Would-be assassin Ryan Wesley Routh challenges Trump to golf game in bizarre court filing: 'he wins he can execute me'
Published Sep. 2, 2025 Updated Sep. 2, 2025, 6:56 p.m. ET
Ryan Wesley Routh, who is accused of laying in wait to assassinate then-candidate Donald Trump at his South Florida golf course this past September, challenged the commander in chief to hit the links in a bizarre one-page court filing
"A roung [sic] of golf with the racist pig, he wins he can execute me, I win I get his job," wrote Routh, who is representing himself in his federal criminal trial at the end of a bad-tempered motion to exclude prosecutorial evidence.
"sorry [sic] hillbilly Vance," the filing adds in a parenthetical note.
Routh, 59, also expressed a desire to "beatdown" the president in his unhinged missive.
"I think a beatdown session would be more fun and entertaining for everyone; give me shackles and cuffs and let the old fat man give it his worst," he wrote.
"Carpet is red, isn' t it, no harm in blood," Routh added.
The filing is the latest in a string of deranged jailhouse letters written by the would-be assassin.
Routh has previously pleaded to Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case, to "trade me away" to China, Iran, North Korea or Hamas, as part of a prisoner swap.
He's also compared himself to George Bailey, the character famously played by Jimmy Stewart in the 1946 Christmas film "It's a Wonderful Life," expressed support for anti-Israel college campus protesters, and raged that Trump has "destroyed the MidEast [sic]" in other rambling notes.
Routh is currently locked up in a Miami federal prison as he awaits trial on the attempted assassination of Trump.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in a Fort Pierce federal court. Barring delays, the trial will start on Sept. 11.
Prosecutors have said Routh methodically plotted to kill Trump for weeks before he aimed a rifle through the shrubbery along the fence line of Trump International Golf Club West PalmBeach, as the then-Republican presidential nominee played golf on Sept. 15, 2024.
Before Trump came into view, Routh was spotted by a Secret Service agent.
Routh allegedly aimed his rifle at the agent, who opened fire, causing Routh to drop his weapon and flee without firing a shot.
Routh was apprehended by law enforcement after being pulled over on a nearby interstate.
He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.

The following morning, I auditioned. I did my fairly good impressions of Jimmy Stewart, Charles Boyer and Akim Tamiroff and also dared to do a Shakespearean double talk impression of Major Evans' saliva-spraying delivery, which, thankfully, did not seem to upset him. Both he and his aide, Captain Ludden, agreed that I would be a welcome addition to their troupe and, with the aid of General Richardson, the head of the Central Pacific Base Command, I was transferred to Major Evans' entertainment section and performed at Army bases throughout the Central Pacific.

My "in the know friends" went to the "Sound of Freedom" today, this is their comments:
We just saw Sound of Freedom. Wow. Could heard a pin drop for 2 hours. Surrounded by all ages. We all applauded at the end. Powerful. So many numbers and phrases. The nod to the MILLSTONES my fucking favorite. Watch it. Feel the good people around you. Its a God moment for sure. Love u Anon. KEEP FIGHTING NEVER STOP!!
When he said the millstone bit I think I whooped out loud. I pointed at the screen YES. People literally barely moved. My hands were fists. Brings back the searing anger all over my body. No one will understand our journey unless they were there from the beginning. Couldn't eat pizza for months I remember.
Don't forget, the plan started long long ago. Easily movies could be in the works. Jim Caviezel says at the end how difficult it was to get produced. Pedos I guess stopping at every point in Pedowood. Just like Its A Wonderful Life took 10-12 years. Jimmy Stewart waited all that time. They hate anything with God, angels, and virtues and hope.
Its been a long horrid journey. But those people surrounding us in a nearly sold out movie on Sunday afternoon gives us HOPE !!!!!!
We were silent on way home. Radio on low. What comes on….WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT!!!!!God nod :)

Trump announces 200 statues to be built for 'American heroes'
Trump's decision to implement this "National Garden of American Heroes" was a counter to the statues of "American heroes" being destroyed and removed last summer.
Updated: January 18, 2021 - 7:32pm
Dig In
President Donald Trump announced the names on Monday of more than 200 statues to be built as part of his plan for a new "National Garden of American Heroes."
He said the new garden will demolish the "reckless attempt to erase our heroes" that occurred during last year's protests and riots that occurred following the death of George Floyd, according to the Washington Times.
The list of names is headlined by author Harper Lee, actor Jimmy Stewart, abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe, baseball star Roberto Clemente and explorer Christopher Columbus.
"In the peace and harmony of this vast outdoor park, visitors will come and learn the amazing stories of some of the greatest Americans who have ever lived," Trump said in a new executive order, which lists all of the names.
The announcement came on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Both King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, made Trump's list.
Trump left himself off of the list despite being nominated by several people as part of the selection process, government officials said last year.
He first announced the list of names to be honored last summer as Black Lives Matter protests were occurring across the nation and statues recalling American history, such as Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, were being torn down.
Trump's decision to implement this "National Garden of American Heroes" was a counter to the statues of "American heroes" being destroyed and removed last summer.
His original list of 31 names received criticism for being too short and lacking diversity, as it consisted mainly of white men. Trump's new list is much longer and much more diverse, including Native Americans, women and other minority groups.
Whether this idea will be moved forward rests in the hands of President-elect Joe Biden as he takes office this week. He could completely eliminate Trump's proposed list, alter the list of names or push it forward as is.

'Ambassador Tina Kaidanow, senior adviser for international cooperation, has left the Pentagon, the Department of Defense confirmed to Defense News Wednesday.
Why it matters: She's the fifth top official in seven days to exit or announce their departure from the Pentagon, according to Defense News and The Hill.
The big picture: Per the two news outlets, Kaidanow left her role on Dec. 16. It was announced on Dec. 12 that Randall Schriver, the top Asia policy official, would leave his position soon. A day later, Jimmy Stewart, the acting undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, said he was retiring.
Steven Walker, head of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, will leave in January "for an industry job," Defense News reported Tuesday.
Earlier Wednesday, the Defense Department confirmed to the military news outlet that Kari Bingen, principal deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence, would step down next month.
What they're saying: A Department of Defense spokesperson told The Hill the service of long-time official Kaidanow was appreciated and he wishes her well.
DOD spokesperson Lt. Col. Michael Andrews told Defense News the department was "committed to the development and implementation of international cooperative programs and defense exportability efforts to foster cooperation with U.S. allies on research, development, production and support of weapons systems and related equipment."
"The department will not provide anything further on this personnel matter," Andrews added.'

Kari Bingen
Bingen was the Defense Department's No. 2 intelligence official and has been in the role since May 2017. Prior to that, she served as the House Armed Services Committee's policy director for four years and held a number of other positions on the committee's strategic forces panel.
Her announced departure follows three others within seven days: the Dec. 12 notification that top Asia policy official Randall Schriver would leave after two years on the job; the Dec. 13 announcement that top official in charge of personnel and readiness Jimmy Stewart had resigned after a little over a year on the job; and on Tuesday Defense News reported that Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency leader Steven Walker will leave in January for a private-sector job.
Those four vacancies add to a number of openings within the Defense Department, with six of the 21 deputy assistant secretary of Defense policy jobs still empty. Several other roles are filled in an acting capacity, including chief management officer, comptroller, deputy undersecretary of Defense for policy, and assistant Defense secretary for international security affairs.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper earlier this week downplayed the departures, telling reporters that there is a "rhythm" to people leaving and taking positions and said there was already a replacement for Stewart.
"You'll probably see another couple of - some more announcements are coming up soon," Esper said on Monday while flying back to the U.S. from Belgium.
"Again, that's a normal rotation, folks have been at it hard for two years now, two-plus years. You have this happen even last year."
He added that it's important to "get people in place as quickly as possible. If not confirmed, at least acting," and keep moving the Pentagon forward.

Pentagon Personnel Chief is Latest DoD Leader to Resign
A retired Air Force general performing the duties of the under secretary of defense for Personnel and Readiness at the Defense Department has resigned, according to the Pentagon.
Without citing a specific reason, Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced in a statement Friday that James 'Jimmy' Stewart had stepped down from the position.
"Today, I accepted the resignation of Jimmy Stewart," Esper said.
Stewart, who was confirmed as the assistant secretary of defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs in October 2018, "has been filling the under secretary role since then, a role that is critical to the National Defense Strategy, in support of our families and readiness," Esper said.
"I note that Jimmy came out of retirement, after having served 37 years in the Air Force, to serve his country again. It's people like Jimmy, the selfless individuals who put service before self, who are the backbone of this country. I thank Jimmy and his family for their service to the department and the nation, and wish him the best in his retirement," he added.

Matt Donovan, the under secretary of the Air Force who served as acting Air Force Secretary until Barbara Barrett's recent confirmation, will step into the role vacated by Stewart, Esper said.
Donovan will still maintain his current role as Air Force under secretary until Dec. 27. When he transitions to performing duties as the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness for DoD, Shon Manasco, the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, will take over as Air Force under secretary.
"Under Secretary Donovan's steady leadership and work improving the force's readiness, modernization, and advocacy will leave the Department of the Air Force better for generations to come," Barrett said Friday. Donovan has been the under secretary for more than two years.
"The Department of the Air Force is in good hands with Shon Manasco's leadership," Barrett added.
Stewart is just the latest in a long series of officials to resign or be removed from top Pentagon roles in the last few years. Navy Secretary Richard Spencer was asked for his resignation in November after Esper said he had broken trust by dealing unilaterally with the White House. Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson resigned in May to take a position as president of the University of Texas at El Paso. On Thursday, Pentagon officials confirmed that Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Randall Schriver was resigning after nearly two years in the post.
The position Stewart is vacating has not been filled by a Senate-confirmed official since Robert Wilkie departed to become secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs in July 2018.
According to his Air Force biography, Stewart was a pilot with over 4,700 flight hours flying the KC-10 Extender, C-17 Globemaster III, C-141A/B Starlifter, WC-130H weather reconnaissance aircraft and the C-130H2 Hercules during his nearly 40-year career, which spanned both active duty and the Air Force Reserve.
He retired from the Air Force as a major general in 2014.

Well, the interesting thing is that my friend actually tweeted a response to me that I "will always be [his] friend" and that he wished me well in my future endeavors. I texted him shortly thereafter and apologized for the harshness of my tweets (which I think I was right to apologize for, I've been pretty pissed). He actually told me he'd wanted to tweet really hateful things in response to me, but "something (Christ?) prevented me." (he goes to a liberal Presby "church"). I have been able to reason with him in the past, and we know that Twitter et al are not good places to get our points across. He cited the friendship of Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda who were lifelong friends who agreed never to talk politics (God, how I wish they had). But frankly, I'm down to I'd say 5 friends in my whole social circle, from a MUCH larger group a few years ago. I can't really afford to lose them all.

Q Research General #3636: CLOCKWORK Edition
Showtime's new series "Kidding" stars Jim Carrey as Jeff Pickles, a beloved children's TV host, in the actor's first series regular role in more than two decades.
The idea of Carrey playing a beloved kids' icon might sound like its a setup for satire, but "Kidding" has other aims.
"It wasn't about crafting an arc about a psycho Mr. Rogers," says Dave Holstein, the show's creator. "This is about a character, in this age of darkness and lies and bullying, who just wants to be good."
Carrey, of course, has played sweetly innocent before, most notably in his Golden Globe-winning role in Peter Weir's "The Truman Show."
"The search for identity, who we are, what's an authentic person is a theme that's always been attractive to me," says the actor, dressed in black, his hair long in what he quips is his "teenage runaway" look.
"I think there's definitely something in this piece of being hit by a freight train in life and trying to hang on to the idea of yourself that you had before it happened, and that's an incredible concept to me," he adds.
What Carrey is referring to is the death of his character's son in a car crash. When "Kidding" begins, we find Jeff a year down the road, separated from his wife and other son and fumbling around as he tries to come to terms with his grief.
Yet he continues on with his show, not out of greed, but because of who he is, someone who brings joy to others.
On the other hand, his father, Sheb (played by Frank Langella), monetized his son's innocent, fun idea for a kids' show and doesn't want Jeff to do anything to jeopardize "Mr. Pickles" as a cash cow even as he is worried his son will have a breakdown.
Besides the terrific Langella," "Kidding" also boasts some top talent in Judy Greer as Jeff's wife and Catherine Keener as his sister and puppet-master on "Mr. Pickles," which has the look of a real kids' show.
Having been a producer-writer on "Weeds," which as "full of antiheroes," Holstein was interested in writing a character "who didn't want to break bad."
"So to me it was about finding someone who had a crisis of faith but really wanted to preserve their goodness in a world that was populated by all the dark edges," he says about creating Mr. Pickles.
When the showrunner began writing the character in 2010, he immediately thought of Jim Carrey for the role, but never imagined he would one day actually have him onboard.
"Kidding" also reunites Carrey with Michel Gondry, his "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" director, who serves as an executive producer and directed several episodes of the 10-episode first season.
"I was incredibly interested in the material already," says Carrey, "but when Michel came on board, I thought, 'I get to go play with a teammate, and that's really wonderful.'"
In approaching the character, Carrey first thought about children shows like "Captain Kangaroo" and "Mr. Dressup," a Canadian series he watched as a kid.
"Those are the things I grew up with, and they were just wonderful," says the 56-year-old Toronto-area native. "But I quickly kind of threw those out and started watching movies. Jimmy Stewart was always my favorite."
The Hollywood icon excelled at playing innocent good guys in films like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and "It's a Wonderful Life," and Jeff Pickles has that sort of likable naiveté, only in a much more skeptical world.
Carrey says he enjoys working with Gondry because the filmmaker pushes him in new directions.
"When we started to work on 'Kidding,' it was very simple," says the French director. "I just had to tell Jim what I wanted in the most basic ways, and he would try anything out. He had no ego."
As a comic, Carrey sees his career as being something like being a cliff diver. "Basically that's where I live. It's either people are really going to admire what I just said or I'm done."
Adding: "Whatever you're being given may be terrifying, but if you look at it the right way, you become stronger because of it."
With numerous successes over his own 30-plus year career, Carrey says his interest now lies in being involved with "as many wonderful artists and to be as creative as humanly possible."
"The fact is, I want to know things," he says flatly. "Right now, there's just a lot of creative things happening in a lot of different directions, and this, to me, is a jewel that came my way and was presented to me at a perfect time when I am well-schooled and experienced enough to do this part."
One of Carrey's other outlets has been making news recently. Since 2016, Carrey has created more than a hundred cartoons focused on the Trump Administration and posted them on Twitter.
"I do cartoons because I can't just watch this nightmare unfold. I have to make it into something," he says.

The earliest known reference to walking a red carpet in literature is in the play Agamemnon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. When the title character returns from Troy, he is greeted by his vengeful wife Clytemnestra who offers him a red path to walk upon:
Now my beloved, step down from your chariot, and let not your foot, my lord, touch the Earth. Servants, let there be spread before the house he never expected to see, where Justice leads him in, a crimson path.
Agamemnon, knowing that only gods walk on such luxury, responds with trepidation:
I am a mortal, a man; I cannot trample upon these tinted splendors without fear thrown in my path.
Oriental carpets in Renaissance painting often show rugs and carpets, patterned but with red often the main background colour, laid on the steps to a throne, or on a dais where rulers or sacred figures are placed.
A red carpet was rolled out to a river to welcome the arrival of United States president James Monroe in 1821.[1] In 1902, The New York Central Railroad used plush crimson carpets to direct people as they boarded their 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is believed to be the origin of the phrase "red-carpet treatment".[2] Film premieres are often laid down with red carpets.
It wasn't until the 1920s that the red carpet and Hollywood became truly synonymous. The crimson-hued carpet was unfurled for the Hollywood premiere of Robin Hood, starring Douglas Fairbanks, in front of the Egyptian Theatre in 1922. And for the following decades, there were only few places where the public could catch a glimpse of charismatic stars like Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, and the red carpet was one of them.[3]
Then, in 1961, the red carpet was introduced at the Academy Awards at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. A few years later, the broadcasters of the ceremony opted to film outside the venue, showing the arrival of guests as they stepped out of their limousines. From this point in 1964, the red carpet became a globally acknowledged focal point for actors and actresses to make a grand entrance and showcase themselves at the Oscars.[4]

More on Evalyn:
"Evalyn was born on August 1, 1886 in Denver, Colorado,[1] the only daughter of Carrie Bell Reed, a former schoolteacher, and Thomas Walsh, an Irish immigrant miner and prospector turned multimillionaire. She had one sibling, a brother, Vinson Walsh (1888-1905), who died in a car accident in Newport, Rhode Island when he was 17 years old"
"On January 28, 1911, in a deal made in the offices of The Washington Post, McLean's husband purchased the Hope Diamond for $189,000 (equivalent to $4,840,000 in 2018) from Pierre Cartier of Cartier Jewelers in New York.[3][4] The Hope Diamond was associated with a curse, and McLean's first son was killed in a car accident. Her husband Ned ran off with another woman and eventually died in a sanitarium. Their family newspaper, The Washington Post, went bankrupt. Eventually McLean's daughter died of a drug overdose, and one of her grandsons died in the Vietnam War. McLean never believed the curse had anything to do with her misfortunes, as millions of other humans on the planet had suffered far greater tragedies without having owned a supposed 'cursed diamond', suggesting that misfortune was a product of chance rather than supernatural interference. "
"In 1908, she married Edward Beale McLean, the son of John Roll McLean and heir to The Washington Post and The Cincinnati Enquirer publishing fortune. They had four children:
Vinson Walsh McLean (1909-1919), who died aged 9 after being hit by an automobile[5]
Edward Beale McLean Jr. (1918-1987), who married Gloria Hatrick McLean, later the wife of actor Jimmy Stewart[6]
John Randolph "Jock" McLean II (1916-1975)[7]
Evalyn Washington McLean (1921-1946),[8] who married United States Senator Robert Rice Reynolds (1884-1963).[9]
The site of the McLean home, Friendship - a sprawling country mansion built for her father-in-law by John Russell Pope and which was located on Tenleytown Road, N.W. - is now a condominium complex known as McLean Gardens. The original house was demolished in the 1940s though some of the property's garden features remain intact, as does the Georgian-style ballroom. A later residence, also known as Friendship, is located at the corner of R Street, N.W. and Wisconsin Avenue, and remains a private home. Her childhood home, a grandiose Second Empire-style mansion at 2020 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., is now the Indonesian embassy.
McLean was a friend and confidante to Alice Roosevelt Longworth and Florence Harding, the wife of Warren G. Harding, the 29th President of the United States.
McLean was a victim of Gaston Means, a former BOI agent, murder suspect, and grifter, who claimed he had set a deal to free the Lindbergh baby for a ransom of over US$100,000, which Evalyn McLean advanced him. Means disappeared with the money, only to resurface months later in California, and ask McLean for additional funds. Suspicious of Means' activities, she helped lead police to him; he was also wanted for other various crimes and civil actions. This ultimately led to his conviction and imprisonment on larceny charges.
Edward McLean eventually died in a mental institution in 1941."
"On April 26, 1947, Evalyn Walsh McLean, aged 60, died of pneumonia, and was buried in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington D.C., in the Walsh family tomb, alongside her daughter.[11] The Reverend Edmund Walsh, S.J. vice president of Georgetown University read her funeral service, which was attended by family, and close friends including United States Supreme Court Justice Frank Murphy.[11]
Upon her death, the principal of her estate and her jewelry, including the Hope Diamond, were left to her seven grandchildren, to be managed by four trustees until the five oldest grandchildren passed their twenty-fifth birthdays.[9] The trustees were:
Frank Murphy, United States Supreme Court Justice
Thurman Arnold, former Assistant Attorney General
Msgr. Fulton J. Sheen, American bishop and later archbishop of the Catholic Church
The Reverend Edmund Walsh, S.J. vice president of Georgetown University
Her sons, however, received the proceeds of the Walsh Trust, which was established by her father Thomas Walsh, who had died in 1910. She gave her son-in-law, the former United States Senator Robert Rice Reynolds, lifetime use of the McLean home, Friendship. If the home was sold by the Trustees, he was to receive the proceeds of the sale for his own use.[9] "
