More than 30 former Trump officials hold secret call aimed at working against the former president's efforts to sway 2022 midterms and 2024 presidential election
Among those who participated were Alyssa Farah Griffin, Anthony Scaramucci, and retired Gen. John Kelly
Miles Taylor, author of the famed 'Anonymous' New York Times op-ed and former DHS chief of staff, led the efforts
Taylor said ideas for sabotaging Trump included 'shining a light' on his corporate contributors or targeting each of the candidates he endorses
One individual said there was unanimity on the call that 'this cannot just be a professional trolling operation, putting out ads like the Lincoln group'
January 18, 2022
"Nearly three dozen former Trump officials reportedly held a conference call last Monday to discuss undermining their former boss' influence in the 2022 and 2024 elections.
Among those who participated were former White House communications directors Alyssa Farah Griffin and Anthony Scaramucci, former White House chief of staff, retired Gen. John Kelly, former Homeland Security and counterterrorism adviser to Vice President Pence Olivia Troye, according to CNN.
Griffin, now a CNN commentator, became a target of the president after she claimed that he knew he lost the 2020 election. On Monday she publicly encouraged Republicans to challenge Trump.
'DeSantis should run,' she wrote on Twitter Monday, quoting news that Trump had called the Florida governor 'dull.' 'So should Pence, Pompeo, Haley, Cotton, Tim Scott, Sununu, Hogan, etc. Credible Republicans with governing experience should challenge Trump. There's zero reason to nominate Trump again when R's have a bench & Biden is polling in the 30s.'
Former Department of Homeland Security official Elizabeth Neumann, and former Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Chris Krebs were also on the call. Miles Taylor, author of the famed 'Anonymous' New York Times op-ed and former DHS chief of staff, led the efforts.
Taylor told CNN that ideas for sabotaging Trump included 'shining a light' on his corporate contributors or targeting each of the candidates he endorses in state and local elections for defeat in the primary and general elections.
Kelly, who said he was only able to 'monitor' about 10 minutes of the hour-long call, is shying away from the idea of endorsing specific candidates.
One thing the group agreed on: their efforts are way behind those of the former president, who with a $115 million war chest has come out in full force with rallies, endorsements and campaigning.
Trump has bestowed his blessing upon almost 100 candidates who have agreed to go along with his claims of election fraud in the 2020 election.
Trump-endorsed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has made the president's election fraud claims front and center to her campaign, and it won her the president's endorsement, an invite to Mar-a-Lago and the former president stumped for her in Florence, Arizona over the past weekend.
Asked by NPR if candidates must 'press [his] case' of election fraud in order to win an endorsement, Trump pointed to Lake. 'She's very big on this issue. She's leading by a lot,' Trump said.
One individual said there was unanimity on the call that 'this cannot just be a professional trolling operation, putting out ads like the Lincoln group.'
The Lincoln Project was a band of so-called anti-Trump GOP strategists who fought for Democrats in the 2020 election with bill boards across the D.C. area and beyond. The group's influence fizzled amid allegations of workplace abuse and infighting and a number of bizarre stunts, including placing five fake backers of then- Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Glen Youngkin carrying tiki torches at a Charlottesville campaign stop.
Taylor concurred. 'We all agreed passionately that letters and statements don't mean anything,' he told CNN. 'The two operative words are 'electoral effects.' How can we have tangible electoral effects against the extremist candidates that have been endorsed by Trump?'
The group has plans in the works to hold another call next week.
Former national security adviser John Bolton was not on the call, but his top aide Sarah Tinsley joined to share new polling from Bolton's super PAC finding that Trump's hold over the party was waning.
A November 2021 Marquette University poll finding that 60% of Republicans still want Trump to run again and 73% say they would vote for him if he were the nominee.
Trump has dropped a series of unsubtle hints that he intends to run for the presidency again, but has not come out with a formal announcement."

Biden's DOJ goes against Trump and Barr by dropping their investigation into John Bolton's book
The Justice Department has abandoned its pursuit of John Bolton, 's national security adviser, dropping an investigation into his book that officials said revealed classified information and ending a law suit.
It marks a victory for Bolton who accused Trump of using the Justice Department under Attorney General Bill Barr for political purposes.
Although the Biden administration has backed several Trump-era legal positions designed to protect the , on Wednesday it filed court documents ending a year-long legal battle to suppress the book.
And Bolton's lawyer said prosecutors had also dropped a grand jury investigation.
'These actions represent a complete vindication for Ambassador Bolton, and a repudiation of former President Trump's attempt, under the pretext of protecting classified information, first to suppress the book's publication and when that failed in court, to penalize the ambassador,' said Bolton spokeswoman Sarah Tinsley.
The Trump administration sued last year to block the release of Bolton's book, 'The Room Where It Happened.'
It was still published in the lead-up to the 2020 president election delivering a deeply unflattering account of Trump and his foreign policy.
For example, it described how Trump asked Chinese premier Xi Jinping for help in his reelection and how the president pressured his Ukraine counterpart for politically charged investigations.
Trump repeatedly abused his former foreign policy lieutenant.
'John Bolton, one of the dumbest people I've met in government and sadly, I've met plenty, states often that I respected, and even trusted, Vladimir Putin of Russia more than those in our intelligence agencies,' he wrote on Twitter in August last year, shortly after the books release.
A month later he told Fox News: 'I will say this, John Bolton was a very stupid person. If I listened to John Bolton, we'd be in World War 5 right now.'
'What he did I think was highly illegal, I mean his book is loaded up with confidential and classified information.'

Bolton spokesperson denies report he'll vote for Biden
A spokesperson for John Bolton, President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, denied a report Sunday that Bolton intends to vote for Democrat Joe Biden in December, contrary to published reports. "This statement is incorrect. The Ambassador never said he planned to vote for Joe Biden," Bolton spokesperson Sarah Tinsley told Axios on Sunday. "He has consistently said in recent days he will be writing in the name of a conservative Republican. Let there be no doubt - he will not be voting for Trump or Biden." In an interview published late Sunday by The Telegraph, Bolton said that after seeing Trump in action, he cannot vote for him again. "In 2016 I voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton," he told the Telegraph. "Now, having seen this president up close, I cannot do this again. My concern is for the country, and he does not represent the Republican cause that I want to back." Bolton added that he believes Trump has no philosophy or strategy. "He does not know the difference between the national interest of the U.S., and the interests of Donald Trump. There is confusion over the national interest and his personal interest, which is very dangerous for the country," he said. Bolton's tell-all book about his time in the White House, which is harshly critical of Trump, is scheduled to be published Tuesday.

Bolton adviser, Sarah Tinsley, claimed on FOX NEWS that he submitted a hard copy draft of his manuscript to the NSC for pre-publication review, but had not shared it with anyone else.
If "hard copy" means the same as hard cover than obviously the book was already in the hands of the publisher, who is someone other than NSC. Also book release is scheduled for March 17. Any publisher anons that can comment on whether a publisher sets a release date before they have received a copy of the book?
