"Matthew Thompson's career so far as learned at the following lengthy quotations:#* After the surrender of Charleston, South Carolina in the Revolution, the people being still in Old Pickens Block House for fear of the Indians fell short of corn when the following men were sent with wagons to Coroneaco Creek * to get a supply: Hugh PORTER, father of Alexander, Pastor of Cedar Springs Church, Jared LIDDLE, E. CRAWFORD, Andrew WHITE, Matthew Thompson, James BEARD, and SMITH–the last three being lads, one of the brothers of ANDREW PICKENS and others *. They had crossed McCORD's Creek early in the forenoon and were ascending a hill when attacked by a party of Tories under John CRAWFORD, who shot E. CRAWFORD, Hugh PORTER and Pickens on the spot, taking the other prisoners too Saluda then beyond to Cherokee Indian line and delivered them to the Indians, who put most of them to death in cold blood, including Andrew WHITE, age 17 years, reports coming back that they were burned to death. The three lads, BEARD, SMITH and Thompson were spared or escaped after being put in a ring to be shot*. "55(c). This son, Matthew Thompson, IV was of an adventurous nature. He was taking prisoner by the Indians during the Revolutionary War, and such was their cruelty to their prisoners that many of them were put to death by torture with pine fagots stuck into their bodies and set on fire. Having witnessed the scenes so often in camp, and believing that the time had come for his death, from the preparation his captors were making, Matthew feigned illness and on that account was allowed to pass in and out of camp under guard. He secured a bridle, hid it in his bosom, then selected the best horse in camp. The first opportunity that presented itself, he mounted his chosen steed and dashed away, amidst a shower of shot and lead, being pursued by the savages for 4 days and nights together. Such was the nature of the country that a horse could be tracked by the grass in the woods, and he had to conceal himself in the daytime and travel by night. As an aid to him in his travels, he would feel the bark of the trees to indicate to him the direction, North or South, and by star light he traveled for nine nights. At times he traveled in water courses, to evade his pursuers, and after nine days and nights, living on the curls of grape vines, buds and barks of trees, he succeeded in safely reaching his friends. It is not recalled whether he married or not*** and save the thrilling adventures next hereinbefore outlined little is known of him.

British pedophile allowed to jet off for pre-paid Greece vacation before sentencing
A British pedophile who admitted assaulting two young girls will be allowed to jet off on a week-long vacation to an exotic Greek island before his sentencing, a judge said Wednesday.
Matthew Thompson, 48 - who pleaded guilty to 10 offenses, including assault of a child by penetration and taking indecent photographs - can fly Thursday to Kos for the pre-paid trip, Bradford Crown Court Judge Jonathan Gibson said.
Through his lawyer, Thompson had asked for permission to go to the vacation hotspot before his sentencing on Nov. 18 under the condition that he checks in with police when he gets back, the BBC reported.
Despite Thompson admitting to the vile crimes, the judge said his bail should not be revoked because he was "honest."
"You've pleaded guilty and you will of course get proper credit for your guilty pleas in due course when you're sentenced," Gibson said. "You've been on bail and I'm not going to revoke your bail simply because you have entered honest pleas."
The bail condition requires Thompson, of Barnsley, England, to register as a sex offender before he leaves and report to the Barnsley police after he returns home on Oct. 27.

Sparrow Health settles lawsuit with infection control whistleblower: 5 things to know
Written by Brian Zimmerman | March 28, 2018 | Print | Email
Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health System reached an agreement with a former nurse anesthetist who filed a lawsuit in February against the system, alleging he was fired after raising concerns regarding a colleague's infection control practices, according to a report from Lansing State Journal.
Here are five things to know.
1. Attorneys representing the health system and Jonnie Vanderhoef, MSN, reached an agreement March 26. Neither party disclosed details of the settlement.
2. Ilene Cantor, vice president for Sparrow marketing and communications, confirmed the resolution March 27.
"We thank Mr. Vanderhoef for speaking up and appreciate his dedication to patient safety, one that we deeply share," said Ms. Cantor in a statement, according to the Lansing State Journal. "Resolution allows us to continue to move forward, with our focus on putting patient safety first and ensuring excellent, quality healthcare for all those we serve."
3. In the suit, Mr. Vanderhoef said he first complained about the infection control practices of Raymond Allard, DO, an orthopedic surgeon at Sparrow Carson Hospital in Carson City, as early as May 8, but these complaints went unaddressed.
4. On Nov. 3, hospital leaders confronted Mr. Vanderhoef about pictures he had of a patient's surgical site infection and subsequently fired him. Mr. Vanderhoef alleged he'd received the photos of the infection from one of Dr. Allard's patients.
5. Days after Mr. Vanderhoef filed the lawsuit Feb. 1, CMS threatened to revoke the hospital's Medicare funding if it didn't resolve infection control issues identified by investigators in December. On Feb. 13, Dr. Allard voluntarily suspended his medical staff privileges at the hospital. On Feb. 16, Sparrow Carson's former President and CEO Matthew Thompson vacated his position. Barb McQuillan, BSN, RN, chief nursing officer and COO, who the lawsuit alleges was involved in Mr. Vanderhoef's firing, left her post in early March.

BELL ~ BAEL
Sir John Bell
Sir John Irving Bell GBE FRS FMedSci FREng[1] (born 1 July 1952)[2] is a Canadian immunologist and geneticist.[3] From 2006 to 2011, he was President of the United Kingdom's Academy of Medical Sciences, and since 2002 he has held the Regius Chair of Medicine at the University of Oxford.[4] He was since 2006 Chairman of the Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCHR) but as of 2020 is just a normal member.[5] Bell was selected to the Vaccine Taskforce sometime before 1 July 2020.[6] Bell is also on the board of directors of the SOE quango Genomics England.
Education and career
Bell was born in Edmonton, Alberta, where his parents worked in haematology and pharmacy. He attended Ridley College in St. Catharines, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1975, and then studied medicine on a Rhodes Scholarship at Magdalen College, Oxford.[4] In 1982, he took up a position as Clinical Fellow in Immunology with Hugh McDevitt at Stanford University, where he worked on histocompatibility antigens and autoimmune disease.[4][7][8]
In 1987 Bell returned to Oxford as a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow, and joined the Institute of Molecular Medicine, founded by David Weatherall. In 1992 he succeeded Weatherall as the Nuffield Professor of Clinical Medicine and, in 2002, became the Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford, also after Weatherall. In 1994, Bell was one of the founders of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at Oxford University.[4][7] He is an emeritus fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford.[9] Bell is also the senior member of the Oxford University Women's Boat Club Executive Committee[10] and is a member of the Governing Body of Christ Church, Oxford.[11] He sat on the Council of the Medical Research Council between 1998 and 2003.[12][13] Since 2011, Bell has been one of two Life Sciences Champions for the UK.
Directorships, consulting and charity positions
Bell has been a non-executive director of Roche since 2001.[14] A BMJ campaign to make the results of unpublished studies on the anti-influenza drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu) available to researchers led to the journal's editor Fiona Godlee urging Bell "as an internationally respected scientist and clinician and a leader of clinical research in the United Kingdom, to bring your influence to bear on your colleagues on Roche's board."[15] Roche subsequently agreed to a wide policy of data transparency in clinical trials. Matthew Thompson and Carl Heneghan wrote in a letter to the journal "...according to Roche's 2011 financial report, John Bell received 390?000 Swiss Francs (£260?450; ?322?450; $420?000) last year for his role on the board of directors. What do Roche and its shareholders expect for this level of involvement and remuneration?"[16][17] The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report on the subject broadly supported the release of more clinical trial data but urged caution on public release of individual patient data.
