Gainesville Man Sentenced To Ten Years In Prison For Possessing Child Pornography
GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - Jeremy Astrologo, 42, of Gainesville, Florida, was sentenced yesterday to ten years in federal prison following his conviction for possessing child pornography. Jason R. Coody, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced the sentence.
Astrologo, a multi-convicted sexual predator, entered a guilty plea last November. The evidence showed that in November 2019, Astrologo was under investigation for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. Investigators located Astrologo at an area motel, where he was found in possession of a cell phone which contained over 80 images of child pornography.
"Crimes against children are among the most heinous types of offenses and deserving of the most significant sentences," said Acting U.S. Attorney Coody. "Those who seek to view and maintain child pornography facilitate the abuse of children by those who produce and profit from this illegal content, which is robbing so many of our children of their innocence and their very childhood."
Astologo's prison sentence will be followed by lifetime of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to all sex offender conditions.
"Obviously he did not learn the first time, as this child predator is a repeat offender and will be returning to prison thanks to the law enforcement partnership between HSI and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office," said HSI Jacksonville Assistant Special Agent in Charge K. Jim Phillips.
The case was investigated by the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Frank Williams prosecuted the case.

Convicted Felon Sentenced To More Than 11 Years For Possessing Pictures And Movies Depicting The Sexual Abuse Of Children And For Unlawful Possession Of A Firearm
Jacksonville, Florida - U.S. District Judge Brian J. Davis has sentenced Michael John Jordan (39, Jacksonville) to 11 years and 3 months in federal prison for possessing child sexual abuse images and videos and for possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon. The court also ordered Jordan to serve a lifetime term of supervised release and forfeit 22 electronic devices, a shotgun, and ammunition. He must also to register as a sex offender. As part of his sentence, Jordan was ordered to pay $17,000 in restitution to several child victims.
Jordan had pleaded guilty on February 19, 2020.
According to court documents, the investigation began in September 2018 through CyberTip reports sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children involving the upload of illegal content received from several electronic service providers. Further investigation revealed that Jordan was the source of the uploads referenced in the CyberTip reports, and that he had used multiple different platforms to share material depicting the abuse of children. On February 20, 2019, agents from Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the Clay County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at Jordan's home and seized several dozen electronic devices. Forensic analysis of these devices revealed more than 1,000 images and videos of child pornography, some of which depicted the sexual assault of infants and toddlers. Jordan had used sophisticated encryption techniques to conceal his internet trafficking of child sexual abuse material, including layered security measures and elaborate password protection.
During the search of Jordan's residence, agents recovered a loaded 12-gauge pistol-grip firearm. In 2014, Jordan was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.
"This convicted felon obviously did not learn his lesson the first time," said HSI Jacksonville Assistant Special Agent in Charge K. Jim Phillips. "thanks to HSI special agents, the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, he will be returning to prison for a second time, this time for possession of child pornography and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon."
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Clay County Sheriff's Office, and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelly S. Karase.
This is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. County library employee arrested for child exploitation production
JACKSONVILLE, Florida - A Putnam County man was arrested and charged with production and possession of child exploitation material last week. This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Kurt Batucan Sheldon, 29, of Interlachen, faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 15 years, and up to 50 years, in federal prison.
Any person who was, or knows of someone who may have been, a possible child victim is urged to contact HSI at 1-866-DHS-2ICE or online tip form.
"Unfortunately, this case highlights the extreme dangers for children and social media applications," said HSI Jacksonville Assistant Special Agent in Charge K. Jim Phillips. "Because of alert parents, and outstanding teamwork with Clay and Putnam Counties Sherriff's Offices, this predator is no longer able to sexually exploit children."
According to the complaint, parents of a minor child made a report to the Clay County Sheriff's Office about sexually explicit messages being sent by an adult to their daughter on Snapchat and Whisper. The adult referred to himself as "K t." "K t" was his screen name on Snapchat, but his Snapchat username was "tacticfallout." "K t" originally began communicating with the child on Whisper and represented himself as a male, between the ages of 25-29. The child told him that she was 15 years old. "K t" told the child that his name was "Kurt" and that he lived in Putnam. The child told "Kurt" she lived with her parents and was in school. Their conversation later moved to Snapchat and "K t" requested child exploitation material-images and videos-from the child and directed the child on how to take the images and how to pose. Approximately 50 images and/or videos were sent to "K t" at his direction. Further investigation by HSI and the Clay County Sheriff's Office identified Sheldon's residence as the source of the IP address used by the Snapchat account "tacticfallout," and the Gmail account associated with this Snapchat account.
On September 4, 2020, HSI special agents and deputies and detectives with the Clay and Putnam County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Sheldon's residence. Sheldon admitted there was child sexual abuse material on the computer. He also admitted to asking girls he met on online applications, whom he knew to be underage, to send him nude photographs, including a 15-year-old female.
It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Washington and Kelly Karase, with the office of Middle District Florida United States Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez.

Florida man charged with child pornography production
JACKSONVILLE, Florida - A Florida man was charged with three counts of production of child pornography Thursday. This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
"This individual made the decision to take advantage of the young and vulnerable," said HSI Jacksonville Assistant Special Agent in Charge K. Jim Phillips. "Through HSI's partnership with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, this predator's disturbing actions were brought to light and he will be held fully accountable for those actions."
According to the indictment, between October 2015 and March 2019, Richard Earl Jenkins, Jr., 43, Jacksonville, produced child pornography. If convicted, Jenkins faces a minimum mandatory term of 15 years, and up to 30 years, in federal prison for each count.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
The case will be prosecuted by the office of United States Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez, Middle District Florida, Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Washington.
This investigation was conducted under HSI's Operation Predator, an international initiative to protect children from sexual predators. Since the launch of Operation Predator in 2003, HSI has arrested more than 25,000 individuals for crimes against children, including the production and distribution of online child exploitation material, traveling overseas for sex with minors, and sex trafficking of children. In fiscal year 2019, more than 3,500 child predators were arrested by HSI special agents under this initiative and more than 1,000 victims identified or rescued.
