Alison Jane Cooper(born 31 March 1966)[2] is a British businesswoman. She is the former chief executive officer (CEO) of Imperial Brands, the world's fourth-largest tobacco company as measured by market share. In February 2020, it was announced that she would be leaving as CEO in October 2020.[3]
Early life
Cooper grew up in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, in a family where "money was stretched".[1] She was educated at the nearby Tiffin Girls' School, an all-girls' grammar school, and later gained a bachelor's degree in mathematics and statistics from Bristol University.[4] After she gained her degree she spent a gap year teaching in Kenya on a voluntary basis.
Career
Cooper went to work for accountancy firm Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Bristol as an auditor.[1] This company later became PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked in acquisitions and strategy planning.
She joined Imperial Tobacco in 1999 as group finance manager and was promoted to group financial controller in 2001.[5] She rose to chief operating officer in 2009, before becoming chief executive officer in 2010.[6] Cooper took over from Gareth Davis, who had held the position for fourteen years.[7] She said at the time, "We need a change in mindset. Tobacco has been traditional in the way it has operated. We want to move from being a tobacco manufacturer to a FMCG [fast-moving consumer goods] company."[7]
Cooper was a non-executive director of Inchcape plc from July 2009 until she stepped down in 2017.[8][9]
In October 2012, Cooper noted that she and Burberry's Angela Ahrendts were the only two female CEOs running FTSE 100 Index companies.[4] Until 2020, Cooper was one of only 5 other female CEOs among UK's top 100 companies.[10]
In February 2013, she was assessed by Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4 as one of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom.[11]
In October 2019, following a profits warning a few days earlier, Alison Cooper announced that she would step down as a CEO once a replacement was found.[12] She is considered the second high profile exit to the company.[10] Her successor, Stefan Bomhard, CEO of Inchcape plc, was announced on 3 February 2020.[13]
Personal life
Cooper is married to an accountant with two daughters.[4]

The old CEO of Burberry, Angela Ahrendts worked for Les Wexner.
Career
Ahrendts moved to New York City to work in the fashion industry.[1] After a series of positions including merchandising at bra maker Warnaco,[1] Ahrendts joined Donna Karan International in 1989, working to develop the luxury brand internationally through both wholesale and licensing.[13] In 1996 she was hired at Henri Bendel by Leslie Wexner to expand Bendel stores to 50 new markets, but the project was cancelled by the board of directors two years later.[1]
In 1998, she joined Fifth & Pacific Companies as vice president of corporate merchandising and design. In 2001, she was promoted to senior vice president of corporate merchandising and group president, responsible for the merchandising of the group's 20 plus brands including Laundry by Shelli Segal, Lucky Brand Dungarees and the men's retail business of Liz Claiborne Inc. In 2002, she was promoted again to serve as executive vice president, with full responsibility for the complete line of Liz Claiborne products, services and development across both women's and men's lines.[13]

Tim Cook made over $136 million in total compensation in 2018, including a $12 million bonus (AAPL)
Apple revealed that CEO Tim Cook was paid $15,682,219 in 2018 in an SEC filing.
That doesn't include $121 million in Apple stock that vested last year.
The median Apple employee makes $55,426.
Lots of Apple employees work in its retail stores and with AppleCare support and they factor into the median employee compensation calculation.
It's good to be Apple CEO Tim Cook.
The leader of the iPhone giant made over $15 million in 2018, according to a new filing with the SEC.
That includes a base salary of $3 million, $12 million in bonus incentives for hitting performance goals related to sales and operating income, and $294,082 to pay for Cook's private jet fare.
That's not including the massive stock incentives that Apple also provides to its chief executive as part of a 2011 grant. Cook cashed in $121 million of stock that vested earlier this year. Cook still has over 1.5 million Apple shares that haven't vested, worth about $189 million at the current share price.
Apple also revealed on Tuesday how much money its median employee makes: $55,426. That means that of Apple's 132,000 total employees, half make less than that, and half make more. Lots of Apple employees work in its retail stores and with AppleCare and they factor into the median employee compensation.
For example, Facebook's median employee makes significantly more: Over $240,000 per year. But Facebook doesn't have retail or call center workers.
Cook's compensation, not counting his restricted stock, is 283 times what the median Apple employee makes, according to the filing. Other Apple executives were also well-paid last year. CFO Luca Maestri, general counsel Kate Adams, retail head Angela Ahrendts, and COO Jeff Williams all made over $26 million each, according to the SEC filing.
"We believe the compensation paid to our named executive officers for 2018 appropriately reflects and rewards their contribution to our performance," Apple states in the filing.
Cook said in 2015 that he plans to give his entire fortune to charity. In 2018, he donated nearly $5 million in Apple stock to an unspecified charity, according to an SEC filing.
