The Greek parliament will open a confidence debate in the government on Tuesday, with the vote expected on Wednesday night, Reuters reports, citing a parliamentary official. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called the confidence vote following the resignation of coalition partner Panos Kammenos and his Independent Greeks party on Sunday over a deal to end a decades-long dispute between Athens and Skopje over Macedonia's name. Tsipras' leftist Syriza party has 145 seats in the 300-seat parliament and the support of one independent lawmaker. The PM needs the support of at least five more deputies to win the confidence vote. Even if Tsipras prevails in the confidence vote, the government will have to rely on the backing of lawmakers outside his party to push through legislative initiatives. Tsipras hopes to bring the Macedonia name deal to parliament after the confidence vote, if he wins it.

Greek defense minister resigns, PM Tsipras calls vote of confidence in govt
Greece's defense minister has resigned in protest against a deal that would end a years-old dispute with Macedonia over its name. Panos Kammenos' exit could endanger the ruling coalition government ahead of national elections.
Kammenos submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Sunday. Speaking after the meeting, he said that "The Macedonia name issue… doesn't allow me not to sacrifice the minister's chair."
Following the news, Tsipras announced that he will call a confidence vote in his government next week.
Greece has a province called Macedonia and has repeatedly called on Skopje to change its country's name, which Athens considers an affront to Greek sovereignty. For years, Athens has blocked Macedonia's entry to the European Union and NATO, citing the name dispute.
The two countries recently agreed on a name change - the Republic of North Macedonia - but Kammenos said any deal including "Macedonia" in the name of the Balkan state to Greece's north was unacceptable.
Macedonia's parliament ratified the name change deal on Friday, but it will not go into effect until Athens does the same.
The country's main opposition, the conservative New Democracy party, said it will block the deal.
The Independent Greeks - the small party which Kammenos leads - formed a coalition with Tsipras in 2015, giving the prime minister a slim majority in parliament. Kammenos has vowed that he would also pull six other ministers from his party out of the government.
The future of the ruling coalition government remains unclear. Greece will hold parliamentary elections in October. Tsipras's coalition has 153 seats in the 300-strong parliament, 145 of them from his leftist Syriza party.

Greek Leader Calls for Vote of Confidence After Minister Quits Over Macedonia Deal
ATHENS - Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called on Sunday for a vote of confidence in the Greek government, hours after a junior coalition partner announced that he would quit in protest of a deal to end a dispute with Macedonia over its name.
The move threw the country into new political turmoil, fueling speculation about possible snap elections, although Mr. Tsipras said his government aimed to complete its term into October.
The coalition partner, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who is also the leader of the right-wing Independent Greeks party, announced his resignation following talks at the prime minister's residence.

Greece warns Turkey: "If they make the slightest move, we will crush them"
Stern warnings from Greece to Turkey. Stern words in return, as well. Defence Minister Panos Kammenos warned that Ankara would pay for violating Greek airspace by Turkish jets over the Aegean.
The minister said whilst visiting a military outpost on the Aegean island of Leros, "If they make the slightest move, we will crush them," adding that Athens wants peace and harmony but it won't "concede a single centimetre" of its land.
His words seem aligned with Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, chief of the Hellenic General Staff, who said:
"If the Turks land on a rocky islet, we will raze it to the ground. That is a red line that is espoused by the government," suggesting a military confrontation with Turkey is a possibility, but adds "along with the US and the European Union, we want to ensure that the Turks do not reach that point."
Turkey's Gen. Hulusi Akar, chief of its General Staff fired back that they will not allow "any fait accompli in the Aegean and the Mediterranean". Turkey will not back down "from the rights of our country and our people," he added.
There have been clashes the past few years between the two NATO allies countries' warships, as well as mid-air encounters of Turkish and Greek jets, with this current scuffle over a pair of Turkish F-16s making a fly over on Thursday of the island Kastelorizo in the eastern Aegean. Only minutes before a helicopter with Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos travelled the area on the way to Athens.
The dispute between Greece and Turkey continues over the Aegean as dozens of small islets in the sea make determination of the boundaries of the maritime border especially difficult. Despite efforts to come to agreement, the two countries have so far had no success.

'We'll crush them!' Greece threatens NATO ally Turkey over Aegean islets
Greece's top military brass have fired off a set of unusually stern warnings to Turkey, threatening to crush its troops if they dare to land on any disputed islet in the Aegean Sea - but Ankara didn't mince its words either.
Reacting to violations of Greek airspace by Turkish jets over the Aegean, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos warned that Ankara would pay a price. "If they make the slightest move, we will crush them," Kammenos threatened. Athens wants peace and harmony, he said, but it won't "concede a single centimeter" of its land.
The minister was visiting a military outpost on the small Aegean island of Leros, so the bellicose rhetoric could be explained by his desire to raise the troops' morale. But it was also echoed by Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, chief of the Hellenic General Staff.
"If the Turks land on a rocky islet, we will raze it to the ground. That is a red line that is espoused by the government," Apostolakis declared. He suggested that a military confrontation with Turkey is a possibility, but said "along with the US and the European Union, we want to ensure that the Turks do not reach that point."
It comes after Greece's military said that a pair of Turkish F-16s made a flyover of the island of Kastelorizo in the eastern Aegean on Thursday, minutes after a helicopter carrying Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos traveled through the area en route to Athens.
Turkey, however, will not allow "any fait accompli in the Aegean and the Mediterranean," according to Gen. Hulusi Akar, chief of its General Staff. There is no way that Turkey will back down "from the rights of our country and our people," he said.
Despite formally being NATO allies, Greece and Turkey share an uneasy history. The modern-day Turkish Republic was founded after a bloody war with Greece and Western powers back in 1923.
Hostility between Athens and Ankara persisted throughout several decades, reaching its peak during the Cyprus Crisis, which almost erupted into full-scale war after Turkish troops invaded the north of the island in 1974.
urrently, Greece and Turkey have several disputes over the Aegean. The sea is dotted with dozens of small islets, making delimitation of the maritime border especially challenging. Several clashes between both countries' warships have taken place over the last few years, along with numerous mid-air encounters of Turkish and Greek jets.
At times, both countries have tried to come to an agreement over the issue, but to no avail so far.

Senator Rand Paul: "Soros paid protester arrested. Same group operates inside congressional office buildings. Are democrats paying to incite violence?"
The liberal group American Bridge 21st Century announced Wednesday night that it had fired one of its operatives a day after he was arrested and accused of battery against the female campaign manager for Nevada GOP gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt.
In a statement, American Bridge said that Mike Stark had been relieved of his duties "effective immediately."
American Bridge was founded in November 2010 by David Brock, who also founded liberal watchdog group Media Matters. The group's largest donor is liberal billionaire George Soros, who contributed more than $2 million between 2015 and 2016. Soros is still involved with the group, most recently donating $300,000 in February, and $80,000 last year.
Stark, 50, was arrested by Las Vegas city marshals Tuesday evening after 31-year-old Kristin Davison said he grabbed and twisted her arm, refusing to let go.

Clash between the Defense Minister and Foreign Minister of Greece about the involvement of Soros
Not sure if you have heard about what is going on in Greece right now, but after a big clash between the Foreign Minister and the Defence Minister during the cabinet yesteday, the Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias resigned, as the Defense Minister Panos Kammenos accused him of mismanaging secret ministry funds and being a man of billionaire financier George Soros.
It all started with the Prespes agreement but it went further as they both accused each other for mismanaging of the secret funds of their ministries, with Kammenos claiming that Kotzias accepted 50 million from Soros, in order to push the Prespes agreement.
PM Alexis Tsipras accepted the resignation and now he is also the Foreign Minister (which brought a lot of laughing here as his english is really bad).
BTW FYROM parliament probably wont confirm the name and the constitution changes of the Prespes Agreement and also the Greek Parliament doesnt seem to pass it either.

Add Greece to the list of countries pressing for more US troops
STUTTGART, Germany - Greece has invited the U.S. to set up new bases in the country, offering up coastal northeastern cities that would place American forces at the gateway to the Black Sea and in close proximity to the Balkans.
Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, during a news briefing Wednesday with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, said Athens wants the U.S. to establish a larger, more permanent presence in Greece.
While a base at Souda Bay on the island of Crete has long been a key location for the U.S. Navy, the Pentagon is welcome to build up in other Greek locales, Kammenos said.
"It is very important for Greece that the United States deploy military assets in Greece on a more permanent basis, not only in Souda Bay but also in Larissa, in Volos, in Alexandroupoli," he said.
Greece is pressing for more troops at a time when regional rival Turkey has become more unpredictable and Russia more active in Greece's neighborhood. In September, Greek officials made similar overtures during a visit by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford.

Greek far-right MP arrested, investigated for treason over coup remark
Reuters Staff
ATHENS (Reuters) - A lawmaker from Greece's far-right Golden Dawn was arrested on Friday after calling for a military coup and a prosecutor ordered an investigation into whether his tirade amounted to high treason, judicial and police sources said.
Konstantinos Barbarousis was taking part in a debate on a no-confidence motion brought against the leftist-led government by the conservative opposition over a landmark deal reached this week with neighboring Macedonia on its name.
Under the deal, to be signed on June 17, the ex-Yugoslav republic will be known as the "Republic of North Macedonia" after decades of talks over its name. The deal must still be approved by both parliaments and in Macedonia by a referendum.
"The dismemberment of Greece has begun," Barbarousis said, in heated remarks that sparked outrage in the assembly.
"As the country's political leadership is not legislating in the nation's interests but in its own interests, I call on the country's military leadership to respect its oath and to arrest Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, (Defence Minister) Panos Kammenos and (President) Prokopis Pavlopoulos to avert this treason."
Golden Dawn condemned Barbarousis's comments and expelled him. The party was banned from participating in the debate.
Judicial authorities did not need parliament's permission to lift the lawmaker's immunity for the alleged offense, the prosecutor said.
Athens says its neighbor's use of the name Macedonia implies territorial claims on a northern Greek province of the same name and also amounts to appropriation of Greece's ancient heritage. Macedonia is the birthplace of Alexander the Great.
