Police Suicide in France: the whistle was blown, but the Macron regime pretends to be deaf
I think by now most people who are interested in geopolitics are familiar with the "Yellow Vests" movement and the social unrest in France, but one topic that receives almost no mainstream media coverage (neither in the Anglophone nor French press), and which the French government deliberately ignores, is police suicide. At the time of writing - July 25th - there have been 66 police suicides in France so far in 2019. According to the President of the association "Uniformes en danger" Christelle Teixeira, 88 police officers killed themselves in 2018. At the current rate in 2019 it means that every four days a police officer kills themselves. This epidemic of suicides in the ranks of law enforcement is becoming an endemic problem that some people sometimes like to compare to the suicidal tendencies of French farmers, who have also been hit hard by socio-economic distress and drought.
Thus, according to a Senate report from June 2018, the rate of suicide in the French police is 36% higher than what is seen in the general population. Concerning farmers, the same rate was 20% to 30% higher than the average for the French population, according to a study published by the "Public Health of France" agency in 2016. It is a similar trend, but with a big difference concerning police officers and gendarmes: they all have the same employer - the state; and the same boss, the Interior Minister Christophe Castaner. The plans that were launched in the past to try to solve the problem, especially in May 2018 under the leadership of Gerard Collomb, are considered to be too weak by some police officers, who cite the daily grind and the "social context that is currently tense in many socio-professional categories", as Jean-Pierre Colombies explains.
"Christophe Castaner refused a hearing at the association 'Angry Law Enforcement Wives' on this topic in November 2018, which is quite evocative, but in any case, one finds oneself in such a context of social tension that one can hardly imagine fundamental work in our rigid administration. Meanwhile, in the police stations, it must be made clear that officials do not know how much they can trust their minister. These are the kind of ideas that come to us from the ground."
"Concerning police suicides, the situation is catastrophic. A death every four days is unheard of, practically. It is unbearable for us to see this phenomenon boiled down to 'personal problems'. When the Director of Public Order and Traffic, Alain Gibelin, resigned after a big burnout, we were told that it was the workload that caused his illness, but when it is a cop from the very beginning, we are told that it is the personal context that leads to suicide ... It is therefore clear that the assessment of occupational pressure is variable depending on the department."
Jean-Pierre Colombies proposed an idea that even he considers to be "utopian":
"We should rethink the relationship between police and society, as well as the relationship between the administration and its police officers. Sometimes it works and there are some great service managers, I've known some, but you have to admit that some are real problems, very destructive people that make dialogue between the police and their administration often broken. In these cases, when occupational pressure adds to personal problems, some crack. That's what we showed in our film".
On March 12th several police associations held a night gathering at Trocadero for the purpose of raising awareness of this cause. Despite the presence of some media, including RT France, two minority unions (VIGI and France Police), and two political figures (Senator François Grosdidier and the deputy Nicolas Dupont-Aignan), the government has not reacted to this new invitation for dialogue.

Q Research General #4396: Big Crowds For A Big Night Edition
Macron popularity plummets at home as he pushes globalism on world stage
French President Emmanuel Macron has presented himself as the international leader defending multilateralism and globalism against the rising forces of nationalism – but at home he is facing a bleaker political outlook and plummeting poll numbers.
The dashing Frenchmen ran for the presidency in 2017 on a platform of pragmatic centrism, mixed with a dash of globalism amid a wave of nationalism sweeping through the continent. His comfortable victory over the nationalist Marine Le Pen was greeted with relief and joy by those concerned by the populist wave.
He was soon hailed as an unofficial leader of Europe, and even the world. As recently as April, Politico called him the "new leader of the free world." Macron appeared to embrace that mantle as he came to the U.S. and made a fiery speech to Congress warning against nationalism and calling for an embrace of multilateralism and international cooperation.
"We will not let the rampaging work of extreme nationalism shake a world full of hopes for greater prosperity," he told Congress.
Last month, he was at the United Nations General Assembly, castigating the same nationalist forces – which was widely seen as a swipe at President Trump as he slammed a unilateralist approach that entails "a certain lawlessness where everyone pursues their own interests."
"I will never stop upholding the principle of sovereignty even in the face of a certain nationalism, which we're seeing today, brandishing sovereignty as a way of attacking others," he said just hours after Trump addressed the assembly.
But back home things look extremely shaky. His approval ratings have dived as low as 29 percent. Last month he was dealt a further blow when Gerard Collomb, the interior minister, resigned after having attacked Macron's government for a "lack of humility."
Some of Macron's unpopularity can be put down to his larger reputation as a narcissist obsessed with power and image. A number of politically awkward viral moments – including him recently lecturing an out-of-work gardener to look harder for a job – have hardened that image
"Less than 30 percent, according to the most recent polls, have a favorable opinion of him and half of the those who disapprove of him are very disapproving," Ezra Suleiman, professor of politics at Princeton University, told Fox News. "Those who have soured on him find him arrogant, didactic and not concerned with their problems."
He has also faced difficulty in walking a fine line on immigration, trying to solve a continuing European migration crisis without alienating left-wing support for his broader agenda. France's parliament approved a bill in August that increases the time migrants can be detained, and also shortened application deadlines for asylum claims. It was opposed by some left-wing lawmakers, who decried it as inhumane while some on the right said it did not go far enough to deal with the migration crisis.
France's left-wing has also been enraged by Macron's tougher stance on labor unions, who he has sought to rein in as part of his efforts to boost the lagging French economy. He recently announced that the next budget will include a new tax cut, which Politico reported will be worth as much as ?26 billion ($30 billion) for workers and employers, as part of an effort to boost those approval numbers and the economy.
"The left views him as too close to big business interests in France at the expense of ordinary French workers. On the right, he is a globalist politician who does little to defend France's borders, French interests and is seen as as somebody who doesn't understand concerns of the French people at a time of tremendous change and upheaval," Nile Gardiner, director of the Heritage Foundation's Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, told Fox News.
Gardiner also said that Macron's projection of himself as the leader of the free world was "ludicrous" when contrasted with his own unpopularity at home.
"This is a president who cannot lead his own people let alone lead the globe. Macron is somebody who delivers big soaring speeches on the world stage without any foundation domestically. The reality is that France continues to be a country in decline and Macron is a symbol of that decline," he said.

Q Research General #4308 Getting HOT Over at GOOG Edition
For all the discussion about Donald Trump's (dis)approval rating, the western media has been surprisingly quiet over the collapse in popularity of Europe's golden boy, French president Emmanuel Macron who last year triumphantly defeated nationalist Marine Le Pen with 66.1% of the vote as the youngest French president, and was repeatedly cited as Europe's "liberal ideal" heir to Angela Merkel.
Fast forward one year, when things haven't quite panned out as expected for the former Rothschild banker.
At the end of September, Macron has been hit with his lowest ever approval rating as his popularity continues to tumble with only 29% of French citizens saying they were satisfied with Mr Macron, according to a new Ifop poll - the lowest figure recorded by the firm during his presidency. The leader's rating has fallen from 34% in August and 39% in July.
Macron's fall from grace follows a series of high-profile departures from his government and a summer scandal over the firing of his bodyguard; the president was also heavily criticized in September week for telling an unemployed man he could easily get a job simply by "crossing the street".
While the former investment banker pledged to modernize the French economy, many voters have complained that Macron is arrogant, out of touch, that his labor reforms have benefited only the country's largest businesses and have grown impatient with the sluggish pace of economic growth and job creation.
And now, amid a plunge in approval, Macron will be force to undergo his first major restructuring of his cabinet just days after the resignation of his interior minister, as allies press for a broad rejig to draw a line under a tumultuous few months.
According to the French media, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe will submit his government's resignation to Macron as early as today. Macron would then ask Philippe to form a new government, on which parliament, dominated by Macron's ruling party, would hold a vote of confidence according to Reuters.
Macron and Philippe were due to have lunch together on Monday, a weekly event, after being in "close contact" over the weekend, according to a source in the prime minister's office. Officials neither confirmed nor denied that a wide reshuffle was on the cards. A presidency source said nothing was finalized and the reshuffle was still being worked on.
"We need to remain true to our initial project, but we need a breath of fresh air," said Richard Ferrand, speaker of the National Assembly and close ally of Macron told the Journal du Dimanche, realizing that absent major changes to the cabinet, Macron's popularity may soon rival that of his predecessor, socialist Francois Hollande.
As previously noted, the straw that broke the camel's back was the departure of Gerard Collomb against Macron's wishes; it exposed chinks in the armor of a president who has sought to lead with a tight grip on decision-making but who lacks political experience, having never previously held elected office. Particularly damaging to Macron were Collomb's criticisms that the president displayed a "lack of humility" and that there were few around him who would speak their mind frankly.
Collomb was the third minister to resign in five weeks, raising questions over the durability of the government, after the resignations of the popular ecology minister Nicolas Hulot and sports minister Laura Flessel.
Hulot, a popular former activist and TV presenter, complained about his disappointment in the government's lack of ambition on climate issues. Meanwhile, sports minister Laura Flessel said she decided to leave for reasons linked to her "fiscal situation" as she had allegedly underreported her earnings.

Macron on the BRINK:
Shock resignations and 'chaos' could force Macron into 'PHASE TWO'
The shock resignation of Mr Collomb, Mr Macron's most senior cabinet member, poses a fresh dilemma for the Frenchman - whether to replace him or use it as an opportunity to reshuffle his team.
The resignation itself was not entirely shocking, but it was the way it was handled and the subsequent mockery of Mr Macron's leadership style that gave the French President yet another problematic month.

Rapper calls for whites to be hanged, white babies to be killed in video yanked from YouTube
French rapper Nick Conrad is under fire for a controversial music video in which he called for the hanging of white people and the death of white babies.
The video, which was shared on YouTube, was promptly pulled from the video streaming site after outcry for violating its policies on hate speech.
What's in the video?
Conrad's video was titled, "Pendez les Blancs," which translates to "Hang the Whites," was uploaded on Sept. 17 and was reportedly filmed in a Paris suburb.
YouTube removed the content on Wednesday.
In the lyrics, Conrad raps, "I go to nurseries and kill white babies/ catch them quickly and hang their parents/ tear them up to entertain black kids of all ages big and small/ whip them hard/ frankly, it stinks of death as blood is gushing."
In the video, Conrad pretends to torture, shoot, and hang a white man, and contains references speeches by Malcolm X.
Conrad shared the video on his Twitter page on Tuesday, which he called a "short film."
At the time of this writing, Conrad's Facebook page appears to have been deactivated.
What has happened in response to the video?
According to the BBC, the Paris prosecutors' office has reportedly opened an inquiry into the video.
France's Interior Minister Gerard Collomb shared his objection to the video and the song on Twitter on Wednesday.
Collomb wrote, "I condemn unreservedly these abject remarks and ignominious attacks. My services work for the immediate withdrawal of the content broadcast. It will be up to the judicial authority to give appropriate follow-up to these hateful appeals to hatred."
In response to the outcry, the rapper spoke to Le Parisienne, where he said that the video is "fiction," and that he simply wanted to "reverse the roles of the white man and the black man."
"This was primarily intended to trace the history of the black people," he said. "This piece is a mirror, a response to the injustices experienced by my community since slavery. I was inspired by my personal experience and what I observe in my daily life as an artist."
"I have the impression that the black man must always make more efforts to integrate and get into the mold that society wants to impose on him: at school, in the street, during a job interview," he explained. "In my clip, which is only fiction, I wanted to reverse the roles of the white man and the black man. And propose a different perception of slavery."

Professor on French Interior Minister Resignation: 'It's Perfectly Logical'
French President Emmanuel Macron has suffered a blow to his presidency with the announcement that his interior minister, Gerard Collomb, will resign next year. Sputnik spoke to Professor Paul Smith of the University of Nottingham to get his take on this string of resignations in French government, and how it has affected Macron's popularity.
Sputnik: Why have we seen three of Macron's ministers resigning in the space of a month?
Dr Paul Smith: I think it's very odd; even the French media have caught this kind of 'flu' as it were, that everything that goes wrong is clearly a weakness in Macron and the system. For me, it's perfectly logical that someone like Collomb would do that - it's a staged withdrawal from cabinet, he's not resigned over a key issue, he's announced that he will be standing down. We're going to see a number of key figures among Macron supporters leading the electoral fight in municipal elections - in Paris, in Bordeaux, in Marseille. In all of these cities Macron needs his heavyweights to be deployed and because Collomb is well established in Lyon - he used to be Mayor for the city but also senator for the department - he has the contacts and he has the reputation. So I think there's a kind of blindness in the media to see any kind of weakness. I see it as a very canny strategy.
Sputnik: However, it's also true that Donald Trump's poll ratings are better than Macron's - a Kantar Sofres Onepoint poll published on Monday found only 19% of French people had a positive view of Macron, 60% expressed a negative opinion - quite a drop since his time of election; what do you think the main reason for this is?
Dr Paul Smith: I think the problem for Macron is that as yet nobody is really seeing any kinds of benefits from the reforms he has introduced. But he is developing... The political system is much more... There is a much more vigorous opposition - there's a lot of opposition to Donald Trump but it's not organized - there's a much more vigorous opposition in terms of trade unions and political parties. Not that that opposition is particularly unified in France but there are a lot of different places where people can express their opposition and so that's filtering through. So I think the problem is a year and a half into quite a significant reform program, and it's yet to yield the returns. I think also you can't get away from the fact that Macron comes out with statements sometimes and you really wonder what he was thinking when he said it. Sputnik: To what extent do you think the Benalla scandal has affected him and will continue to affect the President's popularity?
Dr Paul Smith: I think it has affected him. Benalla himself has turned out to be something of a slippery character in the sense that today, in his hearing before the Senate commission, he was full of contrition and full of careful explanations and so forth and in previous interviews he's been much more aggressive and much more forthright. I think people are trying to get their heads around exactly who this person is. I think it did Macron harm back in the spring and the summer. I think now the French public are beginning to get a bit frustrated by what's going on. But the questions that are being asked of him by the Senate commission are still pertinent questions; and the affair will drag on.

PARIS
France's interior minister says authorities have thwarted a possible attack using ricin or explosives and arrested two brothers.
Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told BFM television Friday that authorities were tracking extremist activity on social networks and identified two young men "preparing to commit an attack with explosives or ricin."
He said the young men were of Egyptian origin but didn't indicate their nationality or provide other details about where or when they were arrested. He said the men notably had tutorials on how to make poison using ricin.
