Murder Suspect Cut Off Ankle Monitor, At Large: DA

Albuquerque, NM - Today a warrant was issued for Murder Suspect Joe Anderson.

After requesting the Court issue a warrant for his arrest today, Prosecutors learned late this afternoon that Anderson cut off his ankle monitor.

Anderson was charged with first degree murder in 2022. Last month, the District Court ruled he could be released pending trial. Yesterday, the New Mexico Supreme Court overruled the District Court's decision, saying Anderson should be in custody.

Anderson has also previously been convicted of a separate crime of voluntary manslaughter in 2016.

"This is exactly why we filed pretrial detention in this matter. Unfortunately this individual has cut off his ankle monitor and is in the wind," said Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.

Law enforcement from the District Attorney's Office, as well as other agencies, are currently looking for Anderson.

The first directly-elected mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, was reportedly arrested by Merseyside Police on Friday over alleged bribery and witness intimidation, as part of an investigation into development contracts.
A police statement detailing the arrests did not name the Labour mayor explicitly as a suspect in the "ongoing investigation", however, local reports have identified him as one of those detained.

Police said that those held include three men, aged 62, 33 and 46, "arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation." Two other men, aged 25 and 72, were arrested "on suspicion of witness intimidation."

Officers said the five had been taken to stations across Merseyside, "where they will be questioned by detectives."

Merseyside police said they had arrested five men suspected of bribery and witness intimidation in connection with a year-long investigation into property developers. The Liverpool Echo reported that Mayor Joe Anderson was among the detained suspects.

The mayor of Liverpool and four other men have been arrested for bribery and witness intimidation.

Merseyside police said on Friday that the arrests of Mayor Joe Anderson and four unnamed others were in connection with an "ongoing investigation" into building and development contracts in the city.

The year-long Operation Aloft probe focused on a number of property developers.

The other suspects were later only identified as a 62-year-old man from Old Swan, a 33-year-old man from West Derby and a 46-year-old man from Ainsdale, who were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation, while a 25-year-old man from Ormskirk and 72-year-old man from Aigburth were arrested on suspicion of witness intimidation.

The Liverpool Echo reported that the 62-year-old was in fact Anderson, who became Liverpool's first directly-elected mayor in 2012. The BBC reported that the Labour Party had already suspended the mayor.

The leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Liverpool council said the mayor should "step away" from his post while the investigation continued.

"[He] should follow the precedence set by leaders of the council and other senior figures in such cases," Councillor Richard Kemp said. "He should step away from the council and step away from his mayoralty while this goes through due legal process."

Political gossip site Guido Fawkes speculated that the 72-year-old suspect was none other than former deputy leader of Liverpool council, Derek Hatton, who was expelled from the Labour Party in 1986 for his membership in the Trotskyist entryist group Militant.

Hatton shot to fame in the 1985 rate-capping rebellion, in which the Liverpool city council set a budget $30 million above its tax income in protest of cuts in grants made by the central government at the hands of Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government. Hatton later became a radio presenter, occasionally appearing on TV.

Hatton told the Daily Telegraph in 2008 that he was now running a property firm in Cyprus selling villas and apartments. In 1993 he was acquitted, along with three others, of conspiring to defraud the Liverpool city council.

Hatton has reapplied to the Labour Party in 2007, 2015 and 2018. He was successful the third time, but was again suspended within days over an anti-Semitic tweet dating from 2012. He was reinstated the next year.

Hours before the draconian measures took effect, however, dozens of young people poured into the city's center, where they danced and participated in other forms of not-socially-distanced merrymaking.

Videos posted to social media show revelers filling the streets after Liverpool's pubs were ordered indefinitely closed at 10pm on Tuesday. The crowd can be heard shouting and dancing as they defy the newly-implemented coronavirus restrictions.

The city's mayor, Joe Anderson, said the incident brought "shame" to Liverpool and accused the crowd of attacking police officers.

While many Britons were similarly outraged, some argued that it was unsurprising that students in the city, who have been "treated like prisoners" due to coronavirus measures, would eventually rebel.

Others expressed unapologetic support for the revelers. Simon Dolan, a British businessman who has launched a legal challenge against the UK government's Covid-19 restrictions, called for similarly defiant street gatherings across the country.

Penny Lane street signs were hit by vandals who spray-painted the signs with "racist" after social media rumors based on a questionable museum claim that the street was named for 18th Century slave ship owner James Penny. Yesterday the head of the city's International Slavery Museum said the street would be removed from a display on the city's slavery links if it was established it was not linked to James Penny.

However this explanation is clearly not accepted by someone, who has today defaced all the Penny Lane road signs with what appears to be spray paint.

Local councillor and Liberal Democrat leader in the city, Cllr Richard Kemp said the move was 'disgraceful' and has immediately asked the council to sort it.

He said: "I'm really annoyed about this, this is just based on a rumour that has gone around that Penny Lane is named after James Penny - which just isn't true.

...The International Slavery Museum, at the Albert Dock, currently has an interactive display which informs visitors that Penny Lane was named after James Penny, the anti-abolitionist who was said to have defended slave trade to the British Parliament.

People have had to be treated for heat related medical issues.


Deputy Police Chief Joe Anderson said emergency responders have treated several people for dehydration and heat exhaustion, and another person for diabetic complications.

The temperature in Fargo just before 4 p.m. was in the upper 80s.

Anderson said none of the medical issues appeared to be serious.

Scheels Arena opened its doors just before 4 p.m. and Forum reporter Kim Hyatt, who was on scene, said "it was like the floodgates opened" as people filed in to escape the heat.

Anderson said they anticipated some heat issues after seeing what happened leading up to a Trump rally in Duluth, Minn., one week ago.

There, people were treated for heat exhaustion while waiting in a section of skywalk to see Trump at Amsoil Arena.

The passage had no air conditioning and some estimated the temperature inside at more than 100 degrees.
