Stange story: US Forest Service employees zip-tied, held at gunpoint in California. Hostage takers wanted to talk to the FBI and were eventually arrested. No injuries. Motive not disclosed.

Siskiyou County is a large, northern California county bordering Oregon, known for its vast wilderness, outdoor recreation, and natural landmarks like Mount Shasta. Its county seat is Yreka, and the area is rich in Gold Rush history, with a strong focus on tourism, forestry, and agriculture, supported by federal and state land management agencies.

What and When:

"LATEST July 17, 2 p.m. Two U.S. Forest Service employees were zip-tied and held at gunpoint inside a trailer in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest before negotiators secured their release early Friday and officers arrested two suspects, concluding a nearly 15-hour hostage crisis that drew an FBI team from Virginia and law enforcement officers from across Northern California.

"…One of the suspects, Joseph Charles Henrichsen, 49, told authorities he had firearms and ammunition andwanted to speak with the FBI,Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue said.

"…Negotiations began around 4:20 p.m. and continued until early Friday morning, FBI Sacramento acting Special Agent in Charge Brian Tosh said. The first employee was released around 1:35 a.m., followed by the second about 15 minutes later. Both [hostages] returned home after being assessed, and officials said they had received no reports of injuries.

"Crisis situations like this don't often result in everyone leaving the scene safely," Tosh said.

Around 2:30 a.m.,Joseph Charles Henrichsen and his adult son, Phoenix Henrichsen, surrendered to authorities,LaRue said in a Friday afternoon news conference. Joseph Henrichsen was carrying an AR-15-style rifle and knives when he surrendered and had claimed to possess grenades, Tosh said.

U.S. Attorney Eric Grant said both men would be charged with kidnapping federal employees.

The Henrichsens surrendered approximately 40 minutes after the second hostage was freed. Authorities have not disclosed a suspected motive or explained why Joseph Henrichsen wanted to contact the FBI.

…The FBI led the operation with support from the Forest Service, the Siskiyou and Shasta county sheriff's offices, the California Highway Patrol, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, Homeland Security Investigations and officers from eight counties.

Shasta County sent 30 sworn and civilian personnel, including its SWAT team, sniper unit, hostage negotiators, bomb squad and drone operators, Sheriff Michael Johnson said.

The FBI also flew its Hostage Rescue Team from Quantico, Virginia, to Redding aboard a Boeing 757. Tosh said officials requested the national tactical team because the standoff could have escalated despite the perimeter established around the trailer.

"It's a national asset, and this is what they're trained to do," Tosh said.

"Victoria White seeks economic and punitive damages against Jason Bagshaw for violating her constitutional rights, including but not limited to her constitutional right to be free from unlawful seizures, her constitutional right to be free from excessive and unreasonable force, and her constitutional right not to be discriminated against for her viewpoint. Victoria White also seeks the Court to order Speaker Michael Johnson to conduct an investigation into the police brutality on January 6, 2021."

It will be interesting to see whether Speaker Johnson conducts an investigation or appeals White's lawsuit. So far, the GOP House has failed to investigate January 6th since they took power in 2022.

In order for a US Citizen to be detained as an 'enemy combatant' under AUMG (Authorized Use of Military Force) a war needed to be declared first. Yet child sexual abuse in the Boy Scouts has routinely been ignored by law enforcement and politicians. Only one state attorney general, Dana Nessel of Michigan, is investigating.
Congress has authority over the Boy Scouts; the organization was congressionally chartered in 1916. But Congress has never investigated. Even after Michael Johnson, the Scouts' former head of youth protection, wrote a letter in 2021 detailing how the institution remains unsafe for children and begging lawmakers to act, they remained quiet.
This was not the first time Congress avoided the issue. In 2018, House members wrote to the Boy Scouts asking why the organization was lobbying against child sexual abuse laws. In response, Michael Surbaugh, then the Scouts chief executive, said, "at no time in our history have we ever knowingly allowed a sexual predator to work with youth."

Joint Task Force Vulcan is a Coordinated Effort to Dismantle and Destroy MS-13

Today, President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General William P. Barr announced significant cases related to Joint Task Force Vulcan (JTFV), an initiative launched in August 2019 aimed at disrupting, dismantling, and ultimately, destroying MS-13.

President Trump and Attorney General Barr announced a number of significant cases associated with JTFV, including the first time an MS-13 member has been charged with terrorism-related offenses, a coordinated multi-district takedown of the leadership of the Hollywood clique of MS-13, and the Attorney General's decision to seek the death penalty against an MS-13 defendant.

"In 2017, the President directed the Department of Justice to go to war against MS-13, and we did just that," said Attorney General Barr. "In coordination with our partners at the Department of Homeland Security, the Justice Department's law enforcement components have successfully investigated, charged, and arrested command and control elements of MS-13 responsible for murder. Joint Task Force Vulcan's operations have significantly degraded MS-13 capabilities. While there is still work to be done, the Department of Justice remains committed to protecting Americans threatened by MS-13, and we will not rest until we have successfully defeated this transnational criminal organization."

"Today's announcements are the result of tremendous teamwork and coordination between prosecutors and law enforcement officers across the United States and Central America," said JTFV Director John Durham. "MS-13 is a violent transnational criminal organization, whose criminal activities respect no boundaries. The only way to defeat MS-13 is by targeting the organization as a whole, focusing on the leadership structure, and deploying a whole-of-government approach against a common enemy."

In an indictment unsealed yesterday, Melgar Diaz was charged in the Eastern District of Virginia with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists; conspiring to kill or maim persons overseas; conspiring to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries; conspiring to finance terrorism, and; conspiring to engage in narco-terrorism, in addition to racketeering conspiracy and drug trafficking. This is the first time that an MS-13 member has been charged with terrorism-related offenses.

Alexi Saenz was indicted in 2017 in the Eastern District of New York. It is alleged that between 2016 and 2017 he committed seven murders: the Jan. 28, 2016, murder of Michael Johnson; the April 29, 2016, murder of Oscar Acosta; the Sept. 13, 2016, murders of Kayla Cuevas and Nisa Mickens; the Oct. 10, 2016, murder of Javier Castillo; the Oct. 13, 2016, murder of Dewann Stacks, and; the Jan. 30, 2017, murder of Esteban Alvarado-Bonilla. Two of the victims were Brentwood high school students killed with a machete and baseball bat. The Attorney General has filed a Notice of Intent to Seek the Death Penalty for Saenz.

In a 24 count indictment unsealed yesterday, the Eastern District of New York, charged eight MS-13 members, including leaders of the East Coast Hollywood Program, with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) and Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering (VICAR) charges related to six murders, two attempted murders, kidnapping, narcotics, and related firearms offenses.

In a 21-count indictment unsealed yesterday in the District of Nevada, 13 MS-13 members, including leaders of the "Hollywood Locos" clique and "Los Angeles Program," were charged with various offenses including Continuing Criminal Enterprise (CCE), narcotics distribution and weapons charges.

In August 2019, Attorney General Barr created JTFV to carry out the recommendations of the MS-13 subcommittee formed under the Attorney General's Transnational Organized Crime Task Force, which was the result of President Trump's February 2017 Executive Order directing the Departments of Justice, State, and Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, to coordinate a whole-of-government approach to dismantle transnational criminal organizations, such as MS-13, and restore safety for the American people. The principal purpose of JTFV is to coordinate and lead the efforts of the Justice Department and U.S. law enforcement agencies against MS-13 in order to dismantle the group.

United States' gold medal favorite mixed 4x400 relay team disqualified in controversial fashion

TOKYO - The United States has an unfortunate history in the relay races at the Olympics, and on Friday night the mixed 4x400-meter team became part of that lore.

After winning Heat 1 in the debut of the event at the Games, the gold medal favorites were disqualified for an exchange zone foul on the first handoff, from Elijah Godwin to Lynna Irby. Irby was lined up beyond the legal exchange zone to receive the baton; the blue line for her to line up properly is about two yards before the finish line, and she was 20 meters farther down the track.

The United States appealed the decision, reportedly claiming that one of the officials lined Irby up in the wrong spot. However, it was obvious that Irby was not where she was supposed to be, and it stands to reason someone as experienced in relays as she is likely would have noticed, too.

American sprinting icon Michael Johnson, who is here as a commentator with BBC Sports, tweeted that he and others with the network noticed officials incorrectly line up two runners in the second heat, but those runners got themselves into proper position in time so they did not have a violation.

There was no decision on the appeal as of this writing. If a decision is made in USA's favor, we may see a repeat of 2016, when the American women's 4x100 team was disqualified after a bad exchange and dropping the baton. On appeal, it was agreed that Allyson Felix had been impeded by a Brazilian runner that bumped her, and the DQ was overturned. The women ran alone as a time trial, were fast enough to get into the final, and went on to win gold.

Irby was in tears as she spoke to television reporters as soon as the U.S. quartet walked off the track, but was silent when the group met with written media a few minutes later.

"We come out, we try our best, and it was a complete surprise to all of us," Godwin said. "We heard the news; all we can do is prepare for the future and see what happens next."

"We put our best into it so I'm just proud of everyone's effort," relay runner Taylor Manson said.

Mantua, UT - Everyone reading this article right now knows what it is like to have the blue and red lights pop up in your rear view mirror. The last thing going through your mind at this point is the feeling of 'being protected.' This feeling comes from the fact that the overwhelming majority of the time a driver sees police lights in their mirror is because they have been targeted for revenue collection-often the result of a quota system-and they are about to be given a ticket, or worse.

Police, we are told, are here to keep us safe and protect us from the bad guys. However, public safety all too often takes a back seat to revenue collection. Time and time again, the Free Thought Project has exposed quota schemes in which officers were punished for not writing enough tickets.

The state is has become so addicted to the endless stream of revenue generated from preying on people for victimless crimes like window tint, seat belt violations, license plate lights, expired stickers, and air fresheners, that when this revenue slows down, heads will roll. This appears to be the case in Mantua, Utah where the chief of police was reportedly fired for not writing enough tickets.

Last month, Mantua police Chief Michael Castro was summoned to a meeting with the mayor on March 25. During this meeting, he was handed a letter stating his employment with the city is now on probation. The letter accused Castro of not writing enough parking tickets and failing to answer calls for service. It was also filled with false claims which were later proven to be lies by the very people it mentioned.

"About halfway through reading it," Castro said, "I told them that I wasn't going to sign it or continue reading it because it was not accurate."

Mayor Michael Johnson then immediately fired Castro.

"I believe I was terminated because I did not go along with making my officers have a quota for citations," Castro said in an interview with FOX 13.

According to FOX 13, Mantua sits in northern Utah on a stretch of road where U.S. highways 89 and 91 merge. The speed limit on the highway is 65 mph. The town has such a reputation as a speed trap, it was a reason the Utah Legislature in 2018 passed a bill banning ticket quotas at police departments.

Castro explained that as soon as he started as chief in Mantua, the mayor and a least one other city council member would push him to write more tickets. This is the reason Castro believes is what got the town known as a speed trap.

DA: Massage parlor operators sent to prison in sex-slave investigation

A 51-year-old man, Rui Wang, and a 47-year-old woman, Junhua Wu, were the focus of a human-trafficking investigation conducted by the Anderson Police Department starting in February 2019.

A tip led police to a massage parlor in Anderson where clients paid for sexual acts, according to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office.

The eight-month investigation expanded to eight massage parlors in Shasta, Tehama and Butte counties associated with Wang's and Wu's criminal operation, as described on the DA's Facebook page.

In July, Wang pleaded guilty to one count of pandering, three counts of money laundering and one count of filing fraudulent tax returns from 2015 to 2019. On Tuesday, he was sentenced to eight years and eight months in state prison.

Also in July, Wu pleaded guilty to one count of acquiring a prostitute, one count of money laundering and one count of submitting fraudulent tax returns from the same time period of 2015 to 2019. She received a state prison sentence of two years and eight months.


Both Wang and Wu will be required to register as sex offenders for 10 years after they're released from prison, the DA's office said.

The California Franchise Tax Board helped in the investigation. As part of their sentence, the pair were ordered to pay about $1.5 million in restitution.

Anderson Police Chief Michael Johnson announced the pair's arrests in March. Police said the women at the massage parlors were expected to perform sex acts "from the time they wake up until the time they go to sleep."

Johnson described the women as indentured servants, or sex slaves, who were tricked into moving to the North State by Wang and Wu, two Chinese nationals who were living in Chico.

The Shasta County DA's office originally filed 58 felony charges against the pair.

The investigation started at Relax Massage in Anderson and spread to the other parlors that included three in Redding, two in Chico, one in Oroville and one in Red Bluff.

Investigators identified six potential victims who were Chinese women ranging in age from their 20s to 50s or 60s.

"They're promised prosperity. They're promised freedom. They're promised a future," detective Jacob Duncan said at the time. "When they come here, they're stripped of their passports … and expected to perform sex acts."

The detective said the women were living out of the massage parlors. Typically they didn't speak English very well and lacked money, had no transportation and didn't have local family or friends.

The women were offered help with housing, relocation, health screenings and immigration assistance, police said.

Now that practice is drawing strong opposition from some lawmakers, residents' families and health watchdogs, who warn that such transfers endanger residents of senior homes that are understaffed and ill-equipped to contain the spread of the coronavirus. They are calling for more state scrutiny over transfers, including stricter standards over which nursing homes should be allowed to accept COVID-19 patients from hospitals.

Currently, even poorly rated nursing homes with large and deadly clusters of coronavirus cases have been allowed to admit COVID-19 patients from hospitals. One such facility, North Ridge Health and Rehab in New Hope, has accepted 42 patients from hospitals and other long-term care facilities since mid-April even as the coronavirus has raged through its 320-bed nursing home, killing 48 of its patients and infecting scores more.

"It makes no sense to bring more COVID-19 patients into facilities that have already failed to protect them," said Sen. Karin Housley, the Republican chairwoman of the Senate Family Care and Aging Committee. "If it were my mom or dad in one of these facilities, I would be really worried."

State health officials and long-term care industry representatives have defended the practice of discharging some COVID-19 patients to nursing homes, saying it is part of a broader strategy to conserve critical hospital beds during the pandemic. Long-term care facilities can provide treatment for coronavirus patients who still need care, but have stabilized enough that they no longer require hospitalization, officials said.

So far, 11 facilities statewide have been designated as "COVID support sites," with separate units or wings to handle coronavirus patients. These specialty sites have gone through a vetting process by the state to ensure they have adequate staffing, supplies and infection-control standards.

However, other nursing homes have been allowed to admit COVID-19 patients under private arrangements with hospitals. The practice is widespread. The state Department of Health has reviewed the cases of about half the patients hospitalized for COVID-19 statewide. The agency found that 27%, or about 268 patients, were discharged to long-term care facilities since the pandemic began.

"Hospital beds are a key resource during this pandemic, and they must be preserved for those who are in need of acute care," the Minnesota Department of Health said in a statement. "For COVID-19-positive patients whose care requirements are below that level, the goal is to get them out of the hospital and into an appropriate setting for their next stage of care - one that can provide the services they do need while minimizing the risk of transmission."

But the fear that moving coronavirus patients to nursing homes might trigger more infections has been compounded by the alarming death toll in such facilities.

Statewide, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus has killed more than 600 Minnesotans at nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. That is a staggering 81% of the deaths from the pandemic statewide. No other state in the nation that reports such data has such a high percentage of deaths in long-term care, according to an analysis by a Texas-based nonprofit. Nationwide, outbreaks in long-term care facilities have claimed 33,000 lives - more than a third of all deaths nationwide, according to the Associated Press.

Graphic Video Shows Cop Nearly Shoot Fellow Officer While Killing a Suspect

Louisville, KY - Graphic body camera footage was released this week from the body cameras of two Louisville Metro Police Department officers showing the killing of 44-year-old Jessie Stringfield.

Only seconds after arriving on the scene, officer Michael Johnson of LMPD's First Division told Stringfield he was going to shoot him. Seconds after that, Johnson made good on his promise.

According to Lt. Ted Eidem of LMPD's Public Integrity Unit, an officer with the Heritage Creek Police Department was working off duty at the Dosker Manor housing complex at the 400 block of East Muhammad Ali Boulevard. While there, that officer spoke with security employees who said they had been having trouble with a man who had been threatening residents, saying he had a gun and using racial epithets, as reported by WDRB.

Police say that man was identified as Stringfield, who had an outstanding bench warrant.

As the video shows, Johnson arrives on the scene as another officer with the University of Louisville police department was getting out of his SUV.

"Freeze mother-fker!" Johnson shouts. "Get on the ground! Motherfker! Get on the ground right now!"

"Why?" Stringfield asks.

"Because I'm gonna shoot your f**king ass if you don't!" Johnson yells.

The University of Louisville officer then moves in to put Stringfield into custody and a struggle ensues. Stringfield appears to have his hands above his head before reaching back toward his hoodie pockets.

As the UL officer struggles with Stringfield, he is in the direct line of fire from Johnson's pistol. At this point, Johnson fires a single round, right in the direction of the UL officer, but striking Stringfield in the abdomen.

Stringfield immediately collapses to the ground and a gun appears about 10 feet from his body, indicating that he was likely pulling out the gun and threw or dropped it as he was killed.

The UL officer was so close to the exploding round that it appeared to have hurt or shocked him. Johnson asks the UL officer if he was alright and the officer responds that he is but he is in noticeable pain and shock as he holds his extended hand out in front of him.

Anyone who has done a lot of shooting knows that the percussion from a .40 cal round is significant. If that round is pointing in your direction, essentially at point blank, it will like feel like you were holding a firecracker in your hand as it went off. This appears to be what the officer was feeling.

"We have been reminded far too often lately just how dangerous this job of policing is," LMPD Chief Steve Conrad told reporters on an online feed.

Indeed, it did appear that these officers were in danger. Stringfield was reportedly known for carrying a pistol and it appeared that he tried to pull it out. However, while making a split second decision, the officers never attempted less than lethal force like a taser that could've prevented the loss of life.

What's more is the fact that Johnson's split second decision nearly killed his fellow officer.

According to the LMPD, Johnson has been temporarily reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation.

"The officers were fortunate with the outcome that they were able to respond quickly with the weapon on them without the two them being hurt," he said.

It is unclear as to why the department released the body camera footage and not the dash camera footage from the female officer's car. This would have shown the entire scene from a wide angle. Below are the videos.

Brian Michael Bridge, 46, of London, England, the owner of Chimera Group Ltd.; James Michael Johnson, 68, of Richmond, Virginia; and James Leonard Smith, 54, of Midlothian, Virginia, were each charged in an indictment filed in the Eastern District of Virginia with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud. Johnson and Smith made their initial appearances in Richmond today. Bridge remains at large.

The indictment alleges that Bridge - working with Johnson and Smith in the Richmond area - operated a worldwide scheme through Chimera Group Ltd. The scheme operated as an advance fee scheme which involved the defendants as promoters who promised to pay the victims a sum of money at a later date in exchange for an upfront advanced payment. Among other misrepresentations, Bridge, Johnson and Smith allegedly told potential victims that their principal payments would be protected based on letters of credit and other documents that purported to be from a large financial institution. However, these letters were fabricated, the indictment alleges. The indictment also alleges that the defendants used escrow attorneys who were themselves part of the scheme in order to give the victims the appearance that their money would remain secure until the defendants' promises had been kept. Upon receiving the victims' funds, those attorneys immediately forwarded the money out of their escrow accounts to the defendants and affiliated individuals, the indictment alleges. The indictment alleges that the defendants stole at least $6.2 million from their victims.

FORMER MISSOURI TEACHING ASSISTANT ACCUSED OF RAPING 7-YEAR-OLD BOY, ALLEGEDLY TRIED TO GET BOY AND MOM KILLED

A former Missouri teaching assistant and another man were charged Wednesday for conspiring to kill a boy and his mother.

Deonte Taylor, 36, and Michael Johnson, 66, allegedly agreed to pay a confidential individual to murder a boy and his mother. Johnson's charge said the purpose was to prevent the mom and her child from testifying in court over a sodomy case involving Taylor, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday. The agreement occurred sometime between Feb. 7 and Feb. 26.

Taylor allegedly sexually abused the then 7-year-old boy in a Hazelwood School District (HSD) elementary school's classroom on Nov. 13, 2015. The sodomy charges allege Taylor's DNA was found on the boy's body and clothes. The district fired Taylor following allegations filed to police, according to the Post-Dispatch.
HSD Director of Communications and Public Relations Kimberly McKenzie said to The Daily Caller News Foundation over the phone that Taylor was fired due to an unrelated violation of a district policy.
"He [Taylor] was terminated for reasons unrelated to the allegations because at the time he was employed or on suspension with the Hazelwood School District, he had not been charged with anything," McKenzie said.

The Ferguson-Florissant School District (FFSD) hired Taylor to work with fifth-graders shortly after being fired from HSD, but prior to charges. The district was unaware of Taylor's allegations or that he was under investigation. FFSD placed him on leave once finding out.
FFSD claimed they contacted past work references and Taylor had passed a background check, the Post-Dispatch previously reported.

"Ferguson-Florissant School District always conducts background checks during the hiring process," the district said. "This employee's criminal and child abuse/neglect background check came back clear with no indication of prior criminal history. The district would not knowingly hire a potential employee who had a record of or had committed crimes against children."

But HSD said Taylor's employment file included the allegations and termination. The file allegedly even said "do not rehire."
Taylor was charged with three counts of sodomy in November 2018. He is being held on a $150,000 bail and has been in custody at the St. Louis County Jail since the sodomy charges.

9/11 victim reportedly ID'ed 17 years later due to DNA testing
The medical examiner's office in New York reportedly revealed Wednesday that they've identified the remains of a man killed in the World Trade Center attack on Sept. 11th, 2001.

Developments in DNA analysis technology finally allowed Mark Desire, the assistant director of forensic biology at the medical examiner's office, and his team to identify a bone as belonging to Scott Michael Johnson, 26, The New York Times reported.

Johnson is the 1,642nd victim to be positively identified in the terror attacks in which 2,753 people were killed by hijackers who crashed airplanes into the Twin Towers.

After learning of the development, Ann Johnson told the outlet that she and her daughter "sat there and both cried."

"You get pulled right back into it and it also means there's a finality," she said. "Somehow I always thought he would just walk up and say, 'Here I am. I had amnesia.'"

The DRE is an extensive training scenario designed to test the overall effectiveness of the Division in its ability to perform an airborne insertion of approximately 800 paratroopers within 18-hours anywhere in the world, and the rest of the Brigade, about 3,700 troops within a time frame of 96-hours as part of the Global Readiness Force.

U.S. Army Col. Pat Work, commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division explained why the DRE exists.

"With a Deployment Readiness Exercise, we are exercising all of the systems it takes to deploy the combat potential of the United States of America on short notice," said Work.

The GRF is a rotational role that is maintained within the three Division Brigade Combat Team's; they make up the main force of the 82nd.

During the 18-hour sequence, the primary focus is to consolidate a single battalion and prepare them with the appropriate personal equipment, vehicles and medical readiness that is required for their specific mission and the location of their insertion. By the 18th hour, the battalion is prepared on the flight line at the Pope Army Airfield and ready to deploy.

By incorporating the assistance of the U.S. Airforce and civilian forces, the readiness exercise is a Joint Service Operation.

"The 82nd is the only Division Headquarters who have deployed as a Joint Task Force both historically and for future operations" stated U.S. Army Capt. Michael Johnson, deputy G3 Air (general staff of operations), 82nd Airborne Division. "Maintaining that capability for the Army is a strategic asset, and it's one of the reasons why the 82nd is so sought after for deployments and other missions."

Along with the other services, the 82nd relied heavily on the Combat Aviation Brigade for their support in the air assault missions and critical attacking points. They played a significant role in the preparation and deployment of 2nd Brigade.

After the 18-hour sequence is completed, all attention moves to finalizing the departure of the remaining 3700 troops within 96 hours to reinforce their fellow paratroopers on their assigned mission.

When the DRE began, multiple nodes were activated throughout the division. One example of the nodes include the Initial Issue of Ammunition, where each Paratrooper is issued the basic combat load of ammunition. Another node, the Parachute Issue Facility, remains vigilant in their preparedness to have the numbers of parachutes needed for the mass airborne insertion. The Heavy Drop Rigging Site node consists of specially trained paratroopers that prepare equipment, such as combat vehicles and artillery with parachutes to be airlifted to the specified location and dropped from the aircraft during the initial insertion.

"A lot of our training operations end up in utilizing the same equipment because it's easy to use, easy grab and easy to drop," said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Allais, the aerial delivery office non-commissioned officer with the 151st Quarter Masters, 82nd Sustainment Brigade, 82nd ABN Div., "Where as during a DRE, the equipment we rig is specific to what they need on the drop zone, and so changing that, throws a curveball at everyone, forcing them to react positively."

Though the main force during an immediate airborne insertion is focused and executed by the use of aircraft, much of the non-priority but necessary equipment, including the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles and Light Medium Tactical Vehicles as well as variations of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, convoyed with the assistance of local police forces to the U.S. Navy Naval Weapons Station, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. There they would be loaded and transported by ship. Other vehicles and equipment are loaded onto several flatcars at the railhead on Fort Bragg for further transportation needs.

"When you serve in the 82nd Airborne Division, when you're not in the fight, you prepare to fight," stated Work. "And one of the most valuable qualities of the paratroopers is our flexibility, our ability to go where the Nation needs us, when the Nation needs us."

Once the DRE is completed, the entire Brigade moved to execute their Field Training Exercise, which is to simulate the mission they prepared for during the DRE.

Within the training, spanning over the period of five days, paratroopers immersed themselves in multiple scenarios they might expect to encounter in a hostile environment.

Examples of their training included long-distance movements, mass casualty exercises, a scenario where they must react to a large number of casualties from within their numbers, and reaction to a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats to name a few.
