A Russian court has sentenced Colombian national Pablo Puentes Boorghes to 28 years in prison for participating in a Ukrainian armed incursion into the country's Kursk Region. He was also fined 1 million rubles (approximately $12,700).

Russia's Investigative Committee announced the verdict on Tuesday, stating that Boorghes was convicted of mercenarism, terrorism, illegal border crossing, arms trafficking, and the unlawful possession of firearms.

According to investigators,Boorghes voluntarily joined Ukraine's 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade in late 2024 and took part in a cross-border assaultaimed at destabilizing the Sudzhansky District of Kursk Region. The Committee said he engaged in coordinated actions designed to intimidate civilians, damage infrastructure, and disrupt local government operations.

He is dressed in combat fatigues and speaks with an English accent while appearing to have his hands tied. He said to the camera: "I was in the British Army before, from 2019 to 2023, 22 Signal Regiment. Just a private. I was a signalman. One Signal Brigade, 22 Signal Regiment, 252 Squadron."

He said he signed up to fight for Ukraine's International Legion after losing his job.
"When I left, I got fired from my job, I applied on the International Legion webpage. I had just lost everything. I just lost my job," he said. "I see it on the TV," he added, shaking his head. "It was a stupid idea." He described how he had travelled to Ukraine from Britain, saying: "I flew to Krakow, Poland, from London Luton. Bus from there to Medyka in Poland, on the Ukraine border."

Russian state news agency Tass reported that a military source said a "UK mercenary" had been "taken prisoner in the Kursk area" of Russia.

The UK Foreign Office said it was "supporting the family of a British man following reports of his detention".

The Ministry of Defence has declined to comment at this stage.

"COUNTERFACTUAL THINKING
Influencers play both sides of issues relevant to their targets. One effective mechanism that they can
leverage against one or more sides is counterfactual thinking. It focuses on the imagined reminiscence
of "what could have been." Counterfactual thinkers ponder alternative scenarios and outcomes that
might have happened but didn't. Often, they over-idealize those wistful thoughts to the point that reality
becomes a bitter disappointment. Attackers can leverage those musings and negative feelings to sow
discord and mobilize movements. According to a 1997 study, "Affective Determinants of Counterfactual
Thinking," the significance of the event is correlated linearly with the level of counterfactual thinking.
As a result, '''close elections, charged societal debates, the passage of controversial legislation, and other
events that leave one or both sides of an issue extremely emotional are prime targets for memes or trolled
discourse that capitalizes on counterfactual thinking''' [10]."

Anon thoughts. Well we are in that situation right now. Society is deeply polarized, and events have occurred and in the near future will occur (elections!) that fit this "wistful thinking" scenario. We can expect to be targeted with this style of psyop arousing the negative feelings of those disappointed by the outcome.
It could be a secondary purpose of the fake polls to create false expectations, that will be exploited after the election by arousing these "wistful feelings".
The left might be whipped into (moar) anarchy when their promised candidates lose, under the manufactured uncertainty of a "pandemic" and "vote by mail fraud".

"CONFIRMATION BIAS
Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for and weigh information that confirms one's
preconceptions more strongly than information that challenges them. This occurs more than anything
else; we act to preserve our understanding of the world and often disregard contrary information. In
influence, it is vital to identify which perceptions are in conflict and how they might be swayed. It also
leads to a tendency for people to remember success and forget promises or mistakes. This helps to
explain why people are so willing to forget promises made to them or past blunders, as the ends appear
to justify the means. Thus, a target population can be influenced by many promises and remarks, and
to a non-critical eye, the outlandish and untrue are forgotten and the correct predictions seem powerful.
Confirmation bias further helps to shape how one is influenced, since we have tendencies to remember
only the information pertinent to sustaining our views and delete the rest from memory. Thus, a fake
news site could post multiple fake targeted articles and not be recognized as fake, since the fake articles
will be forgotten, and the fake ones that are well-received will confirm beliefs and gain trust for the

Anon's thoughts:
Social media ("likes", "upvotes") reinforces tendencies to confirmation bias. Viewers are presented with news, and categories of news, that match their preferences. Once the preferences have been established through mockingbird-type propaganda, social media can reinforce beliefs through confirmation bias.
Also, people will tend to see lots of stories on topics they "like". The predominance of one kind of story will reinforce existing beliefs.
Social media designed with "like" or "upvote" are probably also very useful for profiling users. Get them to declare what kind of content they favor.
I think confirmation bias is very, very, very common these days.

Dedicated in memory to the precious life of his son Hatagin Baasandorj, Hatagin Gotovin Akim's book The Dog of Heaven: Truths and Myths of Blue Mongolia's Blue Wolf [translated from the Mongolian by Hargana G. Dashdavaa. English language text edited by Ming Holden (2008) Ulaanbaator: EDO Publishing LLC.] is a joint work of Mongols. These are stories about people as well as wolves.

H.G. Akim has collected the accessible stories, myths and legends about wolves and composed one manuscript which in 2008 became a published book translated for western readers into English. In all, there are thirteen such detailed narratives along with other information. To assemble this compilation of Mongol stories,, Akim travelled all over Mongolia interviewing local people who were considered highly knowledgeable on the topic of wolves. It is from these primary sources, the Mongol people themselves, that this particular collection of stories and orally translated myths has been compiled.

Hatagin Akim is an established scholar amongst his Mongol peers. The Khalkha Mongols with whom I work, unpredictably and often spontaneously express a genuine and deep respect for their ancestors. A compilation of such orally transmitted stories is, in this context, a treasure trove of local insights and wisdom.

The practical skills and insights acquired, through repetition and practice, by Khalkha Mongols who have worked with wolves, reflects an 'indigenous intelligence', something that that James Scott refers to as metis. (Scott, James C. 1998. Seeing Like a State pp314-315). However, the words of D. Purevdorj (Mongol poet and State Prize Winner) in the foreword to the book, through Ming Holden's beautiful translation, put this more eloquently than I ever could:

I wonder at the genius of my ancestors, who knew to attribute animals to the earth while extolling them as heavenly. I am envious of the wolf's skill and courage, either adroitly escaping or bravely dying in challenges to the dangers that await it at every step. A man, the King of Earth, who follows the way of the Dog of Heaven, might learn a useful lesson.

From the many well-structured narratives in this book, I have selected one that I think may be of interest to western students of contemporary Mongolian society and culture. Rather than consider this account through my own anthropological filters, I have elected on this occasion to let the story of indigenous practices by a contemporary Mongol author speak for themselves. I was particularly drawn to the creative literary device by which the issue of veracity has been addressed by Akim. Whenever one is dealing with real people and their account of events, it is important to skilfully and respectfully manage (in one's own retelling) such matters.

The following excerpts from "The Dog of Heaven" appear with written permission of the author. No modifications have been made to researcher Akim's original text.

When one of the brothers was having intercourse with the wife, he would leave a boot outside the ger as a signal to the other brother. One night the younger brother was having intercourse with the wife, and the wolf who terrorized their livestock absconded with the boot left outside the ger. The older brother also desired the wife that night, and he approached the ger, where there was no boot. He came in, where his brother was copulating with their wife, and all three of them panicked in shame. The two brothers came to the god and told the god their story. The god decided since the wolf had tormented the brothers during copulation that the wolf should be tormented during copulation as punishment. Thus began the suffering of wolves during copulation.

Burt Lancaster played General James Scott, the leader of the coup – a very self-righteous and proud man who's convinced he has the moral and ethical upper-hand over the President, and believes he has the public's absolute support.

There was a plane crash in the movie that conveniently killed President Lyman's Chief of Staff, who was returning to Washington with evidence of the coup plot.

The President then has an epic one-on-one showdown with General Scott in the WH, where he accuses Scott of orchestrating the coup and asks for his resignation, which he is eventually forced to give when the evidence is recovered. The coup attempt is thwarted.
