lohud.com that he did not know how the images landed on his computer and suggested that he had been hacked.
"They stem from a hacking of my computer," he told the news outlet. "I really don't know how it was done."
But asked if he had posed as a teenager online, he said "there is some truth in it, yes."
Leaf was released on a $100,000 bond, prosecutors said.

NYPD cop accused of spying on Tibetan immigrants for China
By Tom Hays Published 15 hours ago Updated 9 hours ago NyAssociated Press
NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City police officer was charged on Monday with being an "intelligence asset" for the Chinese government who agreed to spy on U.S. supporters of the Tibetan independence movement.
Baimadajie Angwang, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Tibet, worked since 2018 as an agent for the People's Republic of China in its effort to suppress the movement, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn federal court. It says he secretly worked for unnamed handlers from the Chinese consulate in New York.
There was no allegation that Angwang compromised national security or New York Police Department operations. Still, he was considered "the definition of an insider threat," William Sweeney, head of the FBI's New York office, said in a statement.
Angwang, 33, was ordered held without bail at an initial court hearing on Monday. There was no immediate response to a phone message seeking comment from his lawyer.
Along with being a NYPD officer, Angwang is a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve who was given security clearance by the Department of Defense, according to court papers that accuse him of lying during a background check that got him that status.
Angwang's job as a spy for China was to "locate potential intelligence sources" and "identify potential threats to the PRC in the New York metropolitan area," court papers say. He also was expected to provide consulate officials "access to senior NYPD officials through invitations to official NYPD events," they add.
The papers say the evidence includes intercepted communications between Angwang and a consulate official - someone Angwang called "big brother" and "boss" - about how to identify dissenters in the independence movement.
"They don't believe in Tibetan Buddhism," Angwang told the handler, according to the papers. "When the consulate extends a helping hand to them, they will feel the warmth of the motherland. How wonderful would that be?"
At one point, Angwang suggested that issuing 10-year visas to Tibetans in the United States would help recruit other spies, the papers say.
Angwang has worked at an NYPD precinct in Queens as a community liaison, authorities said. Before becoming a citizen, he sought asylum by claiming he had been arrested and tortured in China partly because of his Tibetan ethnicity, they said.
An advocacy group, International Campaign for Tibet, said in a statement that the arrest shows that the "Chinese Communist Party is engaged in malign operations to suppress dissent, not only in Tibet ... but any place in the world where Tibetans are free to express themselves."

'October Surprise': New details emerge about FBI delay on Weiner laptop in 2016
New details have emerged about 2016's "October Surprise," during which the FBI found emails belonging to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on disgraced New York Rep. Anthony Weiner's laptop, with the FBI official who found the emails speaking out for the first time.
FBI agent John Robertson, who worked in its New York office's child sex crimes unit and was later cited (though not named) in Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz's 2018 report on the handling of the investigation of Clinton's unauthorized private email server, spoke with the Washington Post's Devin Barrett for his upcoming book, October Surprise: How the FBI Tried to Save Itself and Crashed an Election. Robertson unearthed tens of thousands of Clinton emails in late September 2016 on the laptop belonging to Weiner, the husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, in a sex crimes case involving underage girls, but for weeks after being alerted, top FBI leaders (including fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, fired FBI agent Peter Strzok, and former FBI counterintelligence chief Bill Priestap) took little to no action to investigate.
A letter from fired FBI Director James Comey to Congress in late October about the email discovery, shortly after he was finally briefed on it, disrupted the election - and would be blamed by some for President Trump's victory.
"The crickets I was hearing was really making me uncomfortable because something was going to come down," Robertson said he later told Justice Department investigators. "Why isn't anybody here? Like if I'm the supervisor of any [counterintelligence] squad ... and I hear about this, I'm getting on with headquarters and saying, 'Hey, some agent working child porn here may have [Hillary Clinton] emails. Get your ass on the phone, call [the case agent], and get a copy of that drive,' because that's how it should be. And that nobody reached out to me within, like, that night, I still to this day don't understand what the hell went wrong."
Robertson wrote a "Letter to Self" in late October after an Oct. 19, 2016, meeting, during which he implored Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Kramer of the Southern District of New York to push FBI leadership to look at the thousands of emails he had unearthed.
"I have very deep misgivings about the institutional response of the FBI to the congressional investigation into the Hillary Clinton email matter ... Put simply: I don't believe the handling of the material I have by the FBI is ethically or morally right. But my lawyer's advice - that I simply put my SSA on notice should cover me - is that I have completed CYA [Cover Your Ass], and I have done so," Robertson wrote. "Further, I was told by [Kramer] that should I 'whistleblow,' I will be prosecuted."
Robertson continued: "I possess - the FBI possesses - 20 times more emails than Comey testified to. … While Comey did not know at the time about what I have, people in the FBI do now, and as far as I know, we are being silent. ... If I say or do nothing more, I am falling short ethically and morally. And later, I may be accused of being a Hillary Clinton hack because of the timing of all this. … But if I say something (i.e., whistleblow), I will lose my reputation, my career, and risk prosecution. I will also be accused of being a Donald Trump hack."
He wrote that "nothing could be further from the truth" because "I am apolitical."
Horowitz's 2018 report on the Clinton email investigation noted a federal search warrant was obtained on Sept. 26, 2016, for Weiner's devices and that the "Weiner case agent" (Robertson) noticed "within hours" that there were "over 300,000 emails on the laptop," including between Clinton and Abedin. The FBI New York Field Office's William Sweeney was alerted two days later, and key FBI executives such as McCabe were informed by Sweeney.

Text messages show McCabe, Strzok, and Priestap discussed the Weiner laptop on Sept. 28, 2016, and Strzok said he initially planned to send a team to New York to review the emails, but a call with the FBI's New York office was scheduled next day instead. Horowitz wrote that "after October 4, we found no evidence that anyone associated with the Midyear investigation, including the entire leadership team at FBI Headquarters, took any action on the Weiner laptop issue until the week of October 24, and then did so only after the Weiner case agent expressed concerns to SDNY, prompting SDNY to contact the Office of the Deputy Attorney General on October 21 to raise concerns."
Horowitz said that the FBI's explanations were "unpersuasive justifications for not acting sooner" and "the fact that Strzok and several other FBI members of the Midyear team had been assigned to the Russia investigation … was not an excuse for failing to take any action."
The DOJ watchdog also unearthed anti-Trump texts between Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair. In one Aug. 6, 2016, exchange, Page said, "Trump should go f himself." Strzok responded, "F Trump." Two days later, Page texted, "[Trump's] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!" Strzok replied, "No. No he's not. We'll stop it." Strzok was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's team in 2017 after the texts were disclosed and was later fired from the bureau.
"In assessing the decision to prioritize the Russia investigation over following up on the Midyear-related investigative lead discovered on the Weiner laptop, we were particularly concerned about text messages sent by Strzok and Page that potentially indicated or created the appearance that investigative decisions they made were impacted by bias," Horowitz wrote, adding that "we did not have confidence that Strzok's decision to prioritize the Russia investigation over following up on the Midyear-related investigative lead discovered on the Weiner laptop was free from bias."
Horowitz did conclude, however, that "we found no evidence in emails, text messages, instant messages, or documents that suggested an improper purpose."
"There was simply no equivalence between Midyear and Crossfire," Strzok claimed in his new book, Compromised, referring to the Clinton emails investigation and the Trump-Russia investigation. "At its core, Midyear was a glorified (because it involved Hillary Clinton) mishandling case, the type that but for the celebrity subject rolls throng WFO on a weekly basis. Crossfire was a first-of-its-kind, enormous investigation into complex, ongoing attacks on our presidential elections and Russian interactions with members of one of the candidate's campaigns. Of course, I had prioritized that."
Horowitz wrote that "the FBI's inaction had potentially far-reaching consequences" because Comey told Horowitz that "had he known about the laptop in the beginning of October and thought the email review could have been completed before the election, it may have affected his decision to notify Congress." Comey told Horowitz, "I don't know [if] it would have put us in a different place, but I would have wanted to have the opportunity."
Comey announced Clinton was "extremely careless" in handling classified emails during a July 2016 speech, adding that he would not recommend criminal charges. Clinton's IT team had deleted 33,000 supposedly non-work-related emails.
Comey sent a letter to Congress on Oct. 28, 2016, revealing that "the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation" and that the FBI would "allow investigators to review these emails." On Nov. 6, 2016, he sent a follow-up letter that "we have not changed our conclusions" about not charging Clinton.
Trump defeated Clinton 304-227 in the Electoral College two days later.

2016 Election Inspector General Report confirms CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN.
Therefore we don't owe her an apology for shit.

Discovery in September 2016 of Emails
on the Weiner Laptop
Discovery of Emails by the FBI's New York Field Office
In September 2016, the FBI's New York Field Office
(NYO) and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern
District of New York (SDNY) began investigating former
Congressman Anthony Weiner for his online relationship
with a minor. A federal search warrant was obtained on
September 26, 2016, for Weiner's iPhone, iPad, and
laptop computer. The FBI obtained these devices the
same day. The search warrant authorized the
government to search for evidence relating to the
following crimes: transmitting obscene material to a
minor, sexual exploitation of children, and activities
related to child pornography.
The Weiner case agent told the OIG that he began
processing Weiner's devices on September 26, and that
he noticed "within hours" that there were "over 300,000
emails on the laptop." He said that either that evening
or the next morning, he saw at least one BlackBerry PIN
message between Clinton and Abedin, as well as emails
between them. He said that he recalled seeing emails
associated with "about seven domains," such as
yahoo.com, state.gov, clintonfoundation.org,
clintonemail.com, and hillaryclinton.com. The case
agent immediately notified his NYO chain of command,
and the information was ultimately briefed to NYO

. Discovery of Emails by the FBI's New York Field Office
A. Seizure of Weiner Laptop and Devices
In September 2016, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern
District of New York (SDNY) began investigating former Congressman Anthony
Weiner for his online relationship with a minor. The FBI's New York Field Office
(NYO) was in charge of the investigation. A federal search warrant was obtained on
September 26, 2016, for Weiner's iPhone, iPad, and laptop computer. The FBI
obtained these devices the same day. The search warrant authorized the
government to search for evidence relating to the following crimes: transmitting
obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation of children, and activities related to
child pornography.
*Page 276
The AUSAs provided written guidance to the case agent about how to handle
review of the laptop. In a September 28 email to the case agent and the SSA,
AUSA 1 advised that the case agent should review "only evidence of crimes related
to the sexual exploitation of children, enticement, and obscenity" and instructed the
case agent "that all emails and other communications between Anthony Weiner and
Huma Abedin (even if there are other parties to the communication) should be
sequestered and not reviewed at this time." The case agent agreed and responded
that the "[o]nly emails I will review are those to/from Weiner accounts to which
[Huma Abedin] is not party."

Coleman told us that he kept regularly took notes in a journal. Coleman's
notes from October 4 contained the following entry:
(1) Anthony Wiener [sic]
(2) [Unrelated]
(3) Wiener [sic] - texting 15 yo - Sexually Explicit
9/26 - Federal SW - IPhone/IPAD/Laptop

"We have been discretely keeping tabs on Maxwell's whereabouts as we worked this investigation," FBI assistant director-in-charge William Sweeney said during a press conference Thursday. "More recently we learned she slithered away to a gorgeous property in New Hampshire, continuing to live a life of privilege while her victims live with the trauma inflicted upon them years ago."
Acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss did not specify the address of the property Maxwell had purchased in December, but Bradford records reveal that there is only one property in the town with a lot the size of 156 acres, which was sold for $1,070,750 on Dec. 12, according to Zillow.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday denounced violence against police and urged prosecutors to charge looters with crimes that come with bail to keep them from hitting the streets shortly after arrest and resuming their crime spree.
Speaking at his daily briefing on June 4, Cuomo called instances of violence against police "intolerable," describing a situation the night before when two NYPD officers suffered gunshot wounds to their hands and one was ambushed and stabbed in the neck.
"The police are doing an impossible job. They're trying to deal with the protesters. They're trying to stop looting. And they're trying to keep themselves safe because the police want to go home to their families," Cuomo said.
The officers are expected to recover, and the FBI has launched an investigation into what William Sweeney, head of the FBI's New York office, condemned as a "cowardly attack on the NYPD."
Cuomo said "there is no tolerance against violence against a police officer. Period," before calling on New York City district attorneys to act on what he said was plentiful evidence of criminal activity and "charge crimes appropriately."
Over the past week, looters and vandals have engaged in a spate of smash-and-grab thefts, targeting both big box stores and small businesses.
"You have scenes of looting that are on videotape that are indefensible and inexcusable. Looting is criminal activity, number one," Cuomo said. "Looting is exploiting this situation with the protests. They know that the police are going to be busy with the protesters. They're then using that as an opportunity to loot."

Prosecutors: Nude photos of apparent minors seized from Epstein residence
Federal prosecutors on Monday said investigators found nude photos of what appear to be underage girls at financier Jeffrey Epstein's residence in New York.
"Agents executed a search warrant on [Epstein's] mansion in New York City and recovered and seized evidence including nude photographs of what appear to be underage girls," Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, said at a press conference.
An FBI official said anyone who may have been hurt by Epstein or who has information about any alleged crimes should contact the agency.
"We are asking anyone who may have been victimized by Jeffrey Epstein, or anyone who may have information about his alleged criminal behavior, to please call us," FBI Assistant Director William Sweeney added in a statement. "The number is 1-800-CALL-FBI. We want to hear from you, regardless of the age you are now, or whatever age you were then, no matter where the incident took place."
Charges against Epstein were unsealed Monday for sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.
Epstein's attorney, Jack Goldberger, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill. Before the indictment was made public, Goldberger said his client would plead not guilty, according to Reuters.
More than a decade ago he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and was sentenced to serve just 13 months in prison, the Miami Herald reported.
The new indictment follows heavy criticism of the past prosecution of Epstein. Then-U.S. attorney and current Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta in particular has come under scrutiny for a deal that allowed Epstein to avoid a life sentence. Acosta has defended the arrangement, arguing it ensured Epstein would spend time behind bars.

I highly recommend anons read this. Page 50-60 Ms. Kim (Cummings stand in) had what appears to be a heated exchange with William Sweeney. He appears to be /ourguy/ based upon the way he speaks. Especially when he refers to a letter that he knew would leak out of congress. Keks
There is a lot in here that will help you understand more of the background into the wiener laptop and generally fuckery round about. I don't have everything that i found notable in this post, some of it spammed several pages covering a pretty broad range.
Read it and decide for yourself.
pg 8
Q During your tenure in the New York field office, as the Assistant or have in possession of the New York field office a laptop that was somehow associated to an Anthony Weiner?
A Yes.
Q And what was the nature of your investigation of the laptop initially?
A The nature of the investigation initially was crimes against children investigation, run off the violent crime branch, that involved Anthony Weiner.
pg 38
Q Were you aware of complaints within your office about the fact that a search was not conducted?
A No. The first – the first time I think I become aware of an issue is when we were doing document production for the IG, and there's an email from the case agent to himself describing a conversation he had with an AUSA, and his concern that things weren't moving quickly enough and people were sitting on it.
Q Can I just interrupt you? Is this a copy of that email?
A Yes. Yeah, I believe it is. So I think I become aware of this during the document production to the IG, and
we actually report this to our Inspection Division because I'm concerned that somebody is telling him to keep his mouth – I'm concerned that somebody from the U.S.attorney's office is telling him not to report this. So I'm essentially now reporting an AUSA for trying to stymie this guy.
>WHO WAS THE AUSA FROM NY TELLING THIS CHILD CRIMES CASE AGENT TO SHUT HIS MOUTH?
Q But you are concerned with that end of it, not with him actually wanting to whistleblow?
A No, I had no idea he wanted to whistleblow at the time.
pg 72 & 73
Q Have you ever personally worked on a matter where you felt that the Justice Department was not acting as an honest broker or following the facts where they led?
A No. I wouldn't want to get into prosecutorial decisions, but no. I think the answer is no.
Q I just want to elaborate. So have there been instances where you disagreed with prosecutorial decisions?
A I think I can – yeah.
Q Have you ever felt that those disagreements were based on anything but kind of legitimate strategic differences?
A Potentially.
Q Can you describe what other aspects those decisions would've been based on?
A Personal – I think personal differences of opinion with agents working a matter. I think that's about it.
Q So you have witnessed instances where you felt Justice Department lawyers were acting in bad faith out of a disagreement with FBI investigators?
A I don't know if I would describe it as "bad faith." I don't
COMMITTEE SENSITIVE
73
know the definition of "bad faith." There were other reasons. There's clearly other reasons a prosecutor –
I was concerned – could be concerned that a personal beef get in the way of a decision.
Q Can I ask you about a specific – what specifically you're thinking about right now?
A I think it would be an ongoing – could be an ongoing matter.
Q So there's an ongoing matter where you feel that the Justice Department was not acting as an honest broker or following the facts where they lead?
A I'd have to think about it, but potentially. I think it's been resolved. But I don't know if I want to get into it too much if it's an ongoing matter.

FBI says man planned to bomb National Mall on Election Day
Jim Mustian, Associated Press Updated 11:23 pm EDT, Wednesday, October 10, 2018
NEW YORK (AP) - Federal authorities have charged a New York man with building a 200-pound (90-kilogram) bomb they say he planned to detonate on Election Day on the National Mall in Washington.
Paul Rosenfeld, 56, of Tappan, was charged Wednesday with unlawfully manufacturing a destructive device and interstate transportation and receipt of an explosive.
Prosecutors said he planned to use the bomb to kill himself and draw attention to a political system called sortition, in which public officials are chosen randomly rather than elected.
It was not immediately clear whether Rosenfeld had an attorney. A message left with the federal public defender's office in White Plains, which often represents newly arrested criminal defendants, wasn't immediately returned.
The FBI raided Rosenfeld's home Tuesday and found a functional bomb in his basement that consisted of black powder inside a plywood box, according to a criminal complaint.
Agents also found empty canisters of black powder often used in firearms and artillery, the complaint said.
The FBI said in court filings that Rosenfeld, after being pulled over on Tuesday, confessed to ordering large quantities of black powder over the internet and having the substance delivered to "a location in New Jersey."
Rosenfeld took the black powder to New York, constructed smaller explosive devices and conducted test detonations, according to the criminal complaint.
William Sweeney Jr., the assistant director of the FBI's New York field office, said in a statement that Rosenfeld intended to "detonate a large explosive to kill himself and draw attention to his radical beliefs."
"Had he been successful, Rosenfeld's alleged plot could have claimed the lives of innocent bystanders and caused untold destruction," Sweeney said in the statement. "Fortunately, his plans were thwarted by the quick action of a concerned citizen and the diligent work of a host of our law enforcement partners and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force."
Rosenfeld had an initial court appearance before a magistrate at a federal courthouse in White Plains on Wednesday afternoon.

Teacher Sexted 100 Kids on Facebook, Molested Dozens Near Brooklyn
There's news tonight coming out of the Brooklyn, New York area, where a teacher from Leon M. Goldstein High School for Sciences in Manhattan Beach is facing charges for sexually enticing over 100 students to make child pornography. 34-year-old Jonathan Deutsch was employed for Leon M. Goldstein High School for Sciences in the campus of Kingsborough Community College near Manhattan Beach, New York, until this past January.
He was reassigned this past winter with the little reasoning given to students, parents, or colleagues, and an abrupt departure soon followed.
Now, federal prosecutors say he was interested in far more than educating the children that parents trusted him to teach.
"It is clear from the content of these conversations that the defendant targeted vulnerable, often prepubescent children and then used his status as a teacher, among other things, to develop a relationship with those children and thereby groom them for exploitation," said Richard P. Donoghue, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Deutsch engaged in a secret desire to have sexual relations with the children he was teaching, according to Prosecutors.
He also had an uncanny ability to manipulate their minds, either through making them promises of wealth or via gifts or activities he would pay for.
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York says that Deutsch would use Facebook to stalk his students as if they were prey.
Secretly messaging the children, Deutsch would use the names "Sam Morgan," and even "Jay Stern," contacting children over Facebook Messenger.
Court papers offer disturbing details of the alleged interactions. In one instance, Deutsch instructed a 16-year-old girl to drink her own urine, the papers say.
This past fall it was discovered that Deutsch was sexually enticing up to 100 children as young as ten-years-old on Facebook, and that sparked the investigation.
After an undercover operation to infiltrate the messages sent to and from Deutsch, the US Department of Justice said they were able to find far more disgusting details of previous sexual encounters with children.
Deutsch reportedly would ask the children to "jack off for the camera," linguistically attempting to exploit them into an agreement to masturbating on film, among other various sex acts.
"Our children deserve to grow up in a world where they don't have to face overcoming the horrors and scars of sexual abuse," said FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney in a statement.
He successfully isolated children who already had psychological and emotional issues, and were more vulnerable than the average child," Assistant US Attorney Megan Farrell said in a Brooklyn federal courtroom.
"These are photos of little kids smiling with headphones in their ears, children with braces, children with acne, children who don't even have pubic hair," Farrell told Brooklyn federal court magistrate judge as she implored him to lock up Deustch pending trial.
In some instances, at least 35 of the over 100 children actually met with Deutsch and engaged in some form of sexual relations with him.
Amidst his efforts, Deutsch attempted to have relations with over a hundred children and was either denied, or he was in the process of enticing them with lavish gifts.
Prosecutors say that one instance, Deutsch was posing as a 14-year-old child.
He was able to gain the trust of other students, and then confessed to having previously held relations with an 8-year-old child, who prosecutors only identified as "Jane Doe 3."

Two Former Deutsche Bank Traders Charged With Deceptive and Manipulative Trading Practices in U.S. Commodities Markets
Two former employees of Deutsche Bank AG, a global financial institution, were charged in an indictment returned by a Chicago federal grand jury yesterday with engaging in fraudulent and manipulative trading involving precious metals futures contracts, announced Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department's Criminal Division and Assistant Director in Charge William Sweeney of the FBI's New York Field Office.
James Vorley, 38, of the United Kingdom, and Cedric Chanu, 39, of France and the United Arab Emirates, were each charged in the Northern District of Illinois with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud affecting a financial institution and one count of wire fraud affecting a financial institution.
The indictment alleges that Vorley and Chanu, who were employed as traders at Deutsche Bank AG-Vorley based in London; Chanu based in London and Singapore-engaged in a years-long conspiracy to defraud other traders on the Commodity Exchange Inc., which was an exchange run by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group. The defendants and their co-conspirators, including former Deutsche Bank AG trader David Liew, are alleged to have defrauded other traders by placing fraudulent orders that they did not intend to execute in order to create the appearance of false supply and demand and to induce other traders to trade at prices, quantities and times that they otherwise would not have traded. The indictment further alleges that Vorley, Chanu, Liew and others placed such fraudulent and manipulative orders by themselves and in coordination with other traders at Deutsche Bank AG, including each other.
An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case was investigated by the FBI's New York Field Office. Assistant Deputy Chief Carol Sipperly and Trial Attorneys Michael T. O'Neill and Cory E. Jacobs of the Criminal Division's Fraud Section are prosecuting the case.

Sex-slave cult masters [child traffickers] Keith Raniere, Clare Bronfman and Allison Mack back in court as Nxivm member locked in a room for YEARS and then stranded in Mexico without ID for being affectionate with another man speaks
One Jane Doe claims that after showing affection for a man she was locked in a room for two years and then dropped in Mexico when she tried to escape
All six members of the cult have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them, and on Tuesday Bronfman posted $100 million bond for her release
Raniere's charges are: racketeering, forced labor, wire fraud, sex trafficking, attempted sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit identity theft
'Raniere and Lauren Salzman trafficked a victim, who was once a sexual partner of Raniere's, for labor and services,'read a statement released by the US Attorney's Office.
'The victim was confined to a room in Clifton Park, New York, for nearly two years as punishment for having romantic feelings for a man who was not Raniere.
'The victim was told that if she left the room she would be sent to Mexico without any identification documents.
'As threatened, she was driven to Mexico and her family was instructed by co-conspirators, including Lauren Salzman, not to send the victim her identification documents.
'Raniere and his inner circle, including the defendants Clare Bronfman, Allison Mack, Nancy Salzman, Lauren Salzman and Kathy Russell also known as 'Prefect,' and others known and unknown, comprised an organized criminal enterprise (the 'Enterprise'), reads the new indictment.
'The principal purpose of the Enterprise was to obtain financial and personal benefits for the members of the Enterprise by promoting the defendant Keith Raniere, also known as 'Vanguard,' and by recruiting new members into the Pyramid Organizations.
'By promoting Raniere and recruiting others into the Pytu-id Organizations, the members of the Enterprise expected to receive financial opportunities and increased power and status within the Enterprise.'
Among the criminal offenses that members of this group allegedly carried out are 'identity theft, harboring of aliens for financial gain, extortion, forced labor, sex trafficking, money laundering, wire fraud and obstruction of justice.'
As alleged in the superseding indictment, for over a decade, Keith Raniere was the leader of a racketeering conspiracy in which he and members of his inner circle committed a broad range of serious crimes from identity theft and obstruction of justice to sex trafficking, all to promote and protect Raniere and Nxivm,' said US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Richard Donoghue in a statement'
FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney also gave a statement on Tuesday.
'As alleged, this long-running conspiracy crossed multiple avenues of criminal activity, which included, among other things, electronic monitoring; identity theft; extortion; victim smuggling; and illegal trafficking of a victim after a period of unlawful confinement,' said Sweeney.
'The details of these alleged crimes become more and more grim as we continue to dig deeper into the conduct of this organization and its intended mission.
'Today's superseding indictment highlights our commitment to bringing justice to Nxivm's many victims.'

Former CIA official charged with unauthorized disclosure of classified info
Former CIA official Joshua Adam Schulte was charged in a new 13-count indictment in relation to the unauthorized theft and disclosure of classified national defense information from the agency, the Justice Department announced Monday. WikiLeaks is not mentioned by name, but the organization did publish last year some of the CIA's hacking tools in what became known as the "Vault 7" collection. "Leaks of classified information pose a danger to the security of all Americans," John Demers, assistant attorney general for national security, said in a statement. "It adds insult to injury when, as alleged here, the leaks come from former government officials in whom Americans placed their sacred trust."
"As alleged, Schulte utterly betrayed this nation and downright violated his victims. As an employee of the CIA, Schulte took an oath to protect this country, but he blatantly endangered it by the transmission of Classified Information," William Sweeney Jr., head of the New York FBI office, said in a statement.
Schulte's lawyer Sabrina Shroff said Monday that, "When all the evidence is clear, he's hardly the villain that the government tries to make him out to be," according to the Associated Press.
Schulte was previously charged with the receipt possession and transportation of child pornography and criminal copyright infringement. Schulte is currently detained due to the child pornography charges.

Goldman Sachs investment banker arrested on insider trading charges
A 37-year-old investment banker for Goldman Sachs was arrested Thursday on charges he used inside information on mergers for which the company was a financial adviser to garner more than $130,000 on stock trades.
Woojae "Steve" Jung, 37, of San Francisco, was charged with six counts of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan, where Goldman is headquartered.
Goldman, which is one of the six largest U.S. banks and has policies barring employees from any improper use of confidential information, said it's aware of the charges and is cooperating with federal investigators. Jung has been placed on leave, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Prosecutors said Jung and a co-conspirator in South Korea, who attended university together, used a brokerage account in the second person's name to conceal the trades, which involved securities of at least 10 companies including W.R. Grace and SanDisk, and were based on what the government considers material, nonpublic information.
They occurred from February 2015 through September 2017, authorities said. Jung worked at a Goldman office in the New York area from 2012 through 2015 before moving to the San Francisco office.
"Financial crimes, especially those that involve the exploitation of material nonpublic information of clients who have placed their trust in investment institutions, have a negative impact on the economy and individuals alike," said FBI Assistant Director William Sweeney.
In one of the early transactions, Jung purchased call options, or bets that a stock price will rise, for W.R. Grace after working on its plan to split into two separate companies, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a separate complaint alleging securities fraud and unjust enrichment.
He garnered profits of about $3,000 by exiting that position after Grace announced the plan in February 2015, a move that pushed its stock price up by 12 percent, the SEC said.
In October of the same year, the brokerage account Jung was using netted profits of about $40,000 from the sale of recently acquired stock and options in SanDisk in the wake of news reports on its pending takeover by Western Digital and the official announcement of the deal, the commission alleged.
The conspiracy charge filed by prosecutors carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison while the six counts of securities fraud each carry a maximum of 20 years.

Co-Conspirator 1 (CC1)
TV Actress Allison Mack is allegedly named as CC1 in the federal complaint against Keith Raniere.
She is expected to be arrested shortly, sources say.
Photo above Allison Mack in Mexico at the scene of Keith Raniere's arrest. It is believed her arrest is imminent for sex trafficking.
As of yesterday, Mack was in Mexico, living with Raniere.
Raniere himself was arrested yesterday by Federal Police in Mexico and immediately extradited to the USA.
It is believed the actress, who appeared in the hit TV show 'Smallville', will face sex trafficking charges.
Mack, 34, has been a member of NXIVM since 2006. Sources say she gave up her acting career at the direction of NXIVM leader Keith Raniere aka 'Vanguard'. She works closely with NXIVM leader Clare Bronfman, an heir to the Seagram's fortune.
Raniere, Bronfman and Mack are believed to have conspired to form and fund the brutal 'master-slave cult', which depends on blackmail to keep women in slavery.
Bronfman allegedly financed the entire operation. There has been no comment from the Bronfman family or their trustees.
The women who were coerced into slavery were branded on their pubic region with a hot iron in an excruciatingly painful procedure with the initials of Raniere and Allison Mack.
The brand with the initials of Keith Raniere and Allison Mack.
Keith Raniere - the co-founder of an allegedly torturous and psychologically manipulative secret society, NXIVM - was arrested by police in the resort town of Puerto Vallarta and brought to Texas on Monday, according to the Brooklyn US Attorney's office.
"Keith Raniere displayed a disgusting abuse of power in his efforts to denigrate and manipulate women he considered his sex slaves," FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney said.
Cult leader Keith Raniere has been arrested in Mexico.
"These serious crimes against humanity are not only shocking, but disconcerting to say the least, and we are putting an end to this torture today."
Raniere's influence extended to Hollywood where he roped in Smallville star Allison Mack who allegedly recruited 25 women into joining the cult, which also reportedly included Battlestar Galactica actress Nicki Clyne.
Sci-fi star Clyne is believed to be one of those who handed over damaging material as "collateral" in a bid to prove her loyalty to DOS - which stands for "dominus obsequious sororium" - Latin for "master over the slave women"

BILL, HILLARY CLINTON TIED TO SEX-SLAVES 'CULT'
Court documents: Women 'required to be naked,' 'threatened with being put in cages'
It's a bizarre and twisted tale of brainwashed sex "slaves" who were branded with a leader's initials on their private parts - and top executives of the secretive group in upstate New York reportedly pumped thousands of dollars into Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign
Raniere, co-founder of NXIVM, was arrested Monday in Mexico and extradited to the U.S., where he is being charged with sex trafficking. He appeared in court Tuesday in Texas and signed a waiver for US Marshals to bring him back to New York.
On Tuesday, THE FBI RAIDED THE ALBANY HOME OF NANCY SALZMAN, 63, A REGISTERED NURSE AND HYPNOTIST WHO IS PRESIDENT OF NXIVM. The organization describes itself as a "community guided by humanitarian principles that seek to empower people and answer important questions about what it means to be human." IN A SERIES OF ARTICLES PUBLISHED BY JAMES ODATO IN THE ALBANY TIMES UNION, NXIVM'S PRACTICES WERE QUESTIONED AND THE GROUP WAS COMPARED TO A CULT.
A criminal complaint charging Raniere, 57, with SEX TRAFFICKING ALLEGES that he made female followers have sex with him and do menial chores for masters. The women were reportedly forced to stay quiet about the arrangement or they would be publicly humiliated.
According to the complaint, victims were branded in their pelvic areas with a symbol featuring Raniere's initials. The branding was performed with a cauterizing pen. Raniere was reportedly known as "The Vanguard."
"During the branding ceremonies, slaves were required to be fully naked, and the master would order one slave to film with the other held down the slave being branded," the legal document states, according to CBS News.
The NXIVM website describes Raniere as a "scientist, mathematician, philosopher, entrepreneur, educator, inventor and author" who has "devoted his life to studying the human psychodynamic and developing new tools for human empowerment, expression and ethics."
Senior FBI official William Sweeney told BBC News: "KEITH RANIERE DISPLAYED A DISGUSTING ABUSE OF POWER IN HIS EFFORTS TO DENIGRATE AND MANIPULATE WOMEN HE CONSIDERED HIS SEX SLAVES. HE ALLEGEDLY PARTICIPATED IN HORRIFYING ACTS OF BRANDING AND BURNING THEM, WITH THE CO-OPERATION OF OTHER WOMEN OPERATING WITHIN THIS UNORTHODOX PYRAMID SCHEME. These serious crimes against humanity are not only shocking, but disconcerting to say the least, and we are putting an end to this torture today."
In 2017, Raniere denied the claims against him in a letter on his website, stating, "These allegations are most disturbing to me as non-violence is one of my most important values."
In October 2007, then-New York Post writer Charles Hurt reported that leaders of the Albany group gave thousands to Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign. And Salzman, the woman whose home was reportedly raided by the FBI, is reportedly a member of the Clinton Global Initiative.
.
Hurt reported:
Executives and top associates of the Albany-based NXIVM group - along with their family members - donated $29,900 to Clinton's presidential campaign, according to federal records.

U.S. Prosecutors Want to 'Break' Ghislaine Maxwell, Her Brother Alleges
Some very famous people should be getting nervous
By James Samson November 26, 2021
The trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, the alleged former madam of the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, is finally set to begin on Monday. The 59-year-old disgraced British socialite's brother Ian Maxwell is now speaking out to describe this as "the most over-hyped trial of the century," accusing U.S. prosecutors of trying to "break" his sister.
Ian told The Associated Press that this is "the most over-hyped trial of the century without a doubt. This is designed to break her; I can't see any other way to read it. ... And she will not be broken because she believes completely in her innocence, and she is going to give the best account she can."
Maxwell has been accused of grooming underage girls for sex with Epstein and sometimes participating in the abuse herself. She has been in custody for 17 months, with the vast majority of that time being in solitary confinement after Judge Alison Nathan denied her bail requests multiple times.
At the time of Maxwell's arrest in July of 2020, prosecutors alleged that she was responsible for luring young girls in so that they could fall into the trap she and Epstein set for them.
"Ms. Maxwell chose to blatantly disregard the law and her responsibility as an adult, using whatever means she had at her disposal to lure vulnerable youth into behavior they should never have been exposed to, creating the potential for lasting harm," FBI Assistant Director William Sweeney said at the time.
However, Ian is not having any of this, as he believes his sister has been made a scapegoat for Epstein's crimes by American authorities. Epstein allegedly killed himself in prison in August of 2019 while awaiting trial on his own sex crimes, although there is new evidence that suggests otherwise.
"This is not quite a put-up job, but nonetheless has been cobbled together so that Ghislaine is made to face the charges that Epstein never faced," Ian said.
Ian is furious that his sister has repeatedly been denied bail, as he says she is being kept in "effective isolation" at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn in a 6- by 9-foot (1.8- by 2.7-meter) cell.
"The denial of bail is wholly inappropriate," Ian said. "Some very famous, infamous people were granted bail as most recently the killer of George Floyd, a murderer. John Gotti, another murderer, a mobster. Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Bernie Madoff. These are all men, of course, who got bail. Ghislaine is a woman who somehow doesn't get bail."
"The authorities are feeling under pressure ... because they lost (Epstein), and they're feeling under the public's pressure, and that combination of pressure is keeping Ghislaine inside," her brother added. "But it still doesn't make it right."

Huma Abedin lays blame of Clinton loss squarely at Comey's feet
by Jerry Dunleavy, Justice Department Reporter | November 03, 2021 07:00 AM
<> { 1 of 2 }
Huma Abedin placed the blame for Hillary Clinton's 2016 loss on James Comey, claiming the fired FBI director's "decision to play God" is why former President Donald Trump won.
FBI agent John Robertson, who worked in the bureau's child sex crimes unit in New York, unearthed tens of thousands of Clinton emails in late September 2016 on the laptop
belonging to Abedin's husband, disgraced former New York congressman Anthony Weiner.
But for weeks after being alerted, top FBI leaders, including then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe , then FBI agent Peter Strzok , and former FBI counterintelligence chief Bill Priestap, took little to no action to investigate. The trio is not mentioned in Abedin's new book, Both/And.
A letter from Comey to Congress in late October 2016 about the email discovery, shortly after he was finally briefed on it, disrupted the election.
Abedin wrote in her book that "most of all, the totally gratuitous reopening of the FBI email investigation, had tilted the election" in Trump's favor.
"For a long time, Comey was a daily nightmare for me, and even now the thought of what he did sometimes creeps in to torture me," she wrote.
"But I have slowly come to accept that I am not the sole cause of the 2016 election loss. One man's decision to play God forever changed the course of history.
It should not be my burden to carry the rest of my life. It should be his."
She ignored revelations about the timing that have since come to light.
Robertson implored Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Kramer of the Southern District of New York during an Oct. 19, 2016,
meeting to push FBI leadership to look at the thousands of emails he had unearthed.
DOJ Inspector General Horowitz's 2018 report on the Clinton email investigation noted a search warrant was obtained on Sept. 26, 2016,
for Weiner's devices and that the "Weiner case agent" (Robertson) noticed "within hours" that there were "over 300,000 emails on the laptop," including between Clinton and Abedin.
The FBI New York Field Office's William Sweeney was alerted two days later, and key FBI executives such as McCabe were quickly informed by Sweeney.
Horowitz's report concluded that "by no later than September 29, 2016, FBI executives and the FBI Midyear team had learned virtually every fact that was cited by the FBI
in late October as justification for obtaining the search warrant for the Weiner laptop."
Yet Horowitz wrote: "After October 4, we found no evidence that anyone associated with the Midyear investigation, including the entire leadership team at FBI Headquarters,
took any action on the Weiner laptop issue until the week of October 24, and then did so only after the Weiner case agent expressed concerns to SDNY,
prompting SDNY to contact the Office of the Deputy Attorney General on October 21."
Strzok exchanged anti-Trump texts with former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair. Horowitz wrote,
"We did not have confidence that Strzok's decision to prioritize the Russia investigation over following up on the Midyear-related investigative lead discovered
on the Weiner laptop was free from bias."
Abedin repeatedly claimed neither she nor Weiner knew how her emails came to be on Weiner's laptop.
Abedin said she learned the Clinton email investigation was being reopened in late October 2016 when Clinton campaign communications director
Jen Palmieri told her and that "the instant she said 'Anthony,' my heart stopped."
Abedin wrote, "This man was going to ruin me, and now he was going to jeopardize HRC's chances of winning the presidency."

Former Deutsche Bank Commodities Trader Sentenced to Prison for Fraud Scheme
A former commodities trader was sentenced today in the Northern District of Illinois to 12 months and a day in prison for a scheme to commit wire fraud affecting a financial institution.
James Vorley, 41, of the United Kingdom, was convicted by a federal jury on Sept. 25, 2020. Based on the evidence presented at trial, Vorley, who was employed as a precious metals trader at Deutsche Bank in London, engaged in a scheme to defraud other traders on the Commodity Exchange Inc., which was a public exchange. The defendant, together with Cedric Chanu and other Deutsche Bank traders, defrauded other market participants through a deceptive trading practice known as "spoofing." Specifically, Vorley placed fraudulent orders that he did not intend to execute in order to create the false appearance of supply and demand and to induce other traders to transact at prices, quantities, and times that they otherwise would not have traded. Chanu is scheduled to be sentenced on June 28.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L. McQuaid of the Justice Department's Criminal Division and Assistant Director in Charge William Sweeney of the FBI's New York Field Office made the announcement.
The FBI's New York Field Office investigated the case.
Deputy Chief Brian Young, Acting Principal Assistant Chief Avi Perry, and Trial Attorney Leslie S. Garthwaite of the Criminal Division's Fraud Section are prosecuting the case.

Announcing charges against Jeffrey Epstein at a Monday morning news conference, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman credited the help of reporters.
"We were assisted by some excellent investigative journalism," he said.
William Sweeney, assistant director-in-charge of the FBI's New York office, added: "We work with facts. When the facts presented themselves, as Mr. Berman hinted at, through investigative journalists' work, we moved on it."
They were likely referring to the Miami Herald's three-part series "Perversion of Justice," which sparked renewed scrutiny and public interest in the Epstein case by shedding light on a secret deal that allowed him to avoid serious charges in 2008. The investigative series identified about 80 women who say they were sexually abused by Epstein from 2001 to 2006 and quoted four of his alleged victims on the record for the first time. Julie K. Brown, who received a George Polk Award for justice reporting for the series, said on Twitter that "the REAL HEROES HERE were the courageous victims that faced their fears and told their stories."

But while the people who actually helped bring Epstein closer to justice were quick to credit others, another community baselessly claimed the credit for themselves. Since Epstein has long been accused of serial abuse of minors, he has been featured in the online conspiracy theories Pizzagate and QAnon. But when online conspiracy theorists aren't rehashing old reporting about Epstein, they're promoting some of the most absurd claims ever posted on social media. QAnon followers of various stripes believe that military intelligence officials post coded messages on the imageboard 8chan, John F. Kennedy Jr. faked his death in 1999, and Hillary Clinton has been secretly arrested.
It would be comforting to believe the warped, reality-defying worldview of online conspiracy theorists is so quarantined from mainstream political discourse that it's unworthy of rebuke. But that's not the case. President Trump has promoted several QAnon accounts on Twitter. Celebrities who have promoted QAnon include Roseanne Barr, Curt Schilling and Stacey Dash. Elected officials who have promoted QAnon include a city council member and a state lawmaker. Matthew Lusk, a congressional candidate for Florida's 5th district, is the first QAnon follower to run for federal office.

Maxwell's brother says US prosecutors seeking to 'break' her
DANICA KIRKA - 26 November 2021
The brother of a British socialite charged with helping Jeffrey Epstein exploit underage girls says her prosecution is "the most over-hyped trial of the century," designed to break a woman targeted by authorities desperate to blame someone for the late financier's crimes.
Ghislaine Maxwell continues to have the backing of her family, and a family member will be in court at all times to show support, Ian Maxwell said in an interview ahead of the trial, which is set to begin Monday in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
This is "the most over-hyped trial of the century without a doubt," Ian Maxwell told the Associated Press. "This is designed to break her; I can't see any other way to read it. ... And she will not be broken because she believes completely in her innocence and she is going to give the best account she can."
Prosecutors allege Ghislaine Maxwell, 59, groomed girls as young as 14 to have sex with Epstein and lied about her knowledge of his crimes when she testified in an earlier case. She has been in custody for almost 17 months, after Judge Alison J. Nathan repeatedly denied requests for bail.
Prosecutors held a press conference when they announced the charges against Maxwell, saying she lured young girls into a trap that she and Epstein had set for them.
"Ms. Maxwell chose to blatantly disregard the law and her responsibility as an adult, using whatever means she had at her disposal to lure vulnerable youth into behavior they should never have been exposed to, creating the potential for lasting harm," FBI Assistant Director William Sweeney said at the time.
But Ian Maxwell says his sister is being blamed by U.S. authorities who are intent on holding someone responsible for Epstein's crimes.
Epstein killed himself in jail in 2019 before he could face trial.
"This is not quite a put-up job, but nonetheless has been cobbled together so that Ghislaine is made to face the charges that Epstein never faced," Ian Maxwell said.
Ghislaine Maxwell is the youngest of the late media mogul Robert Maxwell's nine children. The tycoon was once one of the richest men in Britain, but that wealth evaporated after he drowned in 1991 and investors discovered he had siphoned hundreds of millions of pounds from employee pension funds to prop up his empire.
The children supported each other after Robert Maxwell died and Ian and his brother were charged with financial crimes related to their father's actions. Both were acquitted.
Now they are rallying around Ghislaine, who dated Epstein and was his frequent companion on trips around the world.
The family continues to demand that Maxwell be released on bail, arguing that the conditions of her detention are tantamount to torture and prevent her from assisting her defense attorneys. The six remaining siblings this week asked the United Nations to investigate Ghislaine Maxwell's "inhumane" treatment.
Ian Maxwell says his sister is in "effective isolation" at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where she is being held in a 6- by 9-foot (1.8- by 2.7-meter) cell that has no natural light and is equipped with a toilet and a concrete bed. She is unable to sleep because she is watched around the clock by four guards and 10 cameras due to unwarranted concerns that she is a suicide risk, he said.
Earlier this month, a judge again refused to let Epstein's former girlfriend trade her jail cell for home detention, citing the serious nature of the charges and her risk of flight.
"The denial of bail is wholly inappropriate," Ian Maxwell said.
Americans who are interested in justice should be worried, because anyone could be accused of a crime and be held under the same conditions, he said.
"The authorities are feeling under pressure ... because they lost (Epstein) and they're feeling under the public's pressure, and that combination of pressure is keeping Ghislaine inside," her brother said. "But it still doesn't make it right."
