Oxford University may enlist 'SENSITIVITY READERS' to censor student publications to protect readers from being offended - media
The Oxford University Student Union is reportedly looking to ideologically sanitize the school's media outlets, including the century-old Cherwell newspaper, by employing "sensitivity readers" to censor problematic content.
Oxford's governing student council overwhelmingly passed a motion last month to allow the student union (SU) to set up a "student consultancy of sensitivity readers," who would be elected and paid to screen articles by Cherwell and other outlets, the Telegraph reported on Sunday. Readers would block the publication or broadcast of "problematic" content, such as articles they deem to be "implicitly racist or sexist."

SU leaders have claimed Cherwell needs "better editing" because of its "high incidences of insensitive material." The union reportedly received complaints from offended students alleging that the newspaper had published bigoted articles and "generally inaccurate and insensitive" opinions.
Other Oxford media outlets, including The Oxford Blue, may also be subject to the new wokeness vetting. Both Cherwell and The Oxford Blue told the Telegraph they hadn't been notified by the SU about the new vetting.
Former Cherwell editor Michael Crick, now a Daily Mail journalist, called the move "horrific" and told the Telegraph it was like an authoritarian government demanding to screen and change press reports before they were published. "The answer to all of these things is pluralism," he said. "If you're going to have a boring, dull, vetted newspaper, then nobody's going to read it."
Oxford has been number one for five straight years in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The university is so influential that 28 of the 55 prime ministers in UK history were Oxford alumni, leading some to worry that the increasingly authoritarian bent of its student leadership may portend a shift away from individual liberty in the country's politics.
"Just wait until these kids grow up and rule the world," one Twitter user said. Author Larry Sanger suggested that, if sensitivity readers are employed at Oxford, Britons should "expect the same at real newspapers soon."

Political consultant Suzanne Evans asked, "What about the problematic Marxist articles? That might give the so-called sensitivity readers something to actually do, since I very much doubt the overwhelming majority of Oxford students are either racist or sexist."

Earlier this month, students at Oxford's Magdalen College voted to remove a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II from their common room because they perceived it to symbolize colonialism. Just last month, Oxford's Oriel College board rejected demands by student campaigners to remove a statue of imperialist mining magnate Cecil Rhodes, but it agreed to employ an "equality, diversity, and inclusion" tutor and require staff to take more race-awareness training.
SU issued a statement rebuking Oriel's governing body for declining to cancel the statue. "Cecil Rhodes is a symbol of colonialism, white supremacy, and racism, all of which have no place in Oriel College nor any other part of this university," the union said. The group added that "dismantling systemic racism" was one of Oxford's greatest challenges and that "Oriel College must do better, and Rhodes must fall."

Treasury economist resigns in protest at 'police state'
A Victorian government official has taken aim at Daniel Andrews and health chief Brett Sutton in a scathing resignation letter.
A former economist at the Victorian Treasury Department has quit his job in protest at Daniel Andrews' "police state", penning a devastating op-ed slamming the government's coronavirus response.
Sanjeev Sabhlok, who moved to Melbourne from India in 2001, resigned last week after being asked to remove a number of inflammatory social media posts criticising the state government.
Mr Sabhlok runs a blog and has a Twitter account with more than 3000 followers where he has railed against COVID-19 lockdowns, and in some cases called for politicians responsible to be jailed.
"These monsters need to be tried for crimes against humanity and shot," Mr Sabhlok said in one post earlier this month, responding to a tweet by UK conservative commentator Suzanne Evans criticising a Labour MP.
Mr Sabhlok announced his resignation on social media last week in a message to Mr Andrews. "I did not come to Australia to be a slave of whimsical government," he said.
"You have not implemented risk-based management, no evidence-based policy, no cost-benefit analysis. No justification. Just whimsy. You must reset Victoria's policies right now. But if you won't, then go!"
In an opinion piece for The Australian Financial Review on Wednesday, the public service veteran said he had been approached by the head of human relations at Treasury and asked to remove his posts critical of the government.
"I considered deleting the few direct criticisms, but they wanted all indirect criticism removed too," he wrote. "I resigned on the same day, the only honourable course for a free citizen of Australia."
In the piece, Mr Sabhlok describes the pandemic policies being pursued in Australia and particularly in Victoria as "the most heavy-handed possible, a sledgehammer to kill a swarm of flies".
"These policies are having hugely adverse economic, social and health effects, with the poorer sections of the community that don't have the ability to work from home suffering the most," he said.
"Australia is signalling to the world that it is closed for business and doesn't care for human freedoms. This will dampen business investment but also impact future skilled migration, the education industry and tourism."

London Mayor slammed for labelling patriots 'far-right'
In light of todays protests by patriots and the Democratic Football Lads Alliance to protect statues from being torn down in London by far-left groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been heavily criticised for labelling them far-right.
In the statement that Mayor released, in which he urged BLM protestors to 'stay at home' over fears of spreading the coronavirus, he criticised the 'extreme far-right groups who advocate hatred and division' and believed that they would 'provoke violence', leading to the 'risk of disorder' being 'high'. He also claimed that those 'far-right' protestors would 'hijack and distract from the fight for equality and justice' and wouldn't succeed.
Many heavily criticised Khan for his stance. Writer Matt Ridley called his comments 'truly extraordinary' and felt he was being dishonest for not criticising the far-left for the same behaviour, all the while former UKIP leader Gerard Batten called the MSM 'the enemy of the people' and slammed Khan for 'branding decent ordinary people' far-right. Former Brexit Party MEPs also criticised Khan, with Martin Daubney called Khan's words 'disgusting' for a 'Mayor who has divided London like never before' and Richard Tice urged Khan to 'please think again' after he labelled 'anyone who wants to commemorate & protect our most vital hero' as 'extreme far right'.
Libertarian conservative commentator Darren Grimes felt such comments from Khan wouldn't 'wash' and that he was slandering 'a majority of the public' and former UKIP Deputy Chair Suzanne Evans criticised Khan for failing to show 'empathy and understanding for what decent Londoners of all colours feel about your failure to condemn violence'. Comedian Pat Condell called Khan a 'divisive little pipsqueak' and political YouTuber Styxhexenhammer666 highlighted the involvement of Antifa in the violence.
