HOW BILL AND HILLARY RAISED AND EARNED MILLIONS FROM CANADA'S CORPORATE ELITE

Through his personal charitable vehicle, the Radcliffe Foundation, Mr. Giustra has donated $66.4-million (Canadian) directly to the Clinton Foundation, ranking him in the top five of all donors. He also drummed up about $20-million in donations from high rollers in the investment community at a lavish 60th birthday party in 2006 for Mr. Clinton.

Mr. Giustra did not stop there. The following year, he came up with the idea of creating the Canadian arm of the foundation, the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership (Canada), through which he has contributed a further $35.4-million.

The Canadian arm of the Clinton Foundation - the brainchild of Mr. (Frank) Giustra and known as the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership - has poured more than $35-million (U.S.) into eradicating poverty in parts of the developing world where many of the mining companies he helped finance do business.

The list of individuals and corporations with whom the Clintons have done business in the 16 years since they left the White House is a long one. The Clinton Foundation counts some of Canada's best-known corporations - auto parts giant Magna International Inc.; mining company Barrick Gold Corp.; and Toronto-Dominion Bank - among its large donors.

Many wealthy individuals have also supported the charity. To take three examples: Lukas Lundin, chairman of the TSX-listed mining company that bears his name, donated $1-million to $5-million. Another $500,000 to $1-million came from Toronto real estate executive Michael Cooper, whose companies own a collection of prize office properties in Canada, including 50 per cent of Toronto's Scotia Plaza. TD deputy chairman Frank McKenna, who was Canada's ambassador to Washington when George W. Bush was president, kicked in $100,000 to $250,000. (The disclosures come in ranges, rather than stating exactly how much an individual donated.)

Bill and Hillary Clinton have been paid a total of $12.4-million (U.S.) for giving speeches in Canada since leaving the White House in 2000.

In the proposed 2012 contract, the organizers expected a speech and at least one photograph each with the leaders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo [a separate country], which appeared to be splitting the princely honorarium.

Forbes contributor Richard Miniter details the corruption in the Congo and draws a connection to another very generous donor to the Clinton Foundation.

The author reminds us of the case of Lundin Mining. Swedish investor Lukas Lundin donated between $1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation between 2007 and 2013. The Foundation only reports ranges, not specific amounts.

Lundin Group pledged another $100 million to the Clinton Foundation, according to a 2007 Clinton Foundation press release.

Lundin Mining has substantial operations in the Congo. A partner of Lundin in its Congo operations, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, gave the Clinton Foundation as much as $500,000, according documents released by the foundation that present its contributions in the $250,000-$500,000 range.

In 2010, the State Department under Hillary Clinton, entered into talks with the Congo over a dispute with Lundin and Freeport-McMoran.

As a result, the Congo gave up its efforts to seize some of the world's most lucrative copper mines from Lundin and his partners in exchange for increasing its share of the profits by less than 3%.

Prince Bandar uses or used a bank called Riggs Bank. Riggs Bank was favoured by past Presidents, 2 of the 9/11 attackers and was the bank BAE Systems paid money into to make Saudi bribes. In 2005 it was reported that Riggs Bank had connections to the CIA. The reporting on this was done by a Glenn Simpson which I assume is the same Simpson of Fusion GPS fame.

Around the time of the reporting on Riggs Bank it was bought by PNC Bank. PNC Bank happens to be the biggest shareholder in Blackrock as far as I can tell. Blackrock have many investments. One of those investments is in Sinopec - a Chinese state backed fossil fuel company. Sinopec has oil extraction rights in north eastern Syria. I believe those rights are a bit troubled at the moment due to the civil war. Sinopec acquired the extraction rights when they bought a Swedish-Canadian company called Tanganykia Oil. The chairman and director of Tanganyika Oil before it was sold to the chinese was Lukas Lundin. In 2008 Lundin pledged to donate $100m to the Clinton Foundation in order to match a pledge by Frank Giustra. Note this isn't paid, just pledged. Perhaps the Clinton Foundation deal is that you pledge a cut of future revenues the Clintons help you achieve?

Former UK Chancellor George Osborne has paid positions in both the McCain Institute and at Blackrock. Cheryl Mills, who has been a long time Clinton advisor, is on the board of Blackrock.
