We had an iconic moment in history, a demonstration of courage and resolve in the face of evil. It brought unity to the right in so many ways. It's a forever moment.
Barely a month later, doubt and second-guessing is creeping into the psyche of many on the center-right.

Reason number one is the left sowing seeds of doubt with their psyops machine. The Democrat/media/tech complex is working overtime. For example: J.D. Vance is the wrong choice. We're weird. Kamala is Supergirl and Wonder Woman, but wait, there's more! Kamala was never border czar. Crime is down because we say so. Democrats are wonderfully cool. What immigration crisis? Trump is so bad, the assassination never really happened. We're going to lose anyway.

Those are just a few of the narratives they are implanting in the nation's psyche. None of them true. Some are so obviously false as to be laughable. Yet they persist. It's part of their plan to sow division, tempting us to disbelieve our own eyes, ears, or memories. The effect of their persistence is manifold, but the one thing they want more than anything is to weaken our resolve. Confuse. Obfuscate. Demoralize. Take away our will to fight.

The second reason is personal. Let's admit it. Some days it's hard not to get caught in this negative vortex. For all of us.We need to successfully cope with their very real psyops machine. The machine is effective. They will do this all the way to the election and beyond. They are using the demonic Saul Alinsky's first rule: Make us think they are more powerful than they are.

This is a serious game, with the intent to inflict serious psychological damage. Even those who know their game can be sucked in. The fiery darts their machine sends out are powerful. Seeing them convince so many that forcing tampons into boys' bathrooms is intelligent or normal should give us pause. Seeing them convince many on their side that the border issue was caused by Trump tells us they believe their power to form narrative is God-like.

We need to fight this. First, to maintain our sanity. Second, to begin to take back our nation in this election, with the hope of ridding ourselves of the toxic people who make this negative psyops machine work.

To those supporting our MAGA movement:This really is the most important election of our lives.Our cherished way of life will go onto the ash heap of history if we lose. To win, we need to outwork, outfox, and beat the left's ability to cheat. A tall order. A long fight.

Our fight begins with a willingness to unify behind our excellent candidate. We must gain the edge needed to win. One of those things we all must do is pull in the same direction.

But we need to remember one particular human weakness. We can all have a bent towards negativity at times. A.A. Milne's character Eeyore and C.S. Lewis's Puddleglum poke fun at that. Of all things we need to curb, it is this tendency to go negative on our movement and/or our candidate. The left is incredibly disciplined at unifying their troops. It's something we need right now.

There are those NeverTrumpers that we cannot reach, such as David French, who are part of the psyops machine of the left. They help psyops groups like Republicans for Kamala, pretending Trump is so bad that they as former Republicans must vote to install permanent leftist power over us all. These we can ignore, or time to time write against.They are leftist agitprop and nothing more.

There is another extreme on our side, nicknamed "doomers" by many fine commentators. These are people on our side, but no matter what good news we have, no matter how much we are winning a particular battle, they simply give in to losing. Many excuses, but all leading to the same thing. The willingness to call down defeat through discouraging us all who are in the battle. Quoting Eeyore, "If it's a nice morning, which I doubt." Some of these doomers are beyond that, and it's toxic.

Moses sent 12 spies to scope out the land they were told to conquer. Ten of them who came back were basically doomers:"We can't defeat these people, there are too many, they are like giants, their cities are fortified, the land itself will swallow us up." So devastating, these negative reports caused the Israelites to cry and yearn for the good old days they were slaves.

Two spies disagreed.They saw the way to victory, spoke it, and acted in ways that would make them win. Their lesson should be our lesson. Victory is in sight. We have right on our side, and if we do the work necessary, we will win. The tide is with us:

Trump's Doing Nothing to Win Over Anti-Trump GOP Voters

There are perfectly rational reasons why someone who supported the GOP prior to Donald Trump's rise would consider voting for Joe Biden as the lesser of two evils. And more and more old-school Republicans, it seems, are starting to figure this out.

HOUSTON, March 8 (Reuters) - Offshore wind is a bad bet due to the complications of installing and maintaining infrastructure at sea and the high cost of transmitting electricity back to shore, NextEra Chief Executive John Ketchum said on Wednesday.

"It's very capital intensive," he said during an event at the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston.

U.S.-based NextEra is the world's largest producer of renewable power, with a focus on solar and onshore wind.

The administration of President Joe Biden is hoping to grow U.S. offshore wind power as part of its multipronged effort to decarbonize the economy to fight climate change. It has auctioned leases in federal waters. But most of the interest in those leases has so far come from European companies with years of experience in the offshore wind sector, which took off in Europe decades ago.

Ketchum said some of the industry's complications included salt water corrosion, the threat of hurricanes, the availability of ships and the installation of subsea transmission cables, and added that supply chain issues have driven up the costs.

"We find it hard enough just to take care of a fleet onshore with some of the issues that we deal with as a company, and we're best in class," he said.

Ketchum said NextEra expects its power generation capacity - excluding its regulated utility Florida Power and Light - to grow dramatically in the next few years, from around 25 gigawatts now to around 70 gigawatts in 2026.

"And that installed capacity is going to come from renewables only," he said.

He said the company's plans assume huge advancements in battery storage technology needed to provide power to the grid when the sun is not shining and wind is not blowing. Batteries for power storage currently only last around four hours.

"You're going to see significant innovations that come to market for the next, I'd say, five to seven years that are going to dramatically change how we think about batteries," he said.

He said the electric vehicle industry was driving much of the innovation in batteries.

Ketchum said the Biden administration's Inflation Reduction Act, which provides some $370 billion in incentives for clean energy, was a significant boost to the industry and that NextEra was well-placed to take advantage of it because of the company's scale.

Despite having the largest renewable power fleet, Ketchum believed natural gas would play an important role in generation until storage technology improves.

"I mean it's just putting your head in the sand to believe that the energy transition that this country is embarking on will work without natural gas power generation."

They are utterly repulsed by the people Trump represents, and they are nothing short of disdainful of the American people who told them to shove it.

If, for the sake of the hypothetical, Hulk Hogan won the presidency in 2016 on the basis of re-establishing the U.S. as the global manufacturing hegemon while promising to restore national sovereignty at the southern border and reverse the cultural malaise that ate away at people across the heartland, the McConnells and Frenches of the world would be anti-Hogan.

They hate Trump, but they really hate you. You, your family, and your community are supposed to finance their special interests with your tax dollars until the end of time. They couldn't stand having their interests put on the back burner for four brief years while Trump advanced the interests of the American people. Trump's willingness to actually deliver for the people, effectively giving them a semblance of control over the government, wasn't supposed to happen.

No Wonder the IRS is Losing Emails: It Was Trying to Throw Conservatives in Jail

The IRS is announcing the "loss" of mass numbers of e-mails (do they have any computers that don't crash?) even as the e-mails that do exist are beginning to show the extent of IRS corruption. Let's take this exchange (previously uncovered by Judicial Watch) between Lois Lerner, the director of exempt organizations at the IRS, and Nikole Flax, then the IRS commissioner's chief of staff. (To be clear, these are not "low level" employees.)

First, here's Lerner on May 8, 2013, literally two days before last year's fake apology for IRS tea-party targeting:

I got acall today from Richard Pilger Director Elections Crimes Branch at DOJ. I know him from contacts from my days there. He wanted to know who at IRS the DOJ folk s could talk to about[Rhode Island Democrat] Sen. Whitehouse idea at the hearing that DOJ could piece together false statement cases about applicants who "lied" on their 1024s -saying they weren't planning on doing political activity, and then turning around and making large vis ible political expenditures. DOJ is feeling like it needs to respond, but want to talk to the right folks at IRS to see whether there are impediments from our side and what, if any damage this might do to IRS programs.

I told him that sounded like we might need several folks from IRS. I am out of town all next week, so wanted to reach out and see who you think would be right for such a meeting and also hand this off to Nan as contact person if things need to happen while I am gone -

Translation: The Obama Justice Department was reaching out to the Obama IRS to see if it could "piece together" prosecutions of nonprofits even before any evidence of wrongdoing emerged.

And how did Nikole Flax respond? By suggesting that even more federal agencies get involved:

I think we should do it - also need to include CI, which we can help coordinate. Also, we need to reach out to FEC. Does it make sense to consider including them in this or keep it separate?

In other words, rather than asking the DOJ whether it possessed any evidence of wrongdoing by American citizens engaged in constitutionally protected activities, two senior officials in the Obama IRS (including one,Lois Lerner, who "joked" about wanting to work for Organizing For Action, also known as BarackObama.com) pushed forward the effort to launch a multi-agency criminal probe, involving even the FEC. Oh, and keep in mind that this e-mail exchange occurred literally years after the IRS claimed it had ended all tea-party targeting.

And in the last few days we learn the IRS has "lost" e-mails from - among others - Lois Lerner and Nikole Flax. What a remarkable coincidence.

The scale of the wrongdoing is staggering. Targeting Americans for criminal investigation without evidence, attempting to enlist multiple federal agencies in the effort, selective audits, selective disclosures of confidential documents, selective questioning and delays of nonprofit applicants - all in the service of suppressing dissent. At the ACLJ, I'm one of the attorneys in our litigation - on behalf of 41 conservative groups in 22 states - against the IRS and key IRS officials.

As of today, we're putting the DOJ, FEC, and even key Democratic senators on notice: They're bound by law to preserve any communications with IRS officials that would be discoverable in our lawsuit.

The administration's misconduct and its cover-up are so brazen, so contemptuous of common sense and the truth, that they will - once and for all - put the media and the Left to the test: When it comes to this administration, does the rule of law matter at all? Does the truth matter at all? Or is it all about ideology now?

I know how they'll respond, and I fear for the future of our democracy. They fight us today - by virtually any means necessary - so their government of the Left, by the Left, and for the Left shall not perish from the Earth.

We've rolled out the blueprint for a society that is nominally free, but willing to throw freedom away in a crisis.

The Glasgow Climate Conference wrapped Friday with so much progress: There was a "joint pledge" by President Joe Biden and an indifferent Chinese dictator to slow down the changing climate sometime in the next decade or so; there was a call from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to "get on and do it," whatever that means; there was even a column from The New York Times' Tom Friedman on how, after seeing all the protests and listening to all the leaders, he's feeling "very energized, and very afraid."

It was great. Refreshing, really. I loved it.

Why? Because it felt like a return to normalcy: A few thousand completely clueless, feckless old men flying from all over the planet to babble on about saving the world and maybe even catch a quick nap during the most boring of the mostly boring speeches.

There was excitement, too! They pulled out all the stops: Creepy 20-foot puppet shows, sobbing children completely convinced they're going to die unless every adult on the planet stops what they're doing and listens to their teenaged opinions, drum circles, even Peruvian flutes. It felt vintage; as if from a simpler time.

But there's a major problem: While it might have felt like a return to normalcy, it wasn't. We're not going back to normal - at least not without a hard and vicious fight.

Why not? Because the past two years have witnessed the very things that kept those stupid marches largely confined to just stupid marches: our society's apparent decision to sacrifice liberty on the altar of fear and the triumph of timid technocrats over bold citizenry. This had been building behind the scenes, mind you, but with the excuse of COVID was it ready to be revealed.

Back in 2019, before the global shutdowns, there was a lot of internal debate within conservatism about which direction our society ought to go. Should we stick with our collective devotion to libertine individualism and cheap goods, as lawyers like David French preferred? Or should we move past the modern liberal consensus, and turn to a more involved government that tries to actively reorder society toward the higher good, as Sohrab Ahmari, Tucker Carlson, and a few of us here at The Federalist proposed?

Sohrab, Tucker, and the rest of us were viciously attacked for our heresy against the modern liberal order. How dare we stir up trouble and inflame feelings? We were ruining the club vibe, splintering party unity. We can't help people global markets have forgotten. And God? He's just a private venture.

While we had this debate, however, global events - and the left - overtook us. Mary Harrington, an editor of the British magazine UnHerd, puts it this way: "The pandemic state of emergency [shattered] the consensus about individual freedom. Across the developed world, the liberal privileging of individual freedom has been replaced by a de facto acceptance that state power absolutely must be ordered to the common good, up to and including coercive measures where necessary."

"In other words," she writes, "all politics is now post-liberal."

They submitted legislation on September 14th to place their independence referendum on the ballot for November 2022. Like HB1359, it still needs to pass the House and Senate to be placed on the ballot, but hopefully, their elected legislators will represent their constituents more accurately than those in Texas. If it passes, they will need to get 66% of the voters to vote 'yes', and the amendment will be added to their constitution, which, according to The Liberty Block, "would officially sever all ties with Washington, D.C., becoming a self-governing nation-state."

Other states are also promoting and researching independence from D.C. According to the Casper Star-Tribune, Wyoming Republican Party Chairman Frank Eathorne states, "We are straight-talking, focused on the global scene, but we're also focused at home. Many Western states have the ability to be self-reliant, and we're keeping eyes on Texas, too, and their consideration of possible secession."

California had petitions circulating similar to the TNM's back in 2020. According to Ballotpedia, the California Independence Referendum would have allowed a special election in May 2021 to pose the question to the people of becoming an independent nation in the form of a republic. Their efforts failed to produce results. However, the hopes of CalEXIT remain in the hearts and minds of some scholars, such as writer David French. In his 2020 book Divided We Fall: America's Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation, he argues that polarization is so extreme that the country may split, suggesting scenarios such as "a Texas departure rooted in abortion politics, and a guns-rights clash in California." (Mercury News, 2021)

America's Choice: Devolve or Dissolve?

David French has written an engaging book about the threat of American secession, without satisfactorily explaining why that would be so terrible. In fact, he makes it sound rather attractive when he describes the angry passions which divide us. There is not "a single important cultural, religious, political, or social force that is pulling Americans together more than it is pushing us apart." That was written before the Black Lives Matter protests and riots. It's gotten worse since then. A lot worse.

There's not much left of a common American culture. We watch different networks, read different websites, and have a different set of Facebook friends. Politics has come to shape our identities, for both left and right. Tell me who you vote for and I'll tell you what sports you like, what music you listen to, what blogs you read, and even where you buy your groceries.

Sorting ourselves into different groups like that produces a groupthink which excludes dissenting views. It also intensifies partisan rancor and amplifies the most extreme voices on either side. It's like a bidding war, in which people vie to voice the angriest beliefs and justify the most mean-spirited punishments. In isolation, we'll have one reaction to the death of George Floyd, but surrounded by progressives we'll quickly become enraged and see the police as our enemy and the riots as justified.

When the separation between political groups is complete, the other side is seen as evil. And what then? "One does not respect evil. One defeats evil. Justice demands nothing less." Don't be surprised at Portland, therefore. The rioters have simply embraced the logic of the "resistance."

What would spark a secession movement is civil disorder and violence, says French, and he describes several ways in which that might happen. He couldn't have foreseen the riots sparked by the George Floyd incident, and if he had, he might think we've already reached the boiling point. In a sense, it's even worse today than in 1968, since no serious politician would have defended lawlessness 52 years ago. There was also a silent majority in 1968 that elected Richard Nixon, and I'm not sure it exists today. On the left, violence is increasingly seen as a legitimate form of political expression: It's happening. Deal with it. You deserve it. On French's thinking, that might make secession less likely, if more desirable.

If we're so divided, then, what would keep us together? I should have thought it would be nationalism, love of country. If we all felt about America as we did not so long ago, there could never be a breakup. French dislikes the word nationalism, however. He prefers to speak of patriotism. That's a semantic quibble, but there's little enough in French's book about either nationalism or patriotism. If someone asked me why we should stay united, I'd want to talk about glorious moments in our history, about American arts and letters, and ask "do you really want to give that up?"

Sadly, for many on the left, the answer is yes. That's the point of the 1619 Project. So French reasonably doesn't go there. Instead, he worries about the loss of American military might that would follow a breakup, and what this would mean for the rest of the world. That's what one might expect from Bill Kristol's candidate for president in 2016, and it's not a concern to be dismissed. Pro-Trump conservatives should prepare for Trump-free politics, sooner or later, and when that happens they must seek to unite the right. They might admit that America has a stake in global stability and recall that most Republicans were on board with the invasion of Iraq in 2002, if not with the idea we could remake the Middle East in our image.

What this means is that Facebook and other rich liberals are paying David French to smear you (and the other 70+ million Americans who voted for Donald Trump) as an extremely dangerous "white supremacist" who should be prohibited from using the Internet at all.
These "conservative thought leaders" - the ones who believe that every decent person with "principles" will always vote for Democrats - have not abandoned their lucrative grift now that its original purpose (i.e., electing Joe Biden and a Democratic congressional majority) has been accomplished. Instead, David French and his friends are engaged in a scorched-earth vengeance campaign to destroy the lives of everyone who voted for Trump, because that's what they're getting paid to do.
Let us stipulate, arguendo, that David French may be acting in good conscience. That is to say, perhaps French - who is, after all, an alumnus of Harvard Law School - actually does believe you are a dangerously ignorant, hate-filled crypto-Nazi who deserves to be arrested by federal authorities and locked up in Leavenworth. This is what every Harvard alumnus thinks, that the 70+ million Americans who voted for Trump are an existential threat more dangerous than al-Qaeda or ISIS.
The point, however, is that the people who run Facebook think you're dangerous, and they're paying David French's bills, so when he goes on CNN to join Brian Stelter in warning the CNN audience about how dangerous Trump voters are, it's because that's how French earns his pay.

Imagine you heard that someone got a "direct diploma" from Harvard but didn't actually have to do four years of papers and tests.

The term "veteran" wields a strange talismanic power in American politics today; the military is almost the only institution in American life that has maintained very high favorability ratings over the past 30 years. Invocation of the sacred words "military service" invariably grants a presumed license to make ad hominem arguments: "Oh yeah? What do you know about it? Did you serve?" A military past, regardless of how extensive it was, tends to be seen as a shining jewel on the résumé of a politician.
Democrats especially seem to think this way: A party that suspects, with excellent cause, that people have noticed its doubtfulness about the merits of the American experiment is if anything even more eager to find veterans to convey its message. The party hopes that having served in the military will immunize a candidate against doubts about a given candidate's patriotism. This theory reached a loony apotheosis when the 2004 Democratic party nominated for the presidency a veteran who had become famous for characterizing the U.S. military as a gang of war criminals and thrown away his medals in disgust. "We saw Vietnam ravaged equally by American bombs and search and destroy missions, as well as by Viet Cong terrorism," Kerry said, characterizing the military as racist and calling a vicious Communist regime that would later cause millions to flee South Vietnam "the threat we were supposedly saving them from." No way anyone could have any misgivings about this guy's patriotism! Or so Democrats think. Democrats are odd.

People join the military for all sorts of different reasons. Many join because it's the best available job. Our former colleague David French joined, under no obligation whatsoever, at the Methuselan age of 37 (for which a special waiver is required) because he felt a deep moral urgency to aid fellow Americans in Iraq, where he served in 2007 and 2008. I joined to pay for college. Pete Buttigieg apparently joined because he thought it would add a great line to his résumé when he ran for president, which he planned to do from the time he was a zygote.

Clubhouse has been a place where young conservatives, as well as anyone else, have been able to converse freely.

Clubhouse, an invitation-only app featuring audio-chat rooms for iPhone users, has become a popular place for discourse among young conservatives as they are able to avoid the right-wing censorship that is present on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms.

The New York Times said it consisted of "unfettered conversations" and that there were "misinformation" concerns on the app. The paper alleged that there were reports of conspiracy theories surrounding COVID-19 vaccinations and harassment of a female doctor.

However, part of the appeal of the app that exploded in popularity in February is that discussions would not be moderated or censored like posts on Twitter, for example. Conversations are not fact-checked or censored, and users are not suspended or banned for discourse.

It has been a place where young conservatives, as well as anyone else, have been able to converse freely about anything from important political topics to satire, such as the Babylon Bee.

Clubhouse is often referred to as "Conservative Twitter." Many have flocked to it for nightly conversations with people they have met on Twitter, in order to have conversations that may sometimes consist of sensitive topics, without fear of retaliation by Twitter.

Since recording conversations is against the rules on Clubhouse, conservatives on the app feel safe from being canceled for unpopular comments. While inappropriate remarks can still be heard on Clubhouse, those upset are just expected to leave the room.

The closest thing to conservative censorship in a Clubhouse room would be the equivalent of a Zoom meeting. Moderators of each room are able to mute participants, remove them from the room, or move them to the "listeners" section of the room so they are not permitted to speak. This is typically only done to restore order in the room when a participant is interrupting or trolling during a serious conversation such as "The Future of the Republican Party," which took place on several occasions.

Notable conservative favorites, such as Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) and political commentator David French, have found themselves on the platform having conversations with young conservatives from around the country about policy, the conservative movement and more.

"Our goal was to build a social experience that felt more human, where instead of posting, you could gather with other people and talk," Clubhouse founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth said in a blog post in January. "Our north star was to create something where you could close the app at the end of the session feeling better than you did when you opened it, because you had deepened friendships, met new people and learned."

The app currently requires an invitation from an existing user to join, and is only available to Apple devices. However, the founders have said they hope to open it up to Android users soon.

Once in the app, users can join audio chat rooms with topics listed at the top of each room. Users can also look to see which rooms their "mutuals" are in.

The 'Exhausted Majority' Wakes Up for Joe Biden

As recently as two weeks ago it looked like American politics had settled into a divisive new reality. The aggressive ideological wings so dominated the two political parties that they guaranteed that the general election contest would be between two most polarizing candidates, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders. The battle would be fought between one of the more aggressive and cruel personalities in recent political history and the politician who seeks to remake the American economy more than any president since Franklin D. Roosevelt.

This is the future one feared after reading one most intriguing and insightful modern studies of the American voting public - the One America Movement's study of America's "hidden tribes." Rather than merely asking voters if they were Democratic, Republican, or Independent - or if they were conservative, liberal, or moderate - it dug deeper. It discerned a total of seven distinct political divisions ("tribes) in the United States. Our nation is comprised of progressive activists, traditional liberals, passive liberals, the politically disengaged, moderates, traditional conservatives, and devoted conservatives.

But if there were so many different shades of gray, why does America feel so polarized? Because the three "wings" - progressive activists, devoted conservatives, and traditional conservatives - tend to dominate political discourse. Together they comprise 33 percent of the electorate, with the two extremes (progressive activists at 8 percent and traditional conservatives at 6 percent) more than twice as likely to view politics as a hobby than the rest of America. Politically, they punch well above their numerical weight.

What about the rest of America? It was the "exhausted majority" - those Americans who are "fed up with the polarization plaguing American government and society." Moreover, that exhausted majority was concentrated on the center and center left - the 26 percent of Americans who were traditional or passive liberals, and the 15 percent of moderates. Thus, if the exhausted majority was going to show itself, it would first show itself in the Democratic primary. The question was whether the key word in that description was "exhausted" or "majority."

If the center-left majority was too exhausted, then the energized wings would dominate both parties. There is in the Trump era no distinct or potent center-right. And if the progressive minority turned out in sufficient numbers (and the moderates stayed home), then America would face an election featuring its most divisive political personalities.

With the sudden and decisive rise of Joe Biden - a man who is putting a fight for the "soul of America" front and center in his campaign and has frequently touted his desire (and ability) to reach across the aisle - has answered the question, at least for Democrats. The majority is less exhausted than it might appear. The energy of the progressive activists simply can't overcome the sheer numbers of the suburban and African-American voters who are demonstrably more moderate than the disproportionately white progressive base.

Despite his lopsided defeats, Bernie Sanders is fighting on, but barring truly unexpected developments, the race is over. That leaves 2020 as one of the more fascinating races since World War II. Trump will wrap his arms around his base with the same intensity that he hugs the flag at CPAC. Biden will aggressively court the same suburban moderates who gave the House to the Democrats in 2018.

Despite the fact that Soleimani's death will save American lives, Sen. Cory Booker said on MSNBC it is Trump who is "making the world less of a safe place." Within an hour of the news of Soleimani's death on Thursday, Booker appeared on CNN asserting that Trump, "has had really a failure in his Iranian policy."
Although it was President Obama who shipped $150 billion in cash to Iran, emboldening terrorists like Soleimani, Booker is convinced that under the Trump administration, "Iran has become more influential and more dangerous."
Democratic presdiential candidate Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, released a statement bemoaning the "serious questions about how this decision was made."
From the sound of Buttigieg's promise to "ask the hard questions" as president, it seems as if he might have bypassed killing Soleimani given the chance, thus allowing the potential deaths of more Americans at Soleimani's hands.
Additionally, Buttigieg insinuates that Trump's decision without congressional authority was unlawful. This is false. As David French pointed out on Twitter, because American troops are lawfully in Iraq, the airstrike was duly authorized, justified, and in no need of congressional authorization.
Democratic presidential candidates and Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders also bypassed this opportunity to praise Trump for the successful take-out of the world's most dangerous terrorist, and instead focused only on ginning up concern that Trump has started World War III in Iran.
In a tweet, Warren wailed, "Now he's assassinated a senior foreign military official," as if this was the assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and not of a terrorist who was actively targeting the United States and has himself authorized an act of war against the United States in supporting the attack on a U.S. embassy.
Sanders opted to ignore the news of the drone strike completely, and to instead talk about his past anti-war protests and to assure his supporters he would prevent the non-existent war in Iran.
Biden says Trump owes Americans a "strategy and plan to keep safe our troops and embassy personnel." This is odd considering the killing of Soleimani will quite literally save the lives of troops and Americans in the embassies Soleimani had planned attacks on. In comparison, the Obama-Biden administration responded to attacks on a U.S. embassy and the death of a U.S. ambassador by lying about what had happened and arresting a YouTuber who after imprisonment ended up in a homeless shelter for exercising his free speech.
Another 2020 Democrat candidate, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, falsely claimed Trump had acted without congressional authority.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey's (R) media and communications wing is using Never Trumper David French to justify the Governor's current gun control push.

Ducey has been angling to add gun control to Arizona, one of the most gun-friendly states in the Union, ever since the February 14, 2018, Parkland school shooting in Florida. The central component to Ducey's gun control push is a Red Flag law that creates STOP Orders. Such orders allow guns to be confiscated from Arizonans.

On August 15, 2018, the AZ Capitol quoted Ducey describing his STOP (Severe Threat Order of Protection) as the "crown jewel" of a gun control push that began after Parkland.

He said, "I think the STOP plan - the Severe Threat Order of Protection - is the crown jewel of our safe schools plan." He added, "It's the one tool that could have eliminated the mass shootings that have happened in other places in the country."

In reality, confiscatory Red Flag Laws have not stopped some of the highest profile shootings in our nation's recent history.

For example, Illinois has a confiscatory Red Flag Law, but that did not prevent the February 15, 2019, Henry Pratt Company shooting that killed five innocents. California also has a confiscatory Red Flag Law, but that did not prevent the November 7, 2018, Borderline Bar & Grill shooting that killed 12. Moreover, Florida also adopted a Red Flag Law after the Parkland attack, and that law did not prevent the January 23, 2019, SunTrust Bank shooting in which five innocents were killed.

Breitbart News reached out to Ducey's office for comment on his support of Red Flag Laws and a member of his media/communications team responded by showing us that Never Trumper David French supports the gun control push. They sent us a quote from French, in which he described Ducey's gun control as "perhaps the most intelligent policy response to school shootings (and, honestly, mass shootings more generally) that [he has] ever read."

French refused to support Trump during the 2016 race and continues, even now, to urge Americans to vote Trump out. As recently as July 25, 2019, French wrote a column for TIME magazine suggesting Robert Mueller's Congressional testimony should serve as justification for Americans to abandon Trump.

Bill Kristol, the founder of the now-defunct Weekly Standard, accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from a left-wing tech billionaire and Trump foe to "defend" the work of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He was in on the Russian collusion story from the beginning, clearly parroting Fusion GPS talking points in a July 2016 article, "Putin's Party."

Kristol, now the editor-at-large of what appears to be a satirical "conservative" blog called The Bulwark, has an obsession with Russian collusion that borders on insanity; in November, he tweeted a remake of a "Fiddler on the Roof" tune to include the word "collusion" several times. Just last month, he posted an article about Paul Manafort's 2016 meeting with an alleged Russian political operative at a D.C. cigar with a one-word title: "Collusion," he tweeted. (He has dozens of tweets with the word "collusion.")

When Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty in August 2018, Kristol once again predicted doom for the president. "How do we know it is not Russia?" Kristol warned on MSNBC. "Michael Cohen may well know about the Trump Tower meeting . . . and Cohen was in touch with Trump throughout 2015 and 2016. I don't really buy the argument that this isn't important for the Russia side."

Kristol's Trump-Russia collusion fixation has been shared by his pals Jonah Goldberg and David French at National Review. Although Goldberg has publicly insisted he is a "collusion skeptic," he has promoted several collusion plotlines, including the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Russian lobbyists and Trump's campaign team, including the president's oldest son.

"I think it is collusion," Goldberg said in August 2018 during a Fox News radio interview, even as the interviewer explained how the meeting was clearly set-up by Fusion GPS chief Glenn Simpson. "I do think Donald Trump Jr. is in trouble . . . if he was led to believe that he was gonna get stuff that was illegally stolen from Hillary Clinton's server or from the DNC server and that he was looking forward to getting it." (There is no mention of emails or any server in the exchanges between Don Jr. and the intermediary.)

Goldberg then weirdly claimed, "I understand that [Don Jr.] said some things under oath to Congress about what his state of mind was going into all this." How did he "understand" this? Was Adam Schiff was leaking private testimony to Goldberg?

Goldberg also mocked the idea that the Obama Justice Department enlisted spies to infiltrate the campaign, and claimed that Carter Page and George Papadopoulos had "expressed an eagerness to work with a foreign power, Russia." He repeatedly suggested that Trump and his associates were behaving like men with "something to hide" about Russian collusion.

This mistake highlights two things, one related to the challenge of school security, the other to the perception of public risk.

No one doubts the convulsive horror of a school shooting. Massacres in American classrooms are uniquely terrifying, and parents, politicians, and educators are right to mobilize to stop them. At the same time, each mass shooting raises a question: How violent are our schools, really? The worst shootings make the headlines, but do they reflect a widespread problem?

There are sources that will answer with an emphatic yes. For example, Everytown for Gun Safety maintains an expansive interactive database that asserts that since 2013 there have been "344 incidents of gunfire on school grounds" in the U.S. - a number that includes accidental discharges, suicides, fights in parking lots, and every other incident involving the discharge of a gun. The "school shootings" that all parents fear represent a tiny fraction of those 344 incidents, which suggests that the chances of any given school facing a spree killer are almost vanishingly small.

But then along comes the Department of Education to amplify everyone's fears. Last spring it declared that "nearly 240 schools . . . reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting." This number blew through everyone's estimates, including Everytown's. Indeed, extrapolated over five years, it would triple Everytown's.

Well, I have good news: The DOE's estimate appears to be wildly exaggerated. NPR committed an act of journalism in the first degree and actually contacted each of the schools that reported a shooting to the DOE. It "found that more than two-thirds of these reported incidents never happened."

French said the bill defines the term "sexual orientation change practices" so broadly that even teaching about traditional Christian views of sexuality could be included.

The bill says, "'Sexual orientation change efforts' means any practices that seek to change an individual's sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex."

Still, French said, the bill doesn't ban the sale of Bibles or religious meetings. But it is so broadly written that it could ban some Christian books, he said.

And French doesn't expect Christian books to be banned at the local Barnes & Noble.

"It is hard for me to imagine the state attorney general-or whoever is charged with enforcing the law-going around and trying to purge books from the shelf," he said.

The New York Times ran three pieces this week opposing the NFL's new policy requiring players to stand for the national anthem during games, or remain in the locker room if they won't.

The Times' liberal columnist David Leonhardt called the rule "unpatriotic" because it "reject[s] a basic American value." (Making a statement about your special interest during a short patriotic song, you see, is exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind.)

The paper's editorial board injected its favorite topic, race, writing that the NFL "capitulated to a president who relishes demonizing black athletes."

And in keeping with the Times' long tradition of publishing conservative voices so long as their opinions are weak, the paper gave space to anti-Trump writer David French to denounce "the conservative mob" for approving of the NFL's policy.

By "conservative mob," French apparently means the large majority of Americans who don't approve of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem.

If the NFL is "siding" with Trump and the "conservative mob," it's only because that side is more popular than the Times' editorial board.

Trump first charged into the kneeling issue during a campaign-style rally on Sep. 22, 2017.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He's fired. He's fired!'" he said.

After Democrats and liberals in the media criticized him for his comments, a Reuters poll showed public support for his position soar.

On Sept. 26, half of Americans said they disagreed with NFL players kneeling during the national anthem and just 40 percent said they agreed with it. By Oct. 2, nearly 60 percent said they disagreed with the kneeling and the portion that agreed with it shrunk to 30 percent.

A more recent Washington Post poll published this week said that 53 percent of Americans said it was "never appropriate" to kneel during the anthem.

Trump himself isn't even that popular with the public, which should indicate that he was at least onto something.

Media: No thanks, we'll reflexively take the losing side because it feels good!

The exact same episode played out last week when Trump used the words "animals" to describe illegal immigrant gang members.

Democrats spent days defending the dignity of MS-13, the violent gang network made up mostly of Central American immigrants known for cutting up their victims with machetes.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., tweeted in response, "When all of our great-great-grandparents came to America they weren't 'animals,' and these people aren't either."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., responded to Trump's comments by noting that "We are all God's children."

And CNBC's John Harwood tweeted, "however repugnant their actions, MS-13 gang members are human beings..."

A Harvard-Harris poll this week showed that more than half, 56 percent, of Americans said it was "fair" to call MS-13 members "animals." That's compared to 44 percent who said it was unfair. (The poll didn't ask if respondents would instead prefer to call them "God's children.")

There are real feelings that Americans have about their culture, what it is, and how it should be preserved.

Democrats and the media don't get it, so they're picking fights they will inevitably lose.

Ocean Shipping Reform Act 2021 passed by US House of Representatives

The US House of Representatives has passed the controversial Ocean Shipping Reform Act 2021 (OSRA 2021).

The bi-partisan OSRA 2021 was passed by 364 - 60 votes and will now proceed to the Senate for debate.

The updated Act aims to give more power to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to take action on what it sees as anti-competitive behaviour by container shipping lines and resulting impact on US importers, exporters and retailers. It would require lines to meet minimum service standards.

The first major update to liner shipping regulation since OSRA 1998 and has been prompted by the unprecedented levels of congestion seen at US ports, supply chain disruption, and soaring freight rates.

Shipping industry representative bodies have, however, charged that OSRA 2021 would make the situation worse rather than helping solve it.

The World Shipping Council President John Butler commented : "The House today passed HR 4996 without proper debate or committee process. The bill is a political statement of frustration with supply chain challenges - frustrations that ocean carriers share.

"The problem is that the bill is not designed to fix the end-to-end supply chain congestion that the world is experiencing, and it will not and cannot fix that congestion.

"The World Shipping Council will continue to work with the Congress to seek real solutions that further strengthen the ocean transportation system that has supported the U.S. economy throughout the pandemic."

The bi-partisan bill was co-sponsored by Republican Representative Dusty Johnson, and Democrat Representative John Garamendi.

Republican co-sponsor of the bill Representative Johnson commented on the passing OSRA 2021 by the house, "We've all been impacted by the backlog in the supply chain and shipping delays,"

"China and the foreign flagged ocean carriers aren't playing fair, and accountability is long overdue. If you want to do business with American ports, you need to play by our basic rules. I am proud of the coalition Congressman Garamendi and I have worked to build over the last year. The Ocean Shipping Reform Act puts American consumers, farmers, ranchers, retailers, truckers, manufacturers, and small businesses first. Our bill passed the House with strong bi-partisan support and I look forward to seeing it pass the Senate."

The US National Retailers Federation (NRF) welcomed the passage of the bill by the House of Representatives.

NRF Senior Vice President of Government Relations David French commented: his bipartisan legislation provides much-needed updates and reform to an archaic system that retailers and thousands of other businesses depend on each day to transport goods.

"These improvements could not come at a more critical time, as the amplification from the pandemic has been severe. We thank Reps. Garamendi and Johnson for their leadership and the House for their swift vote to approve this measure. We encourage the Senate to follow suit."

The Glasgow Climate Conference wrapped Friday with so much progress: There was a "joint pledge" by President Joe Biden and an indifferent Chinese dictator to slow down the changing climate sometime in the next decade or so; there was a call from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to "get on and do it," whatever that means; there was even a column from The New York Times' Tom Friedman on how, after seeing all the protests and listening to all the leaders, he's feeling "very energized, and very afraid."

It was great. Refreshing, really. I loved it.

Why? Because it felt like a return to normalcy: A few thousand completely clueless, feckless old men flying from all over the planet to babble on about saving the world and maybe even catch a quick nap during the most boring of the mostly boring speeches.

There was excitement, too! They pulled out all the stops: Creepy 20-foot puppet shows, sobbing children completely convinced they're going to die unless every adult on the planet stops what they're doing and listens to their teenaged opinions, drum circles, even Peruvian flutes. It felt vintage; as if from a simpler time.

But there's a major problem: While it might have felt like a return to normalcy, it wasn't. We're not going back to normal - at least not without a hard and vicious fight.

Why not? Because the past two years have witnessed the very things that kept those stupid marches largely confined to just stupid marches: our society's apparent decision to sacrifice liberty on the altar of fear and the triumph of timid technocrats over bold citizenry. This had been building behind the scenes, mind you, but with the excuse of COVID was it ready to be revealed.

Back in 2019, before the global shutdowns, there was a lot of internal debate within conservatism about which direction our society ought to go. Should we stick with our collective devotion to libertine individualism and cheap goods, as lawyers like David French preferred? Or should we move past the modern liberal consensus, and turn to a more involved government that tries to actively reorder society toward the higher good, as Sohrab Ahmari, Tucker Carlson, and a few of us here at The Federalist proposed?

Sohrab, Tucker, and the rest of us were viciously attacked for our heresy against the modern liberal order. How dare we stir up trouble and inflame feelings? We were ruining the club vibe, splintering party unity. We can't help people global markets have forgotten. And God? He's just a private venture.

While we had this debate, however, global events - and the left - overtook us. Mary Harrington, an editor of the British magazine UnHerd, puts it this way: "The pandemic state of emergency [shattered] the consensus about individual freedom. Across the developed world, the liberal privileging of individual freedom has been replaced by a de facto acceptance that state power absolutely must be ordered to the common good, up to and including coercive measures where necessary."

"In other words," she writes, "all politics is now post-liberal."

Our government today is indeed far less constrained; more willing to take drastic action for the sake of what they believe is right. It's the inverse of what a number of us had hoped for - active, yes, but on the wrong side of the good and its God.
A Post-Liberal West

This transformation we've experienced has been so sudden and so dramatic that it's even reshaping our language. Take the word "democracy." Democracy used to mean rule by the people; it meant a government where there are regular elections with multiple political parties.

Today, "democracy" means something very different - it means rule by a narrow technocratic elite. Listening to every changing claim Tony Fauci utters? That's democracy; put him on the cover of Rolling Stone. A little rebellion? Some questions about vaccines or voter fraud or Black Lives Matter that aren't approved by CNN and Co.? That ain't democracy; that's "misinformation" - and it stays outside the Twitter.

The Supreme Court Was Right to Rule for Trump in Border-Wall Case

This evening the Supreme Court of the United States granted the Trump administration's request to stay a district court's permanent injunction against the diversion of $2.5 billion in military spending to begin construction on portions of Trump's border wall. In plain English, this means the wall construction can begin.
I believe this is the right result, for now, and I'll explain why.

Remember last month when San Francisco's Board of Supervisors passed a resolution declaring the National Rifle Association a domestic terrorist organization and ordered city employees to "take every reasonable step to limit" business interactions with the NRA and its supporters?

The one that our David French labeled "a retaliatory public attack on constitutionally protected speech"?

The NRA sued, and lo and behold, San Francisco is backing down, before the suit even went to court.

In a formal memo to city officials, San Francisco mayor London Breed declared that "no [municipal] department will take steps to restrict any contractor from doing business with the NRA or to restrict City contracting opportunities for any business that has any relationship with the NRA."

The memo declares, "resolutions making policy statements do not impose duties on City departments, change any of the City's existing laws or policies, or control City departments' exercise of discretion."

"Through these actions and our public advocacy, we hope the message is now clear," NRA CEO and executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said in a released statement.

"The NRA will always fight to protect our members and the constitutional FREEDOM!s in which they believe."

"The memo serves as a clear concession and a well-deserved win for the First and Second Amendments of the United States Constitution," says William A. Brewer III, partner at Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors and counsel for the NRA.

"It is unfortunate that in today's polarized times, some elected officials would rather silence opposing arguments than engage in good-faith debate. The NRA - America's oldest civil rights organization - won't stand for that."

The NRA is challenging a similar law passed by the Los Angeles city council that requiring city contractors to disclose any ties they have to the gun-rights group. Back in August, a federal judge denied a request by the city to dismiss the suit.
