He started by threatening to fire the entire White House communications staff. It escalated from there.

On Wednesday night, I received a phone call from Anthony Scaramucci, the new White House communications director. He wasn't happy. Earlier in the night, I'd?tweeted, citing a "senior White House official," that Scaramucci was having?dinner?at the White House with?President Trump, the First Lady, Sean Hannity, and the former Fox News executive Bill Shine. It was an interesting group, and raised some questions. Was Trump getting strategic advice from Hannity? Was he considering hiring Shine? But Scaramucci had his own question-for me.
"Who leaked that to you?" he asked. I said I couldn't give him that information. He responded by threatening to fire the entire White House communications staff. "What I'm going to do is, I will eliminate everyone in the comms team and we'll start over," he said. I laughed, not sure if he really believed that such a threat would convince a journalist to reveal a source. He continued to press me and complain about the staff he's inherited in his new job. "I ask these guys not to leak anything and they can't help themselves," he said. "You're an American citizen, this is a major catastrophe for the American country. So I'm asking you as an American patriot to give me a sense of who leaked it."

"Is it an assistant to the President?" he asked. I again told him I couldn't say. "O.K., I'm going to fire every one of them, and then you haven't protected anybody, so the entire place will be fired over the next two weeks."
I asked him why it was so important for the dinner to be kept a secret. Surely, I said, it would become public at some point. "I've asked people not to leak things for a period of time and give me a honeymoon period," he said. "They won't do it." He was getting more and more worked up, and he eventually convinced himself that Priebus was my source.

"They'll all be fired by me," he said. "I fired one guy the other day. I have three to four people I'll fire tomorrow. I'll get to the person who leaked that to you. Reince Priebus-if you want to leak something-he'll be asked to resign very shortly." The issue, he said, was that he believed Priebus had been worried about the dinner because he hadn't been invited. "Reince is a fucking paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac," Scaramucci said. He channelled Priebus as he spoke: " 'Oh, Bill Shine is coming in. Let me leak the fucking thing and see if I can cock-block these people the way I cock-blocked Scaramucci for six months.' " (Priebus did not respond to a request for comment.)
Scaramucci was particularly incensed by a Politico?report?about his financial-disclosure form, which he viewed as an illegal act of retaliation by Priebus. The reporter said Thursday morning that the document was publicly available and she had obtained it from the Export-Import Bank. Scaramucci didn't know this at the time, and he insisted to me that Priebus had?leaked?the document, and that the act was "a felony."

A Fox News associate producer claimed in a lawsuit on Monday that Judge Andrew Napolitano sexually harassed him and "numerous young male employees," allegations that he claims exposes the so-called "zero tolerance policy" announced by CEO Suzanne Scott as a "fraud."

"The Worst-Kept Secret at Fox News"

The producer also claims that, in the "worst-kept secret at Fox News," the network falsely denied that its president Jay Wallace had an affair with a female subordinate, even though "numerous female employees" overheard "romantic phone conversations" she had with him inside a bathroom stall of the women's restroom.

"As explained in this complaint, sexual harassment, sex discrimination, and racial discrimination are still tolerated at Fox, and Ms. Scott and her executive team will bend over backwards to protect such behavior so long as it is perpetrated by senior management or prominent on-air personalities," Fox producer John Fawcett's lawsuit claims in its introduction.

In the wake of #MeToo scandals that brought down Roger Ailes, Bill Shine, and Bill O'Reilly, Fox News hired Scott to clean up shop in 2018. Since that time, similar lawsuits have continued to hit the courts, including one accusing ex-anchor Ed Henry of rape and the network of sex trafficking. That civil case remains pending, but earlier this month, Fox settled claims by ex-Fox Nation host Britt McHenry. She had claimed that her former co-host George Murdoch (also known as the wrestler "Tyrus") sent her inappropriate text messages, creating a hostile work environment allegedly tolerated by the network.

Filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday, Fawcett's complaint accuses Fox of the same old practices of protecting their stars like Napolitano and Larry Kudlow, the latter of whom Fawcett claims to have overheard using "ethnic slurs" and "sexually inappropriate comments about women."

Fox News vigorously denied those allegations in an unsigned statement, which notably said that the network has parted ways with its senior judicial analyst.

"Upon first learning of John Fawcett's allegations against Judge Andrew Napolitano, FOX News Media immediately investigated the claims and addressed the matter with both parties," the statement read. "The network and Judge Napolitano have since parted ways. We take all allegations of misconduct seriously, are committed to providing a safe, transparent, and collaborative workplace environment for all our employees and took immediate, appropriate action. Furthermore, the additional allegations laid out in this claim are completely baseless and nothing more than a desperate attempt at a payday by trying the case in the court of public opinion as the complaint does not meet the standards of the law. We will defend the matter vigorously in court."

Fox News Network is the sole defendant in the lawsuit, accused of violating New York City and state human rights law barring gender discrimination.

"They Look Clean, But They Get Really Dirty"

Two other men previously accused Napolitano of inappropriate sexual behavior before, including a New Jersey waiter who claimed the judge "forced" him to engage in a "bizarre sex act." Napolitano's then-attorney Tom Clare depicted that lawsuit as a "copycat" to allegations filed by Charles Corbishley, who had claimed the judge coerced him into performing oral sex in exchange for a more lenient sentence. Clare called Corbishley a "career criminal."

Both of those lawsuits were filed in September 2020, and Napolitano cast them both as smear campaigns.

In his complaint, Fawcett alleges that Napolitano's reputation for sexual harassing young men was well-established by 2019, the year Fawcett says he began working for Fox Business Network.

That autumn, Fawcett claims he encountered Judge Napolitano on an elevator at Fox News headquarters in Manhattan.

"Even though the two had never met previously, Judge Napolitano stood awkwardly close to the plaintiff, started stroking his arm, and asked who the plaintiff worked for," the lawsuit states.

After Fawcett replied that he worked for former Fox Business host Lou Dobbs, Judge Napolitano asked whether he was looking for a new job, and conversation turned to Dobbs's horse farm and Napolitano's maple syrup farm, according to the complaint.

"You see these hands?" Judge Napolitano allegedly told Fawcett suggestively. "They look clean, but they get really dirty."

According to the complaint, Napolitano invited Fawcett to his New Jersey farm or Manhattan apartment, and Fawcett "politely excused himself" after the elevator reached his floor.

"When the plaintiff reached his office and told his co-workers about the encounter, they immediately started laughing," the lawsuit states. "It was common knowledge that Judge Napolitano sexually harassed young men at Fox News, and it had even happened to one of the plaintiff's co-workers. The plaintiff did not initially report the incident to human resources, however, because he did not want to jeopardize his career at Fox, but he did tell Mr. Dobbs."

Fawcett claims Dobbs reported allegations to Fox's chief human resources officer Kevin Lord, who allegedly responded: "Well, what are you going to do about it?"

After the previous lawsuits against Napolitano came out, Fox allegedly footed the judge's legal Bills, even though neither lawsuit involved the network.

"As usual, Ms. Scott has been protecting her boys," the complaint states.

"Protecting Profits and Preventing Embarrassment"

Fawcett's lawsuit appears to aim far wider than the allegations of "unwanted gender-based conduct" against him, filled with gossip and news reporting relating to other staffers cited in service of his thesis that Fox has not reformed.

Chief among these apparent digressions are his claims against Wallace, whom the network denied had an affair with a subordinate.

"FOX conducted a full and independent investigation of the claims against Jay Wallace - he was cleared of any wrongdoing and the allegations are false," the network said at the time.

Calling the denial "flagrantly dishonest," Fawcett claims Wallace's purported mistress was transferred from his office to a journalism role at the network's website, edging out a "more senior female investigative reporter" for the position. Wallace served as the executive vice president for news and editorial at the time of Fox's investigation, and Fawcett claims that Fox's CEO Scott promoted him to president following that investigation.

"By covering up for Mr. Wallace and Judge Napolitano, Fox News has shown that its 'zero tolerance policy' is a joke," the complaint states. "Even now, Fox News covers up sexual misconduct in the interests of protecting profits and preventing embarrassment."

Fawcett also claims that Larry Kudlow, whose show he still works for, made "inappropriate comments about women and minorities during phone conferences with staff." The complaint quotes Kudlow as musing to staff that he would like to have a "three-way" with a Fox anchor, while a senior vice president was on the line.

The lawsuit also accuses former Trump economic advisor Kudlow of making bigoted comments about Rep. Maria Eliva Salazar and Rep. Byron Donalds, both Republicans from Florida. Fawcett claims Kudlow responded to a scheduled appearance by Salazar, the daughter of Cuban exiles, by saying: "Why don't we just let the Mexicans in?" and referred to the African-American Donalds simply as "the black."

"No, no, no, I don't want the black on the show," Kudlow said on April 29, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit claims that Donalds's appearance was cancelled on that day.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany in financial disclosure documents published Tuesday indicated that she had an agreement in place to join Fox News this month, but a source familiar with the matter says those discussions are now paused.

McEnany listed an "employment agreement with Fox News, starting work in January" on her termination report upon leaving the government. The report was obtained and published by watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).

A Fox News spokesperson said McEnany "is not currently an employee or contributor" at the network.

McEnany and Fox held initial conversations after the 2020 election about a role, but those discussions were paused, according to a source familiar with the matter. The network remains open to hiring her in the future, however, the source said, given it does "not condone cancel culture."

McEnany did not respond to a request for comment.

Should the former press secretary land at Fox, it would mark the latest instance of a Trump administration official joining the conservative-leaning network.

One of McEnany's predecessors, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, took a role as a Fox contributor after leaving the White House in 2019. Sanders has since launched a bid for Arkansas governor and is no longer working at the network.

Senior Trump adviser Hope Hicks took a job at Fox Corp. upon leaving the White House in 2018, only to return to working for Trump later in his term.

Trump had also hired Bill Shine from Fox News to work as White House communications director ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Former Trump administration officials John Bolton, Scott Atlas and others made frequent appearances on the network before joining the government.

McEnany previously worked as a contributor at CNN and as a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee before taking the press secretary job in the spring of 2020.

She was a fierce and unflinching advocate of the president in her taxpayer-funded role, defending him from the podium through his missteps in the coronavirus pandemic response, his forceful removal of peaceful protesters from Lafayette Square for a photo op and his efforts to sow doubt about the outcome of the 2020 election.

McEnany made frequent appearances on Fox News over the past two years, including several on prime-time opinion programming where she pushed unsubstantiated claims about widespread election fraud.

Trump himself had been at odds with Fox in the weeks before and after the election, regularly complaining that the outlet was not being sufficiently supportive of him.

Ellen Ratner passed this information to Bill Shine, the then President of Fox News and to reporter Malia Zimmerman, who published the Fox News story about Seth Rich's murder. Ellen Ratner didn't want to get personally involved so she used the defendant in the lawsuit as a go-between to the Rich family. Seth Rich's parents already know that their sons are the sources for the DNC emails leak and not the Russian government, but are covering it up because of the polarized political environment following the 2016 election. Donna Brazile, McCabe, and the D.C. Mayor led the cover-up of the murder side of the leak story.

Top Melania Trump aide emerges as favorite to become new White House press secretary

Stephanie Grisham, spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump, is emerging as the top candidate to replace outgoing White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, according to sources familiar with the selection process. Grisham, a former Trump campaign aide who has served in the White House since Trump took office, is known as a shrewd tactician loyal to the first family. But significantly, she meets President Trump's top criteria: that Sanders' replacement be a woman. "When he says he wants a woman, he wants a woman," a source familiar with the selection process told the Washington Examiner. A second source, a former Trump aide, said "the president really wants to have a woman fill this role," adding Trump has mentioned both Grisham and former State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert as possible successors to Sanders.

Grisham, 42, is a beloved East Wing figure and has many supporters close to Trump. In November, she issued an unusual statement calling for the ouster of Mira Ricardel, a National Security Council official with whom the first lady clashed on a trip to Africa. Ricardel quickly lost her job. A single mother of two sons, she followed Trump to Washington from Arizona, where she worked for state Republicans including then-Attorney General Tom Horne. In 2012, she was part of GOP nominee Mitt Romney's campaign. While working as a traveling press secretary on the 2016 Trump campaign, she was so dedicated she did not see her son, Jake - who was then eight - for five-and-a-half months. Her older son has now graduated from high school.

A shortlist of four contenders in the aftermath of Sanders' surprise departure announcement Thursday featured Grisham, Nauert, outgoing Treasury Department spokesman Tony Sayegh, and Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley. But Nauert was forced in February to withdraw from a nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, reportedly due to employing a foreign nanny. A source said the issue that derailed Nauert is serious enough to keep her out of the running, however. "The reasons she had to pull out from the U.N. would be the same reasons she couldn't do it," said a source close to senior State Department officials.

The first source said of Grisham: "She handles herself well on TV, but the press secretary job has turned more into a comms than a press role. And there are some people who are good on camera but not so good at communications strategy. She's a killer on both fronts." "[Grisham] would be fine in front of the podium, and she would be fine on strategic issues. I don't think Sarah was as sharp as her. Grisham won't hesitate to slide that knife into someone's back, which is what you need. This is the White House." Sanders said she plans to leave at the end of June, establishing a short window to pick her replacement.

Grisham, the first source said, may take a sharper approach to "reporters being unfair" and "people in the administration doing things they shouldn't." They imagine Grisham "basically being the president's press and political secret service - if you need to shiv someone, you do it." The second source said Sayegh "is awesome and would be the best choice," but is not a woman, and that "I don't hear Hogan being discussed as a real option." They noted that although Trump seems likely to pick a woman, it was possible Trump could end up "thinking way outside the box" and "further redefine the role."

Sanders has gone nearly 100 days without an official White House briefing, opting instead for informal driveway gaggles. Trump tweeted this year that he asked Sanders to cease briefings because "the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately." In another break from tradition, Trump has not filled the vacant White House communications director role since the exit of former Fox News executive Bill Shine in March. A third source, a former White House official, said they heard Grisham has a "good shot" but that there's "nothing final." A fourth source, who worked on the Trump campaign, said "I've heard is that Stephanie is open to the position." Several sources say they have not heard Gidley mentioned as a serious contender.

President Donald Trump had a secret dinner Friday night at his Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles with Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch and Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law - flying there immediately after inspecting his 'border wall' with Mexico.
A photo posted to Instagram shows Trump speaking to Murdoch at a large table while House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Kushner, a White House adviser, sit along with them.
Trump was at his golf club for nearly two hours on Friday night, according to the pool of reporters traveling with him, and the White House merely said he was having a 'private dinner.'
While the administration declined to say who Trump ate with, the photo shows the close relationship between the president and the man who founded the cable news channel that has been supportive of his presidency.
The photo of the gathering was posted by Teresa Scott, whose son Joshua Scott is a Republican congressional candidate in the Los Angeles area.
The dinner took place after Trump got his first in-person look at a section of the 30-foot 'bollard wall' his administration is building along the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday and then attended a fundraiser in Santa Monica.
Also at the table appeared to be Lili Amini, the general manager at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Hope Hicks was reported to be at the dinner too, according to a Washington Post reporter, although she was not captured on camera.
Hicks, the former White House communications director, is now chief communications person for Fox.
Her move to Fox after her White House tenure plus the fact that several Fox personalities - including former news chief Bill Shine and former anchor Heather Nauert - have worked for the administration highlight the ties between the two entities.
Trump and Murdoch speak on the phone often, the New Yorker revealed last month in its look at the ties between Fox News and the White House.
The president is a frequent viewer of Fox News, particularly its morning show 'Fox & Friends,' and is close to host Sean Hannity, who has appeared at Trump campaign rallies and dined with the president at Mar-a-Lago.
Kushner has also worked hard to win over Murdoch and speaks to him nearly daily, the magazine noted.

"The clash between Mr. Scaramucci and Mr. Priebus offers a case study in how the Trump White House operates, a conflict divorced from facts, untethered from the basics of how government works, enabled by the lack of any organizational structure and driven by ambition, fear, animosity and envy.

The genesis was a dinner hosted Wednesday night by Mr. Trump at the White House that included Mr. Scaramucci; Sean Hannity and Kimberly Guilfoyle, the Fox News hosts; and Bill Shine, a former Fox executive.

Ms. Guilfoyle told the president that Mr. Priebus was a problem and a leaker, someone who was not serving his agenda, according to a person briefed on the conversation. (A Fox spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.)

Mr. Scaramucci grew angry afterward that Mr. Lizza had learned that the dinner was taking place and that Politico had obtained his government financial disclosure form. At that point, he called Mr. Lizza, demanding to know his source, whom the reporter refused to divulge.

"O.K., I'm going to fire every one of them, and then you haven't protected anybody, so the entire place will be fired over the next two weeks," Mr. Scaramucci replied.

After hanging up, Mr. Scaramucci posted a message on Twitter asserting that the "leak" of his disclosure form was a "felony" and that he would seek an F.B.I. investigation. He included Mr. Priebus's Twitter handle, a move that was interpreted as blaming the chief of staff.

But it was no leak. The disclosure form is supposed to be made public under federal law and all Politico did was ask for it under normal procedures. Mr. Scaramucci deleted the tweet. But on Thursday morning, he called into CNN with Mr. Trump's encouragement, and threw down the gauntlet with Mr. Priebus on live television.

"We have had odds. We have had differences," Mr. Scaramucci said on CNN. "When I said we were brothers from the podium, that's because we're rough on each other. Some brothers are like Cain and Abel. Other brothers can fight with each other and get along. I don't know if this is reparable or not. That will be up to the president."

Some of Mr. Trump's supporters said Mr. Scaramucci was causing more harm than good.

"I would say right now that he's being more pugnacious than effective," Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, told the radio host Laura Ingraham. "I think he ought to slow down a little bit and learn what he's doing."

White House Doubles Down on Bid to Strip Acosta's Hard Pass

The Trump administration renewed its efforts to suspend the hard pass of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta on Nov. 16 shortly after receiving a court order to restore the credentials, according to letters and emails revealed in court filings on Nov. 19.

In a Nov. 16 letter (pdf), top White House communications officials Bill Shine and Sarah Sanders inform Acosta of a preliminary decision to suspend his recently-restored hard pass and inform the correspondent that he can appeal the decision in writing.

The White House letter addressed the issues regarding Acosta's constitutional rights to due process which U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly cited in ordering the White House to restore the reporter's credentials. Kelly said during a hearing on Nov. 16 that the White House's "belated efforts were hardly sufficient to satisfy due process."

Acosta will retain his restored hard pass while the court's temporary order is in effect. In the meantime, having addressed the due process issues, the letter from Shine and Sanders may narrow the scope of the lawsuit to CNN's assertion that the White House is violating Acosta's right to free speech.

In issuing the temporary order, Kelly, a Trump appointee, did not rule on whether or not the White House violated Acosta's First Amendment rights.

Acosta's attorney contested the White House's renewed effort to strip the correspondent of his hard pass, writing in a letter on Nov. 18 (pdf) that "any action to suspend his hard pass based on the President's November 7, 2018, press conference would unquestionably violate his constitutional rights."

"Put simply, the White House's illegal reaction after the November 7 press conference cannot be made legal now by applying after-the-fact concocted process," attorney Theodore Boutrous Jr. wrote.

In explaining the decision to revoke Acosta' hard pass, Shine and Sanders wrote that the correspondent violated a set of unwritten rules of decorum for the press. According to the White House, there is "widely shared understanding" that each reporter who is called upon during a press conference may ask one question and, if permitted by the question taker, ask a follow-up question, after which the reporter is expected to yield the floor to colleagues and surrender the microphone.

"On November 7, 2018, you failed to abide by these basic, widely understood practices," Sanders and Shine wrote, detailing how Acosta refused to yield the floor and refused to physically surrender the microphone to a White House intern.

"No other reporter at the press conference made physical contact with our intern in that fashion or refused to yield the floor as you did."

According to a Nov. 19 court filing (pdf), CNN and the White House Correspondents' Association attempted to resolve the dispute with the White House by working cooperatively on a set of protocols for White House press conferences. Instead, the White House pressed on with efforts to strip Acosta's hard pass, according to the filing.

President Donald Trump and Sanders both said the White House is working on a set of rules for press conferences.

Attorneys for the White House responded to the claim by noting that the Trump administration was merely taking the steps explicitly suggested by the court. The White House is expected make a final determination about Acosta's hard pass at 3 p.m. on Nov. 19.

Secret Service agent who took Jim Acosta's press pass named in CNN lawsuit

CNN included a Secret Service agent as part of its lawsuit against the White House over the suspension of correspondent Jim Acosta's press credentials. The agent is only identified as "John Doe" in the official lawsuit, which also names White House officials Sarah Sanders, John Kelly and Bill Shine, as well as President Trump himself. The lawsuit, announced Tuesday, names the agent as a defendant for allegedly having blocked Acosta's access to the White House grounds.

The White House said last week that it was indefinitely suspending Acosta's credentials after a heated exchange between him and President Trump at a press conference. After Acosta was called on to ask a question, Trump attempted to move on to another reporter, but Acosta initially refused to relinquish the microphone to a White House intern. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders claimed that the suspension of Acosta's credentials because they would not tolerate him "placing his hands on" the intern.

Later that evening, Acosta tweeted a video of the Secret Service agent asking for his press pass as he tried to gain access to the White House grounds. "As I told the officer, I don't blame him. I know he's just doing his job," Acosta said.

"This morning, CNN filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in DC District Court," CNN's top executive Jeff Zucker said in a statement. "The White House has violated CNN and Jim Acosta's First Amendment rights of freedom of the press and Fifth Amendment rights to due process. We are demanding the immediate return of Jim's White House credential." The statement continued, "We have asked this court for an immediate restraining order requiring the pass be returned to Jim, and we will seek permanent relief as part of the process."

White House Correspondents' Association president Olivier Knox said that the group, which advocates for more access to the administration and represents much of the national news media, "strongly supports CNN's goal of seeing their correspondent regain a U.S. Secret Service security credential that the White House should not have taken away in the first place."

According to a press release, Hicks will join "New Fox", the company left following Twenty-First Century Fox's upcoming merger with Disney.

Lachlan Murdoch, son of Rupert Murdoch, will take the reigns at New Fox as chairman and CEO. The new company will include its major TV channels: Fox News, Fox Business Network, Fox broadcasting and sports networks FS1 and FS2.

The Untold Story About Bruce Ohr

All that you are seeing and hearing these days on Fox News about Bruce Ohr and his wife Nellie is only about Russian pro-Hillary Clinton and anti-Trump Russian collusion with former British spy Christopher Steele and Fusion GPS? But, there is a much bigger story that Fox News has buried, perhaps because I have been a vocal critic of the network, having found it over the years, particularly under the previous "leadership" of Roger Ailes and his right-hand man Bill Shine, to not having acted ethically toward my clients and others. Much of this is chronicled in my autobiography "Whores: Why and How I Came to Fight the Establishment." Regrettably, President Trump, based on bad advice, recently appointed Shine Deputy White House Chief of Staff for communications. While at Fox News, Shine is alleged to have intimidated women to keep them quiet and covered up female sexual abuse allegations against Ailes and others at the network.

So let's forget about Fox News for now. The complete untold Bruce Ohr story concerns a man named Peter Paul. Toward the end of the Clinton administration, as President Clinton was leaving office in the months leading up to the January 20, 2000, inauguration of succeeding President George W. Bush, Peter contacted Judicial Watch, claiming that he had the "goods" on the Clintons, evidence that would finally result in criminal charges against them, with resulting jail time. These "goods" were canceled checks, photographs and other evidence showing that Peter was involved with the Clintons in putting on the Hollywood Tribute to Bill Clinton, where many famous movie stars and entertainers feted the 42nd president in Tinsel Town as he was about to leave office. Paul told us that the money he generated from the event, about $2 million, was intended to and was pumped into the then-U.S. Senate campaign of retiring First Lady Hillary Clinton. Interestingly, Paul also advised that he had used a company he created, Stan Lee Media, with the famous comic book genius Stan Lee of Spiderman fame, to generate the monies to help elect Hillary.

If Paul's allegations were true, these monies constituted illegal "hard money" campaign contributions and could potentially be criminal in nature, as the legal limit to contribute to a political campaign at that time was generally a mere $2,000. But what was the motive for Paul to come see me at Judicial Watch, a fierce perceived adversary of the Clintons? What Peter told us was that he was currently under criminal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for alleged securities fraud in the use of Stan Lee Media to put on the Hollywood Tribute. In exchange for providing evidence of Clinton crimes that could ultimately hold them accountable under the rule of law, Paul, as a quid pro quo, asked that we represent him to try to quash DOJ's criminal investigation and, if an indictment later resulted, to wage a vigorous criminal defense for him in federal court.

In this regard, I approached the Bush Justice Department, then headed by Attorney General John Ashcroft, to seek a cooperation agreement which would allow Paul to get immunity for his alleged crimes in exchange for him providing the evidence to indict and convict Hillary Clinton for criminal campaign finance offenses. And who did the attorney general assign, through the chief of DOJ's Criminal Division Michael Chertoff, to head this probe, none other than his chief of the department's Organized Crime Task Force, Bruce Ohr.
In addition to providing evidence of Clinton crimes, Paul also came forward and revealed the criminal activities of a man who was a dual Mafia-FBI informant who had somehow had been embedded into Stan Lee Media. Importantly, this Mafia- FBI informant - someone in the mold of infamous Whitely Bolger, Jr. in Boston - had also worked under both Chertoff and Ohr at DOJ.

But rather than using the evidence that Paul provided to Ohr to pursue the Clintons and the dual Mafia-FBI informant, the Bush Justice Department indicted Paul instead. At the time of the indictment, Paul was in Brazil promoting another one of his companies. He was arrested by Brazilian law enforcement at the request of DOJ and incarcerated in a Brazilian prison to await extradition to the United States.

Spicer on White House Press Interactions: 'Too Often It's Now Turning into a Circus'
WASHINGTON - Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway told PJM that President Trump is "not afraid to answer questions," which is "part of the reason he got elected," and asserted that no reporters were "banned" from White House open press events on Wednesday.

CNN White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins said she was told by White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Bill Shine that she would not be allowed to cover a Rose Garden press availability with the president on Wednesday after earlier asking Trump a series of questions in the Oval Office that he did not answer. Collins was the rotating pool reporter at the time, meaning she was tasked with asking questions on behalf of the press corps at that availability.

Both CNN and Fox News have criticized the White House for the way the situation was handled.

"We stand in strong solidarity with CNN for the right to full access for our journalists as part of a free and unfettered press," said Fox News president Jay Wallace on Wednesday.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier echoed the same sentiment, which was met with some criticism from conservatives on social media.

"We obviously are not afraid of questions. Donald Trump is not afraid to answer questions, it's part of how he got elected. He takes his case directly to the people. I'm certainly not afraid to answer anybody's questions, but there's a big difference between asking a question and being politely asked to leave the Oval Office and asking six more questions. There's an intransigence and a disrespect involved there," Conway told PJM at the Trump International Hotel during a Thursday evening event held for the launch of former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's new book The Briefing.

"It's not about asking questions, nobody was banned, I wasn't there, I wasn't part of it," she added. "But I can tell you it wasn't about asking questions, we answer questions all the time... It's about an intransigence and disrespect for being a guest in the Oval Office. Those questions could have been asked at a different time. The press was asked to leave. The press was asked to leave again and again and again."
Spicer addressed the conservatives criticizing Fox News for standing in solidarity with CNN.

"There are two issues at hand. One is making sure we maintain an open and accessible government for the press corps to cover the actions. But, second, I think there's clearly a discussion that needs to happen about the level of respect and professionalism with respect to journalists' behavior," Spicer said during an interview with PJM.

When asked to provide an example to support his argument, Spicer replied, "I mean, I just think that when you get up and yell at the president of the United States as one member and a couple in particular have done, that's just a level of disrespect. When you're having a press conference, especially with another foreign leader, it's the president and that leader that calls on folks, and they put their hand up and act like responsible, respectful adults. And too often it's now turning into a circus where these members of the media are jumping up and down."

Collins got called to Shine's new West Wing office soon after the staff announced a surprise press event in the Rose Garden, where Trump spoke about talks to avert a trade war with the European Union - without taking any questions

'They said 'You are dis-invited from the press availability in the Rose Garden today,'' Collins told CNN reported.

'They said that the questions I asked were inappropriate for that venue. And they said I was shouting.'

Collins said she responded: 'You're banning me from an event because you didn't like the questions I asked.'

[Collins] asked about former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who can be heard on a tape leaked to CNN talking with Trump about a payment relating to a Playboy model who claims she had an affair with Trump.

Bill Shine Named Assistant to President Trump, Deputy Chief of Staff For Comms

It's official: Former Fox News co-president Bill Shine is joining the Trump administration Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications. The White House made the news official this afternoon:

Rumors about Shine joining the administration in a comms role have been swirling for months now. He had reportedly taken himself out of the running for the top communications jobs back in March, but last week Politico reported that the hire would be imminent.

Shine's backstory is well known to those in the media business. He had a 20+ year tenure at Fox News beginning in 1996 (the year of FNC's launch) before leaving in May 2017. He started as producer of Hannity & Colmes, and was promoted to executive producer, then vp of production, evp of programming and was named Fox News co-president in September 2016, a tenure that lasted just 7 months.

Reports that Shine was about to be fired from Fox influenced his friend and colleague Sean Hannity to tweet: "Somebody HIGH UP AND INSIDE FNC is trying to get an innocent person fired. i pray this is NOT true because if it is, that's the total end of the FNC as we know it."
