The RCMP is investigating Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former Finance Minister Bill Morneau and others for obstruction of justice in the SNC-Lavalin scandal, Democracy Watch reported Monday.
Trudeau could face up to 10 years in prison if charged and convicted of the offense.
During Monday's Question Period in the House of Commons, the Opposition MP Dane Lloyd (CPC-Sturgeon River-Parkland) asked whether Trudeau or any of his cabinet members were under RCMP investigation. Government House Leader Mark Holland (Liberal-Ajax) rose to answer the question but his answer was inaudible. When he was asked a second time, Holland claimed he had already answered the question.
The conservative political and media watchdog filed an Access to Information request with Canada's national police force on July 27, 2022. The RCMP responded on May 25, 2023 that it has an ongoing investigation into Trudeau, Morneau, assorted staffers and former Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick, Canada's top bureaucrat.
The SNC-Lavalin scandal took down two key ministers in the Trudeau cabinet as well as Trudeau's principal secretary, Gerald Butts.
The issue exploded in February 2019 when then-Attorney General and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould said Trudeau's office had tried to bully her into intervening in a fraud and corruption court case against Quebec contractor SNC-Lavalin, a major source of jobs and votes in the province.
Wilson-Raybould taped her conversations with Trudeau and appeared before the House of Commons Justice Committee to say that she felt pressured by Trudeau to intervene in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. After she resigned from Trudeau's cabinet, former Treasury Board Secretary and Minister of Health Jane Philpott also quit the federal cabinet, specifically citing the SNC-Lavalin scandal as the reason for her departure.
Trudeau then ejected both of them from the Liberal caucus. As she resigned, Philpott declared that Canadians needed to know "the whole truth" about the affair.
The RCMP's response letter, letter to Democracy Watch is 96 pages long and says that "a review of the records revealed that this matter is currently under investigation." All but 10 of the pages are redacted because, as the police force explains, the case remains under investigation. The RCMP has not commented on any SNC-Lavalin investigation since Aug. 14, 2019, when it would only confirm that it was assessing the potential for criminal charges.

>The letter alleged Trudeau is guilty from everything from obstruction of justice to the enabling of a "multi-billion dollar intercontinental child trafficking enterprise" and "sex slavery"-much of it drawn straight from the playbook of QAnon, the delusional conspiracy theory that posits that U.S. President Donald Trump is secretly fighting a cabal of pedophilic liberal elites for control of Washington.
The ringleader, Norman Traversy, has been filing vexatious legal documents with various courts, hoping that the justice system would spring into action. Unfortunately for the retired firefighter, he has been relying on antiquated sections of Canadian law and misunderstanding all sorts of legal concepts. Most critically, his claims are without merit or evidence.
Nevertheless, it has inspired others and he has managed to crowdfund nearly $150,000 for the venture. After the rally, a group of protesters set up at the National War Memorial, across from Parliament Hill, to continue the crusade.
They are motivated, in part, by the belief that individuals have the right to launch private prosecutions or perform citizens' arrests.
In recent weeks, activists associated with the encampment have accosted staffers for Infrastructure Minister Catherine McKenna, tried to arrest a Radio-Canada reporter thinking he was a Bloc Quebecois MP, and threatened to arrest Singh, the leader of Canada's fourth-largest party in Parliament.
It's not entirely clear why the agitators would want to arrest politicians from the NDP and Bloc, but video shows Singh, walking alone down Wellington Street, doing his best to try and ignore the agitator as he threatens to perform an arrest.
When the group appeared on the grounds of Rideau Hall earlier this summer, where both Trudeau and Governor General Julie Payette live, Brian Kidder, a core member of the group, tried to force his way past security to perform a citizens' arrest of Trudeau. When he was stopped, his supporters accused security of "obstruction of justice."
Canada does permit citizens' arrests, but only in limited circumstances. For it to be legal, the person performing the arrest has to genuinely believe that someone is in physical danger, and the arrest is an attempt to avoid that danger. While the activists may contend that the arrest is reasonable to stop an international child sex trafficking ring, as described by the QAnon delusion, no court would entertain such an argument, given that no evidence exists for the conspiracy.
At an event held Saturday in Ottawa, billed as a "public inquiry" to study the prime minister's supposed crimes, Kidder took the stage to describe his campaign.
By his own count, he's tried to arrest Trudeau seven times-on top of his other confrontations-and has yet to face charges for assault, disturbing the peace, or any other criminal complaint. As he told the crowd, "that itself says a lot."
Indeed, after his failed arrest of a journalist outside the Radio-Canada building, Ottawa police arrived and put Kidder in handcuffs, only to release him shortly after without charges.
At the event, Kidder detailed the motivations for his actions: After being injured on the job about five years ago, Kidder applied for worker's compensation and was denied. He became convinced that the then-Liberal government of Ontario was engaging in a conspiracy to deny his benefits; the plot has since stretched all the way to Trudeau's office.
The fact that Kidder is not facing charges, and that the camp is still sitting on federal government land, is evidence for some politicians that the RCMP is not taking these threats seriously.
Kidder, emboldened, recently wrote on Facebook that he plans to attempt a citizens' arrest on former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould as well. Given she is now an independent Member of Parliament, she can count on no dedicated security presence.

Former SNC-Lavalin executive found guilty of Libya corruption charges
A former senior executive of Canadian engineering and construction giant SNC-Lavalin was found guilty Sunday of corruption and fraud charges related to the company's dealings with the family of the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
After three days of deliberations, a jury in Montreal found Sami Bebawi, former head of SNC-Lavalin's international construction division, guilty of all five charges he faced, including fraud, corruption of foreign officials and laundering of proceeds of crime.
So far, the 73-year-old former executive is the only SNC-Lavalin official to have been convicted in the case.
Sentencing hearings are scheduled to begin on Thursday.
The Montreal-based company, which found itself at the centre of a political scandal earlier this year, is facing separate charges related to the corruption scheme in Libya.
Prosecutors presented Bebawi, 73, as a key figure in an elaborate scheme to bribe Libyan officials, including one of Gadhafi's sons, Saadi Gadhafi, in exchange for lucrative construction contracts in the oil-rich North African country.
Following Sunday's verdict, Bebawi was released pending his sentencing. Hearings will begin Dec. 19. (Paul Chiasson/The Canadian Press)
Prosecutors alleged that SNC-Lavalin created a shell company and transferred about $113 million to its accounts.
According to the prosecution's star witness, Riadh Ben Aissa, another former SNC-Lavalin executive and a former subordinate of Bebawi, the money was intended mainly for Saadi Gadhafi.
Between 2001 and 2011, SNC-Lavalin won contracts in Libya totalling at least $1.85 billion.
SNC-Lavalin is accused of paying $47.7 million in bribes to public officials in Libya between 2001 and 2011. SNC-Lavalin, its construction division and a subsidiary also face one charge each of fraud and corruption for allegedly defrauding various Libyan organizations of $129.8 million.
The company says it intends to vigorously challenge the charges.
"SNC-Lavalin is focused on its business and delivering results, and will not comment on past or pending court proceedings," the company said Sunday in a statement.
SNC-Lavalin opts for judge-only trial in corruption case
Being found guilty could have grave consequences for SNC-Lavalin because it could find itself blacklisted and shut out of lucrative federal contracts for a period of 10 years as well as undermining its international business opportunities.
The engineering and construction firm has been at the centre of a political controversy following accusations by former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould that top government officials pressured her to overrule federal prosecutors and negotiate a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) with the company.
The DPA would allow the company to pay a fine rather than face a criminal trial.
Wilson-Raybould resigned from cabinet in February following media reports that her demotion from the justice portfolio to veterans affairs in a January cabinet shuffle was caused by her refusal to intervene in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin.
Former Treasury Board President Jane Philpott also resigned from cabinet, saying she lost confidence in the government's handling of the affair.
The scandal also resulted in the resignation of Trudeau's principal secretary Gerald Butts and the early retirement of Michael Wernick, the former clerk of the Privy Council.

Canada's golden boy Trudeau sinks in polls as scandal takes toll
When Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office in late 2015, he was a political golden boy who seemed destined to build on the legend of his father, who led the country for more than 15 years.
But six months ahead of an October election, polls suggest the 47-year-old politician with the broad smile and a penchant for colorful socks could become the first prime minister to lose power after a single majority mandate since the 1930s.
Trudeau is mired in a relentless scandal over alleged interference in a corporate corruption case that has led to the resignations of two Cabinet members, his top advisor and the head of the federal civil service.
The ruling Liberals have lost 6 percentage points since the start of the year, ceding the lead to the rival Conservatives, according to a Nanos Research poll published on Tuesday.
If an election were held now, the Conservatives would win 34.9 percent of the vote, the Liberals 32.8 percent and the left-leaning New Democratic Party 16.6 percent. The poll suggests the result would be deadlock or a fragile minority government.
"The Liberals have taken a hit, but they're still competitive," said pollster Nik Nanos. "The most significant effect has been the negative impact on the prime minister's personal brand."
An Ipsos poll from last month put the Conservatives at 40 percent, 10 points ahead of the Liberals.
Trudeau, the oldest son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, has from the start pushed a progressive agenda in support of gender equality, the environment and aboriginal rights, all issues that appeal to his core voters, but which after more than three years sound increasingly scripted to some.
Trudeau is not helped by the optics of the scandal involving SNC-Lavalin Group Inc, a prominent Montreal-based engineering and construction firm that has been accused of bribing Libyan officials to get contracts between 2001 and 2011.
The prime minister has been on the defensive over allegations government officials inappropriately pressured Canada's former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to drop a criminal case against the company in favor of a deferred prosecution agreement, or out-of-court settlement.
Wilson-Raybould, the first indigenous justice minister in Canadian history, resigned over the scandal. Former Treasury Board chief Jane Philpott also quit in protest. They were two of the highest-profile women in Trudeau's Cabinet.

Trudeau Broke The Law When He Expelled Critics From Liberal Caucus, MP Says
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can't seem to get out of his own way.
Just as the furor from what's become known as the SNC-Lavalin scandal was dying down, Trudeau has given two of his former cabinet ministers who were at the center of the drama reason to revive it. Former Treasury Board minister Jane Philpott, who resigned from Trudeau's cabinet in protest after the scandal broke, has asked the speaker of Canada's House of Commons to rule that Trudeau violated Canadian law when he unilaterally expelled her and former Justice Minister and AG Jody Wilson-Raybould from the Liberal Party caucus last week.
According to the Globe and Mail, a law called the Parliament of Canada Act - which was amended in 2015 to include a process for expelling members from a party caucus - stipulates that a caucus vote via secret ballot must be held before an MP can be ejected. Trudeau didn't hold a vote before effectively exiling the two dissident women from the party last week.
Trudeau told journalists last week he made the decision to oust them, saying "I have taken the decision to expel the honourable members from caucus."
For those who haven't been following the scandal, it started when the Globe and Mail reported earlier this year that Trudeau had pushed Wilson-Raybould out of his cabinet by demoting her to a lesser position after she refused to offer SNC-Lavalin, a Quebec-based engineering firm accused of corruption for bribing Libyan government officials, a deferred prosecution in accordance with the PM's wishes. During testimony before a Parliamentary committee, Wilson-Raybould described a campaign of inappropriate political pressure carried out by employees in Trudeau's office and the privy service, supposedly at the direction of the PM.
When Wilson-Raybould refused, she was moved during a cabinet shakeup. Wilson-Raybould has alleged that Trudeau was concerned about job losses in his home constituency in Quebec should SNC-Lavalin be stripped of its ability to win government contracts. The prime minister has maintained that he did nothing wrong, and that he told Wilson-Raybould that the decision was ultimately hers to make.
Adding a layer of irony to the situation, both MPs, who resigned from Trudeau's cabinet in March, were part of the new wave of more diverse MPs elected in 2015, and were part of the "gender balanced" cabinet appointed by the PM in 2017 after his electoral victory. Trudeau's treatment of the two has prompted accusations that Trudeau is a "fake feminist" - claims that will undoubtedly be bolstered by the fact that he violated the law to discriminate against them.
With the party's standing in the polls sliding due to the scandal, the Liberal majority has nevertheless rallied around their leader, recently blocking two Commons committee investigations into the scandal.
The opposition, meanwhile, has called on Trudeau to resign. But without any pressure from within his own party, it's unlikely that he will acquiesce to these demands.

Justin Trudeau just can't quit the SNC-Lavalin scandal
The scandal was supposed to be squashed, story over, the damage done. But instead of closing the door on the political controversy that's dogged his government for months, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has thrown it back open, keeping the story in the news for another week.
For months now, the ordinarily prime-time-ready prime minister has struggled to stay ahead of allegations that his team inappropriately pressured the woman who was then Canada's first indigenous attorney general, Jody Wilson-Raybould, to defer the prosecution of an engineering firm from Trudeau's home province of Quebec.
The story seemed to culminate last week with the ouster of Wilson-Raybould and another high-profile, female ally from Trudeau's Liberal Party, in what the National Post, a conservative newspaper, called the "Tuesday night massacre."
Trudeau, in announcing the move, tried to cast it as a simple matter of party discipline: They were disloyal, they've been expelled, it's time to move on.
Or not. On Sunday, Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer held a news conference to announce that he had received a letter from Trudeau's lawyer threatening to sue him for comments he made about the controversy. In the letter, dated March 31, attorney Julian Porter said criticisms in a Scheer news release two days earlier had gone "beyond the pale of fair debate and is libellous" and warned of possible action under Ontario's Libel and Slander Act, according to Canadian media.
The news conference gave Scheer a jump-start on the news cycle and a chance to grandstand on the issue of the day. He told the cameras that he stood by every criticism Porter mentioned. He said he would welcome the chance to hear Trudeau's sworn testimony in court - an "I double dare you to sue me" response that evoked some sort of comical, Canadian political duel.

Trudeau Licks Wounds and Tries to Change Channel on SNC Scandal
Last week, Trudeau expelled two former ministers at the center of the SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. ordeal and tried to stop the bleeding. The lawmakers are viewed either as dissident troublemakers or as principled whistle-blowers, so the prime minister is trying to change the channel to an issue on which he feels he's an unambiguous winner: climate change.
"The best thing the prime minister can realistically do in the short term is get out of the news and focus back on his agenda," Nik Nanos, chairman of Nanos Research, said in an interview.
The pollster's latest surveys show Trudeau's Liberals and the opposition Conservatives tied at 35 percent ahead of an election this fall. The governing party's support seems to have leveled off but Trudeau's personal approval ratings are still falling, Nanos said. "We're headed to a minority government."
Canada's 2015 election was a three-horse race between the Liberals, former Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives and the left-leaning New Democratic Party under Thomas Mulcair. But this year's vote is shaping up as a head-to-head fight between Trudeau and Harper's successor, Andrew Scheer.
Hearings into the scandal have shown that Trudeau and aides had a series of conversations with his then-justice minister, Jody Wilson-Raybould, and her staff over whether to help SNC-Lavalin settle a fraud and corruption case dating back to its work in Moammar Qaddafi's Libya. Issuing a directive to seek a deferred prosecution agreement would shield the firm from a potential conviction and subsequent ban on federal government contracts.
The controversy hinges on Wilson-Raybould's allegation that the interventions amounted to judicial interference. Trudeau and his aides, however, say they were just trying to stave off job losses, and chalk it all up to the normal operations of government.
Wilson-Raybould was a star recruit to federal politics in the Pacific Coast battleground of Vancouver in 2015 who went on to become Canada's first indigenous justice minister. She quit cabinet after being shuffled to a lesser role at the beginning of the year, and was soon followed out the door by another top rookie minister, Jane Philpott.

Ex-ministers keep up pressure on Canada's Trudeau over scandal
Two former ministers who were expelled from Canada's ruling Liberal Party this week kept up pressure on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday, saying he should have apologized for inappropriately trying to influence a criminal proceeding.
The two-month old scandal centers on Jody Wilson-Raybould, who in February said officials had leaned on her while she was justice minister last year to ensure construction company SNC-Lavalin Group Inc escaped a corruption trial.
Former Treasury Board chief Jane Philpott resigned her post because she disagreed with how Trudeau had handled the matter. He turfed both women from the Liberal caucus on Tuesday in a bid to end a scandal which is undermining his support ahead of a federal election in October.
"There is very good evidence that there were attempts to have political interference with a very serious criminal trial," Philpott said in an interview with Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
"I have tried to suggest that the way to deal with this is to speak the truth, to admit that mistakes were made, to apologize to Canadians for it and find out how it happened and make sure it never happens again," Philpott said in one of her first interviews since being ejected from caucus.

Trudeau Ousts Two Former Cabinet Ministers Critical of His Handling of SNC-Lavalin Affair From His Party
TORONTO-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has kicked out two former cabinet ministers who resigned over his handling of the SNC-Lavalin affair from his Liberal party caucus.
During an emergency caucus meeting on April 2, Trudeau said former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould and former Treasury Board President Jane Philpott would no longer be allowed to sit in the legislature as Liberal members of Parliament. They will also not be allowed to run as Liberal candidates in the upcoming October federal election.
The prime minister said that his decision was based on the two legislators' lack of confidence in the government as well as actions they've taken since they left cabinet earlier this year.
Both Wilson-Raybould and Philpott have been outspoken about the government's handling of the prosecution of Canadian engineering firm SNC-Lavalin. The Montreal-based company is charged with fraud and corruption in connection with C$48 million ($36 million) payments to Libyan government officials between 2001 and 2011.
Wilson-Raybould alleges she was pressured by the prime minister and his senior staff to intervene in the criminal prosecution of the company to reduce the severity of the consequences faced by the company, citing worries over job losses and potential impact on votes for the Liberal party where the company is based.
Wilson-Raybould was shuffled from her role earlier this year. She alleges the decision was made because of her decision not to intervene in the SNC-Lavalin case. Philpott resigned from cabinet shortly afterwards, her resignation letter citing a lack of confidence with the current government over the way it handled the affair.
The allegations sparked two investigations, one by the parliamentary justice committee and another by the federal ethics commissioner. It also cost Trudeau his principal secretary, Gerald Butts, who resigned but has denied any wrongdoing, and the nation's top bureaucrat, Michael Wernick, who will step down as clerk of the Privy Council office on April 19.

Liberal 'Dictator' Trudeau Expels Own Party Members Over Whistleblowing
Canadian Prime Minister and Liberal sweetheart Justin Trudeau has reacted to allegations by his own party members of him blocking an investigation into an engineering firm by .... kicking them both out of his own party.
Although both Ms Jody Wilson-Raybould and Ms Jane Philpott had already resigned from his cabinet citing their concerns over the SNC-Lavalin affair, they have now both been expelled from Mr Trudeau's Liberal Party, six months before a general election in October.
As the SNC-Lavalin controversy has cast a shadow over Mr Trudeau's leadership, the Conservative opposition party is now in the lead.
Mr Andrew Scheer, leader of the opposition Conservatives, claimed that the prime minister was stopping justice by removing the two corruption whistleblowers. In a tweet, he stated that 'if you tell the truth, there is no place for you in the Canadian Liberal Party.'
Mr Trudeau in turn explained their dismissal by stating : "the trust that previously existed between these two individuals and our team has been broken,"
"If they can't honestly say they have confidence in this team... then they cannot be part of this team."

SNC-Lavalin's grand boss at the time, Pierre Duhaime, even gave the go-ahead for the purchase of this bribe for Saadi Gaddafi, one of the dictator's sons, according to a former high-ranking official. company, Riadh Ben Aissa.
The engineering and construction firm hoped to thank the son of the dictator for the construction contract for the Benghazi airport in north-eastern Libya, Ben Aissa said in a testimony delivered during the meeting. preliminary investigation by former SNC-Lavalin controller Stéphane Roy.
"He [Saadi Gaddafi] wanted a Challenger, a Bombardier plane in Canada. […] It cost $ 35 million at the time, "he explained.
Bribery
The testimony of the former boss of the construction division of SNC-Lavalin gives an idea of ??how far the Canadian giant was prepared to go to corrupt the Libyan regime.
Stéphane Roy was accused in 2014 of taking part in the payment of bribes in Libya. However, he took advantage of a stay of proceedings for unreasonable delays in February (under the famous Jordan judgment), and the testimony of Ben Aissa at the preliminary inquiry of Mr. Roy can now be unveiled.
Ben Aissa has made his side of the prison in Switzerland in connection with bribes in Libya. He was also sentenced in Quebec for corruption at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC).
Criminal trial
"He [Saadi Gaddafi] told me about it directly. I reported directly to Pierre Duhaime, who was in agreement, and then we waited to see at that time what was the payment terms related to the plane to accommodate and to buy the plane, "candidly admits Ben Aissa in his testimony.
The plane was never finally bought and the airport project, which was to accommodate 5 million passengers a year, was abandoned in 2011.
"Since there was the war [the Arab Spring in Libya] and things took the turn they had, it stopped there."
Neither SNC-Lavalin nor Bombardier wanted to comment on these allegations after being contacted by our Investigation Office.
In his testimony, Ben Aissa repeatedly stressed that all major payments were approved at the highest level of the company, as much at the time of Jacques Lamarre (1996 to 2009) than Pierre Duhaime (2009 to 2012). According to Ben Aissa, SNC-Lavalin was at that time an "extremely centralized company".
Ben Aissa is one of the star witnesses of the federal prosecutors in the criminal trial for corruption which is announced against the multinational Montreal.
It is these accusations that have led to a political storm since early February in Ottawa. Former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould says she has been under pressure from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and her entourage to help SNC-Lavalin avoid the courts.
Two sumptuous yachts
Saadi Gaddafi was charged for a 45 meter yacht brand Palmer Johnson worth 25 million euros ($ 37.8 CAN), the Hokulani. According to the testimony of Riadh Ben Aissa, it was an offshore control company that he controlled and which was bound by contract with SNC-Lavalin who made the payments.
According to Swiss documents cited by the Financial Post in 2015, this son of Muammar Gaddafi then ordered another yacht, even bigger, 63 meters, the costs of which should also be borne by SNC-Lavalin.
Travel all expenses paid in Montreal
In the winter of 2008, Saadi Kadhafi landed in Montreal. SNC-Lavalin rolls out the red carpet to welcome this VIP.
It's at the chic Sofitel, a five-star hotel located on Sherbrooke Street, that Saadi Kadhafi stays. The firm praises for the dictator's son the "executive suite" at $ 575 a night.
"It was our guest. We took care of all his expenses here in Canada, "said Riadh Ben Aissa.
It was then decided to charge the costs to the Sarir project in Libya.
"The philosophy of the company is to make everything happen on projects," says Ben Aissa.
The cost of the trip was literally astronomical: $ 2 million for a few months of stay.
A furnished and decorated condo in Toronto
During her visit to Canada, Saadi Gaddafi decides to purchase a $ 1.6 million luxury condo in Toronto.
"Saadi wanted to furnish it so that it was fully functional. He wanted us to pay the apartment fees for furniture, "said Ben Aissa.
Designer Harvey Wise has been hired for this purpose.
The cost of his services? A whopping $ 150,000.

Michael Wernick, the clerk of the privy council, said in a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that he wanted to leave well before the election because he had lost the confidence of opposition leaders.
Trudeau has been on the defensive since Feb. 7 over allegations that top officials leaned on former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to ensure engineering and construction firm SNC-Lavalin Group Inc avoided a corruption trial.
Wernick, who was appointed by Trudeau to the job in early 2016, is the latest victim in a scandal that has already cost the prime minister his closest personal aide and two senior cabinet members.
The civil service and Wernick are supposed to be non-partisan, but his strong defense of government officials and his insistence that no one had done anything wrong triggered widespread criticism from opposition legislators that he was siding with the Liberals.
"Recent events have led me to conclude that I cannot serve as clerk of the privy council … during the upcoming election campaign," Wernick said in his letter.
"It is now apparent that there is no path for me to have a relationship of mutual trust and respect with the leaders of the opposition parties," he said.

Canadian Ethics Commissioner probing SNC-Lavalin affair taking 'prolonged' medical leave
Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion, the man looking into potential violations of federal ethics rules in the SNC-Lavalin affair, is stepping away temporarily from his duties for health reasons.
A statement issued by his office today says Dion will be away for a "prolonged period for medical reasons."
"Commissioner Dion will resume his duties as soon as he is able to do so," says the release. "We hope you will join employees of the Office in expressing our best wishes for Commissioner Dion's health. We would request continued respect for the privacy of Commissioner Dion and his family at this time."
Dion's office said it will continue to gather information on ongoing investigations and offer MPs and other public office holders advice.
"Despite these exceptional circumstances, the work of the Office will continue," says the statement.
Last month, Dion announced he'd investigate claims that the Prime Minister's Office pressured former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to help Quebec engineering firm SNC-Lavalin avoid criminal prosecution.
The NDP asked the ethics watchdog to look into the matter after a Globe and Mail report alleged the PMO wanted Wilson-Raybould to direct federal prosecutors to draft a "deferred prosecution agreement" (DPA) - a deal akin to a plea bargain - to avoid taking SNC-Lavalin to trial on bribery and fraud charges.
Dion said there was sufficient cause to investigate Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a possible contravention of Section 9 of the Conflict of Interest Act. That section prohibits any official responsible for high level decision-making in government from seeking to influence the decision of another person to "improperly further another person's private interests."
A spokesperson for Dion's office said the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Privy Council Office have been told of Dion's absence.

Canada's no-sex, no-money scandal could topple Trudeau
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is engulfed in a no-money, no-sex scandal in which nothing illegal happened, but the fallout could topple him in the election this fall
There's no money, no sex and nothing illegal happened. This is what passes for a scandal in Canada.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been engulfed in allegations involving possible collusion with Russia and secret payments to buy the silence of a porn star. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing a controversy that seems trivial by comparison, but it could topple him in elections later this year.
Two high-profile women ministers in Trudeau's Cabinet, including Canada's first indigenous justice minister, resigned in protest, and his top aide and best friend quit too.
The former justice minister and attorney general, Jody Wilson-Raybould, says Trudeau and senior members of his government pressured her in a case involving a major Canadian engineering company accused of corruption related to its business dealings in Libya. Trudeau reportedly leaned on the attorney general to instruct prosecutors to reach the equivalent of plea deal, which would avoid a criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, because he felt that jobs were at stake.
"People south of the border would be astonished to think that this is the type of scandal that they have in Canada," said Eddie Goldenberg, a former adviser to former Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
Many countries would be jealous of a scandal that went no further than a prime minster asking another minister to do something she is legally entitled to do, Goldenberg said.
"I just don't really see it as a scandal," he said. "There is a political correctness here. Nobody wants to go after an indigenous woman minister. It's become politically incorrect to question the former minister."
Trudeau has said he asked Wilson-Raybould to revisit her decision not to instruct prosecutors and said she agreed to consider that. He denied applying any inappropriate pressure, saying he and his officials were only pointing out that prosecution could endanger thousands of jobs.
SNC-Lavalin has pleaded not guilty to fraud and corruption charges related to allegations it paid about $35 million (CA$47 million) in bribes to public officials in Libya between 2001 and 2011.
"It's a pseudo-scandal. It's crap. What the hell? You are doing business in Libya and you are not bribing?" said Robert Bothwell, a professor of Canadian history and international relations at the University of Toronto. "It does suggest to me that the director of public prosecutions … is also nuts. And so is Wilson-Raybould. These people are delusional."

The hidden key to the SNC-Lavalin scandal
SNC-Lavalin, a Canadian corporate giant with an established history of corruption, is charged with bribing the Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's brutal regime over many years, in exchange for lucrative contracts.
This case is the most serious and important prosecution of corporate corruption in modern Canadian history, and we're arguing about jobs and whether Jody Wilson-Raybould is hard to get along with.
It is not only appropriate, but essential that this matter go to trial in an open and public hearing, so that Canadians can see how the world's bloodiest tyrants are cossetted, indulged, and enabled.
Perhaps the most depressing spectacle of the entire affair is watching Justin Trudeau, a man who clearly aspires to greatness, debase himself and this nation, by begging, pushing, imploring Canada's attorney general to let this company off the hook.
Then effectively firing her when she wouldn't comply, and allowing her credibility to be undermined.
Just what kind of story does he think SNC-Lavalin's caught up in, Anne of Green Gables?
SNC, a corporate giant, bribed a bloody despot's regime in exchange for billions in contracts
For 16 years the global engineering and construction giant SNC-Lavalin cultivated a close relationship with the Muammar Gaddafi family, particularly his son Saadi.
According to criminal charges, for almost a decade of that period, up until the fall of the regime, SNC paid Saadi Gaadafi almost $50 million in exchange for billions of dollars in airport, pipeline, and water infrastructure projects.
Oh, and prisons.
Let's go over that again.
A Canadian company is charged with bribing a family infamous around the world for murder, torture, rape, abductions, and widespread human rights abuses, and doing it for its own profit. They didn't stop until the regime collapsed in 2011 and Swiss authorities came knocking. Charges were laid in April 2015.
Because of corruption's profoundly oppressive impact on the Libyan people, the SNC-Libya charges are vastly more serious even than the McGill hospital bribery scandal, in which SNC paid bribes of $22.5 million to secure the contract.
Yet repeatedly and overwhelmingly from the prime minister and his advisors, the hand-wringing has focused on Canadian jobs, without substantiation of what the real job losses might be.
Not a whisper for the innocent civilians trampled under a dictator's boot.
The kind of people who don't have Michael Wernick's mobile number.
The decision whether to proceed with criminal charges is something professional prosecutors do every day, following well-established principles of which the PMO seems blindly unaware.
In the case of remediation agreements, or DPAs (deferred prosecution agreements), those principles are supplemented by new amendments to the Criminal Code of Canada. But those changes don't dramatically alter the prosecutorial landscape.
Crucially, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) also has the benefit of the full police investigation, other court records, documents and witness interviews, including material that may never be publicly disclosed.
The only complaint that's been made over this whole scandal seems to be that the AG was not sufficiently persuaded by concerns about job losses to overturn the professional opinion of Canada's most senior prosecutor.
Canadians need a lot more context about what this case is about.
We need to talk about where this money went and who got hurt
At its heart, the SNC prosecution is the embodiment of the OECD anti-bribery framework to which Canada has long been a signatory, and on which our legislation, including DPAs, is modeled.
Corruption strikes the weak and disenfranchised first, last, and hardest.
It's not the affluent who find bodies dumped on the side of the road, or militias opening fire on rebels and dissidents. Or have to re-assemble brutalized women and girls.
SNC-Lavelin part of the corporate cabal
Clinton ties? Worth a dig..

Trudeau mulls change of tone in SNC-Lavalin scandal
By Mercedes Stephenson
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to change his tone on the SNC-Lavalin controversy after an afternoon huddled with his closest advisers, as the Liberal government struggles to confront the political crisis engulfing it just months ahead of the election and moves into damage-control mode.
The prime minister cancelled a planned trip to Regina, instead returning to Ottawa for an emergency strategy session with his senior staff and advisers in order to come up with a way forward on the SNC-Lavalin affair.
READ MORE: Ministers rally around Trudeau amid SNC-Lavalin affair - Here's what they're saying
A senior government source said a key part of those discussions was about the possible need for a change in tone. A new strategy is expected to come out of the meetings, one in which the prime minister is expected to strike a more apologetic tone and demonstrate contrition, likely in the form of a statement to Canadians.
The statement would not acknowledge any wrongdoing, the source says, but is expected to address the allegations of inappropriate pressure in a more apologetic way and express contrition over how his senior staff and officials allegedly conducted themselves.
Former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould has alleged that the prime minister, his senior staff and government officials put inappropriate pressure on her to intervene in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, citing jobs and a looming election.
A senior source said Trudeau will not make any statement in advance of the testimony of his former principal secretary and close personal adviser Gerald Butts.

Most Canadians side with Wilson-Raybould, believe Trudeau has lost moral authority to govern: Ipsos poll
BOY BLUNDER IN MAJOR SHIT
A majority of Canadians are keeping tabs on the SNC-Lavalin affair and that doesn't bode well for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, according to a new Ipsos poll conducted exclusively for Global News.
If an election were held tomorrow, Trudeau would receive only 31 per cent of the decided popular vote - down three points from a couple of weeks ago - while Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer would receive 40 per cent, according to the poll of 1,000 Canadians carried out between March 1 and March 4.
That's the biggest lead the Conservatives have had since the previous election campaign - and that's despite the fact that the polling data was obtained before Treasury Board President Jane Philpott resigned from Trudeau's cabinet on Monday, following in the heels of former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould and principal secretary Gerald Butts.
"This is the first time we've actually seen the Conservative Party resuscitated and looking like they could potentially form the government," said Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs.
"The Liberals, on the other hand, have been dropping precipitously over the space of the last few weeks. The question is have they hit bottom yet?"
The national approval figures are mirrored in Canada's largest province, Ontario, where the Conservatives sit at 40 per cent, nine points over the Liberals, who are at 31 per cent.
Crucially, the Tories enjoy a commanding lead in the vote-rich 905 region surrounding Toronto.
"The Conservatives have over a 20-point lead in the 905, which has the most seats that swing back and forth in any election campaign," said Bricker.
"With that kind of lead, they're set to sweep the 905. If they sweep the 905, they probably win the election."
The Trudeau Liberals' prospects in Quebec also look dim. The Liberals had a 13-point lead over the Conservatives in Canada's second-most populous province only two weeks ago, but that lead has since been slashed by half.
The Liberals now have the support of 35 per cent of Quebecers, with the Conservatives at 29 per cent and the Bloc Quebecois and NDP well behind at 19 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.
The polling also reveals that the ongoing SNC-Lavalin affair is directly responsible for Trudeau's flagging support.
Sixty-four per cent of Canadians say they're now following the issue - that's 15 points up from two weeks ago.
Most of them also say they believe the issue deserves all the attention it has been getting, compared to less than a third who say the matter is being blown out of proportion.

Trudeau in big Trouble now - MacLeans Magazine (Liberal rag) has JT on the cover and scathing article too!
The story a few Liberals were telling privately, in the early hours after Jody Wilson-Raybould delivered her extraordinary testimony to the Commons justice committee about the endless procession of men who tried to make her cancel a criminal trial for SNC-Lavalin, was that she just didn't get it.
The former attorney general is a nice enough sort, the story went, but she doesn't really understand the way the world works. The whole point of amending the Criminal Code to provide for deferred prosecution agreements (DPAs) was to make that option-a sort of negotiated fine in lieu of a trial for fraud and bribery-available to SNC-Lavalin. And if the option was available, why not use it? Jobs were at stake. Elections were at stake. Elections, plural, for Pete's sake. First an election in Quebec last autumn, then a federal election this autumn.
So you could drag SNC through the mud of a court trial, long after the individual executives who actually did any frauding and bribing had fled the company, for what? To visit punishments upon everyone else in the company? To maybe scare it out of Montreal for good? To endanger the jobs of thousands of fine upstanding Quebecers and other Canadians? On the eve of elections? Plural?
All of this was just so obvious to everyone who leaned on Wilson-Raybould, it was said privately. What the heck was she missing? Why didn't she get it?
If it's any comfort to the former attorney general, at least she can rest assured that she's not the only person who didn't get that blindingly obvious fix-the-Criminal-Code-to-suit-SNC-Lavalin-and-save-jobs-and-Liberal-hides connection. Because also out of the loop were the people of Canada. And if we were out of the loop, it's because Justin Trudeau and his apparently inexhaustible supply of yes-men worked hard to keep us uninformed. Article continued at sauce below

In Major Blow To Trudeau, Senior Minister Quits Over Corruption Allegations
Glad to see that there is some MP`s in the Canadian government who have some moral standing....
So much for "circling the wagons".
One of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's most trusted ministers announced on Monday that she planned to resign from his cabinet following damning testimony last week from her close friend, former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould, with whom she was closely allied when the two served in the cabinet together.
Jane Philpott, Trudeau's now-former president of the Treasury board, tweeted a statement announcing her resignation Monday afternoon. In it, she said that, after "serious reflection", she had decided to do the right thing and resign from the government, in keeping with her "ethical responsibilities and constitutional obligations."
Philpott went on to explain that the constitutional convention of cabinet solidarity means ministers must defend all cabinet decisions and other ministers publicly, and must speak in support of the government and its policies.
But given the preponderance of evidence supporting Wilson-Raybould's allegations about a concerted campaign of political pressure and veiled threats orchestrated by Trudeau and senior members of his office, Philpott said she could no longer abide by this prinicple.
"Sadly, I have lost confidence in how the government has dealt with this matter and in how it has responded to the issues raised," Philpott said in the statement.
Political analysts in Canada have argued that presenting a united front about Trudeau's innocence would be critical if the Liberals hoped to retain control of government during October's general election.
Philpott is following Wilson-Raybould in resigning from Trudeau's government. Wilson-Raybould resigned in February after being abruptly moved to lead the veteran's affairs department during a cabinet shuffle - a move that was widely regarded as a demotion. Wilson-Raybould claimed that this move was retribution for her refusal to offer Quebec-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin a deferred prosecution agreement, something she said at least 11 members of Trudeau's government had pressured her to do. She also claimed the prime minister himself insinuated that he wanted her to stymie the government's prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, in the hopes of preventing job losses in his district.
Trudeau claimed that he told Wilson-Raybould that SNC-Lavalin's fate was entirely up to her discretion. Philpott's resignation comes as Trudeau's political opponents are requesting an official inquiry into the scandal.

Jane Philpott Resigns From Trudeau Cabinet Amid SNC-Lavalin Affair
She was named Treasury Board president in January
TORONTO - Jane Philpott has stepped down from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet.
Philpott announced her decision to resign as Treasury Board president in a statement Monday. After some reflection, she said, it became clear it would be "untenable" for her to continue to serve as a minister.
"I have been considering the events that have shaken the federal government in recent weeks and after serious reflection, I have concluded that I must resign as a member of cabinet," she wrote.
She specifically cited the Liberals' handling of the SNC-Lavalin affair and its treatment of former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould, whose explosive testimony before the House of Commons justice committee last week has spurred Conservative calls for Trudeau to resign.

TRUDEAU IS DONE
1. For my American and British friends: Canada's Justin Trudeau is done. He might try to fight on; I personally think he's too damaged. He's irreparably damaged. Here's what happened in a few short tweets.
2. Trudeau was detonated today by his former Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould, Canada's first Aboriginal A-G. She just testified in Parliament, in meticulous detail, how Trudeau and his staff tried to get her to drop criminal charges against a corrupt company that he liked.
3. She refused to bend the law for Trudeau's cronies. But they didn't stop. Trudeau; his chief of staff; his principal secretary; even the finance minister. They met her ten times, phoned her ten more. trying to get the charges dropped. She wouldn't. So Trudeau fired her as A-G.
4. The story leaked out earlier this month, but it was all anonymous sources. The former A-G herself didn't say a word, saying she was bound by attorney-client privilege and cabinet confidences. She was effectively gagged; so Trudeau was the only one talking.
5. Trudeau took advantage of her enforced silence to claim she supported him and everything was fine. After all, when he fired her as A-G, he appointed her to the minor post of veterans minister.
When she heard him make that boast, she quit as veterans minister. He was shocked.
6. Then suddenly Gerald Butts, Trudeau's right hand man – his best friend since college – resigned, claiming he had done nothing wrong. Which is odd. It looked like a compromise – Butts left, so Wilson-Raybould met with the cabinet and the caucus again.
7. Wilson-Raybould still didn't say anything publicly. She hired a retired Supreme Court judge as her lawyer, to advise her on what she could say. Under pressure, the Liberal dominated Parliamentary committee invited her to testify, and Trudeau grudgingly waived some privilege.
8. So today she testified. In great detail. Exactly who pressured her. Exactly how. Exactly when. She named names. Including the prime minister himself. Here's her statement:
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/read-Jody-Wilson-Rayboulds-full-remarks-to-the-house-of-commons-justice-committee
9. It's against the law to pressure the Attorney General to obstruct a criminal prosecution. Here's Canada's Criminal Code. Section 139(2) is obstruction – it carries a 10-year prison term. https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/PDF/C-46.pdf
10. Last detail. Jody Wilson-Raybould's father was an Aboriginal activist who butted heads with Justin Trudeau's father. Here they are bantering. Bill Wilson tells Pierre Trudeau that his daughter Jody wants to be PM one day. Maybe she will be?

This Top Trump Rival Is About To Resign Over A Jaw Dropping Sex Scandal
Donald Trump's enemies just got some really bad news.
One of the President's biggest rivals is locked up in a growing crisis.
And it includes a bombshell sex scandal that could cause this top Trump critic to resign.
Liberals and many members of the fake news media look to Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to be one of the emerging leaders of the "liberal new world order" that Donald Trump is challenging.
Trudeau - who speaks in politically correct language that is "people kind" - supports open borders and global free trade.
But now Trudeau's career is in jeopardy.
Former Canadian Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould testified that Trudeau pressured her to drop a corruption case against Montreal-based engineering firm, SNC-Lavalin.
They were under investigation for bribery to secure contracts in Libya, as well as spending $30,000 on prostitutes for the son of Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi in 2008.
Wilson-Raybould testified, "The Prime Minister asks me to help out - to find a solution here for SNC - citing that if there was no DPA there would be many jobs lost and that SNC will move from Montreal. In response, I explained to him the law... I told him that I had done my due diligence and made up my mind on SNC and that I was not going to interfere with the decision of the DPP.
... At that point the PM jumped in stressing that there is an election in Quebec and that "and I am an MP in Quebec - the member for Papineau." My response - and I remember this vividly - was to ask the PM a direct question while looking him in the eye - I asked: "Are you politically interfering with my role / my decision as the AG? I would strongly advise against it." The Prime Minister said "No, No, No - we just need to find a solution."
Trudeau allegedly engaged in the same type of politically motivated interference of an investigation that President Trump's critics falsely accuse him of.
Gerald Butts, who was Trudeau's chief advisor, has already resigned because of this scandal.
And Trudeau may be next.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story

highlights, emergency debate, Canada's Justice scandal, continued …
There is a very complicated reference made in the debate. It is to the issue of child abuse in residential schools. I do not have the time to go into the detail here and now. But the key is that the former AG is an established aboriginal (i.e. Indian) leader who entered Parliament with a mission on that portfolio but was stymied by the Liberal government. That is an important context in which to consider her stand on this other scandal. The PM had pushed her too far and, frankly, as a bumbling politico he made a mess of something he supposedly – at least in election campaign rhetoric – had made a yuge part of his appeal to the Indian vote. In many ridings around the country, it was the Indian vote that won Trudeau's Liberals the majority they needed to become the Government in the last election.
The former AG helped with that presentation during the election campaign. She gave it credibility.
The former AG was betrayed, to be blunt about it. Now, whether or not one agrees with her stand on what is known as the aboriginal framework, it is readily apparent that Trudeau has been an utter failure as a politician – a corrupt one at that. Most rough hand politicos in Canada would have gotten away with this. But he is so inept he crashed and burned.
And the cost will be paid by the rest of the Liberal Party under him.
For most Anons the name of the former AG is Jody Wilson-Raybould. I'll just call her JWR in future posts. Her father was the previous generations aboriginal voice during the constitutional crisis that occurred during the government of Justin Trudeau's father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Her father stood up against Trudeau then, just as his daughter is standing up against Trudeau's son today.
As others have said, I disagree with both JWR and her father's group identity politics and leftish leanings. They are prolly moar left than PM Trudeau on just about everything. But I am astonished by her guts in defending the rule of law. I think it will come out that she had been less gutsy on other cases but the case of SNC-Lavalin was the last straw. She had been humiliated both politically and professional – behind closed doors.

I'm re-listening so generally Anons do not need to wade through it all themselves. But please do go to the debate because it is a good overview of what is at stake. Also, of course, do your own research.

The real scandal in the SNC-Lavalin affair

So, SNC began lobbying for Jody Wilson-Raybould to overrule the director of public prosecutions.
Wilson-Raybould could do it, but that decision is hers and hers alone. The principle is called the Shawcross doctrine and it's pretty simple: The responsibility for prosecutorial decision, such as overturning the SNC decision, rests with the attorney general, and she is not to be put under any pressure by the government.
And this is where Wernick's evidence becomes important. Because his evidence, examined in context, leads inextricably to the conclusion that there was pressure put on Wilson-Raybould to reverse the SNC decision.
And here is where the timeline, as confirmed by Wernick, matters.

Also, the following discussed the structure that protects the rule of law – but it was written prior to the former AG's testimony which provided the specifics that the author said was still unavailable at the time he worte the piece.

Justin Trudeau Is Finished
Between 2001 and 2011 the Canadian construction and engineering company SNC-Lavalin bribed officials in Libya with tens of millions to get contracts in that country. In 2015 the company was charged by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. It tried to avoid a trial and argued instead for a negotiated settlement since it had cleaned shop by changing its chief executive officer.
In 2016, SNC-Lavalin admitted that some former executives had illegally arranged donations of more than C$80,000 to Trudeau's Liberal Party from 2004 to 2011.
The company had revenues of some C$10 billion in 2018. Some 9,000 of its 52,000 employees work in Canada. The headquarter and 3,400 of its employees are in the province of Quebec where the Liberals need to pick up votes in October's federal election to keep their majority.
It was the task of the Justice Minister and Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould, to decide if the case should go on trial as the law demands, or if it could be settled out of court. A trial would likely end with SNC-Lavalin banned from all public contracts in Canada for 10 years. It would cost jobs and votes.
The company lobbied the Liberal government which brought in a remediation agreement regime in 2018 as part of a massive budget bill.

Alleged Threats, Bribes, Prostitutes: Growing Scandal Threatens to Bring Down Canada's Trudeau
Former Canadian Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould gave a bombshell testimony accusing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other officials of "veiled threats" to force her to drop a case for political purposes.
Ms Wilson-Raybould gave testimony before the Canadian House of Commons justice committee for several hours on Wednesday, speaking out against members of staff and Prime Minister Trudeau attempting to interfere with an investigation into the SNC-Lavalin corporation, The Globe and Mail reports.
Accusations that the prime minister and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) interfered with the SNC-Lavalin investigation first emerged on February 7th.
The engineering company, which is based in Quebec, was accused of engaging in bribery in Libya in efforts to secure lucrative contracts in the country.
Since the accusations were made public, further allegations have revealed that the corporation may also have gone as far as paying for prostitutes for Saadi Gadhafi, son of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, during a visit to Canada in 2008.
Receipts claim that the company spent as much as $30,000 on prostitutes for Gadhafi while he was allegedly in Montreal and Toronto at the invitation of the company to learn English.
Initially, after the first Globe and Mail report on the SNC-Lavalin affair, the accusations were dismissed by Trudeau and the PMO.

Surprise! 'Progressive hero' Justin Trudeau is a fraud and a hypocrite
Justin Trudeau is in trouble - big trouble. But who could ever have guessed that the media darling and international poster-boy for progressivism was actually just another snake in the grass?
Trudeau is facing explosive allegations that he pressured Canada's ex-attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to drop a bribery probe into Quebec-based firm SNC Lavalin (details here). Wilson-Raybould testified that officials, including Trudeau himself, "barraged" her with demands and "veiled threats" to drop criminal charges and said she believes her refusal to comply explains her abrupt demotion. If the allegations are true, this is bare-faced corruption. But Canada's swoon-worthy (apparently) prime minister is dismissing calls for his resignation.
Trudeau's refusal to back down reminds me of someone. Oh, who could it be? Ah yes, that other faux-progressive who is likewise accustomed to getting a free pass from the media because he makes all the right sounds with his mouth: It's France's Emmanuel Macron, of course. Macron's approval rating dipped to a mortifying low of 18 percent last year, but he is somehow still around to tell the tale - even after four months of non-stop street protests against his failing neoliberal government.
Trudeau and Macron belong to the same breed of politician. When they open their mouths, they appear to be the very antithesis of the likes of Donald Trump, who displays his monstrous nature for all to see. But the Macrons and the Trudeaus of the world are monsters in disguise - and they are just as dangerous. They exhibit extreme arrogance, running around lecturing the world on right and wrong, claiming a position on the moral high-ground. It's all a bad joke.
Their so-called progressivism is purely for show. They are, underneath it all, fakes, frauds and liars - talking the talk, but never walking the walk. There are endless examples of Trudeau's flagrant dishonesty - and the SNC Lavalin scandal is actually far less offensive than some of Trudeau's other sins against peoplekind.
Remember "peoplekind"? The word Trudeau used instead of "mankind" in a blatant effort to win progressive brownie points, believing such pathetic tokenism is a good enough alternative to actually doing something tangible that might benefit "peoplekind" in any substantial way.

Canadian Opposition Urges PM Trudeau to Resign Over SNC-Lavalin Affair - Report
The opposition statement came Wednesday after then-Canadian justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould testified earlier in the day that Trudeau's staff had allegedly exerted pressure on her over the SNC-Lavalin scandal, Reuters reported.
The leader of Canada's main opposition party Andrew Scheer demanded that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quit over the SNC-Lavalin case. "He can no longer, with a clear conscience, continue to lead this nation", Scheer told reporters, cited by Reuters, calling for police to immediately probe the case.

Will Trudeau Resign After Former AG's Explosive Testimony?
During a day where three concurrent Congressional hearings dominated the news cycle in the US, the testimony of Canada's former Attorney General seemed to slip under the radar. But unlike Michael Cohen's star turn in front of the House Oversight Committee, what former AG Jody Wilson-Raybould shared with lawmakers and the Canadian public actually might cause one head of state's carefully constructed house of cards to come crashing down - just as campaign season is ramping up.
With roughly eight months left until an election where Canadians will decide whether to stick with - or reject - the progressive agenda of PM Justin Trudeau, a widening corruption scandal is threatening to take down the prime minister's entire government. Two weeks ago, journalists at the Globe and Mail blew the lid off a scandal involving Trudeau and his closest aides, where the prime minister appeared to pressure Wilson-Raybould, then the attorney general, into offering a DPA to a Quebec-based engineering firm - then fired her when she refused to obey his demands. And after weeks of radio silence, she shared her side of the story during a widely watched (in Canada) Congressional hearing Wednesday afternoon.
Answering questions posed by a conservative MP, Wilson-Raybould said she faced intense political pressure and veiled threats from at least 11 people involved in the government - either the PMO or the Privy Council Office - related to the SNC-Lavalin affair. She also said she was warned directly by Trudeau about the negative consequences should the company face prosecution, according to CBC. One close aide to Trudeau has already resigned over the scandal.
Wilson-Raybould listed the people she had warned about "the inappropriate nature of these conversations" after they "hounded" her about the affair, including Trudeau, Finance Minister Bill Morneau, Clerk of the Privy Council Michael Wernick and the (now-fired) senior senior aide to the prime minister, Gerald Butts.
"For a period of four months from September to December 2018, I experience a consistent and sustained effort by many people within the government to seek to politically interfere in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion in my role as the attorney general of Canada in an inappropriate effort to secure a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) with SNC-Lavalin."
"Within these conversations there were express statements regarding the necessity of interfering in the SNC-Lavalin matter, the potential of consequences, and veiled threats if a DPA was not made available to SNC-Lavalin," she said.

Trudeau's Position as Canadian PM in Jeopardy - Liberal Party Chaos
Jody Wilson-Raybould's testimony was so much worse than the opposition could have hoped, or the government might have feared. Justin Trudeau has been hoist by his own petard, and it may cost him his job.
Trudeau appointed as justice minister someone who said she is a "truth-teller," an Indigenous person who said she has witnessed the consequences of the rule of law not being respected.
He appointed her and then he tried to make her complicit in running roughshod over that law.
If she is to be believed - and her testimony was convincing enough that it is likely she had public opinion in her pocket very early on - when she refused to play along he applied, in her words, "inappropriate political pressure." When she still failed to bend to his will, he removed her from her position as justice minister.
If he thought she would respond to the "veiled threats" levelled against her, he clearly misread his woman.
If you were watching Wilson-Raybould's appearance Wednesday afternoon, that cracking sound you heard was Liberal Party unity breaking up. The former attorney general remains a member of the Liberal caucus, and a candidate at the next election. But it is a malignant fidelity. Her testimony has done more harm to her party's chances of re-election than anything achieved by a hapless opposition. It seems hard to see how she can continue to sit as a Liberal member, far less run again.

==Trudeau asked 'me to help out, to find a solution to SNC': Wilson-Raybould==
Jody Wilson-Raybould says she was subjected to sustained and coordinated political pressure including "veiled threats" to intervene and shelve the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc.
In dramatic televised testimony before the House of Commons Justice committee on Wednesday, the former justice minister and attorney-general said there were 10 phone calls and 10 meetings in which she was inappropriately pressured.
For a period of approximately four months, between September and December of 2018, I experienced a consistent and sustained effort by many people within the government to seek to politically interfere in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion in my role as the attorney-general of Canada in an inappropriate effort to secure a deferred prosecution agreement with SNC-Lavalin Ms. Wilson-Rayould told MPs.
Ms. Wilson-Raybould said the lobby campaign involved 11 people from the Prime Minister's Office, the Privy Council Office and the Office of the Minister of Finance.
"Within these conversations, there were express statements regarding the necessity of interference in the SNC-Lavalin matter, the potential of consequences and veiled threats if a DPA (deferred prosecution agreement) was not made available to SNC," she said.
Ms. Wilson-Rabyould said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other senior officials including Finance Minister Bill Morneau's chief of staff, Ben Chin, made the point that an out-of-court settlement with the Montreal engineering and construction company would help the Quebec Liberal party electorally in last fall's provincial election.

Trudeau clears Jody Wilson-Raybould to speak to justice committee on SNC-Lavalin
By Rahul Kalvapalle
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a waiver allowing former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to speak to the House of Commons Justice Committee about her discussions with government officials on the SNC-Lavalin affair.
In an order-in-council posted online, the government said the waiver authorizes Wilson-Raybould "and any persons who directly participated in discussions with her relating to the exercise of her authority under the Director of Public Prosecutions Act respecting the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin, to disclose to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights and to the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner any confidences of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada contained in any information or communications that were directly discussed with her respecting the exercise of that authority while she held that office."
The order also waives "solicitor-client privilege and any other relevant duty of confidentiality to the Government of Canada" with respect to Wilson-Raybould's discussions with government officials "respecting the prosecution" of SNC-Lavalin while she was justice minister.
READ MORE: Trudeau says Wilson-Raybould will be able to answer 'relevant' SNC-Lavalin questions
The waiver does not, however, permit Wilson-Raybould to discuss conversations she may have had with the director of public prosecutions on SNC-Lavalin, a restriction that's meant to "uphold the integrity of any criminal or civil proceedings," the order states.

The 'truth' is that the RCMP is being blackmailed by the Hells Angels and that this is really about missing and murdered indegenous women, but people can't come out and say that or anyone on two wheels will get their day of the rope early.
>Prime Minister Justin Trudeau needs to offer an 'alternative narrative' on the SNC-Lavalin affair, backed up by fact and details, to take back control of the narrative, and if former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould leaves unanswered questions, it will look like a cover-up, say political watchers.
There may be more developments Tuesday morning depending on what people's attitudes are.

Canada PM's chief secretary resigns amid SNC-Lavalin controversy
(Reuters) - A top aide to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned unexpectedly on Monday amid allegations Trudeau's office had pressured the former justice minister to help construction firm SNC-Lavalin Group Inc avoid criminal prosecution.
Gerald Butts, Trudeau's principal private secretary and a key architect of the Liberals' 2015 election victory, said in a statement he did not pressure then-Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould over SNC-Lavalin. Trudeau, who faces a re-election bid in October, has faced criticism since Wilson-Raybould quit his Cabinet following a Globe and Mail newspaper report this month that officials in Trudeau's office had urged her to let SNC-Lavalin escape with a fine rather than face trial on charges of bribing Libyan officials.
SNC-Lavalin has said it had sought to avoid a corruption trial because the executives accused of wrongdoing had left the company and it had overhauled its ethics and compliance systems. Any accusation that "I or the staff put pressure on the Attorney General (Wilson-Raybould) is not true," Butts said in the statement on Monday. He added that the allegation was distracting from the "vital work" Trudeau was doing and that it was in the best interest of the Prime Minister's Office for him to step aside.
Trudeau accepted Butts' resignation and said he had served the country with "integrity, sage advice and devotion." "I want to thank him for his service and continued friendship," Trudeau said in a post on Twitter. Neither Butts nor chief Trudeau spokesman Cameron Ahmad was immediately available for comment. Butts, 47, has known Trudeau for more than 25 years, going back to when they were students at McGill University in Montreal. Along with Trudeau's chief of staff, Katie Telford, Butts is widely credited with helping Trudeau's Liberals win a surprise election victory in October 2015.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's top adviser and long-time friend Gerald Butts has resigned his post as principal secretary, but denies that he or anyone in Mr. Trudeau's office pressured former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould in the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin on bribery and fraud charges.
"I categorically deny the accusation that I or anyone else in this office pressured Ms. Wilson-Raybould," Mr. Butts said in a statement on Monday. "We honoured the unique role of the Attorney General. At all times, I and those around me acted with integrity and a singular focus on the best interests of all Canadians."
Thanks for the notes of encouragement to all who have reached out. @jodilhbutts and I appreciate the love and support. But public institutions are bigger and more important than any of their temporary occupants. Please see my statement. https://t.co/LkybmLiYbG
- Gerald Butts 🇨🇦 (@gmbutts) February 18, 2019
A Globe and Mail story on Feb. 7 said Ms. Wilson-Raybould came under pressure from the Prime Minister's Office to instruct prosecutors to offer SNC-Lavalin a deferred prosecution deal to avoid a trial.
Mr. Trudeau has said he discussed the issue with her last September, but that he told her it was her decision to make. He said she should have come forward if she felt she was being pressured by his staff.
On Monday, Mr. Trudeau used Twitter to thank Mr. Butts "for his service and continued friendship."
"Gerald Butts served this government - and our country - with integrity, sage advice and devotion," Mr. Trudeau wrote.
Ms. Wilson-Raybould, whom Mr. Trudeau demoted to Veterans Affairs in a shuffle in January, resigned from cabinet last week and said she had retained legal counsel to determine what she can and cannot talk about within the confines of solicitor-client privilege over the SNC-Lavalin affair.
Along with chief of staff Katie Telford, Mr. Butts has been at Mr. Trudeau's side since he ran for the Liberal leadership in 2013, and was a key architect of the party's election victory in 2015.
New Democratic Party MP Nathan Cullen said Mr. Butts' resignation and denials will do nothing to persuade Canadians that there was not untoward pressure on Ms. Wilson-Raybould.
"He should expect to be subpoenaed" by the Commons justice committee, Mr. Cullen said in an interview. "If you are innocent of all accusations, you don't tend to quit your job. And this was the most powerful person within this government outside of the Prime Minister himself. The Liberals keep denying with their words but keep convincing me with their actions that this scandal is real and this goes deep."

Why a criminal case in Canada is roiling Justin Trudeau's government
Jody Wilson-Raybould, who was Canada's first indigenous attorney general, said in a letter that she was resigning "with a heavy heart," though she did not elaborate on why she was doing so. Last month, she was shuffled out of the Justice Department and into Veterans Affairs, a surprising move that was widely seen as a demotion.
Her resignation comes one day after Canada's federal ethics watchdog announced that it was launching an investigation into whether Trudeau's office pressured her to obstruct the criminal proceedings of Quebec-based engineering giant SNC-Lavalin.
What is SNC-Lavalin?
Based in Montreal, SNC-Lavalin is one of the world's largest engineering and construction firms. It has been responsible for infrastructure projects such as the construction of an experimental nuclear fusion reactor in southern France

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The Canadian parliament's justice committee will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to debate whether to probe allegations of political interference that are becoming a big problem for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Former Canada AG Jody Wilson-Raybould Quits As Trudeau Embroiled In Growing Scandal
OTTAWA - Veterans Affairs Minister and former Attorney General of Canada Jody Wilson-Raybould resigned from the Trudeau government Tuesday, prompting shock and speculation.
Wilson-Raybould, whose resignation followed a recent demotion from the high-profile justice portfolio to the relative backwaters of veterans affairs, is at the center of an escalating judicial interference scandal that threatens to bring down Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Jody Wilson-Raybould Resignation Letter
Office of the Prime Minister
80 Wellington St.
Ottawa, ON K1P5K9
Attention: The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau
February 12, 2019
Dear Prime Minister,
With a heavy heart, I am writing to tender my resignation as the Minister of Vetrans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.
I want to thank all Canadians, and in particular the residents of Vancouver-Granville, who put their trust in me and supported me as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and as the Minister of Vetrans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence. When I sought federal elected office, it was with the goal of implementing a positive and progressive vision of change on behalf of all Canadians and a different way of doing politics. My resignation as a Minister of the Crown in no way changes my commitment to seeing that fundamental change achieved. This work must and will carry on.
To Canada's Veterans and their families: I have the deepest admiration and respect for you. This decision is in no way a reflection of my desire to see your service and sacrifice upheld and honoured. I only wish that I could have served you longer.
To my officials and ministerial staff: thank you for your hard work in the service of all Canadians. I am truly grateful for all that you have done and will continue to do.
I am aware that many Canadians wish for me to speak on matters that have been in the media over the last week. I am in the process of obtaining advice on the topics that I am legally permitted to discuss in this matter and as such, have retained the Honourable Thomas Albert Cromwell, CC as counsel.
Again, my thanks to all Canadians. Regardless of background, geography, or party affiliation, we must stand together for the values that Canada is built on, and which are the foundation for our future.
I look forward to continuing to serve as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver-Granville.
Respectfully,
Puglass

Jody Wilson Raybould Resigns From Cabinet
OTTAWA-Veterans Affairs Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould is quitting the federal cabinet. In a letter published on her website, the former justice minister says she has hired former Supreme Court judge Thomas Cromwell to tell her what she can say about her dealings with the prime minister on the SNC-Lavalin affair.
Wilson-Raybould's letter does not say exactly why she's quitting. The Globe and Mail newspaper reported last week that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or his staff pressured her to arrange a deal with the Montreal company that would have let it avoid a criminal prosecution on allegations of corruption and bribery in relation to its efforts to win government contracts in Libya. Since then, Trudeau has denied he did any such thing. On Feb. 11, he said in Vancouver that he'd told Wilson-Raybould that any decision on the subject was hers alone.

Trudeau throws Wilson-Raybould under the SNC-Lavalin bus
Sauce for this post: The Prime Minister spoke in Winnipeg today after the former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould announced her resignation from the Liberal cabinet.
The resignation comes at a time when Wilson-Raybould is involved in a scandal regarding attempts by the Prime Minister's Office to pressure her into intervening in a criminal trial against SNC-Lavalin.
This is the first time Trudeau has spoken since taking questions from reporters yesterday while in Vancouver.
"Last night I accepted Jody Wilson-Raybould's resignation from cabinet. Frankly I am both surprised and disappointed by her decision to step down," said the Prime Minister. "This resignation is not consistent with conversations I've had with Jody a few weeks ago... nor is it consistent with conversations we've had lately."
Jody Wilson-Raybould was part of a cabinet shuffle earlier in January and was removed from her position as the Attorney General and as the Justice Minister.
"Let me be direct the Government of Canada did its job and to the clear public standards expected of it. If anyone felt differently they had an obligation to raise that with me, no one including Jody did that."
The Prime Minister has also announced that Minister Harjit Sajjan has replaced Jody Wilson-Raybould as the acting Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Canadian minister quits as political crisis deepens for Trudeau
David Ljunggren
3 Min Read
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Veterans Affairs Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould quit on Tuesday amid news reports that she was pressured to go easy on a major firm last year when she was justice minister, a development that deepened a political crisis for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just months ahead of an election.
FILE PHOTO: Newly appointed Veterans Affairs Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould signs a book after Trudeau's cabinet shuffle, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, January 14, 2019. REUTERS/Patrick Doyle/File Photo
Wilson-Raybould, who did not give any reasons for her resignation, said in a letter to Trudeau she was quitting "with a heavy heart," adding that "I am aware that many Canadians wish for me to speak on matters that have been in the media over the past week."
The Globe and Mail reported that people in Trudeau's office tried to pressure Wilson-Raybould last year to help construction company SNC-Lavalin Group Inc avoid a corruption trial when she was justice minister.
Wilson-Raybould, who the Globe and Mail said had ignored the pressure, was demoted from the justice ministry last month. Trudeau said on Monday that he had full confidence in her and that her presence in cabinet spoke for itself.
Trudeau's office said the prime minister would stick to previously announced plans to speak to reporters later on Tuesday in Winnipeg.
The resignation is the second blow for Trudeau in two days over the affair. Mario Dion, Canada's independent ethics commissioner, said on Monday he was probing allegations of possible wrongdoing by senior officials.
In a hint that the situation could grow more complicated for Trudeau, Wilson-Raybould has retained former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Cromwell to advise her on how much she can say about the SNC-Lavalin case. Cromwell declined an interview request.
"This is bigger trouble for the government than almost anything else that has come along so far," said Richard Johnston, a professor at the University of British Columbia and an expert in public opinion and election.
Opinion polls show Trudeau's Liberals have a slender lead over the official opposition Conservatives ahead of an election set for this October.
"Mr. Trudeau's ethical lapses and his disastrous handling of this latest scandal have thrown his government into chaos," Conservative leader Andrew Scheer said in a statement.
Saudi Arabia denies ties to Bezos-AMI dispute
In 2017, Trudeau apologized after the office of the ethics commissioner said he had broken conflict-of-interest laws by accepting a vacation on a Bahamas island owned by the Aga Khan.
Wilson-Raybould, 47, appointed justice minister when Trudeau's Liberals came to power in November 2015, is one of the most prominent aboriginal politicians in federal politics.

Trudeau in ethics probe over handling of Libyan contract fraud
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is being investigated for illegally attempting to shield engineering firm SNC-Lavalin from criminal fraud and corruption charges involving millions of dollars in bribes to the Libyan government.
Trudeau claims he "welcomes" the probe, launched by the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner on Monday after requests from two New Democrat MPs followed on the heels of an incendiary report published last week in the Globe and Mail that placed him at the center of what the Conservative opposition has termed an "unprecedented" effort to illegally influence a criminal proceeding.
The PM allegedly pressured former justice minister and attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to curtail the criminal prosecution of a multi-million-dollar corruption and fraud case against SNC-Lavalin, redirecting the matter out of the courts and into a "remediation agreement," which would have spared the company the negative financial and reputational consequences of a criminal trial - the most devastating of which would include a 10-year ban from accepting government contracts, a stipulation which would economically cripple the Montreal engineering firm.
When Wilson-Raybould refused to ask federal prosecutors to make the non-prosecution deal with SNC-Lavalin in December, according to the Globe and Mail, Trudeau essentially fired her, leaving her to wash up at Veterans Affairs, a significant demotion.
Trudeau denies the allegations, claiming "Neither the current nor the previous attorney general was ever directed by me or anyone in my office to take a decision in this matter."
Conservative Leader Albert Scheer has led the charge to haul Trudeau's aides and top members of his party in front of an emergency meeting of the justice committee for what he calls "unprecedented" attempts at influencing a criminal proceeding.
"Obviously Justin Trudeau's trying to hide something," Scheer said. "All we have to go on is his word."
For the details of Trudeau's involvement in tampering with the SNC-Lavalin case, however, all Scheer has to go on is an anonymously-sourced report in the Globe and Mail.
SNC-Lavalin was charged with paying out $48 million in bribes to Libyan officials in the decade leading up to the NATO-led overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi's government in 2011, payments intended to influence government decision-making, though the company was also charged with defrauding Libyan companies of about $130 million.

And then there is this…
Trudeau says he has 'confidence' in Wilson-Raybould as ethics commissioner probes PMO over SNC-Lavalin
PM met with his former attorney general during swing through B.C.
Federal Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion will investigate claims that the Prime Minister's Office pressured former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to help Quebec engineering firm SNC-Lavalin avoid criminal prosecution.
The NDP asked Dion to look into the matter after the Globe and Mail published a report last week that alleged the PMO wanted Wilson-Raybould to direct federal prosecutors to make a "deferred prosecution agreement" (DPA) - a deal akin to a plea bargain - to avoid taking SNC-Lavalin to trial on bribery and fraud charges.
Dion informed the NDP MPs who requested the investigation Monday that there is sufficient cause to proceed with an inquiry into the actions of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in this matter.
In a letter to NDP ethics critic Charlie Angus and his colleague B.C. NDP MP Nathan Cullen, Dion said he would investigate the prime minister personally for a possible contravention of Section 9 of the Conflict of Interest Act.
That section prohibits any official responsible for high-level decision-making in government from seeking to influence the decision of another person so as to "improperly further another person's private interests."
Trudeau speaks
Speaking to reporters after a funding announcement about housing in B.C., Trudeau said he "welcomed" the ethics commissioner's examination of the allegations.
"This is an issue that has been much talked about over the last few days and I think it's important Canadians continue to have confidence in our system," Trudeau said.
Fucking snake trying to slither his way out as usual with meaningless platitudes

Trudeau government to block probe into SNC-Lavalin Scandal
Junior and the Libs have been accused in interfering into an investigation of corruption at SNC-Lavelin, an engineering firm that donates heavily to the Liberals. The attorney general refused to back down from the investigation and she was replaced. So now, here we are, same place as the states with allegations of top level interferance into investigations that expose (((them))).
The Liberal government in Ottawa appears to be doing everything it can to ensure no investigation occurs in regards to the recent SNC-Lavalin scandal.
According to the Toronto Star, a senior Liberal official has made it clear, "Justin Trudeau's government will not yet waive solicitor-client privilege, which would give Wilson-Raybould latitude to speak about the allegation, nor will it permit a parliamentary committee to proceed with its own investigation."
This is extremely worrying, as it shows the Liberal government believes that just the PMs word is enough to abdicate all responsibility for genuine transparency.
According to the new Attorney General, after speaking with only the Prime Minister, there is nothing to see here!
Except, there are serious allegations, that deserve a legitimate and open inquiry.
Heck, many Liberal insiders believe the leak to the Globe and Mail came directly from Jody Wilson-Raybould herself.
If true, that would mean the Liberal government, along with the new Attorney General, who is not Trudeau's lawyer, but rather the people's lawyer, believe information of corruption from within the inner sanctum of Ottawa deserves no serious scrutiny.
Even without the presence of a whistleblower, there are serious grounds for an investigation. SNC-Lavalin is a corporation with a long history of bypassing donation laws to donate overwhelmingly to the Liberal government.
Even outside of Canada, SNC maintains a notoriously bad reputation. For example, out of the 250 companies banned from bidding on world bank projects, 117 are Canadian.
Out of that 117, roughly 115 are SNC-Lavalin or its affiliates.
This is perhaps why, the former Attorney General of Ontario, alongside Andrew Scheer and Jagmeet Singh, have called for serious inquiry, or ethics investigations.

Trudeau says he didn't direct Wilson-Raybould on SNC-Lavalin case
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confronted allegations of political interference by his office on Thursday, saying he did not "direct" Jody Wilson-Raybould when she was justice minister and attorney-general to abandon the criminal prosecution of a Montreal corporate giant.
But he repeatedly refused to say whether his office tried to influence her to do so.
The Globe and Mail reported on Thursday that Ms. Wilson-Raybould had resisted pressure from the Prime Minister's Office to issue a directive to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada to shelve court proceedings against SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. in favour of a negotiated settlement without trial. Later in the House of Commons, opposition parties called for "full disclosure" of what happened.

Some hosers up in the great white north are skeptical of Justin Trudeau's denial of any wrongdoing by his office in interfering with a corruption probe on a Canadian company with close ties to his party. Will another socialist bite the dust?
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau found himself in the opposition's crosshairs Thursday following a report that he pressed former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to intervene in the prosecution of construction giant SNC-Lavalin on charges of fraud and corruption.
If the allegations are proven to be true they will not only destroy the reputation of the prime minister and those around him but could impact the reputation of Canada's justice system.
SNC-Lavalin illegally gave more than $110,000 to the Liberal Party and its (riding) associations. Today, SNC-Lavalin needs a helping hand because they are in trouble."

The Globe also asked whether she had refused such a request. "I cannot comment on that. That is legal advice between me and the government at the time."
Sources said the justice minister was also encouraged to hire an outside legal expert to furnish an opinion on the suitability of a remediation agreement. Ms. Wilson-Raybould said she could not comment on whether such a request was made.
Montreal Liberal MP David Lametti, a former law professor, became Justice Minister and Attorney-General when Mr. Trudeau shuffled his cabinet on Jan. 14. Mr. Lametti's promotion from the backbench bolsters Quebec's representation in cabinet and could encourage SNC-Lavalin's hopes for a remediation agreement, although the company said it is pursuing the judicial review at the moment.
Asked whether SNC-Lavalin believes Mr. Lametti might revisit the decision, Daniela Pizzuto, the company's director of external communications, said: "I cannot provide you with any guidance on this topic."
A lawyer for SNC-Lavalin, William McNamara of the law firm Torys, filed an application in October aimed at overturning the ruling and seeking a court order requiring the director of public prosecutions to invite the company to negotiate a remediation agreement. In the Oct. 19, 2018, filing in the Federal Court in Montreal, Mr. McNamara called Ms. Roussel's decision an "unreasonable exercise of her discretion." Last week, federal prosecutors asked that SNC-Lavalin's appeal be dismissed.
It is a pillar of our democracy that our system of justice be free from even the perception of political interference and uphold the highest levels of public confidence," she wrote. "As such, it has always been my view that the attorney-general of Canada must be non-partisan, more transparent in the principles that are the basis of decisions, and, in this respect, always willing to speak truth to power. This is how I served throughout my tenure in that role.
- Jody Wilson-Raybould, in an online post on the day of her move from Justice to Veterans Affairs
After the cabinet shuffle, Ms. Wilson-Raybould released a lengthy statement listing her legislative accomplishments during her tenure at Justice. In an unusual move for a member of cabinet, she also underlined the need for independence in the portfolio.
"It is a pillar of our democracy that our system of justice be free from even the perception of political interference and uphold the highest levels of public confidence," she wrote. "As such, it has always been my view that the attorney-general of Canada must be non-partisan, more transparent in the principles that are the basis of decisions, and, in this respect, always willing to speak truth to power. This is how I served throughout my tenure in that role."
As justice minister, Ms. Wilson-Raybould ushered in the legalization of cannabis with an expansion of police powers to conduct roadside testing on drivers in what she described as among the world's toughest impaired-driving regimes. She introduced the first major reforms in a quarter-century to the law that protects sexual-assault victims from intrusive questioning, and redesigned the judicial-appointment process to stress diversity, and the numbers of women applying for the federal bench soared.
But sources say the B.C. politician angered the PMO in four speeches last fall that suggested politicians had engaged in doublespeak on Indigenous issues. The speeches earned her a private rebuke from Privy Council Clerk Michael Wernick, the top federal civil servant, sources say.
While she did not point at anyone in particular, Ms. Wilson-Raybould did nothing to dispel the impression that she was talking about the government.
"Too often, we see the tendency - especially in politics - to use important words that have real meaning and importance carelessly," she said in the first speech of the four, at the University of Saskatchewan, and also in Comox, B.C., on Sept. 27. "We see 'recognition' applied to ideas that actually maintain denial. We see 'self-government' used to refer to ideas or processes that actually maintain control over others. We see 'self-determination' applied to actions that actually interfere with the work of Nations rebuilding their governments and communities. We see 'inherent' in the same breath as the contradictory idea that rights are contingent on the courts or agreements."
In the third speech, in Ottawa on Oct. 30, she implied she has not always received the respect she deserved from cabinet. "Indeed, in my own experience serving as the first Indigenous person to be Canada's minister of justice and attorney-general, I have unfortunately had it reinforced that when addressing Indigenous issues, no matter what table one sits around, or in what position, or with what title and appearance of influence and power, the experience of marginalization can still carry with you."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office attempted to press Jody Wilson-Raybould when she was justice minister to intervene in the corruption and fraud prosecution of Montreal engineering and construction giant SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., sources say, but she refused to ask federal prosecutors to make a deal with the company that could prevent a costly trial.
SNC-Lavalin has sought to avoid a criminal trial on fraud and corruption charges stemming from an RCMP investigation into its business dealings in Libya. Prosecutors alleged in February, 2015, that SNC paid millions of dollars in bribes to public officials in Libya between 2001 and 2011 to secure government contracts. The engineering company says executives who were responsible for the wrongdoing have left the company, and it has reformed ethics and compliance rules.
After the charges, SNC-Lavalin lobbied officials in Ottawa, including senior members in the office of Mr. Trudeau, to secure a deal known as a "deferred prosecution agreement" or "remediation agreement" that would set aside the prosecution. In such deals, which are used in the United States and Britain, a company would accept responsibility for the wrongdoing and pay a financial penalty, relinquish benefits gained from the wrongdoing and put in place compliance measures. "It is unfair that the actions of one or more rogue employees should tarnish a company's reputation, as well as jeopardize its future success and its employees' livelihoods," SNC argued in a brief to federal officials in October, 2017.
But in October, 2018, SNC-Lavalin hit a major obstacle. The federal director of public prosecutions refused to negotiate a remediation agreement that would have resolved the Libyan fraud and corruption charges without prosecution. SNC-Lavalin has asked for a judicial review of the decision, citing "the extremely negative consequences the underlying legal proceedings have had and will continue to have [even in the event of an acquittal] on [SNC] and innocent stakeholders, including employees, suppliers, pensioners and stakeholders, in the absence of an invitation to negotiate."
Sources say Ms. Wilson-Raybould, who was justice minister and attorney-general until she was shuffled to Veterans Affairs early this year, came under heavy pressure to persuade the Public Prosecution Service of Canada to change its mind.
Ms. Wilson-Raybould was unwilling to instruct the director of the public prosecution service, Kathleen Roussel, to negotiate a remediation agreement with SNC-Lavalin, according to sources who were granted anonymity to speak directly about what went on behind-the-scenes in the matter.
The Prime Minister's Office issued a short statement when asked to comment on efforts to persuade Ms. Wilson-Raybould to intervene.
"Prime Minister's Office did not direct the attorney-general to draw any conclusions on this matter," press secretary Chantal Gagnon said in an e-mail to The Globe and Mail on Wednesday evening.
Sources say officials from Mr. Trudeau's office, whom they did not identify, had urged Ms. Wilson-Raybould, Canada's first Indigenous justice minister, to press the public prosecution office to abandon the court proceedings.
The Public Prosecution Service of Canada's website says with the exception of Canada Elections Act matters, the attorney-general "can issue a directive to the director of public prosecutions about a prosecution or even assume conduct of a prosecution, but must do so in writing and a notice must be published in the Canada Gazette."
Ms. Wilson-Raybould trusted the judgment of the public prosecutor and did not believe it was proper for the attorney-general to intervene, especially if there could be any suggestion of political interference, sources say. The Trudeau Liberals had criticized the former Harper government for undermining independent agencies and vowed to respect their decisions. The government has also invoked the independence of the judicial system as a reason for not intervening in the case of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. executive Meng Wanzhou, who was arrested at the Vancouver airport on an extradition request from the United States.

Cabinet shuffle in Canada
https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/trudeau-taps-two-rookies-moves-three-ministers-in-cabinet-shakeup-1.4252109
Trudeau has moved minister Jane Philpott into the newly-vacated role as president of the Treasury Board and minister of digital government. This spot needed filling after long-time MP Scott Brison announced last week that he was resigning from cabinet because he will not be seeing re-election in 2019.
Philpott moves out of her role as Indigenous services minister, a cabinet post created in 2017 as part of an effort to reset the nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous people.
That job is now Newfoundland MP Seamus O'Regan's, who is being shuffled out of the Veterans Affairs portfolio, a job he's had since joining cabinet in that same 2017 shuffle.
Jody Wilson-Raybould is out as justice minister, a job she's had since 2015, and has been shuffled into the Veterans Affairs job.
Replacing her as Canada's new justice minister and attorney general is Quebec MP David Lametti, who had been serving as a parliamentary secretary for innovation.
Lametti, who in his new position will have the final decision on the extradition of Huawei executive Meng Wangzhou.
Keeping in mind regional representation, Trudeau has promoted Nova Scotia MP Bernadette Jordan to cabinet in a new role, as minister of rural economic development.

'He was pressuring the Justice Department to drop the prosecution, pressuring them to cut a deal, to stop the trial.'
On last night's episode of the Ezra Levant Show, we discussed how Justin Trudeau's close friend and former advisor Gerald Butts escaped prosecution for his role in influencing the SNC-Lavalin indictment while Jody Wilson-Raybould has been marginalized for refusing to kowtow to Butts' pressure.
Like an episode of The Sopranos, Butts purportedly actively interfered in the prosecution of the massive engineering company SNC-Lavalin by attempting to goad the Justice Department into dropping their prosecution. For not accepting Butts' seemingly corrupt propositions, Jody Wilson-Raybould was fired from her role as justice minister.

Dirty politics: An act of revenge against Canada's Conservatives
https://www.rebelnews.com/dirty_politics_an_act_of_revenge_against_canada_s_conservatives
Charity DiPaola/McGrath is running as an independent- though she would like to have constituents mistakenly believe that she is A) the incumbent, and B) the Conservative candidate.
The riding of Richmond Hill, Ont., was the closest race in the 2019 federal election campaign. In fact, Conservative candidate Costas Menegakis went to bed as the victor on election night, but found out the next morning that after the mail-in ballots had been counted, Liberal incumbent Majid Jowhari had won the riding by a razor-thin 0.2%.
Clearly, this riding is up for grabs on Monday, and it is expected to be a horse race yet again between Menegakis and Jowhari.
So, it was surprising to see a dark horse enter the race recently: Charity DiPaola (a.k.a., Charity McGrath).
Charity DiPaola/McGrath is running as an independent, although she would like to have constituents mistakenly believe that she is A) the incumbent, and B)the Conservative candidate.
Consider Charity's signs: they are Tory blue in hue. And a prominent red banner reads: "Your Member of Parliament" (the word "candidate" appears in a font about one-third the size used in the rest of the banner). If there was an award for most deceitful election signage, Charity surely gets the gold medal.
Indeed, what is happening right now in Richmond Hill is the worst kind of dirty politics. Since Charity has absolutely no chance of winning this riding, what is truly motivating her election campaign? The answer, according to numerous sources, is revenge.
This saga goes back some three years ago when Charity DiPaola, then known as Charity McGrath, was the Ontario Progressive Conservative party candidate for Newmarket-Aurora. Alas, due to campaign irregularities and allegations of fraud (such as ballot-stuffing), the PC party decided to disqualify Charity in March 2018. The riding would go on to be represented by the current Minister of Health, Christine Elliott.
It is said that Charity also had hopes of running federally for the Conservative party. But that was not meant to be, likely because Charity simply has too much baggage.
And so it is that Charity allegedly has a chip on her shoulder, entering a tight federal race as an independent in the hopes of burning the Conservatives.
Some factors worth noting: for starters, her surname. Charity has long been known as Charity McGrath. Could it be that she has taken the surname of her husband, Joe DiPaola, the acting mayor of Richmond Hill, in order to score better name recognition? Perhaps more importantly, a Google search of "Charity DiPaola" brings up far fewer sordid stories versus a search for "Charity McGrath."
Charity's campaign literature, meanwhile, is unintentionally funny. She actually likens herself to former Liberal MP Jody Wilson-Raybould. And one of her endorsers is Richmond Hill city councillor Karen Cilevitz. Cilevitz made headlines a few years ago for bullying a cancer patient who dared to use the term "Ward 5" to promote a music festival (Cilevitz believes that as the Ward 5 councillor, only she can use such terminology). Currently, Cilevitz is facing fraud charges.
And then, as previously noted, is Charity's outrageously deceptive election signage. The end goal would appear to be that if Charity can obtain even a few hundred votes from those who believe she is the bona fide Conservative candidate of record, that might be enough to sink Costas Menekagis, the real Conservative candidate, given how tight the race was in 2019.
The Costas Menegakis campaign team recently issued a statement on the controversy. It reads, in part: "Election day is September 20, and we humbly ask you to vote for Costas Menegakis, your Conservative Candidate for Richmond Hill.
Costas has run a fantastic campaign so far, putting up thousands of signs and talking to tens of thousands of constituents. As someone who has been a Member of Parliament before, he understands the job and will be ready to serve you and Canadians on day 1.
It has come to our attention that another candidate may be representing themselves as Conservative.
Please note that there is no other Conservative Candidate in Richmond Hill."
Meanwhile, we reached out to Charity McGrath/DiPaola for comment but never received a response. Too bad, so sad... and not very charitable indeed.

Former Liberal MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes endorses Conservative candidate
https://tnc.news/2021/09/12/former-liberal-mp-celina-caesar-chavannes-endorses-conservative-candidate/
Former Liberal MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes said on Sunday that she will be voting for the Conservative candidate in her riding.
Caesar-Chavannes announced in an interview on "The West Block" on Global News that while she is a Liberal at heart, she has decided to vote for the Conservative candidate for Whitby Maleeha Shahid.
"I've never done that in my life," said Caesar-Chavannes. "But at this particular time, maybe we have to think about doing things differently."
The former Liberal MP said Canadians have the opportunity to take a different approach to politics this election by voting for the Conservatives. She hopes the Liberals will distance themselves from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In 2019, Cesar-Chavannes resigned from the Liberal caucus citing conflict with the Prime Minister. She met with Trudeau on the same day former minister of justice and attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould resigned from cabinet in the wake of the SNC-Lavalin scandal.
The SNC-Lavalin scandal saw Trudeau and the Prime Minister's Office attempt to interfere with Wilson-Raybould's decision to grant the company a deferred prosecution agreement for a criminal case. Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion found Trudeau guilty on one count of improperly using his position to seek to influence.
Caesar-Chavannes said she cried when she read the excerpt of Wilson-Raybould's new book.
"I was heartbroken because we keep continuing to reward bad behaviour from a prime minister that won a 2019 election, had a majority and a minority government for six years, and continues to say there's more to do," said Caesar-Chavannes. "I really think that rewarding bad behaviour is not something Canadians should do any further."
Wilson-Raybould's book, called "'Indian' in the Cabinet: Speaking Truth to Power," will be released on Tuesday. Wilson-Raybould said in the description of her book that she will tell the full story of the SNC-Lavalin scandal.
When asked about Caesar-Chavannes' comments on Sunday, Trudeau said at a press conference that he wishes her all the best.
"People have a really important choice to make in this election," said Trudeau. "Mr. O'Toole wants to take Canada back, take it back to 1951, apparently."

Conservatives call for ethics commissioner to investigate minister of transport
https://tnc.news/2021/08/29/conservatives-call-for-ethics-commissioner-to-investigate-minister-of-transport/
The Conservative Party of Canada has requested Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion look into Canadian Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra for appearing to engage in a conflict of interest.
The Liberal candidate for Brampton Centre Shafqat Ali said in a now-deleted tweet sent on Friday that he would be holding a campaign fundraiser at the Havelly Grill Restaurant and Banquet Hall on Wednesday. The tweet said Alghabra would be the guest of honour.
Tickets to the event cost $500. Tickets were eligible for a tax credit of more than $300.
The Conflict of Interest Act seeks to prevent conflicts between private interests and the duties of public office holders. Public office holders are prohibited from providing preferential treatment to any person or organization based on the identity representing it.
The Conservatives said in a tweet on Friday that what Alghabra is doing could be construed as a conflict of interest.
"It might be an election, but Omar Alghabra is still selling access to Justin Trudeau's government," said the Conservatives. "Conservatives will be asking the Ethics Commissioner to initiate an investigation."
Ali and Alghabra could not be reached for comment in time for publication.
Dion can investigate any public office holder or former official at the request of a member of the House of Commons or Senate, or he can do so on his own initiative if he believes a person has contravened a particular section of the Conflict of Interest Act.
This incident is the latest in investigations into Liberal politicians over the last few years.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been found guilty twice for violating the Conflict of Interest Act. The first time was in 2017 for travelling to the private island owned by the Aga Khan, and the second time was in 2019 for attempting to influence former minister of justice and attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould.

Disqualified Conservative Yukon candidate Jonas Smith to run as independent
https://tnc.news/2021/08/17/disqualified-conservative-yukon-candidate-jonas-smith-to-run-as-independent/
The Yukon candidate disqualified by the Conservative Party of Canada over opposition to vaccine passports and employer vaccine mandates will be running as an independent.
Jonas Smith, a mining industry advocate and former Conservative national councillor, was removed as a candidate last week over what the Conservative party said was an "unwillingness to support public health guidelines."
Smith said it was about his "opposition to calls for implementation of mandated workplace vaccinations and vaccine passport requirements in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic."
Smith ran for the Conservatives in 2019, but lost to Liberal Larry Bagnell by 153 votes. With Bagnell retiring, Smith was set to seek the seat for the Conservatives again when Canadians go to the polls Sept. 20.
Sources connected to the Conservative Party of Canada tell True North the party's National Candidate Selection Committee formally approved Smith's disqualification on the weekend. The nomination rules allow a candidate to appeal disqualification to National Council, though Smith said this path would be fruitless.
"I have undergone some of the process available to me, but it's clear to me that when the central campaign doesn't want you on, then regardless of the outcome of any process, that sentiment remains," Smith said in an interview with True North.
Smith said he's optimistic he can win as an independent, noting that Yukon has elected members of parliament from all three major federal parties in the past.
"This is an opportunity to represent Yukoners regardless of party stripe," he said. "I'm doing this in response to the overwhelming outpouring of encouragement for me to do so. I narrowly lost the last election and I've got thousands upon thousands of supporters here in the territory that want me to do this."
Smith pointed to Jody Wilson-Raybould's success in 2019 as an independent candidate after being kicked out of the Liberal caucus, suggesting voters respond favourably to principled politicians.
"Integrity transcends politics," Smith said.
The Conservatives have not yet named a replacement candidate in the Yukon riding.

Our reporter Drea Humphrey was physically manhandled by Justin Trudeau's personal bodyguards for simply asking questions Trudeau didn't like.
Drea, an accomplished journalist and a registered member of the Independent Press Gallery, was invited to attend Trudeau's campaign press conferences in British Columbia, during his pre-election swing through the province. She asked Trudeau about the wave of arson targeting churches across Canada.
Trudeau refused to take her questions and walked away from the podium to pose for selfies with the public. Drea politely walked beside him, asking her questions again. She was never threatening or abusive, never blocked his path and never posed any physical danger to Trudeau whatsoever - she was simply asking him questions he didn't like.
Trudeau brushed her off, and a squad of Trudeau's RCMP bodyguards immediately swooped in, physically grabbed her, and pulled her away from asking her questions.
This is simply unacceptable in a liberal democracy, but it fits with Trudeau's growing reputation of a thin-skinned politician who can't stand criticism, especially from strong women - just ask Jody Wilson-Raybould.
Trudeau prefers to call on hand-picked journalists that he can control - usually CBC state broadcasters, or reporters from the bail-out newspapers. But calling in his armed bodyguards to physically assault Drea is a new low, even for Trudeau.
Please help us fight back:
1. Sign our petition to Trudeau, telling him to call off his bullies, and stop ordering the RCMP to assault journalists.
2. Read our complaint letter to the RCMP complaints commission, drafted by our general counsel.
If this is how Trudeau behaves now, you know it's only going to get worse during the stress of the campaign. We've got to nip this in the bud - sign our petition now, and if you can help us cover the cost of our lawyers' intervention, you can do that by clicking here, too. (Thank you.)
And one more thing: you can be sure, having Trudeau's tough guys push her around isn't going to stop Drea from being Vancouver's most effective independent reporter!

Four Liberal donor judges appointed in one day by Trudeau government
https://www.rebelnews.com/four_liberal_donor_judges_appointed_in_one_day_by_trudeau_government
Justin Trudeau's Attorney General David Lametti appointed four Liberal Party donors as judges in Ontario and Quebec in a single day last week.
According to a report from Blacklock's:
[Daniel Urbas, now a Québec Superior Court judge] had donated $9,351 to various Liberal Party organizers including $1,200 to Attorney General Lametti's 2015 campaign, according to federal filings.
…Lawyer Louis Charette of Montréal was also appointed a Superior Court judge in Québec. Charette had donated $6,232 to Liberal Party campaigns including $2,000 to then-leadership candidate Michael Ignatieff in 2009.
Jill Presser, a Toronto lawyer, was appointed an Ontario Superior Court judge. Presser was a regular donor to the Party with contributions totaling $6,189.
William Black of Toronto was appointed an Ontario Superior Court judge. Black's law firm did not comment on Elections Canada records indicating a Toronto lawyer by the identical name had donated $4,523 to the Liberal Party since 2019.
Last month, the Commons Justice Committee rejected a motion from Conservative MP Michael Cooper (St. Albert-Edmonton) to review the judicial appointments of Liberal donors.
In an email circulated to the Committee, Cooper cited former AG Jody Wilson-Raybould and brought up the use of the Liberal Party's donor database, the 'Liberalist', in the appointments process:
Former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould validated those concerns of political interference directed by the PMO when she noted, "During my time as minister, there were people in the centre, the Prime Minister's Office, other ministers, Liberal partisans, who would take great interest in the appointments process".
…Now we know that for six years Liberalist was used to vet 100% of candidates for judicial appointment. We further know that 25% of the judicial appointments made by this government just happen to be Liberal donors. What a coincidence.
Before the motion was voted down, Liberal MP James Maloney (Etobicoke-Lakeshore) called it "incredibly offensive."

Bill C-10 dies - for now - as Senate adjourns for summer without vote
https://tnc.news/2021/07/03/bill-c-10-dies-for-now-as-senate-adjourns-for-summer-without-vote/
The Liberal government's internet regulation Bill C-10 has been put on hold after the Senate rose for the summer before voting on the controversial bill.
On Tuesday, the Senate decided to rise for the summer break, immediately halting all outstanding legislation which had not been passed.
If an election is called before Bill C-10 is reintroduced, the bill will die and a future government would have to introduce it again.
Bill C-10 passed its third reading in the House of Commons Tuesday morning by a vote of 196 to 112: only the Conservatives and independents Jody Wilson-Raybould and Derek Sloan opposed it.
If passed, Bill C-10 would have significant implications on internet freedom, as the bill gives the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) unprecedented power to regulate online publishers, including social media users.
Despite the Liberals' efforts to push C-10 into law, the upper house refused to speed up the process. Both progressive and Conservative senators offered various criticisms of C-10, many saying they would not vote in favour.
On Tuesday, Senator Pamela Wallin pledged to stall C-10 until the summer recess could be called, saying the upper house is not obligated to pass government legislation without proper debate.
"The government has had six years to pass legislation it wants. It is not our job in the Senate to rubber stamp and give up our constitutional responsibilities just because they want fodder for an election- especially if it means killing free speech," she said.
Conservative Senator Leo Housakos told CBC that the Senate had no interest in rushing through a bill which, in his opinion, gives unlimited power to a government body to control the content Canadians can see online.
"The core problem with this bill is that it takes the regulatory tools designated for a small, fixed number of licensed TV and radio stations in the 1990s and attempts to apply it to the vast universe of the internet in the 2020s," he said.
"In doing so, it gives the CRTC an unprecedented delegation of power with no clear framework or definitions as to how it will be used. This lack of clear limits on what can be regulated is a fundamental problem with this bill."

Green Party leader takes shots at Trudeau's social justice credentials
https://tnc.news/2021/06/16/green-party-leader-takes-shots-at-trudeaus-social-justice-credentials/
Green Party Leader Annamie Paul took shots at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while giving a speech in which she accused fellow party members of waging a "racist" attack on her leadership.
Paul held a press conference on Wednesday, following a non-confidence vote levelled against her.
"A small group of councillors sought to force a vote of no-confidence in my leadership. They did so with no substantive consultation with the members they represent. They produced a list of allegations that were so racist, so sexist, that they were immediately disavowed by both our MPs as offensive and inflammatory and contrary to party ethics," Paul told reporters.
According to a copy of allegation of non-confidence obtained by Global News, party members said Paul "has acted with an autocratic attitude of hostility, superiority and rejection."
Members also accused the Green Party leader of "failing to develop a collaborative working relationship, failing to engage in respectful discussions, and failing to use dialogue and compromise."
"She has attended few council meetings, and when in attendance, has displayed anger in long, repetitive, aggressive monologues and has failed to recognize the value of any ideas except her own, acting in a manner not in compliance with the leader's role and responsibilities," the allegation reads.
The internal party feud reached its boiling point earlier this week after former Green Party MP Jenica Atwin crossed the floor to the Liberals over dissenting views on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
During her speech, Paul also accused Trudeau of faking his social justice views and not being a real "ally" or a feminist.
"The Liberal Party of Canada has demonstrated that it is hell bent on winning their majority at almost any cost. By their admission, in recent days, they have sought to sow division, and to create disarray," said Paul.
"That claim that they are allies is one where they talk the talk without walking the walk. To the prime minister, Justin Trudeau, you are no ally and you are no feminist."
Paul also accused Trudeau of failing to support "strong, capable, competent women" in politics and "pushing them out" of the party fold when things don't go his way.
At the height of the SNC-Lavalin political interference scandal in 2019, several women - including former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould - left the Liberal Party caucus after it was revealed that Trudeau attempted to interfere in the justice system.
Upon Wilson-Raybould's departure, former Liberal cabinet minister Jane Philpott also left the party, followed by the departure of Liberal MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes.
Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion eventually found the prime minister guilty of breaking ethics laws a second time over his conduct in the affair.

https://tnc.news/2021/06/03/liberals-paid-snc-lavalin-150-million-for-hospitals-that-nobody-needed/
The Liberal government paid SNC-Lavalin $150 million for mobile field hospitals that nobody requested, testimony by the deputy minister of public works revealed during a House of Commons government operations committee meeting.
According to Blacklock's Reporter, none of the hospitals were ever used since they were not needed by the Public Health Agency of Canada or any of the provinces.
On April 9, 2020, the Liberal government awarded the contract to SNC-Lavalin which included a $26,173,758 cash advance so that the company could procure five field hospitals.
"None have been deployed yet because they have not yet been requested by the provinces," said deputy minister of public works Bill Matthews.
Upon being pressed by Conservative members of the committee, Matthews was unable to answer who exactly had requested the hospitals be built.
"Whose decision was it? We heard it had to be sole-sourced to SNC-Lavalin because it was urgent. No province requested them before it was determined to be urgent, and ordered. So who came up with the decision?" asked Conservative MP Kelly McCauley.
"I realize that, but was it the Public Health Agency that requested it? Who requested them?" said MP McCauley.
"It was the department that first identified the need," replied Matthews without going into specifics.
Internal memos show that the Liberal government believed that due to the urgency of the pandemic, no public bidding was required when the contract was first awarded.
"The federal government was required to act with urgency to address a possible surge in demand on our health care system and in order to protect the health and safety of Canadians," a memo writes.
"Given this emergent need for additional capacity, the agreements were put in place quickly."
In 2019, a former SNC-Lavalin executive was charged and convicted for bribery, fraud and laundering the proceeds of a crime over the company's past dealings in Libya.
In the same year, reports emerged that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had attempted to pressure former Liberal Minister of Justice Jody Wilson-Raybould to intervene on behalf of SNC-Lavalin in a criminal persecution. Eventually, the Office of the Ethics Commissioner ruled that Trudeau had broken ethics laws in his attempt to interfere in the justice system.

Media pounce to call O'Toole "sexist," ignore Liberal's anti-women record
https://tnc.news/2021/05/25/media-pounce-to-call-otoole-sexist-ignore-liberals-anti-women-record/
Mainstream media journalists and Liberal supporters pounced on the opportunity to imply Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole was "sexist" over the long weekend, despite the Liberal government's abysmal record when it comes to women's issues.
On Friday, O'Toole tweeted about how his wife had a "cold one waiting" for him after his run and soon after political pundits like Evan Solomon jumped on the opportunity to imply that O'Toole's framing of tweet was an "old stereotype" about women.
Although Solomon's tweet received quick backlash from Canadians, other Liberal commentators joined in, implying O'Toole was sexist for the tweet.
Currently Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government is being accused by the opposition of covering up a sexual harassment scandal at the highest levels of the Canadian military.
Liberal Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan was implicated in the scandal after it was revealed that in 2018 he refused to see evidence regarding allegations made against retired general Jonathan Vance. Since then, a number of other victims have come forward with allegations regarding senior members of the Canadian military.
The Liberal government's shoddy history around women's rights doesn't end there. Trudeau himself once faced allegations that he groped a female reporter nearly 20 years ago while at a music festival.
In response to the allegations, Trudeau claimed that the victim might have experienced the interaction "differently."
Additionally, Trudeau was also blasted for being anti-woman after he kicked out former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould from his cabinet after she revealed that the prime minister tried to interfere in the SNC-Lavalin trial.
Since the Liberal government was elected in 2015, a number of Liberal MPs have also faced serious allegations including former Liberal MP Marwan Tabbara who is facing criminal harassment and other charges. In 2019, the Liberals decided to allow Tabbara to run for the party despite facing an internal probe into sexual harassment allegations made against him.
In 2015, MPs Massimo Pacetti and Scott Andrews were kicked out of the Liberal caucus over accusations of harassment made by two NDP MPs.
In 2016 and 2017, MPs Darshan Kang and Hunter Tootoo, as well as the PMO deputy director of operations Claude-Éric Gagné, were also accused of inappropriate behaviour or sexual harassment.

2. CPPIB, Blackrock, Mark Wiseman
CANADA'S DEEP STATE Part 2
Now that ambassador Dominic Barton has been identified as the architect, let's look at some of his buddies and their connections with BlackRock and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB)
Born in Niagara Falls Ontario, Mark Wiseman became a Senior Managing Director at BlackRock NYC in 2016 as Global Head of Active Equities for BlackRock and Chairman of BlackRock Alternative Investors. He also serves as Chairman of the firm's Global Investment Committee and on its Global Executive Committee.
He was President and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) 2012-2016 after starting there in 2005 as Senior Vice-President, Private Investments.
Prior to joining CPPIB, Mark was responsible for the private equity fund and co-investment program at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. He has worked at Harrowston Inc., a publicly traded Canadian merchant bank, and as a lawyer with Sullivan & Cromwell, where he practiced in New York and Paris.
He also served as a law clerk to Madam Justice Beverley McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada - ring a bell? During the Justice Committee hearings with Jody Wilson-Raybould about the SNC-Lavalin Scandal, Buttsputin & Clerk of the Privy Council had insisted Jody talk with her for "advice".
But the BlackRock ties don't stop there.
BlackRock Canada CEO is Marcia Moffat since 2015- who just happens to be Mark Wiseman's wife - based in Toronto. Mark returns home to Toronto on weekends from New York. She was formerly with RBC under Janice Fukakusa (see pic)
Wiseman is also the Chairman of FCLTGlobal (formerly Focusing Capital on the Long Term), an organization that encourages longer-term approaches in business and investing, which was set up by BlackRock, CPPIB, Dow, McKinsey & Company and Tata in 2016.
Mark is also a member of the Advisory Council on Economic Growth, which advises Finance Minister MORNEAU on economic policies to achieve long-term, sustainable growth. Mark serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including Sinai Health Services in Toronto, the Capital Markets Institute and the Dean's Advisory Board at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
At CPPIB, Wiseman made a name for himself by opening offices and pursuing investments abroad, particularly in South America and South Asia.
CPP investment chief Mark Wiseman to make surprise exit after nearly four years at helm.
While the one source characterized his departure as amicable, another source familiar with CPPIB's inner workings said there was friction on leadership issues.
"...some questioned whether it was only the CPP's interests that were being promoted" His years as CEO at CPPIB have been marked by a stream of deals, ranging from a lucrative early investment in Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba.
In 2015 - Why the head of Canada's biggest pension fund is bullish on energy.
Mark Wiseman says CPPIB is looking at a range of investments from buying equity and partnering on acquisitions to outright takeovers
Mark Wiseman, who runs Canada's biggest pension fund, offered the Davos crowd last week a two-pronged argument on why he's bullish on energy assets after the recent plunge in oil prices.
Wiseman said that simple supply and demand perspective all but guarantees oil prices will be higher 10 years down the road, offering investment opportunities now for the $234 billion fund. "I'll take that bet" on oil's rebound, he said in an interview Tuesday at Bloomberg's Toronto office.
"We see a lot of value in the Western Canadian basin," he said, noting that oil sands projects are on his radar.
"WE LIKE COMPANIES THAT HAVE GOOD UNDERLYING ASSETS AND BAD BALANCE SHEETS. That's the perfect scenario for us."
-> premonition?
He encouraged the Canadian federal and provincial governments to look to jurisdictions like Australia, where state governments are given incentives to invest in infrastructure and court outside funding.
In the meantime, Canada Pension is looking to places like China, India and Brazil.

Roundup: Vetting judges? Oh noes! Posted on April 25, 2019
"Yesterday the Globe and Mail had a story about how the current government
will run potential judicial nominees through the Liberal party's voter database
as part of the vetting process, which was followed by an analysis of how many
appointees were Liberal donors. This first came up weeks ago when yet another
Jody Wilson-Raybould-related leak revealed that she was trying to "depoliticize"
the appointment process by not providing certain information to PMO
when she passed along recommendations,
which is a problem
- not that it was framed that way.
This current story follows up on that, and has a few framing issues of its own."

"She wanted someone to be apolitical for this position,

What Jody Wilson Raybould found out about SNC?
1. Saudi arabia financed SNC contracts in exchange for blocking energy east.
2. SNC used the Saudi financing to bring PM to head of liberal party and they own him. Their money bought the votes to make him leader and take down Harper.
3.SNC demanded that their bought and paid for pm buy transmountain (1 billion over asking I'm sure SNC got a cut).
4.SNC also demanded that they pick their price for and win all contracts for transmountain. No worries they sub everything out anyways.
5. SNC are bribing first nations to sign off on letting the pipeline thru. The first nations that already agree have been bribed. The ones that won't sign on are the few that couldn't be bought.

When the Canadian government entered into an agreement with BlackRock in 2017, what occurred was an amalgamation with the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB). In doing so, Canada became a subsidiary of the world construction cartel. They are operating above the law since that is exactly where these systems were created.

Fresh documents keep up pressure on Canada's Trudeau over scandal
David Ljunggren
OTTAWA (Reuters) - A former cabinet member at the heart of a crisis that could cost Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau his job on Friday released documents to back up her case that she had been pressured to help a large corporation avoid a corruption trial.
Trudeau has been on the defensive since Feb. 7 over allegations that officials inappropriately leaned on former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould last year to ensure construction company SNC-Lavalin Group Inc escaped a trial by paying a fine instead.
The crisis may well threaten Trudeau's reelection chances in a vote this October. Polls show his centre-left Liberals, who as recently as January looked certain to win, could lose to the official opposition Conservatives.
Wilson-Raybould made public around 40 pages of documents revealing more details of what she said were attempts by officials to force her change her mind even after she insisted they desist.
Wilson-Raybould, who was demoted to veterans affairs minister in January and resigned the following month, first made the allegations in almost four hours of testimony to the House of Commons justice committee last month.
Trudeau says officials were trying to make Wilson-Raybould understand that thousands of jobs would be at risk if SNC-Lavalin were found guilty of bribing Libyan officials. Trudeau insists he and his team did nothing wrong.
The affair has so far cost Trudeau two high-profile female cabinet ministers, his closest personal aide and the head of the federal bureaucracy, Michael Wernick.
Wilson-Raybould included a recording of a phone call with Wernick last December in which he told her he was worried about "a collision" between her and Trudeau "because he is pretty firm about this."
Wilson-Raybould, who stressed she thought the call was inappropriate, told Wernick she was waiting "for the other shoe to drop" because she was under no illusion about how Trudeau "gets things that he wants."

Yachts, hotel and condo paid to son Gaddafi
40 minutes ago Number of comments:
6-8 minutes
SNC-Lavalin planned to offer a $ 35 million luxury Bombardier private jet to bribe a son of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi shortly before the Arab Spring broke out, according to a former senior executive of the company.
[...] It cost $ 35 million at the time, "he explained.

Frank Iacobucci's name popped up a couple of times in Jody Wilson-Raybould's bombshell Feb. 27 testimony before the House of Commons justice committee about allegations of political interference in her last months as attorney general of Canada.
Some First Nations in British Columbia will also recognize the name from recent invitations to attend talks about the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.
Jody Wilson-Raybould said Canada's top public servant told her that Frank Iacobucci "is not a shrinking violet." The retired Supreme Court justice, now in the news over his role as lawyer for SNC-Lavalin, is also PM Trudeau's special envoy on #TMX
Iacobucci is a retired Supreme Court justice and lawyer for Torys LLP, whom Quebec engineering and construction company SNC-Lavalin hired to help it secure a plea deal and avoid a criminal conviction on corruption charges.

SNC-Lavalin announced confidential deal with feds, four days after Trudeau's first throne speech in 2015
Four days after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberals opened their first session of Parliament with a throne speech in 2015, the federal government entered into a new confidential deal with SNC-Lavalin.
The Quebec construction and engineering giant touted the deal in December of that year, noting that it would allow it to continue scoring lucrative public contracts with the federal government. But to this day, the details and content of this deal remain a secret.
The agreement is different from the deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) that former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould has testified she was improperly pressured into pursuing by the prime minister, his senior officials and the country's top public servant.
Both agreements are meant to address the fraud and corruption charges hanging over the Montreal-based engineering firm. But while Wilson-Raybould's replacement, David Lametti, is still considering offering a DPA, the administrative agreement was long ago successfully enacted. It remains on the books, more than three years later.
Public Services and Procurement Canada reached the deal with SNC-Lavalin that took effect on Dec. 8, 2015, which was the Tuesday following the government's first and only throne speech. SNC-Lavalin's deal was the first under what the government described as its new "integrity regime," and no other company has reached any similar arrangement, according to the department's list of agreements on its website.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau allegedly screamed at Liberal MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes when she originally informed him that she would not be seeking re-election this coming October.
According to a Globe and Mail article, the MP informed Trudeau that she would not be seeking re-election around the same time as Jody Wilson-Raybould's resignation.
She allegedly told the PM that political life had seriously harmed her family life, and in response, according to Ms. Chavannes, the Prime Minister grew hostile and yelled at her. Specifically, he allegedly claimed that the MP did not appreciate him, especially when he had provided her with so much.
"He was yelling. He was yelling that I didn't appreciate him, that he'd given me so much," Caesar-Chavannes said.

The hidden key to the SNC-Lavalin scandal
By Sandy Garossino in Analysis, Business, Politics | March 8th 2019
Or have to re-assemble brutalized women and girls.

ot surprisingly, Press Progress also reported that "more than half of the Canada Infrastructure Bank's Board of Directors have Liberal Connections."
In 2006, Stephen Harper's first act as prime minister was to implement The Director of Prosecutions Act, an independent prosecutor's office designed to prevent future occurrences of corruption and allow public scrutiny. It worked perfectly! In fact, from that same article, Jody Wilson-Raybould tells us that Gerald Butts had "talked to me about how the statute was set up by Harper (and) that he does not like the law".
Guaranteed loans for this Infrastructure Bank project are just one issue. Another is that loans are only granted when a corporation or foundation proposal aligns with specific obligations. Terence Corcoran explains:
Corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainable development, environmental and social corporate governance (ESG), impact investing, triple bottom line, social finance - no CEO in any major industry can deliver a speech without confirming his company's dedication to one or all of the above along with a host of other politically correct objectives.
Corporations are being forced to abide with the UN Global Compact in order to obtain funding. Wasn't it the Trudeau Liberals that said the UN Global Compact was not legally binding?
Throughout the article mentioned above, you will see how investment in Alberta's oil sector is hampered by the political correctness imposed on corporations by the social economic model:
The rainforest should also be no place for bank CSR activities. But, in 2008, RBC pledged $500,000 to the Tides Canada Foundation to help fund the Great Bear Rainforest protection racket. Tides, whose objective is to kill Alberta's oil sands, raised millions to close off 64,000 square kilometers of British Columbia forest. In other words, RBC's corporate social responsibility - funded through its "Blue Water Project" - helped set up a rainforest that now serves as a barrier to getting Alberta oil to market.
This article also provides a brief summation of Canada's Investment Bank and the new social economy: "It's just lending out government money" says Caron. "That's not what the Infrastructure Bank is supposed to be about."
Indeed, the Bank's purpose is to receive private equity and invest it in Canadian infrastructure, not lend government money. And with time ticking away, repackaging old deals as new ones suggests things are not working out. "I have not heard of a single private firm that has decided to invest in the Infrastructure Bank," says Caron. Meanwhile, transit is still delayed, schools and community centres are still in disrepair, and social housing still isn't being built.
Back in 2006, developing the social economy in Canada was a mere idea written in the minutes of a meeting attended by corporate elite and policy makers. In 2019, the Social Investment Bank has materialized. It is our intention, here at CIN, to dig deeper into this subject. In the few years that social finance programs have existed, government has not spent tax-dollars to fund infrastructure projects for the social economy. This is an entirely new venture that will ultimately consume billions of dollars, all on the backs of the Canadian taxpayer, and all going towards non-profit initiatives. Brace yourselves, the red-wave is definitely upon us!

The SNC-Lavalin scandal, which is all over the news in Canada this week, is connected back to key #NXIVM "sex cult" personalities such as the Bronfmans through Al-Saadi Gadhafi, son of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. Tweet
The Edmonton Sun is reporting that SNC-Lavalin allegedly paid for a sex-filled trip across Canada for Al-Saadi Gadhafi. "Security firm Garda World was hired by SNC to escort Gaddafi across the country as he picked up escorts in city after city." Tweet
According to the Canadian federal police (RCMP), "Al-Saadi Gadhafi, the son of dictator Col. Muammar Gaddafi was paid $160-million in kickbacks for steering major contracts in Libya to SNC-Lavalin, Canada's biggest engineering and construction company." Tweet
Former exec Ben Aissa is currently jailed in Switzerland accused of laundering tens of millions of dollars to pay himself and Saadi Gadhafi. He is charged with bribing the Gadhafi regime, defrauding shareholders and pocketing millions of company money. Tweet
Yesterday, the former Attorney General of Canada, Jody Wilson-Raybould, testified that she was pressured to interfere in the SNC-Lavalin case by the Prime Minister's Office including by Justin Trudeau himself. Tweet
As mentioned previously in this thread, significant control personalities behind the complicated #NXIVM "sex cult" entity in Albany, New York, were deeply involved in Libya and are currently accused of sex trafficking in the Eastern District of New York. Tweet
Seagram's heiress Sara Bronfman, widely regarded as a financier of the #NXIVM cult, married Libyan national Basit Igtet and was appointed the U.S. Libyan Chamber of Commerce. She is the cousin of Trudeau's chief fundraiser, Stephen Bronfman. Tweet
It is unclear exactly why Justin Trudeau tried to arrange what has been called a "protection racket" for SNC-Lavalin, and how Trudeau may have been influenced by his chief fundraiser, Stephen Bronfman. Tweet

Here it comes. JWR is being kept from prosecuting Hells Angels because of Carolyn Bennett's family.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/indigenous/raybould-wernick-framework-1.5029144
The federal government's top bureaucrat revealed Thursday that Jody Wilson-Raybould, the former Justice minister, was locked in a fierce battle with Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett and other ministers over the direction of a promised piece of legislation central to the government's reconciliation agenda.

Was seltsam ist.
Genau wann. Sie nannte Namen. Einschließlich des Premierministers selbst. Hier ist ihre Aussage:
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/read-Jody-Wilson-Rayboulds-full-remarks-to-the-house-of-commons-justice-committee
