Capitol Police whistleblower delivers scathing rebuke to 2 of its senior leaders Jan. 6
1/3
The whistleblower alleges, among multiple serious allegations, that former acting chief Yogananda Pittman lied to Congress about an intelligence report Capitol Police received before that day's riot.
The whistleblower accuses Sean Gallagher, the Capitol Police's acting chief of uniformed operations, and Yogananda Pittman, its assistant chief of police for protective and intelligence operations, of deliberately choosing not to help officers under attack on Jan. 6. | Julio Cortez/AP Photo, file

A former high-ranking Capitol Police official with knowledge of the department's response to the Jan. 6 attack has sent congressional leaders a scathing letter accusing two of its senior leaders of mishandling intelligence and failing to respond properly during the riot.
The whistleblower, who requested anonymity for privacy reasons and left the force months after the attack, sent the 16-page letter late last month to the top members of both parties in the House and Senate. His missive makes scorching allegations against Sean Gallagher, the Capitol Police's acting chief of uniformed operations, and Yogananda Pittman, its assistant chief of police for protective and intelligence operations - who also served as its former acting chief.
The whistleblower accuses Gallagher and Pittman of deliberately choosing not to help officers under attack on Jan. 6 and alleges that Pittman lied to Congress about an intelligence report Capitol Police received before that day's riot. After a lengthy career in the department, the whistleblower was a senior official on duty on Jan. 6.
The whistleblower's criticism went beyond Capitol Police leaders to Congress. Without naming specific lawmakers, his letter accuses congressional leaders of having "purposefully failed" to tell the truth about the department's failures.
POLITICO obtained the letter detailing the allegations, which is circulating among Capitol Police officers, and is publishing portions of it here. To protect the whistleblower's identity, POLITICO is not publishing the letter in full.
"The truth may be valued less than politics by many members of the congressional community to include those that have made decisions about the leadership of the USCP post January 6th, but I believe the truth still matters to real people and certainly the men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police," the whistleblower wrote.
A spokesperson for the Capitol Police sent a statement in response to the letter that begins: "A lot has changed since January 6. Although there is more work to do, many of the problems described in the letter have been addressed."
The spokesperson added that the department "has implemented, and continues to implement, many of the critical recommendations called for in" a Senate inquiry into Jan. 6, a separate review conducted by retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honor?, and multiple probes by its own inspector general.
"The letter from the former employee echoes the thoughtful recommendations in those reports," the Capitol Police spokesperson continued. "USCP leaders, under new Chief Tom Manger, are committed to learning from prior mistakes and protecting our brave officers, who fought valiantly on January 6, so we can continue to carry out the Department's critical mission. The men and women of this Department are committed to that critical mission. Our goal is to work as a team, to move forward, and advance the work that keeps the U.S. Capitol and the people who work here safe."
The letter was sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. The House Administration Committee's Republican staff was also sent a copy....

WATCH: "Were You Drinking or On Drugs When You Pulled a Fire Alarm?" - TGP Reporter Confronts High School Principal Jamaal Bowman on His Bogus Fire Alarm Story
Nov. 14, 2023 11:20 am
The Gateway Pundit reported on Bowman's successful efforts to obstruct an official government proceeding in late September "as he was rushing to make an urgent vote," according to a spokesperson. Bowman was caught pulling the fire alarm in the Cannon Building to shut down Congress and prevent a critical vote to keep the government open.
While he claims this was just an accident, and he just got confused, it indeed looks like he was trying to delay a vote for the continuing resolution that was on the House Floor so he could vote to postpone the budget deadline. What high school principal doesn't know how a fire alarm works? Not a very safe one.
Capitol Police evacuated the building as a result of his apparent incompetence, and Bowman was only convicted of a misdemeanor for obstructing a Congressional proceeding. He was ordered to pay just $1,000 in fines, serve three months probation before charges are dismissed, and write a letter of apology to Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger. Meanwhile, January 6 defendants are still rotting in the gulags for walking into the Capitol, escorted by police.
Whatever he claims is the reason, The Gateway Pundit reported on new footage that shows the moments before Bowman pulls a fire alarm "by mistake." He is seen removing the two "Emergency Exit Only" signs on each door and then pulling the alarm before retreating the way he came. Previously, Bowman said he checked the usually unlocked door before pulling the alarm, but the video shows otherwise.
Additionally, in the video, he can be seen slothing toward the door, not like he's in a hurry, as he claims, but almost as if he's been using drugs or alcohol, as it would appear to some. He then slaps his hands on the signs, takes them, and hits the fire alarm. What person in their right, sober mind would do this?
When first asked to confirm that he "wasn't on something" when he pulled the fire alarm to delay Congress, Bowman responded, "We're not talking about that, man."
"No, man," Bowman laughed when asked again, "Were you drinking or on drugs when you pulled a fire alarm?"
He no longer wants to talk about his crime two months later. How does he think innocent J6 prisoners feel three years later, sitting in the gulag and constantly being reminded by the left that they're "domestic terrorists" for walking into the Capitol - led by police?

Tucker Carlson, who 'passionately hates' Trump, shows more Capitol footage
The Fox News hostTucker Carlson told an associate he "hated" Donald Trump "passionately", new filings in a $1.6bn defamation suit against Fox News by Dominion Voter Systems revealed.
Even as the filings were reported on Tuesday, Carlson continued to broadcast January 6 security footage in his attempt to cast the deadly attack on Congress as "peaceful chaos" arising from a protest of Trump's defeat by Joe Biden.
"We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights,"Carlson saidin a text on 4 January 2021, two days before the riot. "I truly can't wait."
He also wrote: "I hate him passionately ... What he's good at is destroying things. He's the undisputed world champion of that. He could easily destroy us if we play it wrong."
Many observers think the Dominion suit, over the broadcast of lies about electoral fraud by Trump and his allies, could prove seriously costly to Fox News.
Hosts and executives up to and including Rupert Murdoch have been shown to have said Trump was lying, and to have ridiculed surrogates including Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell but to have broadcast their claims regardless.
In one message newly revealed on Tuesday, the hostLaura Ingraham called Powell a "complete nut" and said "no one will work with her. Ditto with Rudy."
In a statement, Fox News said Dominion was "using further distortion and misinformation in its PR campaign to smear Fox News and trample on freedom of speech and freedom of the press".
Carlson is Fox News' premier primetime host. Last month, over protests from Democrats and Fox News' rivals, the House speaker, Kevin McCarthy, chose to give Carlson more than 40,000 hours of security footage from the Capitol on January 6.
After Carlson's first broadcast on Monday, Democrats, Senate Republicans, the chief of Capitol police and the family of an officer who died the day after the riot were among those to condemn him.
The police chief, Tom Manger, said in an internal memo Carlson's broadcast was "filled with offensive and misleading conclusions", "conveniently cherry-picked from the calmer moments of our 41,000 hours of video" and "fail[ed] to provide context about the chaos and violence ... before or during these less tense moments".

The footage he aired focused on one of the highest-profile rioters, Jacob Chansley, the "QAnon Shaman," garbed in his horned hat and bare chested, as he poked around the building, officers standing by or opening doors. Chansley pleaded guilty to a felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding and was sentenced to 41 months in prison.
Carlson denounced the Jan. 6 committee led by Democrats in the past Congress, and called out Trump's chief Republican critics Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger as liars on the panel.
Carlson is reviving the falsehoods launched by Trump and his allies, including Republicans in Congress, that the attackers were peaceful protesters and acted like tourists, despite the well-documented carnage of the day and the deaths of five people in the riot and its aftermath. It's part of an effort to reverse criminal charges for those being prosecuted in the attack, many of whom have pleaded guilty and said they regretted their actions on Jan. 6.
Capitol Police officers who were defending against the mob have testified to their harrowing experiences - one said she was slipping in other people's blood, while another told of being crushed in the mob - as they worked and ultimately failed to block the rioters from storming the Capitol.
The criminal cases stemming from the riot have laid bare the violence. Officers have testified in court about being chased, hit, dragged and scared for their lives as they tried to defend the Capitol. One tweeted images late Monday of his cuts, stitches and swollen bruises from that day.
Among those who died in the riot and its aftermath were Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt who was shot by police and Capitol Police officer Sicknick who died after fighting the mob.
Carlson aired footage of Sicknick inside the Capitol picking up posters and politely ushering protesters out the door, portraying that as evidence the officer was not killed in the crush.
That last was denounced by Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger as "the most disturbing accusation from last night."
"The Department maintains, as anyone with common sense would, that had Officer Sicknick not fought valiantly for hours on the day he was violently assaulted, Officer Sicknick would not have died the next day," Chief Manger said in a memo to his police force.
He said the program "cherry-picked" from calmer moments of the day, ignoring "the chaos and violence that happened before or during."
The Sicknick family said in a statement that the footage simply showed that Brian Sicknick bravely resumed his duties for a time after he had been attacked by a chemical agent.
Ken Sicknick, Brian Sicknick's brother, said in an interview that the family is "at a loss" about how to fight back against a network with millions of viewers and the speaker of the House who gave access to the footage.
Law enforcement failures on Jan. 6 have been investigated in Congress and acknowledged: Police failed to heed signs of a looming attack and were slow to provide an adequate response, including reinforcement from the National Guard.
More than half of the roughly 1,000 people charged with Capitol riot-related federal crimes have pleaded guilty, including more than 130 who pleaded guilty to felony crimes, according to an Associated Press tally.
Members of the extremist Proud Boys and Oath Keepers groups are facing rare charges of sedition for their roles at the front of the assault. Several members of the Oath Keepers have been found guilty of sedition. Hundreds of other rioters were charged only with misdemeanor offenses and many have served no prison time.
Republicans on Capitol Hill are mounting an effort to retell the history of Jan. 6 through the House Administration Committee, which has opened an online portal for submissions from the public.
Some GOP leaders, however, appeared uncomfortable with McCarthy's move and the way the footage was being used.
Senate Republican leader McConnell quickly distanced himself from the endeavor, saying he wanted to "associate myself entirely" with the police chief's views.
McConnell said, "Clearly the chief of the Capitol Police correctly describes what most of us witnessed firsthand on Jan. 6."

State of the Union 2023: Capitol fencing returns for Biden address
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/house/state-of-the-union-2023-capitol-fencing-returns-biden-address
U.S. Capitol Police are boosting security ahead of President Joe Biden's State of the Union address, including fencing around the Capitol grounds.
The fence was installed on Sunday and will be removed on Wednesday, following the address, according to House Sergeant at Arms William McFarland.
Intelligence officials circulated an email Friday maintaining the threat level remains elevated for the annual address, according to CNN. The bulletin maintains there is no specific credible threat but that "recent incidents targeting politicians and law enforcement agencies within the past month indicate that there is a heightened threat toward government officials." The push for more security comes after House Democrats raised concerns about the safety of Biden and State of the Union guests in the House chamber following House Republicans' decision to remove metal detectors from outside the House chamber shortly after taking control of the majority. The detectors had been added in the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots.
"The GOP House Majority's new rules have made the safety and security of the House Chamber, the very seat of American Democracy, at risk to infiltration and violence with reckless changes to necessary preventative measures," more than a dozen Democrats, led?by Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA), wrote to House and Senate leadership in a letter. The State of the Union address is considered a "National Special Security Event," meaning the Secret Service is in charge of the planning and can utilize additional resources to ramp up security. The increased security comes as threats against lawmakers are up 400% in the last six years, according to testimony from Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger during a Senate hearing in mid-December. He said there had been 9,000 threats against lawmakers in the last year, compared to the roughly 1,000 threats against members of Congress in 2017. In an assessment by the department, Capitol Police found the number of threats against lawmakers is similar for both Republicans and Democrats. In 2021, Capitol Police opened field offices to deal with threats against members in Florida and California.

US Capitol Police hype up threat of 'unthinkable'
The law enforcement agency said more than 100 security improvements at the US Capitol may not be enough to prevent future unrest
US Capitol Police has warned of future "attacks," similar to the riot that erupted in the halls of Congress following the 2020 presidential election, adding that despite all precautionary measures new unrest is possible given the "polarized state of our nation."
In a statement issued on Monday to mark the second anniversary of the January 6 riot, Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said his department had been "working around the clock" to implement scores of security improvements to the complex.
"Make no mistake, there is still work to be done. The current threat climate, particularly against elected officials, will require continued and heightened vigilance," he said, adding: "With the polarized state of our nation, an attack like the one our Department endured onJanuary 6, 2021, could be attempted again. Should the unthinkable happen, we will be ready."(Bullshit!)
In addition to hiring additional staff, creating better planning for "demonstrations and significant events" around the Capitol, and coordinating with "dozens" of policing agencies in the region, Manger said the department had brought on a new intelligence director and "dramatically improved the manner in which we collect, analyze, and share intelligence with our partner law enforcement agencies."
The Capitol Police have also introduced "specialized training" for officers - presumably to deal with protests and civil unrest - and"made significant equipment upgrades," the chief said, though did not specify the new gear acquired by the department.
The January 6 riot kicked off in the days after the 2020 presidential race, spearheaded by supporters of then-President Donald Trump, who repeatedly claimed the election was marred by widespread fraud in favor of Democratic nominee Joe Biden. While the demonstrators successfully pushed their way into the Capitol - in some cases allegedly with the help of local police - they accomplished little beyond vandalism to the building. A number of rioters lost their lives amid the chaos, including one woman fatally shot by police and multiple others who suffered medical episodes, while nearly 1,000individuals later faced a harsh crackdown from local and federal law enforcement agencies.
Though many of the protesters were able to leave the Capitol following the riot, the FBI repeatedly called on the public to help identify those who participated in the months afterward, ultimately filing hundreds of charges, many of them felonies. Some corporate media outlets even joined in the hunt, with USA Today working to identify rioters to the public.
The incident triggered a second Democrat-led impeachment proceeding against Trump, with critics insisting he "incited" his supporters to storm the Capitol and stop lawmakers from certifying the election results. While the impeachment effort failed, Democrats and a handful of dissident Republicans have continued to press for charges against Trump, with a committee established to investigate the Capitol riot recommending a criminal case in its final report last month. Short of an indictment, however, some lawmakers have also called to bar Trump from returning to the White House, after he announced a 2024 presidential bid in November.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Leadership and law enforcement failures within the U.S. Capitol left the complex
vulnerable on January 6, 2021. The Democrat-led investigation in the House of
Representatives, however, has disregarded those institutional failings that exposed
the Capitol to violence that day.
The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs and the Senate
Committee on Rules and Administration conducted a bipartisan investigation in the
months after the attack. On June 8, 2021, the committees released their findings in a
joint staff report (hereinafter, Senate Report). This report supplements the Senate
Report and provides findings from the perspective of the House of Representatives
regarding those areas of inquiry that the Democrat-led investigation has thus far
ignored, specifically answering the important question of why the Capitol was left so
unprepared. This report is based on documents and communications obtained from
key witnesses, and interviews with U.S. Capitol Police leaders and rank-and-file
officers.
Many of the witnesses who spoke to investigators are U.S. Capitol Police (USCP)
sources. Some of the sources are current USCP officers and others are former
officers. Several of the sources who sat for interviews are USCP intelligence analysts
within the Intelligence and Interagency Coordination Division. Additionally,
investigators interviewed the Chief of the U.S. Capitol Police Tom Manger, the House
Sergeant at Arms William Walker, and the Assistant Director of the Intelligence and
Interagency Coordination Division Julie Farnam.
This report goes to great lengths to protect the identities of the line officers and
analysts who participated in interviews. Sources who cooperated with this
investigation described retaliation by USCP leadership for their participation in this
investigation and other investigations into the events of January 6, 2021. Additionally,
the Staff Director for the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th
Attack on the United States Capitol, David Buckley, has a track record of acting in a
retaliatory manner against whistleblowers. For those reasons, this report uses "USCP
source" to cite or otherwise refer to conversations with USCP employees who are not
in leadership positions. 2

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
There are several reasons the Capitol was left unprepared on January 6, 2021,
including internal politics and unnecessary bureaucracy. Prior to that day, the U.S.
Capitol Police (USCP) had obtained sufficient information from an array of channels
to anticipate and prepare for the violence that occurred. However, officers on the
front lines and analysts in USCP's intelligence division were undermined by the
misplaced priorities of their leadership. Those problems were exacerbated by the
House Sergeant at Arms, who was distracted from giving full attention to the threat
environment prior to January 6, 2021 by several other upcoming events.
Specifically, the leader of the USCP Intelligence and Interagency Coordination
Division failed to warn USCP leadership and line officers about the threat of violence,
despite the fact that IICD analysts gathered intelligence that clearly indicated a need
for a hardened security posture. In fact, IICD's leader-Julie Farnam-spent the weeks
leading up to January 6, 2021 attempting to overhaul the division, including by
reassigning expert intelligence analysts to new roles and creating new processes for
synthesizing threat data. Information about planned protests and threats of violence
were siloed and not properly analyzed and disseminated during this key period
because of Farnam's misplaced priorities. One IICD analyst testified to investigators:
"That unit was disbanded by her almost on day one. We, at the time of January 6, we
were not doing proactive searches of social media like we had been before. We were
strictly reactive and responding to requests for information." This is also substantiated
by USCP's own internal after-action report that was drafted in June of 2021.
Similarly, then-House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving-who served on the Capitol Police
Board by virtue of his position-succumbed to political pressures from the Office of
Speaker Pelosi and House Democrat leadership leading up to January 6, 2021. He
coordinated closely with the Speaker and her staff and left Republicans out of
important discussions related to security. As a critical member of the Capitol Police
Board, the House Sergeant at Arms had an obligation to all Members, staff, and USCP
officers to keep them safe by consulting stakeholders without partisan preference

UPDATED 8:29 AM PT - Monday, February 28, 2022
The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives lifted its mask mandate ahead of Joe Biden's State of the Union address. The Office of the Attending Physician said lawmakers and their staff will no longer have to wear face masks due to a "low level" of COVID transmission. However, those who test positive for COVID or have sympToms are still advised to wear masks.
And just like that: Nancy Pelosi cancels her pointless mask mandate in Congress so Biden can do the same in his speech on Tuesday.
Nobody is buying this.
- Rep. Darrell Issa (@repdarrellissa) February 28, 2022
Republicans have denounced mask mandates as "political theatre," adding Democrats are ditching masks to make Biden's address look good. This comes as the Capitol Physician's Office also promoted coronavirus vaccines, boosters and taking daily COVID tests at home.
So, Pelosi lifted the mask mandate in Congress one day before the President's SOTU. Ain't (political) science wonderful?
- Jim Wheeler (@Wheeler4Nevada) February 28, 2022
Meanwhile, Capitol Police reinstalled the inner-perimeter fencing around the Capitol Building ahead of Biden's State of the Union address. Chief Tom Manger shared a statement Sunday, saying the increased security measures were made in collaboration with the Secret Service.

Chief Manger also said the move is out of an abundance of caution ahead of The People's Convoy, which is expected to descend on Washington, D.C. several days after Biden's address. Other security measures include establishing National Guard checkpoints around the city. Capitol Police assert the heightened security is to ensure the important work of Congress is allowed to go on uninterrupted.

Capitol Police chief pushes back against claims by GOP lawmaker that his office was illegally investigated
Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger pushed back against allegations made by Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) that his office last November was illegally probed by Capitol Police.
On Tuesday, Nehls alleged that Capitol Police had investigated his office late last year.
"The @CapitolPolice Intelligence Division investigated my office illegally and one of my staffers caught them in the act," Nehls wrote on Twitter.
"On November 20th, 2021, Capitol Police entered my office without my knowledge and photographed confidential legislative products protected by the Speech and Debate clause enshrined in the Constitution, Article 1 Section 6," the Texas Republican continued.
Nehls alleged that three intelligence officers tried to get into his office two days later, before subsequently adding, "Upon discovering a member of my staff, special agents dressed like construction workers began to question him as to the contents of a photograph taken illegally two days earlier."
"The United States Capitol Police is sworn to protect Members of Congress. If a Member's office is left open and unsecured, without anyone inside the office, USCP officers are directed to document that and secure the office to ensure nobody can wander in and steal or do anything else nefarious," Manger said in a statement.
"The weekend before Thanksgiving, one of our vigilant officers spotted the Congressman's door was wide open. That Monday, USCP personnel personally followed up with the Congressman's staff and determined no investigation or further action of any kind was needed," Manger continued. Inspector General Investigating Capitol Police for Improper Surveillance of Lawmakers, Staff and Visitors
On Tuesday, Congressman Troy Nehls (R-Texas) posted an alarming thread on Twitter.
BREAKING The @CapitolPolice Intelligence Division investigated my office illegally and one of my staffers caught them in the act.
On November 20th, 2021, Capitol Police entered my office without my knowledge and photographed confidential legislative products protected by the Speech and Debate clause enshrined in the Constitution, Article 1 Section 6.
Two days later on Monday November 22, 2021 (Thanksgiving week), three intelligence officers attempted to enter my office while the House was in recess.
Upon discovering a member of my staff, special agents dressed like construction workers began to question him as to the contents of a photograph taken illegally two days earlier.
@CapitolPolice never informed myself or senior level staff of their investigation and the reasons are clear.
They had no authority to photograph my office, let alone investigate myself or members of my staff. So, why is the Capitol Police Leadership maliciously investigating me in an attempt to destroy me and my character?
Maybe it is because I have been a vocal critic of @SpeakerPelosi, the @January6thCmte, and @CapitolPolice leadership about their handling of January 6th, the death of Ashli Babbitt and the subsequent SHAM investigation.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger told the agency's side of the story by claiming that a "vigilant officer" performing normal weekend rounds noticed that Nehls's office door had been left wide open. "If a Member's office is left open and unsecured, without anyone inside the office, USCP officers are directed to document that and secure the office to ensure nobody can wander in and steal or do anything else nefarious," he explained.
Once inside the office, the officer noticed a whiteboard that contained "suspicious writings mentioning body armor," which he photographed and passed along to USCP analysts. Manger said that the following Monday, "USCP personnel personally followed up with the Congressman's staff and determined no investigation or further action of any kind was needed."

Six weeks after a grand jury indicted former US Capitol Police Officer Michael Riley on obstruction of justice charges, the Capitol Police Board thanked him for his 26-year service in a glowing farewell letter it now says was sent in error.
"Please accept our congratulations on your retirement from the United States Capitol Police," the Senate and House sergeants-at-arms, the architect of the Capitol and Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger wrote December 2, 2021.
"Your attention to duty, professionalism, and dedication are above reproach, and each serve as a tribute to your character. Your hard work will leave a lasting impression on the department for many years to come."
But on Thursday, after Riley pointed to the letter in a court filing, the US Capitol Police said it had been sent "in error." The department added it had "particular language, and pre-printed signatures," and that the agency was looking to make sure only officers who left the force in good standing would get them, according to a statement provided to CNN.

Now, months later, Pittman has been put back in charge as assistant chief of the agency's intelligence operations and will be supervising officers who protect top congressional leaders.
Police officials in Washington are increasingly concerned about a rally planned for Sept. 18 on federal land next to the Capitol that organizers have said is meant to demand "justice" for the hundreds of people already charged in connection with January's insurrection.
Kek, she must have been very dissapointed!
Organizers of the event, known as "Justice for J6," have said it will be peaceful but law enforcement officials fear such a gathering with thousands of people could devolve quickly into violence.
That Pittman remains in a position overseeing intelligence is notable given the internal leadership upheaval that followed the riot On the other hand, removing her from the job could also represent a concession by the department that there was an intelligence failure on its part.
Capitol Police officials say Pittman was "given the additional responsibility" of being the acting police chief on a temporary basis and never left her old job, though an organization chart obtained by
The Associated Press shows that the position of assistant chief overseeing intelligence was held by a different official, Sean Gallagher. He is now temporarily in charge of the department's uniformed officers.

Capitol Police Ask National Guard to Provide Support Ahead of Sept. 18 'Justice for J6' Rally
By Katabella Roberts September 16, 2021 Updated: September 16, 2021 biggersmaller Print
The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) have asked the Department of Defense (DOD) to provide support from the National Guard ahead of a demonstration planned for Sept. 18, USCP said on Wednesday.
Officials did not provide details on the potential number of National Guard troops that could be deployed, however Pentagon press secretary John Kirby told reporters Wednesday that "it is not an exorbitant ask," adding that "it's not of a particularly large size or major capability. I think it's more in the form of some manpower support."
"We have received a request from Capitol Police for some assistance for this weekend's protests, scheduled protests. I'm not going to detail the specific request," Kirby said. "We're doing the analysis, we are in receipt of it, we're analyzing it, and if it can be validated and supported, we'll do that and we'll look at the sourcing inside the department as to what's most appropriate."
It comes as organizers expect hundreds of people to attend the "Justice for J6" event on Saturday, which is expected to take place in Union Square between 1st and 3rd streets at 12 p.m., according to the group's website.
The rally is being organized by Look Ahead America, a nonprofit group that is seeking to release hundreds of people who were charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol incident. It could prove to be the largest gathering since then.
Over 600 people have been charged with a range of crimes, from misdemeanors to serious felony charges including assault, obstruction of an official proceeding, or conspiracy, for their alleged actions in early January at the U.S. Capitol, when protesters and rioters breached the building, interrupting a joint session of Congress.

Many of those charged remain in jail pending trial, including those who aren't accused of carrying out acts of violence.
Five people eventually died while several police officers later took their own lives.
Look Ahead America, which says it advocates for disaffected Americans who are ignored by both political parties and the government, noted Saturday's protests would be peaceful.
The group's Executive Director Matt Braynard said the purpose of the protests is "for patriotic Americans to educate their state legislators on the power they have to give instructions to their state's federal legislators."
"We have composed a draft resolution a state legislature can pass to inform US Senators and Representative [sic] to oppose the tyrannical and inhumane treatment of the January 6 political prisoners who have been targeted by the Department of Justice and the FBI," Braynard, a former Trump campaign operative, said in a statement on the group's website.
Earlier this week, Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger announced that protective fencing will be put back up ahead of the rally.
"The fence will go up a day or two before, and if everything goes well, it will come down very soon after," he said on Sept. 13. Workers began installing the fence late on Wednesday.
Manger told The Epoch Times in an email that his agency is "closely monitoring" the planned event but that he's confident, given the changes in intelligence-gathering and sharing made after Jan. 6, that "the work we are doing now will make sure our officers have what they need to keep everyone safe."
However, some suspect that the upcoming rally has a "very high probability of becoming a false flag event."
"Do yourself a favor and stay away from DC on September 18," Ron Watkins, former administrator of the imageboard website 8kun, stated in a recent post on Telegram.
Watkins, who is a strong advocate for election integrity and previously encouraged people to gather in D.C. on Jan. 6 to peacefully protest, said in a separate post, "Everyone who attends the event should be fully aware of the potential risks of their participation at this time."

https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2021/09/13/capitol-police-armed-man-dnc/7521631549350/?
Sept. 13 (UPI) – Authorities arrested an armed 44-year-old California man on Monday near the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., U.S. Capitol police said.
Officials said Donald Craighead of Oceanside, Calif., had several knives, a bayonet and a machete inside his truck. Police said Craighead told them he was "on patrol" at the time.
Authorities said the man's truck had a swastika and other white supremacist symbols painted on it and was parked outside of DNC headquarters. Instead of a license plate, there was an image of an American flag on the vehicle.
Bayonets and machetes are illegal in Washington, D.C., and police said he was charged with possessing prohibited weapons.
"This is good police work plain and simple," Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said in a statement. "We applaud the officers' keen observation and the teamwork that resulted in this arrest."
"This is an excellent example of the work our officers do every day," Operational Services Bureau Deputy Chief Jason Bell said in a statement. "We are so proud of these officers for their vigilance."
The man's arrest comes ahead of a conservative rally in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 18 that intends to support those prosecuted for the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol. Counter protests are also planned.

THERE IS A NEW CHIEF IN D.C.
Capitol Police Board Announces Selection of USCP Chief of Police
July 22, 2021
Press Release
J. Thomas Manger to Assume Command July 23, 2021
Following a nationwide recruitment by a leading executive search firm, the Capitol Police Board announces the appointment of J. Thomas Manger as Chief of the United States Capitol Police. The Board is confident in Chief Manger's experience and approach in protecting the Congress - its Members, employees, visitors and facilities.
Tom Manger has served 42 years in the policing profession, including more than two decades as chief of police for two of the largest police agencies in the National Capital Region. Most recently, he was chief of police in Montgomery County, Maryland from 2004 to 2019. He also served as police chief in Fairfax County, Virginia from 1998 to 2004. His leadership in regional law enforcement initiatives is extensive.
After graduating from the University of Maryland, Manger began his law enforcement career in 1977 as a Fairfax County police officer. He rose through the ranks to become chief of police, receiving numerous awards in Fairfax County, including the Silver Medal of Valor in 1993.
During his career as police chief in Montgomery County, Manger received several national awards, including the 2007 Law Enforcement Award from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the 2016 Gorowitz Institute Service Award from the Anti-Defamation League, and the 2018 FBI National Executive Institute Associates Penrith Award. Manger was also inducted into the Montgomery County Human Rights Hall of Fame in 2012.
In 2018, "Washingtonian" magazine recognized Manger as one of the Washingtonians of the Year. He also serves on the Cardinal's Child Safety Advisory Board for the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.
Elected by his peers to several national leadership positions, Manger served from 2014 to 2018 as President of the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA), and from 2013 to 2017 as Vice President of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
Manger says, "I am humbled and honored to join the men and women of the US Capitol Police Department in their mission to protect the Congress, the Capitol and the federal legislative process. The challenges in protecting the Capitol campus, and everyone who works or visits there, have never been more complex. The courage and dedication of the men and women of this agency were on great display on Jan. 6th. It is now my job to ensure that they have the resources and support to continue to fulfill their mission in an ever increasingly difficult job."
The Congress is fortunate to have a seasoned decision-maker who will lead with integrity, draw on his regional experience in strengthening partnerships with law enforcement partners, and make intelligence-based security decisions. Chief Manger's commitment to listening, fairness and transparency will be key in rebuilding trust amongst USCP sworn officers and civilian employees.
Manger will assume command July 23, 2021.
The Board thanks Acting Chief of Police Yogananda Pittman for her dedication and focused effort over the last six months to enhance security around the Capitol Complex and begin the hard work of implementing lessons learned from January 6.

Maryland investigators looking into new sex assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh
Investigators in Montgomery County, Md., have acknowledged they have received a possible new sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Investigators told the Montgomery County Sentinel an anonymous witness came forward over the weekend, and they're looking into allegations against the judge during his final year at Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda. It's unclear if the new allegation is related to any of the other accusations leveled against Kavanaugh.
Christine Blasey Ford has accused him of sexually assaulting her at a party when he was a senior at Georgetown Prep. Deborah Ramirez claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party during his freshman year at Yale University. Attorney Michael Avenatti, who came to prominence representing adult film actress Stormy Daniels in a defamation suit against President Trump, said Sunday he is representing a woman with "credible information" pertaining to Kavanaugh and his Georgetown Prep classmate Mark Judge.
Kavanaugh has vehemently denied the allegations. "This alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen. The people who knew me then know that this did not happen, and have said so. This is a smear, plain and simple," he said in a statement in response to Ramirez's allegations on Sunday. "I look forward to testifying on Thursday about the truth, and defending my good name - and the reputation for character and integrity I have spent a lifetime building - against these last-minute allegations." Trump and Senate Republicans have thus far refused to direct the FBI to investigate the accusations, saying Kavanaugh has already gone through multiple background checks throughout his career as a judge.
Montgomery County's Prosecuting Attorney John McCarthy said over the weekend he would direct the Montgomery County Police Department to investigate any complaint against Kavanaugh, "but no complaint has been filed or forwarded to his office," he told the the news outlet. "We are prepared to investigate if the victim wants to report to us, and we can determine it occurred in the county," Police Chief Tom Manger said.

U.S. Capitol Police brace for potential repeat of pro-Trump rally violence
Jan Wolfe
Wed, September 8, 2021, 1:53 PM CDT
By Jan Wolfe
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Capitol Police is increasing security in preparation for potential violence at a Sept. 18 rally in which followers of former President Donald Trump intend to show support for people arrested after the deadly January attack on the Capitol, according to a statement and an internal memo on Wednesday.
Department Chief Tom Manger will provide a security briefing to top lawmakers on Monday about the rally, a source familiar with the meeting said. The source said U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has invited U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy to the briefing.
"We have a robust security posture planned for September 18th," the U.S. Capitol Police statement said. "All available staff will be working."
Citing an internal Capitol Police memo, CNN reported on Wednesday that law enforcement officials are bracing for potential clashes and unrest during the rally after seeing a noticeable uptick in violent rhetoric around the event on social media and discussion boards.
Capitol Police did not respond to request for comment on the CNN report.
The "Justice for J6" rally, planned for the area around the U.S. Capitol, is intended to protest the treatment of the more than 600 people arrested for participating in the Jan. 6 siege of the building. Mobs of supporters of then-President Trump stormed the building while Congress was meeting to certify Joe Biden's November election win.

Worse than having 99% of Congress, the President and VP killed by a bomb or something, leaving the U.S. with no functioning government.
