Why Did Slotkin File for Divorce in D.C.? Because She Lives There
Mike Rogers may be a classic snowbird, but Elissa Slotkin has never had a stable Michigan address as an adult
By Jay Murray ? October 24, 2024
Elissa Slotkin is struggling down the home stretch, especially with her subpar debate appearances, so the media have been rolling out a new round of attack ads and op-eds targeting Mike Rogers, her opponent for Michigan's junior senate seat, and his status as a Michigan resident.
This is laughable, given that the 61-year-old Rogers was born in Livonia, raised in Redford, graduated from Adrian College, and spent the bulk of his adult life living in Michigan, serving in the Michigan Legislature and in Congress. Sure, Rogers owns a home in Florida and spends time in the Sunshine State, but so do many boomer-aged Michigan residents. So that makes Roger's what? A typical Michigan resident of a certain age? What a scandal.
Meanwhile, Slotkin gets a free pass.
So, I took a deep dive into her Michigan credentials. My previous reporting has already covered her bizarre address change in 2022 to a home in Lansing, owned by prominent lobbyist Jerry Hollister, as a means to run for the redrawn 7th Congressional District. She leased the home for only the duration of her winning campaign, and there is no evidence she ever even slept there.
Prior to that address change, her legal residencesince 2017 had been her father's farm in Holly; however, she had no legal connection to the farm other than a "doing business as," registered under the name Pinpoint Consulting, which, according to records through the State of Michigan LARA business database, was never in good standing, with no income or revenue.
In layman's terms, this means Slotkin filed incorporation papers in Lansing for a business, with herself listed as the resident agent and the business address listed in Michigan, for the sole reason of claiming to be a Michigan small business owner; however, she had no intention of ever operating this company, as evidenced by the lack of disclosures or reported revenue. It was, in effect, a shell company created for political purposes.
Very strange. A Michigan congresswoman from a very affluent family, owning no home and leasing mailing addresses in districts for election purposes, and with virtually no history of even residing in the state at all.
It strains credulity to believe that a middle-aged, successful woman who has worked in government for more than two decades has been living out of a suitcase for all these years, hopping around and using her dad's or a lobbyist's address. She owns a home somewhere, right?
Oh, she does. She's got digs in one of the most expensive and affluent areas of the nation. Since 2007, Slotkin has been the sole owner of a two-story home in Washington, D.C., within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol.
This makes sense, given that Slotkin worked for the CIA and then the Pentagon until 2017, but it does reveal an uncomfortable truth. Slotkin is the very definition of a carpetbagger. She's not a wheels-up congresswoman who returns to home over the weekend and when Congress is out of session for the summer; she's been a year-round D.C. resident for 17 years.
Slotkin, anticipating this could potentially be a problem for her, got clever in May 2023 and convinced her father to quit-claim deed his farm to her (tax-free, no less). Only her name appears on the deed, given that she filed for and received an uncontested divorce from her husband-David Moore, a former Army Colonel whom she wed in September 2010-in March 2023.
Typically, when Michigan residents divorce, they file in the counties where they reside, own assets, where they may have legal rights to children for the purposes of mediation, family-court concerns, and property division.
Slotkin has no divorce records on file anywhere in the State of Michigan. In fact, her divorce complaint was filed in Superior Court of the District of Columbia Family Court - Domestic Relations Branch.
The reason she filed for divorce in Washington D.C. is simple: That's where she lives.

Federal judge rules Kim Davis violated couples' constitutional rights; will go to trial over damages
The former Rowan County Clerk spent time in jail for contempt of court for refusing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
ASHLAND, Ky. (WKYT) - A federal judge has ruled that former Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis violated the constitutional rights of two same-sex couples when she denied them marriage licenses during the summer of 2015.
In an order published Friday afternoon, United States District Judge David L. Bunning of the Eastern District of Kentucky granted summary judgment in a civil lawsuit that the two couples, David Ermold and David Moore, and James Yates and Will Smith, filed against Davis.
(Read the full court order below)
That settles - without a trial - the question of whether Davis violated their constitutional rights, but no decision has been made yet on whether Davis will be on the hook for the likely hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees accrued over the six-and-a-half years of litigation.
Bunning denied Davis's request for summary judgment on the question of damages, meaning that decision will still go to trial and ultimately be left up to a jury. The plaintiffs are asking for compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and attorneys' fees.
"The plaintiffs could not be more happy," Michael Gartland, an attorney for the plaintiffs, told WKYT's Garrett Wymer. "As the court notes in the decision, this case has been pending since 2015. They couldn't be more happy that they're finally going to get their day in court and they're confident justice will be served."
In a news release, Liberty Counsel, the organization who represented Davis, noted that the case could go back to the Supreme Court over religious freedom concerns.
"Kim Davis is entitled to protection to an accommodation based on her sincere religious belief," Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said in the release. "This case raises serious First Amendment free exercise of religion claims and has a high potential of reaching the Supreme Court." (Read Liberty Counsel's full response here.)
A status conference is scheduled to be held by telephone on April 1. A trial date will likely be set then.
Davis's actions during the summer of 2015 turned Morehead into an epicenter of the battle over gay rights following the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which recognized a constitutional right for same-sex couples to marry.
Davis said she acted "under God's authority" when she, as the order summarizes, "famously refused to comply with Obergefell, which required her to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples."
David Ermold and David Moore were denied marriage licenses three times, and James Yates and Will Smith were denied licenses four times, before the two couples were granted marriage licenses by a deputy clerk while Davis spent five days in jail for contempt of court.
The two couples sued Davis, saying her actions caused "mental anguish, emotional distress, humiliation and reputation damages."
The case has gone through several setbacks, appeals and delays over the course of the past six-and-a-half years.
Davis was previously found to have sovereign immunity in her professional capacity as county clerk, but did not have protection from civil liability in her personal capacity. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear her appeal on that issue.
Davis had previously asked state lawmakers for an accommodation for her religious beliefs so that she would not have to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, but she did not receive one. The state later removed the clerk's signature from marriage licenses.
Davis lost her bid for re-election in 2018.

Chicago City Council Approves $51 Million in Aid for Illegals
While Chicago burns with rampant crime and violence, on Wednesday, the City Council approved $51 million in aid for illegals. The funds will cover for staffing, food and other resources. The vote passed with 34 voting yes and 13 voting no.
While the Council ultimately approved the expenditure, it was not without controversy. Chicagoans are increasingly outraged by how the city is handling the crisis brought on by Joe Biden's broken border policy.
Ald. David Moore of the 17th Ward voted to reject the funding saying, "If there's enough to go around, then let's pass an ordinance where we see the 'enough." Moore argued for spending money on Chicago residents like those in his district which is an underserved, majority-Black ward.
WBEZ reports:
The city has warned it's out of money and space to aid the roughly 10,000 asylum-seekers who have arrived in the city since last August. Over 4,400 are currently living in 11 temporary city-run shelters and respite centers that include former hotels and park field houses, with 610 awaiting housing in police station lobbies, according to a city spokesman.
The funding comes from a 2021 budget surplus that was set aside for "unanticipated emergencies," according to the city's budget office. But it's only a stopgap. City officials previously warned the $51 million will only be enough to last through the end of June, and the city has received just a small fraction of the tens of millions in state and federal funding it's requested.
"We're going to continue to have these discussions, because these buses ain't stopping," Ald. Gilbert Villegas, 36th Ward, said, referring to the buses of asylum-seekers Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has sent to the city.
The $51 million approved on Wednesday is in addition to the Illinois state budget that was passed last week that included $42.5 million targeted for illegals for shelter, legal representation and translation services.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker still needs to sign the state budget.

Former Maritime Museum employee sentenced for possessing hundreds of child-porn images

North Carolina
BEAUFORT - A former N.C. Maritime Museum employee was recently sentenced to five to seven years in prison after an unrelated investigation revealed more than 300 images of child sex abuse.
David Moore, 67, of Marshallberg pleaded guilty last week to sixteen counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the District Attorney's office.
In addition to his sentence, Moore will also undergo five years of post-release supervision and will be required to register with the N.C. Sex Offender Registry for 30 years.
The images were discovered by chance during an investigation of a laptop that was issued to Moore while employed at the museum.
>According to the N.C. General Court of Justice, a representative from the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources found an image of suspected child pornography on Moore's work laptop while preparing for litigation related to Blackbeard's flagship Queen Anne's Revenge.
Further examination conducted by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation resulted in the discovery of 29 images of child-sex abuse material on his laptop.
Investigators also found 284 additional images on Moore's personal devices, along with numerous inquiries for child pornography in his devices' search history.
During his time at the N.C. Maritime Museum, Moore was a nautical archaeology curator and was considered the project expert on Blackbeard the pirate.
>In addition to appearing in several documentaries about the subject, Moore was also responsible for the majority of underwater mapping on the Queen Anne's Revenge and the exploration of several other notable shipwrecks.

"Two Florida Teachers Arrested After Drinking, Entering Wrong Home And Shooting Man"
"Two Florida teachers have been arrested after a night of drinking led them into the wrong apartment and ultimately shots were fired at the resident, who was hit twice with gunfire.
According to deputies, the shooting happened at the Preserves of Oslo located in 2300 block 10th Rd. SW, Vero Beach.
On October 10th, Darius Cohen and Akkua Hallback, who are both elementary school physical education teachers, entered the wrong apartment.
Hallback mistakenly climbed into bed with the man, his wife, and their baby, and the other teacher went to the bathroom before the male occupant of the house escorted them out.
The teachers both believed they had entered the apartment of one of their friends.
Cohen then fired four shots at the man, striking him twice in the back. Investigators say the man's injuries are not life-threatening.
Both teachers have been fired from their jobs at Sebastian Elementary School and Indian River Academy.
"I immediately exercised my authority to terminate them last week," David Moore, the school district superintendent, told the television station WPBF.
Cohen admitted to detectives that he fired the shots, the arrest affidavit said. Cohen, 26, is facing a charge of attempted felony murder.
Hallback, 27, is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Court records showed no attorney listed for him.
Detectives say the two teachers were roommates."

1790: A "Strabane" township location between "Hunter's and Getty's towns" was planned to become the Adams county seat. One year later "Revd. Alexander Dobbin and David Moore Sr. were appointed trustees for the county of Adams to erect public buildings in...Gettysburg."[8]
1858: The Gettysburg Railroad completed construction of a railroad line from Gettysburg to Hanover and the Gettysburg Railroad Station opened a year later. Passenger train service to the town ended in 1942. The station was restored in 2006. In 2011, Senator Robert Casey introduced S. 1897, which would include the railroad station within the boundary of Gettysburg National Military Park.[9]

Pindar
The most important military citadel in central London is Pindar, or the Defence Crisis Management Centre. The bunker is deep beneath the Ministry of Defence on Whitehall. Construction took ten years and cost £126.3 million. Pindar became operational in 1992, two years before construction was complete. Computer equipment was much more expensive to install than originally estimated as there was very little physical access to the site.
Pindar's main function is to be a crisis management and communications centre, principally between the MOD headquarters and the actual centre of military operations, the Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood. It is reported to be connected to Downing Street and the Cabinet Office by a tunnel under Whitehall. Despite rumours, Armed Forces Minister Jeremy Hanley told the House of Commons on 29 April 1994 that "the facility is not connected to any transport system."
Although the facility is not open to the public, it has had some public exposure. In the 2003 BBC documentary on the Iraq conflict, Fighting the War, BBC cameras were allowed into the facility to film a small part of a teleconference between ministers and military commanders. Also, in 2008 the British photographer David Moore published his series of photographs, The Last Things, widely believed to be an extensive photographic survey of Pindar. Photographs taken of the facility in 2008 show that it has stores including toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwashes. It has bunks for up to 100 military officers, politicians and civilians as well as communication facilities, a medical centre and maps.

Also, in 2008 the British photographer David Moore published his series of photographs, The Last Things, widely believed to be an extensive photographic survey of Pindar.[6] Photographs taken of the facility in 2008 show that it has stores including toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwashes. It has bunks for up to 100 military officers, politicians and civilians as well as communication facilities, a medical centre and maps.[7]
The name Pindar is taken from the ancient Greek poet, whose house alone was left standing after Thebes was razed in 335 BCE.[7]
Admiralty Citadel
The Admiralty Citadel in 2008
The Admiralty Citadel, London's most visible military citadel, is located just behind the Admiralty building on Horse Guards Parade. It was constructed in 1940-1941 as a bomb-proof operations centre for the Admiralty, with foundations 30 ft (9.1 m) deep and a 20-foot (6.1 m) thick concrete roof. It is also linked by tunnels to government buildings in Whitehall.[8]
Cabinet War Rooms
The only central London citadel currently open to the public is the Cabinet War Rooms, located in Horse Guards Road in the basement of what is now HM Treasury. This was not a purpose-built citadel but was instead a reinforced adaptation of an existing basement built many years before.
Q-Whitehall
Q-Whitehall is the name given to a communications facility under Whitehall.
The facility was built in a 12 ft (3.7 m) diameter tunnel during World War II, and extends under Whitehall. A similar facility was constructed in a tunnel that ran parallel to the Aldwych branch of the Piccadilly Line and was known as Trunks Kingsway. The project was known as 'Post Office scheme 2845'.[9] A detailed description, with photographs, was published just after the war in the January 1946 edition of The Post Office Electrical Engineers' Journal.
Sites equipped with unusual amounts of GPO/BT telecommunications plant are given a BT site engineering code. This site's code was L/QWHI.
The site provided protected accommodation for the lines and terminal equipment serving the most important government departments, civil and military, to ensure the command and control of the war could continue despite heavy bombing of London.
At the northern end, a tunnel connects to a shaft up to the former Trafalgar Square tube station (now merged with Charing Cross station), and to the BT deep level cable tunnels which were built under much of London during the Cold War. At the southern end, an 8 ft (2.4 m) diameter extension (Scheme 2845A) connects to a shaft under Court 6 of the Treasury Building: this provided the protected route from the Cabinet War Room. This was known as Y-Whitehall. The 8 ft (2.4 m) tunnel was further extended (Scheme 2845B) to the Marsham Street Rotundas. This extension housed the 'Federal' telephone exchange which had a dialling code of 333 from the public network. In the 1980s it housed Horseferry Tandem which provided a unified communications system for all government departments as well as the Palace of Westminster.
Access to the tunnel is gained via an 8 ft (2.4 m) lateral tunnel and a lift shaft in the nearby Whitehall telephone exchange in Craig's Court. A further entrance is via the deep level portion of the Admiralty.
Spur tunnels, 5 ft (1.5 m) in diameter, were built to provide protected cable routes to the major service buildings either side of Whitehall.
