Listen, the Iranians probably cannot make too large of a balloon, so they daisy chain them. What advantage does that offer?
1. larger than any single one
2. Stealth capabilities scattering radar
3. Many can be used for lift while a few are used to fight wind and alter direction
4. No single point failure
5. Larger payloads
6. Ability to deploy multiple drones from above
7. Drones are faster with gravity
8. Easier to monitor one monolith
9. Multiple cameras
10. More firepower

I am 100% sure, this is what they are seeing. I know the Iranians watch the board as the Ayatollah had once commented on my posts, 2 weeks before he passed, saying that there was a lot that the Muslims can learn from the Christian Brothers and sisters. Why not make the high altitude balloons look like they are ETs as a psyop? Christian Brothers asset sale likely to fall short of what the order owes in abuse compensation

A lawyer representing multiple victims of child sexual abuse at Christian Brothers institutions says the order appears to be trying to "squib" on compensation payments.

The Congregation of Christian Brothers Oceania Province revealed yesterday it was seeking to sell off its remaining assets to pay abuse victims, who would become creditors.

Christian Brothers said the order would "come to an end" at the conclusion of the asset sale, although schools established by the order would be unaffected.

It said its assets were valued at around $216 million, and comprised about 36 properties around Australia.

Christian Brothers said the money raised from the sale of its assets would not be enough to pay the full amount of compensation that victims of abuse at its institutions would be entitled to now and into the future.

Schools founded by Christian Brothers, including St Mary's College in Melbourne, would not be subject to the asset sale as they are owned by a separate entity, Edmund Rice Education Australia.

Christian Brothers outlined its asset sale plan in a statement, saying the scheme had to be approved by 50 per cent of creditors.

"We accept that we have now reached a pivotal moment facing a very difficult financial position, and consequently the proposed scheme is the most responsible course of action," it said.

"The creditors eligible to participate in the proposed scheme will include the victims and survivors of abuse experienced in our facilities (including those who have not yet come forward).

"Their interests, as well as all those of all our other creditors, remain our highest priority."

Today We Remember The Holodomor
In 1932 and 1933, 7 Million (estimated) Ukrainians were massacred by genocidal famine ordered by the Bolshevik government. Many were Christians. Students do not learn about the Holodomor in middle school, high school, or even college. There aren't dozens of major Hollywood films depicting the horrific events that took place. Our politicians aren't referencing the Holodomor every other day and visiting Holodomor Museums. If you ask any random American on the street about the Holodomor they will have no idea what it is. Why is this?
American students grow up inundated with Holocaust movies, books, and education from grade school on up. American states like Florida even pass laws mandating Holocaust education
for our children. So why are we not learning about the Holodomor?
Perhaps even worse: why is Holodomor Denial allowed while if you question any part of the Holocaust narrative you could land in jail
across many European countries.
In particular why are prominent members of the Jewish community, who are supposed to know the realities of genocide in the 20th century, among some of the most prominent Holodomor denialists?

Christians must never forget the genocide of millions of our Christian Brothers and sisters. We must hold to account those who seek to deny, hide, or downplay this atrocity. We must educate our children about the horrors of what happened and we must not be afraid to "offend" people in the process of discussing the truth about these important matters. Objective truth is only offensive to those who hate and wish to hide it.

I hope you're getting the point without the need for further examples, which are endless thanks to the intersectional constellation and lots of evil history. The totalitarians Elect themselves to representative of "the people" or group because they are Woke (Gnostic Elect).
They use this Elect status to claim to uniquely speak on behalf of "the people" or group and, more importantly, to externalize all criticism onto the group itself so as to inflame the group and its sympathizers to support their "representative" power base.
This is a simple trick that only requires a little bit of learned discernment to spot and to stop falling for, or indeed to call out. It's a very common trick in all nasty and totalitarian politics, so it's worthwhile to get familiar with it and learn to resist it.

More than 200 Christian leaders sign letter calling for cease-fire in Gaza

The letter comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits the U.S., where he is expected to address Congress on Wednesday and meet with President Joe Biden on Thursday.

More than 200 Christian leaders from an array of traditions have signed a letter calling for a permanent cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war and the release of hostages taken by Hamas, as well as a list of other measures aimed at providing relief in Gaza.

"We speak out as Christian leaders with a deep concern for the common good for all affected by war and conflict without exception," reads the letter, which was organized by Churches for Middle East Peace, a coalition of Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox churches based in Washington.

"We speak with urgency. We speak in a spirit of peace. We speak because we are deeply inspired by the courageous and selfless commitment of our Palestinian Christian Brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, who suffer alongside their Muslim and Jewish neighbors and remain resolutely determined to help bring about a just and dignified future for all inhabitants of these lands."

Besides a cease-fire and the return of hostages, the letter goes on to call for "the release of Palestinian prisoners held without due process," as well as a free flow of humanitarian aid and a halt on shipping arms into the region.

"Without decisive action now, the consequences of this drift to deeper, broader, and more entrenched conflict will be more destruction and loss of innocent lives," the authors said. "It is time for the international community, as well as Israeli, Palestinian, and regional decision makers, to act. Our common humanity demands it."

The letter comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits the U.S., where he is expected to address Congress on Wednesday (July 24) and meet with President Joe Biden on Thursday. A cover letter from CMEP addressed to Biden implores him to use Netanyahu's visit to annul "monetary and diplomatic cover for Israel to continue its military assault on the people of Gaza."

Among the signers of the letter were Roman Catholic Cardinal Alvaro Ramazzini, bishop of Huehuetenango in Guatemala, and Bishops Steven Biegler of the Diocese of Cheynne in Wyoming, Stephen Lowe of the Diocese of Auckland in New Zealand, Christian Carlassare of the Diocese of Rumbek in South Sudan and Coffi Roger Anoumou of the Diocese of Lokossa in Benin.

The presidents of the Maryknoll Sisters and the Sisters of St. Joseph Philadelphia, both orders of nuns, also signed.

Among the Protestants signing the letter were the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, bishops of the United Methodist Church, the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, Community of Christ, the Church of England and the Anglican Church of Sri Lanka.

In addition, the stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the general secretary of the Reformed Church in America, a conference minister in the United Church of Christ and the clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) signed it.

The heads of the National Council of Churches, Pax Christi Korea, the Asian American Christian Collaborative and The Witness, A Black Christian Collective, also signed the letter.

The letter warned that the conflict has the potential to expand into the surrounding region, including the possibility of full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah. It also cautioned that as nonviolent resistance to decades of occupation is continuously met with "unjustified violence," individuals will increasingly turn to armed resistance.

"The window for constructive dialogue between combatant parties is rapidly closing. It will be replaced by more violence and further erosion of hope and trust," said the letter.

In Monitoring Sex Abuse of Children, Apple Is Caught Between Safety and Privacy

SAN FRANCISCO - In 2021, Apple was embroiled in controversy over a plan to scan iPhones for child sexual abuse materials. Privacy experts warned that governments could abuse the system, and the backlash was so severe that Apple eventually abandoned the plan.

Two years later, Apple is facing criticism from child safety crusaders and activist investors who are calling on the company to do more to protect children from online abuse.

A child advocacy group, Heat Initiative, has raised $2 million for a new national advertising campaign calling on Apple to detect, report and remove child sexual abuse materials from iCloud, its cloud storage platform.

Next week, the group will release digital advertisements on websites popular with policymakers in Washington, such as Politico. It will also put up posters across San Francisco and New York that say: "Child sexual abuse material is stored on iCloud. Apple allows it."

The criticism speaks to a predicament that has dogged Apple for years. The company has made protecting privacy a central part of its iPhone pitch to consumers. But that promise of security has helped make its services and devices, 2 billion of which are in use, useful tools for sharing child sexual abuse imagery.

The company is caught between child safety groups, which want it to do more to stop the spread of such materials, and privacy experts, who want it to maintain the promise of secure devices.

A group of two dozen investors with nearly $1 trillion in assets under management have also called on Apple to publicly report the number of abusive images that it catches across its devices and services.

Two investors - Degroof Petercam, a Belgian asset manager, and Christian Brothers Investment Services, a Catholic investment firm - will submit a shareholder proposal this month that would require Apple to provide a detailed report on how effective its safety tools are at protecting children.

"Apple seems stuck between privacy and action," said Matthew Welch, an investment specialist at Degroof Petercam. "We thought a proposal would wake up management and get them to take this more seriously."

Apple has been quick to respond to child safety advocates. In early August, its privacy executives met with the group of investors, Welch said. Then, on Thursday, the company responded to an email from the Heat Initiative with a letter that defended its decision not to scan iCloud. It shared the correspondence with Wired, a technology publication.

In Apple's letter, Erik Neuenschwander, director for user privacy and child safety, said the company had concluded that "it was not practically possible" to scan iCloud photos without "imperiling the security and privacy of our users."

"Scanning for one type of content, for instance, opens the door for bulk surveillance and could create a desire to search other encrypted messaging systems," Neuenschwander said.

Apple, he added, has created a new default feature for all child accounts that intervenes with a warning if they receive or try to send nude images. It's designed to prevent the creation of new child sexual abuse material and limit the risk of predators coercing and blackmailing children for money or nude images. It has made those tools available to app developers as well.

In 2021, Apple said it would use technology called image hashes to spot abusive material on iPhones and in iCloud.

But the company failed to communicate that plan broadly with privacy experts, intensifying their skepticism and fueling concern that governments could abuse the technology, said Alex Stamos, director of the Stanford Internet Observatory at the Cyber Policy Center, who opposed the idea.

Last year, the company discreetly abandoned its plan to scan iCloud, catching child safety groups by surprise.

Apple has won praise from both privacy and child safety groups for its efforts to blunt the creation of new nude images on iMessage and other services. But Stamos, who applauded the company's decision not to scan iPhones, said it could do more to stop people from sharing problematic images in the cloud.

"You can have privacy if you store something for yourself, but if you share something with someone else, you don't get the same privacy," Stamos said.

Governments around the world are putting pressure on Apple to take action. Last year, eSafety Commissioner in Australia issued a report criticizing Apple and Microsoft for failing to do more to proactively police their services for abusive material.

Former Nudgee College principal Stephen McLaughlin attended school celebration despite allegations of child sexual abuse

A Christian Brother who was suspected by police of being a paedophile was able to attend a birthday party at exclusive Brisbane private school St Joseph's Nudgee College, despite his order being in negotiations to pay a settlement to one of his alleged victims.

Former college headmaster Stephen David McLaughlin, who had been the subject of unproven child abuse allegations in the 1990s and early 2000s, was photographed at the celebration for a former staff member at the school on May 31, 2017.

Some students from the college were present at an official welcome prior to the function that was then attended by McLaughlin, who had been boarding master at the school in the early 1980s before becoming College headmaster in 1988 and then leader of the Brother's Xavier province in 1996.

Nicknamed Stumpy by students, McLaughlin was investigated in the late 1990s and 2000s and in one case committed for trial on indecent dealing charges, but was never convicted in relation to allegations made by four alleged child abuse victims.

Some of the allegations revolved around the then Brother taking young children, often from single-parent families, to stay with him alone in Brisbane motels.

Investigating police found payment records showing McLaughlin paid for the motel stays using his credit card.

Two of the complainants had siblings who had attended Nudgee College.

At the time, McLaughlin denied all allegations and his legal team argued the complainants were unreliable and their statements contradictory.

But in early 2017, Brisbane solicitor Peter Deed, acting on behalf of one complainant from the late 1990s, approached the Christian Brothers seeking compensation for his client.

The complainant alleged that when he was a 15-year-old schoolboy in Brisbane he had been introduced to McLaughlin by self-confessed child molester and Nudgee old boy Dennis Norman Douglas in 1997, according to legal documents sighted by the ABC.

ATHENS (Reuters) -An elderly Greek Orthodox priest shouted "Pope, you are a heretic" as Pope Francis was entering the Orthodox Archbishopric in Athens on Saturday and was taken away by police, a reminder of the lingering distrust between the two divided churches.

Video showed the man, who was dressed in black robes and black hat and had a long white beard, shouting the words in Greek outside the building before police bundled him away.

Witnesses said he shouted loud enough for the pope to hear the commotion. The man appeared to have fallen while being taken away and was lifted up by police.

Francis arrived in Greece on Saturday for a three-day visit that Greek Catholics hope will bring the Eastern and Western churches closer together.

Christianity split into the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches in 1054 in what is referred to as the Great Schism, and for centuries relations were rocky.

In his address to the archbishop, Beatitude Ieronymos II, Francis asked forgiveness in the name of the Roman Catholic Church for its part in the historical wrongs that led to the breakup.

"Tragically, in later times we grew apart. Worldly concerns poisoned us, weeds of suspicion increased our distance and we ceased to nurture communion," Francis told Ieronymos, whom he met during his first trip to Greece in 2016.

"I feel the need to ask anew for the forgiveness of God and of our Brothers and sisters for the mistakes committed by many Catholics," Francis said.

Pope John Paul II first asked forgiveness for the Catholic role in the break-up when he visited Greece in 2001.

Catholics and Orthodox have been involved in dialogue aimed at eventual reunion for decades and cooperate in many social initiatives but the two sides are still far apart theologically.

"We believe you have the courage and the sincerity to examine the failures and omissions of your fathers," Ieronymos told Francis. "Between those who want to be called Christian Brothers, the best language is, and always will be, honesty."

This development brings members of the Sackler family, some of whom own Purdue Pharma and served on the company's board of directors, a step closer to winning immunity from future opioid lawsuits.

Catholic workers accused of sexual abuse sometimes start over in the United States after getting special treatment from justice officials abroad.

Four religious Brothers from one rural Canadian province, for instance, are living free in this country.

Two of the men are fugitiveswhom Canadian prosecutors have never tried to bring back for trial.A prosecutor who opposed one man's extradition became his attorney in a lawsuit over the alleged abuse.

The other two are convicts. One was let out of prison unusually early. The other was sentenced to house arrest butallowed to move to New York- where no one has the authority to supervise him - and is working in lay ministry.

U.S. authorities are investigating, based on The Dallas Morning News' findings.

"We're concerned about these matters," said Jamie Zuieback, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman in Washington, D.C. "We're looking into what avenues can be pursued."

Some officials in Canada are upset, too. Vic Toews, a Parliament member who speaks for the Conservative Party on crime issues, is seeking a federal inquiry on his side of the border. He said the cases undermine his country's policy of aggressively combating child molestation.

Mr. Toews, a former prosecutor, said leaving the men free in the United States "gives them another opportunity to abuse."

The News' findings are part of a yearlong investigation intohow Catholic priests and other church workers accused of sexual abuse move from country to country.Religious leaders aren't the only ones helping them - justice officials, through direct involvement or inaction, sometimes do, too.

The four Canadian cases began in Newfoundland and Labrador, a sprawling province of about a half-million people in the easternmost part of the nation.

Anorphanagein the province was the scene ofone of the country's worst clergy abuse scandals,which authorities and church leaderscovered upwhen allegations first surfaced in the 1970s. Two top justice officials, for example, cut a deal with the Catholic order that ran the Mount Cashel orphanage. Two accused workers left Newfoundland and faced no charges, despite statements that police had taken from several victims.

The complaints resurfaced in the late 1980s, causing public outrage and leading to a government inquiry that documented the church-state collusion. Newfoundland's justice system later admitted it "failed in its responsibilities to these children" and convicted about a dozen members of the order, theChristian Brothers of Ireland in Canada.

Past still swirls

Controversy over the now-demolished Mount Cashel orphanage continues to this day. More than 80 victims recently won payments from the Christian Brothers' assets, but they had to surrender their right to sue Newfoundland's government.

And the final Mount Cashel prosecution ended a few months ago with special consideration for the guilty party.

Justice Seamus O'Reganrejected prosecutors' recommendation of prison time and gave John Evangelist Murphy 20 months of house arrest for fondling four boys in the 1950s. Then the judge took the extraordinary step ofletting him return to upstate New York,where he had lived for years before he was extradited for trial.

Had Mr. Murphy served his sentence in Newfoundland, he would have been required to wear an electronic monitor and been subject to random visits by authorities and drug testing.

New York authorities said they had no standing to supervise him, and a top Newfoundland corrections official conceded that little could be done to enforce the sentence.

"Quite frankly, we believe the court may have exceeded its jurisdiction," said Marvin McNutt, head of the Division of Corrections and Community Services in Newfoundland.

Justice O'Regansaid it would be inappropriate for him to comment on the sentence. In court, he cited Mr. Murphy's age and "exemplary lifestyle" since leaving Mount Cashel as reasons for his decision.

The Final Report: Religious Institutions (FRRI) 2017 and the unredacted part of the report reveals the dark world of child sexual abuse in the Christian establishment.

The un-reacted part of the report has three parts: Part 1 details case studies of child abuse in five Catholic institutions in Ballarat (Australia). These include St Joseph's Home, St Alipius Primary School, St Alipius Parish, St Patrick's College, and St Patrick's Christian Brothers Boys Primary School and the public hearing thereof. Part 2 details the case of Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne and its public hearing and Part 3 is about the response of the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat and other Catholic Church authorities in Ballarat to allegations of child sexual abuse against clergy, and that of the Congregation of Christian Brothers (Christian Brothers). The three un-redacted versions included: Un-redacted Report of Case Study No. 28: Catholic Church authorities in Ballarat (535 pages), Un-redacted Report of Case Study No. 35: Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne (289 pages), and Un-redacted Volume 16, Religious institutions Book 2 which focussed on Catholic institutions generally (936 pages).

Horror stories of child sexual abuse
The FRRI (2017) reveals the dirty world of child sexual abuse inside Christian institutions.

One of the witnesses, for example, told the Commission: ''The sexual abuse was horrific. It was painful, it was traumatic. It was terrible. And the fact that it happened twice was inconceivable. But it was just a chapter. For me the whole experience I had in that place was of abuse at any stage, physical abuse, beatings, indiscriminate beatings. I was so traumatised. I was so scared'' (FRRI 2017:84).

In the Christian Brothers case, survivors narrated how it brought back memories of their childhood sexual abuse, leaving them feeling disempowered. One survivor told the Commission: ''when the two Brothers entered the room I cringed with fear. Even though I was an adult man ... the fear from my childhood just came flooding back to me when I saw them. One of them was just looking at me and I thought to myself, 'Gee, I have completely lost' (FRRI 2017:455).

Yet another survivor told ''I had a number of serious psychological conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, substance abuse problems'' (FRRI 2017:469).

A survivor advocate Dr Doyle has well-summarised the devastation that abused children undergo - many throughout their lives.

''The narcissistic cleric fails to grasp the devastation his sexual abuse causes his victims, their families and the church community in general. Many victims have testified that their perpetrators convinced them that the sexual activity was special because it was 'with Father'. Others have testified that the perpetrators actually intimidated and threatened them with divinely inspired retribution in this life or the next for speaking ill of a priest'' (FRRI 2017:605). Dr Robinson confirms this. '' Narcissism was one of the prominent personality 'flavours' she had encountered in priests and religious perpetrators in Australia with whom she had worked'' (FRRI 2017:605).

The healing process that the Church offers to survivors is even more traumatic. A survivor narrated ''he was 'left feeling really suicidal by the end of it'. He said, 'Even today, going to Melbourne is traumatic for me, because it reminds me of the Towards Healing process'' (FRRI 2017:438)''.

The FRRI redacted part reveals the role of Cardinal Pell - one of the highest officials of the Vatican."

"The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry has appealed for victims to continue to contact them despite the coronavirus outbreak halting public hearings for the time being.

In a video message, the chair of the Inquiry, senior judge Lady Smith, assured anyone who wished to contact the inquiry that they would remain able to do. Although face-to-face meetings have been ruled out due to ongoing coronavirus pandemic, witness support teams will continue to operate phone lines. This follows an announcement last week that planned hearings relating to child migration have been suspended indefinitely.

Staff members of the inquiry, which began in 2015, will work remotely to investigate claims and prepare for the next phase of the inquiry, focussed on boarding schools and originally scheduled to begin in July of this year. Ten new institutions from across Scotland were identified earlier this month as subject to investigation, including four young offenders institutions.

The analysis of previous case studies, relating to Catholic religious orders - the Christian Brothers, Benedictines and Marists - will continue, with the inquiries findings intended to be published as soon as possible.

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry was set up in October 2015, with the intention of raising public awareness of the abuse of children in care, providing a public forum to acknowledge the suffering of those victims, and establishing legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure abuse does not reoccur. Over the course of the Inquiry, a number of state and non-state institutions have been investigated, including the Catholic Archdiocese of Glasgow, several Catholic religious orders, the Church of Scotland, and a majority of Scotland's local authorities.

Last May the Inquiry found that children in four homes run by the Sisters of Nazareth in Aberdeen, Cardonald, Lasswade and Kilmarnock endured systematic violence and emotional abuse across 50 years, from 1933 to 1984. Lady Smith stated that the children in these homes were "deprived of the dignity, compassion and care they were entitled to" and that abuse reached levels "of the utmost depravity". The Sisters of Nazareth issued a statement thanking the inquiry for the report and expressing their "deep shame" over the abuse.

In November 2013, the AP investigated claims that the church was at fault for running sub-standard housing for orphans in Haiti after the two homes the church runs received a failing grade from the Haitian agency that monitors orphanages. About Us

We are a small Christian fellowship based in Pennsylvania (also NY, FL, & CA), united by our mutual faith and our hope in Christ. Our primary goal is to spread the Gospel to any and all who will receive it, and to find others who are of the same mind and hope as we are.

It has been almost 40 years now since we started our first orphanage in Haiti, then with only 6 children. Since then, through the grace of God, our work has prospered and grown, and we now have around 150 children in 2 houses. In addition to this, we also support many smaller Haitian orphanages through weekly food deliveries and more. In this way we are able to provide aid to hundreds of needy orphans in addition to the ones we ourselves our raising.

We finance this work through various business operations, in addition to the support we receive from our donors. We send missionaries in groups of different sizes, usually rotating every few months. We have also recently been able to get visas for some of our older children to have the opportunity to come to the U.S. for further Christian fellowship, training, and education. We are still in the process of getting this going, but some of them are now free to travel back and forth regularly, and are a really big help in the orphanages.

We also have always had an interest in expanding our work to begin a "City of Children" in the very barren Northwest region of Haiti. Water, food, medical care - everything is difficult to obtain in this desert-like area of Haiti, but there are thousands of children who need it desperately. This obviously requires A LOT of planning, funds, and manpower to even begin, but the need for this is even more urgent since the Jan.12, 2010 earthquake that devastated Port-au-Prince as well as the October 2016 Hurricane Matthew. Martha Bulus, a Nigerian Catholic woman, was going to her bridal party when she was abducted by Islamic extremists of Boko Haram. Martha and her companions were beheaded and their execution filmed. The video of the brutal murders of these 11 Christians was released on December 26 to coincide with Christmas celebrations. It is reminiscent of the images of other Christians dressed in orange jumpsuits bent on their knees on a beach, each being held by a masked, black-clad jihadist holding a knife at their throats. Their bodies were discovered in a mass grave in Libya.

A child abuse inquiry witness has told how he was raped by priests during "satanic" drink-fuelled sex parties.

Dave Sharp also described a catalogue of sexual, physical and emotional violence at St Ninian's in Falkland, Fife, between 1971 and 1975.

Mr Sharp, from Glasgow, said the abuse had left him with "lifelong trauma".

The independent Scottish Child Abuse inquiry is looking in detail at historical abuse of children in residential care.

Mr Sharp urged inquiry chairwoman Lady Smith, to piece together the "jigsaw" of victims' accounts and called for a "national discussion" on the subject.

The 60-year-old, who has waived his right to anonymity, was put into care after his mother died when he was aged one.
Tied up

He stayed in several institutions before going to the Catholic-run care home in Fife.

He told how he was groomed by one of the religious Brothers, who would tell him he loved him, which "no-one had ever done" before.

The inquiry heard the then-12-year-old was later raped.

Most of the abuse was said to have taken place in the shower rooms, where the witness would be made to stand in the dark through the night as a punishment.

One attack came after he had asked about the whereabouts of a friend who had disappeared. It was later discovered the boy had taken his own life.

Mr Sharp said he was taken to the shower room by a drunken religious brother, tied-up and gagged.

Drug addiction

It was then that he found out he had a family, but he did not settle and became dependent on drugs and alcohol.

He said he struggled with a "£100-a-day" habit for up to 25 years and attempted to kill himself on numerous occasions.

Mr Sharp was married for five weeks during this period, until his wife died of natural causes.

This led to him having a "breakdown" and he was taken into hospital care, where he found religion and decided to "turn his life around".

The inquiry, before Lady Smith, continues on Tuesday.

The United Farm Workers union has been ousted from the first Napa Valley vineyards it successfully unionized more than four decades ago, a move that could further erode the union?s influence in Wine Country.
The state Agricultural Labor Relations Board on Wednesday certified the results of an election removing the UFW from representing workers at Vista Vineyard Management in St. Helena.
Of the 60 workers who voted in the June 2008 election, 39 voted against the union, 18 voted to keep it and three votes were contested, said Sam Turner, the company?s president.
?I?m glad that the workers got to decide for themselves their representation,? Turner said.
Most workers who voted against the union resented paying the UFW 2 percent of their wages, Turner said.
But UFW organizer Casimiro Alvarez said the vote is another example of big wine companies turning to contract labor forces to undermine the union founded by Cesar Chavez in the 1960s.
?In the Napa and Sonoma areas, I?m very clear the grape industry is fighting against the union,? Alvarez said. ?They are putting a lot of money to destroy the union.?

The United Farm Workers union has been ousted from the first Napa Valley vineyards it successfully unionized more than four decades ago, a move that could further erode the union?s influence in Wine Country.
The state Agricultural Labor Relations Board on Wednesday certified the results of an election removing the UFW from representing workers at Vista Vineyard Management in St. Helena.
Of the 60 workers who voted in the June 2008 election, 39 voted against the union, 18 voted to keep it and three votes were contested, said Sam Turner, the company?s president.
?I?m glad that the workers got to decide for themselves their representation,? Turner said.
Most workers who voted against the union resented paying the UFW 2 percent of their wages, Turner said.
But UFW organizer Casimiro Alvarez said the vote is another example of big wine companies turning to contract labor forces to undermine the union founded by Cesar Chavez in the 1960s.
?In the Napa and Sonoma areas, I?m very clear the grape industry is fighting against the union,? Alvarez said. ?They are putting a lot of money to destroy the union.?
