Girl accused of murdering parents identified as 'transgender' boy: report
The 15-year-old Dutch girl who allegedly stabbed her parents to death suffered from gender confusion, in the latest reported case of 'transgender' violence.
A Dutch teenage girl arrested for murdering her parents had a history of gender confusion, to the point of identifying herself as a boy as well as a dog.
The Hungarian Conservative reports that the couple identified so far only as Johan and Mathilda were found stabbed to death in their Meerstad home after their 15-year-old daughter reportedly sent photos of their bodies to classmates using WhatsApp. Police also found the family's golden retriever with stab wounds, but not killed. (It is also speculated, but not confirmed, that she injured her family's pet cat on a previous occasion.)
Dutch media interviews with classmates and neighbors paint a picture of a girl long struggling with mental issues. She reportedly wanted to be identified as a boy before deciding to identify as and act like a dog, wearing fake ears and tail as she would "crawl around on all fours and bark while running through the school corridors," running through her neighborhood late at night, sitting on fences, and hiding in bushes.
Authorities have not yet commented on the girl's mental state or publicly confirmed a motive, but many horrified observers have suggested the crime is yet another consequence of affirming youth gender confusion rather than addressing the mental issues it signifies, thereby allowing the latter to fester.
"Giving rage-inducing hormones to mentally ill people obviously greatly increases risk of murder and suicide," tech mogul Elon Musk commented.
A large body of evidence shows that "affirming" gender confusion carries serious harms, especially when done with impressionable children who lack the mental development, emotional maturity, and life experience to consider the long-term ramifications of the decisions being pushed on them, or full knowledge about the long-term effects of life-altering, physically transformative, and often irreversible surgical and chemical procedures.
In 2024, National Health Service (NHS) England's landmark Cass Review found that "gender medicine" is "built on shaky foundations" and that "[w]hile a considerable amount of research has been published in this field, systematic evidence Reviews demonstrated the poor quality of the published studies, meaning there is not a reliable evidence base upon which to make clinical decisions, or for children and their families to make informed choices."
In April, a study of "all under-23-year-old gender-referred individuals between 1996 and 2019" in Finland (2,083 people) found that those who had gone through "gender transitions" had "markedly higher psychiatric morbidity [other mental health issues] than controls before and after referral, with treatment needs often persisting and even intensifying after medical interventions."

Puberty Blockers to Be Given to Girls as Young as 11 in UK Medical Trial
A British medical trial on puberty blocking drugs will involve girls as young as 11 years old, despite the government banning such drugs for children in 2024.
The UK government's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said on Friday that the previously paused Pathways transgender medical trial is set to go ahead in August after being paused in February.
The controversial trial will see young girls as young as 11 and boys as young as 12 being given puberty blockers to study their impact, London's Daily Telegraph reported.
In 2024, left-wing Labour Party Health Secretary Wes Streeting suspended the use of puberty blocking drugs for all children under the age of 18, saying that it had been a "scandal" how they were administered to minors.
This came after a Review from top paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, which found that the evidence used to justify such treatments for children was "built on shaky foundations" and therefore the National Health Service (NHS) should no longer prescribe them.
However, the Cass Review crucially left room open for continuing to administer such potentially life-altering drugs to children, provided that it is done within the context of a medical trial.

More than a hundred children as young as ten years old will be subjected to clinical trials of transgender drugs in Britain,despite the government blocking puberty blockers for general use.
Last year, a Review from leading paediatricianDr Hilary Cass found that transgender medical practices were "built on shaky foundations" and that Britain's socialised healthcare system should not hand out puberty-blocking drugs to minors over safety concerns. The left-wing Labour Party government agreed and barred the practice for children.
However, the Cass Review also left the door open for further medical trials to be conducted, paving the way for an upcoming study of 250 supposedly transgender children between 10 and 15 years old after receiving regulatory approval this week, The Times of London reported.
According to the paper, over half of the children will be provided with drugs for up to two years to suppress their natural development, like periods, breasts or facial hair. Their brain development and other indicators of health will then be monitored and compared with those of the children who did not take the drugs in their early adulthood.
The King's College team claimed that the study was necessary to provide allegedly trans children with the "information that they need to make informed choices about their care".
The study's leader, Professor Emily Simonoff, noted that parents will need to provide consent throughout the study.
However, she acknowledged that the study could have long-term negative impacts on the children involved, including potential impacts to their fertility, mental development, and bone structure.
Yet, Professor Simonoff said that trails would test to see if they would be offset by reduced anxiety and depression with a "better alignment between body features and long-term identity". (Give the Xanax Not puberty blockers assholes!)
The study has sparked swift backlash, including from the political and medical communities.
Biology in Medicine doctors campaign group, Dr Alice Hodkinson, said: "There is already clear evidence of harm, and there is no ethical justification for subjecting another 200 children to puberty blockers.
"We urge NHS England to stop placing children in harm's way and to prioritise rigorous analysis of the cohort of 2,000 children who have already received puberty blockers."
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss said, "Just when you think transgender ideology has been vanquished, it rears its head again. Doing this to children is evil. It should be a crime."
In a letter to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, independent MP Rupert Lowe called on the government to step in and halt the trial, expressing "profound concern, and frankly disgust, regarding the decision to authorise a new clinical trial administering puberty-blocking drugs to children".
"This is a deeply unethical experiment, one which must be immediately halted. We cannot further expose children to such harmful medical interventions. This trial is not safe, and it is certainly not ethically defensible. No child is born in the wrong body. To suggest otherwise, in any way, is a wildly irresponsible abuse of power and authority. Normalising this attitude, at all, is immoral and dangerous."

Last month,Dr. Gordon Guyatt, an authority on medical research, capitulated to a transgender activist mob and undermined his own field in the process. Guyatt, a professor at McMaster University in Canada,co-founded the field of evidence-based medicine in the Nineties. His team has been conducting systematic Reviews of the evidence behind gender-transition treatments for youths - and like several other researchers before them, they have found the evidence weak and uncertain.
Yet in response to ferocious pressure from trans activists, Guyatt disavowed his research team's besieged funder; explicitly denounced the use of his work to justify bans of these controversial interventions; and contradicted his own findings about the evidence base. Given Guyatt's academic prowess, his recent about-face has stunned critics of pediatric gender medicine. (Guyatt declined my requests for comment.)
Guyatt's capitulation follows a concerted campaign by transgender activists to smear the trio of systematic Reviews that his team recently published, suggesting Left-wing cancel culture still poses a threat to academic freedom and free inquiry where pediatric gender medicine is concerned.
Evidence-based medicine is a revolutionary meta-scientific discipline that has sought to synthesize the analysis of research findings. The goal is to determine the quality of evidence about any particular medical practice, support more precise and transparent treatment guidelines, and ultimately improve clinical decision-making. The legitimacy of the field depends, at least in part, on academics' independence and detachment from the political fray.
This year, the McMaster team published the first three of five systematic Reviews on gender-transition interventions for youths: on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and gender-transition mastectomies. While the mastectomy Review was the first of its kind, the others were but the latest in a solemn parade of suchReviews by researchers across the Western world. McMaster concluded that the evidence in all three treatment areas was weak and uncertain. Similar findings from researchers across the Atlantic have prompted health authorities in a swath of European nations to sharply restrict minors' access to gender-transition treatments.
Guyatt's research was funded by the US-based Society of Evidence-Based Gender Medicine, a group founded in 2019 with a mission to scrutinize the scientific evidence backing gender-transition interventions for youths. As determined by academics in a 2024 systematic Review commissioned to support the Cass Review of pediatric gender medicine in Britain, this field is sorely lacking for guidelines that pass evidence-based muster. SEGM sought to help fill that void. In 2021, it commissioned the systematic Reviews from Guyatt's team at McMaster; the project was headed by Dr. Romina Brignardello-Peterson, an associate professor of health-research methods.

Hundreds of doctors resign from British Medical Association for its support of LGBT child mutilations
The British Medical Association (BMA) recently came out to oppose an existing ban on puberty blockers for children in Great Britain, prompting hundreds of doctors in the United Kingdom to resign in protest and disgust.
The physicians who called it quits from the BMA say the union is ignoring evidence-based medicine by continuing to support the grotesque and utterly perverted concept of "changing genders" by taking endocrine-disrupting pharmaceutical drugs that destroy a child's hormonal system, probably for life.
It is all fun and games until all that drugging and mutilating catches up with a person, and yet BMA leadership think they know better than science and common sense what is safe and effective for a child suffering from gender dysphoria.
The BMA wants the government of the U.K. to lift its puberty blockers for children ban, as well as pause the implementation of the National Health Service's Case Review.
Before this mass exodus, roughly 1,000 senior physicians from across the U.K. published an open letter to BMA chairman and professor Philip Banfield accusing him and the 69-member council that controls the direction of the BMA of passing this new union policy position at a "secretive and opaque" meeting.
That open letter, which now has more than 1,400 senior physician signatures, 900 of which are from BMA members, calls out the doctors' union for basically doing its own thing without support from a majority of the union's members.
"We write as doctors to say, 'not in my name,'" the letter states.
"We are extremely disappointed that the BMA council had passed a motion to conduct a 'critique' of the Cass Review and to lobby to oppose its recommendations … It does not reflect the views of the wider membership, whose opinion you did not seek. We understand that no information will be released on the voting figures and how council members voted. That is a failure of accountability to members and is simply not acceptable."
Concerning the Cass Review, the letter goes on to call it "the most comprehensive Review into healthcare for children with gender related distress ever conducted." Since the BMA has chosen to do nothing but attack the Cass Review, the signatories are now calling on the union to "abandon its pointless exercise" in opposing the Review's recommendations.
"By lobbying against the best evidence we have, the BMA is going against the principles of evidence-based medicine and against ethical practice," the letter continues.
Many of the comments on The Times in response to the letter are from people who claim to be doctors saying that they "have torn up their membership cards" in response to the BMA's official position in support of transgender child mutilation.

According to reports in The Times and The Telegraph, hundreds of doctors are not only going public to express their anger with the British Medical Associations' decision to reject the Cass Review's findings on the dangers of puberty blockers - and many are resigning.

As I reported earlier in this space, on August 1 the British Medical Association - the U.K. doctor's union - called on the government to lift the ban on puberty blockers for minors and called for a pause on the implementation of the National Health Service's Cass Review.

Advancing American Freedom filed the first of a series of three amicus briefs leading a coalition of 52 other amici urging the Supreme Court to hear cases challenging West Virginia and Idaho laws designed to protect women's and girls' sports. The Fourth and Ninth circuits enjoined enforcement of those laws.
The physical distinctions between men and women manifest themselves in drastic differences in performance at the highest level of competition. AAF's briefs argue that while elite female athletes are incredibly talented, they would not be competetive with the top men in the world. The briefs show that giving children puberty blockers, an important element in the West Virginia cases, is just the latest iteration in a pattern of socially acceptable harm that has existed in different forms throughout recorded human history. As the Cass Review out of the UK explains, "a diagnosis of gender dysphoria . . . is not reliably predictive of whether that young person will have longstanding gender incongruence in the future, or whether medical intervention will be the best option for them." Yet many in America would rush children onto these drugs, potentially setting them up for a lifetime of consequences.
"If men are allowed to compete in women's sports, women will be discouraged from putting in the years of hard work athletic excellence requires," said AAF General Counsel J. Marc Wheat. "States have both the authority and the responsibility to protect women's and girls' sports and to ensure that children are allowed to experience normal physiological development free from medically unnecessary surgical and hormonal manipulation."

REPORT: Gender Clinic Still Refers Thousands Of Kids For Puberty Blockers After Being Instructed To Shut Down
Doctors are still referring thousands of children for puberty blockers at Tavistock, a London gender clinic the National Health Service (NHS) ordered to shut down, according to a report Sunday.
England's NHS ordered Tavistock, the country's only transgender youth clinic, shut down in July after a report revealed that doctors at the clinic were ordered to unquestioningly "affirm," children's gender identities. The clinic will be replaced by multiple regional clinics which focus on children's mental health concerns. A clinical nurse revealed in August that transgender activists wielded inordinate influence over the clinic's operations.
One thousand children are still receiving treatment at the gender clinic, according to the Sunday Times, including prescriptions for puberty blockers for kids under 16-years-old. An additional 8,000 children are on the waiting list for the Gender Identity Development Service (Gids).
The clinic is reportedly still awaiting a six month notice from the NHS to close, meaning it could be remain open until August.
"There is no suggestion puberty blockers are being taken off the table even for the new services," a source within the clinic told the outlet.
The NHS told the Daily Caller that establishing the new phase of the clinic's operations is progressing "as quickly as possible."
"The decision to decommission GIDS in a planned and managed way was taken following advice from the Independent Cass Review which made clear that children's gender services should be led by specialist children's hospitals going forward," the NHS said in a statement.
"The phase 1 providers will include a London-based hub led by a partnership between Great Ormond Street Hospital, Evelina London Children's Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust providing the specialist mental health support, and a Northwest hub led by a partnership between Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital."

The Australian is bound by a strict suppression order that ?prevents - among other things - the publication of either parent's gender, or the name of any clinicians that have treated the gender dysphoric child.
The doctor was asked by ?barrister Belle Lane, acting for the parent ?opposed to the child's transition, how she could be sure whether a child's gender identity would remain into adulthood before prescribing them medical treatment.
"You don't have any test that gives with absolute certainty that a child's gender identity will continue through their adult life," Ms Lane said.
The doctor responded: "No such test exists and gender identity changes over time. There is no specific test to determine how someone will feel in the future about their gender identity but that doesn't mean we ... take it on face value."
The doctor continued: "There is no way to predict in the future who someone will be, but we go with what we have and we make a prediction."
Ms Lane questioned whether "those people for whom your prediction is not accurate" will be subject to life-altering changes caused by testosterone, such as "facial hair, male patent baldness, alopecia".
The doctor admitted "there will be some changes that cannot be undone" such as "clitoral enlargement". But she told the court that, when conducting a consultation with the child, she said vaginal atrophy was "reversible".
"When the administration of testosterone is ceased, your body's natural hormones will ?increase again, unless there has been surgical intervention to your ovaries," she said.
Ms Lane requested the doctor provide "peer-Reviewed evidence" to support the fact vaginal atrophy is reversible, but the doctor could not.
Asked about conversations she had had with the child about the impact testosterone would have on her fertility, the doctor said there was "scientific debate" around lasting effects.
"(The child) is someone who had had regular menstrual cycles, who had not had puberty blockers, and the impact on fertility on someone like that is different," she said.
"What I told (the child) was … it could have an impact on fertility."

Members of the centre-right Liberal Party in Australia's most populous state have endorsed a motion urging a ban on medicalised gender change for minors.
The motion, passed at Saturday's state council meeting of the party's New South Wales (NSW) division, calls on "the federal and state governments to ban chemical (drug) and surgical gender dysphoria treatment for minors due to the inability of a child to provide informed consent to these types of procedures."
The motion is not binding on the parliamentary Liberal Party, which is in opposition, but the overwhelming support shown by members and delegates on Saturday sends a signal to the leadership ahead of a vote on legislation that would allow minors easier access to puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
The NSW Equality Legislation Amendment (LGBTIQA+) Bill 2023, a private Bill introduced by independent member Alex Greenwich, would allow gender-distressed minors aged 16-17 to authorise their own irreversible hormone treatment, with risks including sterilisation and sexual dysfunction. The Bill would also permit doctors in some circumstances to give children younger than 16 puberty blockers without the knowledge or consent of parents.
Under centre-left Labor premier Chris Minns, the state of NSW continues the expansion in supply of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones begun by the previous Liberal health minister Brad Hazzard.
Last month, the Liberal opposition leader in Western Australia, Libby Mettam, announced a policy to prohibit medical gender transition for children under 16, should she be elected to govern.
"In light of the recent publication of the Cass Review in the UK, a WA Liberal Government would ban the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormone treatments and surgical intervention for children under the age of 16 for the purpose of gender transition," Ms Mettam said.
"We would also initiate a comprehensive Review to examine the suitability of these interventions for treating gender incongruent children to ensure the treatment of young people and children with gender dysphoria is safe in the long and short term.
"This policy is consistent with recent restrictions on medical interventions for treatment of gender incongruent children in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Italy, the UK, and the US."
England's Cass report - which deplored the "remarkably weak evidence" for youth gender medicine and confirmed the experimental status of puberty blockers - was cited in support of Saturday's motion at the state council meeting of the NSW Liberals.
The motion, put up by the Coffs Harbour branch of the party, was carried by a show of hands, according to a person at the meeting, who estimated that perhaps a dozen of the 500-plus members and delegates in the room voted against the motion.
Upper house member Jacqui Munro, who describes herself as "the NSW Liberal Party's first LGBTQI+3 woman parliamentarian", reportedly spoke against the motion as contrary to a family's right to choose healthcare for children.

"As always, our Gender Service is underpinned by both national and international research methodology, and we will continue to monitor outcomes that will inform best practice," the hospital said in a statement.
Queensland child psychiatrist Jillian Spencer, who was stood down from her job in a children's hospital over her opposition to gender-affirming medicine, said she believed that since the release of the Cass Review, "the College of Psychiatry appears to be defending a gender-affirmative approach for children".
Despite the mantra that Australian gender clinics are multi?disciplinary and holistic, she said we could not be sure, as the same was once said of the Tavistock.
"Such similarities indicate the need for an inquiry to investigate how Australian gender clinics are actually functioning on the ground," Dr Spencer said.
"Concerns are reinforced by Freedom of Information data showing Australian paediatric gender clinics continue to prescribe puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones at high rates.
"I am concerned Australian gender clinics are providing a standard of care significantly worse than the Tavistock clinic on several measures."
For children approaching puberty, Australian clinics offer a three- to four-session assessment phase before referral for hormones, whereas the Tavistock clinic was criticised as "rushing" children into hormonal interventions using a four to six-session assessment phase.
The UK gender clinic prescribed cross-sex hormones from "around the time of the child's 16th birthday", whereas Australian clinics routinely prescribe cross-sex hormones to children aged 14. While the Cass Review did not comment on gender surgeries, which are not provided to minors in Britain, in 2018 the Australian Family Court gave the green light for adolescents with decision-making capacity to undergo gender surgeries.
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists is facing ongoing calls to release a statement acknowledging the findings of the Cass Review.
There is also growing concern at the dearth of information on the outcomes of the children who have been treated at public hospital gender clinics around the country, which have published very little data or outcomes based on patient research.
The college re-released a statement it gave to The Australian two weeks ago.
"The RANZCP is Reviewing the findings of the Cass Review," a spokesperson said.

Australia's guidelines on gender-affirmative medicine lack rigour and independence, and fail to recommend formal assessment processes that screen for body image problems, autism spectrum disorder, sexual orientation, or physical health conditions, according to international researchers commissioned by the UK Cass Review.
University of York researchers conducted a study analysing international standards of care in gender-affirming medicine.
The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne guidelines, which are followed by all Australia's children's hospitals, were examined.
The Review found all guidelines around the world, including Australia's, recommend a multidisciplinary approach to assessment, but few provide specific detail or clarity on the purposes of assessment. For instance, very few guidelines recommend formal measures or clinical tools to assess gender dysphoria.
Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne guidelines in Australia were found to contain no recommendations for the discussion of body image, neurodiversity or autism spectrum disorder, sexuality, sexual functioning or sexual orientation, or physical health or conditions.
A past president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Hillary Cass was commissioned to carry out a Review of London's Gender Identity Development Service following patient and clinician concern over an activist-driven approach adopted at the flagship Tavistock clinic that was deemed to have unduly overridden clinical governance and ?decision-making, risking harms to children who were routinely rushed on to puberty blocker medication.
The Review's recommendations reflect a culmination of four years of investigation and consultation, as well as eight independent systemic Reviews of the global research literature found a lack of reliable evidence for the key gender interventions used in the gender affirming model of care, including social transition, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
The Review also examined international evidence and gender-affirming medicine guidelines, including in Australia where RCH guidelines were first published in 2018 in the Medical Journal of Australia. Written by gender-affirming clinicians at RCH, they became known as the Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines.
These guidelines are endorsed by the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health and in turn have been modelled on the World PATH endorsed standards of care.
In the University of York's examination of international guidelines, the RCH Standards of Care ranked very poorly. Australia's guidelines were given a very low score of 19 per cent on "rigour of development" and 14 per cent on "editorial independence".
The Cass report found WPATH and various national guidelines tended to reference each other in a "circular" fashion to back up their methods despite objectively poor evidence underpinning the gender-affirming medical approach.

I suppose if I had been cheering on a vast medical experiment on children that was now shown to be extremely harmful, I might be keeping my head down. If I had been interning as a witch hunter, I might say, "I only helped with the pyres, I didn't actually light the fire." If I needed other people's small children to prove my very "existence" as an adult, I may keep rather quiet.
Indeed, the reaction to the Cass Review has been notable in that many who have previously intoned trans rights slogans have just changed the subject. Their silence is deafening.
The other reaction is almost Trumpian in its delusion. When presented with the biggest survey of the evidence by a top paediatrician, some zealots simply come out with their own "alternative facts". The disinformation they have spread has meant that Dr Hilary Cass, the report's author, has been threatened and advised not to travel on public transport.
These people, quite frankly, disgust me. One of them, Patrick Harvie, the co-leader of the Scottish Greens, was asked five times on the Today programme whether he accepted Cass's findings and he would not answer. Thankfully, he is not in charge of NHS Scotland, which has now also paused the prescription of puberty blockers and will not give cross-sex hormones to new patients under 18.
Harvie keeps repeating the rubbish that we saw some of our MPs expressing in the House of Commons last week: that Cass ignored certain evidence (she didn't), that no one should debate the existence of trans people (we are not), that a four-year Review of medical care is somehow in itself evidence of transphobic attitudes (you what?). Dawn Butler, Ben Bradshaw and Lloyd Russell-Moyle all embarrassed themselves. Stella Creasy, in her best "not so much angry as disappointed" manner, wanged on about all the "trans children" on waiting lists.
But where do all these "trans children" come from? At some point this cult has to ask itself this, surely? Even that glorified estate agent and twig painter Kirstie Allsopp and the singer, Mr Sexuality Billy Bragg have to question whether giving drugs that we use to castrate sex offenders to children is "kind". But no, they prefer self-righteous and deliberate ignorance.
Nothing that Cass said has not been voiced before: the whistle-blowers, the detransitioners, the clinicians who left in droves let us know. Puberty blockers were not used until 2011, but 10 years ago the prescription age was dropped to 11. Private doctors were giving them to nine-year-olds. What happened since? Well, part of the problem is lack of records and refusal to hand over data. This is either incompetence or a cover-up from the adult clinics.

Equality Australia, a transgender activist lobby, issued a curious media statement this week deploring England's Cass Review into the medicalisation of distressed minors alienated from their birth sex. The statement ran to almost 900 words, but none could be spared to spell out puberty blockers or synthetic cross-sex hormones.
Hiding behind the euphemism of gender-affirming care, the clinicians and activists quoted in the statement would have us believe the medical scandal documented by British pediatrician Hilary Cass is simply not relevant here in Australia. Yet it is, of course. Same hormonal drugs likely to sterilise minors and rob them of sexual pleasure as adults, same low-quality evidence base, same zealous affirmation of gender as the cause of distress.
Teenagers turn up at gender clinics primed with the diagnostic checklist for gender dysphoria, but the true causes of their unhap?piness may lie elsewhere. Maybe undiagnosed autism, awkward same-sex attraction, mental health disorders, past sex abuse or just the unsurprising confusion of teenage brains exposed to a pseudoscientific celebrity culture of gender diver?sity.
Cass can't pull the plug on social media, but the final report she released this week should be enough to shut down blockers and hormones as routine treatment for gender-distressed minors in England. More cautious, less medicalised treatment policies already have been adopted in Finland and Sweden; in the US, almost half the states - those run by Republicans - have restricted hormonal and surgical interventions for minors.
Elsewhere in what we call the developed world, ideologically qualified gender clinicians carry on regardless, affirming the latest disembodied gender identity of a troubled teenager and doing what can be done to create an opposite-sex facsimile with drugs and surgery. In Australia, private surgeons have performed double mastectomies on girls as young as 15 who imagine they can identify out of being female. Our federal and state governments still appear locked in uncritical expansion of gender-affirming medicine as if it were lifesaving. Cass is not the first to point out that the evidence to justify the "transition or suicide" campaign simply isn't there.
So, how did we end up here?
It has been likened to a lab leak. Cass explains: "Based on a single Dutch study, which suggested that puberty blockers may improve psychological wellbeing for a narrowly defined group of children with (gender dysphoria), the practice spread at pace to other countries." This "Dutch protocol" of not-too-early puberty blockers, followed by cross-sex hormones and surgery, entered the scientific literature not long before a troubling shift in the culture.
Around 2010-15, when teen?agers began to spend more time home on social media and less time in the rough and tumble of life outside, clinics started to witness an unprecedented explosion of would-be gender patients.
Before, the classic patient was one of the few males whose early childhood distress had not been resolved by time and normal development. Now, the typical profile internationally is a teenage girl with plenty of other problems but no early history of rejecting her birth sex. And now puberty, with its yuck factor, can be stopped - just like hitting a pause button - and there's time to explore cool gender identities. In melodramatic mode, activists even speak of "the wrong puberty" as inflicting irreversible harm.
But weaknesses in the Dutch research have become more obvious with time, and it isn't clear if the claimed mental health benefits even apply to today's very different patient group starting puberty blockers as young as ages eight to 12. In reality, blockers seem not a pause but the first step on a potentially lifelong medical path; international data suggests almost all those begun on blockers will go on to cross-sex hormones.
How can such young children consent to trading away future rights to having a family and sexual fulfilment for what may be short-run satisfaction with a new, unstable identity?

Doctors blast opaqueness of gender clinics

Australia's major gender clinics have refused to confirm whether they are tracking long-term health outcomes of thousands of young children they have treated, despite a landmark British Review that criticised the opaqueness and secrecy of the medical care.
Children's hospitals in NSW, Queensland and Victoria have given no indication they will be changing treatment options for young people with gender dysphoria, despite serious issues raised by the Cass Review and growing international evidence over the safety and clinical effectiveness of the drugs.
As an increasing number of ?voices call for an independent inquiry into the prescription of ?puberty blockers to young teens, medical experts have urged Australian hospitals to release up-to-date information on treatment plans and long-term outcomes of hormone treatments, warning that the current lack of transparency is leading to harmful outcomes.
Clinicians have also hit out at the nation's peak body for transgender health, AusPATH, after it this week dismissed findings of the Cass Review, saying that the medical body was "digging their heeds in" despite increasing alarm over the rising prescription of ?puberty-blocking drugs in young teenagers.
British health authorities in March banned the routine prescription of puberty blockers to young teens in response to interim findings of the Cass Review, following extensive examination of the care being provided to children at London's Tavistock clinic.
Handing down her final report this week, chairwoman Hilary Cass found the entire field of medicine aimed at enabling children to change gender was "built on shaky foundations".
The Australian approached several gender clinics, including the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, The Children's Hospital in Sydney's Westmead, the Children's Health Queensland Gender Clinic and Maple Leaf House in Newcastle, NSW, asking how many children were being treated and whether institutions could detail their follow-up policies for previous patients.
The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne forwarded questions on patient figures and reaction to the Cass Review to the Victoria Health Department, which failed to respond.
The question of follow-up procedures and outcomes was sent to the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, but a spokeswoman said the key researcher was away on leave.
Queensland Health refused to provide answers to the questions put forward by The Weekend Australian, citing an independent Review of practices within the state's Children's Gender Service.
NSW Health did not directly respond to questions asked but provided figures on the number of patients seen in 2022 and 2023. In those two years, 294 patients under the age of 16 were treated by The Children's Hospital while 1787 people under the age of 25 were given care at Maple Leaf House.
Society for Evidence Based Gender Medicine president Roberto D'Angelo warned of a lack of transparency around the treatment of young children with gender dysphoria, saying the inadequate sharing of clinical information was "one of the most serious failures noted by the Cass Review".
AusPATH vice-president Portia Predney this week said the Cass Review was "at odds with the current evidence base, expert consensus and majority of clinical guidelines around the world".
Paediatrician Dylan Wilson called on the commonwealth to immediately ban all new puberty blocker prescriptions, saying gender clinics had "absolutely no idea what state of health their former patients are in".
He also called for a Review into why governments and heath organisations ignored the "warnings, red flags and whistle?blowers" expressing concern for the use of drugs on young ?children.
Melbourne-psychiatrist Alison Clayton said there was a lack of "publicly available information about the numbers of 18 year olds being prescribed puberty blockers, oestrogen or testosterone at the public child and adolescent gender clinics or at community or hospital adult clinics."
Sydney psychiatrist Tanveer Ahmed said debate around the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones was being driven by identity politics rather than science.
He said gender issues were "ground zero of the culture wars".

Leading Australian psychiatrists say puberty blockers should be restricted to children enrolled in rigorous clinical trials, after a new British analysis found the mental health of one-third of adolescents deteriorated while they were taking the controversial drugs.
The new UK analysis of an earlier, landmark study found 34 per cent of children aged 12 to 15 reported their mental health had deteriorated after taking puberty blockers for one year, while 29 per cent of children saw their psychological health improve. No mental health change was reported by 37 per cent of the children who had been on blockers for 12 months.
Overall, the fresh analysis, published on preprint health sciences website medRXIV, suggests 71 per cent of children taking puberty blockers reported a decline or no change in their mental health after one year of treatment. Yet as the study states: "The main argument for the introduction of puberty blockers in the UK for this age group (under 16) had been their potential to relieve psychological distress'' while the children explored their gender identity.
Philip Morris, a visiting professor of psychiatry at Bond University, said: "To see a third of people getting worse is very concerning.''
Given that puberty blockers had other potential side-effects, including infertility and loss of bone density, "we would want to see a result where the majority of people had benefited substantially'', said Dr Morris, president of the Gold Coast Medical Association.
The British report's authors, Professor Susan McPherson from the University of Essex and retired social scientist David Freedman, regarded the "comparatively high levels'' of psychological deterioration among the surveyed children as "concerning'': "It is important to note that the highest rate of deterioration (34 per cent) is seen in the self-report scale at 12 months (of drug treatment) and only slightly reduces by 24 months to 27 per cent,'' they wrote.
The reanalysis of the three-year study differs dramatically from the original findings of the Tavistock Gender Identity Development Service and University College London Hospitals, which concluded that puberty blockers caused no changes in the surveyed children's mental health.
The two analyses reached such different conclusions because the original research reported average group results, while the new study looked at children's individual mental health trajectories.
The original study led to younger children being prescribed puberty blockers in the UK, according to the BBC. The university and the Tavistock clinic - the latter was criticised by the independent Cass Review and will be replaced with UK regional gender clinics from 2024 - have welcomed the new findings.

The committee discussed whether there was a need for a systematic Review to be held in Australia, but given comprehensive recent Reviews in the UK, including the Cass Report, the final report of which is pending, decided there would be little merit in undertaking a local Review. The committee had established that the Cass Review was set to hand down a final finding that did not find evidence of benefit from the prescription of hormone drugs to children, members were told.
The interim findings of the Cass Review in the UK found children were rushed down a medical pathway without full exploration of their mental health, prompting the closure of the Tavistock Clinic and an NHS decree that puberty blockers can only be prescribed to children in the context of clinical trials.
The Australian FCAP committee felt there was an urgent need to update the RANZCP's position statement on the treatment of young people with gender distress and gender dysphoria. Psychiatrists were told a steering committee is working on updating the position statement, which was most overhauled most recently in 2021 when it stepped back from full endorsement of the gender-affirmative model and stressed the need for focus on holistic psychotherapy.
Increasingly, discussion of gender-affirmative medicine among Australian doctors reflects developments around the world. Countries including the UK, Sweden, Norway and France have placed greater safeguards around the prescription of hormone drugs.
The Endocrine Society in Australia fully embraces the position of the international Endocrine Society in endorsing the World Professional Association for Transgender Health model of care, but many Australian specialists, especially paediatric endocrinologists, hold concerns.
The split in the profession over the issue is so deep that the peak professional body for paediatric endocrinologists, the Australia and New Zealand Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, has for several years refrained from input into transgender care due to wide concerns.
On Friday in the Wall Street Journal, 21 clinicians and researchers from nine countries published a letter challenging Endocrine Society Stephen Hammes' recent statement that "more than 2000 studies published since 1975 form a clear picture: gender-affirming care improves the wellbeing of transgender and gender-diverse people and reduces the risk of suicide."
"This claim is not supported by the best available evidence," the gender specialists said.
"Every systematic Review of evidence ... has found the evidence for mental health benefits of hormonal interventions for minors to be of low or very low certainty."
The 21 clinicians in the WSJ letter said, in view of significant risks, that doctors internationally are recommending psychotherapy rather than hormones and surgeries as the first line of treatment for gender-dysphoric youth.

The Edmonton Public School Board is gearing up for a fight with Alberta parents and Premier Danielle Smith's government by opposing a series of parental rights policies.
The school board issued a motion on Tuesday that attacked the right of parents to be informed about their children using different pronouns while at school and giving them more control over sex education.
The motion quoted Senator Kristopher Wells saying that the policies, "if passed, they would be some of the most extreme anti-trans and anti-2SLGBTQ policies, not only in Canada, but in the world."
The policies provide additional protection for youth in healthcare, education, and sports. One key change is from the current policy where parents can opt their children out of lessons that teach sexual orientation and gender identity curricula. Parents will now have to opt them in.
The school board's motion said that this needs to be reverted immediately.
"Allowing parents/guardians to opt out of sexual education, is a long-standing practice that works," reads the motion. "The process is transparent, respects student well-being as well as parental choice. There are numerous research studies that show the teaching of sexual health education contributes to safer sex practices, fewer sexually transmitted infections, and reduced teen pregnancies."
However, nothing in Alberta's bills would remove sexual education. Parents would just have more say in what kind of sexual education their children learn about.

A rookie Conservative MP has sponsored a petition calling on the government to halt all gender reassignment surgery for minors and any gender-affirming care for those under 16 years old.
Petition e-5010, initiated by a Whitby, Ont. woman, has amassed over 1,100 signatures since it was posted June 12, sponsored by Durham MP Jamil Jivani.
"We are deeply troubled by the largely unrestricted social and medical options being presented to children struggling with gender ideation in Canada," reads the petition.
Jivani has yet to discuss his sponsorship of the petition publicly, but a post to X from a supporter of the petition Tuesday received positive feedback.
Jivani has publicly backed petitions on parental rights, stopping DEI, affordability, and stopping car thefts in his Ontario riding.
The petition says that given the "discredited nature" of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and the recent findings of the Cass Review in the United Kingdom, the House of Commons should "prioritize evidence-based practices and take decisive action to ensure the safety and well-being of all children and adolescents in Canada." MSPs and campaigners have been waiting for a response to the Cass Review for nearly three months… and to their utter fury and disbelief it has now been published at the same time as the biggest political story in years

SNP ministers were accused of a "cowardly" attempt to avoid scrutiny after "sneaking out" a response to the Cass Review on Friday.
The report by Dr Hilary Cass into NHS gender services in England criticised the lack of evidence to support the use of puberty blockers and other medical intervention.
Her findings after a four-year investigation were published in April, with the Scottish Government coming under pressure to adopt all 32 recommendations. However, the Greens and elements within the SNP dismissed Dr Cass and the row was a major factor in the collapse of the Bute House Agreement.
A team led by Scotland's Chief Medical Officer Sir Gregor Smith was set up and - to the disbelief of many critics - their findings were published on Friday afternoon.
Scottish Conservative deputy leader - and Scottish Daily Express columnist - Meghan Gallacher branded the move a "disgraceful… ploy to deny any accountability".
She said: "We've been waiting months for the SNP to respond to the Cass Review and, by sheer chance, it's finally ready to be published the day after the General Election.
"The SNP's cowardly attempt to sneak this out when everyone's gaze is elsewhere - and the Scottish Parliament is in recess - is disgraceful. But it's also typical of their contempt for scrutiny and accountability.
"This is a critical response that will shape the future of gender services in Scotland but MSPs will not be afforded the opportunity to question the SNP Minister in the chamber for weeks. It's simply not good enough. We will consider the recommendations carefully to ensure they fall in line with the Cass Review."
'We will update Parliament after summer recess'
Sir Gregor and his team said that, as elsewhere in the UK, the use of puberty-suppressing hormones should be paused until further clinical trials can be undertaken. They also recommended that a senior clinician, preferably a consultant, should take overall responsibility for each young person's care.
Currently, Glasgow is home to the only gender clinic in Scotland and Sir Gregor called for work on designing a regional service to begin "immediately".
The Scottish Government said the report could not be published in the run-up to the General Election due to 'purdah' rules. Health Secretary Neil Gray said: "The conclusions of the report will now be considered and used to improve gender identity healthcare for children and young people.
"The Scottish Government will update Parliament after summer recess. We remain absolutely committed not just to ensuring ongoing support is available, but to reforming and improving gender identity healthcare across Scotland."

Alarm has been sounded after it was revealed that Scots nurseries have adopted SNP guidelines which claim that children can "come out" as transgender at "any age." And nine of Glasgow City Council's 110 pre-schools have obtained "gender friendly nursery" status which means staff had been trained on "harmful impacts of gender stereotyping".
It is the latest revelation about gender ideology being adopted in places of learning for children north of the border, with the Scottish Government being urged to rethink policies following the Cass Review. Most of the rules have been written up by controversial charity LGBT Youth Scotland.
Dr Hilary Cass's report into gender care for children in England is currently being analysed by a workgroup set up by SNP ministers, with the results due to be published before Holyrood's summer recess. She recommended that kids who think they are transgender should be given holistic care and not just rushed into treatment.
Scottish Government guidelines call on staff to "be affirming" and ask for a child's new name and pronouns when they say they identify as a member of the opposite sex. According to an FOI request reported by the Daily Telegraph, Glasgow City Council admitted that its nurseries were "signposted" to this guidance.
Activist groups such as LGBT Youth Scotland and Stonewall helped to write them, with the latter previously claiming that kids as young as two can "recognise their trans identity". Scottish Tory deputy leader Meghan Gallacher called on new guidance to be written up for nurseries, which serve kids between two and five.
She said: "Parents will understandably be alarmed at this response from Glasgow City Council. While it's important that all trans people get the support they need, pre-school kids are far too young to understand complex issues about their gender, when their minds and bodies are nowhere near fully developed.
"Parents want age-appropriate guidance to be provided to their children and - however good the intentions behind this are - this 'signposting' is not suitable for toddlers."
Staff at "gender friendly" nurseries were told that gender was a "fluid, cultural concept" and that gender associations of pink and blue was a "relatively new thing" as pink was once "a shade of military red" and blue was seen as a colour for girls "as it was the colour of the Virgin Mary's clothes".
Scottish Government guidance also endorses social transition, meaning kids can change names, pronouns and physical appearance. The document says: "Transgender young people may recognise and discuss their gender identity at any age. Before puberty, any transition or change is limited to socially changing their name, pronoun and gender expression."
In the FOI response, SNP-led Glasgow City Council said that in cases where a child "is presenting as a different gender" in nurseries, it asked that "wishes of the family and child are supported wherever possible". The local authority also confirmed that pre-schools were "signposted to the Scottish Government's publication 'Supporting transgender young people in schools: guidance for Scottish schools'."
A spokesman added: "The most important part of this learning is about instilling confidence and rights from a young age to expect equality and challenge discrimination of any kind.
"Staff in our schools and nurseries are supported in a variety of ways and this includes signposting to national advice - but that does not detract from every situation being dealt with on a case-by-case basis. All our schools and nurseries value and respect the needs and rights of every child."

Scottish schools are using pupils to quiz children as young as four about their sexuality, it has been reported. Primary schools are appointing so-called 'LGBT champions' to ask younger students whether they are gay, lesbian or transgender.
Institutions are signing up for a scheme run by LGBT Youth Scotland to set up LGBT clubs as well as 'gender and sexual orientation alliance groups', according to The Telegraph. The charity is also calling on head teachers to create gender-neutral toilets and mark events like Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20.
LGBT Youth Scotland received almost ?1 million in taxpayer cash in the financial year 2022/23. The biggest chunk of this - ?450,000 - came from the Scottish Government with ?340,000 from councils and a further ?154,000 from NHS boards.
Over 200 secondary schools and 40 primary schools have signed up to its charter for education from every council area in Scotland. The news comes against the backdrop of the publication of the Cass Review which raised fears that the case for allowing children to change gender was built on weak evidence.
The Scottish Conservatives want the SNP government to implement the Review in full. Miriam Cates, the co-chairman of the New Conservatives group of MPs, told the Telegraph: "We have seen from the Cass Review the appalling results of using children as pawns in adult political battles.
"Indoctrinating small children with sexualised ideologies is deeply unethical and breaks all established safeguarding principles."And Carolyn Brown, a retired educational psychologist, said: "Children of primary school age are very suggestible and are still at a very early stage of their psychological and emotional development.
"What we are seeing here is the product placement of gender ideology in schools which is potentially very harmful. Kids in primary school cannot possibly know if they are LGBT because biologically, psychologically and emotionally they will not yet have the capacity."
LGBT Youth Scotland charges between ?850 and ?2,000 for schools to sign up for membership. Staff must be trained by the charity and schools must appoint at least two pupils and two staff members to act as 'LGBT Champions' while schools wanting to obtain 'gold status' are urged to conduct a survey asking pupils about their sexuality as well as provide evidence of "LGBT safe spaces".
We previously reported that LGBT Youth Scotland referred itself to the police in relation to historical allegations of child grooming and sexual exploitation. A Scottish Government spokesman said: "We are committed to doing everything we can to make Scotland the best place to grow up for LGBTQI+ young people. This includes funding LGBT Youth Scotland to deliver a range of projects, such as the LGBT Charter programme."
The Scottish Express has approached LGBT Youth Scotland for comment. The organisation describes itself as "Scotland's national charity for LGBTQ+ young people, aged 13-25" and claims to "support young people in all aspects of their lives through the provision of amazing youth work, and we support them to use their voice to create change in equality and human rights".

Questions are being asked about an SNP event where Stephen Flynn, Kate Forbes and Stewart McDonald got together just five days Humza Yousaf tore up the Bute House Agreement.
The alleged plotting is said to have taken place in the low-key setting of Scotstounhill Bowling Club in the Glasgow suburb of Anniesland on the evening of Friday, April 19. The event was held to endorse Carol Monaghan as the Glasgow West candidate.
Ms Forbes and Glasgow South MSP Mr McDonald were advertised as special guests several months in advance, along with Anniesland MSP Bill Kidd. But Mr Flynn, who represents Aberdeen South, was only added on April 16. On social media, one person suggested it was a "last minute line-up change to plot Humza's downfall".
It came as the simmering tensions between some SNP politicians and the Scottish Greens were about to boil over, brought to a head by the Cass Review into gender services for children and the decision to ditch net zero targets. Just hours before the get-together in the bowling club bar, the Greens had announced a vote on ending the Bute House Agreement.
Mr Flynn was already known to be quietly fuming at the deal, with Green opposition to the North Sea oil and gas industry causing huge damage the SNP's electoral chances across the North-East. Like Ms Forbes, he is ferociously ambitious, relatively young (she is 34, he is 35) and likely to spend years at the top of the party.
Two days after the Anniesland gathering, Patrick Harvie gave the extraordinary BBC interview in which he repeatedly refused to accept the findings of Dr Hilary Cass and her team of medical experts, who spent four years putting together their report. This may have been just the trigger the plotters had been waiting for…
By Wednesday, April 24, Mr Flynn was in Edinburgh for a meeting with the First Minister. He is said to have urged Mr Yousaf to chuck the Greens out of government before the party's lentil-munching members could vote to terminate the BHA, arguing that failing to do so would make him look weak.
The SNP leader ended the coalition the following morning - fatally underestimating the spiteful response from Mr Harvie, Lorna Slater and Ross Greer. With the eight Green MSPs threatening to support a vote of no confidence, Mr Yousaf was forced to turn to Alba's Ash Regan in order to save his political career. However, for reasons that are yet to be fully explained, he then rejected her offer of support and instead decided to resign on Monday, April 29.
It has now been revealed that Ms Forbes and John Swinney held discussions about the party leadership on the day BEFORE Mr Yousaf's resignation. The Times reports that Mr McDonald and the SNP MP Ian Blackford acted as proxies for the pair, with Ms Forbes eventually agreeing to stand aside in exchange for a plum cabinet post.
'I think she's going to have an incredibly bright future'
Meanwhile, Mr Flynn - who is now being tipped for a switch to Holyrood in 2026 - showered Ms Forbes with praise even as he publicly urged her not to stand against Mr Swinney. Hinting at a future leadership contest between them, he said: "So, I've got a huge amount of respect for Kate, I think she's phenomenally talented and she's going to have an incredibly bright future. But one of the reasons I'm not putting myself forward is because I'm 35 years old and I've got a lot of experience still to gain."
Suggestions of a plot to topple Mr Yousaf - also involving Nicola Sturgeon, who still wields huge influence in the SNP and is said to have torpedoed any alliance with Alex Salmond and the Alba Party - have been swirling around in nationalist circles all week. Some have even claimed that the outgoing FM's strong stance on the war in Gaza (not to mention his dalliance with Turkish leader Erdogan) was the motivation for "the powers that be" to act against him.
There are even extraordinary claims that the political manoeuvres in Glasgow and Edinburgh were in some way connected to the British-American Project, which is run from the US Embassy in London. It seeks to strengthen links between the US and the UK and counter anti-American sentiment among the British left.

HUMZA Yousaf rejected demands to sign up to an electoral pact with Alex Salmond's Alba party in order to survive as First Minister.
Mr Salmond said a "top line" for any deal with Mr Yousaf would see the two pro-independence parties agree a deal ahead of the Holyrood election in 2026.
But a spokesperson for the First Minister dismissed the demands as "fantasy".
They said: "This is fantasy. There is no possibility of the First Minister agreeing any deal like this with Alex Salmond."
Mr Salmond - who set up Alba in 2021 amid the parliamentary inquiry into the Scottish Government's handling of sexual harassment complaints made against him - told The Times the price of his party's support would be a partial pact at the next Holyrood election.
He also demanded Mr Yousaf accept all recommendations of the Cass Review into gender healthcare for children, and an "independence convention".
The Alba party leader said: "If you remember the Scotland United idea from last year which Humza just ignored, which was very popular with the Yes groups and amongst SNP supporters.
"It would be difficult to revive it in full now because obviously candidates have been selected, but it could be revived in part, or there could be an understanding for the Scottish elections in two years time.
"So a discussion along these lines, so its a menu of independence options."
He added these demands were "not impossible" and "not out of reach", and could include additional investment in closure-threatened oil refinery Grangemouth.
But there are understood to be concerns from inside the SNP about cozying up to Ms Regan.
One minister told the Scottish Sun: "Ash is to quality what Liz Truss is to economics."
But a senior Scottish Government source said: "The Greens are not for shifting.
"Alex Salmond is playing it a bit cannier than the Greens. He is playing his cards over the weekend and into the week. It's unlikely there will be white smoke soon."
Left-wing activists in the SNP also promised to fight against any move to the right by Mr Yousaf in a warning shot about any potential deal with Alba.
In a letter attacking the failure to go to SNP members about the decision to ditch the
Bute House Agreement, the SNP Socialists said they would "organise against" any "shift to the right".
It came amid warnings Scotland could face an "accidental" snap election as Mr Yousaf fights to cling to power and Holyrood descends into turmoil, a top pollster said.
Sir John Curtice also warned that Scottish Labour could clean up at the looming Westminster vote as the SNP faces months of chaos.
His stark prediction came as the First Minister sent "begging" letters to his political opponents on Friday night in a desperate bid to shore up support ahead of no confidence votes this week.

Humza Yousaf is now running a "zombie government" it has been claimed while the SNP await the results of the Scottish Greens' Bute House Agreement vote. It means that the nationalist administration will struggle to push through any legislation and will be looking to placate the environmentalists.
This was shown on Tuesday when the first minister's flagship justice reforms barely made it through the first stage of debate with only 60 MSPs voting for it, compared to 62 abstaining. It included a mini rebellion of Nat MSPs, as Kate Forbes, Fergus Ewing, Annabelle Ewing, Michelle Thomson, Ivan McKee and Christine Grahame all refused to vote for it.
And the Scottish Government was blasted over its response to the Cass Review as it failed to announce anything of something substance, with rivals suggesting this was to placate the Greens whose grassroots membership raged about the pause on puberty blockers to those under-18.
Now, concerns have been raised that Mr Yousaf's administration will be in a state of "paralysis" until a decision is made on the Bute House Agreement. The first minister outright refused to give his own party a vote, telling journalists on Wednesday it was "not needed or wanted" despite growing calls from some Nats for this to happen.
Opponents have accused him of creating a vacuum which will have an impact on the current administration as it will be too worried to put forward anything controversial. Scottish Tory chairman Craig Hoy said: "Scotland can't afford to endure weeks of a zombie government while Green members decide on the future of their pact with the SNP.
"This coalition of chaos has been a disaster for Scotland and it's a measure of how painfully weak Humza Yousaf is that he's now at the mercy of another party's vote. If he had any backbone, he'd be pulling the plug on the Bute House Agreement himself rather than leaving the country in limbo while others determine whether he leads a majority or minority government.
"The anti-growth Greens should never have been invited into government in the first place and so long as the First Minister is desperately trying to placate them - as he did with the vacuous ministerial statement on the Cass Review - Scotland is in a state of paralysis."
Many commentators have claimed that it would be another humiliation for Mr Yousaf to have agreement collapse around him without him even being involved. He has yet to show leadership since being appointed, failing to distance himself from Nicola Sturgeon despite the scandals embroiling her.
Scottish Labour business manager Martin Whitfield said: "Any shred of credibility the Scottish Greens had left has been abandoned with Scotland's 2030 climate targets." Former SNP minister Ash Regan lodged a no confidence motion in Mr Harvie due his failure to accept the Cass Review, but it is unlikely to even be debated due to a lack of support from other parties.
A Scottish Government source told the Daily Mail: "The Scottish Government was urging calm, and for people to use the time and space between last week and the Green vote in May to consider the issue in a dispassionate manner: more light, less rushing to judgment in the heat of the moment. I'd say it's important not to make the end of the BHA a self-fulfilling prophecy."

Humza Yousaf has dumped Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater after three years in government together - and it has not gone down well with the Scottish Greens

The Bute House Agreement that had propped up the SNP in government has come to an end - and it has proved to be an acrimonious split. Humza Yousaf might have told Lorna Slater and Patrick Harvie, "it's not you, it's me", but the Green duo still reacted with all the fury and bitterness of a scorned lover.
Hailed by Nicola Sturgeon in 2021 as an example of "doing politics and governance better" when she signed the deal after the Scottish election, it has proved to be a controversial arrangement with dissatisfaction growing on both sides.
Things have come to a head in recent weeks with Green members especially becoming upset with the agreement. On the SNP side, Yousaf and his allies were bigging up the deal just hours before he scrapped it but criticism, was growing among his backbenchers.
So what changed to bring this partnership to an end? And crucially, what happens next?
Cass Review and puberty blockers
Gender issues have cast a shadow over Scottish politics since the Greens entered government. Fervent supporters of making it easier to legally change gender, they were the driving force behind the controversial Gender Recognition and Reform Bill, which passed Holyrood in December 2022.
It was blocked by the UK Government over concerns with the Equality Act and was widely seen to have played a part in Nicola Sturgeon's resignation. The issue was thrust back into the spotlight this month when the Cass Review into transgender healthcare was published.
While the report only covered England, the SNP government found itself under pressure to implement its recommendations. Key to this was stopping the prescribing of puberty blockers to children. Humza Yousaf tried to dodge the issue and passed the buck to clinicians to make the call - which they duly did, with two health boards announcing a pause.
The move, and the SNP's unwillingness to prevent it, angered many Greens. Patrick Harvie was scathing in his judgement of the Cass report, questioning its legitimacy. It led to accusations from SNP MSP Michelle Thomson that he was a science denier. Harvie's criticism left many SNP politicians uneasy with one saying he was a "f***ing crank".
Mairi McAllan ditches key climate pledge
The Cass fallout had already driven a wedge between the two nationalist allies. But Mairi McAllan's announcement last week that the Scottish Government was ditching a key climate pledge proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
The SNP had committed to cutting carbon emission by 75% by 2030 - a target they were repeatedly told was too ambitious. The u-turn was a humiliation and McAllan was left trying to spin it as a restructuring of the Net Zero plan. The eight Green MSPs at Holyrood failed to call out the government, but members were less impressed.
Green EGM and Yousaf takes the plunge
Member anger led to the Scottish Green Party confirming an EGM would be held on the future of the Bute House Agreement. It led to growing voices in the SNP that the deal should be put to their members as well.
As late as Wednesday, Yousaf was extolling the virtues of the deal. But as the prospect of being dumped by the Greens increased, he had a change of heart on Wednesday evening and called an emergency cabinet meeting. Just before it, he invited Harvie and Slater to Bute House to sack them.
What happens now
With 63 MSPs, the SNP remains the biggest party at Holyrood. But that leaves them two short of a majority.
The Greens had allowed first Sturgeon and then Yousaf to pass their budgets through parliament. Many expected the Greens would still back their nationalist allies given they both support independence rather than risk the future of a pro-Scecit majority.
But the anger from Harvie and Slater on Thursday was clear. They savaged Yousaf, saying he could no longer be trusted and questioning his ability to lead.
It leaves him in danger of becoming a lame duck FM if he cannot get others on board. The sole Alba Party member Ash Regan, who defected from the SNP, could offer one route, and minorities have operated at Holyrood before, but given the Nats have spent much of the past few years fomenting division, it is unlikely they have many friends left elsewhere in the chamber.

A groundswell of feeling that the SNP should ditch the Bute House Agreement is growing among Nationalist MSPs, with one politician saying they were being dictated to be "f***ing cranks". The future of the deal is hanging in the balance with Scottish Green members becoming disillusioned with the arrangement.
Agreed by Nicola Sturgeon in 2021 to prop up an SNP government, the coalition handed ministerial roles to Scottish Green co-leaders Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater. Initially backed by party members, relations are now strained after the Scottish Government ditched a key climate target.
Arguments over the response to the Cass Review into transgender healthcare has also highlighted differences, with the Greens accused of being anti-science by refusing the accept the report. Calls are now growing for Humza Yousaf to give his party members a say on the future of the Bute House Agreement.
While the First Minister backs it, others have said it has led to a drop in SNP support in the polls. And one MSP was quoted by political columnist Euan McColm as asking how the party "ended up with a leader being held to ransom by f***ing cranks".
Writing in The Scotsman, McColm said there was a growing feeling within the backbench ranks that the time had come to end the deal. Another MSP said: "We've been pathetic on the Cass stuff. It was bad enough Humza ignoring it for days but then to have Harvie out there rubbishing it is intolerable."
McColm quotes another source saying things had changed since Ms Sturgeon secured the backing of the Green group. They said: "Is Humza really going to wait for weeks to see whether a bunch of Green members give him what he wants? Are we really letting these people dictate to us? He should give us back some dignity and end the Bute House Agreement now."
We reported on Wednesday that a poll in the pro-Scexit The National suggested almost two-thirds of independence supporters wanted the deal scrapped. But despite the pressure, Mr Yousaf has continued to back his partners.
Spaking earlier this week, he said: "I hope that cooperation agreement will continue and I hope that Greens members will also see the benefit of that cooperation."
