Clinton-Appointed Judge Throws Out Palin Defamation Case Against New York Times - While Jury Still Deliberating
A federal judge on Monday tossed out Sarah Palin's libel case against the New York Times - while the jury is still deliberating.
The lawsuit centered around a New York Times op-ed that falsely implicated Palin's political action committee (PAC) for "political incitement" in the shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords.
In June 2017, the same day that a leftist shot Rep. Steve Scalise during a congressional baseball practice, the Times ran an op-ed headlined "America's Lethal Politics." The piece falsely claimed that Palin's PAC had shared a map with 20 Democratic lawmakers, including Giffords, in "stylized crosshairs" prior to her shooting. They claimed that "the link to political incitement was clear."
Palin says that former editorial page editor James Bennet defamed her by publishing the claim.
U.S. District Court Judge Jed Rakoff, a Clinton appointee tossed out the case and said Palin's lawyers did not present sufficient evidence against the New York Times.
Politico reported:
A judge has ruled that a libel lawsuit former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin filed against the New York Times over a 2017 editorial should be thrown out because her lawyers failed to produce evidence that the newspaper knew what it wrote about her was false or acted recklessly towards indications it was false.
The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Jed Rakoff came as a Manhattan jury was deliberating on Palin's suit, which claimed the Times defamed her by unfairly linking her to a 2011 shooting spree in Arizona that killed six people and gravely wounded then-Rep. Gabby Giffords.
Rakoff said he would continue to allow the jury to deliberate to a verdict and added that he considers an appeal in the case to be inevitable.

ICYMI: "Ex-New York Times editor takes blame for Sarah Palin error at defamation trial"

Ex-New York Times editor takes blame for Sarah Palin error at defamation trial
James Bennet, the former New York Times editorial page editor, said Tuesday that he was at fault for writing language into a 2017 piece falsely asserting a connection between a map circulated by Sarah Palin's political action committee and a mass shooting that wounded US Rep. Gabby Giffords.
Bennet took responsibility for the error while testifying at the Manhattan federal court trial in the defamation suit Palin brought against the newspaper over the editorial.
"This is my fault, right. I wrote those sentences," Bennet said while responding to questioning by Palin's attorney, Shane Vogt.
He took the blame while explaining an email he sent to editorial writer Elizabeth Williamson at 7:22 p.m. on June 14, 2017, the night the editorial was published online with a headline of "America's Lethal Politics."
Williamson had drafted the first iteration of the editorial earlier that day, and Bennet wrote to her to explain he had heavily edited the piece.
"Really reworked this one. Please take a look. I hope you see what I was trying to do. Thank you for the hard work today and sorry for the heavy edit," Bennet wrote to Williamson.
Vogt asked Bennet if he had requested Williamson fact check his changes, and Bennet pointed to the line in the email that stated "please take a look."
He then quickly said the error was solely his fault. "I'm not trying to shift the blame to anyone else," Bennet said.
The editorial was published the same day a gunman opened fire on GOP members of Congress, wounding Rep. Steve Scalise, at a Northern Virginia baseball diamond.
The piece sought to make a point that there was a pattern of violence against members of Congress - on both sides of the political spectrum - due to a culture of heated political rhetoric, Bennet said.
To make the point in the editorial, Bennet asserted that prior to the Virginia shooting, the gunman who opened fire on Rep. Giffords and others in 2011 was politically incited, in part because of a map Palin's PAC had circulated.
The map showed congressional districts, including Giffords', with stylized cross hairs that resembled a rifle's sights over them.
"The link to the political incitement was clear," the editorial said of the 2011 shooting.
"Before the shooting, Sarah Palin's political action committee circulated a map of targeted electoral districts that put Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs," the next sentence of the editorial went on.
A link between the gunman from Arizona and politics was never established and the idea it was linked to the cross hairs map was debunked years prior to the editorial.
A columnist at the Times, Ross Douthat, informed Bennet that he'd published the error in an email the same night it went live online.
The next morning, Bennet emailed his colleagues on the editorial page soon after 5 a.m., and they worked up a correction to the piece that was published that morning.
Before he took the stand Tuesday, Linda Cohn, another editorial page editor who worked on the piece, testified she was devastated that they'd included the error.
"Getting anything wrong as an editor - it's just one of the worst feelings ever," she told the jury.
"You feel horrible. You never want to have anything in the paper you have to correct. It leads to many sleepless nights after," she said.

https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter
Dear A.G.,
It is with sadness that I write to tell you that I am resigning from The New York Times.
I joined the paper with gratitude and optimism three years ago. I was hired with the goal of bringing in voices that would not otherwise appear in your pages: first-time writers, centrists, conservatives and others who would not naturally think of The Times as their home. The reason for this effort was clear: The paper's failure to anticipate the outcome of the 2016 election meant that it didn't have a firm grasp of the country it covers. Dean Baquet and others have admitted as much on various occasions. The priority in Opinion was to help redress that critical shortcoming.
I was honored to be part of that effort, led by James Bennet. I am proud of my work as a writer and as an editor. Among those I helped bring to our pages: the Venezuelan dissident Wuilly Arteaga; the Iranian chess champion Dorsa Derakhshani; and the Hong Kong Christian democrat Derek Lam. Also: Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Masih Alinejad, Zaina Arafat, Elna Baker, Rachael Denhollander, Matti Friedman, Nick Gillespie, Heather Heying, Randall Kennedy, Julius Krein, Monica Lewinsky, Glenn Loury, Jesse Singal, Ali Soufan, Chloe Valdary, Thomas Chatterton Williams, Wesley Yang, and many others.
But the lessons that ought to have followed the election-lessons about the importance of understanding other Americans, the necessity of resisting tribalism, and the centrality of the free exchange of ideas to a democratic society-have not been learned. Instead, a new consensus has emerged in the press, but perhaps especially at this paper: that truth isn't a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else.
Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times. But Twitter has become its ultimate editor. As the ethics and mores of that platform have become those of the paper, the paper itself has increasingly become a kind of performance space. Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history. Now, history itself is one more ephemeral thing molded to fit the needs of a predetermined narrative.
My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist; I have learned to brush off comments about how I'm "writing about the Jews again." Several colleagues perceived to be friendly with me were badgered by coworkers. My work and my character are openly demeaned on company-wide Slack channels where masthead editors regularly weigh in. There, some coworkers insist I need to be rooted out if this company is to be a truly "inclusive" one, while others post ax emojis next to my name. Still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Twitter with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are.
There are terms for all of this: unlawful discrimination, hostile work environment, and constructive discharge. I'm no legal expert. But I know that this is wrong.
I do not understand how you have allowed this kind of behavior to go on inside your company in full view of the paper's entire staff and the public. And I certainly can't square how you and other Times leaders have stood by while simultaneously praising me in private for my courage. Showing up for work as a centrist at an American newspaper should not require bravery.
Part of me wishes I could say that my experience was unique. But the truth is that intellectual curiosity-let alone risk-taking-is now a liability at The Times. Why edit something challenging to our readers, or write something bold only to go through the numbing process of making it ideologically kosher, when we can assure ourselves of job security (and clicks) by publishing our 4000th op-ed arguing that Donald Trump is a unique danger to the country and the world? And so self-censorship has become the norm.
What rules that remain at The Times are applied with extreme selectivity. If a person's ideology is in keeping with the new orthodoxy, they and their work remain unscrutinized. Everyone else lives in fear of the digital thunderdome. Online venom is excused so long as it is directed at the proper targets.

New York Times Meltdown Plays Out in Private Facebook Group
"'We do not tolerate racist language regardless of intent' might be the most racist statement I've ever read"
The "resignation" of star New York Times science writer Donald McNeil Jr. has sparked a furious back-and-forth among Times staffers, many of whom are outraged over the Gray Lady's handling of his departure.
The Washington Free Beacon reviewed a series of postings to a Facebook group for current and former Times staffers, where a tense debate is unfolding over McNeil's exit. One camp argues that his dismissal was justified and another asserts it set a troubling precedent, which the New York Times union should have done more to prevent.
"What ever happened to the notion of worker solidarity ... to giving a fellow worker the benefit of the doubt," asked Steven Greenhouse, who spent three decades covering labor issues for the Times. "And why didn't the NewsGuild do far more to defend and protect the job of a long-time Times employee, one who at times did tireless, heroic work on behalf of the Guild to help improve pay and conditions for all NYT employees?" McNeil had excoriated management's attempts to freeze pension plans in 2012, calling those involved "belligerent idiots."
Times crossword columnist Deb Amlen accused Greenhouse of an excessive focus on the "perpetrator," arguing that he and others should shift their attention to the people McNeil had "harmed."
"Why is it that the focus in discussions like this almost always [is] on ruining the perpetrator's life, and not those who were harmed by [his actions]," she asked. Reached for comment, Amlen told the Free Beacon this is a "private group" and that she would "appreciate it if you do not use anything I said or wrote."
The back-and-forth provides a window into the latest racial controversy roiling the paper, which saw a revolt among minority staffers over the summer after publishing an op-ed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.). Opinion editor James Bennet ultimately lost his job.
McNeil's ouster came nearly two years after the incident that precipitated it. While chaperoning high school students on a pricey trip to Peru, the science reporter responded to a question from a student about whether one of her classmates should have been suspended for using the n-word. In the process, he uttered the offending syllables himself. An internal Times investigation found his judgment wanting but stopped short of firing him.
Only after the Daily Beast published an account of the incident, thrusting it into the public realm for the first time, was McNeil pushed out. "We do not tolerate racist language regardless of intent," Dean Baquet, the paper's executive editor, told staff in an email.
McNeil's resignation on Friday-and Baquet's post hoc explanation that intent doesn't matter-renewed the bitter debate among staff, with reporters warring with each other in public and private.

>Sarah Palin's Defamation Lawsuit
moar sauce
U.S.AUGUST 28, 2020 / 6:12 PM / UPDATED 21 HOURS AGO
Sarah Palin can sue New York Times for defamation: court ruling
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday rejected the New York Times' bid to dismiss Sarah Palin's defamation lawsuit over a 2017 editorial she said falsely linked her to a mass shooting.
U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan said that while much of Palin's case was circumstantial, it was strong enough for a jury to find the Times and former editorial page editor James Bennet acted with "actual malice by clear and convincing evidence." in publishing the editorial.
Rakoff scheduled a Feb. 1, 2021 trial.
"We're disappointed in the ruling but are confident we will prevail at trial when a jury hears the facts," Times spokeswoman Danielle Rhoades-Ha said in an email.
Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate and former Alaska governor, sued over a June 14, 2017 editorial published after an Alexandria, Virginia, shooting that wounded four people, including then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
The editorial referred to a January 2011 shooting where six people died and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was seriously wounded, and said Palin's political action committee had before that shooting circulated a map that put 20 Democrats including Giffords under "stylized cross hairs."
It also contrasted the shootings, saying the Scalise attack had "no sign of incitement as direct as in the Giffords attack."
The Times later corrected the editorial, saying there was no link between "political rhetoric" and the Giffords shooting, and Bennet has said he had not intended to blame Palin.
But Rakoff said Bennet's having substantially rewritten an earlier draft, and admission he was aware "incitement" could mean a call to violence, could suggest actual malice.
The judge also said evidence Bennet may have ignored materials inconsistent with his "angle" for the editorial could suggest his reckless disregard for the truth.
Palin's lawyers, Shane Vogt and Ken Turkel, in an email said she appreciated Rakoff's "careful consideration of the merits."
The case is Palin v New York Times Co et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 17-04853.

Judge Allows Sarah Palin's Defamation Lawsuit Against New York Times to Proceed
U.S. Judge Jed S. Rakoff, a Bill Clinton appointee, allowed Sarah Palin's defamation lawsuit against the New York Times to proceed, saying that a jury should decide whether editorial page editor James Bennet acted with "actual malice" in writing that Palin was responsible for "political incitement" that led to the mass shooting in Tuscon, Arizona, in January 2011.
The Times published the editorial in the wake of a June 2017 mass shooting by a deranged leftist who targeted Republican members of Congress at their baseball practice. The Tuscon shooter was mentally disturbed; accusations against Palin had long since been disproved.
The Times issued a correction, but Palin sued. Rakoff dismissed the lawsuit, but it was reinstated by the Second Circuit. (Ironically, Bennet recently resigned as editorial page editor under pressure from "woke" reporters.)
In his ruling Friday, Rakoff rejected efforts by Palin's legal team to argue that the tough "actual malice" standard for public figures should not apply, or that the Times was liable, regardless of intent, if there was a possibility readers could make a defamatory intepretation.
But he said a jury ought to decide whether the Times, through Bennet, acted with actual malice:
[T]aken in the light most favorable to plaintiff [Palin], the evidence shows Bennet came up with an angle for the Editorial, ignored the articles brought to his attention that were inconsistent with his angle, disregarded the results ... [of] research that he commissioned, and ultimately made the point he set out to make in reckless disregard of the truth[.]
There was also evidence to the contrary, he said - that Bennet had drawn an "innocent inference" - but the question was one for the jury to decide, according to the "clear and convincing" evidentiary standard laid down in New York Times v. Sullivan.

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/sarah-palin-gets-trial-date-in-new-york-times-defamation-suit-1.1486573
(Bloomberg) – Former Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and the New York Times are headed for trial over her claim that the paper libeled her in an editorial that linked her to the 2011 shooting of former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords.
In a ruling Friday in federal court in Manhattan, U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff rejected both sides' request for a ruling in their favor in the three-year-old case without a trial.
He dismissed the former Alaska governor's argument that she shouldn't have to prove that the Times had acted with "actual malice" when it published the editorial in 2017. And he rejected the newspaper's argument that the lawsuit should be thrown out because Palin couldn't prove actual malice.
The editorial tied the Gifford shooting to a map, issued by Palin's political action committee, that put cross-hairs over the congresswoman and 19 other Democrats.
Rakoff noted that under a landmark Supreme Court decision, public officials must show actual malice defined as the knowing and reckless disregard for the truth to prove libel. The editor responsible for the editorial, James Bennet, had ignored colleagues who raised concerns about linking the crosshairs map to the shooting, the judge said.
When viewed "in a light most favorable" to Palin, "a rational finder of fact" could find actual malice, the judge wrote. On other hand, he noted, there is also "considerable evidence" that Bennet "simply drew the innocent inference" that the map might invite violence.

New York Times staffers say leadership 'terrified of the young wokes'
By Jon Levine and Keith J. Kelly July 18, 2020 | 10:33am
The Gray Lady's convulsions continue.
Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson says she's dismayed by the troubles surrounding the New York Times op-ed section, particularly the departure of its editor James Bennet after he published a commentary by a U.S. senator calling for military force to quell riots.
"I don't think that James Bennet should have been forced out at The Times," Abramson told The Post, adding she "felt terrible" about it.
"He and I worked together in the Washington Bureau of the Times and I think he is one of the great journalists of our time. So I was very sad to see him pushed out," Abramson said.
Abramson, who led the Times newsroom from September 2011 to May 2014, expressed sympathy for Bari Weiss, who shockingly resigned from the op-ed desk this week in a blistering open letter to publisher A.G. Sulzberger. Weiss said she'd been bullied and criticized by a Twitter-obsessed Times culture increasingly intolerant of any ideas outside its progressive, leftist orthodoxy.
Abramson said she'd been told by friends still at the company that its internal Slack channels have become "mean-spirited," with employees frequently "overreacting" to trivialities.
"I feel terrible for [Bari] if it's true that she was bullied and that colleagues said the things she said they did. Anybody would empathize with someone who had gone through that," Abramson said. "I had heard about a lot of overheated statements shooting back and forth on Slack. For more than a year I have heard about it."
Abramson was at the Times before the newsroom had the Slack messaging system and when Twitter was a more benign place - and said it was "probable" that the growth of these platforms had impacted staffers since her departure.
The famed editor, who was ousted after then-publisher Arthur Sulzberger claimed she'd misled him over the hiring of a new co-managing editor, pushed back against some of Weiss' claims.
"I really take issue with the notion that The Times editors cede their authority to Twitter and that a lefty cabal is somehow deciding what appears in the New York Times. That is ridiculous," she said.
Her assessment was challenged by multiple current Times insiders, however, who said the "diversity channel" on Slack often devolves into a cesspool.
"It started as a place for journalism and deteriorated into a place for rage," one Times staffer told The Post. "The masthead reads Slack and doesn't do anything about it."
Times brass, in fact, are "terrified of the young 'wokes,'" the source said.
"It's [Bari] as a person that many find unacceptable," added a second person familiar with the matter. "She doesn't fit neatly into boxes of being on a side, and that really frustrates a lot of people."
In a statement responding to Weiss' missive, a Times spokeswoman said the paper was "committed to fostering an environment of honest, searching and empathetic dialogue between colleagues, one where mutual respect is required of all."
That claim, however, has been undermined by how Weiss' colleagues freely vented against her on Twitter in starkly personal terms both before and after her resignation.
Styles reporter Taylor Lorenz in May publicly attacked Weiss' story about MMA commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan as "dishonest" and "untrue." In her piece Weiss attributed Rogan's popularity with men to his embrace of more traditional expressions of masculinity like hunting and body building.
"When did it become okay for a @nytimes reporter to publicly describe a @nytopinion columnist as "dishonest?" asked former Times opinion columnist Joe Nocera in a public rebuke of Lorenz.
Lorenz later argued she was not attacking Weiss' credibility and that she "enjoys reading Bari's work."
In June, Peter S. Goodman, a London-based economics correspondent for The Times, compared her opinions to "holocaust denial."
After her resignation letter was published, many of Weiss' colleagues dismissed the document.
Tech columnist Kara Swisher described the letter as "decidedly inaccurate" and a "sad" "pile of words."
Nikole Hannah-Jones, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her work on the now widely discredited New York Times 1619 project, pointedly suggested the letter was false.
"Interesting how everything in this letter is simply taken as fact," she said.

Resignation Letter of NYTs Bari Weiss
Fucking Nails It!
(1 of 2)
Dear A.G.,
It is with sadness that I write to tell you that I am resigning from The New York Times.

Cancel Culture - What Happens When Everything Gets Cancelled?
Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. It may be an innocuous word or tweet from years ago, that through the long memory of social media can resurface, leading to public group shaming of an individual.
Such shaming typically goes only one way, based on one's politics. For others it's just a matter of being caught in the stampede. A "Saturday Night Live" cast member, Shane Gillis, made a derogatory comment about Asians a few years ago and was fired for his comments.
Uber liberals however, like MSNBC's Joy Reid, get a pass for past homophobic blog posts. Other woke liberals who toe the line on global warming and abortion also get a pass for racially insensitive behavior like wearing blackface. They weren't singing 'Mammy" with Al Jolson a century ago, but wearing blackface far more recently. Examples include Howard Stern, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Virginia Governor Ralph (Coonman) Northam.
The cancel culture has morphed to cancelling America because of who it might offend. What happens when everything gets cancelled and we become a society described by letters and numbers, eliminating our rich history and traditions? The cancel culture is leading us to an Orwellian dystopic society, from America the Beautiful to The Hunger Games.
The self-appointed censors have found their voices after George Floyd's death and the immediate end to COVID-19 threats, with protests and riots not only now condoned but actually encouraged. What are some of the casualties?
Gone with the Wind, a multi-Academy Award winning classic movie was cancelled from HBO due to "racial insensitivity." Several Netflix shows were cancelled due to an Australian comedian's use of blackface. Yet Northam and Trudeau haven't been cancelled out of government.
Police shows have also been cancelled, at least the ones not portraying a multigendered police force concerned more about their carbon footprints than catching the bad guys.
Newspaper editors have been cancelled for the high crime of publishing op-ed pieces, which they invited, written by a conservative senator, as was the case for NY Times editor James Bennet. So much for the Times motto, "All the news that's fit to print." They should just change their names to the Democrat Party Times.

Huffpo Wants to 'Cancel' Black Celebs Who Speak Out Against Riots and Destruction
Cancel Culture has ratcheted into high gear in the wake of the George Floyd riots, with a soccer player getting fired for his wife's tweet, a church losing its lease over a pastor "liking" supposedly insensitive tweets, and New York Times op-ed editor James Bennet stepping down amid outrage that he published an op-ed by a U.S. senator. Huffpost's Taryn Finley apparently wants to redirect Cancel Culture - against black celebrities who refuse to toe the line on the left's race narrative.
Her headline: "Yes, Silence Can Be Violence - But These Celebs Should Shut Up," with a picture of - you guessed it - black celebrities. "Too many Black stars have made comments condemning the movement for Black lives. It may be time to leave some of your faves behind."
Taryn Finley suggests that every time a black celebrity "outs themselves as strong and wrong about the Black Lives Matter movement," she wants them to "go." Just in case it wasn't clear what she meant, she included a tweet about canceling celebrities.
Finley warned that some black "celebrities and influencers have said some incredibly weird sh*t." Naturally, she criticized "non-Black celebs" as well, but she said, "it's especially hurtful hearing Black stars say these things during such a critical time."

Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton said that "woke children" now run the New York Times Monday following backlash over an op-ed he wrote that was published by the paper.
Cotton's op-ed, published June 3, called for the U.S. military to possibly be deployed as backup in an effort to squash violent protests following George Floyd's death. NYT employees openly protested the decision on social media, claiming the opinion piece put black coworkers in danger.
Former NYT editorial page editor James Bennet defended the decision to run the op-ed on Twitter June 3. The NYT later apologized, announcing that a rushed editorial process" resulted in publishing a piece "that did not meet our standards." Bennet resigned, effectively immediately, from his position as editorial page editor Sunday.
Cotton spoke on "Fox & Friends" Monday about the situation, noting that the NYT asked him "to explain in further detail" previous comments he made regarding possibly deploying the U.S. military if the National Guard couldn't help the violence on the ground.
"And within a day it turned into something like a struggle session from the cultural revolution in Mao's China, where the adults had to prostrate themselves and apologize in front of the woke children that apparently now run The New York Times newsroom," Cotton said. "And now you've had the opinion page editor have to resign."
"But let's be clear, this all goes back to the publisher and his unwillingness to stand up to a bunch of 20-year-olds and 30-year-olds who were raised on social justice seminars on our campuses," Cotton added. "They need to behave like grown-ups, not like children, who are confronted with an opinion that they don't like."
The Republican senator continued on to tell viewers that no one should "expect to see both sides of the story in The New York Times." He pointed out that the publication has announced it will reduce the number of op-eds they run following the debacle and called out Katie Kingsbury, who is now the acting editorial page editor through November.
"So I will say in advance to the world, you're welcome for reducing the amount of left-wing nonsense that you have to read in The New York Times editorial pages," Cotton said. "And just look at the woman they appointed on an acting basis to take over that page [Kingsbury]. She is a far left radical who will throw in with, not stand up to, the woke mob of children at The New York Times who get triggered any time they hear a conservative opinion."

Cotton, for his part, told Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" that the paper capitulated to "a woke child mob from their own newsroom that apparently gets triggered if they're presented with any opinion contrary to their own,as opposed to telling the woke children in their newsroom this is the workplace, not a social-justice seminar on campus."
Cotton insisted that his op-ed simply called for the military to be a backstop in the event that police are overwhelmed.
common sense is dead
This highlights nicely a problem I've been noticing as of lately.. All the liberal colleges are spewing out these angry psycho 20yo kids , and they should be angry, since they spend thousands of dollars to be lied to and learn nothing, never learning any job skill set…but they just can't function in society.
They are incredibly entitled, opinionated (brainwashed), can't hold an argument about any event person historical figure or justify why they think something, they are simply told to follow the party line. They pick their freinds based on who is like them and thinks like them.. And then you get clicks in the workplace and a toxic environment where shun everyone who is not like them. If they are the majority of the workforce one day, they will not hire anyone who thinks differently. Also there is a severe discrimination against people over 50 in big liberal cities. I swear they just want pretty young girls and guys running around.. The people over 50 can't get hired anymore. Too much experience and also let's face ot, at 50 most of us don't look like skinny supermodels.
Just wanted to throw that out there and see if anyone has noticed similar trends in our society.
This will become a crisis one day because the people running the country would be dumb little nazis who destroy anyone who disagrees with them. Working with young people who have this mentality and hold a grudge against you is a knightmare! Fake pretencious and entitled little bitches.. They think and act like they know everything, but in reality their colleges have left them desperately ignorant….
Ugh where is this country going! People need to wake up! This bubble in the liberal minds has to be taken down!

NYT Editorial Page Head Quits After Internal Revolt Over Tom Cotton Op-Ed
The New York Times' Editorial Page editor, James Bennet, has resigned 'effective immediately' after publishing an Op-Ed from Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK) which called for the deployment of the military to quell civil unrest under the Insurrection Act of 1807.
The Times announced Bennet's resignation in a Sunday statement which also noted that deputy editorial page editor, Jim Dao, is stepping off the masthead and being reassigned to the newsroom. Bennet, who became Eitorial Page Editor in May, 2016 will be replaced by Katie Kingsbury, who joined the Times in 2017 after contributing the Daily Beast, BusinessWeek, Time, Reuters and Fortune.
Cotton's Op-Ed caused a schism within the Times, with 'woke' younger staffers insisting that Cotton's divergent opinion had no place on the platform, and older employees defending the decision to publish.
Times publisher A.G. Sulzburger said in a statement "James is a journalist of enormous talent and integrity who believes deeply in the mission of The Times. He oversaw a significant transformation of the Opinion department, which broadened the range of voices we publish and pushed us into new formats like video, graphics and audio. I'm grateful for his many contributions."

New York Times opinion editor resigns over Tom Cotton's op-ed column
https://archive.vn/3gwPN
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/jun/7/James-Bennet-new-york-times-opinion-editor-resign-/
By Victor Morton - The Washington Times - Updated: 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020
The editor of the New York Times editorial page resigned Sunday after several days of strife over a U.S. senator's op-ed column.
Not only will James Bennet leave the position, but Jim Dao, the deputy editorial page editor who oversees Op-Eds, will step down from his masthead position, the Times announced.
"Last week we saw a significant breakdown in our editing processes, not the first we've experienced in recent years," Publisher A. G. Sulzberger wrote in a note to staff. "James and I agreed that it would take a new team to lead the department through a period of considerable change."

Media silent on dismissal of DNC suit against Julian Assange
A federal court ruling last Tuesday dismissing a Democratic National Committee (DNC) civil suit against Julian Assange "with prejudice" was a devastating indictment of the US ruling elite's campaign to destroy the WikiLeaks founder. It exposed as a fraud the entire "Russiagate" conspiracy theory peddled by the Democratic Party, the corporate media and the intelligence agencies for the past three years.
The decision, by Judge John Koeltl of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, rejected the smears that Assange "colluded" with Russia. It upheld his status as a journalist and publisher and dismissed claims that WikiLeaks' 2016 publication of leaked emails from the DNC was "illegal."
Despite the significance of the ruling, and its clear newsworthiness, it has been subjected to an almost complete blackout by the entire media in the US and internationally.
The universal silence on the court decision-extending from the New York Times (which buried a six-paragraph report on the ruling on page 25) and the Washington Post, to "alternative" outlets such as the Intercept, the television evening news programs and the publications of the pseudo-left-can be described only as a coordinated political conspiracy.
Its aim is to suppress any discussion of the court's exposure of the slanders used to malign and isolate Assange, and to justify the unprecedented international pursuit of him over WikiLeaks' exposure of US war crimes, surveillance operations and diplomatic conspiracies.
The New York Times, the Washington Post and other corporate outlets have relentlessly smeared Assange as a "Russian agent" and depicted him as the linchpin of a conspiracy hatched in Moscow to deprive Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton of the presidency in the 2016 US elections.
Now that their claims have been subjected to judicial review and exposed as a tissue of lies and fabrications, they have adopted a policy of radio silence. There is no question that if the court ruling had been in favour of the DNC, it would have been greeted with banner headlines and wall-to-wall coverage.
The response exposes these publications as state propagandists and active participants in the campaign by the Democratic Party, the Trump administration and the entire ruling elite to condemn Assange for the rest of his life to an American prison for the "crime" of publishing the truth.
The editors and senior writers at these outlets, such as New York Times editorial page editor James Bennet, are in constant contact with the CIA and other intelligence agencies. Behind the scenes, they work out an editorial line that will advance the interests of the Wall Street banks and the military-intelligence apparatus. At the same time, they decide what news and information they will hide from the American and world population.
The efforts by the mainstream news outlets to bury the ruling presents a clear example of the type of media manipulation that has led millions of people to seek alternative sources of news on the internet, of which WikiLeaks is itself an example.
Judge Koeltl's decision made plain the anti-democratic and dictatorial logic of the DNC case against Assange. He warned: "If WikiLeaks could be held liable for publishing documents concerning the DNC's political, financial and voter-engagement strategies simply because the DNC labels them 'secret' and trade secrets, then so could any newspaper or other media outlet." This, he stated, would "override the First Amendment" protection to freedom of the press mandated by the US Constitution.
Koeltl's finding was an absolute vindication of Assange and WikiLeaks' 2016 publications exposing the attempts by the DNC to rig the Democratic Party primaries against self-declared "democratic socialist" Bernie Sanders in favour of Hillary Clinton.
The judge found these releases, together with the publication of Clinton's secret speeches to Wall Street banks, in which she pledged to be their representative, were "matters of the highest public concern." They "allowed the American electorate to look behind the curtain of one of the two major political parties in the United States during a presidential election."
Koeltl, moreover, found there was no evidence to justify the DNC's assertion that WikiLeaks had colluded with the Russian state to obtain the material. Assange and WikiLeaks have always maintained that the documents were not provided to them by the Putin regime.

NYT Opinion Editor Recuses Himself After Democratic Senator Brother Joins 2020 Race
Finally, the New York Times opinion section has acknowledged it has a political conflict of interest. All it took was the brother of its top editor to run for president.
That's right. New York Times Editorial Page Editor James Bennet, formerly a top editor at the Atlantic who was credited with turning around the magazine, has, according to a statement, recused himself from coverage of the 2020 presidential election now that his brother, Colorado Senator Michael Bennet, has entered the race.
Bennet said Thursday he's running for the Democratic presidential nomination, offering himself as a centrist alternative to the increasingly leftward tilt of the Democrats vyng to challenge Trump in 2020.

Former ALP official and Catholic priest jailed for 17 years over child abuse tourism
Jenny Noyes - June 4, 2021
A former NSW Labor Party official and priest who abused boys on "abhorrent" child sex tourism trips in south-east Asia, during which he also produced abuse images, has been jailed for 17 years.
Peter Andrew Hansen pleaded guilty in February to 31 charges, including eight counts of engaging in sexual intercourse with children under 16 outside Australia, and 20 counts of producing child abuse material.
In addition to the Commonwealth offences relating to the production of child abuse material in Asia, the 31 charges include two counts of the NSW offence of possessing child abuse material. Hansen received a separate sentence for those counts of four years and three months, to be served concurrently with his 17-year sentence for the Commonwealth offences and backdated to his 2018 arrest at Sydney airport.
From 2014 until his arrest, Hansen used Facebook and an encrypted instant message program called Brosix to connect with fixers and other consumers of child abuse material to discuss and share the material and arrange meetings with young boys in the Philippines and Vietnam.
In messages from October 2016, revealed in court documents, Hansen complains to a user called 'Maliboy Hornbag' about a "dud" experience in Cebu, and discusses plans for an upcoming "nude party", including his location requirements - "high wall", "locked gate", "caretaker not onsite".
Hansen says "I could have 5-8 in the house, we could lock the doors and pull the curtains".
He tells Maliboy Hornbag he hoped to "keep the camera busy" on the trip and describes one small boy as a "sucker".
On November 5, Hansen arrived in the Philippines and met with his fixer, 34-year-old Filipino national Joey Donozo, with whom he communicated on Facebook.
Donozo took photographs of local boys in Cebu under the pretence of a modelling shoot and would send them to Hansen, who would tell him which ones he liked and wanted to meet. Hansen would pay Donozo the equivalent of $8 AUD each time he brought children to his hostel.
On November 11, Donozo met with 11 boys and took them to a rented villa where Hansen was waiting with gifts of polo shirts and swimming shorts, which he instructed them to change into from their school uniforms. Hansen took several photos of the boys while clothed before they were instructed to go to his room and undress.
Hansen, then in his underwear, took further photos of the boys as he instructed them to remove their clothing. He took photos of them in various sexual poses before instructing them to stand in a line. He then performed sex acts on each boy.
Prior to his arrest, Hansen had been the president of Labor's Cabramatta branch. He had also run as a Labor candidate in the 2016 Fairfield Council election. He was a Catholic priest in Melbourne from 1996 until early 2011 and, before that, a lawyer.
In his sentencing remarks in the NSW District Court on Friday, Judge James Bennett said Hansen's "abhorrent conduct" included a high level of planning and organisation.
He said he was not persuaded that the offender was "contrite" in his evidence, that he "had the capacity for manipulation" and sought to deflect responsibility by repeatedly using the term "compulsion" to explain away his "prolific and prolonged" conduct.
The remorse Hansen expressed was "more concerned with his own predicament" than what he had done to the children, Judge Bennett said, adding it "beggars belief" that Hansen said he did not appreciate the extent of the harm to his victims until he read their statements.
"Protecting children from such behaviour is important," Judge Bennett said. "These images can be stored anywhere and published anywhere in the world for many years. Each time the victims are revictimised by such occurrences."
Appearing in court via video link, Hansen did not react as Judge Bennett read out his sentence.
He will be eligible for parole in October 2032.

Ex-priest and Labor Party figure Peter Andrew Hansen faces sentencing for possessing child abuse material
HEATH PARKES-HUPTON - JUNE 3, 2021
WARNING: Disturbing content
An ex-Sydney Labor Party figure and Catholic priest told a mystery friend he liked to "keep the camera busy" as he sexually exploited young boys while on depraved holidays in Southeast Asia.
Peter Andrew Hansen faces sentence in the NSW District Court after pleading guilty to 31 charges, including sexual intercourse with a child and 15 counts of producing child abuse material, after his vile work was uncovered in 2018.
The former lawyer confessed to filming and assaulting young boys aged between 10 and 14 for his own sexual gratification while overseas, with the earliest of his raft of offences coming in 2014.
On Thursday the court was told Hansen, now 63, sexually abused nine different children and photographed and filmed several others during trips to Vietnam and the Philippines over four years.
Judge James Bennett read perverted online exchanges Hansen had with a person dubbed "Maliboy Hornbag", during which they rated their sick images and complained of the prices for meeting up with kids.
In one exchange Hansen, the Labor Party's former Cabramatta branch president, sent two pictures of naked boys to the mystery man and asked, "Did you like the two in the garden?"
The one-time Fairfield Council candidate went on to say he "hope(d) to keep the camera busy" during his next meeting with children.
"I am still thinking how I can milk the max out of my poolside weekend," Hansen wrote.
Hansen also discussed how much he paid to spend time with the boys, revealing that he bought them "stunning" striped Bonds underpants as gifts from Woolworths.
"Most get 250/300 (pesos) and a gift plus an outing and food," he said.
"Outstanding performers and those I really like I might pump up to 500 but that's the absolute limit."
In another message he bragged that his position as a "businessman" meant the frequent trips to Asia would not be seen as suspicious.
Judge Bennett said the "abhorrent nature of the commentary" in the messages "illuminate the attitude of the offender ... toward the egregious misconduct on which he is to be sentenced here today".
The court was told Hansen organised for boys to be sent to the hotels where he was staying. He would let them swim in the pool before taking them to his room to photograph and perform sex acts on the children.
Judge Bennett, reading the agreed facts tendered to the court, said Hansen "talked dirty" to at least one of his victims as he sexually assaulted the boy.
Hansen was arrested on his arrival from Singapore into Sydney on October 6, 2018, after Australian authorities were tipped off about his predatory conduct.
Among the 100,000 files Australian Federal Police discovered on his electronic devices were videos and pictures of young boys lying naked on beds or in bathtubs, sometimes in groups or masturbating.
Some of the material had been downloaded as early as 2008 and as recently as 2018. It was all meticulously filed under categories specifying where the material was filmed, what child was shown and acts depicted.
At a sentencing hearing in February, Hansen told the court he was "ashamed" of himself, saying he had fallen short of his own standards.
"I didn't only exploit their age, I exploited the fact they came from a poor Asian country," he said.
Hansen, who has been in custody since his arrest, served as a Catholic priest in the Melbourne Archdiocese between 1996 and 2011.
Hansen's sentencing continues.

==Digg on Michael Bennet==
'''Can the Bennet brothers save the Establishment?'''
By Ben Terris The Washington Post Nov 1, 2019
For all the scandals, screw-ups and controversial hires, '''James Bennet''''s colleagues at the '''New York Times''' generally like working with him. '''James, who oversees the editorial page''' and is rumored to be a candidate to run the newsroom after Executive Editor Dean Baquet steps down, has a reputation for being intelligent, loyal and deft with a red pen...
'''Michael Bennet: the Democratic senator from Colorado, soon-to-be candidate for president and James' big brother.'''
When James was editor of the Atlantic magazine, '''the company changed its ethics guidelines to allow him to donate to his brother's Senate campaign'''. In addition to giving $2,400 to both the primary and the general, he'd sit in on messaging phone calls, tweak speeches and occasionally travel to Denver.
