New French Prime Minister Opposes Internet Anonymity, Compares Social Networks to Vichy France
Newly-appointed French prime minister Jean Castex has made it clear that he is no fan of anonymity on the Internet, claiming that it distorts political debates online.
Prime Minister Castex labelled anonymity as "something shocking" and went on to say: "You can call someone all kinds of names, accuse them of all kinds of vices, by hiding behind pseudonyms. In these conditions, social networks are the Vichy regime: nobody knows who it is!"
He went on to hint, during an interview with Le Parisien, that he would be working on counteracting anonymity online, saying: "I am for freedom of expression, but if we hide, the conditions of the debate are distorted. This is a subject that we will have to take up."
Castex said he would like to see "a little" regulation for social media, but claimed that such policy was not a top priority, claiming that unemployment and economic recovery in the wake of the Wuhan coronavirus were his chief concerns.

French president Emmanuel Macron has been clear in the past that he would like to see more regulation of social media, particularly when it comes to so-called hate speech online.
Last year, Macron even floated the idea that those convicted of hate speech crimes could be banned from using social media networks permanently, comparing such a move to banning football hooligans from football matches.
Former Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Mounir Mahjoubi said that social media companies could comply with bans by revealing user details.
"It is no longer acceptable today that platforms that have the means to help justice and the police to identify the person who has committed an offence online take several weeks, even months, before giving the information," he said.
In July of last year, the French parliament passed legislation that forces social media companies to remove hate speech posts within 24 hours or face large fines.

Macron wants to ban 'hate speech' convicts from all social media for life
Emmanuel Macron has suggested that anyone who has been convicted of 'hate speech' should lose access to social media platforms for life.
The French President brought the online censorship idea up at the annual dinner of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, stating that a new way to tackle online hate speech should be tabled for May.
"The European fight must continue, but it is too slow," Macron said comparing those convicted of hate speech to football hooligans banned from attending football matches.
France is set to "embed" regulators in Facebook to examine how effectively the social network tackles "hate speech," according to Breitbart.
How the government will enforce, the ban remains unclear with Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Mounir Mahjoubi saying, "the IP address is what Twitter has on each user who publishes a message on its platform. It must, as soon as possible, send it to the justice system to quickly identify the author and then 'we can continue.'"
"It is no longer acceptable today that platforms that have the means to help justice and the police to identify the person who has committed an offense online take several weeks, even months, before giving the information," Mahjoubi said.
The new proposal would mark a significant shift to the current punishments of fines and prison sentences. Some have reacted to the proposal with criticism including French journalist Gabriel Robin who said the proposal could lead to anti-establishment voices, such as mass migration critic Eric Zemmour being excluded from social media.
"Never, I repeat, ever has a liberal government taken so many repressive measures", he said.
Macron and other globalist politicians have continued to push for increasing laws and regulations to combat hate speech and so-called fake news online.

Globalist President Emmanuel Macron is flirting with more anti-free speech measures.
At an annual dinner, Macron put forward the idea of permanently banning those convicted of so-called "hate speech" crimes from all social media.
Broadcaster BFMTV reports that a bill fighting hate speech online will be filed around May.
This proposal to put the clamps on Internet speech coincides with the ear-piercing levels of criticism Macron is facing throughout the anti-government Yellow Vest protest. The French government has brought down the hammer on the Yellow Vest protestors, arresting approximately 8,400 protestors in a span of a few months.

According to Macron, "The European fight must continue, but it is too slow." Macron then went out of his way to compare banning individuals convicted of hate speech from social media to football hooligans being banned from attending football matches.
Now, there are questions regarding how the government will enforce this social media ban.
Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Mounir Mahjoubi said "the IP address is what Twitter has on each user who publishes a message on its platform. It must, as soon as possible, send it to the justice system to quickly identify the author and then 'we can continue'."
Mahjoubi added:
"It is no longer acceptable today that platforms that have the means to help justice and the police to identify the person who has committed an offence online take several weeks, even months, before giving the information."
The logic authoritarian globalists use is at times baffling. Let's consider this:
Hooligans are individuals that actively cause mayhem and destroy private property. On the other hand, those convicted of hate speech happen to say something that merely offends another individual or group. The only thing hurt in the latter case is someone's feelings.
France is embarking on a dangerous path with its latest move to further persecute hate speech. Hate speech is a vague term that authoritarian politicians use to muzzle controversial opinion and quell dissent.
France has witnessed the rise of "No Go Zones" and other unsavory social trends thanks to the EU's mass migration policies. As a result, numerous dissidents on the Right have stepped up to the plate to expose these schemes throughout the EU. Instead of being applauded for their public service, they've generally been met with social media exclusion and in worst case scenarios, fines and jail time.
Macron's latest proposal is par the course for globalist politicians in the EU. These politicians have made it a point to push for more laws and regulations to combat hate speech and so-called fake news online.
Day by day, free speech becomes an afterthought in Europe.

Macron: France Could Ban Hate Speech Convicts From All Social Media For Life
French President Emmanuel Macron has floated the idea that those convicted for crimes of hate speech could be banned from social media networks permanently.
President Macron floated the idea at the annual dinner of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIR) saying that a new bill to fight against hate speech online was being tabled for May of this year broadcaster BFMTV reports.
While the bill is being floated at a time where Jews are facing rising levels of real-life anti-Semitic attacks driving whole communities out of French cities, the proposal to stifle speech online comes as President Macron faces unprecedented levels of criticism from the anti-government Yellow Vest movement. The French state has cracked down hard on Yellow Vest activists, arresting 8,400 protestors in just a matter of months.
"The European fight must continue, but it is too slow," Macron said and compared banning those convicted of hate speech form social media to football hooligans being banned from attending football matches.
How the government will enforce the ban remains unclear with Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Mounir Mahjoubi saying, "the IP address is what Twitter has on each user who publishes a message on its platform. Some have reacted to the proposal with criticism including French journalist Gabriel Robin who said the proposal could lead to anti-establishment voices, such as mass migration critic Eric Zemmour being totally excluded from social media.
"Never, I repeat, ever has a liberal government taken so many repressive measures," he said.
While Macron and other globalist politicians have pushed for ever increasing laws and regulations to combat hate speech and so-called fake news online, the new proposal would mark a significant shift to the current punishments of fines and prison sentences.
