Gladys Berejiklian takes job with telco giant OPTUS in VERY surprising career move after quitting politics amid corruption probe - and the ex-NSW premier could be in for a huge payday
Gladys Berejiklian has accepted a new job at telco giant Optus four months after her shock resignation as NSW premier.
Ms Berejiklian, 51, will join Optus in the newly-created role of Managing Director of Enterprise and Business, the company said on Friday.
'I am excited and proud to join an organisation that impacts the lives of millions of Australians every day and prides itself in providing outstanding customer service,' she said in an official Optus statement.
How much she will make in her new role is unclear, but it will likely rival the $200,000 a year in superannuation she is set to receive when she turns 55.
In October, she stepped down as NSW leader over an ICAC corruption probe into her doomed relationship with disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire.
The move will come as a surprise to those who tipped her to follow in the footsteps of previous premiers and start a new role at the 'millionaire factory' - Macquarie Bank.
Locals in her powerbase on Sydney's north shore said she was ready to start a new job at Macquarie and follow the career path of previous ex-NSW premiers, Bob Carr and Mike Baird.
The decision proved to be financially lucrative for both men.
Baird moved into finance with NAB in 2017 after stepping aside as NSW premier and was paid a reported $500,000 to work in their investment division.
At the time, Baird said he was quitting politics for good to spend more time with his family.

Gladys Berejiklian's dodgy defence at ICAC destroyed by the smoking gun memo to former NSW Premier Mike Baird
Gladys Berejiklian's scandalous defence, which her barrister has been pushing at the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) during the week, that she did not act corruptly in awarding a $5.5 million grant for the electorate of her former secret boyfriend Daryl Maguire, Wagga Wagga, because she was only pork-barrelling has come unstuck by a smoking gun memo.
ICAC are investigating $35.5 million in grants, including $5.5 million issued to the Australian Clay Target Association, that Gladys Berejiklian approved for the seat of Wagga Wagga when she was treasurer before becoming premier in January 2017.
The memo was sent to former NSW Premier Mike Baird from his then advisor Nigel Blunden on the 12-12-16 which makes it clear the grant was dodgy and it couldn't have been pork-barrelling because Mr Blunden suggests that they would be better off spending the money elsewhere to pork-barrel as per below where he says at the end of the memo "At the very least, let's target our marginal seats, not one of our safest,"
One of the other lines that is most damming is:
They should go away, test the assumptions, verify the business case and then come back when it's solid. (this was suggested and it was taken off the agenda, but Daryl fired up and Gladys put it back on)
What the comment "let's target our marginal seats, not one of our safest" from Nigel Blunden to former NSW Premier Mike Baird also shows is how openly and blatantly corrupt Mike Baird and his staff were.
I watched a fair bit on the ICAC hearing during the week and published the below video on Wednesday (20/10/21) regarding Gladys Berejiklian's defence at ICAC. One of her barristers, Sophie Callan, is claiming Gladys Berejiklian wasn't acting corruptly she was just pork-barrelling which is a disgraceful defence and shows how desperate Gladys is. Sophie Callan didn't use the term "pork-barrelling", she used the words "political purposes" to describe the $5.5 million grant, which is the polite way of saying pork-barrelling.

The cunt is still a premiere of NSW - while her role could be considered satire, she was still installed because of a "resignation".
Gladys Berejiklian is an Australian politician serving as the 45th and current premier of New South Wales and the Leader of the New South Wales Liberal Party, offices which she assumed on 23 January 2017 following the resignation of Mike Baird.

'They just don't like each other': Inside the bitter rivalry between Annastacia Palaszczuk and Gladys Berejiklian that may be driving the ridiculous border dispute costing Australia BILLIONS
Annastacia Palaszczuk and Gladys Berejiklian 'just don't like each other'
The Queensland premier denied having bad blood with any state leaders
Ms Palaszczuk has been criticised for refusing to reopen her borders
Here's how to help people impacted by Covid-19
The New South Wales and Queensland premiers have a frosty relationship which may be contributing to tensions about border closures during the coronavirus crisis, insiders say.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and New South Wales' Gladys Berejiklian 'just don't like each other', a former political insider has told Australian Financial Review.
While many Australians have been left bewildered by the premiers seemingly turning the road map out of the COVID-19 pandemic into a 'State of Origin-like' game of political brinkmanship, there's actually a history of bad blood that goes back at least three years.
The relationship reportedly soured after Ms Palaszczuk blew up when Ms Berejiklian tried to speak before the other premiers at her first Council of Australian Government meeting after she took over leadership from Mike Baird in 2017.
Traditionally, after the prime minister speaks, premiers are given the opportunity to speak in order of seniority - beginning with the person who has been in office the longest.
When Ms Berejiklian reportedly attempted to jump the queue, she was brutally shot down by Ms Palaszczuk who said: 'That's not how it works here'.
Ms Palaszczuk, who has been in office since 2015, should have gone before her.
Of course, a spokesman for Ms Palaszczuk denied the Queensland Premier had any strained relationships in government.
He said she had 'good relationships with her interstate colleagues'.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted both premiers for comment about the story.
The New South Wales leader has repeatedly questioned Queensland's border policies throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Sunshine State was quick to lock down the border to stem the spread of the deadly respiratory virus, and has indicated it may not reopen for tourists until September.
Queensland is taking a $769 million tourism revenue hit for every month it stays shut.

Facebook, Instagram parent company Meta sued over scam ads featuring Dick Smith, David Koch
Amy Bainbridge and Nick Sas - 18 March 2022
The consumer watchdog is suing Facebook's parent company, Meta, over targeted fake cryptocurrency ads it says have scammed Australians out of more than $100 million.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission alleges the company engaged in false, misleading and deceptive conduct by publishing scam advertisements featuring prominent Australians.
The ACCC alleges the ads - which promoted fake cryptocurrency investments or other financial schemes - used targeted algorithms directed at people "most likely to be scammed".
The advertisements used images of businessman Dick Smith, TV presenter David Koch, and former New South Wales premier Mike Baird.
The ACCC says that, in one instance, a victim lost $650,000 to a scam.
ACCC chair Rod Sims said people had lost "a lot of money" through the ads.
"Facebook hasn't taken sufficient action to prevent them occurring," Mr Sims said.
"It is far from a dumb billboard in the town square, Facebook has active control [of this] at many stages"
Mr Sims said the ACCC has "easily seen" more than $100 million lost from victims through the scams.
"These ads are very successful," he said.
"Further, it's creating reputational damage for those involved.
"We know people contact the people involved in the ads [Dick Smith, David Koch, Mike Baird and Andrew Forrest] saying 'I followed your advice and I lost a lot of money.'"
Speaking to the ABC, businessman Dick Smith said he was "glad" the ACCC was taking action.
"I'm very disappointed about the number of Australians who lost money in these scams," he said.
Former NSW premier Mike Baird told the ABC he was aware of the proceedings and "fully supportive".
The ACCC alleges Meta's conduct breached Australian Consumer Law (ACL), or the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act.
Penalties for breaching ACL can run into millions of dollars.
The ACCC said people who think they have been scammed should contact their bank or financial institution as soon as possible.
Mr Sims said it was "world first" action and he hoped, if successful, it would have an impact worldwide.
"Though I predict it will be vigorously defended," he said.
In a statement, a Meta spokesperson said the company did not want to see "ads seeking to scam people out of money or mislead people on Facebook".
"We use technology to detect and block scam ads and work to get ahead of scammers' attempts to evade our detection systems," the spokesperson said.
"We've cooperated with the ACCC's investigation into this matter to date. We will review the recent filing by the ACCC and intend to defend the proceedings.
"We are unable to comment further on the detail of the case."
In February, Australian businessman Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest launched separate criminal proceedings against Facebook, alleging it was "criminally reckless" by not stopping criminals from using its social media platform to send scam advertisements to defraud Australian victims.
He alleged scammers had been using his image to promote bogus cryptocurrency investments since March 2019.
The case also alleged Facebook failed to create controls or a corporate culture to prevent its systems being used to commit crime.
He also launched civil proceedings against Facebook in California in September.
Mr Forrest said he had made many requests to Facebook to prevent his image being used by criminals scamming Australians.
An initial hearing for the Australian case will be heard in the Western Australia Magistrates Court later this month.

Swanson Kennedy is part of a team of five women - and one man - who work for Collective Shout, an Australian group which is campaigning to end the objectification and sexploitation of women and children.
Former NSW premier Mike Baird's wife Kerryn is its treasurer.
Founder Melinda Tankard Reist says that last year the group had 20 big wins, some of them global, including winning a fight to allow handball players to wear bike shorts rather than bikini bottoms.
Another was removing 23 suppliers of sex dolls based on the bodies of pre-pubescent girls from the Chinese online shopping platform Alibaba.
The company has since taken steps to block the sale of all sex dolls on its site to Australia.
The lingerie store Honey Birdette has also been a target of Collective Shout, which argues that many of its super-sized adverts displayed in shopping centres are "porn-themed, degrading and exploitative".
But in what looks very much like a David and Goliath battle, the group's biggest target is Meta - the social media behemoth - responsible for Facebook and Instagram.
Tankard Reist says while Swanson Kennedy is doing an incredible job at the coalface and has reported thousands of predators to the relevant authorities, it is like a game of whack-a-mole.
As soon as one account is pulled, another pops up.
She says what needs to happen is for social media companies to step up and take responsibility for its own content.
"We've been calling on Instagram to remove all pre-13 accounts, to stop allowing these types of comments on children's content and to remove, block and report the predators who engage with children and their content to authorities," Tankard Reist says.
"We've pointed out that there's a whole new understanding and recognition now of the importance of corporate social responsibility, and that corporations should act in the best interest of the community, well at least not harm the community.
"And so we're trying to hold these companies to their own alleged mission statement values, about social responsibility, about caring for the community, about caring for the environment."
Both Tankard Reist and Swanson Kennedy question why it's down to a small non-profit organisation of mainly part-timers to report these accounts to Instagram executives.
"That's wrong," Swanson Kennedy says.
"If it requires reporting and vigilance on our part it means that they are not doing their part."
Last month the duo appeared before a federal government inquiry into social media and online safety where they revealed disturbing evidence that photos of young children were being scraped off Instagram and turned into "deep fake" porn images that are then being shared online.
The inquiry also heard allegations there are products on social media sites that directly connect pre-pubescent girls to predators, where they are then exposed to men performing live sex acts.
Among those who gave evidence at the inquiry were groups representing people with eating disorders, with mental health issues, those fighting against bullying, as well as experts looking at how to tackle the issues caused by social media.
"We've heard some heartbreaking stories, some very strong voices of people who have been incredibly brave to speak out," Liberal MP Lucy Wicks, chair of the committee, says.
"Ultimately all Australians have the right to be as safe online as they do when they are out on the street.
"Big tech has certainly got some questions to answer."

Jubelin convicted and fined $10,000 over illegal recordings during Tyrrell case
The former lead investigator on the William Tyrrell case has been convicted and fined $10,000 for illegally recording four conversations during the investigation into the toddler's disappearance.
William, 3, vanished from his foster-grandmother's home at Kendall on the NSW Mid North Coast in September 2014.
Gary Jubelin, 57, a former detective chief inspector, recorded four conversations with a person of interest, Paul Savage, without the 75-year-old's knowledge between November 2017 and December 2018.
Three of the conversations were at Mr Savage's Kendall home, while a fourth was recorded when Jubelin put his phone on loudspeaker at police headquarters in Sydney and told another officer to record.
Jubelin maintained that he made the recordings to protect his lawful interest, but Magistrate Ross Hudson rejected that defence this week and found him guilty of all four charges. He found Jubelin "acted illegally" and pursued Mr Savage at all costs, "whether in the realms of the law or not".
On Wednesday, Magistrate Hudson said illegal recording "strikes across the heart, nature, extent and purpose of the Surveillance Devices Act" as he convicted Jubelin on each charge and fined him $2500 for each.
Speaking outside court, Jubelin said he is "obviously disappointed" and has lodged an appeal.
Magistrate Hudson said impacts of illegal recording have to be noted, including a court case potentially being thrown out, and the sentence should send a message to Jubelin, police and members of the public that illegal recording "won't be accepted or tolerated".
High-profile supporters of Jubelin - including NSW Greens politician David Shoebridge, former NSW Police deputy commissioner Nick Kaldas, and barrister Mark Tedeschi QC - earlier gave evidence that he has always acted with the utmost integrity.
Crown prosecutor Philip Hogan told the court there may be a view that "the ends justify the means" given the seriousness of William's disappearance, but the offending was "very serious" and "infringes fundamental civil rights".
"He chose to break the law, he knew he was breaking the law, it wasn't isolated," Mr Hogan said. "There is a complete absence of contrition and remorse."
Jubelin's barrister Margaret Cunneen, SC, said her client has faced significant punishment, including media attention, and on Wednesday a man shouted at him in the street: "we're gonna have fun in jail mate, you deserve it, you're scum".
Ms Cunneen said Jubelin "made a mistake, perhaps because of the pressure of the work he was under". She said Jubelin was also facing difficulties in his personal life at the time, which might explain why "he cut corners, one might say, to the extent of criminality in these four offences."
Written character references were also tendered to the court, including from victims' advocates.
Mr Shoebridge, a former barrister, said the Surveillance Devices Act is "an important piece of legislation" and described himself as "a person concerned about civil liberties". He said notwithstanding that, "I've come to give a character reference for Gary Jubelin".
Former senior crown prosecutor Mr Tedeschi said Jubelin is "a man of good character and the utmost integrity". He said he happened upon Jubelin in Parramatta after the allegations were made against him, and tried to convince him to remain an officer.
"His loss to the force is a loss to the state of NSW," Mr Tedeschi said.
Mr Kaldas, who led the homicide squad for several years, said Jubelin was ethical, displayed integrity, and was a "very committed, tenacious investigator".
"He is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen in the NSW Police Force," Mr Kaldas said.
William's foster-mother, who cannot be named, said when Jubelin was first assigned to her son's case she was told by politicians including former premier Mike Baird that "he was the man we needed, he was the guy who was going to get it done."
She became emotional when she said Jubelin invested himself in the case and "got to know William".
"We just felt that this is a man who wants to solve this," she said. "I think the NSW Police Force has lost one of their best."
Jubelin, who resigned from NSW Police in 2019, is now a journalist for The Sunday Telegraph.

Senior NAB exec to step down
The major bank has announced the departure of another senior executive, just weeks after confirming the resignation of former head of retail Mike Baird and former head of broker Nicole Devine.
NAB has announced that chief customer officer, business and private banking, Anthony Healy, will step down from the bank after serving for 10 years across several executive roles in Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Healy's resignation will be effective 30 April.
The outgoing CCO will be replaced by chief risk officer, business and private banking, Michael Saadie, subject to regulatory approvals, while NAB searches for a permanent replacement.
Following the announcement, NAB Group CEO Ross McEwan said: "Anthony has been recognised for his strong customer focus, innovation and market-leading results.
"He has been a champion for supporting our small to medium enterprises, the engine room of the Australian economy, and the development of regional and rural Australia.
"He has been a key member of NAB's executive leadership team through a challenging period, and I have valued his support since I joined NAB."
"I wish him well for the future."

Mike Baird privately rules out return to politics after quitting NAB
Former NSW premier Mike Baird has told associates he has no intention of returning to politics after stepping down as chief customer officer of the National Australia Bank after three years at the lender.
Mr Baird joined NAB six weeks after stepping down from state politics in 2017 to lead the institutional arm of the bank and moved to consumer banking the following year. The bank said in a statement to the ASX on Thursday morning Mr Baird will leave the role on April 15 and take a break before considering new opportunities.
Mr Baird stood by NAB as its reputation took a hit during the banking royal commission, including harsh criticism of former chief executive Andrew Thorburn and chairman Ken Henry in commissioner Kenneth Hayne's final report.
Mr Baird was rumoured to be among the candidates for the chief executive role after Mr Thorburn's departure following the commission's scathing findings, but the bank eventually tasked former Commonwealth Bank retail boss Ross McEwan with rebuilding its battered reputation as its new CEO.
It was reported the timing hadn't been right for Mr Baird to spend the necessary time away from Sydney as the leader of the Melbourne-based lender, but some observers also expressed doubts about his ability to climb to the top, saying he lacked the operational experience to lead a big four bank.

Mystery over Northern Territory tourism chief executive Simonne Shepherd's sudden resignation
THE chief executive of the Territory's Tourism and Culture department resigned abruptly yesterday.
Simonne Shepherd advised staff in an email that she would walk away from the job on March 20.
A government statement said Ms Shepherd, who maintained a very low profile, was leaving the Territory for family reasons.
However, mystery surrounds whether there were additional reasons behind the departure.
The NT News understands many in the industry had been lobbying for a change within the Tourism department due to issues which can not be revealed for legal reasons.
The NT News is not suggesting the push for change related specifically to Ms Shepherd's role.
The Territory is also on the lookout for chief executives for the education and housing departments.
The CEO of NT Major Events, Tim Watsford, has also resigned and is due to leave in April.
Current tourism department deputy CEO Andrew Hopper will initially act in the role of chief executive following Ms Shepherd's departure.
