Spaceship Spotted on Indiana Interstate Really Gets Around and Has a Fun History
April 8, 2024
On Monday, April 8th, I never once saw anyone driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse. I had planned to chew Eclipse Gum during the event but left it at home on the table. I did, however, play "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler; one out of three ain't bad.
But even if ALL of that had come to pass, I still wouldn't have held a candle to a certain Hoosier motorist who went all out for Total Solar Eclipse Day. I doubt anyone was cruising the Indiana roadways with a more appropriate vehicle than this:
Now THAT'S the ride you take for a spin when there's a total solar eclipse. But Monday, April 8th wasn't its only day to shine. A glance at the comment section will tell that tale; this "driving saucer" makes the rounds. And the following post proves this thing has stamina. Here it was cruising Indianapolis eight years ago:
So, what possesses someone to create a street-legal UFO or spaceship car? Well, in the case of Steve Anderson, it was simple inspiration. It was a toy that gave birth to the idea of converting a 1991 Geo Metro into a working space mobile. And that inspiration was hardly random. Andersonwho passed away in 2020was quite the collector. A toy that inspired a spaceship, as you will see, can't be surprising with this guy:
Like that toy, the former proprietor of A-OK Hardware in Indianapoliswho must have bequeathed his creation to a loved one, or else we wouldn't have seen it todayis ALSO an inspiration. Amongst all the unique items in his collection, he looked at a toy spaceship and thought, "You know what? I can make one of these things to drive."
He realized he could do something and then just did it. Inspiration caught, as far as I'm concerned.

Three medical professionals charged with distributing 'massive quantities' of controlled substances from 'pill mill'
Doctor also faces charge involving overdose death
WAYCROSS, GA: Three healthcare professionals have been charged in a 52-count federal indictment unsealed Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.
The indictment describes an alleged conspiracy to distribute "massive quantities" of controlled substances, including highly addictive opioids, in violation of federal law, said David H. Estes, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. The charges include one count of Distribution and Dispensation of Controlled Substances Resulting in Death by Dr. Wallace Steven Anderson, 67, of Douglas, Ga., a charge that carries a minimum statutory sentence of 20 years in prison, up to life. There is no parole in the federal system.
"Our efforts to eradicate the illegal distribution of dangerous and addictive drugs in our neighborhoods target both the shadowy street dealers and white-coated prescribers alike," said Acting U.S. Attorney Estes. "With our law enforcement partners, we will continue to bring to justice those who would spread poison in our communities."
Named in the indictment are:
Dr. Anderson, charged with Conspiracy; Distribution and Dispensation of Controlled Substances Resulting in Death; 48 counts of Unlawful Distribution and Dispensation of Controlled Substances; Conspiracy to Commit Healthcare Fraud; and Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments;
Bridgett Stephanie Taylor, 55, of Broxton, Ga., a Nurse Practitioner working under Anderson, charged with Conspiracy; eight counts of Unlawful Distribution and Dispensation of Controlled Substances; Conspiracy to Commit Healthcare Fraud; and Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments; and,
Wandle Keith Butler, 57, of Douglas, a Physician Assistant working under Anderson, charged with Conspiracy; three counts of Unlawful Distribution and Dispensation of Controlled Substances; Conspiracy to Commit Healthcare Fraud; and Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments.
As described in the Indictment, Anderson is the owner of Steve Anderson, PC, and Steve Anderson Behavioral Health, both located in Douglas, Ga. Taylor and Butler worked for Anderson. The indictment alleges that from February 1, 2016, to September 30, 2020, the three operated or assisted in operating "nominal pain management and addiction facilities which dispensed controlled substances without any legitimate medical purpose."

Mayor Cooper's Policing Policies Commission Says Crime Isn't Criminals' Fault - Need to Minimize the Police
Nashville, TN | October 27, 2020
During a meeting last week, Mayor John Cooper's Policing Policies Commission (PCC) Policies Group indicated aims to diminish police and stated that criminals aren't entirely at fault for their crimes.
Gideon's Army Founder and CEO Rasheedat Fetuga was the main guest speaker. Vice Chair Amanda Lucas brought on Fetuga to speak, calling her a "visionary."
Gideon's Army is an organization that seeks to "eliminate the root causes of the prison pipeline" for troubled youths. The organization assisted in recovery efforts after the tornado hit Nashville this spring. Gideon's Army was also involved in the Black Lives Matter Nashville rally-turned-riot following George Floyd's death.
During her speech, Fetuga asserted that police aren't qualified for some of the aspects of policing.
"Metro police officers are doing jobs that they're not qualified for. It is not on their job description. Metro police officers aren't mental health workers, you know, they're not really 'first responders,' like, in the way that we would think. The way that their job is, it can also really increase the risk for mental health issues. There are a lot of issues that arise with the way we do policing in America. Even with the police chief, we're still dealing with systematic oppression that's national."
Fetuga also argued that social determinants of health (SDOH) serve as the main cause for crime. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), SDOH are economics, education, healthcare, environment, and community.
"And then there's the issue of there being lack of social determinants of health in Nashville communities that are handled by criminalizing people who are unhealthy or people who are in unhealthy communities. So these are some of the issues we see, some of the issues we set out to deal with. Understanding that crime and violence are negative effects, you know, that deeply impact the determinants of health. It's a cycle."
Following those remarks, Fetuga made the conclusion that the current policing systems aren't effective in preventing crime.
"Bringing the police in on the back end doesn't really make sense because it doesn't help to create healthier communities."
As The Tennessee Star reported previously, Cooper established this committee mid-August to review use-of-force policies in Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD). According to the press release, PCC will "make Nashville a model of 21st century policing" to address alleged disproportionate treatment of Black individuals.
"The U.S. criminal justice system has oppressed Black Americans for more years than it has protected them," wrote Cooper. "It continues to punish African-Americans and people of color at disproportionate rates and in severe ways. Black men are more than twice as likely to be killed in an encounter with police as white men."
The mayor is also relying on PCC's work to select the next chief of police. The previous chief, Steve Anderson, retired in an expedited fashion at the beginning of August.
PCC concluded the meeting by remarking that they are "all on Team Gideon's Army."

'Free Capitol Hill' rally planned for Legislative Plaza on Friday night
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Legislative Plaza will play host to another protest on Friday night, though depending on the turnout, this demonstration could be very different than any Nashville has seen so far.
It's being described as more of a takeover than a protest. The group organizing is claiming they will be taking back Legislative Plaza for the people of Tennessee.
Organizations of the rally are calling for the following items:
>defunding the police
>demilitarize the police
>firing Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson, which some council members and the ACLU support
>removing the Nathan Bedford Forrest Bust from the State Capitol, which legislators voted not to remove from the building earlier this week.

DEA raids target large-scale drug trafficking ring across Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Federal agents dismantled a large-scale drug trafficking operation in Indianapolis on Thursday.
U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler announced federal criminal charges against 35 people for their alleged role in two separate drug trafficking rings.
Those charged include:
Danielle Dowling, 43, Indianapolis
Linda Bow, 56, Indianapolis
Josh Stoops, 41, Indianapolis
James Bacon, 51, Indianapolis
Micheal Fisher, 27, Indianapolis
Steve Anderson, 46, Indianapolis
James Swartz, 41, Indianapolis
Eric Poore, 42, Indianapolis
Janna Broaddus, 33, Indianapolis
Josh Unger, 36, Indianapolis
Ryan Sawyers, 37, Indianapolis
Troy Thornton, 47, Indianapolis
Darius Anthony Garcia, 33, Indianapolis
Amber Seats, 31, Indianapolis
Jeremy Osmon, 40, Indianapolis
Tyler Greenwalt , 35, Indianapolis
Guy Karnes, 28, Indianapolis
Clifford King, Jr., 27, Indianapolis
Lisa Roth, 25, Indianapolis (Fugitive)
Dylan Williams, 41, Indianapolis
Eric Walker, 30, Indianapolis
Jeffrey Sacks, 63, Indianapolis
Paula Adams, 33, Lafayette
Christopher Tate, 29, Indianapolis
Jovan Stewart, 31, Indianapolis
Robert Hinton, 33, Indianapolis (Fugitive)
Tia Dimmett, 29, Indianapolis
Lacey Guzman, 35, Indianapolis
Sandra Kellogg, 38, Silver Lake, Indiana
Desirae Evans, 40, Indianapolis
Jose Rodriguez-Chavez, 42, Indianapolis
Jason Lewis, 28, Indianapolis
Dwyatt Harris, 40, Indianapolis
Dorothy Knight, 43, Indianapolis (Fugitive)
Chaylon Rush, 52, Indianapolis (Fugitive)
Starting around 6 a.m., federal agents and local officers served arrest warrants and search warrants at 19 locations in the Indianapolis area, looking for alleged drug dealers after an investigation that authorities said was six months in the making. The U.S. Department of Justice said 31 individuals were arrested and are in custody but four remain as fugitives.
During the course of the investigation, authorities say approximately 30 firearms, $70,000 in U.S. currency and 22 pounds of methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl were seized.
According to the two indictments, Danielle Dowling and Christopher Tate led separate drug trafficking organizations that operated in Indianapolis and distributed large amounts of methamphetamine as well as heroin and fentanyl.
Assistant Special Agent in Charge Michael Gannon is assigned to the Indianapolis District Office for the DEA.
"For all the drug traffickers out there, we're going to do what we always do. We're going to put our resources together and hold them accountable for peddling poison in our streets and preying on people that have substance abuse issues," said Gannon.
Large scale raids by the feds are nothing new around Indianapolis. In 2017, a series of drug busts helped topple drug kingpin Richard Grundy III.
Just last year, 22 people were arrested as part of a drug trafficking ring in Haughville dubbed Operation Garage Band.
Yet all the cases have one thing in common.
"You know drug traffickers are in business for one reason, to make money. They don't care whose family they ruin, and we're going to put them where they belong, in jail," said Gannon.
Gannon claims numerous drugs, including meth, heroin and fentanyl, were targeted in this week's raids.
He added that the fight against narcotics doesn't stop because of the coronavirus outbreak.
"Our job is to go out and dismantle violent drug trafficking organizations, and together with our partners, we're going to always do that," said Gannon.
In addition to the DEA, multiple agencies were involved this morning, including IMPD and United States Attorney's Office.

Britney Spears - Breathe On Me
"Lost Hit: Britney Spears' "Breathe On Me" Should Have Been A Single" (August 15, 2017)
Britney Spears flirted with innuendo on her first three albums, but the bubblegum princess emerged as a sexually liberated woman on her 2003 opus, In The Zone. The then 22-year-old kicked off the era by making out with Madonna, pop's reigning queen, at the VMAs. The move was heralded as a figurative passing of the torch to the industry's most viable up-and-comer and presented a more adventurous image for the blossoming starlet. When her album followed several months later, gone were the pristine pop hooks and the proclamations that Spears was still "not that innocent." Instead, she rode in on what is arguably one of her most mature and eclectic releases to date.
She teamed up with Madonna again for the LP's lead single, "Me Against The Music," on which the "Like A Virgin" provocateur challenged her protege to lose control over a racing production. Coupled with a raunchy visual featuring some of Brit's best choreography to date, they drove the beat to the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a respectable effort, but it paled in comparison to the album's unhinged second single "Toxic." Produced by Swedish duo Bloodshy and Avant, the track rocketed into the top 10 (her best showing since 2000's "Oops!... I Did It Again") and became one of the best-selling releases of 2004. The heart aching piano ballad "Everytime" followed, netting another top 20 hit and suggesting that the album had some serious staying power.
Tragedy struck when Britney slipped on pavement while recording the video for the project's fourth single, "Outrageous." After undergoing surgery to repair floating cartilage in her knee, she was sidelined for months bringing the album's promotion to an untimely end and leaving a veritable treasure trove of unexplored material behind. One of those tracks that shimmered with potential was the album's most sensual offering, "Breathe On Me."
Written by Steve Anderson, Lisa Greene and Stephen Lee with production from Mark Taylor, the track was a last-minute idea developed by Anderson hours before a scheduled writing session. On an album that was meant to signify personal growth, "Breathe On Me" allowed her to explore her sexuality in an overt manner like never before. Doing away with the clever double entendres that defined some of her earliest hits, this track found her in the midst of a fiery tryst with a partner.
"Oh, it's so hot, and I need some air. And boy, don't stop cause I'm halfway there," she groans over a pulsing production in the opening moments. If it was hot 30 seconds into the recording, the temperature only continued to rise as Britney pleads with her lover for a deeper connection. Sparse beats build under her purred vocal line, rising in urgency as she falls further into ecstasy. "We don't need to touch, just breathe on me," she proclaims as the production soars to a climax behind her. Remarkably, the pop star handled the mature subject manner with ease, embodying the seductive lyrics and injecting a sense of passion as her whispery vocals soared to new heights of pleasure.
Although it was never released as a single, "Breathe On Me" has been a staple on the setlist of almost every tour Brit has embarked on since releasing In The Zone. On 2004's Onyx Hotel Tour she slid down a fireman's pole and writhed around in a bed with a dancer while dressed in her best lacy lingerie. She offered one lucky fan a lap dance during her M+M's Tour in 2007 and flew through the air on levitating frames during The Circus Starring Britney Spears Tour in 2009. The lusty track reappeared on the setlist of her remixed and reimagined Piece Of Me show when it relaunched in 2016. More than 10 years after its original release, the track retains its magic as the now 35-year-old hitmaker and her female dancers seductively prance across the stage before blowing glitter into the air at the peak of their frenzy. Revisit the hit that should have been below.

Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson said there was no clear motive, though Reinking may have "mental issues." He may still be armed, Anderson told a mid-afternoon news conference, because he was known to have owned a handgun that authorities have not recovered.
The AR-15 used in the shooting and the handgun were among four firearms that authorities took from Reinking after U.S. Secret Service agents arrested him last July for being in a restricted area near the White House, officials said. Special Agent Todd Hudson said Reinking was detained after refusing to leave the restricted area, saying he wanted to meet President Donald Trump.
