Q Research General #17948: Aussies hits the streets WE WILL NOT CONSENT Edition
Was looking at the remarkable transformation in the life of Princess Gloria Thurn n' Taxis came across this:
"Princess Gloria is working with Stephen K. Bannon, center, the populist former adviser to President Trump, and conservative Catholic leaders to undermine Pope Francis."
Heard there's a revolution going on inside the Catholic Church, spearheaded by: Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei
https://opusdei.org/en-us/
Op Dei is an organization most know, if at all from the movie or books of Dan Brown, in which Op Dei are characterized as metaphysically deranged, cicatrix sporting zealots.
Op. Dei was founded in Spain in 1928 by canonized Catholic priest Josemaría Escrivá and was given final Catholic Church approval in 1950 by Pope Pius XII.
Roland Joffe made a film about Josemaria Escriva's life. A strange film.

LOTS OF OPINIONS
FOR:
"Cardinal Julián Herranz, stated "Opus Dei has become a victim of Christianophobia."
>according to several journalists who have worked independently on Opus Dei, such as John L. Allen Jr.,[11] Vittorio Messori,[76] Patrice de Plunkett,[129] Maggy Whitehouse,[128] Noam Friedlander[125] many of the criticisms against Opus Dei are myths and unproven tales. Allen, Messori, and Plunkett say that most of these myths were created by its opponents, with Allen adding that he perceives that Opus Dei members generally practice what they preach
AGAINST:
>Sociologists Peter Berger and Samuel Huntington suggest that Opus Dei is involved in "a deliberate attempt to construct an alternative modernity," one that engages modern culture while at the same time is resolutely loyal to Catholic traditions.[178] Van Biema of Time magazine emphasises Opus Dei's Spanish roots as a source of misunderstandings in the Anglo-Saxon world, and suggests that as the United States becomes more Hispanic, controversies about Opus Dei (and similar Catholic organizations) will decrease."

Why is this worth thinking about?
There are several prominent member of Opus Dei in addition to Bannon who feature prominently in the mythology of the Great Awakening. Justice Kavanaugh and Mike Pompeo are said to be members, patriots and honorable men. Justice Scalia may also have been a member.

For its part, the Vatican has been carrying on a charm offensive with the CCP for several years, and in September 2018 signed an important secret accord with Beijing concerning the appointment of Catholic bishops in China.
According to veteran Vatican journalist John L. Allen, Jr., the Vatican has spared no effort in its attempt to woo Beijing into full diplomatic relations, a key priority of the Francis papacy.
The Vatican is "covetous of a relationship with China, and often apparently willing to stifle objections and give away a great deal" in order to move toward that goal, Allen wrote last month.

The accounts were part of a coordinated information campaign operating for more than two years to target Mr. Guo as well as jailed publisher Gui Minhai.
"Those early efforts are an attempt to shape sentiment and the international narrative around these prominent critics of the Chinese government and to shape them in such a way as to influence the Chinese diaspora's perception of these individuals," said Jake Wallis, one of the report's chief authors.

In short, "the Vatican is moving full-steam ahead in its courtship of Beijing, with the ultimate prize remaining full diplomatic relations, a secure legal standing for the church, and partnerships on the global stage," Allen wrote.
The Vatican's 2018 overture to Beijing was sweetened by the May 2020 launch of a new Chinese edition of the Jesuit-edited journal Civiltà Cattolica, which enjoys a semi-official Vatican status, Allen noted.
La Civiltà Cattolica said the new edition is meant "as a gesture of friendship, given the increasingly important role that the Chinese language plays in the contemporary world within the global context."
Mr. Allen's appraisal of the Vatican's courtship of China squares with what other Vatican-watchers have been observing as welL.
Francis dreams of being the pope who will establish diplomatic relations with Beijing, and to achieve this goal he is willing to make "concessions," declared Vatican analyst Alban Mikozy on French television last December.
"Pope Francis is a prudent man," Mikozy said. "He pursues a dream: to be the sovereign pontiff who will restore relations between China and the Vatican."
"In order to do this, he is ready to make a few concessions: say nothing about Hong Kong, do not get too excited when the Chinese leader talks about rewriting the Bible," he added, in reference to announcements that the CCP intends to retranslate the Bible and other sacred texts to make them conform to socialist ideology.
Because of this overarching desire, Mikozy said, the pope is willing to turn a blind eye to the CCP's violations of religious liberty and other human rights issues.
Last November, for instance, during an in-flight press conference during his return flight from Asia, the pope reiterated his desire to visit China, while dodging questions about the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests.
"I would like to go to Beijing," Francis said. "I love China."
According to Mikozy, the pope's silence on Hong Kong suggests that he will go to great lengths not to offend the CCP.
The pope has lavished fulsome praise on China, insisting that China's communist government protects religious freedom and that "churches are fulL."
Meanwhile, the chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, the Argentinian Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, has held up communist China as the best model for living out Catholic social teaching today.

Vatican Is Moving 'Full-Steam' in Courtship of Beijing
ROME - The Vatican is pulling out all the stops to woo Beijing into full diplomatic relations, according to veteran Vatican journalist John L. Allen, Jr.
In an article Sunday in Crux, a U.S.-based online Catholic news outlet, Allen wrote that the Vatican is "covetous of a relationship with China, and often apparently willing to stifle objections and give away a great deal" in order to make headway.
In short, "the Vatican is moving full-steam ahead in its courtship of Beijing, with the ultimate prize remaining full diplomatic relations, a secure legal standing for the church, and partnerships on the global stage," Allen wrote.
His case in point was the notorious 2018 provisional accord between the Holy See and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on the naming of Chinese bishops, a move that received an avalanche of criticism at the time, which has only been aggravated by ongoing CCP aggressions against Christians in the country after the deal was inked.
The Vatican's 2018 overture to Beijing was sweetened by last month's launch of a new Chinese edition of the Jesuit-edited journal Civiltà Cattolica, which enjoys a semi-official Vatican status, Allen noted.
Christian persecution watchdog groups as well as the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) have been harshly critical of the CCP's egregious violations of religious liberty in the country, and yet in its many appeals against human rights abuses around the world, the Holy See has been strangely silent when it comes to China.
For his part, Pope Francis has insisted that China's communist government protects religious freedom and that "churches are fulL." Meanwhile, the chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, the Argentinian Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, has declared that the CCP has created the best model for living out Catholic social teaching today.
Mr. Allen's evaluation of the Vatican's courtship of China squares with what other Vatican-watchers have been noting as welL.

Q Research General #9392: The Far Left Terror Edition
Genocide of Nigeria's Christians a 'Global Security Nightmare'
The ongoing slaughter of Nigerian Christians by Muslim herders and terrorists is a powder keg waiting to explode, according to an essay Sunday by Christian persecution expert John L. Allen.
A recent report asserted that 52 lethal, anti-Christian attacks took place in Nigeria during the first six months of 2019, notes Mr. Allen, the author of the 2013 bestseller The Global War on Christians: Dispatches from the Front Lines of Anti-Christian Persecution.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian-based International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law declared that some 2,400 Christians were killed by the Fulani in 2018 alone. And Nigeria's Daily Post reported last year that from June 2015 to June 2018, Fulani militants "killed 8,800 Christians and other non-Muslims," torching "not less than 1,000? churches and other places of worship during the same period.
While mainstream media have insisted that the anti-Christian violence by Muslim herdsmen is not religiously motivated, that is not the experience of people on the ground, Allen notes.
"It's tough to tell Nigerian Christians this isn't a religious conflict since what they see are Fulani fighters clad entirely in black, chanting 'Allahu Akbar!' and screaming 'Death to Christians!', Sister Monica Chikwe of the Hospitaler Sisters of Mercy told Allen at a recent Rome conference on anti-Christian persecution.
The media have largely downplayed the religious nature of the Fulani killings, preferring to attribute the violence to "ethnic tensions," a "battle for land and resources," or even "climate change."
Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari, who is himself of the Fulani ethnic group, has encouraged this narrative, minimizing the importance of religion in the conflict.
Two local Catholic bishops, however, along with other Christian leaders, have insisted that the violence represents a "clear agenda for Islamizing the Nigerian Middle Belt" by using armed Fulani jihadists.
One of the bishops, Matthew Ishaya Audu of Lafia, said in 2018 that the ongoing attacks are not random or economically motivated, but purposefully target Christians.
"They want to strike Christians," Bishop Audu said, "and the government does nothing to stop them, because President Buhari is also of the Fulani ethnic group."
Allen, who visited Nigeria while researching his book on Christian persecution, concurs.
"Sooner or later, the international community will be forced to recognize that the fate of Nigeria's Christian population isn't just a human rights issue," Allen wrote Sunday, "but also a major global security concern."
A recent report filed by the Jubilee Campaign, which advocates for religious freedom worldwide, to the International Criminal Court, claims that Fulani massacres of Christians in Nigeria meet the international standard for a "genocide."
Such a situation presents a serious problem for the international community, Allen declared Sunday.
"So far, Nigeria largely has been spared a larger eruption in part because of the leadership of Christian clergy, who generally preach non-violent resistance," Allen said.
"It's unclear, however, how much longer that philosophy can hold up if the violence continues unabated and the perception is that government authorities are unable, or unwilling, to do anything about it," he added.

Christian Persecution 2019 a Scourge of 'Mammoth Proportions'
June 2019 is an "especially menacing time" for Christians both on the domestic and international fronts, writes Christian persecution expert John L. Allen in a report Sunday.
The U.S. Catholic Church is facing "one of the most serious potential violations of religious freedom in its history in the form of SB 360 in California," writes Allen, author of the 2013 bestseller The Global War on Christians: Dispatches from the Front Lines of Anti-Christian Persecution, since the bill would compel priests to reveal information learned while hearing confessions as evidence against possible sex offenders.
"The bill passed the California senate in late May by a 30-2 vote and is expected to be considered by the State Assembly in September," Allen notes.
On the international scene, "the scope of anti-Christian hostility is staggering," Allen continues, with the number of Christians facing "harassment, physical assault, arrest and imprisonment, torture, and even death" on a daily basis estimated at around 200 million.
Christians in North Korea, China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria and a host of other countries live under a constant threat of active persecution, as documented by Open Doors, a Christian persecution watchdog group.
Even in Latin America, the world's largest "Catholic" region, the number of Catholic clergy and personnel killed each year frequently tops the list of continents.
While the defense of religious freedom should apply equally to all creeds, Allen asserts, anti-Christian persecution deserves particular focus "given the wall of silence that still too often surrounds the subject."
"Just as one didn't have to be Jewish to sympathize with the plight of dissident Jews in the Soviet Union, and didn't have to be black to be outraged by apartheid in South Africa, similarly today one shouldn't have to be Christian to recognize anti-Christian persecution as a human rights scourge of mammoth proportions," Allen writes.
Saturday marked the beginning of the U.S. bishops' yearly "Religious Freedom Week," which runs this year from June 22-29.
The bishops have assigned a particular focus to each day of the campaign, urging the faithful to pray for their brothers and sisters who face persecution and to inform themselves as to the depth and breadth of the problem:
Saturday: Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher, martyred under King Henry VIII
Sunday: Middle East Christians
Monday: Faithful Public Servants
Tuesday: Persecution of the Rohingya
Wednesday: Foster Care and Adoption
Thursday: Persecution of Christians in Nigeria
Friday: Religion: A Public Good
Saturday: Religious Freedom for Incarcerated Persons
