ATLANTA - Officials at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are investigating how a man was able to get into a secured area of the airport and board a plane.
It started on Jan. 6 when Terence Stewart allegedly got over the razor wire fence surrounding the perimeter of the airport, according to police.
After breaching the secured area, officials say Stewart hopping into a Delta vehicle and started driving around the airport.
Stewart reportedly ditched the vehicle and decided to board a Southwest Plane, coming face to face with a staffer inside the cockpit.

Atlanta police confirm a security breech at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A man went over a fence and got on board a parked airliner, coming face-to-face with a staffer in the cockpit, police say.
ATLANTA - Officials at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are investigating how a man was able to get into a secured area of the airport and board a plane.

Former prosecutor Keith Martin described the situation as "dangerous."
"You're talking about the potential of a vehicle that could probably run 40 to 60 miles an hour hitting an airplane," Martin said. "I don't know how much damage it would do, but it would be a lot."
Fortunately, the incident occurred overnight when fewer jets are operating.
"The fact that could he could get an airline vehicle or any vehicle on the property unauthorized is troubling," Martin said.
Before it was all over and Stewart was placed in handcuffs, he reportedly was able to drive another Delta vehicle.
The Department of Aviation responded with a statement when FOX 5 reached out with questions about the incident.
"Airport employees followed protocol as directed and challenged the suspect to present his credentials, reported him to 911, maintained a safe distance while keeping him in sight, and provided information to Atlanta police officers responding to the incident," a Hartsfield-Jackson spokesperson told FOX 5.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Stewart is now facing several charges including criminal trespassing and theft.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment today charging former Michigan resident Ylli Didani, 43, with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, announced Acting United States Attorney Saima S. Mohsin.
Mohsin was joined in the announcement by Special Agent in Charge Keith Martin, Drug Enforcement Administration, Detroit Division, Christopher Perry, Director of Fields Operation, US Customs and Border Protection, Acting Special Agent in Charge Kelly Lewis, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations and Chief Jeff King, Farmington Hills Police Department.
Acting US Attorney Mohsin stated, "This is a very significant and important prosecution of a large scale, well-organized drug trafficking organization involved in the distribution of thousands of kilograms of cocaine worth tens of millions of dollars, across multiple continents. I salute the entire law enforcement team who labored so tirelessly on this case, from prosecutors to police officers, federal agencies to local police departments. Their efforts culminated in today's indictment and demonstrate cooperation and teamwork at its best."
Special Agent Martin stated, "This indictment of a major cocaine trafficker is the result of a joint investigation with law enforcement partners from around the globe. Our combined efforts should send a clear message to drug traffickers everywhere that you will be held accountable for your crimes."
Director Perry stated, "The complexity of this case, which involved so many law enforcement partners throughout the region is a testament to the importance of cooperation among agencies. I'm proud of efforts of our CBP personnel, along with our federal, state, and local partners who played an important role in reaching this indictment."

The Farmington Hills Police Department is extremely proud of our investigator and his tireless commitment toward disrupting and indicting a large scale-international drug trafficking organization."
As alleged in the indictment, Didani and other unindicted co-conspirators planned and financed the distribution of cocaine from several locations including the Eastern District of Michigan. According to the Indictment, in two transactions that occurred in June 2016 and December 2017, Didani received at least $550,000 from other co-conspirators for the purpose of purchasing bulk cocaine. Allegedly, Didani and other co-conspirators used several means of transportation, including private aircraft and commercial containerships, for purposes of obtaining and distributing the cocaine throughout Europe.
According to a criminal complaint that was unsealed on April 1, 2021, following Didani's arrest on March 31, 2021 in Charlotte North Carolina, it is alleged that Didani was the leader of an international drug trafficking organization with ties to the United States, Mexico, South America, and Europe. The complaint also alleges that in 2017, a co-conspirator in Didani's organization was overseeing the design of an underwater drone that would be utilized to transport large quantities of cocaine to Europe. The drone, which was going to be equipped with an underwater modem and GPS antenna, would transport the cocaine while attached to the bottom of a commercial containership. The drone would then be remotely released from the containership off the shore of Europe. The drone and cocaine would then be picked up by a fishing boat controlled by Didani's organization.
The criminal complaint further alleges that Didani arranged the distribution of several shipments of cocaine from South America to Europe, where the cocaine was seized by law enforcement. In 2019 and 2020, Law enforcement seized over 3400 kilograms of cocaine from Didani's organization. The seized cocaine has a street value of over $100,000,000.00.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely a charge and should not be considered as evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

'Impossible' breakthrough sees scientists successfully regrow optic nerve cells

Scientists have successfully regenerated damaged optic nerve cells from mice by stimulating production of a certain protein, providing hope for breakthrough treatments of numerous human eye diseases.
The research constituted "the strongest regeneration of any technique we've used before," said ophthalmologist Keith Martin from the University of Melbourne in Australia. Martin added that the task of regenerating the optic nerve previously seemed "impossible."
Mature nerve fibers lose their ability to regenerate following an injury or as a result of damage sustained through disease. The researchers wanted to see whether gene therapy focusing on reactivating part of nerve cells' regenerative capabilities, a protein known as protrudin, might help turn the lights back on.
By stimulating production of this protein, the researchers were successfully able to regenerate nerve cell tissue, while also staving off damage by treating optical nerve cells taken from mice by preventatively treating them with protrudin therapy.
Firstly, the researchers treated optical nerve cells in a dish in a lab to ramp up production of protrudin. These cells were then cut with a laser after which they managed to regrow further and faster than untreated cells.
After this success, researchers administered the gene therapy to mice, by injecting the genetic instructions to increase protrudin production directly into the animals' eyes. Within just a few weeks, the treated mice had more surviving nerve cells than the control group, showing the preventative properties of the treatment to fight off nerve damage.
In one final experiment, researchers removed treated retinas from mice subjects to see if the protrudin boost could stave off the death of nerve cells, for a time at least.
Three days after the retinas were removed, the researchers found that the boosted protrudin production had been almost "entirely neuroprotective, with these retinas exhibiting no loss of [retinal] neurons," compared with an expected loss of roughly 50 percent of the retinal neurons.
It has yet to be determined whether protrudin injections would, in fact, restore sight in mice, let alone humans.
Researchers will now attempt experiments with human retinal cells in vitro while continuing their research with the mice. They are also examining possible applications for treating spinal cord injuries.
"It's possible that increased or activated protrudin might be used to boost regeneration in the injured spinal cord," said Veselina Petrova, a neuroscience student at the University of Cambridge.
Previous research in 2012 and 2016, managed to regenerate nerves in certain areas of the eye but this latest research adds to a growing body of work which furthers our understanding of the human eye, adding to an ever-growing arsenal of treatments which could restore sight to many of the world's blind.

Gun Store Sells 80,000 Rounds Of Ammo In 30 Minutes After Opening
A gun store chain has reported that it sold more than 80,000 rounds of ammo in just the first half hour after opening.
The Northwest Indiana Times reported that Blythe's Sport Shops, which had locations in Valparaiso and Griffith, Indiana, had a shipment of 80,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition come in on election day. It was reportedly gone in just 30 minutes.
The store's chief operating officer, Kyle Goranson, told the local outlet that the ammo, which is widely used in semi-automatic pistols like the Glock 17, Springfield XD, and Beretta 92, has not been the only type that has been hard to find. Shotgun slugs, used for hunting big game, also have been hard to find.
Goranson noted that many people had become first-time gun buyers during the pandemic this spring and the civil unrest over the summer, according to the Times.
"We have had no official specific information of any organized plans of civil unrest in our area regardless of election results. Of course we will keep our eyes and ears open at all levels, and our agencies will continue to work together should any issues arise," Keith Martin of the Griffith Police Department told the outlet.
Goranson told the Times that he has ordered more ammunition.

Colts Neck fire: Keith Caneiro brother Paul was first hire for fledgling tech business
When Keith Caneiro needed help to keep up with his fledgling technology business, he hired his brother, Paul, as his first employee.
Back then, he went by the name Keith Martin, using his middle name as his last name professionally. The company was based in Brooklyn. And it had just landed a big client - installing computer networks for Citibank.
"If I worked 10 days a week, I would never be able to finish (the) projects that I had," he told the Asbury Park Press in a 2001 business profile.
Keith Caneiro now is at the center of a baffling mystery. He was found Tuesday shot to death outside his mansion in Colts Neck. His wife, Jennifer, and their two children were found slain inside their home. And the home was on fire.
Paul's home in Ocean Township also was the scene of an early-morning fire on Tuesday. Paul was charged with arson Wednesday in connection to the fire at his home.
The smell of fire wafted into neighbors' yards on nearby Evergreen Lane in Colts Neck on Wednesday morning. County emergency response vehicles remained at the scene, and dozens of firefighters stood outside the white home - its windows charred.
Inna Volshteyn's house on Evergreen Lane abuts the Caneiros' property. Her daughter went to school with the Caneiro's children and was a grade younger than the Caneiro's daughter. They celebrated birthdays together and trick-or-treated each others' homes, she said.
Jennifer Caneiro was beautiful and always smiling, Volshteyn said.
On Tuesday, the day of the fire, Volshteyn said, her groundskeepers notified her husband there was fire at the Caneiros' home. Her husband went to the house and found the victims inside, calling 911, Volshteyn said.
On Wednesday morning, the Caneiros' children were not waiting for the school bus, Volshteyn said.
"It was strange," she said.

Parents arrested after 10-month-old was 'repeatedly abused,' had dozens of rib fractures, Griffith police say
Two Griffith parents were arrested after a 10-month-old boy was "repeatedly abused" and had nearly three dozen rib fractures and hemorrhaging, police said.
Rebekah Davis, 31, and Cashmere Mack Jones, 24, were each charged Friday in Lake Superior Court with neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, court records show.
Griffith police and Indiana Department of Child Services were called Monday to Community Hospital in Munster after a baby was brought in with "multiple injuries in which child abuse was suspected," a probable cause affidavit states.
Due to the extent of the juries, the baby was taken to the trauma unit at Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, court records state.
The boy had 35 rib fractures "of varying ages," significant brain injuries, upper leg fractures, extensive bruising, blunt abdominal trauma and extensive retinal hemorrhages, the affidavit states.
The injuries were indicative of Shaken Baby Syndrome and with being grabbed, Commander Keith Martin, Griffith police spokesman, said. The fractured ribs "are healing and could be weeks old," according to the affidavit.
"There is no question of his diagnosis, he is a victim of repetitive abuse involving numerous mechanisms," the affidavit states, and "this poor child was horrifically abused over a period of time."
"Sadly, his prognosis is very grim," the affidavit states.
The child remains in the hospital in "critical condition with serious internal and external injuries," Martin said.
Jones and Davis were arrested Thursday at their Griffith home, Martin said.
"Neither parent admitted to any abuse of the child or to noticing any significant bruising or marking of the child," Martin said.
The parents claimed "an obvious bruise on the child's jaw was due to striking himself with a rattle," police said. They also said "the child may have suffered an injury months ago when falling off of a bed, or by sleeping on his bottle," according to Martin.
"When speaking of the episode which cause them to bring the baby to the hospital, Jones never attempted to call 911 but was administering CPR for appriximately 45 minutes," Martin said.
Jones called Davis "who told him to take the baby to the baby's grandfather who was present in the home and the decision was ultimately made to take the baby to the hospital," police said.
"Doctors specializing in child abuse indicated that the statements made by the parents are inconsistent with the injuries of which they have observed on the child," Martin said.
There was "no known medical care sought to treat the injuries which could have been life threatening," he said.
Jones would take care of the child while Davis worked, court records state. Family members said Jones would tell the child to "shut the (expletive) up" and "would get angry when the child would wake him," the affidavit states.
Four other children who have a different father were living at the home at the time and have since been removed by Child Protective Services, Martin said.
"There is no indication of abuse or neglect in the other children," he said.
