Biography
Dan Jarvis was appointed as Secretary of State for Defence on 11 June 2026.

He was previously Minister of State at the Home Office from 6 July 2024 to 11 June 2026, and Minister of State at the Cabinet Office from 6 September 2025 to 11 June 2026.

Political career
Dan first entered Parliament as the Member for Barnsley Central in 2011 and was elected as the Member for Barnsley North in July 2024. In 2011 Dan became the first person since the Second World War to resign his commission in order to contest a parliamentary by-election.

Dan served in various shadow front bench roles between 2011 and 2015 before serving on the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy between 2017 and 2019.

In 2018, he was elected as the first Mayor of South Yorkshire. During his four-year term, he unlocked a devolution deal and led the region through Covid-19 and severe flooding.

After leaving the mayoralty, he was appointed Shadow Security Minister in September 2023.
Education and early career

Dan graduated from Aberystwyth University with a degree in International Politics and Strategic Studies before attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

From Sandhurst, he was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment and subsequently deployed to Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.

His service included: Platoon Commander with 1 Para, Aide-de-Camp to General Sir Mike Jackson, and Adjutant 3 Para.

On promotion to major, he worked as a staff planner in the Permanent Joint Headquarters and then at the Army's Headquarters. He also served as a company commander in the Special Forces Support Group.
Personal life

In 2011 Dan was awarded an MBE for his service in the British Army, making him the first serving MP to be decorated for military service for a number of years.

A truck carrying more than 2,000 firearms when it was stolen early Sunday morning was not targeted for the weapons, police say.
On Monday, Det.-Staff Sgt. Mike Jackson from the Peterborough Police Service said investigators believe the incident was an "isolated crime of opportunity" and not a targeted incident.
"It is believed that the suspects entered several other commercial yards in the city before this one, and they had attempted to take different trucks and trailers before leaving with the truck and trailer unit sought in this incident," Jackson said.
Police have confirmed there was no ammunition on the trailer at the time, Jackson said, and that the stolen firearms were "of a small calibre with the clips attached."
Peterborough cops responded to a business located on Parkhill Rd. E. at about 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 13.
Police say the truck that was stolen is a 2019 Freightliner New Cascadia 126 with Ontario licence plate '938 2PV,' white in colour and with the company name in red on the doors and a red '#97' on the side of the hood. The trailer was a 2014 Hyundai 53-foot Dry Freight Van trailer with licence plate 'V30 92A,' white in colour with a silver metallic line that runs horizontally the entire length of the trailer.
According to footage obtained by police, the suspects appear to arrive in a four-door blue sedan that follows the tractor-trailer unit out of the yard.
The whereabouts of the trailer and its contents are unknown to police, who are also focused on uploading the stolen firearms onto the national database.

In his March 2015 memo Soros further writes that Ukrainian President Poroshenko's "first priority must be to regain control of financial markets," which he assures Poroshenko that Soros would be ready to assist in: "I am ready to call Jack Lew of the US Treasury to sound him out about the swap agreement."

He also calls on the EU to give Ukraine an annual aid sum of ?11 billion via a special EU borrowing facility. Soros proposes in effect using the EU's "AAA" top credit rating to provide a risk insurance for investment into Ukraine.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) – A federal grand jury has indicted Michigan State Representative Larry C. Inman (R).

Inman is accused of attempting to secure a bribe from a union group in exchange for voting against a bill designed to repeal the state's prevailing wage law. Failing to secure that bribe, Inman voted in favor of the repeal, according to an official document.

On Wednesday, charges of attempted extortion, bribery and lying to an FBI agent were filed against District 104 Michigan House of Representative Larry Charles Inman.

Grand Traverse County makes up the 104th District.

According to a federal indictment, Inman is accused of soliciting money through text messages between June 3 and June 5, 2018. The messages were sent to a labor union and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights (MRCCM).

Mike Jackson, executive secretary-treasurer of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, issued the following statement:

"Our members deserve elected officials who vote on the merits of a bill, and how it will affect us as taxpayers and hardworking people. We're glad that Larry Inman is being brought to justice."

The indictment said the money was in exchange for voting "no" on the 2018 legislative initiative petition to repeal Michigan's prevailing wage law.

The MRCCM did not respond as Inman allegedly requested. Inman ultimately voted "yes" on June 6, 2018, to repeal the law, and the Michigan House repealed the law by a vote of 56 to 53, according to the indictment.

The indictment includes excerpts of text messages Inman was believed to have sent to union representatives in the days before the vote, one of which Inman concludes by stating "we never had this discussion."

The grand jury believes based on the evidence it saw that Inman committed multiple crimes as an elected representative.

Using his authority as an elected official, these allegations include his to vote on the petition to repeal the prevailing wage law and efforts to obtain money from the MRCCM with the union's consent.

If convicted, Inman faces up to twenty years in prison.

The grand jury also alleges Inman solicited a bribe by corruptly soliciting a political campaign contribution in exchange for something worth $5,000 or more, namely his vote on the petition to repeal the prevailing wage law.

If convicted on this offense, Inman faces up to ten years in prison.

The grand jury further alleges that, when an FBI agent later asked Inman about his solicitation, Inman lied to the agent denying he had any such communications.

If he is convicted of this offense, Inman faces up to five years in prison.

According to the indictment, MRCCM's political action committee made political contributions to Inman's candidate committee totaling $6,000 between October 2017 and May 16, 2017.

Pristina International Airport incident
One of Clark's most debated decisions during his SACEUR command was his attempted operation to attack Russian troops at Pristina International Airport, immediately after the end of the Kosovo War in June 1999. A joint NATO-Russia peacekeeping operation was supposed to police Kosovo. Russia wanted their peacekeeping force to operate independently of NATO, but NATO refused. British forces were supposed to occupy Pristina International Airport, but a contingent of Russian troops arrived before they did and took control of the airport. Clark called then-Secretary General of NATO Javier Solana, who told him "you have transfer of authority" in the area. General Clark then issued an order for the NATO troops to attack and "overpower" the armed Russian troops.

In response, Lieutenant General Mike Jackson refused to obey the order, reportedly telling him "I'm not going to start the Third World War for you".[81][82] Jackson has said he refused to take action because he did not believe it was worth the risk of a military confrontation with the Russians, instead insisting that troops encircle the airfield. The stand-off lasted two weeks. Russian forces continued to occupy the airport, until eventually an agreement was secured for them to be integrated into peace-keeping duties, while remaining outside of NATO command.[83]

The refusal was criticized by some senior U.S. military personnel, with General Hugh Shelton calling Jackson's refusal "troubling".
