On Thursday, journalist Bari Weiss began tweeting out the second installment of the "Twitter Files," which confirmed that employees at the social media platform did build blacklists and participated in shadow banning for years, despite the public comments of former CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey.

Dorsey wrote on Twitter in 2018, "A short thread addressing some issues folks are encountering as a result of our conversational health work, specifically the perception of 'shadowbanning' based on content or ideology. It suffices to say we have a lot more work to do to earn people's trust on how we work."

"We don't shadow ban, and we certainly don't shadow ban based on political viewpoints. We do rank tweets by default to make Twitter more immediately relevant (which can be flipped off)," Dorsey added.

Weiss' reporting shows that Twitter did shadow ban under the moniker of "Visibility Filtering," and tagged users in various ways to execute these bans.?

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was tagged with a "Do Not Amplify" tag. Talk show host Dan Bongino was tagged with a "Search Blacklist" tag which had a similar suppressive consequence.

Several users have commented on Dorsey's years' old tweet. Tim Young wrote, "Oh see… it wasn't 'shadow banning' because they called it 'visibility filtering,' even though it was the exact same thing."

Some called Dorsey out for lying.

Dorsey linked to an article co-written by former Twitter Head of Legal, Police, and Trust Vijaya Gadde titled "Setting the record straight on shadow banning." In that article she wrote with Twitter co-founder Kayvon Beykpour, "People are asking us if we shadow ban. We do not. But let's start with, 'what is shadow banning?' The best definition we found is this: deliberately making someone's content undiscoverable to everyone except the person who posted it, unbeknownst to the original poster."

But that is what they did through a manipulation of the algorithm that would cause tweets to trend and become promoted through tags such as "Do Not Amplify" and "Search Blacklist."

The first round of Twitter files confirmed that the social media company censored stories and interfered in American elections, especially centered around the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story and Gadde played a key role in that move.

WILMINGTON, Del-Twitter Inc. needs to give Elon Musk documents from a former Twitter executive who Musk said was a key figure in calculating the amount of fake accounts on the platform, according to a Monday court order.

Bot and spam accounts on Twitter have become a central issue in the legal fight over whether Musk, who is Tesla Inc.'s chief executive, must complete his $44 billion acquisition of the social media company.

Twitter was ordered to collect, review and produce documents from former General Manager of Consumer Product Kayvon Beykpour, according to the order from Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick of the Delaware Court of Chancery.

Twitter and lawyers for Musk, the world's richest person, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Beykpour, who left Twitter after the social media company agreed in April to be acquired by Musk, was described in Musk's court filings as one of the executives "most intimately involved with" determining the amount of spam accounts.

Beykpour did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent through LinkedIn.

McCormick said in her order on Monday that she was denying Musk's request for access to 21 other people with control over relevant information.

Musk's legal team had written to McCormick last week asking her to order Twitter to hand over employee names so they could be questioned.

Musk accused Twitter earlier this month of fraud for misrepresenting the number of real active users on its platform, which Twitter has denied. The company has accused him of breaching his agreement to acquire the company and wants McCormick to order him to complete the deal at $54.20 a share.

Twitter's stock closed up 0.5 percent at $44.50 per share on Monday.

Twitter's executive ranks continued to thin out Tuesday after three senior managers quit as the company has been thrown into turmoil by Elon Musk's looming $44 billion takeover.

Ilya Brown, a vice president of product management; Katrina Lane, a vice president of Twitter service, and Max Schmeiser, the head of data science, all handed in their resignations, according to Bloomberg News.

"We are thankful for all of their hard work and leadership," a Twitter spokesperson told Bloomberg.

"We continue to be focused on providing the very best experience to the people on Twitter."

The departures come less than a week after Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal ousted two top executives - Kayvon Beykpour, the company's general manager, and Bruce Falck,Twitter's head of revenue.

Bloomberg reported:

Twitter Inc. is losing three more senior employees, including two vice presidents, a reflection of the uncertainty inside the social media company as staffers wait for Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition to close.

Ilya Brown, a VP of product management; Katrina Lane, VP of Twitter Service; and Max Schmeiser, head of data science, are all leaving the company, according to internal memos described to Bloomberg. All three chose to exit on their own, according to the memos.

Last Thursday Twitter fired two senior executives amid Elon Musk's buyout of the tech giant.

Bruce Falck, Twitter's revenue and product lead and Twitter general manager, Kayvon Beykpour were fired.

One of the executives was on paternity leave when Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal told him he was fired.

Twitter is facing potentially devastating lawsuits for claiming less than 5% of its users were fake or bots in its filings with the SEC. To report lies to the SEC is enough to take down any company and cause it to go bankrupt. If investors make decisions based on a company's financials, which they do, if found to be false, a company could be taken out.

The Twitter executives quit as Project Veritas released undercover video of a senior Twitter engineer lashing out at Elon Musk and admitting the tech giant doesn't believe in free speech.

Elon Musk saw Project Veritas' undercover video of the Twitter engineer bragging about censoring conservatives and discussing the internal revolt against Musk.

"Is this legit?" Musk said in a tweet responding to the undercover video.

Two top executives leaving Twitter after Musk deal

Two of Twitter's top leaders announced Thursday they are leaving the company as it prepares for Elon Musk's impending takeover.

Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter's general manager of consumer product, will be replaced by Jay Sullivan, who has held that role on an interim basis.

"Interrupting my paternity leave to share some final @twitter-related news: I'm leaving the company after over 7 years," Beykpour, the co-founder of Periscope, tweeted.

"The truth is that this isn't how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and this wasn't my decision. Parag asked me to leave after letting me know that he wants to take the team in a different direction," he continued, referring to Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal.

Bruce Falck, the company's general manager for revenue, also announced his departure Thursday.

"I wanted to take a moment to thank all the teams and partners I've been lucky enough to work with during the past 5 years," Falck said, adding in a thread that he too was let go by Agrawal.

The departure of the two general managers comes after Elon Musk struck a deal last month to buy Twitter for $44 billion.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has criticized some of Twitter's top executives publicly since that deal was announced, mostly boosting allegations that the platform has moderated content unevenly and was biased against conservative voices.

Twitter Tests New Dislike Feature, But Won't Show Number of Dislikes on Tweets

Twitter claims the number of dislikes would not effect the order of replies

Twitter is testing out a new dislike feature for iOS users, although the number of dislikes will not show up on a tweet. Twitter has also claimed it is a downvote, not a dislike button.

The announcement about the dislike button was made by Twitter via the official Support account on Wednesday. "Some of you on iOS may see different options to up or down vote on replies," the tweet read. "We're testing this to understand the types of replies you find relevant in a [conversation], so we can work on ways to show more of them."

The accompanying photo included a number of variants being tested, including replacing the current heart-shaped like button with a thumbs up and an up arrow, and then including a complementary down arrow or dislike button respectively, and another version where the current like button stayed the same, but a downvote button was also included.

From the language included in the tweet, it suggests that Twitter would be using the number of dislikes or downvotes to further filter out replies - Twitter currently hides some tweets, even those with innocuous language, behind a "see more" filter. However, in a reply, Twitter claimed that votes would not change the order of replies. They also claimed that it was not a "dislike" button, although it is not exactly clear how that could be the case if they included the dislike design.

Twitter also noted that the downvotes or dislikes would not be public, and would be only visible to the users who took the action. If this is the case, it is even more confusing as to why Twitter would include such a button in the first place, as it would be rendered pointless if it did not affect either the order of replies or show the amount of dislikes.

The first instance of a Twitter employee declaring that they were working on a downvote or dislike feature was from November last year, when Kayvon Beykpour, the product lead at Twitter, responded to a critique of Twitter's developmental priorities from Jackie Singh, a cybersecurity expert for the Biden campaign, saying that they were exploring it. The dislike button request from Singh came along with demands for Twitter to remove "disinformation" and improve "harassment and reporting" features.

Twitter's announcement of a dislike button that would not show numerical data beside it comes as YouTube, a fellow Big Tech organisation, was caught scrubbing dislikes from the White House's channel, despite later claiming that these were "spam" dislikes. Videos from the White House have received an overwhelming amount of dislikes despite this.

Twitter Adds New Restrictions To Crack Down On Spam, 'Misinformation' Ahead Of Election Day

Following in the footsteps of Facebook, which last month announced plans to launch its long-promised "oversight board" before Nov. 3, Twitter has announced that it's planning a raft of measures, including making it more difficult for tweets to go viral ahead of the vote, to ensure that social media doesn't contribute to any election day violence.

According to a blog post published around noon on Friday, one of the 'speed bumps' being implemented by twitter will prompt users to add a "comment" when they go to share - or retweet - a tweet. The move is designed to slow the rapid-fire retweeting of others" - a behavior that President Trump, one of the world's most famous Twitter users, has occasionally exhibited.

Twitter's recommendations and trends features will see "new curbs" added to try and prevent abuse.

"Twitter has a critical role to play in protecting the integrity of the election conversation, and we encourage candidates, campaigns, news outlets and voters to use Twitter respectfully and to recognize our collective responsibility to the electorate to guarantee a safe, fair and legitimate democratic process this November," company officials said in a blog post - written by Vijaya Gadde, the Legal, Policy and Trust & Safety Lead at Twitter, and Kayvon Beykpour, its product lead - published at noon Friday.

Politicians, including President Trump, will be subjected to new restrictions if they start to share "falsehoods" according to Twitter. If they continue sharing "false" information - aka information that challenges the Democratic narrative - the accounts will be hit with "additional warnings and restrictions".

Twitter will also intervene to block any premature claims of victory. Any tweet deemed to "interfere" in the electoral process, according ot a panel of moderators, could be removed. Starting Friday, new limits on content from people users don't follow will be imposed in an effort to help SJWs avoid that sting of discomfort that comes when their views are challenged in any way.
