Q Research General #26795: Ebake for Victory Edition

Early vote data in Nevada suggests the state is slipping away from Democrats and could likely be won by President Donald J. Trump on November 5. The state's top elections and political analyst Jon Ralston-himself a partisan Democrat-is warning that in prior presidential years, the question has always been whether Republicans can overcome the Democratic Party's early vote firewall. However, he notes that this year, the question has been reversed.
"This year is different in many ways, but most obviously in that for the first time in The Reid Machine Era (2008 and forward), the Republicans are the ones banking votes in a presidential year, establishing a firewall to try to fend off a Democratic comeback and put themselves in the best position since [George W. Bush] won the state in 2004," Ralston writes, adding: "So the analysis is the opposite of what it usually is: Can the Dems overcome the deficit and what would that look like in the models?"
The Nevada elections guru contends that while Democrats did see some positive news regarding vote totals in Clark County earlier this week, and they do typically surge votes in the final two days of early voting, it may be too little, too late.
"My gut and the data/history tell me it could be close," Ralston says, adding: "But I tend to agree with GOP operative Jeremy Hughes, who posits that if the final GOP ballot lead gets much over 25,000, big trouble for Dems in trying to turn around this battleship."
According to Nevada state election data, the Republican Party currently holds an eight percent statewide turnout edge, with a nearly ten percent edge in crucial Clark County. The Democrat firewall in the county is just at 8,600 in Clark.

—After five days of data, theClark early vote and mail percentageshave been remarkably consistent. TheRepubs have been in the high 40s or at 50 percent in in-person and the Dems at highs 20s and 30s.In mail, the Dems have been in the mid to high 40s and the Rs in the mid to high 20s. About 58 percent of the turnout in Clark is from mail and 42 percent from in-person voting. Let's see if these trends - and they are trends after five days of data - hold in the second week.

Frankly, as I have been telling you, I don't think the old models make sense with this unprecedented turnout pattern. I will show you (again) the 2020 results:
I am not sure what that will be this cycle with Republicans having an epiphany that early and mail ballots are good, not a cause for suspicion unless they need them to be. So theRepubs may be doing what has served the Dems so well: Banking votes early to almost guarantee victory.

GOP operative Jeremy Hughes sifted this from the data – his numbers on voters refer to general elections voted in:
…the problem for Democrats comes up when we look at the low propensity voters.

GOP 2 of 4 voters - 25.3% Turnout
DEM 2 of 4 voters - 20.9% Turnout

Republicans have a nearly 4.5% turnout advantage among voters who had missed two of the last four general elections.

GOP 1 of 4 voters - 23.6% Turnout
DEM 1 of 4 voters - 18.6% Turnout

Amongst the infrequent 1 of 4 voters,Republicans open up their largest turnout advantage of nearly 5%.

Then, when you look at new voters and voters who have never voted in a general election, Republicans continue to dominate.

GOP 0 of 4 voters - 17.8% Turnout
DEM 0 of 4 voters - 13.9% Turnout

Now, after all of those numbers what does this mean?

The Republican early vote lead will continue to grow.The GOP just has more active and interested voters and is pulling people off the couch who normally don't vote.

This also means that Republicans will undoubtedly have a turnout advantage in this election, which, given the voter registration numbers, basically guarantees that more Republicans will vote than Democrats.

Hughes probably is correct about that, but the real question if he is right is this:How many more Republicans? If it's tens of thousands, even a big win among indies for Dems almost surely won't be enough.

I said earlier that 2022, even though a non-presidential year and with lower turnout, may be more instructive. TheDem vote came in much later and Election Day losses were offset by mail ballots dropped at election locations. Hello, Culinary Union and Democratically aligned nonprofits.

At least that's what the Dems are hoping will be the case. My point is that we don't know yet if that is what's happening or will happen.I think there are still about a million votes to be cast.

So far about 57 percent of the votes have been cast by mail and 43 percent in person. The Rs are winning because they have a 25-point lead in in-person and the Dems only have a 12 percent lead in mail. As I said, if the Dems can't change those margins and/or that mix, they are in big, big trouble. And they have to hope for maximum GOP cannibalization of Election Day voters vs what Hughes talked about: low-propensity GOP voters turning out.

Week One of the two weeks of early voting ends tomorrow.

In 2022, the Dems had a 21,000-ballot lead after Week One. In 2020, the Dems had about a 50,000-ballot leadafter one week.

Instead, they are going to be well behind. The volume of mail ballots is down, too, which is either a concern or an opportunity for the Dems. About 450,000 mail ballots were cast in Clark four years ago - only about a third of that number have been counted so far, and the total could get to half a million this year. Or not. Need to keep an eye on those numbers.

The Dems almost always do better in the second week, and they need to in 2024, not to build an insurmountable lead, as they have in the past, but to stay in the game. I don't know of any smart Dem who thinks this is going to be anything but a slog and a 50-50 race possibly decided by a few thousand votes.

What they don't say is this: That may be a best-case for them at this point, to be that close.

Two former Marines arrested in foiled kidnapping plot in Thailand

Two former US Marines were among four people - including a high-ranking police official - who have been arrested in Bangkok for allegedly kidnapping a Taiwanese businessman in a restaurant for a ransom over a PPE deal gone bad.

Ex-Marines Jeremy Hughes Manchester, 41, and Louis William Ziskin, 52, the CEO and founder of an on-demand live video platform, were busted along with Ekbodin Prasitnarit and Thai police Lt. Col. Kristsnaporn Thapthawee, the Thai Examiner reported.

Wen Yu Chung, 60, the Taiwanese businessman, was captured on surveillance footage from March 28 being put in a headlock and being dragged out of the L'Oliva restaurant in Thong Lor, The Thaiger reported.

Thapthawee was seen in the video supervising the abduction in connection with the $2.95 million ransom plot over the purchase of nitrile gloves, according to the local reports.

In late 2020, Ziskin allegedly appointed the Collection Company Ltd. to negotiate the purchase of a large quantity of the gloves with the Paddy The Room Trading Co. for almost $3 million, the Bangkok Post reported.

But he lost the money in an ensuing business conflict, so he hired Michael Greenberg, an Israeli who opened a private detective company in Thailand last year, to help him recoup the losses, according to the outlet.

Details of the kidnapping of a Taiwanese man and extortion attempt on March 28th were given by the police on Saturday at a press conference. The plot, according to senior officers, was orchestrated in association with an Israeli private investigator to whom 52-year-old American Mr Louis Ziskin had gone for help to retrieve his money after he claimed he had been ripped off. Both Americans are reported to be ex-US marine corps members.
Two Americans were arrested by Thai police this week in connection with a kidnapping and extortion attempt on a Taiwanese national in Bangkok on March 28th last. The two were detained after arrest warrants were issued by the Criminal Court in Bangkok against 8 people involved in the plot which has been linked by a senior police officer to the loss of ?93 million by one of the men arrested in a deal linked with rubber gloves.
The charges against the men range from illegal assembly to abduction, attempted murder and extortion. The two Americans arrested were identified by police as 41-year-old Jeremy Hughes Manchester and 52-year-old Louis William Ziskin.

The men are also charged with being part of a conspiracy and secret group working in concert to commit an illegal act.

The nexus of the abduction attempt according to the senior police officer was a business deal between two private firms that went wrong at the end of 2020.
Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop explained that a firm calling itself The Collections Agency run by a lady named Ms Emily was appointed by one of the Americans, Mr Ziskin, to negotiate and procure rubber gloves from a firm known as Paddy The Room Trading Company Limited.
The policeman explained that the US man, Mr Ziskin, was left out of pocket to the tune of ?93 million when the proposed deal turned sour.
He then approached a private investigation firm run by an Israeli national named Mr Michael Greenberg. Mr Greenberg's firm had been established in Thailand in 2020.
At length, this led to the kidnapping and failed extortion attempt on Sunday, March 28th last when Taiwanese businessman, Mr Wen Yu Chung, was the target of a team of men assembled on the instructions of Mr Ziskin and with the assistance of Mr Greenberg.

Americans Arrested in Bangkok Kidnapping Case Deny Charges

Thai Police said Thursday they are pursuing more suspects in the kidnapping case for which two American men have been arrested. The kidnapping case involves a business dispute over the purchase of nitrile gloves, critical personal protective equipment during the coronavirus pandemic.

Louis William Ziskin, the CEO of a Los Angeles-based tech company, and Jeremy Hughes Manchester, identified as a former U.S. Marine, were arrested on Saturday along with a Thai man. The five additional suspects are from the U.S. and Israel, said police Col. Netiwit Thanasithnitikul of Thailand's Crime Suppression Division.

Ziskin and Manchester have denied the charges, which include kidnapping, attempted murder, assault and being part of a criminal gang. Both are free on bail but must wear tracking devices at all times and not leave Thailand.

Ziskin replied to an email query from The Associated Press, and in a series of exchanges indicated the accounts given by Thai police were misleading and that he has evidence that will exonerate him of wrongdoing.

Netiwit said the case resulted from a business deal gone sour between Ziskin and the company for which the Taiwanese man worked. Ziskin accused the company of cheating by selling him substandard nitrile gloves for almost $3 million.

Crime has two complicated aspects

Netiwit said Ziskin allegedly hired a group of Americans and Israeli private detectives based in Thailand to help recover the money he paid the Taiwanese company for the rubber gloves.

"This crime has two complicated aspects. One is a kidnap attempt and other is the medical supply deal gone bad during COVID time," Netiwit said.

He said Thailand is a major glove supplier, and "we hear so many stories of fraudulent deals by people who claimed to represent a legitimate glove company when they don't really have any connection."

He said the police Economic Crime Division is investigating the glove deal.

According to a police statement after Saturday's arrests, the representative of the Taiwanese company, Wen Yu Chung, was lured to a meeting in March on the pretext of discussing the possible purchase of rubber gloves.

The group allegedly hired by Ziskin, including Manchester, seized Wen in full view of customers, restaurant staff and a CCTV camera, dragging him outside after a brief struggle and bundling him into a waiting vehicle, which took him to a rented room nearby, the statement said.
