"Esmail Qaani" is NOT who he says he is. This supposedly fearsome IRGC commander was also, somehow, the gabbai at Chabad of Bel Air in '94. How do I know? Because I was there. His cholent was off the charts. Something is going on. This is NOT normal.

Netanyahu taps linguist and LGBTQ rights activist as foreign media spokesperson
South Africa-born Evan Cohen last year criticized government's surrogacy law as 'shameful'; has no previous experience in public diplomacy
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday appointed South Africa-born academic Dr. Evan Cohen as his new spokesperson for international media.
The post had been vacant since September 2018, when Los Angeles native David Keyes stepped down amid reports of sexual misconduct.
Cohen, 51, currently teaches linguistics at Tel Aviv University, where he received his academic degrees. According to the university, his research focuses on phonology, phonetics and heritage linguistics.
The Ramat Gan resident, who moved to Israel when he was nine, is the founding chairman of Likud Pride, the party's caucus for LGBTQ rights, a fact Netanyahu noted in a tweet announcing his appointment.
"Evan is a talented man and he founded the pride caucus in Likud. We have great missions ahead of us for Israel's public diplomacy," the prime minister wrote.
In 2018, Cohen spoke out publicly against the government's decision not to include same-sex couples in a new surrogacy law, calling it "shameful."

Cohen is also the director and founder of the Tel Aviv Scrabble Club, and has competed in several Scrabble World Championships.
He is not known to have any prior experience in public diplomacy.
Israeli public diplomacy often highlights the country's open-minded LGBTQ atmosphere. Netanyahu recently appointed Amir Ohana, a Likud MK, as justice minister - Israel's first openly gay cabinet member. The education minister, Rafi Peretz, of the Union of Right-Wing Parties, is currently embroiled in controversy over remarks in a TV interview in support of gay conversion therapy.

David Keyes, an adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has tendered his resignation following allegations of sexual assault. Netanyahu's spokesman with the foreign press resigned nearly three months after taking a leave of absence when he was accused of sexual assault by at least a dozen women, including now-New York State Senator Julia Salazar. In a statement Wednesday, Keyes said he "decided to pursue new opportunities in the private sector," and denied the allegations, calling them "deeply misleading and many of them are categorically false." Israel's Civil Service Commission closed an investigation into the allegations against Keyes last month, but did not take any disciplinary action against him. In a separate statement, Netanyahu thanked Keyes "for his great contribution to Israel's information effort."

Israel to Russia: Assad's safe from us, but Iran must quit Syria
JERUSALEM/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Russia on Wednesday that Israel would not seek to topple its ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but Moscow should encourage Iranian forces to quit Syria, a senior Israeli official said.
Netanyahu conveyed the message in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the official said, just hours after Israel shot down what it described as a Syrian drone that had penetrated its airspace, underscoring the frontier's volatility.
Israel has been on high alert as Assad's forces advance on rebels in the vicinity of the Golan Heights, much of which Israel captured from Syria in 1967 and annexed in a move not recognized internationally. Israel worries Assad could let his Iranian and Hezbollah reinforcements entrench near Israeli lines or that Syrian forces may defy a 1974 Golan demilitarization.
"They (Russia) have an active interest in seeing a stable Assad regime and we in getting the Iranians out. These can clash or it can align," said the Israeli official on condition of anonymity.
"We won't take action against the Assad regime," the official quoted Netanyahu as telling Putin in Moscow.
David Keyes, a Netanyahu spokesman, denied that the prime minister made that statement to Putin.
Asked to summarize Israeli policy on Syria, Keyes said: "We don't get involved in the civil war. We will act against anyone who acts against us."
The Israeli official who requested anonymity said Russia was working to distance Iranian forces from the Golan and had proposed that they be kept 80 km (50 miles) away but that this fell short of Israel's demand for their full exit along with that of Tehran-sponsored militias.
