Tech giant Apple, Inc. has parted ways with Jony Ive, a longtime designer with the company known for helping create the company's ever-iconic multicolored iMac line first released in the late 1990s.
Ive, who also helped with the design of the iPhone and the Apple Watch, had earlier left his full-time position with the company in order to start his own firm, though both Ive and Apple promised to continue working together with Ive in a consultatIve role.
Sources told the New York Times this week, however, that Ive has now fully left the company to focus on his own venture, LoveFrom.
The iMac that Ive helped design in the late 90s brought about an economic revival for Apple, whose fortunes had been flagging prior to the iMac and the return of its longtime charismatic frontman, Steve Jobs.
The iMac's all-in-one features and its dazzling multicolored exteriors also helped usher in a reorientation of much of the home computing industry, with copycats and competitors springing to imitate Apple's sleek, consumer-oriented design features following the computer's major
success.https://justthenews.com/nation/technology/apple-parts-ways-Jony-Ive-lege

Ready for some FOMO?
Barry Diller threw a bash for wife Diane von Furstenberg's 73rd birthday on New Year's Eve aboard their $200 million yacht, Eos, in St. Barts, we're told.
Guests included Leonardo DiCaprio and girlfriend Camila Morrone, photographer Jean Pigozzi, billionaire Nicolas Berggruen, "Inglourious Basterds" producer Lawrence Bender and Eugenia Kuzmina.
Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich held his annual bash, this time taking place aboard his $500 million yacht, Eclipse. The party has attracted A-list names like Prince and Paul McCartney in the past.
We hear the best late-night bash was thrown on another yacht by former chief design officer for Apple, Jony Ive, which, we're told, drew a number of models.
The talk of the town though, says our source, is billionaire financier Nat Rothschild's $100 million superyacht, Planet Nine, mooring up. We're told the boat has been creating a buzz due to its different look since it is built to cut through ice - making its appearance a rare sight on the sunny isle.

Apple has a new global supply chain boss - this anecdote about how he handled a meeting with Tim Cook shows why he's the perfect man for the job
On the same day Apple announced its longtime chief designer Jony Ive would leave to form his own company, it also announced another move: the promotion of Sabih Khan, an Apple veteran of 24 years, to be the company's new senior VP of operations.
Khan will report to Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer.
"I've been privileged to work with Sabih for more than 20 years, and you won't find a more talented operations executIve anywhere on the planet," Williams said in Apple's press release announcing the news.
As SVP of operations, Khan will be responsible for overseeing Apple's global supply chain, which gathers and processes materials to build the company's computers and smartphones.

Apple design chief Jony Ive, Steve Jobs' confidant, to leave and start own firm
(Reuters) - Jony Ive, a close creatIve collaborator with Apple Inc co-founder Steve Jobs whose iPhone and other designs fueled Apple's rise to a $1 trillion company, will leave later this year to form an independent design company. Apple said Ive will continue work on its products at his new venture, but shares fell as much as 1.5% to $197.44 in after-market trading, wiping about $9 billion from the firm's value.
Ive spent nearly three decades at Apple, leading the design of the candy-colored iMacs that helped Apple re-emerge from near death in the 1990s to the iPhone, regarded by some experts as one of the most successful consumer products of all time. "It's the most significant departure of somebody who was a core part of the growth story" under Jobs, said Ben Bajarin, analyst with CreatIve Strategies. Ive joined Apple in 1992 and led Apple's design teams since 1996. He became chief design officer in 2015.
Ive's new company will be called LoveFrom, the Financial Times reported, quoting Ive as saying it would be based in California "for now." Ive told the newspaper he would work on Apple devices in addition to unspecified "personal passions" and non-Apple projects. "I have the utmost confidence in my designer colleagues at Apple, who remain my closest friends, and I look forward to working with them for many years to come," Ive said.
Ive's departure comes amid falling iPhone sales, including a record drop in Apple's most recent quarter. Sales of some newer hardware products such as the Apple Watch and its wireless AirPods headphones are expanding, but Apple has turned its attention to growing its services business, which includes Apple Music and iCloud. Nehal Chokshi, an analyst with Maxim Group, said that despite Ive's key role in Apple history, his departure will not hurt the iPhone maker. "I would view it as Jony Ive looking to get paid market rates for his design expertise from Apple, with the right to allow other companies - not competitors to Apple - to leverage that expertise," Chokshi said.

Apple's chief design officer, Jony Ive, is leaving the company
Resignation News
Kif Leswing
June 27, 2019
Jony Ive, Apple's chief design officer, is leaving the company, Apple announced on Thursday.
Apple stock dropped 1% on the news in after-hours trading.
Ive is considered one of the most important people at Apple, responsible for the industrial design and the look and feel of all major Apple products, including the iPhone and the Mac. He had worked at Apple for more than 20 years.
He is going to start his own design business, called LoveFrom, along with longtime friend and fellow designer Marc Newson, according to a Financial Times report. Apple will be a client, Apple said.
"While I will not be an employee, I will still be very involved - I hope for many, many years to come. This just seems like a natural and gentle time to make this change," Ive told the Financial Times.
"Jony is a singular figure in the design world and his role in Apple's revival cannot be overstated, from 1998?s groundbreaking iMac to the iPhone and the unprecedented ambition of Apple Park, where recently he has been putting so much of his energy and care," said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement.
Ive will not have an immediate successor. Instead, Evans Hankey, vice president of Industrial Design, and Alan Dye, vice president of Human Interface Design, will assume additional design responsibilities, Apple said. The two designers will report to Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. Ive reported directly to Cook.
In recent years, Ive has dedicated a large portion of his time to the construction of Apple Park, the company's $5 billion campus in Cupertino, California.
Last month, Apple officially opened its new headquarters with a concert on campus.
"There were some significant projects that I feel like I've completed. For example Apple Park - this was a project that started in 2004 . . . A couple of weeks ago we had our official opening of the Park. That was a really significant project, that was unlike many of our others, because it was for us," Ive told the Financial Times.

Apple hires former Tesla and Microsoft senior designer
Apple has hired Andrew Kim, formerly of Tesla and Microsoft, to bolster its design team. Kim captured the attention of many in 2011 with a custom iOS device stand and again in 2012 when, as a fan, he shared his vision for an overhaul of Microsoft's branding and design language. He then joined Microsoft and helped design the Windows 10 UI along with HoloLens and Xbox One S, he writes on his LinkedIn profile, before moving to Tesla.
As a senior design manager at the car company, Kim says he worked on the Model 3, S, X and Y along with the Roadster V2 and the Semi. That background, along with Tesla's chief vehicle engineer recently returning to Apple and the latter company recruiting other former Tesla employees, could indicate that Apple is again trying to build its own car. However, gIven the breadth of Kim's experience, there's no real telling what he's likely to be focused on.
Apple being Apple, Jony Ive will probably still hold dominion over major design decisions. But adding the ideas of someone as clearly talented as Kim into the mix can only prove positIve for the future of Apple's products.

A Google linked exec and a former US politician have dropped out of a Saudi project after journalist's disappearance

Members of an advisory board for a $500 billion Saudi megacity project are distancing themselves from the organisation after the reported murder of a dissident Saudi journalist.
Google-linked executIve Dan Doctoroff and ex-US secretary of energy Ernest Moriz have now dropped out of the project.
Apple's Jony Ive was initially on the list, but Apple says his inclusion was a mistake and he has nothing to do with the project.
The other 16 members of the board did not respond to Business Insider's multiple requests for comment.
A senior executIve who works for Google's parent company and a former US secretary of energy have dropped out of a Saudi Arabia tech and business advisory board following international outcry over the disappearance and alleged murder of a dissident Saudi journalist.
On Tuesday, the Saudi news outlet Argaam reported that Neom - a $500 billion megacity project being built by the country - had formed a new advisory board.
Members mentioned in the announcement included famed tech industry investor Marc Andreessen; Dan Doctoroff, CEO of Google parent company Alphabet's urban planning unit Sidewalk Labs; Travis Kalanick, ex-CEO of Uber; former European Commission vice president Neelie Kroes; ex-Dow Chemical Company CEO Andrew LIveris, and Silicon Valley investor Sam Altman.
But following inquiries from journalists, members have started distancing themselves from the project.
First was Apple's chief design officer Jony Ive: The initial list published by Argaam said that he was a member, but Apple subsequently said his inclusion was a mistake and that he should never have been on the list in the first place. (Argaam and Neom did not respond to Business Insider's requests for comment.)
Then on Wednesday, Ernest Moriz, the former US secretary of energy, said he was "suspending" his involvement until more is known about Khashoggi's disappearance.

The SixtyEight-Apple connection
A company identified only as "SixtyEight LLC" was registered last March in Delaware, then licensed as a foreign corporation in California last November. Notably, that firm later paid to import a 1957 Fiat Multipla 600 from the U.K. into the U.S.
Jony Ive, Apple's British-born head of design, is known to have a soft spot for the Fiat 500 that he drove while in school. He and co-designer Marc Newson also auctioned off a Product(RED) Fiat 600 back in 2013.
SixtyEight's affiliation with Apple could not be confirmed, but Apple does have a long history of using shell corporations and deceptIve methods to hide its secret projects. Aside from a barren website, there is scant other information about SixtyEight- lending more credence to its use as a front.

Welcome to our complete guide to Apple Park, the extravagant, multibillion-dollar new campus headquarters that the company has almost finished building in Cupertino, California. It's an impressIve building - but not everyone is happy.
Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world, so it's no surprise that it is fast outgrowing its current headquarters at One Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California. As a result, Apple has spent years building a new HQ. (It's since announced plans for a second campus, incidentally.)
The new campus is officially named Apple Park. (Before this was announced, the building was widely known as the 'Spaceship Campus' because of its flying-saucer-like design.) It's located on the former Hewlett Packard campus.
When will Apple Park be finished?
Construction was scheduled to be finished by the end of 2017, and the large-scale building work was mostly done earlier than this. Even now there is still plenty of exterior landscaping to be done, however. Jump down to the section of this article where we post aerial drone videos to see the latest progress.
Since April 2017, the 175-acre campus has reportedly been welcoming employees, but it's set to take more than six months to move all 12,000 employees into the new site, and some construction will continue over the summer even as employees move in.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Apple design chief Jony Ive revealed that his team would be moving in during the autumn of 2017, and will be among the last teams to move to the new campus.
