Pastor Derek Reimer, was also found guilty of breaching his bail conditions, which bar him from protesting any LGBTQ event. Supporters of one drag queen story hour actually threw Reimer to the ground when he opposed an event. A video of the apparent assault gained global attention.
"A judge found me guilty today of criminal harassment for expressing my opposition towards drag queen story hour to a library manager set on hosting the event. For posting the video of our interaction on Facebook, and saying we'll be back (to protest) if the event continues," Reimer told LifeSiteNews.
When not demonstrating at drag queen shows for kids, Reimer is the head of MISSION7, an evangelical ministry to the homeless. The charges relate to incidents that occurred in Calgary from March 25 to Apr. 2, 2024. Reimer could receive up to two years in jail at his sentencing hearing and he told LifeSite that he will "be posting the sentencing date soon."
The news could have been even worse for Reimer. Judge Molle did not find him guilty on charges of causing a disturbance and she dismissed two charges alleging that he caused a public disturbance with a loudspeaker outside of the drag queen story hours. Molle said these actions were not criminal.
Andrew Mackenzie, the lawyer who is representing Reimer said an appeal of the conviction is possible. Reimer was released on bail. 'Continue…

Shell CEO To Be Replaced By Renewables Boss

British energy giant Shell announced Thursday that CEO Ben van Beurden will step down at the end of 2022 and that his successor will be the company's renewables director.
FT reported preparations for van Beurden's departure began last May when Scottish businessman and former CEO of BHP Billiton Sir Andrew Mackenzie became Shell's chair.
Two unnamed sources told Reuters that Shell's board succession committee met several times this summer about Beurden's departure and potential successors.
They picked Wael Sawan, Shell's director of integrated gas, renewables, and energy solutions, to lead the company on Jan. 1.
"Sawan's appointment last year as head of the group's integrated gas and renewables business was viewed internally as a sign he was being groomed for the top job," FT noted.
Mackenzie commented on Sawan's appointment by saying he "is an exceptional leader, with all the qualities needed to drive Shell safely and profitably through its next phase of transition and growth."
Sawan said: "I'm looking forward to channeling the pioneering spirit and passion of our incredible people to rise to the immense challenges, and grasp the opportunities presented by the energy transition."
The outgoing CEO "can look back with great pride on an extraordinary 39-year Shell career," Mackenzie said, adding, over the last decade, van Beurden "has been in the vanguard for the transition of Shell to a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050."
Now, the dual Lebanese-Canadian national, Sawan, will accelerate Shell's strategy to become a net-zero company by 2050. Shell is expected to continue generating cash from its legacy oil business but invest heavily "over time" into gas, chemicals, renewables, and selling power.
Biraj Borkhataria, head of oil and gas equity research at RBC Capital Markets, said Sawan was "respected" by the investors.
"The shift is likely to be more of a continuation than revolution of the strategy put in place by van Beurden," Borkhataria said.
