Presidential Commissioner Christian Flores arrested on corruption charges - Presidential Commissioner Christian Flores arrested on corruption charges
The Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported on Thursday the arrest of the Presidential Commissioner for Strategic Projects, Christian Herson Flores Sandoval, as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of improper bribery as a direct author; that is, taking advantage of his position to request gifts or economic benefits.
According to a statement published on social network X by the Prosecutor's Office, along with a photograph of Flores flanked by two police officers, the detainee, "using his position as Presidential Commissioner, demanded money from individuals and businesses in exchange for benefits and preferential participation in the government's strategic projects."
Upon learning of the arrest, the president on leave and re-elected for a second term, Nayib Bukele, reacted through his X account: "He is not the first, and he will not be the last. God willing, our war against corruption will be as successful as our war against gangs."
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office added that "this is just the beginning of a broad investigation to deduce responsibilities and other corruption crimes," and announced that Flores will be presented to the corresponding courts, to be prosecuted and answer to the law.
Others accused and without CICIES
Bukele announced in June 2023 that his government will wage a "full-scale war" against corruption and months later publicly asked Attorney General Rodolfo Delgado to also investigate officials in his government.
However, several members of Nayib Bukele's cabinet have been accused of committing acts of corruption both by the United States and by journalistic investigations, but to date, the Prosecutor's Office has not initiated an investigation.

Prosecutors also announced charges against a dozen other people, including former military officers, over the massacre. The list of charges will apparently include murder, terrorism and conspiracy.
The attorney general, Rodolfo Delgado, wrote on his Twitter account that his office "is determined to go after those accused of ordering this regrettable and tragic event".
The former president, who served from 1989 to 1994, has denied any involvement or knowledge of the plan to kill the priests.

A Texas judge and Democrat was arrested and charged with taking bribes in exchange for giving favorable rulings in his courtroom for more than a decade.
On Monday, 93rd State District Judge Rodolfo Delgado posted bond on charges asserting he abused his power and office to personally enrich himself with bribes dating back as far as 2008.
Federal authorities arrested Delgado on Friday and raided his home and office. He posted a $100,000 bond on Monday after filing for an appeal, claiming he didn't accept any bribes in exchange for favorable rulings.
His criminal complaint was unsealed Monday, which details that he is accused of accepting three bribes from November 2016 to January 2018.
He denies it, but the case it pretty clear. Federal agents have been investigating Delgado since November 2016 when prosecutors set-up a sting operation with another undercover lawyer to bribe Delgado at least twice.
The FBI used the lawyer turned informant to build the entire case against Delgado, which featured phone recordings, meetings, and documentation showing he accepted bribes from the lawyer in return for favorable rulings in his courtroom.
