ANOTHER Obama sleeper exposed
Former National Security Council director under President Trump was investigated for 'espionage, diverting official trips and buying Jewish girlfriend a swastika pendant'
Details of a 2019 investigation into Trump's former National Security Council director for Russian affairs Andrew Peek has been kept under wraps
DailyMail.com can reveal the probe involved suspicious activity that allegedly included favors from State Department staffers he dated
He also allegedly diverted official trips to unrelated destinations in the Czech Republic and Qatar - where he once bought a 'swastika pendant' for a girlfriend
Peek, who was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iraq and Iran at the time, is said to have dated a Czech model with whom he'd discuss foreign policy
January 11, 2023
A former senior director at the National Security Council was under an espionage-related investigation for months before he joined the White House, sources have told DailyMail.com.
Dr. Andrew Peek, NSC senior director for European and Russian affairs under President Trump, was marched out of the White House amid a reported 'security investigation' in January 2020.
The details of the spy probe have remained a mystery - until now.
Sources close to the investigation claimedhis alleged suspicious activity that sparked the probe in 2019 included persuading a State Department staffer to forward him her high-ranking boss's emails, diverting official trips to unrelated destinations in the Czech Republic and Qatar, and even buying a 'swastika pendant' for his then-girlfriend on one Doha trip.
A spokesperson for Peek told DailyMail.com the claims were 'false' and 'salacious mud-slinging'.
Peek was working for the State Department at the time of the October 2019 probe, when he was suddenly tapped by Donald Trump's National Security Advisor (NSA) Robert O'Brien to join his White House team in a highly sensitive role: leading the Russia desk.

Andrew Peek
DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE FOR IRAQ AND IRAN
BUREAU OF NEAR EASTERN AFFAIRS
DECEMBER 11, 2017 - OCTOBER 24, 2019
Andrew Peek's term ended on October 24, 2019.
Andrew L. Peek was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Prior to joining the State Department, he was a Fellow at the Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas while finishing his Ph.D. in international relations under Dr. Eliot Cohen at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. His writing has been published in Foreign Affairs and The Wall Street Journal, among other outlets, and he has appeared regularly to discuss foreign policy issues on television.
Before entering academia, Peek served as a U.S. Army intelligence officer. General David Petraeus requested him personallyfor his Commanders' Initiatives Group in Afghanistan, wherehe served as the strategic advisor on intelligence and special operations issues for General John Allen, Petraeus's successor. In that role he was Gen. Allen's personal advisor for direct action, foreign internal defense, intelligence, and Pakistani aspects of the war. He also advised on the commander's meetings with foreign intelligence agencies, other national representatives, ministerial conferences at NATO, and interagency meetings with the White House. He subsequently served as a reservist with Joint Special Operations Command.
Prior to his service in Afghanistan, Peek served as the national security and foreign affairs advisor for two different U.S. Senators, Gordon Smith of Oregon and Mike Johanns of Nebraska. During the tenure of both, he developed a variety of bills and policy that were voted into law. These included the primary Iran sanctions bill of the 110th Congress, which served as the basis in the next Congress for the most significant sanctions law on Iran in 15 years.
Peek graduated from Princeton with High Honors in 2003 and received a Master's degree from the Harvard Kennedy School in 2005, where he served as a research assistant for Dr. Graham Allison's U.S. Foreign Policy Course. He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Q Research General #21164: BACK TO ITALY, NOW BIDEN IS TUCKED UP IN BED EDITION
>>16778109
From the Voter-Rejected Wing of the GOP
Report co-author Thomas Griffith, a former federal judge whose enthusiastic support of Ketanji Brown Jackson was singled out by President Biden in his speech when he nominated her to the Supreme Court, told NeverTrump publication The Dispatch: "The idea is that it's written by conservatives, for conservatives. We recognize the people who are watching [Morning Joe and CNN] are probably not the people we're primarily interested in."
Paul Ryan's former chief of staff David Hoppe, another co-author, admitted the group got much support for its project from volunteers at high-powered, inside-the-Beltway law firms. Still, corporate media accepted the group's framing of itself as "conservative." Even a cursory look at the list revealed that to be overly generous if not completely misleading.
Ted Olson served as former President George W. Bush's solicitor general, but he is most well known for being the brains and muscle behind the legal campaign to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples. When President Trump sought to have his help to fight against the Russia collusion hoax that so undermined the country, Olson declined to help. He did go on television to publicly disparage the president after declining his request. Olson even tried to get Mitch McConnell to backtrack on his policy of not holding hearings for Justice Antonin Scalia's replacement until after the 2016 election. Olson is routinely derided by critics as a "conservative attorney for sale," and someone who has "always been a hired gun."
Former federal judge Michael McConnell argued on PBS in support of the second impeachment trial for President Trump.
Former federal judge Michael Luttig is already well known for helping out the Democrats' Ja 6 Committee. He rather famously left the federal bench for Boeing - "taking his toys and going home," as some put it at the time - after President George W. Bush didn't put him on the Supreme Court. The Wall Street Journal noted that his resignation letter pointedly didn't mention the younger Bush.
Luttig also serves on the advisory board of "The Safeguarding Democracy Project," led by Richard Hasen, an election law professor who criticizes voter ID laws. Its mission statement claims Republicans who questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election were acting in bad faith, and that election integrity laws passed after the 2020 election "threaten the cornerstone of American democracy."
Gordon Smith, one of the report's co-authors, wasn't even considered a conservative in the old Republican Party back when he served as a senator from Oregon from 1997-2009. Before he became a high-paid lobbyist for the National Association of Broadcasters, he was assessed the fourth most liberal GOP senator after Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter, who officially joined Democrats in 2009. By 2008, when he was defeated, Smith scored only a 33 out of 100 by the American Conservative Union. Just this year, he declined to endorse a Republican for Oregon's gubernatorial race.
Former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, another co-author, thought the Republican Party was too conservative by 2005, arguing in The New York Times that it had become a party overtaken by conservative Christians. Danforth, an Episcopal priest, was a public supporter of efforts to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples. He has said the worst mistake he ever made was supporting Sen. Josh Hawley's political aspirations.
All of the report's authors are or were Republican, including Hoppe, but they tend to inhabit parts of the old Republican Party that voters are increasingly rejecting, not just for their weak policy proposals but for their habit of cooperating with left-wing media in its unceasing attempts to undermine the new Republican Party's political strengths.

NeverTrump's Latest Attempt…

The Man Who Lost the Decades-Long Battle for Election Integrity
Two days before the razor-thin 2020 presidential election, report co-author Ben Ginsberg, the long-time dean of establishment Republican election lawyers and former counsel to Bush's presidential campaigns and Mitt Romney's presidential campaigns, did one of the most hostile things imaginable to Trump and his voters. He went to The Washington Post to beg Americans to vote for Democrat nominee Joe Biden ("My party is destroying itself on the altar of Trump.") He and other NeverTrumpers represent exceedingly little of the Republican Party outside of the Beltway, but in an election that came down to 43,000 votes across three states, they should get at least some credit - or if you're a Republican voter, blame - for pushing Biden and other Democrats over the finish line and bringing the country to where it is today.
Ginsberg, it turns out, bears more responsibility for how the election turned out than most, and his op-ed explains why.
It wasn't just that Ginsberg used his Republican pedigree in order to elevate his hatred of Trump when Republican campaigns desperately needed unity and strength. By November 2020, such tantrums were common among the Republicans who used to control the party. No, it was that he went on an absolute tirade against election integrity itself, adopting every Democrat Party talking point against Republican efforts to secure the ballot box.
Two days before the 2020 election had even occurred - and long before this report came out last week -his mind was made up. Proof of systemic fraud simply "doesn't exist." He compared concerns about election integrity to a hunt for the "Loch Ness monster."
He praised practices enabling widespread unsupervised voting, including unattended ballot drop boxes, drive-through voting operations, and third-party ballot trafficking. He belittled concerns about even weak and insufficient verification systems, such as signature matches. He said Republican lawyers fighting against such practices were engaging in "voter suppression," a common Democrat talking point.
Months after Ginsberg's 2020 op-ed mocking election concerns, Time magazine itself confirmed what many Republicans suspected: the existence of a "conspiracy" by powerful Democrats to push through these unsupervised voting practices, creating an election system to ensure the outcome they desired. As Time wrote, it was "a well-funded cabal of powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information."
The successful effort to change hundreds of laws and processes across the country to enable tens of millions of unsupervised ballots to flood the system was led by Marc Elias, the same Democrat attorney who had been behind the creation of the Russia collusion hoax, the lie that Trump didn't win in 2016 but stole the election by colluding with Russia….

Obama Campaign Aide To Lobby For Chinese Communist Party-Owned Energy Company.
Jonathan McCollum, a former Obama campaign aide, is registered to lobby the U.S. federal government on behalf of a Chinese Communist Party-owned energy company.
Now the Chair of Federal Government Relations at Davidoff Hutcher & Citron (DHC) LLP, McCollum previously worked on several Democratic party campaigns including former President Barack Obama's 2008 run. His professional bio also reveals he served as a legislative correspondent to anti-Trump Senator Gordon Smith and his former stint at the New Hampshire Democratic Party:
"Working for the New Hampshire Democratic Party, he managed two statewide races, a mayoral race, and over thirty municipal campaigns. His accomplishments in New Hampshire led him to become a Regional Field Director and Political Advisor to the Obama Campaign in 2007. In this role, Mr. McCollum handled media relations, managed staff, coordinated volunteer bases, organized events, and gathered political endorsements. He travelled across the country during the 2008 Presidential Primary and managed five counties for the Obama Campaign in Central and South Florida during the General Election."
Now, McCollum is working on behalf of UNIPEC, a "wholly-owned subsidiary of China International United Petroleum and Chemical Co. Ltd." and "trading arm" of Chinese state-owned SINOPEC, according to Foreign Agent Registration Ac (FARA) filings.
As the May FARA filing notes, 84 percent of UNIPEC'S parent company is "owned by SINOPEC Group, a People's Republic of China state-owned company."
"The period of this agreement shall be for a 12-month term commencing on May 1, 2021 and concluding on April 31, 2022 for a fee of $17,500 per month," the agreement reads.
Among the services McCollum's firm will provide UNIPEC with are arranging meetings with U.S. government officials, including individuals in the Biden White House:
"DHC was retained by UNIPEC America, Inc. for government relations consulting to provide regular updates and insights into policy and regulations related to commodities and trade. As part of the representation, DHC may schedule meetings with Congressional and/or Administration staff if requested by UNIPEC America, Inc. [...] Representation may also include meetings before the United States Congress, Executive Branch and Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government to discuss and understand regulations and policy related to commodities trading."

Pirating Streamed Content to Become Felony
Bill to be included in omnibus part of the COVID-19 relief bill
WASHINGTON-Illegally pirating streaming video could put guilty parties in jail thanks to a new bill. The Protecting Lawful Streaming Act introduced by Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) was included in the omnibus spending bill of the COVID-19 relief bill that was passed by Congress on Dec. 21.
Under Tillis' bill, any person that pirates video streams of copyrighted work will have committed a felony act and be subject to either fines or imprisonment. The previous penalty for pirating streaming content was a misdemeanor.
The bill targets large-scale, criminal, for-profit streaming services, not good faith business disputes or noncommercial activities. Nor does it target individuals who access the pirated streams, knowingly or unknowingly.
Streaming has become increasingly popular in the last few years, particularly in 2020 as the global pandemic has changed viewing habits as people have more time during lockdowns. This new bill brings the pirating of streamed content on the same level of other pirating efforts, including the illegal downloading of copyrighted content.
Co-sponsoring the bill with Tillis is Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.).
NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith issued a statement saying the association strongly supports the passing of the Protecting Lawful Streaming Act and how it is "tailored to deter large-scale copyright piracy while ensuring that legitimate licenses are not subject to potential prosecution."

Just How Bad Is It Going To Get: JPMorgan Halts All Non-Government Guaranteed Small Business Loans
With America's small and medium businesses suffering from cardiac arrest now that the economy is in a indefinite coma, it is hardly a surprise that the largest US bank, JPMorgan Chase has been inundated with more than 375,000 requests for $40bn of loans under the $350bn small business rescue scheme, a higher number of applications than any other bank, its consumer head Gordon Smith told President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
It is in this context that the FT reports that Chase has temporarily stopped accepting applications for small business loans outside the government's Paycheck Protection Program. A Chase spokeswoman told the FT that the bank was now devoting all of its small business underwriting resources to processing these applications and had "temporarily suspended" taking other applications from small businesses. The bank was continuing to process non-PPP applications already in train, she said, and would revisit the issue of new applications next week.
This means that any small business that have borrowing needs beyond the PPP's limits, or if they want to borrow for purposes beyond wage bills, they would need to seek other facilities or other lenders.
Ok fine, JPM is so busy trying to bail out mom and pop shops, it doesn't have time to deal with anyone else. Why is that a story? Here's why.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon undergoes emergency heart surgery
NEW YORK (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) Chief Executive Jamie Dimon had emergency heart surgery to treat an aortic dissection on Thursday morning and is "recovering well," the bank said on Thursday.
The bank announced the surgery by publicly releasing an internal memo sent to all JPMorgan employees.
The memo, signed by bank co-Presidents Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith, said Dimon had experienced "an acute aortic dissection this morning. He underwent successful emergency heart surgery to repair the dissection. The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful."
Dimon is "awake, alert and recovering well," the memo said.
The 63-year-old banker, who has been CEO of JPMorgan for over a decade, is a larger-than-life figure on Wall Street. He previously battled throat cancer after a diagnosis in 2014.
JPMorgan's board of directors asked Pinto and Smith, who are also co-chief operating officers, to run the bank while Dimon recuperates.
The condition for which Dimon had surgery involves a tear to the inner layer of the aorta, according to the Mayo Clinic's website. It can be fatal if the rupture stems through the outside aortic wall.

"Project Kennedy": JPMorgan Tells Thousands Of Workers To Work From Home
America's largest bank is going on lockdown.
According to Bloomberg, JPMorgan is asking thousands of US-based employees to work from home in test of "virus contingency plan" for closing domestic offices should the coronavirus spread. As part of the test, managers have requested that about 10% of staff across its consumer bank work remotely as part of the plan's resiliency testing, which has been code-named "Project Kennedy" (it wasn't clear why JPM picked that name for the project). And since JPMorgan's consumer bank has 127,137 employees, the most of any of the firm's divisions, that means that over 12,000 workers will be working from home for the foreseeable future.
As the coronavirus spreads, banks around the world have been scrambling ensure they can keep their businesses running and avoid a worst-case scenario by restricting travel, splitting up teams and traders amid different locations, and quarantining staff. As Bloomberg notes, some are also "dusting off regulatory plans for keeping "critical operations" open through a potential pandemic, some of which describe things like how far apart traders should sit from each other, or how many can work remotely."
The key test for JPM's will assess its telecommuting policy on a sampling of employees across businesses to ensure kinks are worked out before the plan needs to be rolled out more broadly in the event of a pandemic, one of the people said.
In other words, JPMorgan thinks it's just a matter of time before it gets… worse.
It wasnt exactly clear how JPM's client-facing bank tellers will do their job by teleconference. While technology has made it possible for more professionals to do their jobs remotely, working from home generally isn't an option for branch workers like tellers and bankers who deal directly with customers. JPMorgan had 4,976 branches around the country as of the end of December that are filled with thousands of employees who have to show up to work for business to run.
JPMorgan's leaders have been double-checking contingency plans to be sure the firm can continue to serve customers in the event of widespread disruptions. The moves are part of broader resiliency planning at the bank. The firm last week followed the lead of major US corporations in restrictring non-essential international travel for all employees and has been urging workers to test their remote-access capabilities. JPMorgan has also been testing systems at backup trading sites over the past few days in case workers need to be moved off of the main trading floors in New York and London.
There is a silver lining: with hand sanitizer sold out virtually everywhere, the bank is providing that precious commodity - extra hand sanitizer - to customer-facing branch workers and taking extra steps to sanitize offices, branches and equipment, including elevator call buttons and door handles, according to a memo from Co-President Gordon Smith to consumer bank staff on Friday.
And just to nip any potentially viral problems at the bud, JPMorgan has been encouraging consumers to access bank services and products through digital channels instead of walking into branches when they can.
"This can make their life easier all the time," Smith wrote.

JPMorgan Plans To Cut Hundreds of Jobs Across Consumer Division
JPMorgan Chase & Co. plans to dismiss several hundred workers from its consumer unit as the lender seeks to rein in costs, according to people briefed on the matter.
The bank intends to notify affected employees on Feb. 6 and cuts will be scattered across the division, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. The consumer unit, which houses the deposit, credit-card, home and auto lending businesses, contributes nearly half of the firm's revenue.
Banks around the world have cut thousands of jobs as they slash costs to weather a slowing economy and adapt to shifts in consumer behavior and in digital technology. At JPMorgan, the cuts are part of a broader review of operations as customers increasingly access banking services through mobile phones or digital platforms.
A JPMorgan spokeswoman declined to comment. The planned cuts represent about 1% of employees in the unit and workers will be given the chance to apply for other roles in the firm, another person said.
Under co-President Gordon Smith, who leads the consumer bank, expense management has been an area of intense focus. JPMorgan cut around 7,000 operations jobs from the unit in the four years through 2018, and the bank said in February that reductions would continue. Overall headcount in the unit fell 2% to 127,137 at the end of last year, the lowest since 2015, according to the bank's latest quarterly report.
The New York-based firm has poured billions of dollars into technology to make it easier for customers to access services without the help of traditional workers. More than 80% of transactions in the consumer bank were completed through so-called "self-service" channels in 2018, according to the February presentation.
At the same time, it's been opening up hundreds of branches in new states to attract customers and boost lending – even as its total branch count has slipped. The count fell below 5,000 last year for the first time since before JPMorgan took over Washington Mutual Inc.'s banking operations during the height of the financial crisis.

The top Russia adviser at the White House, Andrew Peek, is now on administrative leave, CBS News has confirmed.
Bloomberg and Axios first reported Peek's removal from the White House National Security Council.
Two sources confirmed to CBS News that allegations involving Peek were under investigation before he was detailed to the White House in November.
The National Security Council declined to comment, as did the State Department. CBS News attempted to reach Peek at his NSC email, but the email bounced back.

JPMorgan's deposit growth slowing as customers seek higher yield
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Deposit growth at JPMorgan Chase & Co, the largest U.S. bank by assets, is slowing as customers withdraw some of their money and stash it with competing banks that pay higher interest rates, a bank executive said Thursday.
Most big U.S. banks have been slow to raise the interest rates they pay customers on their savings and deposits, despite the U.S. Federal Reserve setting current rates at between 2.25% and 2.5%.
This has left an opening for some smaller and online-only banks that are trying to capitalize on customer frustration by offering savings accounts and other products that pay between 2% and 2.45% interest.
Gordon Smith, co-president and chief operating officer for JPMorgan Chase, said that though customers are taking out money, and this is contributing to slowing in the bank's deposit growth, most of those customers still keep Chase as their main bank.
"People are taking a component of their deposits. They're parking those deposits with a high-yield competitor, whomever they may be," said Smith, also head of JPMorgan's consumer and community banking.
"That money is very liquid," said Smith. "It'll then move from that high-yield competitor to another … but that high-yield competitor is not winning the primary bank relationship, which is obviously what's critical."
Smith said the bank constantly reviews its deposit pricing and that interest rates are only part of what customers want from the bank.

First, the provision sought to eviscerate recent SupremeCourt decisions3 granting the detainees a right to have their habeasclaims heard in the District Court of the District of Columbia.4Senator Specter feared that the removal of habeas corpus jurisdic-tion over these cases would "set back basic rights by some 900years."5Second, and more fundamentally, Senator Specter believedthat this section of the legislation ran contrary to the plain text ofthe Constitution.6 Under Article One, Section 9 of the Constitu-tion, Congress may only suspend the writ of habeas corpus in timesof "rebellion or invasion";7 it was clear to Senator Specter thatAmerica was experiencing neither. In an impassioned speechbefore the National Press Club prior to the vote, Senator Spectervowed not to "support a bill that's blatantly unconstitutional,"8 and introduced an amendment that would have excised from the pro-posed legislation the section purportedly stripping the courts ofhabeas corpus jurisdiction.9 His proposed amendment failed by arazor-thin margin, 51 to 48,10 and the provision that he had a dayearlier lambasted as unconstitutional remained part of the bill.11And yet, incredibly, he voted in favor of the bill.
Nor was Senator Specter the only one to make such a choice. The same habeas-stripping provision gave Senator Gordon Smith(R-OR) "pause."12 According to Senator Smith, denying detaineeshabeas corpus rights amounted to a "frontal attack on our judiciaryand its institutions, as well as our civil rights laws" that threatenedto destroy a "cornerstone of our constitutional order."13 Yet, de-spite these grave reservations as to its constitutionality, SenatorSmith voted in favor of the MCA as well.14On the House floor, a third member of Congress, Representa-tive Robert Andrews (D-NJ), expressed "severe reservations" withrespect to the MCA.15 He found the habeas-stripping provision tobe constitutionally "ambiguous," and, to boot, "not very wise."16He knew that the bill would require modifications in the Senate orin the Conference Committee to cure its glaring constitutional de-fects. Yet, to "move it forward,"17 he punched "yes" from his Houseseat and voted for the bill as well.18The vote of each of these politicians in support of a bill hebelieved to be unconstitutional constitutes a dereliction of hissworn duty to support and defend the Constitution. U.S. Senatorsand Representatives are bound by the Constitution not to vote forlaws they believe to be unconstitutional. This Article examines theorigins of this voting obligation, and how a shift from a traditionalMadison-Jackson model of coordinate construction has fueled themisperception in the minds of legislators that the role of the judici-ary is to "clean up" whatever unconstitutional laws Congress maypass. This Article explores the punitive consequences for Senatorsand Representatives who vote for legislation they believe to be un-constitutional; the obligations of the President with respect to such
legislation; and how the taint of improper voting should influencea court examining the constitutionality of this bill and otherspassed under similar circumstances.
