Terror specialist appointed new London police chief Britain

The British government announced Friday a new head for UK's biggest police force and ordered him to rebuild public trust after a spate of scandals.

Mark Rowley had been appointed as the next commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police, Home Secretary Priti Patel said.

Rowley, a former head of the Met's "counter-terrorism unit," was described by Patel as a "distinguished and exceptionally experienced police officer".

The commissioner's job was "one of the most important and demanding jobs in policing," particularly given the force's recent "failings", she said in a statement, adding that "rebuilding public trust and delivering on crime reduction must be his priority."

Rowley, 57, said he was "deeply honoured" by the appointment. He will be in charge of more than 43,000 police officers and staff and a budget of ?3.24 billion ($3.9 billion).

The Met polices a population of more than eight million people over 620 square miles (1,605 square kilometers) of Greater London.

Scotland Yard was last month placed in special supervision by a police watchdog body after failing to reach standards targets.

Former commissioner Cressida Dick resigned in February after losing the backing of London Mayor Sadiq Khan after months of pressure over her officers' misconduct involving racism, sexism, and the murder of a young woman by a London police officer.

Chief among them was imprisoning a diplomatic protection squad member for the kidnap, rape, and killing of a young woman Sarah Everard in march 2021 – and the heavy-handed policing of a vigil for her.

Other officers have been accused of taking unauthorized photographs of murder victims at crime sites, in addition to sharing racist and abusive messages on social media platforms and messaging apps.

Rowley promised to "lead the renewal of policing by consent which has been so heavily dented in recent years as trust and confidence have fallen," vowing to be "ruthless in removing those who are corrupting our integrity."

The officer has more than 30 years of experience and served as chief constable of Surrey Police in southeast England.

He joined the Met in 2011 and led its response to terror attacks in 2017.

According to an official report from England's police watchdog, London police officers routinely made jokes about rape and exchanged racist messages, detailing a pattern of misogyny and bullying in the force, the latest blow to an embattled service that has faced intense scrutiny in recent months.

The findings reflected a troubling culture within the London Metropolitan Police Service, according to the report released by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the police watchdog, which detailed the incidents were not isolated or the work of a few "bad apples".

The new law would make it more difficult for Mr Khan to fire or suspend any future police chief constables. The law would cover the potential dismissal of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. This comes just a few days after Mr Khan forced Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick's resignation, after making it clear he had no confidence in her plans to reform the force.

However, the rule change has been in the pipeline since before Dame Cressida's resignation.

It is thought that her resignation may accelerate the changes.

The legal change would prevent police and crime commissioners (PCCs) - the role held by Mr Khan in London - from dismissing chief constables as a result of political or personal reasons.

Speaking about the changes, a government source said: "At the moment, the PCC can hire and fire at will.

"This is about getting a rigorous and transparent process so that police chiefs know they cannot just get sacked for political reasons."

Mr Khan faced backlash from the Metropolitan Police Federation over Dame Cressida's resignation, with the organisation saying it has "no faith" in his leadership.

The federation's chairman, Ken Marsh, accused politicians of using "policing and the career of the country's most senior police leader to deflect from their own failings."

He added: "This is not a move we take lightly.

"We have let the Mayor's office know in no uncertain terms how our brave and diligent colleagues deserve better.

"The atmosphere amongst Metropolitan Police officers is horrendous - it's rock bottom.

"Officers in London feel saddened and angry that the Commissioner Cressida Dick has been pushed out in the way she has.

"She was reforming. She was changing. The culture is changing.

"We are deeply disappointed with the actions of the Mayor."

But a spokesperson for Mr Khan said a change of leadership "was the only way to address this crisis in trust".

They added: "The series of scandals seen in recent years has tarnished the reputation of the police, which is so crucial to policing by consent.

"Downplaying the scale of the change required is only going to hinder, not help, the vital process of restoring Londoners' trust in the Met."

The new law will amend section 38 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011, preventing PCCs from hiring and firing at will if their relationship with the chief constable deteriorates.

It will force them to give written notice as the first stage of any dismissal process and will introduce a time limit on any suspension, alongside introducing an arbitration mechanism.

This is not the first time a mayor has faced controversy for the hiring and firing of a chief constable.

In 2020, Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham pushed Ian Hopkins to quit as chief constable of Greater Manchester Police.

At the time, Ms Patel accused the Labour mayor of having "thrown a senior police officer under the bus to save his own skin".

Boris Johnson as Mayor of London also forced the resignation of Lord Blair of Boughton as Met Police commissioner in 2008.

U.K. police say they won't take action on Prince Andrew sexual assault lawsuit

LONDON - British police said Monday that they would take no action after reviewing a document related to a U.S. civil sexual assault lawsuit filed against Queen Elizabeth II's son, Prince Andrew.
Virginia Giuffre, who has?accused Andrew of sexually abusing her?when she was a teenager, filed the suit in August in New York's Southern District. The suit alleges that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019?after he was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges, and his longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, compelled her to engage in sexual acts with Andrew 20 years ago.

She sued Andrew under New York State's Child Victim's Act, alleging he committed?"rape in the first degree."
Andrew, the Duke of York, has always vehemently denied the allegations. In a 2019 interview with the BBC, he said he has "no recollection" of ever meeting Giuffre. He also suggested that a photograph of them together with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell could have been doctored.
The suit alleges that Andrew abused her at three locations - in London and New York and at Epstein's private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, when she was under the age of 18. It mirrors claims that Giuffre, now 38, previously?detailed?to NBC's "Dateline."
The Metropolitan Police based in London said in the statement that it "continues to liaise with other law enforcement agencies who lead the investigation into matters related to Jeffrey Epstein."

However, its investigation into the document released in August has concluded and no action will be taken. The police also confirmed it had ended its review of Maxwell and allegations reported by Britain's Channel 4 in June that she trafficked, groomed and abused girls and women in the U.K.
Maxwell, who is British, is in jail in the U.S. awaiting trial on charges that she recruited teenage girls for Epstein to abuse. She pleaded not guilty in federal court this year and has long denied any wrongdoing.?

The police department had previously looked into claims related to Epstein. After taking legal advice it decided not to pursue further action because the activities involved took place mainly outside its jurisdiction.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) issued a statement late Sunday saying an officer from its Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command had been arrested for rape in Hertfordshire on Saturday.
"I am deeply concerned to hear the news today that an officer from the Met's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command has been arrested and now charged with this serious offence," Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said. "I fully recognise the public will be very concerned too."
PC David Carrick, 46, will appear virtually at Hatfield Remand Court on Monday, 4 October, after being formally charged on Sunday.
"The officer was off-duty in Hertfordshire at the time," the statement read. "He was arrested on 2 October by Hertfordshire Constabulary and suspended the same day by the Metropolitan Police".

The Metropolitan Police commissioner, Dame Cressida Dick, confirmed on Thursday that the force is conducting a review into the allegations of sexual assault against Prince Andrew, declaring that "no one is above the law."

Dick's comments were in response to the filing of a lawsuit in a US court by Virginia Giuffre, accusing Prince Andrew of sexual assault, battery and inflicting emotional distress on her when she was 17.

Within the court filing, lawyers representing the plaintiff included a 2001 infamous photo of Giuffre and the royal at Maxwell's home. Prince Andrew has suggested that the photo could be a forgery.

The Met has previously stated that it is willing to help US authorities "at any stage" of their investigation into the allegations against the royal amid "renewed focus on Mr. Epstein's friends and associates which could potentially instigate further criminal and/or civil investigations."

The 61-year-old prince, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II and the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, has repeatedly denied the allegations. During a 2019 interview with BBC Panorama, Prince Andrew said he had "no recollection" of meeting Giuffre and declared that the alleged sexual activity "never happened."

Inquiry Brands London Police 'Institutionally Corrupt'

An independent panel characterized London's Metropolitan Police as "institutionally corrupt" in a long-awaited report on the 1987 murder of private detective Daniel Morgan, which police reportedly tried to cover up.

The panel was supposed to release the 1,000-page-long report in May, but after a last-minute intervention - referred to by some as a "cover up" - by the Home Office, it was released on Tuesday.

It revealed that the Met police's "first objective was to protect itself" over repeated allegations of its "many failings" regarding the still-unsolved murder.

The inquiry focus the brutal axe murder of Morgan, father of two, in the parking lot of a pub in south London. There have been no successful prosecutions despite multiple major police investigations.

The panel examined questions relating to the role corruption played in protecting Morgan's killer, and the links between private investigators, police and journalists connected to the case.

While a motive for the murder has not been established, there have been claims the private detective was on the verge of exposing some form of police corruption when he was attacked and killed.

The report concluded there were severe failings in the initial investigation: interviews were not carried out, the crime scene was not searched properly, and alibis were not sought from suspects, to name a few. This means any potential evidence had been "irretrievably lost".

London law enforcement conceded "corruption and the malicious acts of corrupt individuals were a major factor in the failure of the first investigation," in response to the findings. Scotland Yard had previously admitted corruption was a "debilitating factor" in the original investigation.

"The Metropolitan Police also repeatedly failed to take a fresh, thorough and critical look at past failings," the report said. "Concealing or denying failings, for the sake of the organization's public image, is dishonesty on the part of the organization for reputational benefit and constitutes a form of institutional corruption."

It added that "the multiple police failures over many years, the death of witnesses and the passage of time, mean that it is most unlikely there will be a successful prosecution for Daniel Morgan's murder."

The more than 1,000-page report reminded the public that Morgan's family had "suffered grievously" from the failure to bring his killers to justice.

The family said in a statement they welcomed the recognition that they have been "failed over the decades by a culture of corruption and cover up in the Metropolitan Police," and that institutionalized corruption "has permeated successive regimes in the Metropolitan Police and beyond to this day."

Asked whether Met Police chief Cressida Dick should consider resigning in light of the report, Morgan's brother Alastair said at a press conference: "Absolutely."

U.K. Home Secretary Priti Patel called the report "deeply alarming" and described the Morgan case as "one of the most devastating episodes in the history of the Metropolitan Police".

U.K. Drug Traffickers Sentenced in Latest EncroChat Bust

Four users of the encrypted communications platform EncroChat have been sentenced for drug trafficking in the U.K., following a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation stemming from the decoding of messages on the once-secured phone system.

The four, all Britons, were sentenced to a combined 12 years for conspiring to import cannabis into the U.K. from Morocco using a yacht between Feb. 29 and June 1, 2020. Authorities said the drugs were set to be distributed across the U.K.

The case formed part of the ongoing Operation Venetic, the U.K. enforcement response to the elimination of the France-based EncroChat, which provided safety features for users to store, transmit and delete sensitive messages.

Announcing the first Operation Venetic bust in July of last year, U.K. authorities described EncroChat as a "bespoke encrypted global communication service used exclusively by criminals."

An estimated 60,000 users, including as many as 10,000 in Britain, subscribed to the platform and had access to features like self-destructing messages on customized Android phones, with subscriptions running to £1,500 (US$2,124).

EncroChat's archived website - the original is now offline - stated that the phones guaranteed users absolute anonymity by using two operating systems at once. If the user wanted the device to look harmless, he or she loaded up its regular Android system. If it was necessary to use secret chats, the user switched to the encrypted Encrochat system.

The platform was thought to be among the safest exchanges available, allowing criminals to share plot details. But French authorities, spotting that EncroChat phones were regularly popping up in criminal probes, began sharing information with counterparts in the Netherlands and elsewhere in 2017, France 24 reported.

UK Police Chief: 'Now Is Really Not the Time' for Freedom of Speech, Right to Assembly

The chief constable of Dorset Police has urged lockdown protesters to accept that "now is really not the time" for freedom of speech and the right to assembly.

Chief Constable James Vaughan was speaking after the controversial arrest of two women for, seemingly, being recorded leaving home more than once and "sitting on a bench", in an incident the police now allege was "stage-managed" by lockdown protesters, as one of the women is a Covid sceptic - although she denies any pre-planning.

"We appealed to them [the protesters] last weekend to say: 'Look guys, we respect your right to freedom of speech and right to assembly but now is really not the time, it is too dangerous. Please don't come, we have got other things we need to do,'" said the chief constable in comments to The Telegraph.

"Instead of giving us a break this weekend they decided to change their tactics and it just smacks of civil disobedience, really," he complained, saying that he was "a bit angry and frustrated with these protesters on Saturday" and claiming that his officers "were acting with utter courtesy and restraint".

Chief Constable Vaughan's zero-tolerance attitude towards protesters differs markedly from that shown by British police leaders towards Black Lives Matter activists, who have been allowed to break lockdown rules largely unmolested throughout the pandemic - in part, London Police Commissioner Cressida Dick admitted in June, because officers are afraid to enforce the law against them.

Incredibly, Chief Constable Vaughan seemed to admit the apparent double standard was an issue, and that the perhaps over-zealous enforcement of lockdown regulations against easier targets might be an issue - one causing damage to the public's relationship with the police.

"I think we have taken some shrapnel to be fair. When you look at drones in the Peak District, 90-year-olds being arrested, women walking their dogs getting fined... you have those who say: 'Nobody seemed to be bothered about Black Lives Matter or Extinction Rebellion protests or statues being thrown in the river,'" he confessed.

"The other extreme is that you are not doing enough and we are caught between the two really in terms of half the population seem to want us to take a very robust stance and the other half want us to take a proportionate stance so that is always the difficulty," he complained.

Vaughan also took the slightly unusual step of almost openly criticising Boris Johnson's government over how its lockdown should be enforced, with the police having made a number of missteps with respect to punishing people for leaving their home for exercise, which is allowed but only within vaguely-defined limits.

"I don't know what the rationale and thinking is in Government around why they have not been more prescriptive with travel guidance," he said.

"It has been a bit tricky through all three lockdowns. It would probably be better if they said: 'Look, you can exercise every day but stay local - and unless there are exceptional circumstances we don't expect you to be travelling a couple of miles from your house.'

"We seem to have said 'stay local' and that means your village, your town, your part of the city, but it is a bit vague and it leaves it open to abuse."

The head of London's police force vows officers will act "much more quickly" against people who fail to comply with the recent Covid-19 restrictions.

"Sadly, a small minority of people continue to flagrantly ignore the rules - for example, by holding house parties, meeting in basements to gamble, or breaking into railway arches for unlicensed raves," Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick wrote in an op-ed for The Times.

It is preposterous to me that anyone could be unaware of our duty to do all we can to stop the spread of the virus. We have been clear that those who breach Covid-19 legislation are increasingly likely to face fines.

Dick warned that "those who break the rules or refuse to comply where they should without good reason will find officers moving much more quickly to enforcement action."

She noted that, although the capital's police force remains "in remarkably good shape," there is an increasing personnel shortage, as "larger numbers of officers self-isolate due to the use of contact tracing."

London Mayor Sadiq Khan declared "a major incident" across the city on January 8, after the number of Covid-19 cases exceeded 1,000 per 100,000 people.

"The stark reality is that we will run out of beds for patients in the next couple of weeks unless the spread of the virus slows down drastically," the mayor said.

A new lockdown was imposed in England and Scotland just days after New Year's Eve and only a matter of weeks after the authorities launched a nationwide immunization campaign using the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. People can be fined up to £6,400 ($8,670) for breaking Covid-19 restrictions in England.

A few dozen maskless protesters gathered for an anti-lockdown march in London over the weekend. The rally was dispersed by police, and 12 people were arrested.

Britain's most senior police officer today said she has 'no interest in interrupting family Christmas dinners' to catch coronavirus rule-breakers as Matt Hancock suggested people will still be banned from hugging their relatives.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick said 'the police have lots of other things to be doing' and she will not be 'encouraging my people to be barging through people's doors or knocking on people's doors'.

However, she warned officers will be prepared to intervene if they are made aware of flagrant breaches of the restrictions which are 'causing lots of concerns with the neighbours'. Her comments came as Mr Hancock poured cold water on the prospect of a major loosening of curbs over the festive period as he said he wants a UK-wide set of rules 'if at all possible'.

The Health Secretary said negotiations are ongoing between the four home nations as they try to hammer out proposals which would allow people to travel to see their family.

But there is likely to be an uphill battle to agree terms given the dramatically different lockdown approaches which have been taken by England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in recent months.

There had been hopes of a massive easing of draconian restrictions to allow people to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones.

But Mr Hancock dampened those hopes as he said 'it of course won't be like a normal Christmas' and 'there will have to be rules in place'.

He also insisted people will still be required to adhere to social distancing regardless of what other measures may be changed.

Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter, a leading statistician at the University of Cambridge, said any easing of rules will undoubtedly come with extensive Government guidance which he suggested could include a ban on singing as he also joked: 'Maybe they will try to make a rule against family rows at Christmas.'

It came as Office for National Statistics data showed England's coronavirus outbreak slowed down in the first full week of the national lockdown, with daily infections dropping from 47,700 to 38,900.

The numbers showed there was an 18 per cent decline in the number of people infected with the virus between November 8 and November 14. The ONS said the rate of new infections 'appears to have levelled off in the most recent week' but that there are now 'substantial differences' between different regions.

Police in London were seen standing by and watching as hundreds of Black Lives Matter protesters gathered in apparent violation of the city's China virus restrictions, despite forcibly cracking down on other protests over the weekend.

On Sunday, hundreds of BLM activists took to the streets of London to denounce police brutality and to stand in 'solidarity' with the #EndSars movement in Nigeria.

In a Breitbart London exclusive video, police were filmed standing by as the crowds gathered in the British capital. Police presence was also very light in comparison to what was witnessed at an anti-lockdown march held the day before, on Saturday.

The BLM protesters amassed by Marble Arch in Hyde Park in the early afternoon, before marching through Oxford Circus to the Nigerian High Commission, Scotland Yard, and finally congregating Parliament Square.

Outside Scotland Yard - the home of the city's police force - an activist told the crowd that the police are "racist" and that they don't care about the lives of black people.

"Anywhere we go, can't lie, we are going to face police brutality. And we have to remember, we speak about the U.S., right? But we need to speak about this country and the brutalities they put upon us," she said.

"The UK is not innocent at all guys, not innocent at all," she concluded.

Later in the protest, another activist was filmed in a Breitbart London video calling for black people to continue mass gatherings and urging them to protest and speak for their "skin colour".

He went on to claim that black people "built the West", arguing that the only reason British cities like Bristol are flourishing is because of colonialism.

In contrast to the lax policing of the BLM rally on Sunday, riot police in London were seen using their batons against anti-lockdown protesters on Saturday.

Following the introduction of Tier 2 lockdown restrictions - which prohibit Londoners from mixing with people from other households indoors, in addition to the already in place ban on gatherings of more than six people and a city-wide 10 pm curfew on bars and restaurants - anti-lockdown protesters took to the streets in rebellion against the limits on their liberties.

Police confronted the StandUpX 'March for Freedom' protesters, knocking a man to the ground as they shouted "stay the f*** back" according to The Mirror.

On Friday evening, police were also seen arresting anti-lockdown protesters and revellers for gathering in the late-night London hotspot Soho.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist, the police force's lead coronavirus officer criticised the "dangerous and reckless breaches of the regulations".

"We will not hesitate to take action against those individuals or businesses who put people at risk," Twist said.

The disparity in policing seen at anti-lockdown protests compared to BLM marches in the city has been longstanding, with Metropolitan Police commissioner, Cressida Dick, admitting that the police took a hands-off approach to BLM protests out of fear of sparking "serious disorder".

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has slammed the government's new "draconian" lockdown laws, saying that it is hard to justify law-abiding citizens following the new rules when police fail to stop protests and illegal raves.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Wednesday a ban on public and private get-togethers of more than six people in England after a rise in the number of coronavirus cases. The government is also reportedly considering a nationwide curfew.

Mr Farage may be right to point out the hypocrisy of threatening to police free, law-abiding Britons after months of authorities failing to crack down on far-left Antifa and Marxist Black Lives Matter protests, so-called 'street parties', and illegal raves.

The double standards were evident in the treatment of two protests in the last weekend of May, where on the Saturday, London's Metropolitan Police Service arrested peaceful, anti-lockdown protesters at Speakers' Corner - a site hallowed in British free speech advocacy. On the Sunday, Antifa and BLM protesters flooded the city, with little intervention from the police.

Despite several weekends of violent and destructive Black Lives Matter protests, the police admitted that the events were "unlawful" under coronavirus regulations, but effectively did nothing - because they feared massive civil unrest.

In the first week of June, the Met's Commissioner Cressida Dick admitted: "Judgments, have been made, that people are out in such numbers, feeling so strongly, and are refusing to disperse when asked, that the officers have formed the view that if they were to try at that stage, with those sorts of numbers, to enforce en masse, we probably would have ended up with very serious disorder and a bad situation, a difficult situation, a challenging situation for everybody, turning into a violent situation."

Home Secretary Priti Patel warned at the end of June that the mass gatherings could lead to a spike in cases and "another wave" - the alleged impending 'second wave' that ordinary Britons are set to pay for from next week.

In late August, the government approved measures that would see those who organise mass illegal gatherings be handed a £10,000 fine. However, police were forced to drop an investigation into 'community activist' Ken Hinds on August 28th for his part in organising the BLM-associated Million People March, because as a political protest, according to The Guardian, the far-left demonstration was exempt.

The Million People March went ahead on the 30th, while on the same day Piers Corbyn, the brother of former Labour leader Jeremy, was fined £10,000 for organising an anti-lockdown demonstration.

Meanwhile, police across the country have struggled to stop illegal "quarantine raves", where there have been reports of stabbings, killings, and rape. In London in particular, the Met has been attacked while trying to disperse what the mainstream media referred to as "street parties" in parts of the capital's neighbourhoods.

Third Night of London 'Street Party' Riots: Police Seize Firearm, Attacked with Glass Bottles

A firearm was seized and police were attacked with glass bottles in a third night of "street parties" turned riots in London - as Mayor Sadiq Khan announced the Metropolitan Police faces budget cuts.

For the third straight night, chaos and clashes with police were witnessed as people took to the streets of London in street gatherings that are still illegal under the coronavirus lockdown regulation.

Footage shared on social media showed officers being pelted by glass bottles as they tried to disperse a large crowd that had gathered on Harrow Road in West London.

In East London, meanwhile, police responded to reports that a large crowd had converged on the streets of Newham "who were setting up a sound system". The Newham police said that one man was arrested and a firearm was seized.

After police broke up the rave in Harrow Road another "street party" popped up in Maida Vale, where some 100 police were required to break up the gathering.

"[Police] trying to engage and persuade those attending to disperse, but some bottles and other objects have been thrown at officers," Sky News reported.

The riots come as the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, Dame Cressida Dick, revealed that in the past three weeks alone some 140 officers have been injured while policing Black Lives Matter protests and the past three nights of rioting.

Some have suggested that the increased willingness to attack police officers may be a result of the lax attitude law enforcement has taken towards policing Black Lives Matter protests across the country and some officers kneeling to protesters undermining their authority.

Big Brother UK: Met Police Chief Calls for Artificial Intelligence and Facial Recognition to Monitor Citizens

The commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is arguing for increased surveillance measures in the United Kingdom, including facial recognition, to combat crime and terrorism, however, critics fear the increased capabilities will negatively impact civil liberties.

Dame Cressida Dick, the nation's top law enforcement officer, shot back at critics of the new facial recognition system implemented by the MPS as "ill-informed", arguing that the use of facial recognition systems are a price worth paying to ensure the safety of the public, saying that it is preferable to "a knife through the chest".

"It is for critics to justify to the victims of those crimes why police should not use tech lawfully and proportionally to catch criminals who caused the victims real harm. It is not for me and the police to decide where the boundary lies between security and privacy, though I do think it is right for us to contribute to the debate," Cressida Dick said per The Times.

"In an age of Twitter and Instagram and Facebook, concern about my image and that of my fellow law-abiding citizens passing through LFR (live facial recognition) and not being stored, feels much, much, much smaller than my and the public's vital expectation to be kept safe from a knife through the chest," Dick added.

Last week, the Metropolitan Police began using facial recognition cameras in Westminster, running on NeoFace, a system that creates a list of suspected criminals and scans the faces of pedestrians for possible matches, notifying the police in the area if there is a match. The police say that faces are only stored for 31 days unless a person is arrested.

The commissioner also called for new legislation to allow police to use artificial intelligence including speech analytic software, translation technology for officers to be able to handle the numerous languages spoken in London and "virtual and augmented reality" to assist officers in the field, reports the Evening Standard.

In response to the introduction of facial recognition, the civil liberties group, Big Brother Watch (BBW) called for the "undemocratic expansion of the surveillance state" to be reversed.

"It's alarming to see biometric mass surveillance being rolled out in London. Never before have citizens been subjected to identity checks without suspicion, let alone on a mass scale," the group said in a statement.

"All the evidence shows this tech makes us less free and no safer. The 93% misidentification rate poses a serious threat to innocent members of the public. The cost to our liberties, let alone the public purse, is unacceptably high. We're appalled that city mayor Sadiq Khan has approved such useless, dangerous & authoritarian surveillance for London," Big Brother Watch added.

The use of facial recognition systems has become widespread in communist China, which has installed over 200 million surveillance cameras across the country as a part of its so-called 'Skynet' system. In November, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced that mobile phone providers will be required to implement facial scans of users, in order to further increase control on its already heavily policed internet.

A MAN has been knifed to death in the third brutal murder on London's streets in just 24 hours.

The man's stabbing death comes after two teens were killed within 12 minutes in gun and knife attacks just 12 miles apart in Lawless London yesterday.

The teens became the 57th and 58th murders in the capital so far this year - and the man killed today will be the 59th if a murder probe is confirmed.

Three men were also stabbed in a separate attack outside a Tube station in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Today the Metropolitan Police were again scrambled to a murder scene when a man in his 30s was stabbed to death on Alton Street in Tower Hamlets, East London, at 2.37pm.

Witness David told The Sun Online he had gone out to get a paper - coming back ten minutes later to see the helicopter.

He said: "I saw them working on him for about three quarters of an hour then they covered him with a sheet."

Detectives are still searching for the suspects after the attack.

It comes after a grim day on London's streets yesterday first saw an 18-year-old knifed to death in Tooting, South West London.

Six men - aged between 16 and 19 - have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
'BODY ON THE FLOOR'

Marina Paget, 22, who lives in the area, said: "I walked past at 2.30pm and I didn't see anything, but when I came back from work at 5.30pm it was all going on.

"I walked past I saw what looked like the body on the floor covered in a bag and there were 50 people around, loads of people, two or three ambulances."

Just 12 minutes later a 19-year-old man was found with critical injuries after being shot in a car park in Plumstead, South East London. He died at the scene a short while later.

Three boys - two aged 16 one 17 - have been arrested on suspicion of murder, along with a 17-year-old girl.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was "sickened" following the deaths of the two teenage boys.

He said: "Our overstretched police are working around the clock to keep Londoners safe. They need our support to end this scourge of violence."

At around 3.22am on Saturday, police were called to Bedford Road following reports of a fight near Clapham North Tube station.

Three men were found with stab and slash injuries.

Four men were arrested in connection with the incident - two for violent disorder, one accused of carrying a bladed instrument and another for possession of a Taser - and have been taken into custody at a south London police station.
HEARTBREAKING

London has been in the grips of a scourge of violence this year - with 2018 the bloodiest year in almost a decade.

The number of homicides, including murder and manslaughter, have risen from 649 to 730 - an increase of 14 per cent.

There were 1,299 stabbings in London up to the end of April, according to official statistics from the Met Police.

Before Friday, there had been at least 56 murder investigations in the capital this year, with 34 of them fatal stabbings.

Figures last month revealed five young people are attacked with a knife every day in London and Mr Khan warned it could take a "decade" to turn back the tide of violent crime.

However Met Police chief Cressida Dick recently hailed a reduction in stabbings of under-25s after more stop and searches.

After the horror 24 hours, Scotland Yard said locals can expect an enhanced police presence near the crime scenes.

Tooting MP Rosena Allin-Khan said the murder on Deeside Road was "heartbreaking" and "absolutely tragic".

"My heart goes out to the family of this victim after this absolutely tragic incident," she wrote on Twitter.

"I spoke at length with people on the Aboyne Estate tonight, anyone with concerns can contact me - I'm here to listen.

"Sending love to the Tooting family tonight - this is heartbreaking."

I've been thinking about bio-engineering and cloning after seeing last night the image of Maggie Nixon last Nov. when we thought she was already dead.
The resemblance to "Sunshine" from W. Hollywood[?] who died in the suspiecious plane crash is just too close
The mole on the chin distinguishes one from the other. Twins [and I would assume clones] often have birth marks that do not match.
The young woman "Nixon" has a strange blank look on her face.
There should a large bun of images collected last night? For comparisons?
If a specific "look" on children is important; and they are so valuable - said to be traded as currency; doesn't it follow that they would be cloning and breeding them? Isn' that what Nazi Scientist Mengele was obsessed with? Twins and Breeding?

Police have begun an investigation into allegations of antisemitic hate crimes within the Labour Party.

The investigation relates to a dossier handed to Met Police commissioner Cressida Dick by LBC Radio in September.

In a statement on Friday, Scotland Yard said: "The complainant alleged that the documentation included evidence of antisemitic hate crimes.

"The contents have been examined by specialist officers. A criminal investigation has commenced into some of the allegations within the documentation.

"Early investigative advice is being sought from the Crown Prosecution Service."

Sky News understands Labour has yet to be contacted by Scotland Yard and the party do not know the full nature and extent of the allegations.

A spokesperson: "The Labour Party has a robust system for investigating complaints of alleged breaches of Labour Party rules by its members.

"Where someone feels they have been a victim of crime, they should report it to the police in the usual way."

On 4 September, LBC Radio reported the dossier included 45 allegations of antisemitism in total.

Ms Dick told the station at the time: "I will pass this to my experts to deal with. We'll see if a crime has been committed."

Later the same day, Labour's ruling body agreed to adopt an international definition of antisemitism in full, including its examples, as the party sought to move on from a damaging summer-long scandal.

Met boss Sir Craig Mackey is receiving a massive backlash from police veterans and serving officers for his decision to stay locked in his car and watch while PC Keith Palmer was murdered by a radical Islamic terrorist during the Westminster attack in 2017.

Sir Craig, who was Acting Commissioner for London's Metropolitan Police when Khalid Masood mowed down several pedestrians outside Parliament before attacking the unarmed police officer with two carving knives at the gates, is currently Deputy Commissioner under Cressida Dick - but is set to retire with a substantial pension under his belt in December 2018.

He told an inquest investigating the attack he was present while it was carried out, having just been in a meeting with then-policing minister Brandon Lewis - but stayed in his car with the doors locked and watched it unfold through the window, as he had "no protective equipment, no radio, [and] two colleagues with me who [were] quite distressed".

UKIP London Assembly member Peter Whittle raked Britain's top police officer Cressida Dick over the coals for her "mealy-mouthed" description of radical Islamic terrorists as "so-called Islamist-inspired".

Intervening in the London Assembly questions and answers session as there was some suggestion in the chamber that the English Defence League street protest organisation founded - but now abandoned - by Tommy Robinson might be a terrorist outfit, Mr Whitte said: "Whether you agreee with them or not, and I don't, if you start talking about people like the EDL in terms of terrorism, I think you're on to a real problem... You've got to be careful when you start saying people are terrorists."

Mr Whittle used this intervention as a launchpad to question the use of terminology by the establishment and, in particular, Commissioner Dick herself, asking: "You're talking about 'right-wing' groups... 'extreme right-wing', you have no problem saying that - but then you go on to say 'so-called Islamist-inspired'. Why are you mealy-mouthed?"

"The guy who, for example, last year, ran into Westminster and killed what, five people with his car, was very clear: he was waging jihad. Most of these people have been very, very clear - why do you have to say 'so-called Islamists'?" he demanded.

The Metropolitan Police chief, flustered, attempted to justify herself in terms of mollifying certain groups: "I think as a senior police officer it's important for me, obviously, not to be mealy-mouthed, but equally not to randomly upset people who might get upset," she said - not quite able to bring herself to say who these people may be.

"The majority of people carrying out terrorist attacks, 90 percent are Islam-inspired. We might not like it, you might not like to say it, but it is the case - why do you say things like 'so-called Islamists'? You're the Commissioner," Whittle fired back.

"Because, I... Chair, I really don't think we should get into a long conversation about this, not least because you want to push on," the policewoman spluttered, appealing to the chairman to save her, without immediate success.

"Because, I, ha... In the name of Islam is very different from Islamist for a start. We could get into a really long semantic conversation here, Peter," she said to the UKIP assembly member, somewhat unintelligibly.

Robinson's supporters broke into applause as Lord Burnett announced the decision, prompting the judge to order "silence."

In a summary of the judgement the trio of judges wrote: "Once the appellant had removed the video from Facebook, there was no longer sufficient urgency to justify immediate proceedings."

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment in May for breaching reporting restrictions relating to an ongoing trial.

The self-styled journalist live-streamed footage from outside the courthouse on Facebook, and the video was watched some 250,000 times.

A further three months were added to his imprisonment for breaching a previous suspended sentence related to an incident at Canterbury Crown Court in May 2017.

Fearing protests, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick warned that added security measures were in place around the courthouse.

Dick told the Independent: "We'll see where the Free Tommy Robinson supporters go next and what they're thinking next - it is a large set of people at the moment.

The government was at great pains to try and find any harm that had come from the releases yet they couldn't find one person that had been harmed so came to the conclusion themselves that no harm had been done."

She continues: "People always wonder how I do such a risky job but it is living out my ideals. In many ways it is an incredibly exciting and privileged existence. I can't imagine doing anything else."
