Trump to put Dan Scavino in charge of hiring at White House

President Donald Trump plans to appoint Dan Scavino, a longtime loyalist and White House deputy chief of staff, to run the Presidential Personnel Office, empowering him with the power to decide who can and cannot serve in the administration.
"Dan Scavino is one of President Trump's most trusted and longest serving advisors," said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt."There is nobody better to ensure the president's administration is staffed with the most qualified, competent, and America First-driven workers. There is much still to be done and Dan's leadership will ensure the highest quality, most dedicated workforce ever."
Scavino replaces Sergio Gor, who was tapped last week to serve as ambassador to India and as special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
Gor endeared himself to the president and his family for adopting a zero tolerance policy toward job-seekers who had been critical of Trump in the past, often scouring their social media posts and occasionally intervening to block hirings. But his aggressive approach also earned him detractors.
Notably, former special adviser ElonMusk slammed Gor as "a snake,"accusing him of convincing Trump to pull the nomination of a Musk confidant to serve as the next NASA administrator.(any friend of Musk cannot be trusted, the billionaire tech bros are there for the influence and money)
Scavino is one of Trump's closest advisers, dating back to the first administration where he served in a variety of different communications roles. In the West Wing,Scavino occupies one of the closest offices to the Oval Office, serving as one of the most influential players in the MAGA movement.
Some MAGA influencers hoped Laura Loomer, another Trump enforcer, would land the role. Loomer told POLITICO it would be an "honor" to serve in the administration if offered the position. But several reports have indicated senior White House officials are wary or incorporating her bomb-throwing tactics into the daily operation.
(Never should Loomer work there, she can be the paid vetter and not do it in WH. She's got serious mental problems but she's great at investigating.)

The White House lashed out at a House Democrat who wrote on X that Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller - who is Jewish - should "go back to 1930's Germany."
"What an absolutely disgusting comment from a Congressman to a Jewish WH official," Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly wrote on X on Thursday, quoting Rep. Mark Pocan's (D-Wis.) post."Pocan must apologize - not just to Stephen, but to his constituents - and then seek professional help. This crazed antisemitic hatred from Dems emboldens radicals to target Jewish Americans."
Pocan's Wednesday post was a response to one by Miller where he said New York City is "the clearest warning yet" of what happens to societies that fail to "control migration."
Though not explicitly stated, Miller was likely referring to Zohran Mamdani's apparent Democratic primary win in New York City's mayoral race earlier this week. Mamdani, who is Muslim, immigrated to the U.S. from Uganda when he was seven. Mamdani has been the subject of xenophobic attacks during his campaign, including from some conservative figures who said New York City would see another Sept. 11 if he becomes mayor.
Pocan declined to apologize, instead saying he is not engaging in a "false debate" with the "people who make up the racist base of the GOP."
"I'm confident normal people are as troubled by his views as I am, and understand he is doing Nazi-like things to people in the name of his extremist views," Pocan said in a text message to POLITICO. "They rounded up people in the 30's, just as they are today with zero due process.

Kari Lake heads to Capitol Hill after gutting an agency Trump hates
Lake, who lost two statewide elections in Arizona, will headline a hearing shortly after cutting jobs at the U.S. Agency for Global Media.

Kari Lake, the staunch Trump ally and senior adviser at the U.S. Agency for Global Media, will tout massive cuts to an agency that's been a target of Republican hostility for years on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Lake's testimony to the House Foreign Affairs Committee -for a hearing entitled "Spies, Lies, and Mismanagement: Examining the U.S. Agency for Global Media's Downfall" - is expected to shine a spotlight on her role in President Donald Trump's broader effort to downsize federal bureaucracy, reduce government spending and reprimand media outlets the president views as unfriendly.
Lake announced last week that USAGM eliminated 1,400 positions - an 85 percent cut of the personnel from March, when Trump signed an executive order gutting the agency. Lake said in a memo Friday that 250 employees remain at the agency, which directly oversees Voice of America and funds several other independent broadcast outlets stationed around the world.
USAGM is also clawing back $17 million previously allocated to those stationsand redirected to unspecified "mission support." In March,Lake announced the agency was terminating its lease in a Washington office building, citing its cost.
Lake said in Friday's memo her testimony to Congress will "expose the USAGM'srecord of waste, mismanagement, self-dealing, and national security failures."
After rising to national prominence on the backof two failed statewide campaigns in Arizonain 2022 and 2024 - in which she aligned herself closely to Trump, including by making false claims denying the results of the 2020 presidential election - Lake reportedly angled for a role overseeing VOA to draw on her experience as a former local news anchor. (Apparently she is incompetent by Politico because AZ rigged their voting system)
Before stepping into her role at USAGM, Lake appeared to make an argument for recasting VOA as a Trump-friendly global media outlet, rather than hollowing out the network.
"We are fighting an information war, and there's no better weapon than the truth, and I believe VOA can be that weapon," she said at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, about a week before she was appointed as a senior adviser to the agency.
But since then,she's executed the dismantling of an agencyRepublicans, including Trump, have held in contempt dating back to the first Trump administration. During Trump's first term, his nomination of conservative ally Michael Pack to serve as CEO of USAGM was stalled for weeks by Senate Democrats. In being appointed to current her role as senior adviser, Lake has avoided the Senate confirmation process.
Lake's gouging of USAGM allows her to deliver a victory for Trump in his ongoing war with several major mainstream media organizations - which he's greatly accelerated since returning to office. The Trump administration has fought to keep the Associated Press from covering events on White House grounds.
TheWhite House has pushed Congress to codify over $1 billion in spending cuts to NPR and PBS, while the president continues to fight legal battles seeking damages for various outlets' coverage of him.
