Q Research General #13497: Attacks Will Only Intensify Edition
A trunk full of Britain's WWII secrets saved the worldBy Maureen Callahan September 27, 2015
"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be," he said. "We shall never surrender."
Yet in the shadows, Churchill was preparing for Britain to fall. In three months, he would authorize an unprecedented, top-secret operation that signaled his desperation: the handover of all of Britain's scientific and technological innovations to the United States.
James Phinney Baxter III, director of the US Office of Strategic Services from 1942 to 1943, would call the secrets, contained in a simple black metal box, "the most valuable cargo ever brought to our shores."
But it was also the resolve of the project's mastermind that changed the course of the war. It was known as the Tizard Mission - and though this month marks its 75th anniversary, it has somehow remained one of World War II's least-known triumphs.
Five years before Great Britain went to war, the Royal Air Force staged a mock aerial assault on London. The results were devastating, their means of national defense primitive.
Churchill was not yet prime minister but supported the new Committee for Scientific Study of Air Defense (CSSAD). Henry Tizard, a former military pilot and chair of the Aeronautical Research Committee, was tapped to lead it.
Tizard agreed to join on one condition: That he and his top two advisers not be paid, so as to put them "in a stronger position."All agreed.
Initially, the British government was in search of a "death ray." They didn't know what this would be other than some kind of paralyzing surface-to-air force that targeted bombers in the sky. The British still had no means of detecting unseen aircraft, nor shooting them down from the ground - they didn't know how to predict a flight pattern or adjust a shot to hit a moving target.
One of Tizard's first hires was Robert Watson-Watt, a scientist working in the field of radio waves. Watson-Watt dismissed the death ray, but he thought radio waves might be used to detect incoming bombers.
Tizard also hired a 24-year-old boy genius named Dr. Edward "Taffy" Bowen to collaborate with Watson-Watt. Bowen quickly regarded Tizard as a visionary. As he later said, "It was Tizard alone who saw the German air force, successfully shot down in daylight, switching to night raids.
"His prediction .?.?. must rank as one of the best examples of technological forecasting made in the 20th century," Bowen said.
Here was the challenge: How could a British pilot detect and destroy a German bomber he couldn't see or hear? Bowen had to build a lightweight device that could fit in a small plane, run on a very low supply of electricity, withstand turbulence and hits, and be simple enough for a pilot under attack to use.
Tizard and his team had made great strides. As Steven Phelps wrote in his 2010 book, "The Tizard Mission: The Top-Secret Operation That Changed the Course of World War II," they had developed prototypes of AI (airborne interception) and ASV (air-to-surface vessel) radar. As early as 1936, Tizard was aware of a former RAF Officer named Frank Whittle, who had invented the turbojet engine.
The government thought it was impossible; Tizard did not.
As Britain prepared for war, its citizens putting their dogs down and sending their children away, Tizard pressed on. This time period, from September 1939 to April 1940, passed with no great attacks and came to be known as "The Phony War," or, as the Brits called it, "The Bore War."
But that time gave Tizard an enormous advantage: He sent an attaché to obtain a copy of a top-secret document called the Frisch-Peierls memorandum, which had been drafted just one month before Germany attacked.
It was written by two British scientists who had determined that it was possible to build a deployable atomic bomb, one light and small enough to be flown thousands of miles overseas and dropped from above. It was a calculation even Albert Einstein doubted.
A desperate plan
As early as 1937, Tizard was looking to work with the Americans, but the idea went nowhere.
By early 1940, Britain was bracing for assault, and Tizard's colleague Archibald Hill, a Nobel Prize-winning biophysicist, encouraged him to simply give America his secrets.
"We are fooling ourselves if we put any trust in secrecy," he wrote Tizard. "We can get very considerable help from the United States if we are prepared to discard what is now really a fetish."
Tizard agreed.
Their key invention, one so revolutionary that the item itself had to be packed, was Bowen's Cavity Magnetron No. 12 - a vast improvement upon existing magnetrons and one so small it could be installed in fighter planes. Here was airborne radar.

Greenpeace Co-Founder Tells Congress to Ignore UN's Latest Extinction Warning
Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore will tell House lawmakers an alarming United Nations report on biodiversity is political activism masquerading as credible science, according to written testimony.
"It is clear that the highly exaggerated claims of the [U.N.] are not so much out of concern for endangered species as they are a front for a radical political, social, and economic 'transformation' of our entire civilization," Moore will tell lawmakers Wednesday, according to written testimony The Daily Caller News Foundation obtained.
Moore is set to testify in front of the House Committee on Natural Resources, sitting alongside U.N. scientists who recently issued an alarming report warning that 1 million species were threatened with extinction.
"Their recommendation for an end to economic growth alone condemns the developing world to increased poverty and suffering, and economic stagnation in the developed countries," Moore wrote.
Experts on the U.N.'s biodiversity panel, called the IPBES, will likely present a different picture than Moore. Sir Robert Watson, a British chemist who led the most recent IPBES assessment, called the report an "ominous warning."
"The health of ecosystems on which we and all other species depend is deteriorating more rapidly than ever," Watson said on the assessment's release in early May.
The IPBES report generated apocalyptic media headlines. A CNN correspondent summarized the report as humans need to be "consuming less, polluting less and having fewer children."
"This is not a new phenomenon," Moore says. "The so-called Sixth Great Extinction has been predicted for decades. It has not come to pass, similar to virtually every doomsday prediction made in human history."
Moore is skeptical of IPBES's extinction warning, which is an extrapolation of data gathered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Moore put more weight behind the IUCN numbers.

UN: Humans Could Cause Extinction of 1 Million Species, Globalism Will Fix
The headline spread around the world Monday with the release of the United Nation's three-year, 1,500-page report on biodiversity screamed that humans are killing the planet and its population of animals and plants, with as many as one million species facing extinction in mere "decades."
However, mankind can stop the destruction through "transformative change" that could translate into globalism replacing national sovereignty and nations' self-determination.
"The health of ecosystems on which we and all other species depend is deteriorating more rapidly than ever," Sir Robert Watson, chairman of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), which produced the report. "We are eroding the very foundations of our economies, livelihoods, food security, health and quality of life worldwide." Watson added:

During World War II, Trump switched from work on hospital X-ray machines to research into similar technologies with a more direct application to warfare, especially the development of radar. During 1940, he joined the newly formed National Defense Research Committee (NDRC), as technical aide to Karl Compton, President of MIT and the Chairman of the Radar Division.[6]
During 1942, Trump became Secretary of the Microwave Committee, a sub-committee of the NDRC. The director of the Microwave Committee was Alfred Lee Loomis, the millionaire physicist, who decided to create a laboratory. He selected a site for it, chose a suitably discreet and ambiguous name for it and funded the construction, until the Federal administration was established. The new institution was the MIT Radiation Laboratory, or the "Rad Lab". The British were also researching radar, which they termed Radio Direction Finder (RDF), and had started much earlier. Their Tizard Mission to the US showed how much more sophisticated they were with some of the technologies, particularly the magnetron. The US decided to send a team to Britain to help coordinate the efforts of the two Allies. The unit was known as the "British Branch of the Radiation Laboratory" (BBRL) and operated as a department of Britain's Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE) at Malvern, in Worcestershire. In 1943, as the technical aide in Division 14 of the NDRC, Trump reviewed and analyzed the papers of Nikola Tesla when the inventor died in a New York City hotel. The research was completed on behalf of the Alien property Custodian office in Washington DC. From February 1944 to the end of the war in Europe, Trump was the Director of the BBRL.[7]
During this time, Trump also served in the Advisory Specialist Group on Radar, advising USAAF General Carl Spaatz on navigational radar, precision-bombing radar, and also defenses against the German radars found in their night-fighters and in their flak units. The systems included: Gee, Oboe, LORAN, H2X, MEW & SCR-584. Trump worked with all the most important British radar experts, including Sir Robert Watson-Watt, A.P. Rowe and Bernard Lovell. At the end of the war, Trump also had interviews with Germany's main radar technicians.[8][9] Trump received recognition for his war-work from both the United States and the United Kingdom.[10][11][3]

Assange helped our police catch child pornographers
IT HAS been revealed in a Melbourne court that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange once helped
Victoria Police in two investigations into child pornography.
He provided expert technical advice and support to assist in the prosecution of people suspected
of involvement in pornography offences on the internet.
The Saturday Age can now report this after a judge yesterday revoked a suppression order she
imposed last month, partly out of concern for Assange's safety.
Judge Jeanette Morrish last month suppressed a portion of a transcript of Assange's court
appearance in 1996 when he admitted computer hacking offences.
The paragraph included his lawyer stating that in 1993 Assange had ''provided assistance to
police authorities'' but he could not elaborate.
A week ago, when The Saturday Age appeared before Judge Morrish to apply for the order to
be lifted, Assange's Melbourne lawyer, Grace Morgan, said he did not consent to or oppose its
revocation.
Ms Morgan, of Robert Stary Lawyers, passed a handwritten note to the judge that elaborated
on Assange's assistance. Judge Morrish then said the contents of the redacted paragraph, if
unexplained, ''are apt to be utterly misleading and dangerous because they convey the
impression that Mr Assange is an informer and he's not''.
This week Assange has been fighting moves in London to extradite him to Sweden to face sex
claims.
Ms Morgan yesterday read the following clarifying statement to the court on Assange's behalf:
''In 1993, when Mr Assange was in his early 20s, he provided assistance to investigators from the
Victoria Police child exploitation unit.
''My client assisted in relation to two investigations. His role was limited to providing technical
advice and support [and] to assist in the prosecution of persons suspected of publishing and
distributing child pornography on the internet.
''Mr Assange's participation was concluded in the mid-90s. He is not aware of the ultimate
outcomes of the operations, but understands that his technical expertise was of value to the
investigations.
''Mr Assange received no personal benefit from this contribution and was pleased to be in a
position to assist.''
Judge Morrish's original concerns related to prejudicing the administration of justice or
endangering the physical safety of any person.
Before Assange's position was clarified, she asked last week, ''How long would he last if he had a
reputation of being an informer?''
