"All About the Money" Pulls the Curtain Back on Fergie Chambers and His Obsession With Making Things RIght, One Way or Another
clefnotesjournal.com/all-about-the-money-pulls-the-curtain-back-on-fergie-chambers-and-his-obsession-with-making-things-right-one-way-or-another/
A Piercing Documentary About the Power of Wealth and Whim, Director Sinead O'Shea's All About the Money Takes Viewers on a Fascinating Journey into the Inner Conflicts that Rule One Percenter James Cox Chambers.
Making its World Premiere in the 2026 Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Documentary Competition this January, All About the Money probes the deep and abiding conflicts that rule James Cox (aka Fergie) Chambers. We all have inner conflicts of some sort or another, of course. What makes Chambers so compelling a subject? He's son to one of the richest families in America, and his antipathy springs most from the source of his power to grapple with it, capitalism.
Great grandson to James M. Cox, ex-governor of Ohio and 1920 Democratic presidential nominee, his family's holdings include Cox Enterprises, a $34B media conglomerate with tentacles in sectors spanning automotive, farming and tech, among others. Suffice it to say Chambers has the resources to make a dent in his Communist war on capitalism, yet the question seemingly posed by O'Shea's new work may just be "Is that what he really wants?"
The fact is Chambers is a very troubled man. Raised by a single mother, actress Lauren Hamilton, his father, James Cox Chambers Sr. (heir to the Cox Enterprises fortune) sought and secured a divorce early on in his life. Estranged, for the most part, from his wealthy family, he emerged from his youth with a scathing history of mental health issues, drug abuse, a great deal of resentment toward everything the Coxes stand for, and a healthy share of their holdings. In an effort to seemingly exorcize his angst against the power and wealth his family wields, he divested himself of those holdings to the tune of $250M and began a crusade to crush the very engine that powered his own considerable fortune.
The film's outset neatly follows Chambers' launch of a Communist revolutionary base in rural Massachusetts, an effort to disrupt the capitalist system that comprises his foil. On a parallel track, O'Shea explores Chambers' backstory, which feeds so succinctly into his incredibly unique focus. Throughout the film's first half, it becomes clear that Chambers' passion for the commune he funds emanates directly from a sense of responsibility for the glutenous feeding he feels his family contributes to in America, as well as a deep and abiding need to strike out at what they represent. Yet, it also becomes evident that the void left by an emotionally distant and what he terms a "politically evil" father might also be in some way causal. When describing his father, the 40-something multi-millionaire philanthropist seems to devolve emotionally into a scorned pre-teen seeking validation. Perhaps it is because that validation never came that Fergie Chambers jumps so easily from passion to passion, finding only fleeting satisfaction when each pursuit creates more problems than they're seemingly worth. He steps back from the commune after a pro-Palestenian demonstration by its participants (while funded and directed by Chambers) draws the interest and ire of law enforcement.

Cox heir slams capitalism after securing 'hundreds of millions' from family
By Shannon Thaler
Published July 6, 2023
nypost.com/2023/07/06/Cox-media-heir-slams-capitalism-after-securing-millions/
A cop-hating heir to the Cox media empire ripped its sprawling businesses as "rotten capitalism" - days after claiming he had secured "multiple hundreds of millions of dollars" for himself as he cut ties with his wealthy clan.
James "Fergie" Chambers - a 38-year-old professed Communist who also loves guns and has the letters "ACAB," standing for "All cops are bastards," on his neck - said he was outraged at his family over their $10 million donation to the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, also known as Cop City.
In an exclusive interview with The Post, Chambers said this week that his family's gift to the police last month was the final straw in a "lifetime of buildup" to cutting ties with his family, ranked by Forbes as the eighth-richest in the US with a fortune of $34.5 billion.
"My family is a rotten capitalism firm like the rest of them," Chambers said, claiming that he lives a humble life in New Hampshire with his partner and four children compared to his Atlanta-based relatives.
He is the first-born son of James Cox Chambers, the co-owner of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks with a net worth of $5.65 billion, according to Bloomberg's Billionaire Index.
Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises was founded 1898 by Chambers' great-grandfather, former Ohio Gov. James M. Cox, who made an unsuccessful run for president in 1920 against Warren G. Harding with Franklin Delano Roosevelt as his running mate before going on to build his industrial empire.
The powerful conglomerate has grown to include Cox Communications, the nation's third-largest cable company, and businesses including Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book and Valpak.
"Personally, I don't spend much money on myself. I drive a three-year-old Tacoma, and I live in a three-bedroom house," he claimed.
"I don't even like to fly - never mind own a private jet," he added, noting that his extended family is "all about maintaining dynasty."
The family fortune built by Gov. Cox was bequeathed to his two daughters, Barbara and Anne, Chambers' grandmother.
Before Anne died at 100 in January 2020, she distributed her shares to her three children, who included James Cox Chambers, who reportedly owns a 17% stake in Cox Enterprises.
After Cox Chambers divorced Fergie's mom, he married the daughter of Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi and fathered another son.
After hearing about Cox Foundation's Cop City donation, Chambers said he proceeded to call his cousin Alex Taylor - who has served as the president and CEO of Cox Enterprises since 2018 - to tell him, "I don't want any part of this."
"I was disgusted by it," Chambers said of the cop training center, which is expected to occupy 85 acres with classrooms, a burn building and a mock city that will even include a nightclub upon completion later this year.
Chambers went on to score himself an alleged payout more befitting an oligarch than a proletariat.
Exact figures and details of the deal must remain confidential, Chambers said.
"I will be 'worth' multiple hundreds of millions of dollars, and I will continue to have a considerable income for the decade or so to come," he tweeted.
Chambers added that with his exit, he took the "opportunity to extract as much from the Cox capital as I possibly could before I die."
When The Post reached out to Cox Enterprises for comment, a spokesperson said Chambers "has never had an active role in Cox Enterprises or any of its businesses."
The spokesperson declined to comment further.

"Anne Beau Cox Chambers (born December 1, 1919) is an American media proprietor, who had a stake of interest in Cox Enterprises, a privately held media empire that includes newspapers, television, radio, cable television, and other businesses.[3]
She is the daughter of James M. Cox, a newspaper publisher and 1920 Democratic Presidential nominee, and his second wife, Margaretta Parker Blair. She owns and controls her father's business interests, through Cox Enterprises. For 33 years she co-owned the family company with her sister, Barbara Cox Anthony, who died on May 28, 2007.[3] She lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
Her net worth was estimated by Forbes at $16.1 billion in September 2014,[4] based principally on her equity interest in Cox Enterprises. [5]
Cox was born in Dayton, Ohio. She was married to Louis G. Johnson by whom she had two children: Katharine Ann (married 1st Jesse Kornbluth, married 2nd William P. Rayner) and Margaretta (married 1st James F. Granite, 2nd Dr. Alexander Taylor, 3rd Michael Rich). The marriage ended in divorce.
In 1955, she married Robert William Chambers, by whom she had a son, James Cox Chambers (an actor, dancer, and choreographer).
In 1974, upon the death of their brother, James M. Cox (known as "Jim Jr."), Chambers and Anthony gained a controlling interest in the family company. That same year Chambers became chairwoman of Atlanta Newspapers. Anthony became chairwoman of Dayton Newspapers, while her husband, Garner Anthony, became the administrative head of Cox Enterprises. In 1988 Anthony's son James Cox Kennedy became chairman and chief executive officer. Chambers remains a close advisor concerning the daily operation of the company.[3]
Active in business and politics, Chambers was appointed ambassador to Belgium by U.S. president Jimmy Carter, a post she held from 1977 to 1981. She was a director of the board of The Coca-Cola Company during the 1980s, and she was the first woman in Atlanta to serve as a bank director (Fulton National Bank). She was also the first woman in Atlanta appointed to the board of the city's chamber of commerce.[3]
Anne Cox Chambers holds the Chair of Atlanta Newspapers and serves as a Director of Cox Enterprises, one of the largest diversified media companies in the United States. It owns one of the nation's largest cable television businesses, Cox Communications, which provides Internet and telephone; publishes newspapers including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Palm Beach Post; owns and operates broadcast television and radio stations; and owns Manheim Auctions, an automobile auction firm. It also owns stakes in a variety of internet businesses, including Autotrader, the largest retail automotive shopping site in the world. The Ambassador's nephew Jim Kennedy is chairman of Cox Enterprises.

Corrupt American Courts help criminals avoid law and punishment
Looking Beyond Jeffrey Epstein
Jeffrey Epstein's indictment on pedophilia charges casts a net into politically powerful waters. The turbulence created by his arrest is apparent, as pundits wonder if former or current Presidents are implicated in his crimes.
At the same time, without any fanfare or announcement, another investigation into a different class of predator may have been quietly shelved.
Like Jeffrey Epstein, Melodie Scott preyed on the vulnerable and unprotected. Like Jeffrey Epstein, Melodie Scott's political connections seemed to ensure her invulnerability to legal repercussions.
Crimes Protected by the Powerful
Unlike Epstein, most of Scott's victims ended up dead. At one point in time, Melodie Scott was described as "the richest and most powerful conservator in California." She controlled the lives of hundreds of elderly and disabled-"files" she called them-whose assets and whose life decisions she managed. Scott decided if an elderly man got to see his kids, if he was allowed to marry or to vote and where he would live. The stroke of a gavel gave her power over these people, their money and their medical care.
When Melodie Scott ordered an unnecessary tracheotomy for Stevie Price, it turned into his death sentence. Stevie, a youngster who was the recipient of a $5 million dollar award following a "hospital error," died soon after the surgery. At that point, his award, which had been put into a trust which Scott controlled, was found to be depleted due to her expenses.
Lawrence Yetzer, who went into the hospital with a respiratory issue, was put on drugs which paralyzed his breathing, including Versed, Morphine, Phenobarbitol and Atracrium. He was then pulled off the ventilator and, of course, died. Questions remain unanswered about what happened to large sums of money from his trust, which Melodie Scott controlled.
Melodie Scott does not work alone. She is represented by attorneys, usually J. David Horspool or Bryan Hartnell. Her actions as a conservator must be approved by a judge. Following a number of articles in the San Bernardino County Sentinel about Judge Michael Welch and his seeming knee-jerk approval of whatever Scott presented to him, Welch suddenly resigned from the bench. Questions concerning his loan history were also published in the Sentinel.
Welch went on to serve as a "private judge."
He was replaced by Judge Kyle Brodie, who also has a fascinating loan history. Scott's cases have also been heard by Judge James Cox, Commissioner Michael McCoy, Judge Thomas Cahraman, Judge Rex Luther and others.
Is the Secret Service Investigation Shelved?
I was contacted in January of 2017 by a Special Agent from the Riverside Secret Service office. He told me that his agency was investigating alleged financial crimes by Melodie Scott. The Secret Service indeed has the mandate to investigate certain financial crimes.

"Cox Automotive is a provider of vehicle remarketing services and digital marketing and software solutions for automotive dealers and consumers. Cox Automotive includes Manheim, Dealer-Auction Ltd, Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book, vAuto, Dealer.com, Dealertrack, HomeNet Automotive, NextGear Capital, Xtime, Vinsolutions and a host of global businesses and brands serving auto dealers, manufacturers and financial institutions. (Insider tip: you have NO IDEA how profitable Mannheim Auto Auctions makes. Whew. Cox Cable, a TV/internet provider mostly west of the Mississippi, also makes a fortune, for a long time in second place behind the automotive entities.)
In June 2015, Cox Automotive announced the biggest vendor acquisition in the history of auto retailing by agreeing to pay $4 billion in cash for dealer software giant Dealertrack Technologies Inc. The acquisition closed in October 2015."
The TV stations were sold last summer. Just last week, "On February 15, 2019, Cox announced that Apollo Global Management would acquire a majority interest in the CMG television stations, as well as the Dayton radio stations and Ohio newspapers (whose operations are integrated with WHIO-TV), forming a new, as-yet-unnamed company that will retain Cox Media Group's management and operating structure; Cox Enterprises will hold a minority stake in this company.[19][20] Cox's other radio stations, as well as The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, are not included in the deal; Cox had previously said that any deal involving the television stations would not include radio stations or newspapers."
At one time, Cox Media Group/Cox Newspapers owned 31 newspapers. They now own these four (probably reflective to the family's places of residence– Anne Cox Chambers owns one home directly across West Paces Ferry Road from the Georgia governor's mansion in Atlanta, and the family is originally from Ohio, where James Cox was governor)

As you can tell, this story is just smokescreen.
Some salient facts:
1. Cox Media Group is *still* a privately-held family corporation.
2. Cox owns the only newspaper in Atlanta, and the ABC affiliate TV station.
3. Cox is known for never, ever talking about itself.
4. Anne Cox Chambers is consistently on Forbes' list and is 98 years old. Her Atlanta home is across West Paces Ferry from the Georgia governor's mansion, and is larger and significantly more attractive. Her net worth in 2014 was estimated at $16.1 billion. She is the wealthiest person in Georgia, and the 28th wealthiest person in the USA, and the 53rd wealthiest in the world.
5. Her father James M. Cox was the Governor of Ohio, and was the 1920 Democratic presidential nominee. Franklin D. Roosevelt was his running mate.
6. Cox Media Group sold 4 TV stations to Sinclair Broadcasting in 2014.
7. The current chairman, James Cox Kennedy, is almost never referred to by that name because *he doesn't like it. Kek.
Now that you know all that, some gossip from a buddy:
"Looks like MAYBE Cox is thinking about selling WSB to somebody. But, who? Sinclair Broadcast Group bought four TV stations from Cox in 2013. Maybe they're on the prowl again.
And, bigger question: If Cox sells its flagship TV station WSB, what happens to plans to merge the news staffs of Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB? Or was that plan always just hooey? And what of the expected layoffs at the AJC? How does that change?
Don't look to get a straight answer out of the corporate overlords – until the deal is inked. But, don't worry. They've got your back. It's where they keep the silver."
