Soon after he was tapped to help save the planet, U.S. special climate envoy John F. Kerry found himself on another planet entirely.

It was April 2021, during the depths of the coronavirus pandemic, and Kerry had flown to Shanghai to meet with his Chinese counterparts. He was greeted on the tarmac by dozens of people in hazmat suits who resembled astronauts wearing "moon suits," Kerry recalled in a recent interview with The Washington Post.

"They were completely antiseptically sealed from us," he said. "It was like going into some weird otherworld."

Those early talks with Chinese climate diplomats - who sat at the opposite end of a long table from Kerry and his staff - paved the way for a key agreement last year. As part of the deal, Beijing agreed to collaborate with Washington on reducing planet-heating methane emissions and transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
Analysts say the U.S.-China deal helped clinch a historic outcome at last year's U.N. Climate Change Conference in Dubai. There, negotiators from nearly 200 countries agreed for the first time to phase out fossil fuels, the main cause of rising temperatures that have wrought devastation across the globe.

Now, Kerry, who turned 80 in Dubai, is stepping down from his post after more than 40 years of public service, including as a senator from Massachusetts and secretary of state during the Obama administration. His last day in the role will be Wednesday. President Biden has tapped senior adviser John D. Podesta to replace Kerry, although Podesta will be based at the White House rather than the State Department.
The move marks the end of an era in climate diplomacy. Kerry, at 6-foot-4, has literally and figuratively towered over global climate talks. He was seemingly omnipresent at the 2022 talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, before he contracted the coronavirus and was sidelined to his hotel room during the final days of negotiations.

Kerry has drawn on "unbelievable reserves of energy" at the U.N. climate talks, where bleary-eyed negotiators run on just a few hours of sleep, said Sue Biniaz, the U.S. deputy special climate envoy.

"Even when the rest of us were ready to give up on things, he would always want to keep trying," Biniaz said. "He would sometimes lapse into 'the sky is falling,' but then that would propel him to do more, and then he would get optimistic again."

Jennifer Morgan, the German climate envoy, agreed. "When I think of him, I think of a tireless energy, like an Energizer bunny," she said of Kerry.

Mohamed Adow, the director of the Nairobi-based environmental think tank Power Shift Africa, credited Kerry with "bringing some sanity back to the climate discourse" after the Trump administration withdrew the United States from the Paris agreement. But he criticized Kerry and Congress for not fulfilling President Biden's pledge to provide more than $11 billion annually in international climate aid.

"However you want to think of John Kerry, he hasn't delivered the serious gains to those of us on the front lines of the climate crisis," Adow said.

Because of his regular travels, Kerry spends little time at his State Department office, which is sparsely decorated, with the exception of a helmet emblazoned with "SPEC" - an acronym for "special presidential envoy for climate" - that he wears when riding electric scooters around Washington.

It was there The Post sat down with Kerry last month to discuss his legacy, the 2024 election and the future of global efforts to stave off a climate catastrophe.

Greenpeace chief lands top job in govt of EU state

American Jennifer Morgan has been appointed Germany's international climate envoy

Greenpeace chief Jennifer Morgan has been named Germany's new special envoy for international climate policy by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, a Green Party leader in the coalition government.

"I feel honored by the trust you put in me and I take on this important role with pleasure and determination. We are at a crossroads," Morgan said of the appointment on Wednesday, reportedly speaking in fluent German.

The American told reporters that she would bring her years of experience in the climate movement as well as in think tanks into politics and help Germany achieve its green goals.

"The effects of the climate crisis are being felt everywhere - people and nature are suffering," she added.

Brussels is slated to be Morgan's first foreign trip, followed by a visit to Paris. She will take up her new role from March 1 after she relinquishes her position at Greenpeace.

"Germany has built itself a role-model image internationally with its decision to exit coal and nuclear, and its intensive investments in renewable energy and hydrogen. The energy transition is Germany's soft power. And we will pursue this actively," said Morgan.

Speaking alongside her, Baerbock described the appointment as a "dream," saying it would provide a huge boost to Germany's climate change efforts.

Germany's traffic-light coalition - a reference to the three party colors - is pursuing an ambitious climate-change agenda, which coincides with its presidency of the G7 nations this year. They intend to roll out international climate policies including the world's first carbon border tariff.

Both Greenpeace and Germany's Green Party have their roots in the anti-nuclear movement of the 1970s and '80s.

The Great Reset Fraud

Like everyone, I would love to live in a pollution-free world.

I would love to see human civilization strike a balance with nature and at the risk of sounding like a naive idealist, I sincerely do believe that this is ultimately our destiny as a species.

My personal experience has led me to the conclusion that we have only failed to achieve this paradigm as a species due to the system (and cultural influence) of oligarchism which has managed to stubbornly sink its claws parasitically onto its host for a few too many generations- corrupting and perverting everything that it dominates.

Due to the pervasiveness of oligarchism, mass exploitation, wars and pollution have lain waste to ecosystems and countless human lives alike, and as the neo-liberal order continues to careen towards the inevitable breakdown of a 2 quadrillion dollar derivatives bubble which our un-repentant decades of decadence has caused, very serious choices will need to be made.

False Remedies to the Oncoming Meltdown

Many false solutions will be presented as society wakes up to the burning building it is trapped in, and unless our minds have become aware of those false solutions, (not to mention those arsonists managing this fire from the top), then many well-intentioned souls from all walks of life may sign onto their own death warrants and accidentally usher in a solution far worse than the disease they sought to remedy.

Before you, dear reader, accuse me of being overly dramatic in my claims, let me bring your attention to a June 3rd event sponsored by the World Economic Forum (WEF) entitled The Great Reset featuring impassioned calls by leaders of the IMF, World Bank, UK, USA, corporate and banking sector to take advantage of COVID-19 to shut down and "reset" the world economy under a new operating system entitled the Green New Deal.

WEF founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab said "the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions... Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed. In short, we need a 'Great Reset' of capitalism."

Schwab's message was amplified by Prince Charles who gushed over the this golden opportunity to radically modify human behaviour in ways that decades of environmentalism have failed to accomplish when he said: "We have a golden opportunity to seize something good from this [COVID-19] crisis. Its unprecedented shockwaves may well make people more receptive to big visions of change,"

While the World Economic Forum is usually known as a forum of global corporate elites, this organization branched out in recent years to become a leader in global pandemic coordination as a co-sponsor of the creepy October 2019 Event 201 and has embraced leaders of typically "anti-capitalist" resistance groups like Greenpeace who now speak regularly at their events.

Jennifer Morgan (current head of Greenpeace) stated at the event "We set up a new world order after World War II... We're now in a different world than we were then. We need to ask, what can we be doing differently? The World Economic Forum has a big responsibility in that as well-to be pushing the reset button and looking at how to create well-being for people and for the Earth."

So is this definition of international wellbeing truly what it appears? Or does something more nefarious lurk under the surface? How can we know?

SAP cloud business head quits after 27 years in latest top departure

BERLIN (Reuters) - Software company SAP said the head of its cloud business group had quit, the latest in a string of top departures as Europe's most valuable technology company reshapes its operations. Robert Enslin, who joined SAP in 1992 and had served on its board since 2014, had been tipped by some as a potential successor to Chief Executive Bill McDermott but has departed to take an unspecified opportunity elsewhere. During his two-year tenure as head of the cloud business group, Enslin helped build out SAP's cloud portfolio, including its $8 billion deal last year to buy Qualtrics, which specialises in tracking online sentiment. SAP did not say if he was getting any sort of payoff.

Enslin's exit follows other high-profile departures, including Bjoern Goerke, chief technology officer and head of SAP's cloud platform business, and Bernd Leukert, the board executive who ran global service and support. Programming gurus Rich Heilman and Thomas Jung - both highly respected among SAP developer specialists - said last month they had been let go by SAP, but have now found new roles and are staying, a company spokesman said.

The departures underscore McDermott's long-stated ambition to transform SAP into a digital platform business, but the exit of long-serving and well-regarded staff with extensive know-how risks alienating core customers. SAP said in January around 4,400 people would leave under a restructuring. Arch-rival Oracle has also announced layoffs and some of its top talent has defected to Google. SAP shares have risen steadily in recent weeks from a nine-month low of 83.95 euros set on Jan.3. They closed at 102.5 euros on Friday, down 1.1 pct on the day.

SAP said board member Jennifer Morgan, who joined the company in 2004 and most recently co-led SAP's global customer operations, would succeed Enslin as president of the cloud business group with imminent effect. Adaire Fox-Martin will take sole responsibility for global customer operations as president. In a Tweet, Enslin said: "Though my tenure with #SAP has come to an end, my personal belief and public advocacy for SAP's innovation and vision to help the world run better never will. Thank you … dear colleagues for 27 spectacular years." SAP will report its results for the first quarter as planned on April 24.
