Silkwood is a 1983 American biographical drama film directed by Mike Nichols and starring Meryl Streep, Cher, and Kurt Russell. The screenplay by Nora Ephron and Alice Arlen was adapted from the book Who Killed Karen Silkwood? by Rolling Stone writer and activist Howard Kohn which detailed the life of Karen Silkwood. Silkwood was a nuclear whistle-blower and a labor union activist who died in a car collision while investigating alleged wrongdoing at the Kerr-McGee plutonium plant where she worked. In real life, her death gave rise to a 1979 lawsuit, Silkwood v. Kerr-McGee, led by attorney Gerry Spence. The jury rendered its verdict of $10 million in damages to be paid to the Silkwood estate (her children), the largest amount in damages ever awarded for that kind of case at the time. The Silkwood estate eventually settled for $1.3 million.[2]
Silkwood was shot largely in New Mexico and Texas on a budget of $10 million. Factual accuracy was maintained throughout the script. One scene in particular involved Silkwood activating a radiation alarm at the plant; Silkwood herself had forty times the legal limit of radioactive contamination in her system.
Streep had just finished filming Sophie's Choice (1982) when production began. The film marked a departure for some of its stars: it is noted for being one of the first "serious" works of Cher, who had been previously known mostly for her singing, and for Russell, who was at the time widely known for his work in the action genre.
The film received positive reviews and was a box office success, with particular attention focused on Nichols' direction and Streep's performance. At the 56th Academy Awards, Silkwood received five nominations in total, including Streep for Best Actress, Cher for Best Supporting Actress, and Nichols for Best Director. After being out of print on DVD in the United States, the film was released on Blu-ray on July 25, 2017.
Plot
Karen Silkwood, a worker at the Kerr-McGee Cimarron Fuel Fabrication Site (near Crescent, Oklahoma), shares a ramshackle house with two co-workers, her boyfriend Drew Stephens and her lesbian friend Dolly Pelliker. She makes MOX fuel rods for nuclear reactors, where she deals with the threat of exposure to radiation. She has become a union activist, concerned that corporate practices may adversely affect the health of workers. She is also engaged in a conflict with her former common-law husband in an effort to have more time with their three children.
Because the plant has ostensibly fallen behind on a major contract - fabricating MOX fuel rods for a breeder reactor at the Hanford Site - employees are required to work long hours and weekends of overtime. She believes that managers are falsifying safety reports and cutting corners wherever possible, risking the welfare of the personnel. Karen approaches the union with her concerns and becomes active in lobbying for safeguards. She travels to Washington, D.C. to testify before the Atomic Energy Commission. She interacts with union officials who appear to be more interested in the publicity she is generating than her welfare and that of her co-workers.
When Silkwood and other workers become contaminated by radiation, plant officials try to blame her for the incident. When she sees weld sample radiographies of fuel rods being retouched to hide shoddy work, and that records of inadequate safety measures had been altered, she decides to investigate further herself. Complications arise in her personal life when Angela, a funeral parlour beautician, joins the household as Dolly's lover. Unable to deal with Silkwood's obsession with gathering evidence, and suspecting her of infidelities, Drew moves out.

The theory that Alec is a good guy is silly to me, its very possible hr was a good guy olin one of his earliest movies, and the cult got to him shortly after this movie. He enjoyed tye fame of Red October and wanted more, but he had to join the cult and kill in order to be as famous as he wanted. After that film, his parts got were darker. Hunt for Red October was only his fifth film, it was his turning point as a star. They would have definitely gotten to him after that.
In his early career he then has played both leading and supporting roles in a variety of films such as Tim Burton's Beetlejuice (1988), Mike Nichols' Working Girl (1988), Jonathan Demme's Married to the Mob (1988), and Oliver Stone's Talk Radio (1988). He gained attention for his iconic performances in Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), and as Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October (1990). Since then he has worked with such notable directors such as Woody Allen in Alice (1990), To Rome with Love (2012), and Blue Jasmine (2013), Spike Lee in BlacKkKlansman (2018), and Martin Scorsese in The Aviator (2004) and The Departed (2006). His performance in the 2003 drama The Cooler garnered him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
From 2006 to 2013, Baldwin starred as Jack Donaghy on the critically acclaimed NBC sitcom 30 Rock starring alongside Tina Fey. He won many accolades for his performance winning two Primetime Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards for his work on the show, making him the male performer with the most SAG Awards.
Baldwin recently co-starred alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout, respectively the fifth and sixth installments of the Mission: Impossible series. He is also a columnist for The Huffington Post. Since 2016, he has been the host of Match Game. He has received worldwide attention and acclaim for his portrayal of Donald Trump on the long-running sketch series Saturday Night Live, both during the 2016 U.S. presidential election and following the inauguration, a role for which he won a Primetime Emmy in 2017.

"'Beautiful Girls' at 25: Recent Natalie Portman comments shine light on film's sexualization of underage 'Lolita' character"
"The film starred Timothy Hutton, Matt Dillon, Uma Thurman, Michael Rapaport, Mira Sorvino, Martha Plimpton, Rosie O'Donnell, Lauren Holly and Noah Emmerich. But its breakout was clear: teenager Natalie Portman, who played the 13-year-old Marty, self-described "old soul" next door neighbor to returning New York musician Willie Conway (Hutton). It was Portman's third film following a stunning debut in 1994's The Professional and a supporting appearance among heavyweights Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in 1995's Heat. Her engaging performance in Beautiful Girls would solidify her as a rising star.
"Portman, a budding knockout, is scene-stealingly good even in an overly showy role," the New York Times's Janet Maslin wrote at the time.
Still, even fans of the film had to admit there was always something at least a little creepy about the flirtatious nature of the relationship between Willie and Marty. During their "meet cute," Marty charms Willie by complimenting his sideburns and telling him he's cool; later, while they're ice skating, Marty announces that Willie's her new boyfriend before falling into his arms. Her charms are met by looks of increasingly lovestruck longing from Willie, even if he points out their age difference (yet nothing about the illegality) when she refers to them as "star-crossed lovers." It's Marty who finally says, "You'll go to the penitentiary" before telling him to "wait five years." (Willie wisely declines, but not without using an inane Winnie the Pooh analogy to explain why.)
Even once the adult draws the line, the cringe factor persists. When Marty tells Willie that his girlfriend Tracy (Annabeth Gish), who's just arrived from New York, is "really pretty," Willie replies to her, "She's not as pretty as you." The point here was ostensibly to portray Willie as a good guy (outside of entertaining thoughts of a romance with a child) trying to make a heartbroken kid feel better, but that doesn't make it any less inappropriate.
Portman herself took a stand against the film - and how she was portrayed through many of the movies at the beginning of her career - in a recent interview with actor Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast.
"I was definitely aware of the fact that I was being portrayed ... as this 'Lolita' figure," Portman told Shepard. "Being sexualized as a child, I think took away from my own sexuality because it made me afraid, and it made me [feel] like the way I could be safe was to be like, 'I'm conservative,' and 'I'm serious and you should respect me,' and 'I'm smart,' and 'don't look at me that way.'"
Portman, now 39, continued: "Whereas at that age, you do have your own sexuality and you do have your own desire, and you do want to explore things and you do want to be open. But you don't feel safe, necessarily, when there's older men that are interested, and you're like, 'No, no, no, no.'"
The Oscar-winning actress has become increasingly outspoken in recent years, particularly when it comes to gender roles and identity in the industry. In Mark Harris's new book Mike Nichols: A Life, Portman refers to her Closer director, who also directed her on Broadway in The Seagull in 2001, as "the only older man who mentored me without there ever being a creepy element in it."
By many accounts, Beautiful Girls was a well-intended story about love and friendship. But if Portman felt back then that she was being sexualized as a child (and still does today), then she was being sexualized as a child."

These are recognizable names who signed the Forgive Roman Polanski petition. After immediate outcry, they suppressed and buried the petition. I still have the names. Being on this list does NOT mean the person is a pedophile. It does mean pedophilia, to them, is a forgivable offense. This is troubling. Here are those names. There are many.
Woody Allen, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Jonatham Demme (deceased), Stephen Frears, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Isabelle Adjani, Jessika Cohen, Olivier Cohen, Harrison Ford (I know), Jeremy Irons, Neil Jordan, Milan Kundera, Sam Mendes, John Milius (I know), Mike Nichols, Natalie Portman, Salman Rushdie and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Again this does not mean they endorse pedophilia or are pedophiles. It does mean if you dig, and check assistants, producers, connections, you will find dots and lines that WILL lead to top members of the Hollywood pedophilia cabal.
Initials of the allegedly more than peripherally involved according to many:
DG, JK, SS, QT, BR, JB, RS.
Initial of cabal's most connected and powerful attorney: M. Works at L&S.
And as usual, audience sits and listens to an actor babbling about himself. Helmer just dropped a shitload of names for you. Dig, and do the math. Farewell.
