French soldiers will be on duty on Saturday for the next "Yellow Vest" protest in order to free up police officers to concentrate on crowd control.
The troops will be deployed to help guard public buildings, allowing police to focus on dealing with "Yellow Vest" demonstrators in case of renewed violence in Paris and other cities, the government said.
They will be redeployed from the "Sentinelle" anti-terror operation, which patrols streets and protects airports, train stations, places of worship and other sites, government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux told reporters.
This will allow police forces to "concentrate on crowd control, along with maintaining law and order", he said.
Last Saturday, more than 5,000 police officers failed to stop hundreds of violent protesters from rampaging along the Champs-Élysées, burning and looting over 100 businesses in a rampage that lasted more than seven hours.
After the rioting, the government sacked Paris police chief Michel Delpuech.
Two other top police officials, including one of Delpuech's aides, will also be removed from their positions, government sources confirmed.
The deployment of troops is intended to allow riot police to engage more aggressively with the far-left and far-right groups as well as anarchists who have been blamed for much of the violence.
But some police unions have warned that maintaining law and order is not the role of a soldier.
"I'm worried about how they'll respond in case of attack," said Philippe Capon of the Unsa-Police union.
Troops were originally deployed on the streets in January 2015 after the massacre at the Charlie Hebdo magazine, and their patrols have become a regular sight in Paris and other cities.
The government has also announced plans to outlaw protests along the famed Champs-Élysées and other key areas if hooligans once again infiltrate the "Yellow Vest" demonstrations, which have taken place every Saturday since mid-November.

Paris Police Chief Fired - 91 Business on Champs Elysees Damaged in Weekend Riots
https://news.yahoo.com/paris-police-chief-fired-over-173845031.html
The Paris police chief has been fired for failing to contain violent riots that saw a string of flagship restaurants and shops torched along the French capital's famed Champs-Elysées.
The government announcement came after top security officials acknowledged that attempts by 5,000 police to stop several hundred black-clad rioters running amok along "the world's most beautiful avenue" for seven hours on Saturday had been an abject "failure".
Nominally part of the "yellow vest" movement, masked rioters burned down the famous Fouquet's restaurant as well as several newspaper stands, a string of luxury shops and vehicles.
The shocking weekend scenes, in which a mother and child narrowly escaped death in a burning building, pose a fresh security headache to Emmanuel Macron, the French president, after four months of "gilet jaunes" protests and amid opposition claims he is a soft touch on hooligans.
Caught napping, Mr Macron had rushed back from a ski break to pledge "strong measures" amid calls on social media for fresh violence next Saturday. The Right-wing opposition accused the president of being a soft touch, while police unions said they had not been given sufficiently robust orders to engage with rioters.
After crisis security talks on Monday, Edouard Philippe, the French prime minister, said: "The strategy for maintaining order was not correctly executed." As a result, he said Paris police chief Michel Delpuech would be replaced by the current state prefect of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, Didier Lallement.
Mr Philippe pledged to ban "yellow vest" demonstrations in the worst-hit areas - including the Champs-Elysées but also squares in the cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse - if police deem they have been infiltrated by ultra-violent trouble makers. In these three areas, police will have "greater autonomy" to disband any groups with the use of"drones" and "marker products" to identity individuals.
Fines for those who participate in illegal gatherings will be "significantly increased". Mr Philippe also promised to beef up Paris' police's security doctrine to engage in more "contact" with rioters at the behest of police unions, despite the risk of greater injury.
"You have to take responsibility and engage, with the possibility that people will get hurt," said Frederic Lagache of the Alliance police union.
France has for decades preferred to tackle mass protests with tear gas and rubber bullets but avoid physical clashes against large groups.

France to ban Yellow Vest protests in 'worst hit' areas if radicals spotted - French PM
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said Paris could soon ban protests in "worst hit" neighborhoods, after radical protesters turned a Yellow Vests' demonstration on Champs-Elysees into smashing, looting, and burning mayhem.
"From next Saturday, we will ban 'yellow vest' protests in neighbourhoods that have been the worst hit as soon as we see sign of the presence of radical groups and their intent to cause damage," Philippe told reporters on Monday.

Philippe then announced that the city's police chief, Michel Delpuech, will be sacked and replaced on Wednesday by Didier Lallement, currently the top police official in the southwestern region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Philippe criticized the Paris police for their handling of Saturday's protests, saying "the strategy for maintaining order was not correctly implemented."
Philippe also took aim at those social media users who he said were encouraging the rioting, saying that "all those who participate, encourage, or glorify it on social networks are complicit," and warning that "they will have to take responsibility."

France vows severe defence against Act 9 of Yellow Vest protests
1-12-19
The Good News is that there is actually some discussion in English about the Yellow Vest protests; the Bad News is that it comes from the NWO Press. Oh, well. Just requires some translating: every time it says "far-right", insert "non-Left"; and every time it says "violent protesters" substitute "violent police." There, all set.
Excerpt:
Officials have warned they expect this weekend's anti-government demonstrations to be bigger and more violent than a week ago, as a movement which had shown signs of fatigue appeared to gain new momentum.
Armoured vehicles and 5,000 officers will be deployed in Paris, where images of burning cars, smashed shops and daylong clashes between protesters and police have made global headlines since November.
"Blue-chip companies, the media, are all in Paris, we'll be more visible," Arnaud, a 48-year-old yellow vest organiser for the Seine-et-Marne region near the capital, told AFP.
…..
Nationwide some 80,000 security forces will be on hand.
'TEMPTED BY VIOLENCE'
It was unclear if the Paris protests would again focus on the Champs-Elysees and Arc de Triomphe, or begin in the La Defense business district west of the city.
The city's chamber of commerce estimates that nearly 500 shops have been damaged since the protests began, and many shops are likely to be boarded up and closed again on Saturday.
Paris police chief Michel Delpuech said he expected demonstrators to surpass the roughly 3,500 that attempted to march on the National Assembly last week, and predicted they would be "more tempted by violence".
"Those who are calling to demonstrate tomorrow know there will be violence, and therefore they are in part responsible," Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said in a Facebook interview Friday with Brut, a digital news site favoured by many yellow vests.
"Those who think that, a few thousand people, can make us question our institutions, are wrong," Castaner added later Friday.
Far-right National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, who has presented her party as the longstanding expression of many yellow vest demands, condemned the government's reaction as "disturbing".
"To accuse all protesters of 'complicity' with the thugs: here is a new verbal provocation and legal ineptitude waiting to undermine our rule of law," she wrote on Twitter.

"Tens of Thousands" of Police Prepare for Act 5 of Yellow Vest Protests
France is ready to deploy tens of thousands of police in anticipation for a fifth round of the Yellow Vest protests that have swept the nation since mid-November.
In Paris alone, 8,000 police will ready themselves to face the next round of uprising on Saturday from a French public who has become increasingly dissatisfied with the Macron government and its willingness to tax and move forward with globalist policy without public consent.
The chief of police in Paris is highly concerned about violent groups infiltrating the protests and is prepared to have police guarding landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe and prevent people getting close to the presidential palace.
"We need to be prepared for worst-case scenarios," police chief Michel Delpuech told RTL radio, according to Reuters.

Round five: Yellow Vests prepare for massive 'Macron resign' protest on Saturday
Paris is bracing for yet another round of Yellow Vest protests, with demonstrators planning to take to the streets on Saturday. More than 10,000 people have already RSVP'd on Facebook to the 'Acte 5: Macron Démission' march.
The demonstration is scheduled to take place in the French capital on the Champs-Élysées.
The organizers, consisting of some 15 groups, have outlined their list of demands on Facebook, saying they will continue their action against Macron until all their demands are met.
"Our organizations support the demands of tax and social justice brought by the movement of yellow vests. They call for demonstrations Saturday, December 15, for social justice and tax, for a real democracy, for equal rights, for a true ecological transition..." the planners said in a statement, as quoted by Le Parisien.
Similar demonstrations are also expected to take place in other cities across the country.
Security officials are gearing up for the protests, with Paris Police Chief Michel Delpuech stating that tens of thousands of cops will be deployed across France, and some 8,000 in Paris.
"We need to be prepared for worst-case scenarios," he said.
Delpuech told RTL that authorities are aiming to be in "better control" of the situation than they were last weekend, when more than 125,000 people hit the streets of France, 10,000 of whom protested in Paris.
Those demonstrations saw clashes between protesters and police, with officers deploying tear gas and water cannon on people who threw Molotov cocktails, burned cars, and vandalized stores. Over 260 people were injured and 1,700 detained across the country.
Ahead of the demonstrations planned for Saturday, Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said it was time for the Yellow Vest protesters to scale down their demonstrations and accept that they had achieved their aims, as Macron has granted concessions as a result of the rallies.
