"The task force is mandated to explore both the therapeutic benefits of psychedelics and the legal pathways by which Minnesota's government can help patients successfully navigate the labyrinth of federal laws and regulations in order to get access to these potential medicines," Kurtis Hanna, a drug law reform lobbyist, told Marijuana Moment.

The bill calls for $338,000 of appropriations in 2024 and another $171,000 to fund the task force in 2025. It calls for "statutory changes necessary for the legalization of psychedelic medicine" and "state and local regulation of psychedelic medicine."

Walz signing the bill cleared the way for other leaders in his state to follow suit. In June 2023, Minneapolis' Democratic mayor Jacob Frey ordered law enforcement to deprioritize the use of city resources to enforce laws that criminalize buying psychedelics.

Frey's executive order stated "that the investigation and arrest of persons for planting, cultivating, purchasing, transporting, distributing, engaging in practices with, or possessing Entheogenic Plants or plant compounds which are on the federal Schedule 1 list shall be the lowest law enforcement priority for the City of Minneapolis."

The psychedelics task force will deliver a final report to the state with findings and recommendations by January 1, 2025, according to the bill. Advocates believe that these steps are clearing a path for the legalization of all psychedelic substances in Minnesota."If-and hopefully when-I'm re-elected and this task force gives their final report..my hope is to bring that legislation in that session," Democratic State Rep. Andy Smith told Marijuana Movement.

GRANBURY, Texas - Granbury ISD and Granbury police say they're investigating after eight Granbury Middle School students were hospitalized after eating cAndy distributed by a student Tuesday that was initially believed to contain a narcotic.
They say the students are OK.
An initial test of the cAndy tested negative for THC, but additional testing will follow as the investigation into the incident continues, the district and police say.
"We are taking every step necessary to ensure the safety of our students and prevent any future occurrences. We understand the seriousness of this matter and are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for your children," the statement, signed by Granbury Middle School principal Dr. Andy Smith, read.
"This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of educating our children about the potential dangers of unknown consumptions. As parents or guardians, it is crucial that we have open and honest conversations with our children about making responsible choices and being cautious when it comes to accepting or consuming anything unfamiliar. We kindly request that you take the time to talk to your child about these risks, even if they may seem harmless at first," the statement continued.
Two of the eighth grade students who ate the cAndy shared their experience after being taken to the emergency room. Hannah and Victoria, both 13, are home now.
"It tasted like toothpaste and it was really disgusting," said Hannah.
She told WFAA during an exclusive interview that their classmate told them the cAndy was a gift from her grandmother.
"It was gross, and it looked like a Twizzlers," said Victoria.
After eating the cAndy, Victoria and Hannah went to separate classes. But they, along with six other students, started feeling sick, especially Victoria. That's when she decided to ask her teacher if she could go see the school nurse.
"I did pass out, and I am not sure how many kids passed out," said Victoria.
Hannah said, "I felt really dizzy. My heart was going really fast. I felt like I was really sick."
As the school called parents, paramedics transported four students to the hospital. Parents took the other four to get checked out at the hospital.
When Hannah's mother got the phone call about what happened at her daughter's school, she not only learned her daughter was sick but also unresponsive. That scared her the most.
"It was a very scary moment. I thought I was going to lose my child," Kimberly told WFAA. "I want to get to the bottom of this for other kids out there and other parents."
Although Kimberly shared preliminary guesses from ER doctors, just like police, she and the parents of all of the students are waiting to learn exactly what made their children sick.
Kimberly said, "the doctor was very sure it was fentanyl."
Following the incident, the school district and police reiterated "the importance of reporting any suspicious or concerning behavior to a trusted adult, whether it be a teacher, a school staff member, or yourself."
"Rest assured, we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for your child. We will continue to work closely with the authorities, review our existing protocols, and implement any necessary additional measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future," the district's statement said.
The district asks those with questions or concerns to reach out to contact school administration.

Pedophile killed Prisoner pleads guilty to murdering Ashley Bropho in Hakea Prison

After the charge was read out to him, Martin said: "Very guilty."

Martin, who was already a sentenced prisoner, will be sentenced on the murder charge in September.

Before his death, Bropho had been due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to luring a nine-year-old girl from a park in Doubleview last year.

A court heard the 40-year-old offered the girl a fast-food hamburger before taking her hand and walking her back to his house.

He took her to his bedroom where he kissed her, exposed himself and tried to get her to perform a sex act.

The girl managed to escape after Bropho's carer arrived at the home.

Bropho grew up alongside Kelly, who abducted four-year-old Cleo Smith from her family's tent in WA's north in 2021 in a case that made headlines around the world.

Bropho's grandmother had taken in Kelly as a child because she said his mother had not wanted him.

At the time of Bropho's death, WA Prison Officers' Union secretary Andy Smith said tensions had been rising at Hakea Prison for several months.

"In response, our officers have been forced to make adjustments to procedures in order to run the prison," the statement read.

ENTIRE SCHOOL in Wyoming put on lockdown after one student refuses to wear face mask - and she gets arrested & fined over it

A 16-year-old high school girl was arrested and her entire school locked down, all over her refusal to wear a face mask. Her arrest caused outrage on the right, and conservatives have started chipping in to her legal defense.

Video footage captured on Thursday showed 16-year-old Grace Smith met with school officials and a police officer when she turned up at the doors of Laramie High School in Wyoming. Smith had already served two consecutive suspensions for refusing to wear a face mask in class - per school board requirements - and again attempted to enter the building unmasked.

She was given a $500 citation by a police officer, then was handcuffed and arrested when she refused to voluntarily leave the school. As Smith refused to leave, a loudspeaker announcement informed students that "we are in a lockdown, please stay in your rooms."

The arresting officer could be heard telling the teenager that the lockdown is her fault, but the teen refused to leave the building until she was led away in cuffs.

Andy Smith, Grace's father, told local news outlets that the family has retained an attorney to fight the citations. Later in the video of his daughter's arrest, Smith tells school district Superintendent Jubal Yennie that the suspensions "are just absurd to me," and "despicable."
