NUCLEAR ERROR Trident fiasco as Brit sub 'fired dummy missile at the United States' in first nuke test for four years
Unarmed Trident II D5 rocket, which can kill millions when fitted with warhead, experienced a serious malfunction during the practice launch off Florida
A MAJOR glitch in a test fire of Britain's Trident nuclear deterrent saw a dummy missile head towards America, it was reported last night.
The unarmed Trident II D5 missile, which can kill millions when fitted with a nuclear warhead, experienced a serious malfunction during the practice launch off Florida last June.
It was the only firing test of a British nuclear missile in four years and raises serious questions about the reliability and safety of the weapons system.
But the error was hushed up - just weeks before a crucial Commons vote on the future of the Trident missile system, The Sunday Times claimed.
The cause of the failure remains top secret but a senior naval source told the newspaper it may have veered off in the wrong direction. The source said: "There was a major panic at the highest level of government and the military.
"Ultimately Downing Street decided to cover up the failed test. The upcoming Trident vote made it all the more sensitive." The gaffe came after it was launched from nuclear-armed submarine HMS Vengeance.
It is expected Defence Secretary Michael Fallon will be called to the Commons to answer questions about the test.

The former head of the Royal Navy blasted No10 today over its 'bizarre and stupid' decision to 'cover up' a major malfunction in the UK's Trident nuclear missile deterrent and said it made Britain look like North Korea.
It was claimed last night that Downing Street imposed a 'news blackout' about the failed test just weeks before a crucial Commons vote on the future of Britain's nuclear deterrent.
Today Theresa May refused four times to say if she knew about a major malfunction in the UK's Trident nuclear missile deterrent.
But Admiral Lord West, who led the Navy from 2002-2006 and later served as a security minister, said the decision not to admit the failed test was 'extraordinary'.
The PM is facing calls to 'come clean' about what she knew about the botched test by giving a statement to Parliament tomorrow. However it is more likely to be Defence Secretary Michael Fallon who will make the statement to MPs.
A Trident II D5 missile veered off course during a test last June near the coast of Florida last June, the Sunday Times reported.
The PM was accused of omitting any reference to the failed test when the Commons voted in July to spend £31billion on four new Trident submarines.
Today she repeatedly avoided direct questions on her knowledge of the test, simply saying she had 'absolute faith in our Trident missiles'.
Lord West hit out at ministers and officials over their failure to disclose the episode and said it was probably the work of some 'silly' special adviser [Spad] trying to be 'clever'.

Ex-Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon said the matter was "too serious" for a standard leaks inquiry and said the police must be called in.

Read how the, fake news, NY Times spun it. Not truthful at all!
Major Fuckery is afoot
LONDON - Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain found herself in political hot water on Monday over reports that an unarmed Trident missile went astray during a test at sea in June, and that the government kept the incident a secret. Ms. May was initially unwilling to acknowledge that she was aware of the test when she urged Parliament in July to invest in new Trident-armed submarines. Here is a look at the weapon and concerns about a possible cover-up.
What's a Trident missile?
It is a strategic nuclear weapon: a 44-foot long ballistic missile launched from a submarine that can deliver eight nuclear warheads to targets thousands of miles away. Tridents are built by Lockheed Martin, a major American defense contractor, and are used by the American and British navies. The current generation, the Trident II D5, was first deployed in 1990, and is expected to remain in front-line service at least into the 2020s, and potentially the 2030s.
Have they had problems in the past?
The Trident II D5 is called the most reliable large missile in the world, with more than 160 successful tests over the years, according to Lockheed Martin. Most have been conducted by the United States Navy (including two tests in November). The British Navy performs them only sparingly - one every three to five years - for cost reasons: each missile is said to cost £17 million ($21 million). Failures have been rare; one expert quoted in British news reports estimated that there had been fewer than 10 failures in the weapon's history, and the British Navy is not known to have had any go awry before June 2016.
Why do they run tests of a proven missile?
It is done mostly to test the submarines that launch them. The Times of London reported that the June 2016 test was a required step in checking out a sub, H.M.S. Vengeance, that had just been refitted with upgraded computer systems and new launch equipment.
There is also said to be strategic value in reminding potential enemies that a weapons capability is still active by testing it from time to time.
Why did the failed test become a political issue?
Because Mrs. May did not reveal it when she addressed Parliament to persuade lawmakers to spend £40 billion ($49 billion) on a new generation of Trident-armed submarines that would replace Britain's aging current fleet. Though the test took place in June, before she became prime minister, her office acknowledged on Monday that she was aware of the test results when she spoke to Parliament in July.
Critics now accuse Mrs. May and her predecessor, David Cameron, of a cover-up because earlier, successful British Trident tests - in 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2012 - were routinely publicized by the Ministry of Defense, but the June 2016 test was not.
What went wrong with the test in June?
it's not clear? For fucks sake are you shitting me?
It is not clear, and the British government is not saying, beyond a statement that the test was "successfully concluded." Michael Fallon, the British defense secretary, told Parliament on Monday that because "the security of our deterrent is absolutely paramount at a time like this," he would not make public any operational details about the test.
Mr. Fallon refused to respond to news reports in Britain suggesting that the missile may have flown far off its intended course after launch. Such a failure could have resulted from bad information fed into the guidance system rather than a flaw in the missile itself.
Kimiko de Freytas-Tamura reported from London, and Patrick J. Lyons from New York. Hannah Olivennes contributed research.

Vomit and used condoms in MPs offices: Parliament's cleaners complain about partying politicians
Cleaners at the Houses of Parliament complain that they have to clear up used condoms and vomit left by unruly MPs and their aides.
MPs are reportedly to face strict new rules about their behavior. Commons authorities are considering the introduction of a 'service agreement' that would cover the appropriate use of workspaces in the Houses of Parliament, the Sunday Times report.
It's the type of behaviour you would expect from students enjoying freshers' week, not MPs and their staff," a source reported in the Sunday Times said, "but cleaners are being confronted with vomit and used condoms in offices used by MPs and their staff."
"It should be made clear that the cleaners are not there to clear up after their debauchery and this is not an appropriate use of their office space."
Westminster was rocked by sex scandals last year when the then-manager of Parliament's Sports and Social bar complained after being pestered for sex by an MP. She reported that one even followed and groped her. The bar was closed down and handed to new management following the revelations.
Additionally, numerous MPs were called out for sexual misconduct, the most prominent of which was then-Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon, who quit the cabinet after admitting his behavior towards women had "fallen short" in the past.
Fallon's colleague Damian Green also resigned from the cabinet after an internal investigation found that he had lied to colleagues over pornography found on his computer.

Britain Prepares For War Against Russia
Mon, 08/27/2018 - 03:30
Authored by Brian Cloughley via The Strategic Culture Foundation,
The headline in the UK newspaper the Daily Mail on August 7 encapsulated much that is paranoid in sad modern Britain. It read "Russian warships pass through English Channel as Putin's armed forces ratchet up pressure on the Royal Navy."
Certainly, the United Kingdom is in a state of crisis; but it isn't because of any sort of military threat. The vote to leave the European Union was a major slide down the greasy pole of decline and Time magazine summed up the debacle by pointing out that:
"At heart of this political saga is the fact that the politicians leading the Brexit "Leave" campaign - Boris Johnson chief among them - never actually explained to the British public what a vote for 'Leave' entailed. The promise of Brexit was all things to all people, which is how it managed its 52- to 48-percent victory over the 'Remain' side. Then prime minister David Cameron resigned, and it fell to his successor Theresa May to figure out what Brexit actually means."
The Brexit pantomime is taking place in an era in which it is recorded that "As benefits are cut and rents soar, Britain has seen a staggering rise in homelessness: the number of rough sleepers in England alone has more than doubled since 2010. Almost 1.2 million older people in Britain, as well as another one million disabled people, are living without the social care they need for basics such as eating, dressing and washing. It's horrific: severely ill people forced to wait 14 hours to go to the toilet or wheelchair users who, with no assistant to help them cook, are now malnourished."
But this dreadful state of affairs means nothing to those who lack for nothing - which includes politicians of the governing Conservative Party who demand that more taxpayers' money must be spent on military hardware. The previous defence minister, Michael Fallon (who had to resign because he was found out to have indulged in some sexual shenanigans), told the BBC last year that "we will be adding to defence, there will be new equipment and the budget will grow every year" and the present one, Gavin Williamson (the man who said that Russia should "go away and shut up"), demanded in June that Britain increase its annual military spending by £20 billion, or about 25 billion dollars.
The strange thing about agitating to spend more money on armaments is that, apart from an indubitable terrorist menace, there is no military threat whatever to Britain. On the other hand, there is a social crisis of the most serious magnitude. As the New York Times reported in May, "the protracted campaign of budget cutting, started in 2010 by a government led by the Conservative Party, has . . . yielded a country that has grown accustomed to living with less, even as many measures of social well-being - crime rates, opioid addiction, infant mortality, childhood poverty and homelessness - point to a deteriorating quality of life."

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has refused to divulge "operational details" of what happened during a Trident test last June.
It is reported that a missile went off course, but the government has not confirmed or denied this.
Theresa May was told about the test when she became prime minister in July, shortly before MPs voted overwhelmingly to renew Trident.
Sir Michael told the Commons he had "absolute confidence" in the system.
Labour and the SNP have urged the government to explain whether the test firing from HMS Vengeance went wrong.

Ann Widdecombe blasts 'snowflakes' over MP sex scandals
Sat, 04 Nov 2017 17:20:29 GMT
Ann Widdecombe called out "wimpish" modern women as she had her say on the Westminster sex scandal.
The former Tory frontbencher called out women speaking up against sexual harassment at Westminster, labelling them as "helpless little snowflakes."
Speaking to RT, Mrs Widdecombe said: "I can't believe women are being so wimpish, wallowing in self-pity, expecting the men always to protect us.
"This wasn't what the women's lib that I signed up to in the 70s was about. We weren't helpless little snowflakes then, we'd have dealt with any man who actually went too far or even tried to go too far.
The former MP, who represented Maidstone until 2010, was responding to the resignation of Defense secretary Sir Michael Fallon after allegations of sexual misconduct became public.
Mr Fallon admitted that his behaviour had "fallen short" of the standards expected by the troops he represented in the past.
He also admitted to repeatedly touching journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer at a dinner nearly 15 years ago.
Both parties said the matter had been resolved years ago, spurring Mrs Widdecombe to chime in saying the "world has gone completely bonkers."

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson sacked over Huawei leak
Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson has been sacked following an investigation into the leak of information from the National Security Council.
A statement said Theresa May's decision was "informed by his conduct", following an inquiry into the leak.
She had "lost confidence in his ability to serve" in his role, No 10 said.
The inquiry followed reports that ministers had raised concerns over a plan to allow Huawei limited access to help build the UK's new 5G network.
Mr Williamson has been defence secretary - his first cabinet role - since 2017 in the wake of Sir Michael Fallon's sudden resignation.
The inquiry into the National Security Council leak began after a Daily Telegraph report on warnings within cabinet about possible risks to national security over a deal with Huawei.
Huawei: The story of a controversial company
Inquiry to be held into Huawei leak
The National Security Council (NSC) is made up of senior cabinet ministers and its weekly meetings are chaired by the prime minister, with other ministers, officials and senior figures from the armed forces and intelligence agencies invited when needed.
It is a forum where secret intelligence can be shared by GCHQ, MI6 and MI5 with ministers, all of whom have signed the Official Secrets Act.
There has been no formal confirmation of Huawei's role in the 5G network and No 10 said a final decision would be made at the end of spring.
Huawei has denied there is any risk of spying or sabotage, or that it is controlled by the Chinese government.

"Secretive 'Five Eyes' club to speak openly about cyber threats"
Experts from the so-called Five Eyes intelligence agencies will appear together for the first time in the UK to discuss cyber threats.
The Five Eyes was once an almost entirely secret intelligence alliance in which the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand shared information.
Representatives from all five countries will speak openly together at Glasgow's CyberUK conference on Wednesday.
It comes amid tensions in the close-knit group over how to deal with China.
In particular, there are divisions over the role that the Chinese company Huawei should have in building next-generation 5G data networks.
The US has been campaigning hard for allies to exclude Huawei and Australia has sided with Washington.
But there are reports that the UK government has already decided to allow Huawei to participate in building some "non-core" parts of a new 5G data network.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the decision was made by Prime Minister Theresa May despite concerns being raised by the home, defence and foreign secretaries

"Huawei leak row: Government 'cannot exclude' criminal investigation"
The Daily Telegraph reported that the NSC had agreed to let Chinese firm Huawei help build the UK's 5G network.
Former defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon said the leak was "too serious" for a standard Whitehall inquiry.
Sir Michael, who was defence secretary between 2014 and 2017, said everyone who was at the meeting should be subject to a "proper Scotland Yard investigation", and it was an "offence to divulge secret information from the most secret of all government bodies, which is the National Security Council".
The NSC is made up of senior cabinet ministers. Chaired by the prime minister, it meets every week to discuss government objectives concerning national security - with other ministers, officials and senior figures from the armed forces and intelligence invited when needed.
It is a place where secret intelligence can be shared by GCHQ, MI6 and MI5 with ministers, all of whom have signed the Official Secrets Act.

"Adam Holloway: Huawei exercises state influence through private means. It is the East India Company of the modern age."
View of senior figure close to a UK intelligence agency:
You asked me what they would do in ten years time. Remember when Russia invaded Georgia? As a former bit of the Soviet Union, Georgia's infrastructure was still controlled by Russia. So the Russians just switched it off. In the same way, in the future the Chinese could just switch off large bits of our infrastructure: even now, we can no longer rely on large chunks of our strategic infrastructure to work.
In the US, a lot of people are very wary of them. Huawei have excellent equipment, but the concerns about the company's parentage and who supports them is considerable. In a tidy irony, in the UK, the Government's Chief Information Officer - John Suffolk - was tasked with carrying out an enquiry into Huawei: he is now Huawei's Global Head of Cyber Security. If that ain't a conflict of interest, I don't know what is!
A major concern is that when they get sufficient hold of the infrastructure we will have a real problem. When objections were made to their involvement in the UK, Huawei's lobbyists went straight to Cabinet Ministers. Be that as it is, this remains a large Chinese company with strong links with the Chinese government.
