"Take The Tragedy In Sri Lanka And Multiply By Ten": The Fed Just Lobbed A Financial Nuke That Will Obliterate The Global Economy
By Larry McDonald, author of the Bear Traps Report
We are living in a period of mass "Jonestown" economic delusion. Just twenty months ago - central bankers were offering to buy nearly every junk bond known to mankind, dramatically distorting the "true cost of capital." All the way from crypto to emerging markets - it was a moral hazard overdose. Everyone on earth was borrowing money at fantasy-land bond yields.
Now, the Fed is promising endless rate hikes and $1T of balance sheet reduction onto a planet with emerging market and Euro-zone credit markets in flames.
Listen, all I have is an economics degree from the University of Massachusetts, but after having spent the last 20 years trading bonds professionally and embarking on a 20k feet deep autopsy on the largest bank failure of all time - from my seat the current Fed agenda is sheer madness and will be outed very soon.
The true cost of capital was distorted for so long, we now have hundreds of academics- clueless to the underlying serpent inside global markets. When the 6 foot seven, Paul Volcker walked the halls of the Marriner S. eccles Building of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, our planet embraced about $200T LESS debt than we are staring down the barrel at today. Please call out the risk management imbeciles that make any reference of "Powell to Volcker."
In 2021, global debt reached a record $303T, according to the Institute of International Finance, a global financial industry association. This is a FURTHER jump from record global debt in 2019 of $226T, as reported by the IMF in its Global Debt Database. Volcker was jacking rates into a planet with about $200T LESS debt. Please call out the risk management imbeciles that make any reference of Powell to Volcker.
Many economists in 2022 are highly delusional - a very dangerous group indeed. When you hike rates aggressively with a strong dollar you multiply interest rate risk, which was already off the charts coming from such a low 2020 base in terms of yield - it's a convexity nightmare. Interest rate hikes today - hand in hand with a strong U.S. Dollar - carry 100x the destructive power than the Carter - Reagan era.
At the same time, you add lighter fluid on to the credit risk fire in emerging markets with a raging greenback. Global banks have to mark to market most of these assets. If global rates reset higher and stay at elevated levels, the sovereign debt pile is in gave danger. The response to Lehman and Covid crisis squared (see above) has left a mathematically unsustainable bill for follow on generations. The Fed CANNOT hike rates aggressively into this mess without blowing up the global economy. We are talking about mass - Jonestown delusion on roids.
Then Covid-19 placed a colossal leverage cocktail on top. Emerging and frontier market countries currently owe the IMF over $100B. U.S. central banking policy + a strong USD is vaporizing this capital as we speak.
A dollar screaming higher with agricultural commodities - priced globally in dollars - is a colossal tax on emerging market countries - clueless academics at the Fed are exporting inflation into countries that can least afford it. Emerging - and
frontier market countries owe the IMF over $100B - U.S. central banking policy - strong USD, is vaporizing this capital…
A quarter-trillion dollars of distressed debt is threatening to drag the developing world into a historic cascade of defaults. The number of developing nations trading distressed has doubled, with El Salvador, Ghana, Egypt, Tunisia and Pakistan appearing particularly vulnerable. With the low-income countries, debt risks and debt crises are not hypothetical - try buying oil in USD in an EM currency. A fifth - or about 17% - of the $1.4 trillion emerging-market sovereigns have outstanding in external debt denominated in dollars, euros or yen, according to data compiled by Bloomberg…

Rapist who filmed abuse of toddler jailed
A man from Southport has been jailed for 17 years for raping a toddler and sexually assaulting another child.
Ryan Hawkins, 29, was identified by NCA investigators as username 'bigladuk6' who had been discussing the sexual abuse of children with other paedophiles online.
In September 2021 he shared a graphic sexual image of a baby and told another user about his plans to abuse a young girl the following week.
Hawkins was arrested by NCA officers eight days later and his phone was seized.
Two identical videos of Hawkins raping a female toddler were recovered from the device, along with four graphic sexual images of baby.
When interviewed, he admitted to sexually abusing the toddler on two separate occasions and to sexually assaulting a young boy.
He was charged with the rape and assault of a girl under 13, sexual assault of a male under 13, two counts of making indecent images of a child (IIOC) and one of distributing IIOC.
Hawkins pleaded guilty to all the charges on 16 November 2021 at Liverpool Crown Court.
He was sentenced today [17/12/2021] at the same court to 17 years in prison.
NCA operations manager Phil eccles said: "Ryan Hawkins' crimes are absolutely horrific.
"The fact he openly discussed the abuse with strangers on the internet shows his callous nature and the fact he had no regard for the profound impact this would have on his victims.
"He is an example of the highest risk and most dangerous sexual offenders targeted by the NCA and it is only right he is behind bars where no longer poses a threat to children."

Brooklyn homeowner unable to evict an allegedly deadbeat tenant because of new state housing laws claims she has been forced to live in her car for weeks.
Shawna eccles, 30, says in court papers she sleeps on the couches of friends and relatives whenever she can, and in her four-door Toyota when she can't, after fighting and failing for months to evict Sharita Patterson, 33, from the two-family home in Carnarsie.
"There is no one I can stay with until I am able to evict, and all of my money covers the mortgage, water bill and property taxes," eccles told The Post. "If anything gets cut off, it will be considered an illegal eviction. I have no additional funds to rent an apartment."
Thanks to the state's pandemic-inspired eviction moratorium and recently enacted housing regulations, Patterson has until at least May 1 before any New York housing court would even consider a case against her.

Lady Vestery dead at 71
The Duke of Sussex's godmother Lady Vestey has died suddenly aged 71
She was married to Samuel Vestey, former Cheltenham Racecourse chairman and one of Britain's richest men thanks to the family's £750million business
The couple joined the Queen and Prince Charles in the Royal Box at Cheltenham
Prince Harry has sent his condolences on the death of his godmother Lady Celia Vestey, who was a close friend Prince Charles and a member of the Queen's 'racing circle'.
Lady Vestey, wife of royal courtier and multi-millionaire businessman Samuel Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey, died 'suddenly but peacefully' on Saturday at the age of 71, it was announced today.
Old Etonian Lord Vestey, 79, known as 'Spam' to his friends, is one of Britain's one of Britain's richest men with a £750million fortune thanks to his family's food business, Vestey Holdings. He presides over the 6,000-acre Stowell Park Estate in Gloucestershire.
Lady Vestey, who stayed out of the society spotlight, was chosen to be one of Prince Harry's six godparents alongside Prince Andrew, Lady Sarah Chatto, Bryan Organ, Gerald Ward and Princess Diana's former flatmate, Carolyn Bartholomew.
The role was a sign of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's personal regard for Lady Vestey. She also became part of the royal 'racing circle' and a friend of the Queen through her marriage to Lord Vestey, a former chairman of the Cheltenham Racecourse and Master of the Horse. He was appointed a Lord-in-Waiting to Her Majesty last August.
n a sign of their closeness to the royal family, Lord and Lady Vestey joined the Queen and Prince Charles in the Royal Box at Cheltenham and stayed as guests of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Sandringham.
Born Celia Elizabeth Knight in 1949, she was the youngest daughter of Major Hubert Guy Broughton Knight and Hester Loyd, scion of the Loyds of Lockinge. The family lived in the stunning Lockinge Manor, Wantage, Oxfordshire.
Her older sister is Henrietta Knight, the retired English Thoroughbred racehorse trainer, best known as a trainer of National Hunt racehorses, who was married to Terry Biddlecombe, the champion jockey. Henrietta was also chairwoman of the British Olympic Horse Trials Selection Committee from 1984 to 1988.
In 1981, Celia became Lady Vestey on her marriage to Lord Vestey, who at the time was the Master of the Horse. His duties included attending ceremonial occasions as the man responsible for the Royal Mews and the Queen's carriages and horses.
The company - which once owned Dewhurst butchers - has been privately owned since it was founded in 1897 by brothers William and Edward Vestey.
The Vestey family's combined wealth amounts to approximately £1.2 billion, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2013. Lord Vestey's share is estimated to be around £750million.
In 1984, just three years after her wedding to Lord Vestey, Celia was chosen as one of Prince Harry's six godparents for his christening at St George's Chapel in Windsor.
Lord and Lady Vestey's eldest son William, now 37, was one of the Queen's Page of Honours from the age of 12 to 15.
Lord and Lady Vestey wed in a simple civil ceremony at Wantage Register Office, near her family home. Lord Vestey had been married previously to Kathryn eccles, with whom he shares two daughters.
Lady Vestey is survived by Lord Vestey and their three children, The Hon. William Guy Vestey, The Hon. Arthur George Vestey and The Hon. Mary Henrietta Vestey. The couple also share four grandchildren, Ella, Samuel, Frank and Cosima.
Lord Vestey, who succeeded his grandfather in the peerage title at the age of just 13, was educated at Eton College, before attending Sandhurst and serving as a Lieutenant in the Scots Guards.
Lord Vestey was the chairman of the Meat Training Council from 1991 to 1995, before becoming chairman of the Vestey Group (now Vestey Holdings) in 1995.
Meanwhile Arthur Vestey, 35, is a friend of Prince William. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were surprise no-shows to his 2015 wedding to Martha Beaumont.
The relationship with the Royal Family continued, with Lord and Lady Vestey attending the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011 and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding seven years later.
Lord Vestey was made Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the 2009 Birthday Honours. The Queen promoted Lord Vestey to Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) in December 2018.
Eldest son William, who will one day inherit his father's title and the family's 6,000-acre estate, served as a Page of Honour to the Queen Elizabeth from 1995 to 1998.

GREAT NEWS, FELLOW VICANONS - THIRD HEAD TO ROLL?
Hotel quarantine inquiry seeks explanation from Brett Sutton after emails contradict his evidence on use of private security firms
Victoria's COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Inquiry has asked Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton to provide another statement to the board after a series of emails contradicted his evidence.
In an extraordinary sitting this afternoon, counsel assisting Tony Neal QC told the chair of the probe that it had received a series of emails and was seeking more documents from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) which better indicated when Professor Sutton knew of the decision to use private security at the hotels.
Professor Sutton claimed in evidence at the inquiry that he was not aware of private security's involvement in the program until he read it in "media reports" in May.
But in a chain of emails tendered to the inquiry today, senior public health bureaucrat Braeden Hogan told Professor Sutton of private security's use on March 27.
"Private security has been contracted to provide security at the hotels with escalation agreements to vic pol (Victoria Police) as needed, " he wrote to Professor Sutton and several other senior health and government officials.
Professor Sutton responded: "Thanks so much Braeden."
Mr Neal said the emails were relevant as they pointed "to the time at which Professor Sutton had knowledge of private security in the hotel program," but stated he was not implying that the inquiry had been misled.
"[There is] no basis for inferring or speculating that any view has been formed about the veracity or otherwise," he said.
DHHS told the inquiry it did not offer up the documents earlier because it did not consider them relevant and was working to a tight timeframe.
The chair of the board of inquiry, Jennifer Coate, said the revelations could mean the reporting date of November 6 would need to be pushed back.
"Most unfortunately these new developments may unsettle the due date of the report, but I am unable to be clear about that at this stage," she said.
"If the report date is affected and needs to be extended I will advise the Premier and seek any necessary extension."
Department of Premier and Cabinet also asked to provide more information
Mr Neal said as well as Professor Sutton, many other people had been asked to provide more documents and affidavits on "two discreet developments" that had arisen after the inquiry's hearings closed.
Mr Neal said despite evidence provided in the inquiry that indicated Graham Ashton had not spoken to Department of Premier and Cabinet secretary Chris eccles, the two had in fact spoken at a key point in time.
"Mr eccles's telephone records show, indeed, he telephoned Mr Ashton at 1:17pm on March 27 in a call that lasted 135 seconds," Mr Neal said.
"Having obtained this further information, the inquiry team requested certain parties to provide further answers on affidavit to questions directed to the issue of the decision to engage private security contractors in the hotel quarantine program and to provide further documents related to that issue."
Mr eccles resigned after the inquiry sought his phone records last week.

Victoria's top public servant Chris eccles resigns after phone records revealed
Victoria's most senior public servant Chris eccles has resigned from his position of Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet effective immediately.
Mr eccles' resignation comes after detailed phone records requested by the Board of the Hotel Quarantine Inquiry showed the former secretary called former police chief Graham Ashton at 1.17pm on March 27.
Mr eccles had earlier given evidence to the inquiry that he did not recall if he had telephoned the former Chief Commissioner.
However, Mr eccles insists he did not "convey to Mr Ashton any decision regarding the use of private security" during the phone call.
"The telephone records do not in any way demonstrate that I, or indeed anyone else in DPC made a decision that private security be used in the Hotel Quarantine Program," he said in a statement today.
"I am absolutely certain I did not convey to Mr Ashton any decision regarding the use of private security as I was unaware any such decision had been made, and I most certainly had not made such a decision myself."
The former secretary had earlier given evidence to the Hotel Quarantine Inquiry that he did not recall if he had telephoned the former Chief Commissioner.
"There has been much commentary and speculation about whether I or anyone else at DPC spoke to Mr Ashton during that narrow timeframe on 27 March. It is now evident I did," he said.
"I gave evidence that while I did not recall whether I telephoned former Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton in response to a text message he sent me at 1:16pm on 27 March 2020, I may have.
"Further, I gave evidence that although I did not recall telephoning Mr Ashton at that particular time, it was my normal practice to get back to the then Chief Commissioner when he contacted me.
"Under cross examination I provided an answer to a related question that was inconsistent with the totality of my evidence and the meaning I was intending to convey. This was not my intention, as I believe was made very clear by my written statement and further oral evidence."

Former Premier's extraordinary rant
Daniel Andrews has copped an absolute roasting from a former Premier, who says he can't believe what he's seeing in Victoria.
Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett has launched into a ferocious attack on Daniel Andrews after the state's hotel quarantine inquiry reached farcical levels.
The inquiry revealed Daniel Andrews right-hand man Chris eccles simply "can't recall" who ordered security guards to man the hotels of returned travellers.
On the Today show this morning, Mr Kennett described the revelations as "extraordinary".
"We are in this strange position here in Victoria where no- one knows anything," he said. "We just seem to operate on osmosis.
"No politician will accept responsibility. It is the most extraordinary situation and bear in mind, the failure at those quarantine hotels led to the second wave here which to date has taken over 750 lives.
Premier Daniel Andrews is giving evidence tomorrow, but Mr Kennett predicted he won't "know anything" either.
"No-one knows. This has just happened. I'm surprised anyone knows we have got coronavirus down here," he said. "No politician has accepted any responsibility for any act that has occurred."
Despite the criticism, the latest polling shows support for Mr Andrews has surged.
Mr Kennett however said he wasn't surprised.
"When you have people in situations of stress they always look to their leaders to actually be able to guide them to a safe place," he said.
"We are being guided because the government has failed and I've always said that the aftermath of the coronavirus is going to be a lot more serious than, in fact, the coronavirus itself."

Explosive email adds to mountain of evidence saying under-siege premier KNEW about Army quarantine offer, discussed AND rejected it. So at his press conference on Wednesday, it's Daniel Andrews' time to come clean
Federal government offered troops to man hotel quarantine from March 27
NSW accepted 360 troops and Queensland took 100 but Victoria refused
Victorian premier Daniel Andrews previously denied turning down military help
But emails from the prime minister's office show it was offered several times
Daniel Andrews has stood by his claim that hundreds of ADF staff were not offered to help run Victoria's hotel quarantine system.
Emails shown to an inquiry on Tuesday revealed the prime minister's office repeatedly offered military support for the bungled program as early as April.
The evidence appeared to contradict Mr Andrews' claim in August that: 'It is fundamentally incorrect to assert that there were hundreds of ADF staff on offer and somehow, someone said no.'
But on Wednesday, Mr Andrews stood by that statement and said he would explain why when he appears at the inquiry next week.
'I stand by those statements and I'll be providing evidence,' he said.
The premier refused to go into detail, telling a journalist: 'All can I can say is the statements I've made are accurate… it's not appropriate for me to run debates back and forth.
'You're fine to ask the question but there's a live process going on. I'm not distant from it. I'll be part of that process next week.'
When the coronavirus quarantine policy was announced on 27 March, New South Wales accepted 360 troops and Queensland took 100 but Victoria refused any help, an inquiry heard on Tuesday.
On April 8, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Philip Gaetjens emailed his Victorian counterpart Chris eccles to again offer ADF assistance.
Referencing how the ADF helped with security in NSW, Mr Gaetjens wrote: 'I am sure the Commonwealth would be willing to assist Victoria in a similar way if you wanted to reconsider your operating model'.
Mr eccles replied: 'Thanks Phil' - but no request for help was made.
Instead, Victoria used private security guards who flouted social distancing rules, caught the virus in late May and helped spark the state's second wave which has killed more than 700 people.
It wasn't until June 24 that Victoria's emergency management commissioner Andrew Crisp made a request for 850 defence personnel to replace private security.
An email from the prime minister's office to the premier's office on that day shows the pair discussed the support.
But the request was rescinded a day later after the Department of Justice and Community Safety took over the program.

On July 16, Jack and Gerry eccles in Durham, North Carolina, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with their family.
The event had a lot of the trappings you would expect of an anniversary party: There was a cake, of course, along with a photo of the couple from their wedding, and some of their nine kids, 20 grandkids and 24 great-grandkids were "in attendance."
But there were some differences, too, that anyone trying to celebrate any major milestone in the past few months has encountered, especially since the eccleses were in lockdown inside Hillcrest Convalescent Center.
The couple's daughter and her husband held up an iPad outside the window, helping orchestrate the Zoom conference while the couple sat in the lobby and ate their cake.
On March 12, when he showed up at Hillcrest Convalescent Center to make his usual visit, he was turned away. On March 13, he returned with some belongings and rented a room.
"We're married," he explained. "I want to be with her. She took care of me for 70 years, and now it's my turn."
As one of their children, Genece McChesney, said, "they were never apart" - and that wasn't going to start now.
While the center was willing to rent Jack a room, it wasn't without restrictions. Jack has to limit himself to his wife's room or - occasionally - the lobby when he's not in his own quarters.
He admits he hasn't seen the sun much these last few months and spends a lot of time alone, but it's worth it to be able to be close to his wife.
It wasn't just about getting to see his wife, either. Jack was concerned that without him around, Gerry might stop eating and her health would decline - all while he was "outside" and unable to do anything.
He now feeds his wife her meals, and the staff has noticed a change in her demeanor. Olivia Jacobs, one of the center's dieticians, said that his presence is a unique benefit that they can't replicate.

Russia-China "Dedollarization" Reaches "Breakthrough Moment" As Countries Ditch Greenback For Bilateral Trade
Late last year, data released by the PBOC and the Russian Central Bank shone a light on a disturbing - at least, for the US - trend: As the Trump Administration ratcheted up sanctions pressure on Russia and China, both countries and their central banks have substantially "diversified" their foreign-currency reserves, dumping dollars and buying up gold and each other's currencies.
Back in September, we wrote about the PBOC and RCB building their reserves of gold bullion to levels not seen in years. The Russian Central Bank became one of the world's largest buyers of bullion last year (at least among the world's central banks). At the time, we also introduced this chart-cap#2) We've been writing about the impending demise of the greenback for years now, and of course we're not alone. Some well-regarded economists have theorized that the fall of the greenback could be a good thing for humanity - it could open the door to a multi-currency basket, or better yet, a global current (bitcoin perhaps?) - by allowing us to transition to a global monetary system with with less endemic instability.
Though, to be sure, the greenback is hardly the first "global currency". Falling confidence in the greenback has been masked by the Fed's aggressive buying, as central bankers in the eccles Building now fear that the asset bubbles they've blown are big enough to harm the real economy, so we must wait for exactly the right time to let the air out of these bubbles so they don't ruin people's lives and upset the global economic apple cart. As the coronavirus outbreak has taught us, that time may never come.
But all the while, Russia and China have been quietly weening off of the dollar, and instead using rubles and yuan to settle transnational trade.
Since we live in a world where commerce is directed by the whims of the free market (at least, in theory), the Kremlin can just make Russian and Chinese companies substitute yuan and rubles for dollars with the flip of a switch:as Russian President Vladimir Putin once exclaimed, the US's aggressive sanctions policy risks destroying the dollar's reserve status by forcing more companies from Russia and China to search for alternatives to transacting in dollars, if for no other reason than to keep costs down (international economic sanctions can make moving money abroad difficult).
In 2019, Putin gleefully revealed that Russia had reduced the dollar holdings of its central bank by $101 billion, cutting the total in half.
Cap#3 is why Russia is positioned better than most
And according to new data from the Russian Central Bank and Federal Customs Service, the dollar's share of bilateral trade between Russia and China fell below 50% for the first time in modern history
Businesses only used the greenback for roughly 46% of settlements between the two countries. Over the same period, the euro constituted an all-time high of 30%. While other national currencies accounted for 24%, also a new high. At times, Russia has prioritized use of the yuan over its own currency in the hopes that his would push Beijing to become more "assertive" in establishing the yuan as an internationalized currency. While the yuan was added to a IMF basket of reserve currencies a few years back, Beijing's unwillingness to take its hand off the wheel when it comes to managing the currency has stymied its internationalization. Russia's push to accumulate yuan is not just about diversifying its foreign exchange reserves, Maslov explained. Moscow also wants to encourage Beijing to become more assertive in challenging Washington's global economic leadership.
"Russia has a considerably more decisive position toward the United States [than China does]," Maslov said. "Russia is used to fighting, it does not hold negotiations. One way for Russia to make China's position more decisive, more willing to fight is to show that it supports Beijing in the financial sphere."
Six years have passed between Russia and China opened FX swap lines between their central banks in 2014. That three year deal was expanded in 2017. While trying to assess the long-term risk, remember: Ray Dalio has apparently assigned a whole team of publicists to help spread his concerns about the potential fallout from a US-China "capital war". It's worth remembering that China has far more financial firepower with which to vex the US than many pundits are willing to acknowledge.

FOMC Formalizes $80Bn/Month QE, No Negative-Rates Signaled, Slashes GDP Forecast
Since The Fed's last statement, on April 29th, one "asset class" has done particularly well as bonds, bullion, and the greenback have slipped lower. Spot the odd one out…
As we detailed earlier, the Fed is likely to focus on forward guidance on rates and asset purchases: it is a given that rates are on hold until normal economic service has been resumed, and then some, and also that the FOMC will continue to expand its special lending facilities even further despite the fact that the worst of the economic downturn is already behind us. However, the markets are only really going to be focused on four things:
Will the Fed open the door even a crack to negative rates? The Fed does not seem to be in a hurry to tweak the IOER rate, even though that would help reduce the occurrence of negative implied Fed Funds rates and thus quell some of the speculation about negative US rates in our view. However, despite market chatter we believe that European- and Japanese-style negative rates are a no-go for the Fed.
Will we see Yield Curve Control (YCC)? If so, which parts of the US Treasury curve will, Japanese- and Aussie-style, cease to function as a real market? Would it just be the short end of the curve? That leaves the door open for curve steepening of the kind seen in recent sessions, which carries the risk of real pain for borrowers. Moreover, with the massive expansion of US Federal debt, YCC out to 2 years would mean issuance at the short end and constantly having to roll it over. In other words, raising the Fed Funds rate again would not be possible until public debt was under more control - which realistically means never. Or might YCC be longer, say out to 7 years? This would give greater room to spread the looming trillions that will flow, and perhaps enough time for some optimists to presume an economic turn-around within that period is possible. Yet could we even see that financial totem of all totems, the US 10-year, under YCC? If so the global debt benchmark is not looked at, but sat on like a bench. Japan is already doing it.
Can the Fed manage to do either of the above without the US Dollar falling out of bed? The structural bull argument for USD is still there, but current momentum is such that hinting at negative rates and/or pegging US yields could easily push it down. The Fed aren't responsible for the USD, but they certainly know that is true. The question is whether they are either desperate enough about the outlook not to care, or are happy about a currency weakness they can pretend is nothing to do with them. Hello FX Wars! Join the queue behind the trade war (as China cancels some shipments of US goods already en route) and the Cold War (as the US senate de facto opens the door to banning all Chinese telcos from the US market). That said, there is also an emerging argument one we have put forward since 2017 that in a Cold War it is a strong USD and not a weak one that is the greater US weapon. There is still unlikely to be a line of communication between China hawks in DC and the eccles Building where the FOMC sit, but it's still worth remembering what the geopolitical backdrop is.
Can the Fed find a way to do even more than it already is without encouraging what many see even by the standards of the mind-blowingly stupid examples around the word in recent decades as an epic, lunatic, *dangerous* stock-market bubble? Indeed, can they do so without stocks tumbling down on top of the retail money arriving late to the party? "Excessive exuberance": anyone recall how many years and bubbly Fed Chairs ago that was?
All eyes will be on the dotplots today to see if any Fed heads are forecasting negative rates (and if so prepare for chaos to break out).
And how Powell will explain The Fed's tapered bond-buying as repo-liquidity needs are resurging…

Mnuchin Says Energy Firms Can Be Bailed Out By The Fed
As part of the Coronavirus CARES Act, the $2 trillion fiscal stimulus meant to resuscitate the US economy, Congress allocated $454 billion to help underwrite the special lending programs from the Federal Reserve. This could generate up to $4.540 trillion in new lending (assuming 10x leverage for highly-rated assets) likely geared toward small and medium-sized businesses. It now turns out that the first industry to benefit from direct Fed loans is the imploding US energy sector, which for the past decade benefited indirectly from Fed generosity by issuing junk bonds to yield starved investors who are now facing near certain bankruptcy in the face, as the price of oil - if it stays at this level - assures they will never be repaid.
Speaking at a White House news conference on Thursday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said energy companies squeezed by the oil-price war can turn to the Federal Reserve's lending facilities for aid but won't get direct loans from his department.
"I have very limited ability to do direct loans out of the Treasury," he said, suggesting that distressed shale companies should instead beg the Fed.
As Bloomberg notes, the $2.2 trillion coronavirus-related economic package authorizes the secretary to provide loans and grants to passenger airlines, cargo airlines, contractors and companies important to national security, Mnuchin said. Other companies must turn to the Fed, which is authorized to inject $4 trillion into the U.S. economy through various lending facilities approved by Congress. "Our expectation is the energy companies, like all our other companies, will be able to participate in broad-based facilities, whether it's the corporate facility or whether it's the main street facility, but not direct lending out of the Treasury," he said, leaving the Fed as the only option.
And now we look forward to the populist backlash when a line of insolvent shale CEOs forms outside the Marriner eccles all begging to have their junk bonds taken out at par, and refinance with a Fed loan yielding, well, nothing and ideally forgiveable if the new round of cheap debt manages to bankrupt Saudi Arabia as the price of oil goes negative.

Speaking via video conference with bankers in Kansas City, Yellen said that the Fed would take a page out of the SNB and BOJ playbook, and "might be able to help the U.S. economy in a future downturn if it could buy stocks and corporate bonds." Of course, by "US economy" she meant the "top 1%" and their political cronies.
And while Yellen was quick to walk back this "hypothetical" scenario, saying that "the issue was not a pressing one right now" and pointed out the U.S. central bank is currently barred by law from buying corporate assets, the idea was already "incepted" in the heads of America's political rulers (whose fate is just as tied to the vagaries of the stock market) and the law can be changed literally overnight. And after all, it is only a matter of time before a crisis does hit, and now Yellen has explained has to happen to avoid an all out social catastrophe in a country where financial assets account for nearly 6x of GDP.
However, thanks to Yellen we now know that the Fed won't go down without a fight… or at least without monetizing everything before the Marriner eccles building is finally burned down.
Last month, Yellen told a conference the Fed would fight a future recession by buying government debt and jaw boning interest rates lower with pledges on future policy. But she said other tools might be necessary, including expanding the range of assets it would purchase.
And so, thanks to Janet Yellen, we now we know that before the current fiat regime of central banks finally ends and before stocks go limits up as the revolution starts, the Fed will order a POMO of, well, everything in one final, last ditch effort to keep social stability by creating the impression that stocks are stable and rising even as society implodes.
Will it be successful? Normally we would say "not a chance." But when one considers that that's precisely what has happened for the past decade, and one has to think really hard just how much further the Fed can keep kicking the can before it all comes crashing down.

Labour Leadership Candidate Long-Bailey Says Idea That Britons Rejected Socialism is 'Bollocks'
The far-left candidate to replace Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party, Rebecca Long-Bailey, said it was "bollocks" that the British people rejected socialism in last month's general election.
In a leaked audio recording of remarks given at an event on Saturday, Ms Long-Bailey refused to blame Corbynism for the Labour Party's historic electoral defeat, even though she admitted that the results of the election left her "crushed".
"We had a few wobbly people on the doorstep because of Brexit, but I thought everything was going to be alright," she said per HuffPost UK.
"I was in a state of shock and it was as if everything I believed [was] being ripped up before my very eyes, that everything we fought and we're so proud of was suddenly invalidated, [that] no-one wanted us, no-one wanted socialism," added the MP for Salford and eccles.
"And then I pushed that thought out of my head because I thought 'that's bollocks'," she surmised.
Long-Bailey was tacitly endorsed by Jeremy Corbyn at the same event, who said: "It's an absolute pleasure to be here alongside Becky Long-Bailey, our candidate for leader."
"I've known Becky since we came into parliament and we've worked very well together. She has done the most to develop our trade union policies," Corbyn added.
Ms Long-Bailey, who is being groomed by the hard-left activist group Momentum to continue the failed socialist policies of Jeremy Corbyn, has described the performance of the outgoing Labour leader as "ten out of ten".
Earlier this month the Labour Party leader hopeful wrote: "We need a proud socialist to lead the Labour Party, driven by their principles and an unwavering determination to see democratic socialism in our lifetime."
She currently trails Sir Keir Starmer in the race to replace Corbyn; however, she remains ahead of Emily Thornberry and Lisa Nandy in the latest polling by YouGov.
The new leader of the Labour Party will be announced on April 4th.

Judy Shelton: Who Is Trump's Newest Fed Pick?
Would President Donald Trump's recent Federal Reserve nominees lead the Mises wing of the Libertarian Party? No. Have his picks been interesting to say the least? Yes. Though far from being reincarnations of Murray Rothbard or disciples of Walter Block, the last couple of nominations have been an improvement from the typical Keynesian, status quo selections who advocate more of the same.
Up until the media tried to destroy his professional life, Stephen Moore supported a return to the gold standard. Before withdrawing from consideration to work at the Fed, Herman Cain was vocal about adopting a sound money policy - and he is black, something the left has been whining about for the last couple of years. Trump's latest nominee is a mixed bag, but she has been a staunch critic of the eccles Building, and that is essential at a time when the central bank has had carte blanche to manipulate interest rates, expand the money supply, and produce bubbles.
Who is this person, and will she survive the media firestorm heading her way?
Judy Shelton
Gimme Judy Shelton
According to Bloomberg, the White House is considering conservative economist Judy Shelton to fill one of the two vacancies on the Fed's Board of Governors. She reportedly met with Larry Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, but Shelton has not met with the president.
Shelton presently acts as the U.S. executive director for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Previously, she was an adviser to the Trump campaign and worked at the Sound Money Project, a group founded in 2009 to perform research and promote awareness regarding monetary stability and financial privacy. Shelton also penned two books, including The Coming Soviet Crash, which examined the Russian economy and its collapse.
In April, Shelton wrote an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, titled "The Case for Monetary Regime Change." Her supposition was that it is "entirely prudent to question the infallibility of the Federal Reserve in calibrating the money supply to the needs of the economy." Why? She accurately blamed the Fed's "influence over the creation of money and credit" for the 2008 financial crisis.
Last year, she wrote in a Cato Institute paper: "We make America great again by making America's money great again." One way to achieve this, she suggested, is to link the U.S. dollar to gold or another commodity rather than blanket trust in the federal government.
Speaking in an interview with Fortune during the 2016 election campaign, Shelton was blunt in calling for "a fundamental reassessment of the global monetary order." She outlined her concerns over central banks around the world acquiring corporate assets and the Federal Reserve prolonging the normalization of interest rates. The economist ultimately believes that the central bank is the "biggest risk" to the economy. "I think it's perfectly legitimate to question whether the current monetary system we have is working, and whether we've solved the imbalances that led to the last crisis," she said. That is some serious libertarian, anti-globalist speak that the Fed needs right now. Of course, there is always a but...

The tremors unleashed by Google's earnings debacle and China's disappointing PMIs just over 24 hours ago are now long forgotten as trader focus shifts to Apple's strong guidance (if not 17% drop in iPhone sales and 22% plunge in China revenues), helping push the global rally into a fifth month and US equity futures to a fresh record high, even as potential disappointment looms should the FOMC come out more hawkish than expected. At least there will be fewer traders to be disappointed: most of Asia and Europe was shut for the May day holiday. Meanwhile, not all is well as treasury yields slumped below 2.50% again, while the dollar dipped ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision.
The MSCI world equity index was up 0.1% in early trading after rising to its highest since early October, although May Day holidays across Asia and Europe meant trading was thinner than usual with China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan all shut, and only the UK and Denmark open in Europe.
Apple's strong guidance which came against a disappointing background of the second consecutive revenue decline.
(and an announcement of a $75b share buyback plan)
All eyes turn to the Marriner eccles building at 2pm today, and Powell's subsequent press conference following the U.S. rate decision. "The risk for this Fed meeting is that, unless the FOMC meets the market's dovish expectation for their stance, we would expect another leg higher in USD," Mizuho strategists said in a note. As we previewed last night, the Fed expected to leave US rates unchanged amid a "goldilocks" economy, although there is a modest chance of an IOER cut. That said, the market remains convinced a rate cut is coming by December 2019. (moar like September according to COMEX fed rate futures)-see cap#3 for the start of the bet's on rate rises.
https://www.cmegroup.com/trading/interest-rates/countdown-to-fomc.html/
A call from U.S. President Donald Trump for a cut in interest rates will likely be unheeded when the results of the Fed's two-day meeting are released, but the unorthodox comments made on Twitter will increase focus on Powell at his press conference shortly after.
Bullish investors are looking for fresh reasons to push the S&P 500 Index higher after it closed Tuesday at another record.

Unlikely activists: Money managers push for climate, social good
NEW YORK (Reuters) - If you are looking to save the environment, address racial or gender discrimination, fight for human rights or tackle corruption, it looks like you have some unlikely allies: Money managers.
Do not scoff. The biennial Report on US Sustainable, Responsible and Impact Investing Trends is out, and the numbers are eye-popping.
There is now $12 trillion in money being managed in the United States with an eye to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria, according to the report by the US SIF, a nonprofit hub for sustainable investing. That is up 38 percent in just two years, from $8.7 trillion in 2016.
To put that in perspective, more than one in four dollars - or 26 percent of the $46.6 trillion in total U.S assets under professional management - consider ESG factors in investment selection.
That is hardly a "niche" investment approach - and seems it is not going away anytime soon.
"I'm struck by the fact that we are seeing growth across all types of investment vehicles, asset classes and styles of investing," says Meg Voorhes, US SIF's research director.
"ESG is becoming accepted practice - part of investors and money managers simply doing their jobs."
So what specific factors are driving ESG-oriented investment strategies? The reason most often cited by money managers was climate change, with $3 trillion in assets being steered with that issue in mind; followed by tobacco ($2.89 trillion), conflict risk such as repressive regimes ($2.26 trillion), human rights ($2.2 trillion), and transparency ($2.2 trillion).
Institutional investors noted a similar list of concerns -repressive regimes, tobacco and climate change were their top three - while also paying keen attention to governance, such as board issues ($1.73 trillion) and executive pay ($1.69 trillion).
"What I find fascinating is that 20 years ago, the corporate community was way ahead of the investment community on ESG," said Robert eccles, visiting professor of management practice at Oxford University's Said Business School, and one of the world's foremost authorities on the subject.
"That has flipped over the last five years. Investors are noticing that companies which do better on ESG issues, have better financial performance. The evidence just continues to accumulate. This stuff matters."
Indeed, the report found that what is driving ESG investment is not some fuzzy, kumbaya interest in social justice. It is, not surprisingly, self-interest: Money managers are responding to client demand, as well as seeking to improve returns, minimize risk and fulfill their fiduciary duty.
Of course it is one thing to be concerned by environmental or social issues, and another to actually do something about it. In the investing world, that often takes the form of peppering a company's management with shareholder resolutions.
The US SIF report found that from 2016 through the first half of 2018, 165 institutional investors and 54 investment managers controlling a total of $1.8 trillion in assets filed shareholder resolutions on ESG issues. The subjects of those resolutions ranged from proxy access (the ability to nominate directors), to climate change, to corporate political spending.
"Many of these money managers and institutions, concerned about racial and gender discrimination, gun violence, and the federal government's rollbacks of environmental protections, are using portfolio selection and shareowner engagement to address these important issues," the report's authors write.

the tannaitic period. The mazzikim ("harmful spirits") are said to have been created on the eve of the Sabbath of creation (Avot 5:6) but this late reference is the only one made to demons in the entire Mishnah. Among the accomplishments of both Hillel (Sof. 16:9) and his disciple R. Johanan b. Zakkai was their knowledge of "the speech of the shedim" ("devils," Suk. 28a). The latter also gave the analogy of a ru'ah tezazit ("the demon of madness") entering a man and being exorcised, in order to explain to a heathen the anomaly of the laws of the red heifer , although he agreed with his wondering disciples that it was but "putting him off with a straw" and that he himself did not accept it (PR 40a; Num. R. 19:4). Although these statements refer to Erez Israel, the Jerusalem Talmud is markedly free from demonology, and in fact mentions only three general names for them - mazzikim, shedim, and ruhot. A passage in the Babylonian Talmud specifically states that various beliefs connected with demons which were current in Babylon were ignored in Erez Israel. Whereas in Erez Israel they translated shiddah and shiddot (eccles. 2:8) as "carriages," in Babylon they rendered them "male and female demons" (Git. 68a).

QRB General #147: THE BIG LIE! Edition
Gold (and Silver) Is Laughing At Powell
Recently, my colleague, Egon von Greyerz, and I had some unabashed yet blunt fun calling out the staggering levels of open hypocrisy and policy desperation unleashed by former Fed Chairman, Alan Greenspan.
Poor Alan was an easy target of what I described as the "patient zero" of the reckless interest rate suppression and unbridled monetary expansion policies of the Fed which have always led to equally reckless boom and bust cycles in markets and economies. But let us be fair to comical Fed Chairmen like Greenspan, as he is not alone in making a mockery of his post at the eccles Building. With the exception of Paul Volker and William Martin, the sad truth is that nearly every person who has sat in that lead Chair of a private bank masquerading as a "Federal" reserve has made the bank, and themselves, a public embarrassment.
For the most part, over-hyped Fed Chairs know how to run up debt levels and create lots of money to appear "accommodative" to markets in the short term and then blame "animal spirits" on the disasters which always follow longer term. In fact, if I had to come up with the most honest and historically-confirmed job description for a Fed Chairman, I would post the following job-post on LinkedIn: "Seeking D.C.-based expert fluent in double-speak, comfortable with unsustainable debt expansion and handy with a money printer. Ivy League credentials a plus." As for double-speak, Mr. Powell is now seeking to outshine ol' Mr. Greenspan's art of spin with stunning elan.
At a recent economics club in Washington, Powell was both shameless and brilliant in his ability to spew fantasy with the skill of a circus promotor yet maintain the straight face of a circuit judge. Specifically, Powell tried to downplay the U.S. debt elephant in the room by admitting to its horrific size yet promising a miracle policy shift sometime down the road...
That is, he was unable to deny what he described as the "unsustainable path" of current U.S. debt levels growing "meaningfully faster than economic growth," but was quick to comfort anyone gullible enough to believe him that for now "there is no question of our ability to service our debt for the foreseeable future." Ahhhh. Such calming words, such confidence, such market-placating guidance. But now, let's translate Powell's Fed-speak into real-speak and get a deeper look into the mind of a first-rate spin-seller. When Powell says "there is no question of our ability to service our debt for the foreseeable future," he is actually telling a kind of partial truth. Congratulations Jerome. Yes, so long as the Fed decides to print trillions more fiat dollars and artificially cap yields and interest rates, the Fed can indeed "service" it's nearly $30T in public debt for the "foreseeable future," as the cost of that debt is forced to the basement of history.
But what Powell forgets to say, quite cleverly, is that the "foreseeable future" of which he is telegraphing is nothing more than a future of equally foreseeable and grotesquely expanded, and hence, debased U.S. dollars, which is needed to monetize that truly unsustainable debt. Needless to say, such money printing is great news for gold...But Powell's ability to spin fantasy gets even more pronounced with his next great lie masquerading as policy comfort.
Stated more simply, that "distant future" of "economic growth" in which the Fed "deals" with our debt problem is an open lie, no different than Bernanke's 2009 promise that QE1 was "temporary" and would end by 2010. If Powell would like, I am happy to send him (or Monsieurs Greenspan and Bernanke) a few high-school text books on basic math, or maybe one or two essays on market history to help him (them) regain both a conscience and facts.
My former Harvard President and one-time Treasury Secretary, Larry Summers, for example, is no less of a master at promoting his image while ignoring his mistakes. Mr. Summers, the god-father of deregulating the otherwise toxic, uber-levered and price-fixing OTC derivatives market, deserves an honorable mention. Under his watch in 1998, that derivatives market went from $95T to $670T despite open warnings from Brooksley Borne at the CFTC. Meanwhile, Summers was openly insulting her while slapping backs with bankers and promising the world not to worry about their master plan to expand this once-safe futures exchange. But less than a decade after telling Congress that he and his banker friends were more than capable of managing OTC derivatives risk, that same market, as well as the S&P (and the Harvard endowment) tanked by greater than 50% in a matter of weeks in 2008.

His greatest triumph, in fact, was not to have held the highest ecclesiastical offices of any Australian, but to have kept his faith in circumstances that must have screamed: "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Not to succumb to anger, self-pity or despair - when almost any other human would - and instead to have accepted this modern-day crucifixion, walking humbly in the footsteps of Our Lord; that's the heroic virtue that makes him, to my mind, a saint for our times.
And as I heard the chant, "Cardinal Pell should go to hell", I thought, at least they now believe in the afterlife. Perhaps this is St George Pell's first miracle.
Indeed the ultimately triumphant life of this soldier for truth, to advance through smear and doubt to victory, should drive a renewal of confidence throughout the universal church.
If character means to "trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too"; if it means bearing "to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools", George Pell was the greatest man I've ever known. And if faith means the ability to endure crushing adversity, no one could be a better advertisement for it - especially with those of us for whom it often remains tantalisingly out of reach.
So I will hold on to him in my heart, from love of a friend and mentor; and as a gentle chide for virtues sought, but not yet attained. And in these times, when it's more needful than ever to fight the good fight, to stay the course and to keep the faith, it is surely now for the Australian church to trumpet the cause of its greatest champion.
There should be Pell study courses, Pell spirituality courses, Pell lectures, Pell high schools and Pell university colleges; just as there are for the other saints. If we can direct our prayers to Mother Teresa, Thomas a Becket and St Augustine, why not the late cardinal too, who's been just as pleasing to God, I'm sure, and has the added virtue of being the very best of us.
Tony Abbott delivered this eulogy at the Thursday funeral of the late George Pell.

Pell 'our greatest Catholic ... a saint for these times'
In his eulogy for George Pell, former prime minister Tony Abbott celebrates a wonderful life, a once-in-a-generation gathering and a rededication to the ideals the late Cardinal lived for.
TONY ABBOTT - February 2, 2023
1/2
This funeral is a sad farewell to a great friend, and more, a joyous tribute to a great hero.
It's the celebration of a wonderful life; a once-in-a-generation gathering of the people of faith; to rededicate ourselves to the ideals George Pell lived for, and to draw strength, from each other, for the struggles ahead. He was a priest, a bishop and the prefect of a Vatican secretariat, but he was never a mere functionary; in each of these roles, a thinker, a leader, a Christian warrior and a proud Australian who wanted our country and our civilisation to succeed.
In the pulpit, from the lectern, on TV, in the opinion pages, across the dinner table, after mass or in confession - as everyone here would know - he was always thoughtful, often charismatic, occasionally imperious, constantly concerned for the wellbeing of others, and a pastoral priest who could find an echo of Christ in even the worst sinner.
In short, he's the greatest Catholic Australia has produced; and one of the country's greatest sons. No one else has been both archbishop of Melbourne and archbishop of Sydney. No other Australian has been as senior in the leadership of the Roman church, or as influential in its conclaves.
He was instrumental in the foundation of three centres of higher learning: the Australian Catholic University, the University of Notre Dame, here in Australia, and Campion College, perhaps his favourite, named for the Jesuit martyr; our first liberal arts school, dedicated to giving its students a good grounding in the great books, and the great debates that have shaped our civilisation, and made it man's finest social and cultural achievement so far.
And far from being an apologist, or a dissembler about the sins of the church - personal, financial, or intellectual - he was their hammer. As he knew, "ecclesia semper reformanda" - the church is always in need of reform. Here in Australia, he was the first archbishop to sack misbehaving clergy, and report them to the police, rather than hide them in another parish. In Rome, he tried to ensure that the collections from the faithful were used for the glory of God, rather than the indulgence of the higher clergy. Most recently, he called a draft Vatican document further eroding the apostolic tradition a "toxic nightmare". Never one to mince his words.
To the smug, to the venal, to the lazy, to the wayward, and to the intellectually sloppy, he was an existential reproach - and because that's all of us, in some way, it's hardly surprising that he became a target.
For all his presence and his natural authority, he was personally humble and never fell for the modern conceit, that he was bigger than that which had shaped him: faith, church and country.
In his celebrated eulogy for another Catholic hero, BA Santamaria, he declared it was "the mark of the false prophet that all men speak well of him"; before observing that "Bob" had "triumphantly avoided this fate".
And so it was, even more, with the cardinal himself. His recent observation, that the climate change movement had "some of the characteristics of a low-level, not-too-demanding pseudo-religion", was the kind of comment that enraged its adherents, precisely because it was true.
Throughout history, that's what people have been martyred for, for telling the unpopular, unpalatable truth; and it's not possible to honour the cardinal, without some reference to his persecution.
He was made a scapegoat for the church itself. He should never have been investigated, in the absence of a complaint. He should never have been charged, in the absence of corroborating evidence. And he should never have been convicted, in the absence of a plausible case, as the High Court so resoundingly made plain. Had he died in jail, without the High Court's vindication, this - today - would have been a very different event, even though his innocence would have been no less, had it been known only to God.

Cardinal George Pell 'a saint for our times', says Tony Abbott
TESS LIVINGSTONE, ROSIE LEWIS and CARLY DOUGLAS - JANUARY 11, 2023
1/3
Tony Abbott has described the late George Pell as a "saint for our times" and says he's confident his "reputation will grow and grow", after the Cardinal died in Rome from complications during hip surgery.
The former prime minister, a staunch Catholic who visited Cardinal Pell when he was in gaol in Melbourne, said his prison journals "should become a classic: a fine man wrestling with a cruel fate and trying to make sense of the unfairness of suffering".
Mr Abbott said Australia had lost a great son and the Catholic church had lost a great leader with his passing at age 81.
"The Cardinal was a committed defender of Catholic orthodoxy and a staunch advocate for the virtues of Western civilisation," Mr Abbott said.
"As an ecclesiastical and cultural conservative, he attracted praise and blame from all the expected quarters. In fact, he was a very pastoral priest who well understood the human stain and was more than capable of empathising with sinners while still counselling against sin.
"His incarceration on charges that the High Court ultimately scathingly dismissed was a modern form of crucifixion: reputationally at least a kind of living death."
The former Liberal leader reached out to Cardinal Pell after he was convicted of child sex abuse - a conviction that was ultimately overturned - and considered him a friend.
"In the end, like Julian of Norwich, (Cardinal Pell's) conclusion in faith was that all would be well and all manner of things would be well," Mr Abbott said.
"In his own way, by dealing so equably with a monstrous allegation, he strikes me as a saint for our times. Like everyone who knew him I feel a deep sense of loss but am confident that his reputation will grow and grow and that he will become an inspiration for the ages."
PM: Shock to many
Anthony Albanese said Cardinal George Pell's death "will come as a shock to many" as he offered his condolences to those in mourning, particularly people of the Catholic faith.
The Prime Minister said he conveyed his government's condolences to Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher earlier on Wednesday.
"This will come as a shock to many. This was a hip operation and the consequences of it, unfortunately, have been that Cardinal Pell has lost his life," Mr Albanese said.
"For many people, particularly of the Catholic faith, this will be a difficult day and I express my condolences to all those who are mourning today.
"Archbishop Fisher informed me that there will be a service held in the Vatican in coming days but then there will be a service at St Mary 's Cathedral (in Sydney) at some time in the future."
Mr Albanese said the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade were providing assistance to ensure Cardinal Pell's body was brought back to Australia, with further announcements to be made in due course.
Cardinal Pell will be buried in St. Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, where he served as Archbishop for 13 years, once his body is returned to Australia following his Vatican funeral.
In a statement, the St Mary's notified the community that a service would be held for the Eighth Archbishop of Sydney today at 1.10pm as leaders reflected on the Cardinal's
The Mass will be livestreamed on the church's YouTube Channel.
Howard: 'Person of enormous influence'
John Howard says Australia and the Catholic Church have lost a "person of enormous influence" following the death of the late Cardinal George Pell.
The former prime minister, who said he "liked and respected" Cardinal Pell also declared he should never have faced child sexual assault charges.
Mr Howard was one of 10 people to provide a character reference for the Cardinal following his conviction.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Mr Howard said he often spent time with the "great sports lover" Cardinal Pell at the Sydney cricket test, discussing "all manner of issues".
"His deep and compassionate faith sustained him during more than 400 days in prison for alleged crimes which many, me included, believed should never have been the subject of charges," Mr Howard said.
"Cardinal Pell's trust in Australia's justice system was vindicated when the High Court of Australia unanimously quashed his conviction.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, once known as the Inquisition, and he commenced there in February 1982, beginning a brilliant partnership with the Polish pope. They were very different, Polish and German, extrovert and reserved, public leader perhaps mystic and intellectual, and a philosopher and a theologians' theologian, with an unusual gift for clear and elegant writing. It was here Benedict did his best work, just as some claim Paul Keating was a better treasurer than prime minister and Tony Abbott was Australia's most successful opposition leader and a less effective prime minister.
The then-Cardinal Ratzinger's most outstanding achievement was as president of the committee (1986-92) which produced the Catechism of the Catholic Church, on the beliefs of the faithful, a classic which ranks with the authoritative 1566 Catechism of the Council of Trent. As prefect, he was also involved in the drafting of Pope John Paul II's encyclicals, including the major moral teaching in Veritatis Splendor and Evangelium Vitae. The Marxist substratum in the theology of liberation from South America was exposed and rejected, another important contribution.
He broke with tradition and continued to write while prefect. While it would be untrue to claim that the chief executive of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published only anathemas (for centuries the pope himself was the prefect), they generally published little outside their rulings; until Ratzinger.
In November 2002, the Cardinal was elected by his brother Cardinal bishops as dean of the College of Cardinals, preaching his famous sermon at the funeral mass of Pope John Paul II, denouncing the "dictatorship of relativism".
On April 19, 2005, he was elected pope, the 265th pope, successor of Peter, taking the name Benedict XVI after the founder of rules-based Western monasticism, which provided one of the cornerstones of the Western civilisation in which we still live and which is being steadily eroded.
The new pope continued to write and teach at a level which was historically rare among popes and senior ecclesiastics, as evidenced in his encyclicals Caritas in Veritate, Spe Salvi, and Deus Caritas Est, his discourses to the British and German parliaments, and especially his three volumes on the life of Jesus Christ.
In countries as different as Poland, the United States and Australia, his teaching won over the majority of the young lay Catholics, a minority in their cohorts, who opted to continue to live as Catholics. The changed Church circumstances of recent years have only deepened these Benedictine loyalties. He is loved and has inspired many vocations.
This Mozartian pope understood well the centrality and importance of the liturgy in the life of the Church, the celebration of Mass and sacraments with faith and reverence. Whenever Church life has collapsed, so has liturgical discipline with the official Eucharistic texts abandoned or mutilated and the Sacrament of Penance banished.
He re-established the legitimacy and availability of the Latin Tridentine Mass in 2007 so that each priest has a right to celebrate the "old Mass". This has spread, wider and faster than most expectations, and in France, half the number of seminarians preparing for priesthood follow the Tridentine rite. Pope Francis through his letter Traditionis Custodes is attempting to curb if not quash these enthusiasms.

The Cardinal also expressed his support for the "fraternal letter" that more than 70 bishops of the world, among them Cardinals Francis Arinze, Raymond Burke, Wilfred Napier, and George Pell himself sent to the bishops of Germany to warn that there is a danger of a schism due to the course of the controversial Synodal Way.
"In a time of rapid global communication, what happens in one nation has repercussions on the ecclesial life of other places. In this way, the process of the 'Synodal Way' currently promoted by Catholics in Germany has consequences for the Church on a world scale. This includes the local Churches that we shepherd and the many faithful Catholics for whom we are responsible", affirm the bishops in the letter dated April 11.
"In light of this reality, the situation in Germany compels us to express our growing concern about the nature of the German 'synodal path' process as a whole and the content of its various documents," adds the letter signed by Bishops of United States, Canada, Tanzania, Cameroon and other countries.
The prelates refer that the seven indications that they raise in the letter have their roots in chapter 12 of the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans, especially in the warning not to accommodate "to the present world."
In dialogue with Gavin Ashenden, Cardinal Pell said the letter is an "important initiative" to show "that the vast majority of Catholic bishops in the world uphold Tradition."
In the opinion of the Australian Cardinal, European bishops who seek to change Catholic doctrine "go in the wrong direction" and "make a bad situation worse".
"The basic teachings are very clear," he said, adding that "the strangest thing is that by adopting the teachings of the world around them," the German bishops "think they are going to help the Church. History is unanimous in showing that this is absolutely disastrous."
In Cardinal Pell's opinion, the controversial German Synodal Way is at risk of being hijacked "by the world, the devil and the flesh", the three enemies of the soul that lead to disobeying God.
In May 2021, priests and pastoral agents of the Church in Germany blessed homosexual couples in an event entitled "Love Wins" in more than 100 places throughout the country, with the support of several bishops such as the president of the Episcopal Conference, Mons. Georg B?tzing, and in open rebellion against the explicit prohibition of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican, published on March 15 of that year.
Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich, former president of the German Bishops' Conference and one of the promoters of the Synodal Way, proposed in February the end of celibacy for priests in the Catholic Church.
Cardinal Marx was recently embroiled in a new controversy for his statements to the weekly magazine Stern, published on March 31, saying that the Catechism of the Catholic Church "is not written in stone" and that one can "doubt what does it say".

Vatican trial: the moment of truth for God's bankers
PAOLA TOTARO - MARCH 18, 2022
1/3
Almost 300 years ago, Pope Clement XIII, a pious Dominican in?different to matters temporal, handed over governance of the Papal States to a favoured prelate. It would not end well.
Niccolo Coscia abused his power and quickly amassed a personal fortune until a new Pope charged him with a litany of monetary crimes, among them simony - the buying and selling of ecclesiastical privileges and funds.
When Cardinal Angelo Becciu stepped into the witness box on Thursday in Rome and insisted he had done nothing wrong, he made history by joining his less-than-?illustrious predecessor to become only the second cardinal ever to be hauled to court to answer claims of financial corruption.
Becciu was sacked by Pope Francis in September 2020 after Vatican prosecutors investigating the Secretariat of State, his former department, presented a file bulging with evidence against him, including the funnelling of hundreds of thousands of euros into companies owned by family members. In July last year, after a long and complex investigation into a web of murky deals, Italian authorities charged the disgraced cardinal, the highest profile of 10 defendants, with a raft of allegations of abuse of office, embezzlement, and obstruction of justice.
At the heart of the megatrial is evidence that millions in charitable donations from the faithful, held in a fund known as Peter's Pence, was funnelled into speculative commercial investments, including acquisition of a $400m property at 60 Sloane Avenue in London's fashionable Chelsea.
A former Harrod's showroom, it was to be converted into luxury apartments until the deal turned sour, forcing the Vatican to pay out millions to extricate itself and selling at a huge loss.
The probe by prosecutors has required examination of thousands of documents, analysis of electronic equipment sequestered from suspects, and detailed comparisons between statements provided by a long line of witnesses.
Among those facing charges alongside Becciu are Gianluigi Torzi, who acted as broker when the Vatican bought the London building and then demanded a huge payment to hand over the keys, and Enrico Crasso, another fund manager who used Vatican money to finance Hollywood films, including the Elton John biopic Rocketman. Then there is Cecilia Marogna, a self-described "geopolitical security analyst" who hailed from Becciu's home island of Sardinia and offered the Cardinal and his Secretariat "intelligence services". And also broker Raffaele Mincione, who advised the Vatican to underwrite a vast slab of the fund that owned the London property and promptly used the money to finance his own speculative investments.
Lawyers for several of the accused have spent months arguing the legality of the investigation. There have been accusations of spying and counter accusations of widespread illicit bugging, claims which climaxed spectacularly when Becciu's own deputy, Monsignor Alberto Perlasca, became the prosecutors' star witness.
Despite the legal theatrics, Judge Giuseppe Pignatone surprised even seasoned commentators on March 2 when he threw out all pre-trial motions seeking dismissal of the charges. The judge provided detailed reasons in a 48-page statement paving the way for Becciu's first historic appearance in court this week.
When it comes to the Vatican, truth is often far stranger than fiction and details of a further report prepared by Becciu's successor, Archbishop Pena Parra, in 2018 and released last in April last year added the very real possibility that Pope Francis had no choice but to cut the Vatican's losses and pull out of the soured London deal.
Edward Condon, a canon lawyer and founder of the Catholic website The Pillar, told The Weekend Australian that many observers had watched the ?procedural wrangling of the past few months and expected the entire case to "collapse like a souffle".
"But it cannot. The Vatican as an institution and as a government - as well as Pope Francis's reform credentials - are all on the table now. A Rubicon was crossed with the indictments last year and you simply cannot charge a cardinal - one who occupied a senior position of such importance as Becciu did for so long - and not come to a resolution one way or ?another," he said.
"With the revelations of Becciu and Perlasca in the public eye, a long charge sheet and a rolling ?series of hair-raising revelations and accounts of financial processes ?nobody would recognise, not even in a Dan Brown novel ... once out, it must be resolved."

Accused cardinal hits out at 'monstrous and grotesque' claims
PAOLA TOTARO - MARCH 19, 2022
Angelo Becciu, the disgraced cardinal at the centre of a huge ?financial corruption trial, has come out fighting, describing ?allegations against him as "vulgar, monstrous and grotesque" and vowing to prove he never pocketed a cent of the Vatican's funds.
Sacked by Pope Francis two years ago amid allegations of an array of financial crimes, Becciu is one of 10 defendants accused of money laundering, embezzlement and fraud in the wake of the controversial acquisition of a $400m building in London's Chelsea.
The trial, which opened on Thursday before Giuseppe ?Pignatone, president of a three-judge tribunal, is being held in a large room inside the Vatican Museums because the usual courtrooms are too small to hold the enormous contingent of the defendant's lawyers.
The Vatican is an independent state that operates its own ?system of justice.
The trial is hearing a variety of accusations, including that Becciu, as a senior prelate in the Secretariat of State, funnelled church funds to organisations and charities run by his family in his native island of Sardinia.
The 73-year-old is also at the heart of the mysterious, forced resignation of the Vatican's first independent auditor-general, ?Libero Milone, who he accused of spying and subjected to nine hours of grilling by Vatican police.
Milone had been appointed by Pope Francis in 2015 to conduct rigorous external audits of the church's global funds and to work alongside Cardinal George Pell on a raft of reforms aimed at bringing Vatican finances into the 21st century.
One of the accusations Becciu faces is the unexplained transfer of $2.3m to the Melbourne office of a technology company now implicated in an investigation into Russian interference in the US election. Its timing coincided with Cardinal Pell's trial and the money was at first said to have been for his legal defence, which was shown to be untrue.
As the first defendant to testify on Thursday, Becciu launched a ferocious attack, saying he was the victim of a "massacre" at the hands of the media and that the "insinuations" against him had "worldwide echoes".
"I have been described as a corrupt man, greedy for money, concerned only about the welfare of my family ... they have insinuated infamy about the integrity of my priestly life [saying] I have ?financed witnesses in a trial against colleagues ... even ?accused me of owning oil wells and tax havens," he told the court. "These are incredible accusations, absurd, grotesque, monstrous. I want the truth to be proclaimed as soon as possible.
"I owe it to my conscience, to my former collaborators, to all the men of the Curia and the ?ecclesiastical communities who knew me as the Pope's delegate for the beatification of numerous servants of God in the many countries I have served during my diplomatic service."
Hearings have been adjourned until the end of the month.

Becciu, open letter to Pell
Controversy between the two cardinals over the use of Vatican funds: "You know more than anyone else the pains of an unjust accusation"
Gian Guido Vecchi - December 22, 2021
VATICAN CITY Cardinal Angelo Becciu wrote an "open letter" to Cardinal George Pell "because he is now forced by his numerous interventions in many media which have unfortunately concerned me on several occasions, with arguments that I have heard offensive to my personal dignity ". The letter, disseminated through Becciu's lawyer, continues a controversy between the two cardinals that has lasted for some time .
Pell was until June 2017 the powerful prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy, in charge of making Vatican finances transparent, during the period in which Becciu was Substitute of the Secretariat of State. Even then the situation was tense. Then the Australian cardinal was accused of pedophilia and tried in Australia, where he spent thirteen months in prison until final acquittal last year, unanimously acquitted by the Australian High Court. In the meantime Becciu has ended up on trial for the investment affair with funds from the Secretariat of State, in the center of the purchase of the Sloane Avenue building in London .
The reason for the controversy is the money that, while Pell was accused and on trial, would have been sent by the Vatican to Australia. To frame Pell? "Some are talking about a possible connection between the problems in the world of finance here and my problems in Australia, but we have no proof. We know that some money went from the Vatican to Australia, two million and 230 thousand dollars, but so far no one has explained why, " Pell said in early November . And he recently reiterated the concept in a conversation with the National Catholic Register : "I have a question for Cardinal Becciu. Can you tell us what the money was sent for? " . In his letter, Becciu writes of "reconstructions whose groundlessness is manifest", he observes: "You know more than anyone else the pains of an unjust accusation and the sufferings that an innocent - which, no less than you, I am - must endure during a trial". And he adds: "Bonds of profound respect for the Holy See that we have represented, as well as the cardinalate dignity we hold, should prevent these public provocations, which are hardly understandable to our faithful and to those who would expect a very different attitude from men of the Church". Thus he concludes: "Precisely because of the absolute respect I have towards the Court, strong and alive in me, I will not answer you publicly, but I will wait for the appropriate moment, before the third and impartial judge, to reply point by point and make the Institutions appreciate the absolute groundlessness of the accusations against me. Until then, I trust that this public appeal of mine, extended in any case with a sense of fraternity and ecclesial communion, can better advise you to a different attitude,"

Row at Oxford over lecture invite to Cardinal Pell
Madoc Cairns - 14 OCTOBER 2021
The University of Oxford's Catholic student society has invited Cardinal George Pell to give its prestigious annual lecture, attracting both praise and criticism from within Oxford's Catholic community.
Cardinal Pell, formerly Archbishop of Sydney and Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy from 2014 to 2019, will be giving the Newman Society's annual Thomas More lecture, which is this year entitled "The Suffering Church in a Post-Christian Society".
Pell, born in 1941 in the Australian city of Ballarat, is popular amongst many conservative-minded Catholics for his uncompromising defence of traditional Church teachings.
Some, however, regard him as having polarised opinion within the church and more widely, especially during the years of the clerical sex abuse crisis that has rocked the Church in Australia. Defenders of Pell paint him as a pioneer of safeguarding practices.
In 2017, the cardinal was charged with sexual assault offences against children in his native Victoria.
Although one set of charges was dropped in 2018, Pell was convicted on on five counts of child sexual abuse and, in 2019, sentenced to six years in prison.
In August 2019 Victoria's Court of Appeal struck down a legal challenge by Pell but a final appeal, to the High Court of Australia in April 2020, was successful. Pell's convictions were quashed by a panel of judges who concluded the prosecution had failed to establish the truth of their charges beyond "reasonable doubt".
Pell's conviction and later acquittal made global headlines, and prompted fierce invective from the Cardinal's detractors and defenders.
A longtime theological opponent of Pell, Jesuit priest Frank Brennan, declared the prosecution a politically motivated "show trial". In contrast, the Australian Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests stated after Pell's acquittal: "We believe that this ruling will make others lose their faith in the criminal justice system."
Pell's Oxford lecture will take place November 13, in the university's Examination Schools. After the lecture, a five-course formal dinner will be held in honour of the cardinal at the Catholic chaplaincy.
The cardinal, who graduated with a DPhil from Oxford in 1971, has been a patron of the Newman Society since 2009, when he inaugurated the current iteration of the Thomas More lecture at the Divinity School of the Bodleian Library.
His return to Oxford has sparked criticism from some local Catholics, however, with one graduate of the university appealing to other Catholics to protest.
Dr Katharine Perry, who received a DPhil in theology this year, was a resident of the Catholic chaplaincy between 2017 and 2019.
Speaking to The Tablet, she described the Newman Society's decision as "shockingly insensitive".
She pointed to the 2017 finding by Australia's royal commission into child sexual abuse: "Cardinal Pell was not only conscious of child sexual abuse by clergy, but he also considered measures of avoiding situations which might provoke gossip about it." Perry said she was "stunned" by the society's choice of lecturer.
In a statement, the Newman Society said that it shares "the pain of those protesting", as well as the goal of ending the "scourge of sexual abuse" within the Church.
This goal, however, derives from a principle, justice, that impels the fair treatment of the innocent ,just as it does the punishment of the guilty, the society added.
Pell has been exonerated of those accusations that were brought to court, the society emphasised. As for any allegations that have not been brought to court, Pell's reception by Pope Francis in October 2020 indicates that he remains in good standing across the rest of the Church.
The decision to invite Pell to give the lecture was therefore made following the lead set by juridical and ecclesiastical authorities.

Cardinal Pell at 80
George Weigel - June 16, 2021
Fifteen months ago, it looked as if Cardinal George Pell might spend his 80th birthday in prison. A malicious trolling expedition by the police department of the State of Victoria in his native Australia had led to the cardinal's indictment on manifestly absurd charges of "historic sexual abuse." His first trial ended with a hung jury heavily in favor of acquittal; but because of a court-imposed media blackout on the trial, the public did not know that the defense had shredded the prosecution's case by demonstrating that the alleged crimes couldn't have happened how, when, and where the complainant said they'd happened. The cardinal's retrial ended in an incomprehensible conviction, which was followed by an even more incomprehensible (and feckless) rejection of the cardinal's appeal. Happily - for the sake of an innocent man's liberty and the reputation of Australia's justice system - the country's High Court unanimously quashed the guilty verdict on April 7, 2020, and entered a judgment of "innocent" in the case of Pell v. The Queen.
Cardinal Pell did not waste his 404 days in prison, most of them in solitary confinement. He wrote a daily journal that has become something of a modern spiritual classic; Ignatius Press has been publishing it in three volumes, the last of which will appear in October. Through his Prison Journal, thousands of people around the world have discovered the real George Pell: a man of rock-solid faith, keen intelligence, deep compassion for the confusions that beset the human race, and a determination to live out the priestly ministry to which he committed himself when he was ordained by Cardinal Gregory Peter Agagianian (runner-up to John XXIII in the conclave of 1958) on December 16, 1966.
I'm happy that so many others have now discovered the truth about this good and great man, not least because he and I have been friends since he spent his post-ordination summer in my Baltimore parish, in between his Roman theological studies and his doctoral work at Oxford. Over that half-century, we've discussed just about everything. And while the cardinal has not converted me to the virtues of cricket, we are of one mind on so many other things that we've worked in close harness on several occasions.
Thus it strikes me as providential that Cardinal Pell's 80th birthday falls while the universal Church is being roiled by the German "Synodal Way: a process that, absent a decisive Roman intervention (and perhaps even in the face of that), seems likely to confirm that institutional Catholicism in Germany is in a state of apostasy. Providential, because without George Pell's leadership as archbishop of Melbourne and then cardinal archbishop of Sydney, Australia might well have become the kind of ecclesiastical disaster area Germany is today - although the Aussies would have gotten there 25 years earlier.
His enemies will never admit it, but Cardinal George Pell saved the Church in Australia from dissolving into a Liquid Catholicism indistinguishable from Liberal Protestantism. He did so by his defense of Vatican II as renewal within tradition; by his reform of the priesthood and his care for sexual abuse victims in the dioceses he led; by his unwavering support of Catholic orthodoxy in the teeth of fierce cultural headwinds that cowed many of his brother bishops; by championing serious Catholic intellectual life in a variety of initiatives; and by hosting Sydney's World Youth Day-2008, which evangelically energized young Australian Catholics as Denver's World Youth Day-1993 had done for young American Catholics. Without George Pell's leadership and his willingness to stand for the truth against vicious criticism, Catholicism Down Under in 2021 might well look like the moribund Church in much of Germany today, but absent the Germans' vast, tax-supported wealth.
Cardinal Pell's work to clean the Augean stables of Vatican finance remains to be completed and questions about possible links between that work and his prosecution remain to be answered. Nonetheless, the cardinal's grace under extraordinary pressure and the dignity with which he conducted himself before, during, and after his imprisonment have made him one of the most influential elders in the Catholic Church today. That he lost his vote in a future conclave on June 8 does not mean that he will be sidelined in the really consequential discussions of the Church's future. He will be very much at the center of those conversations, now wielding the moral authority he has rightly won as a contemporary confessor.
The man I have known and cherished since the summer of 1967 was not built for quiescence. His voice will be heard. And it will be heard where it counts.

Pell's prison meditations on St. John Fisher and, inter alia, the Prophet Elijah, show that he knows well that defense of religious truth can be a solitary path. It was not a solitary path for Cardinal Pell, as he had widespread support the world over, as any fair-minded person could see that Pell was the victim of unscrupulous prosecution and police misconduct. Pell received over four thousand letters in a 404-day prison stay.
Cardinal Pell was not alone, despite being kept in solitary confinement-for his own safety-for more than a year, denied the opportunity to offer the Holy Mass entirely. Yet his witness, the unexpected crown of a distinguished life of ecclesial service, will prepare others who will be unjustly deprived for their fidelity to what he calls "Gospel Christianity"-the faith delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).
Long before Cardinal Pell faced his accusers with equanimity and grace-both natural and supernatural-he was an inspiration to many like me. He was one of the great lieutenants of the John Paul/Ratzinger years, a rough equivalent Down Under of Cardinal John O'Connor.
Pell kept a picture of O'Connor in his office and had invited the New York cardinal to Melbourne to dedicate a new altar in the cathedral-also called St. Patrick's. (He would outdo himself in Sydney, where he had Pope Benedict XVI consecrate the new altar.)
At eighty, Pell's legacy is vast. He reinvigorated the two leading archdioceses of Australia, Melbourne and Sydney, hosted a massively successful World Youth Day in 2008, led the commission that produced a more faithful and elegant translation of the Roman Missal in English, and spearheaded the Vatican's financial reforms.
That impact will be magnified by those whom he personally influenced, whether through friendship at close quarters or inspiring them from a distance. Likely the most consequential Australian Catholic since Dr. Daniel Mannix, archbishop of Melbourne for forty-six years, and the intellectual and political actor B. A. Santamaria, Cardinal Pell became one of the most important churchmen anywhere in the early years of the third millennium.
His portrait is hanging proudly in my office. And it is a blessing for me to explain to my students who he is and why they should admire him, as I do.
Be not afraid, indeed. Ad multos annos, Cardinal Pell!

Cardinal Pell Represents the Life of the Church in Our Age
COMMENTARY: The cardinal, who turns 80 June 8, is a welcome presence in Rome these days.
Father Raymond J. de Souza - June 7, 2021
1/2
Cardinal George Pell turns 80 on June 8. He has, to an extraordinary degree, represented in his person the life of the Church in our age.
Ordained a priest in 1966, he would live the first 20 years of his priesthood in the post-Vatican II turmoil that afflicted the Church in Australia. A priest in Ballarat, he served in the 1970s under Bishop Ronald Mulkearns, later discovered to be greatly negligent in one of Australia's most notorious cases of clerical sexual abuse.
Pell's brilliance was evident in those early years. After his ecclesiastical degrees in Rome, he got a doctorate in Church history from Oxford. He returned to his native Ballarat, clearly one of the more capable leaders. The question was whether the increasingly unmoored Church in Australia was looking for his kind of leadership.
A New Kind of Bishop - 1980s
Father Pell was appointed in 1987 as the auxiliary bishop of Melbourne. At the relatively young age of 45, he was an example of the Pope John Paul II turn in episcopal appointments. Melbourne was led by Archbishop Frank Little, a man not particularly suited to turning Australia's largest diocese in a more affirmatively orthodox direction. Archbishop Little was not altogether different from the other Australian bishops at the time; the appointment of the young Bishop Pell was an attempt to change that.
Clear Teaching - 1990s
A sign that Bishop Pell was not just another auxiliary bishop was his appointment as one of the bishop members of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). He served from 1990 to 2000 in that role, customarily reserved for much more senior bishops and cardinals.
Given the evident esteem in Rome from St. John Paul II and Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, it followed that Bishop Pell was named archbishop of Melbourne, succeeding Archbishop Little in 1996.
Archbishop Pell was engaged in the CDF during one of the most consequential teaching decades in the entire papal magisterium, when the John Paul II/Ratzinger partnership reached the apex of productivity and fruitfulness. The 1990s saw the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992) and major encyclicals on social doctrine (Centesimus Annus, 1991), the missionary nature of the Church (Redemptoris Missio, 1990) and the dignity of life (Evangelium Vitae, 1995). The compatibility of faith and reason was affirmed (Fides et Ratio, 1998), and the rejection of relativism in the moral life (Veritatis Splendor, 1993) was declared.
As a bishop member of the CDF, Archbishop Pell would not have been involved in the details of such documents, but he was at the center of teaching activity in a most consequential decade.

The call never came: Victoria's China deal was done through Premier Daniel Andrews' office
Anthony Galloway - April 23, 2021
1/2
When Premier Daniel Andrews suggested he wanted to pursue a Belt and Road agreement with the Chinese government, senior officials in Victoria's jobs department waited to be called upon. That was five years ago. The call never came.
The Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources would ordinarily be the area to go to negotiate such an agreement with a foreign government. It had the trade expertise, the Global Victoria offices in China and the links into the Commonwealth's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to make it happen and ensure it was done correctly.
Instead, Andrews ran the show out of his own office and department. The deal was kept a closely guarded affair, with Andrews and then-secretary of Department of Premier and Cabinet, Chris eccles, intimately involved in the process. The jobs department, along with the then-trade minister Philip Dalidakis, were sidelined.
A government spokeswoman on Thursday confirmed the process was led by the Premier's department but insisted the jobs department was kept in the loop.
With fanfare, the Victorian government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese government on October 8, 2018, and a later "framework" agreement on October 23, 2019. While DFAT was consulted on the first agreement, it never saw the second deal until it was announced in the media. The deals signed Victoria onto China's $1.5 trillion global infrastructure initiative, allowing for Chinese investment in Victoria and for Victorian companies to participate in Chinese government projects overseas under the Belt and Road Initiative banner. Neither deal was ever approved by Andrews' cabinet.
This week, all that work came crashing down. The federal government announced on Wednesday night it had cancelled the two Victorian deals made under Chinese President Xi Jinping's signature foreign policy, on the grounds that they contradicted Australia's national interest.
With Andrews still on leave recovering from a spinal injury, not a single member of the state government would defend the deal on Thursday. Employment and Small Business Minister Jaala Pulford said cancelling the BRI agreement would not have an adverse effect on the state's pipeline of infrastructure projects, adding it was "a matter for the Commonwealth government".
National security experts were left wondering: How did we get here? Why did the state government press ahead with two agreements that signed up to another country's foreign policy effectively against the wishes of Canberra? Why wasn't it stopped sooner?
Had Andrews consulted his own trade and foreign policy experts in the jobs department, they might have told him that Canberra was just waking up to the growing threat of the BRI in the region. The federal government was growing increasingly concerned about China's "debt-trap diplomacy" under the scheme, whereby developing countries are loaded with unsustainable debts with the intention of extracting economic or political concessions. Canberra had already begun countering China's growing assertiveness in the Pacific with its own infrastructure packages for the region.
Had Andrews consulted his own federal Labor colleagues, they might have told him that while the opposition didn't rule out supporting individual BRI projects, it was its policy not to sign up to the program as a whole. Had he consulted either then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull or his successor, Scott Morrison, they might have told him that the politics on China was rapidly changing.
Along the way, many theories emerged about why Andrews was so close to China, with seemingly no economic benefit when compared to other states. The links of some of his staffers were put under intense scrutiny.
Andrews's adviser Marty Mei was named a "special consultant" to the Shenzhen Association of Australia, part of a network of groups run by the Chinese Communist Party's United Front Work Department. His electorate officer, Nancy Yang, once undertook a CCP propaganda training course and last year posted a series of articles and videos on social media suggesting the coronavirus was created by the United States and transported to China by the US Army. Andrews repeatedly defended both of his staffers.
Andrews visited China six times as Premier and at least once as opposition leader. He also made all of his ministers visit the country at least once.
It also must be said that Andrews's penchant for centralising decision-making wasn't confined to the BRI deals; from the Suburban Rail Loop to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Victorian Premier has always been criticised for avoiding internal stakeholders that may object or have a different point of view.

David Marr said to me once, without rancour, that he thought George Pell had the temperament to be a first class headmaster and it's a bit amazing to see a man of such natural authority wrestling with his God and his wretchedness.
It's Richter ("who is not a theist but Jewish" the Cardinal reminds himself) who tells him to read the Book of Job, that blackest and most tragic book in the Hebrew Bible. When Pell does revisit it, he argues for the superiority of the Christian vision of redemption compared to the Jewish conception of human identity disappearing as a cloud dissolves when it goes down to Sheol.
This is par for the course and so is his description of the Book of ecclesiastes ("vanity of vanities ... the silver cord is loosed and the golden bowl is broken") as the most pagan book in the Bible. This is not incompatible with the tough cleaner up of Vatican finances or the unyielding bishop who refused communion to those rainbow-sashed gay activists.
What does hit the heart strangely is this kind of thing: "God ... give me strength and peace of mind and help my fellow prisoners, especially those who are bad or disturbed or desperately unhappy."
We expect to cop the George Pell who believes in judgment and damnation and the church's God-given right and duty to preach traditional morality including what should and should not be done in the bedroom. But we don't expect this kind of prayerfulness or rigour, this implicit compassion.
Each of the daily journal entries of some thousands of words ends with a prayer of Pell's own composition or a quotation of his breviary or from some spiritual classic.
So we get Augustine's yearning to look into the eyes of the most High. "Hide not your face from me. Let me see your face even if I die, lest I die with longing to see it."
And Thomas More's prayer: "To think my most enemies, my best friends; for the brethren of Joseph could never have done him so much good with their love and favour as they did him with their malice and hatred."
There is a constant emphasis on mercy and forgiveness, even though these journals are the work of a naturally forceful man who is both politically and religiously conservative. He says, eloquently enough, "God will forgive any crime" and adds, not unconvincingly, "If Christianity continues to decline, society will be less forgiving."
He's sometimes inclined to sound like a high and mighty Catholic version of Israel Folau ("A decent man of simple Christian faith, an old type Protestant") and admits "starting the Christian defence of freedom of speech and freedom of religion with Folau is not ideal". But he does want to argue that the promiscuities of sexual liberation are not on.
For some of his co-religionists - including those masters of the manners of the world, the Jesuits - Pell probably represents the challenging paradox of how to tolerate the intolerant.
He thinks that Donald Trump is "a barbarian" but he's "our barbarian": though Trump's election makes him as opposed to the direct election of an Australian president as he was back at the Constitutional Convention in 1998 when he was a republican of the minimalist Turnbull/Keating variety.

His Eminence Cardinal George Pell to Deliver 2021 Commencement Address
13 January 2021
Ave Maria University President Christopher P. Ice is pleased to announce His Eminence Cardinal George Pell will deliver the Commencement address to Ave Maria University class of 2021. Pell will be one of the highest ranking Catholic Church officials to address Ave Maria University graduates and will be presented an honorary degree at the ceremony on Saturday, May 8, in Ave Maria, Florida.
Pell served as an ecclesial Advisor to Ave Maria University upon its founding in 2003.
According to Ice, when the invitation was extended, Pell expressed excitement and had many questions about the state of the University and overall development of the town. "Cardinal Pell is looking forward to seeing the progress of the university and the town upon his return," said Ice.
Pell was ordained a priest in 1966, a bishop in 1987, and was made a cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2003. In 2014, Pope Francis appointed Pell Prefect of the newly-created Secretariat for the Economy at the Vatican. In 2018, Pell was forced to leave Rome to face allegations he had abused two young boys during his time in Melbourne, Australia, a charge Pell vehemently denied. "The allegations involve vile and disgusting conduct contrary to everything I hold dear and contrary to the explicit teachings of the Church which I have spent my life representing," said Pell.
Despite his contention, Pell was wrongfully convicted of the charges, led off in handcuffs and shackles to begin serving a six year prison sentence. After serving 13 months in jail, eight of which were spent in solitary confinement, the Australian High Court unanimously overturned his conviction (7-0), and righted this previous injustice.
While imprisoned, Pell kept a journal telling of his struggles, faith, and perseverance. According to the National Catholic Register's Senior Editor, Joan Frawley Desmond,
"In the most moving passages of the first volume of his journal, the cardinal's spirits are buoyed by the countless letters of support and instruction he receives from well-wishers across the globe, many of them Catholics who believe he is being persecuted for his faith.
"These letters have changed my time in jail, my daily program, my thinking and praying, my peace of mind," Pell writes.
During daily prayer and reading, Pell also finds inspiration in the example of the saints, especially the martyrdom of Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher, and believes he has been targeted because of his faith and prominence as a Catholic leader. "I am caught in the struggle between good and evil," Pell concludes at one point.
"Cardinal Pell has proven to be a stalwart of the Catholic faith and sets a great example of how to suffer with dignity," said Ice.
Commencement will occur on the Gyrene Field at 9:00 a.m. (Saturday, May 8). Seating is limited.

Cardinal convicted, acquitted of sexual abuse charges to speak at Ave Maria University graduation
Rachel Fradette - Feb. 26, 2021
Australian Cardinal George Pell, who was accused, convicted and then acquitted of sexual abuse charges, will speak at Ave Maria University's commencement where he will also receive an honorary degree from the school.
Pell will be one of the highest-ranking Catholic Church officials to have addressed the university's graduates, according to the school.
Pell, who once served as the Vatican's Secretariat for the Economy, spent more than a year in prison following his conviction in 2018. The High Court of Australia overturned his conviction in April 2020.
Ave Maria University President Christopher Ice said Pell expressed to him his excitement to attend and speak at commencement.
"He went on to articulate and ask me a lot of questions about the local community and university and how things are going, very much in tune and in touch," Ice said.
Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan founded the private Catholic university in 2003.
Pell served as an ecclesial adviser to the university during its founding, according to Ice. In that role, Pell helped develop the Catholic teachings and principles for the school, Ice said.
Pell, who was accused of sexually abusing two teenage boys in the 1990s, had his case overturned by Australia's High Court.
Following his acquittal, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, said the ruling was "disappointing."
"We believe that this ruling will make victims lose their faith in the criminal justice system and will send the message that survivors should stay hidden and silent rather than come forward and seek justice," SNAP Australia said in a statement following the verdict.
Ice said he does not anticipate opposition by Ave Maria's community to Pell's invitation to speak and receive an honorary degree.
As for survivors of clergy sexual abuse, Ice said he hopes this invitation can be a "healing moment."
In the past, other Ave Maria commencement speakers included then-Gov. Rick Scott, former Gov. Jeb Bush and then-U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
DeVos' visit in 2018 led to debates among AMU alumni about whether she should have received an invitation from the university.
In 2019, then-Vice President Mike Pence also visited the Catholic college where he gave a speech on the Trump administration's focus on religious freedom.
About 215 students will receive their degrees at the school's May 8 ceremony on Gyrene Field on the school's campus.
In December, the university hosted fall commencement that required attendees to spread out and wear masks. Ice said these safety measures will be in place for spring graduation.
Currently, the school has two active cases of COVID-19. So far this semester 35 people have tested positive for the virus, according to the school.
Ice, who started his tenure last January, said his first year was an adjustment. Ice is Ave Maria University's third president.
"This first year is pretty tumultuous as you can imagine with all the things going on, but I'm really, really settling in, and things are going very well," Ice said.

Nuzzi writes that the COSEA commissioners were deeply perturbed by the crime and that it ratcheted up the psychological pressure, layering it on top of the institutional pressure they were already experiencing.
"From that day, they felt vulnerable, observed, spied on. The theory that this was an intimidatory act was also accepted at the most senior levels when the news was relayed to the Pope and to Pell who had only been in his new post a couple of weeks."
The climate of threats and fear- mongering was exacerbated a few days later when Pell's private secretary, Melbourne lawyer Father Mark Withoos, was warned that his boss might be being followed. He raised the claim with security as required and also with Pell. who counselled "caution" and told him they needed "nerves of steel" and that a "psychological war" was under way that aimed to frighten and disorient them.
"He was told these were actions designed to distract those who were loyal to the Pope from the very real problems they were about to confront."
However, the mystery would deepen further when an envelope was found in the pigeonholes used for mail distribution in the Vatican Prefecture. It was found on the morning of April 26, on the eve of a mass for the canonisation of John Paul II when thousands of pilgrims were expected to converge on St Peter's Square and security in the Vatican should have been at its most stringent.
Inside, Vatican security found part of the dossier of papers stolen from the COSEA secret archive, most of them missives between key figures in the 1970 Vatican Bank scandal that resulted in the death of banker Calvi.
"In particular, the thieves seemed to have wanted to return confidential correspondence, dating back to 1970, between senior Vatican officials and the P2 Masonic fixer, Umberto Ortolani and the banker, Michele Sindona, including several letters from the latter to the ecclesiastical hierarchy of the time ... these are names that are the cause of serious embarrassment to the Holy See."
Sindona was the man linked to the most powerful and dangerous Cosa Nostra bosses active in the US in the 1960s, including Don Vito Genovese and John Gambino. The Sicilian fixer, along with Monsignor Paul Casimir Marcinkus and Calvi, had been a protagonist in one of the most troubled periods in the Vatican's financial history. Calvi was found hanged under mysterious circumstances under London's Blackfriars Bridge on June 18, 1982, while Sindona was found dead in prison on March 20, 1986 after drinking coffee laced with cyanide only a few days after being sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of lawyer Giorgio Ambrosoli, the liquidator of one of its banks. While investigators believed for many years that both cases had been suicides, Calvi was found to have been murdered six years after his death, although the accused were ultimately acquitted.
Nuzzi writes that within the Vatican, senior figures counselled against alarmism but queried and debated how this act should be viewed: "What message is contained in the return of these documents. Talking to friends (Maltese economist and Vatican auditor) Joseph Zahra describes it as an act of war while Pell tried to send messages of reassurance and to show that he has not been thrown by events."
Indeed, in an interview some weeks later published in the Italian press, Pell - certainly in retrospect - appeared to offer a veiled reference to the theft, saying it was time to say "enough to scandals .... I am proceeding with perseverance. Nunc coepi (now I begin). We are moving ahead and we must improve but one thing is certain: we've had enough of Calvi and Sindona, enough with surprise news delivered in newspapers. We need transparency in finance, professionalism and modernity in methods. And honesty."

Resignations in the news
Victoria's top health bureaucrat Kym Peake resigns following coronavirus hotel quarantine inquiry
The head of Victoria's health department has resigned "to pursue other opportunities", less than two months after facing the state's hotel quarantine inquiry.
Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) secretary Kym Peake came under fire at the inquiry for refusing to accept blame for the ill-fated program, claiming it was not solely her department's responsibility.
Ms Peake told the inquiry the program was run across multiple government departments despite evidence at the inquiry stating the public health administration body was in charge after the program was established.
During two days of at-times heated questioning, Ms Peake said it was a "matter of profound regret" that Victoria experienced a second wave.
"Kym Peake, who has served in the role for the last five years, has decided to step down from the position to pursue other opportunities," the Government said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.
Ms Peake announced her departure in an email to DHHS staff on Thursday, and referenced the "enormous collective effort" of recording consecutive days without coronavirus cases.
"You know that I believe in depth of leadership and the importance of new perspectives. This is how we will continue to maintain the hard-won gains against the virus and ensure we build back better," she wrote.
"After deep reflection, I have decided to leave the Department. I do so knowing I leave it in incredibly capable hands."
Ms Peake's resignation comes a month after the head of the Department and Premier and Cabinet, Chris eccles, quit his role.
She was one of several politicians and bureaucrats, including the state's Chief Health Officer, asked to provide additional evidence to the inquiry last month.
The wait for the documents meant the final findings will be handed down before December 21, instead of the original deadline of November 6.
Instead, an interim report handed down last week made recommendations for the resumption of the state's hotel quarantine scheme.
Ms Peake revealed to the inquiry that she did always pass on issues in hotel quarantine to then-minister Jenny Mikakos, an issue that the interim report of the Coate inquiry highlighted.

Former Premier Will Hodgman steps down as business fund chair
FORMER Premier Will Hodgman has stepped down as the chair of the Australian Business Growth Fund, Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced.
Mr Hodgman, who resigned as Premier in January this year, was appointed as the inaugural chair of the fund in April.
No reason for Mr Hodgman's departure was revealed by Mr Frydenberg.
He will be replaced by former NSW Premier Michael Baird.
The $540 million fund was announced as a federal government measure to support small and medium businesses through to coronavirus pandemic.
At the time of his appointment, Mr Hodgman said he was excited about the new opportunity.
"It won't be a full time job, but I'll be giving it 100 per cent. Coming from a state that's predominantly a small business state, I certainly understand the power of the small business sector to drive our economy and as we enter into recovery, this fund will play a very important role in that."
Comment was sought from Mr Hodgman.

eccles 'absolutely certain' he did not make private security decision
In a written statement to the hotel quarantine inquiry, Mr Ashton said he sent a text message to Mr eccles at 1:16pm on March 27 saying:
"Chris I am getting word from Canberra for a plan whereby arrivals from overseas are to be subjected to enforced isolation from tomorrow.
"The suggestion is Victorian arrivals are conveyed to a hotel Somewhere where they are guarded by police for 14 days.
"Are you aware of anything in this regard?? Graham."
Mr Ashton's statement said he did not receive a reply to that text message and could not recall whether anyone phoned him about the private security arrangements.
Mr Ashton's statement said he sent a text message at 1:22pm to Australian Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw and said:
"Mate my advise [sic] is that ADF will do Passenger transfer and private security will be used."
Mr eccles told the hotel quarantine inquiry he could not recall whether he called Mr Ashton following that 1:16pm text message.
Today, he said he did not have his full telephone records until the hotel quarantine inquiry requested them on Saturday.
But he said although the telephone records show he did call the then-chief commissioner on March 27, they did not show that he or anyone in the Premier's department made the decision to use private security.
"I am absolutely certain I did not convey to Mr Ashton any decision regarding the use of private security as I was unaware any such decision had been made, and I most certainly had not made such a decision myself," Mr eccles said.
Mr eccles said he was resigning because he did not want to distract from the Government's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
"I do not want a focus on me to in any way undermine the extraordinary work of the public sector as it continues to respond to unprecedented challenges of 2020," he said.
The Premier said Mr eccles advised his department about the March 27 phone call late yesterday.
"Until last night, I had understood that Mr eccles did not know if he had telephoned Mr Ashton at that time," Mr Andrews said in a statement.
"That matter is now beyond doubt."
Responding to Mr eccles' resignation, Opposition Leader Michael O'Brien said Mr Andrews was ultimately responsible.
"All roads lead to Daniel Andrews," he said.
"How many other careers are going to be thrown under a bus to protect this Premier? The buck stops with Daniel Andrews."

Resignations in the news
Chris eccles, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews' top bureaucrat, resigns after hotel quarantine inquiry requests phone records
1/2
Premier Daniel Andrews says he was "shocked" to discover that his top bureaucrat called then-police commissioner Graham Ashton during a crucial six-minute window on the day the hotel quarantine program was set up.
Chris eccles, the secretary of Victoria's Department of Premier and Cabinet, announced his resignation today after phone records requested by the hotel quarantine inquiry showed he made a two-minute phone call to Mr Ashton on March 27.
No-one who gave evidence to that inquiry could recall who made the decision to use private security contractors to guard returned travellers.
But a timeline provided by Victoria Police said sometime between 1:16pm and 1:22pm on March 27, Mr Ashton was called and advised that private security would be used. Mr Ashton could not remember who called him.
When he fronted the hotel quarantine inquiry in September, Mr eccles said he could not recall calling Mr Ashton during this window, despite receiving a text message from the then-police commissioner at 1:16pm asking about the hotel quarantine plans.
On the weekend, Mr Andrews revealed the quarantine inquiry had requested the phone records of the Premier and his senior staff.
In his resignation statement today, Mr eccles said his phone records showed he did call Mr Ashton for just over two minutes at 1:17pm.
"There has been much commentary and speculation about whether I or anyone else at [the Department of Premier and Cabinet] spoke to Mr Ashton during that narrow timeframe on 27 March," Mr eccles said in his resignation statement.
"It is now evident I did."
Today, Mr Andrews said did not know about the March 27 phone call until Mr eccles informed his department last night.
He also said he thought Mr eccles "made the right choice" in resigning, and he had not spoken to Mr eccles about their evidence to the hotel quarantine inquiry.
"I don't think it's appropriate that witnesses should be talking to each other in their capacity as witnesses," he said.
"I was shocked when I was informed last night that this call had been made, and that a detailed examination of his phone records had shown that."
However Mr eccles said his phone call to Mr Ashton did not mean the decision to use private security came from him or the Premier's department.

Cardinal Becciu accused of sending Vatican funds to Australia during Cardinal Pell trial
1/2
Italian media have reported allegations that Cardinal Angelo Becciu transferred several hundred thousand euros from Vatican accounts to an account in Australia during the trial of Cardinal George Pell.
The cardinal has not responded to the allegation, which CNA has not independently corroborated.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported Friday that the alleged transfer is part of a dossier of evidence being compiled by Vatican investigators and prosecutors against the cardinal, who was forced to resign by Pope Francis on Sept. 24.
According to the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, the allegations were made by Msgr. Albert Perlasca, Becciu's former chief deputy at the Secretariat of State. Perlasca and Becciu worked together for several years overseeing aspects of curial governance, including the investment Vatican finances.
Perlasca is believed to be cooperating with Vatican prosecutors as part of an ongoing investigation into financial misconduct at the Secretariat of State over a period of years.
Il Messagaro reported on Friday that, in discussions with Vatican prosecutors, Perlasca accused Becciu of transferring 700,000 euros from a Vatican account to an Australian account during the course of Pell's trail in Victoria on charges of child sexual abuse. The paper did not specify when Perlasca first made the accusation, did not give a precise date for the alleged transfer, and did not indicate to whom the account in Australia was supposed to belong.
CNA has not confirmed the substance of the accusation, which is likely to make global headlines after years of speculation by supporters of Pell that the timing of sexual abuse allegations against him was linked to efforts to oppose his reform of Vatican finances.
Perlasca worked as the head of the administrative office from 2009 until July 2019, when Pope Francis appointed him Promoter of Justice at the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature; chief prosecutor of the Church's highest ecclesiastical court. Becciu served as sostituto, the second most senior position in the secretariat, from 20012-2018, when he was promoted to lead the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and made a cardinal.
In February, Perlasca's home and office were raided by investigators over his participation in the Vatican's investment of hundreds of millions of euros with the Italian financier Raffaele Mincione.
On Sept. 24, Cardinal Becciu was ordered to resign from his role at the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and the rights and privileges of a cardinal, after Pope Francis was presented with evidence of serial financial misconduct by Becciu.
Becciu's resignation followed more than a year of reporting by CNA and other news outlets on various financial scandals involving Becciu and the Holy See's Secretariat of State. Many of those reports stemmed from the secretariat's controversial investments through Mincione, including the purchase from him of a London property for hundreds of millions of dollars.
Becciu has maintained he is innocent of any wrongdoing.

Charlie Whiting: F1 race director dies aged 66 on eve of season-opener in Melbourne
Sourced from QRes#7254
Charlie Whiting, the head of Formula 1 for governing body the FIA and one of the most influential people in the sport for decades, has died aged 66.
Whiting suffered a pulmonary embolism on Thursday morning in Melbourne, where he was due to officiate this weekend's season-opening Australian GP.
Whiting was the official race starter and oversaw all rules matters in F1.
FIA president Jean Todt called Whiting "a central and inimitable figure who embodied the ethics and spirit" of F1.
Whiting had worked for the FIA since 1988, when he joined initially as technical director.
He was previously chief mechanic and then chief engineer of former F1 boss Bernie ecclestone's Brabham team, which won world championships in 1981 and 1983.
Whiting began his F1 career with the Hesketh team in 1977, moving to Brabham for 1978 and staying there until he joined the FIA, where he had been a central part of the organisation's running of F1 ever since.
Charlie was a great man who will be sadly missed by the entire Formula 1 paddock
Christian Horner
Red Bull team principal
Todt added: "Formula 1 has lost a faithful friend and a charismatic ambassador in Charlie."
Ex-team boss Ross Brawn, now F1's managing director, said: "I have known Charlie for all of my racing life. We worked as mechanics together, became friends and spent so much time together at race tracks across the world.
"I was filled with immense sadness when I heard the tragic news. I'm devastated. It is a great loss not only for me personally but also the entire Formula 1 family, the FIA and motorsport as a whole. All our thoughts go out to his family."
Whiting's death leaves a hole in the FIA's organisation of the Australian Grand Prix - he was the go-to person for teams on all matters pertaining to an F1 weekend.
The FIA has not yet announced how he will be replaced.

The unfair, anti-Catholic conviction of Cardinal George Pell
Sourced from QRes#6965 - and posting here (even though I strongly disagree with its opinions) to show Aus Anons whats being said in MSM/QRes by a few.
By George Weigel
No one with a sense of justice can fail to be outraged when, in "To Kill a Mockingbird," a jury in Maycomb, Ala., bows to social pressure and convicts an innocent man of a crime he couldn't have committed.
Something similar took place last month in real-world Melbourne, Australia, where Cardinal George Pell was falsely and perversely convicted on charges of "historic sexual abuse" dating to the 1990s.
The facts of the case have been hard to come by, owing to a media gag order issued by the trial judge. A journalistic feeding frenzy has long surrounded Pell, the former Catholic archbishop of Melbourne and Sydney and later the Vatican's chief financial officer.
The trial judge was rightly concerned that opening the proceedings would make it impossible for Pell to get a fair trial on charges he forcefully denies. That order has left Australians largely in the dark. But certain facts are known, and others can be reasonably inferred.
The cardinal's first trial ended in a hung jury, with 10 of 12 jurors in favor of acquittal.
In the retrial, the defense again demonstrated that it was physically impossible for the alleged abuse of two choirboys (one now deceased) to have occurred, given the layout and security arrangements of Melbourne's Catholic cathedral and the fact that the choir and Pell were in two different places when the abuse was alleged to have occurred.
Pell, moreover, was always surrounded by others at the cathedral that day in 1996. Why the Melbourne police never took the trouble to investigate these exculpatory facts is one of several mysteries in this sordid affair.
The retrial jury took days to reach a verdict, during which the jurors asked the trial judge for instructions on how evidence should be considered. That an overwhelming vote for acquittal at the first trial was then flipped to a unanimous verdict for conviction invites the inference that the jury chose to ignore evidence that the alleged crimes couldn't have happened.
Legal authorities can debate some of the curiosities of the criminal justice system in Melbourne. Why, for example, can't a defendant request a bench trial by a judge alone, when a prejudicial public atmosphere makes the selection of an impartial jury virtually impossible?
How can a crime alleged to have been committed 22 years ago be prosecuted without any corroborating evidence that it occurred?
How can charges be brought when the public authorities could have easily determined that the alleged abuse couldn't have happened, because the victims and the alleged perpetrator were never in close proximity, much less by themselves without witnesses?
Any judgment on the Pell verdict must also take full account of the atmosphere in which the cardinal's case was heard. Anti-Catholicism has been a staple of Australia's culture for decades. Local media long misrepresented Pell, a Church reformer, as a power-hungry ecclesiastical politician, and that caricature made him a convenient scapegoat for the grave crimes of other priests and bishops.
Yet as archbishop of Melbourne, Pell set up Australia's first process for investigating and compensating claims of clerical sexual abuse. And as archbishop of Sydney, he applied strict protocols to himself, stepping aside until previous spurious abuse charges against him were thoroughly investigated - and dismissed - by a former Australian supreme court justice.

The Jewish Encyclopedia (Vol. 2, p. 497) admits that: "It is a somewhat curious sequel to the attempt to set up a Catholic competitor to the Rothschilds that at the present time (1905) the latter are the guardians of the papal treasure."

"If you are not an American you will understand why your country is on its present course, as it too is controlled by the Jesuit General through his select Jesuits, Knights of Malta, Shriner Freemasons, the Knights of Columbus, and the Illuminati's Masonic, Cabalistic, Labor Zionist, Sabbatian Frankist (named after the Black Pope's baptized Jacob Frank), Jewish House of Rothschild. For the Order controlled the infamous House of Rothschild since no later than the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, after which Jesuit-led Crusade the Rothschild family was surnamed the "Guardians of the Vatican Treasury."
Eric Jon Phelps, "Vatican Assassins", 3rd Ed., p.90
The Vatican Treasury, of course, holds the imperial wealth of Rome. Imperial wealth grows in proportion to its victories in war - as the Jesuit empowerment Regimini militantis ecclesiae implies, the Church-at-War is more necessary than the Church-at-Peace.
According to H. Russell Robinson's illustrated Armour of Imperial Rome, Caesarean soldiers protect themselves in battle with shields painted red. Since the soldiery is the State's most valuable resource (the Council of Trent admitted this in preferring the Jesuits to all other religious orders), it is easy to understand why the red shield was identified with the very life of the Church. Hence, the appropriateness of the name Rothschild, German for "red shield."
The appointment of Rothschild gave the black papacy absolute financial privacy and secrecy. Who would ever search a family of orthodox Jews for the key to the wealth of the Roman Catholic Church? I believe this appointment explains why the House of Rothschild is famous for helping nations go to war.
It is fascinating that, as Meyer Rothschild's sons grew into the family business, the firm took on the title Meyer Amschel Rothschild und Sohne, which gives us the notariqon MARS. Isn't Mars the Roman God of War, whose heavenly manifestation is "the red planet"? There is powerful cabalah here, and there's hardly an acre of inhabitable earth that hasn't been affected by it in some way."

EXCLUSIVE: Archbishop Vigano Calls Out Words of Pope Francis's 'President of the Pontifical Academy for Life' for Praising Law Legalizing Abortion
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/08/exclusive-archbishop-vigano/
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano released a statement yesterday condemning the recent comments of Pope Francis's President of the Pontifical Academy for Life Vicenzo Paglia, who shared that the law legalizing abortion is "a pillar of our social life".
Archbishop Vigano's exclusive message is as follows:
The President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Vincenzo Paglia, in the course of an interview given to Italian television channel RaiTre on August 26 (here), referred to the infamous Law 194 legalizing abortion as "a pillar of our social life," scandalizing millions of Italian Catholics who are faithful to the Magisterium and are still mindful of the fiery words of John Paul II against that horrible crime, which in Italy alone has sacrificed over six million innocent children on the altar of selfishness and liberal antichristic ideology.
The just indignation of the ecclesial body in response to the statements of the President of an Academy founded by John Paul II precisely in order to oppose abortion is accompanied by the applause of the advocates of "reproductive health" and the "interruption of pregnancy," who are always ready to accuse the Church of interference when she speaks with the voice of Christ, but yet offer praise as soon as her worst exponents prostitute themselves to the aligned thought of the world and adopt the dishuman principles of neomalthusianism as their own.
As Shepherd and Successor of the Apostles, I am unable not to condemn with the greatest force Paglia's scandalous words, which contradict the Gospel and the teaching of the Roman Pontiffs.
The New World Order, the United Nations, the WHO, the European Union, the World Economic Forum, the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderberg Club, and all the organizations which follow the Agenda 2030 consider the barbaric killing of the innocent child in the mother's womb as a right, as a "pillar of social life." It is emblematic and revealing that the sect of apostates who infest the Catholic Hierarchy and have occupied its highest levels find themselves aligned with the ideological positions of the enemies of Christ, not only on issues that are seemingly unconnected - like the psychopandemic narrative and green ideology - but also in the denial of the very foundations of the Natural Law, including respect for life from conception to natural death.
Here is a picture of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Vincenzo Paglia, with Pope Francis:

Canadian bishop issues jab mandate for priests, diocesan workers, threatens those who resist
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/another-canadian-bishop-mandates-covid-jab-for-priests/
'Failure to comply with this policy could result in disciplinary action (which includes being placed on an unpaid leave of absence), up to and including termination of employment for just cause,' wrote Bishop Ronald Fabbro.
A Canadian bishop wants all his clergy, employees, and volunteers to get the COVID jab on pain of dismissal.
Bishop Ronald Fabbro of London, Ontario has mandated the abortion-tainted COVID inoculation, publishing statements about the severity of COVID-19 and the abortion-tainted jab in an official vaccination policy, dated October 18, 2021.
"Failure to comply with this policy could result in disciplinary action (which includes being placed on an unpaid leave of absence), up to and including termination of employment for just cause," he wrote.
"Clergy who refuse vaccination will be removed from current duties. If possible, they will be re-assigned by the Bishop at his discretion to roles that do not feature public contact, and their stipend may be adjusted accordingly."
Fabbro did not provide any scientific evidence for his claims in the document, nor did the document cite any biblical or Catholic Church teaching.
The ordinary of the Diocese of London stated: "COVID-19 is a clear and present threat to society. It is not imaginary as some suggest, or a disease only for the elderly, nor is it a trifling illness like the common cold."
However, Fabbro did not provide example of people who have suggested COVID is "imaginary," and he failed to mention that in Canada the vast majority of serious illness associated with COVID has occurred in the elderly. In addition, mainstream public health experts have suggested that COVID will soon join other endemic respiratory illnesses like the common cold and influenza.
The bishop added that diocesan personnel "must operate with the understanding that the vaccinations are both safe and necessary." However, many people have become seriously injured or died following the available COVID jabs, which are in clinical trials for another two years. Even such vaccine proponents as Bill Gates have acknowledged that experimental medical products are poor at reducing transmission, which calls into question why they could be considered "necessary. "
Fabbro stated that all "individuals" and "visitors" working or ministering in the diocese must present proof of full vaccination in order to continue in their role. Individuals include all "bishops, priests, deacons, lay ecclesial ministers, staff (including employees of cemeteries), and volunteers in the Diocese of London." Visitors "include, but are not limited to: service providers, clergy or lay people coming from other dioceses for temporary ministry."
The document presented factors that Bishop Fabbro, a former professor of theology, said were "pertinent" for virological reasons. He believes abortion-tainted vaccines are necessary for those who operate in the diocese because of the proximity of staff and clergy in many diocesan buildings. He reiterated his opinion in the document that "vaccination is simple, safe, and effective."
The bishop acknowledged, but downplayed, vaccine injuries, which have included severe heart issues in young men, by stating: "That there may be side effects for some does not negate the general need for these vaccines..."
Fabbro also cast doubt on social distancing and mask wearing as preventative measures by stating that "masking" or "regular testing" "will not be sufficient" if someone is not vaccinated. Until now all diocesan staff have been required to wear masks when working in proximity with others in a diocesan office, even without a vaccine mandate.
According to the policy, all clergy, staff, and volunteers have "45 days" from the date of the publication of the policy to show proof of vaccination. Failure to comply "could result in disciplinary action (which includes being placed on an unpaid leave of absence), up to and including termination of employment for just cause."
In addition, clergy will be "removed" from their duties if they do not acquiesce to the policy. However, many Catholics, including lay people, priests, and prelates-including Cardinal Raymond Burke and Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigan?-have refused to take one of the currently available COVID injections because cell lines from aborted babies were used in their development or testing. The Catholic Church teaches that abortion is the killing of innocent human being and thus a serious sin. Continue…

In a previous email to Brian H. Greenspan I provided evidence that the Sherman's home was under surveillance by the RCMP. Only the RCMP has jurisdiction (government authority) to conduct a criminal investigation for the Federal government's Office of Commissioner of Lobbying. Direct quote from Administering the Lobbying Act (December 2011) https://lobbycanada.gc.ca/eic/site/012.nsf/eng/h_00436.html:
"The peace officer having jurisdiction to investigate the matter, generally the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in the case of the Lobbying Act, will consider the case in consultation with legal counsel at the Department of Justice and federal prosecutors at the Department of Public Prosecutions. Together, they will determine whether or not to lay charges."
Since the RCMP criminal investigation involved a high profile government of Canada official the RCMP claim that they are authorized to make surreptitious entry (via the Realtor lock box), or simply through trickery or coercion. RCMP officers also claim that they are permitted "to effect such entry by overcoming force a property owner".
3) In eccles v. Bourque, [1975] 2 S.C.R. 739, it was contended that s. 25(1) of the Criminal Code authorized trespass by the police in order to effect an arrest. The basis is that the police (RCMP) are entitled, in limited circumstances, to enter private property without consent to effect an arrest - detain a person.
People detained or arrested by police officers are usually forcibly restrained using handcuffs, either metal or plastic. A traditional form of plastic handcuffs are cable ties. Cable ties leave unique marks on wrists of those being arrested by police (RCMP). Forensic pathologist confirmed that the markings on the wrists of both Shermans, indicates they had been restrained (forcibly detained) with ties before they were murdered. Toronto Police confirmed Barry and Honey Sherman's murderers took the restraints with them. Why would the restraints be removed from the wrists of

Rothschilds Guardians of the Pope
https://geopolitics.co/2015/04/08/the-rothschilds-are-jesuits/
The Jewish Encyclopedia (Vol. 2, p. 497) admits that: "It is a somewhat curious sequel to the attempt to set up a Catholic competitor to the Rothschilds that at the present time (1905) the latter are the guardians of the papal treasure."
Jewish Encyclopedia (published 1901 - 1906), p. 497
[link to www.jewishencyclopedia.com]
"If you are not an American you will
understand why your country is on its present course, as it too is controlled by the Jesuit General through his select Jesuits, Knights of Malta, Shriner Freemasons, the Knights of Columbus, and the Illuminati's Masonic, Cabalistic, Labor Zionist, Sabbatian Frankist (named after the Black Pope's baptized Jacob Frank), Jewish House of Rothschild.

What distinguishes the current structure of Western countries from the past?
The fusion of the worst of liberalism with the worst of collective socialism. Today we see, after two years of the pandemic farce, how globalist liberalism has made use of communist and dictatorial methods to impose itself with its Great Reset, and how the communist regimes are using liberal methods to enrich the upper echelons of the party without losing total control over the population. This demonstrates that the geopolitical balance is shifting towards a multi-polar vision and that bipolarism fueled by the deep state is in decline.
Is there any analogy between what is happening in the Catholic Church under the pontificate of Jorge Mario Bergoglio?
The deep church is an offshoot of the deep state, in a certain sense. For this reason it should not surprise us that we are witnessing the demolition of Faith and Morals in the name of ecumenism and synodality, applying liberal errors in the theological sphere; and on the other hand the transformation of the Papacy and the Roman Curia into a politburo in which ecclesiastical authority is both absolute and also released from its fidelity to the Magisterium, following the modalities of the exercise of power in a communist-type dictatorship. The law is no longer founded on Justice but rather on the convenience and utility of those who apply it: it is enough to see how harshly the clergy and faithful who are traditional are treated by the Vatican, and on the other hand with how much indulgence the Vatican praises notorious pro-abortion activists (I am thinking of Biden and Pelosi among the most striking cases) as well as the propagandists of LGBTQ ideology and gender theory. Here too, liberalism and communism have formed an alliance to demolish the institution from within, just as has happened in the civil sphere. But we know that contra legem fit, quod in fraudem legis fit - that which circumvents the law is done against the law.
Your Excellency, how do you think things in the United States can change in the near future?

Autumn is here with the start of Westminster City Council's leaf clearing plan.
In eccleston Square, Pimlico, work has been underway clearing up fallen leaves to ensure that our pavements are safe for pedestrians. It's a problem each year that the Council is well accustomed to dealing with.
Cllr Jacqui Wilkinson explains: "This vital work will continue throughout Westminster for the next four to six weeks during which time about 1,000 tonnes of leaves from our streets will be collected in addition to the usual levels of litter."

'Jews' series of Historical Archives of Secretariat of State published online
Dated:23th of June 2022
At the request of Pope Francis, the virtual reproduction of a collection preserving the requests for help addressed to Pope Pius XII by Jews from all over Europe after the beginning of Nazi-Fascist persecution is now accessible to all. It consists of a total of170 volumes, or nearly 40,000 files. Only 70% of the total material will be initially available, but will later be supplemented with the final volumes currently being prepared.
...
We thus learn that he was released from the Miranda camp the year after his appeal in a letter to the Pope, and that in 1945, he was finally able to join his mother in the United States. There, he continued his studies at University of California, Berkeley, MIT and University of Colorado. He then worked as a chemist in California. Thanks to ever more rich online resources, this time we can draw a breath of relief.
The documents
A special documentary heritage that distinguishes itself from other archival series, already from the name assigned to it: "Ebrei" (Jews). A heritage that is precious because it gathers the requests for help sent to Pope Pius XII by Jewish people, both the baptized and the non-baptized, after the beginning of Nazi and fascist persecution. A heritage which, at the request of Pope Francis, is now easily accessible to the entire world thanks to a project aimed at publishing the complete digitalized version of the archival series.
It is the "Ebrei" series of the Historical Archive of the Secretariat of State - Section for Relations with States and International Organizations (ASRS). The series of 170 volumes in total are part of the Extraordinary ecclesiastical Affairs Collection (AA.EE.SS.) related to the Pontificate of Pius XII - Part 1 (1939-1948), and already available for consultation since 2 March 2020, in the Reading Room of the Historical Archive, by worldwide scholars.
The then Sacred Congregation for the Extraordinary ecclesiastical Affairs (from which the archival Collection gets its name), equivalent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, charged a diplomatic minutante (Msgr Angelo Dell'Acqua) to manage the requests for help that were addressed to the Pope from all over Europe, with the aim of providing all the help possible.
Requests could be made to obtain visas or passports to expatriate, find asylum, reunify families, obtain liberation from detention and transfers from one concentration camp to another, receive news regarding deported people, supplies of food or clothing, financial support, spiritual support and much more.

requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act … also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.
Sin committed through malice, by deliberate choice of evil, is the gravest.
There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.

So this happened …… https://fromrome.info/2020/06/19/pope-benedict-xvi-has-been-exiled/
BREAKING: It has been confirmed by multiple sources that Pope Benedict XVI has been driven from the Vatican and placed under conditions which appear to be imprisonment and exile.*
The German press has been told that Pope Benedict will not be allowed to give interviews in written or video format.
The Bild has confirmed, not only that the Pope has no plans to return immediately to the Vatican, but has announced that he will NOT return to the Vatican again.
The presence of the Vice Commandant of the Vatican Police, at his side, is thus clearly to control the situation.
And this is a interesting read …
https://www.cfnews.org.uk/the-strange-case-of-bxvis-renunciation-a-new-explanation/
For the past few days there has been discussion on the internet about the critique made of Benedict XVI's resignation from the papacy by an Italian-American Franciscan Latinist who is an expert in Scholastic texts and in canonical argumentation about the papal resignation. Brother Alexis Bugnolo, who has translated over 9000 pages of Saint Bonaventure from the original Latin and has a mastery of the Church's language as few others, was interviewed on YouTube by Decimo Toro.
Through an attentive reading of the text of Benedict XVI's Declaratio of resignation, following a thread of logic, canon law, and the meaning of the original Latin, Brother Bugnolo maintains that the text was written by Benedict, with extreme skill and subtlety, intending that it would eventually be discovered to be invalid. By so doing, Ratzinger permitted the "Saint Gallen Mafia," the Masonic-progressive ecclesiastical lobby that forced him to abdicate, to take power hastily and so reveal itself. Benedict resigned in such a way that all of the acts, appointments, and changes in doctrine done by the "false church" can eventually be swept away in one fell swoop precisely because of the invalidity of his resignation from the papacy.

Jesuits Founder was a crypto?Jew: St. Ignatious of Loyola
The JESUIT ORDER As A SYNAGOGUE OF JEWS
Ignatius Loyola himself was a crypto?Jew of the Occult Cabala.
A crypto?Jew is a Jew who converts to another religion and outwardly embraces the new religion, while secretly maintaining Jewish practices.
As John Torell explains: "In 1491 San Ignacio de Loyola was born in the Basque province of Guipuzcoa, Spain. His parents were Marrano Jews and at the time of his birth the family was very wealthy. As a young man he became a member of the Jewish Illuminati order in Spain.
As a cover for his crypto Jewish activities,he became very active as a Roman Catholic. On May 20, 1521 Ignatius (as he was now called) was wounded in a battle, and became a semi?cripple. Unable to succeed in the military and political arena, he started a quest for holiness and eventually ended up in Paris where he studied for the priesthood.
In 1539 he had moved to Rome where he founded the "JESUIT ORDER," which was to become the most vile, bloody and persecuting order in the Roman Catholic Church.
In 1540, the current Pope Paul III approved the order. At Loyola's death in 1556 there were more than 1000 members in the Jesuit order, located in a number of nations."
Ignatius of Loyola's secretary, Polanco, was of Jewish descent and was the only person present at Loyola's deathbed.'''
James Lainez, who succeeded Loyola as the second Jesuit General, was also of Jewish descent. Jews were attracted to the Jesuit order and joined in large numbers.
Lacunza was no exception. He was a Jew, which explains why he introduced the Eschatological teaching of a return to the Jewish animal sacrifices during the Millennium.
(In a book titled The Coming of the Messiah in Glory and Majesty published in 1812, 11 years after the death of its author, Jesuit Emanuel de Lacunza who, wrote under the fictitious pen name of a purportedly converted Jew, Rabbi Juan Josaphat Ben Ezra, in order to conceal his identity and to make his writings more palatable to the Protestant readers. He promoted the writings of sixteenth century Jesuit priest Francisco Ribera, developing a futuristic perspective which restricted the prophetic fulfillments in the book of Revelation to the end of the world).
Lacunza also wrote that during a millennium after the tribulation the Jewish animal sacrifices would be reinstated along with the Eucharist (the mass) of the Catholic Church.
Lacunza has followed after Jewish fables and replaced the commandments of God with the commandments of men. That doctrine gives the Jews primacy in God's plan and relegates Christians to a prophetic parenthetical to be supplanted by the Jews during the thousand year earthly reign of Christ.

"I'll first ask you to consider the primary message of ecclesiastes. That message is: everything is meaningless, but having knowledge and wealth will make life sweeter."
ecclesiastes 1 (KJV)
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
ecclesiastes 12 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Proverbs 11 (KJV)
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
Matthew 16 (KJV)
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Romans 6 (KJV)
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Matthew 7 (KJV)
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Revelation 22 (KJV)
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Revelation 13 (KJV)
10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
John 16 (KJV)
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
John 18 (KJV)
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Romans 12 (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Matthew 23 (KJV)
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
Romans 1 (KJV)
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Hebrews 9 (KJV)
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
John 14 (KJV)
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
…..
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Matthew 22 (KJV)
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Consider all the people in the world. Many are good, others are evil.
Is it not possible that aliens/spirits/any so-called "non-human beings" follow a similar pattern? Some may seek to help us, while others may only seek to help themselves.
You get at some interesting points. I'll share with you some perspectives which I recall from The Ra Contact. However, I'll first ask you to consider the primary message of ecclesiastes. That message is: everything is meaningless, but having knowledge and wealth will make life sweeter.
I mention ecclesiastes because even the Bible admits, to an extent, that nothing truly matters. Social norms? Meaningless. Helping others? Meaningless. Destruction? Meaningless. There is a proper time for everything. We should also remember, though, that ecclesiastes also states some paths of life lead to better results. This is important to consider: you are responsible for assigning meaning to your life.
Assigning meaning is as simple as saying you wish to live a life of your own choosing. Killing and rape would violate this tenet, so we should avoid doing so as much as possible (though we admit that killing is permissible if authority is granted by government via the military or potentially as a demonstration of justice).
>If you believe there is no such thing as sin, then you have no ground to accuse people who rape and eat children.
Sin exists as that which is improper for the circumstances. I cannot fathom times when certain actions (rape, senseless killing) become generally permissible, so these are more pure sins.
>If you believe you can fix yourself, then you believe that the imperfect can make itself perfect - that a non God can make itself God.
We can only fix ourselves to the extent that we have catalyst to do so. God gives us catalyst in the form of hardships, and we should be thankful for those events.
>If you believe in salvation through someone other than Jesus, then you are rejecting the divine morality of the God of Israel.
Worshiping Jesus does not directly lead us to a God-pleasing life. We must instead choose to live as Jesus told us. To do so is to accept his divinity.
>If you reject the divine morality of the God of Israel, then you are rejecting love as the primary commandment - love of God and love of your neighbour - and you are rejecting the idea of sacrifice and service to others as the expression of love.
Indeed, "love your neighbor as yourself" is the greatest idea of all.

And what do you advise, Your Excellency, to get out of this dead end?
Respect for authority is connatural to civilized man, but it is necessary to distinguish between obedience and servility. You see, every virtue consists of the just mean between two opposite vices, without being a compromise, but also as the peak between two valleys, so to speak. Disobedience sins by falling short, not wanting to submit to a good order of a legitimate authority; servility on the other hand sins by excess, submitting to unfair orders or orders given by an illegitimate authority. The good citizen should know how to disobey civil authority, and the good Catholic how to do the same with ecclesiastical authority, disobeying whenever the authority demands obedience to an iniquitous order.
Doesn't such talk seem to be a bit revolutionary, Your Excellency?
Far from it. The anarchists and courtiers both have a distorted concept of authority: the former deny it while the latter idolize it. The just mean is the only morally viable way, because it responds to the order that the Lord has imprinted on the world and that respect the celestial hierarchy. We owe obedience to legitimate authority in the measure in which its power is exercised for the purposes for which authority has been established by God: the temporal good of citizens in the case of the State and the spiritual good of the faithful in the case of the Church. An authority that imposes evil on its subjects is for that very reason illegitimate and its orders are null. Let's not forget that the true Lord from whom all authority comes is God, and that the earthly authority - civil as well as spiritual - is always vicarious, that is, it is subject to the authority of Jesus Christ, King and High Priest. Setting up the vicarious authority of rulers in the place of the royal authority of the Lord is a mad gesture and - yes - revolutionary and rebellious.
What does the elite want to obtain? It promises us peace, security, prosperity, and work, but there are more than fifty armed conflicts currently taking place in the world; our cities are unlivable, full of criminals, immersed in decay and dominated by minorities of deviant people.
This is the third indisputable element that should not be overlooked: the pandemic was planned as an instrument for the establishment of a totalitarian regime, conceived by unelected technocrats who are devoid of any sense of democratic representation.

From BIBLICAL RUSSIA (http://chronologia.org/seven6_1/index.html). Chapter 7, section 21 (http://chronologia.org/seven6_1/bibrus07_21.html):
>21. THE END OF THE OTHRIANS AND THE DISCHARGE OF THE ZAKHARYAINS IN THE XVI CENTURY. WHY THE ROMANIANS DISTORTED THE RUSSIAN HISTORY IN THE XVII CENTURY.
>It is known that the oprichnina, during which the terror of Purim was launched, ends with the famous Moscow defeat of 1572. At this time, the very oprichnina is being trashed. As the documents show, it was, in fact, the defeat of the clan Zakharyins. From which, later - and soon - the Romanovs will come out. During the Moscow case, numerous Zakharyins were executed or expelled: the boyar Yakovlev-ZAKHARYIN, relatives of the deceased boyar Yuriev-ZAKHARYIN, the boyar Chiron-ZAKHARYIN. Please note that the word ZAKHARIN is a kind of prefix for various surnames. But then, in the light of what we already know, the question arises. Are not these ZAHARJINS the very SHIRE students, the disciples of Sharii? That is, Judaicans, defeated allegedly in the years 1499-1504, with repentant Ivan III the Terrible. After all, ZAKHARY and CHARIA (Heb. ZHRIH or ZKRIKH) are the same name! Slightly differently spoken. Our guess is indirectly confirmed by the following bright bar. It turns out that in the 16th century, Tsar Ivan IV the Terrible, ordering the killing of the relatives of the deceased Yuryev-Zakharyin, "DID NOT ALLOW TO BURY THEIR BODY UNDER THE CHRISTIAN CUSTOM" [776], p. What's the matter? After all, the Orthodox Tsar is obliged to bury in a Christian manner any Orthodox. Even if his worst enemy. And here - an unexpected ban!
>Before us is a bright sign of religious unrest. The behavior of the king becomes clear if the pastors were ERECTORS. The Orthodox Tsar could not bury the heretics in a Christian manner. But it brings even closer the Zakharyins of the XVI century and the Sharievtsy = Jews of the XV century. Moreover, the Zakharyins' defeat comes at the very end of the oprichnina. That fully corresponds to the history of the Judaizers under Ivan III the Terrible, ostensibly in the XV century. In both cases: the seizure of power by relatives or co-religionists of the wife, ten years of celebration, then defeat, which has the character of a struggle against religious heresy.
>Our conclusion is as follows. The future Romanovs left the clan of heretics Zakharyin-Sharievtsev. His reflection, deliberately relegated to 70-80 years down, in the XV century, is the well-known secret society of the Judaizers in Russia. The idea of ??such a shift of the heresy of the Jew in the past is understandable. The Romanovs cleaned out of Russian history both the traces of their participation in the oprichnich terror, and their direct connection with the official cursed heresy of the fluid. The memory of heresy has remained until now. The ecclesiastical anathema of the Judaizers also remained in force, at least until the 18th century [690], p.17. But to the Romanovs and to the Zakharins it was allegedly not applicable. Because in the "Romanov history textbook" written by them themselves, the heresy of the Judaizers and the Zakharyins divides the 70- or 80-year gap artificially created by them. And, the main motive was an attempt to hide participation in heresy, and not in terror. Participation in terror in itself would not cause doubts in their power. After all, you can always say: our good ancestors smashed bad people, enemies. But participation in the official cursed religious heresy is a much more dangerous accusation for the new dynasty.
I would too recommend to read DEVELOPMENT OF AMERICA BY RUSSIA-HORDE http://chronologia.org/seven6_2/index.html

from wikipedia (note the supernatural birth) - part 2
From the 420s onwards, headed by a certain Chlodio, a group of Franks pushed through the boundary of the Roman inhabited Silva Carbonaria and expanded their territory to the Somme in northern France. Franks then ruled that area which included the Belgian city of Tournai, and the French city of Cambrai. Chlodio is never referred to as Salian, only Frankish, and his origins unclear. He is said by Gregory of Tours (II.9) to have launched his attack on Tournai through the Carbonaria Silva from a fort named Dispargum, which was in "Thoringia". The most common interpretations of these names are neither in Salian Batavia nor in Toxandria.
In 451, Chlodio's opponent Flavius Aëtius, de facto ruler of the Western Roman Empire, called upon his Germanic allies on Roman soil to help fight off an invasion by Attila's Huns. Franks answered the call and fought in the battle of the Catalaunian Fields in a temporary alliance with Romans and Visigoths, which de facto ended the Hunnic threat to Western Europe.
The Notitia dignitatum listing Roman military units in the 5th century mentions the Salii iuniores Gallicani based in Hispania, the Salii seniores based in Gaul. There is also record of a numerus Saliorum.[17]
While their relationship to Chlodio is uncertain, Childeric I and his son Clovis I, who gained control over Roman Gaul were said to be related, and the legal code they published for the Romance speaking country between the Loire and the Silva Carbonaria, a region the Franks later called Neustria, was called the Salic law.[18] Their dynasty, the Merovingians, were named after Childeric's father Merovech, whose birth was associated with supernatural elements.[19] Childeric and Clovis, were described as Kings of the Franks, and rulers of the Roman province of Belgica Secunda. Clovis became the absolute ruler of a Germanic kingdom of mixed Galloroman-Germanic population in 486. He consolidated his rule with victories over the Gallo-Romans and all the other Frankish tribes and established his capital in Paris. After he had beaten the Visigoths and the Alemanni, his sons drove the Visigoths to Spain and subdued the Burgundians, Alemanni and Thuringians. However, after 250 years of this dynasty, marked by internecine struggles, a gradual decline occurred. The position in society of the Merovingians was taken over by Carolingians, who came from a northern area around the river Maas in what is now Belgium and southern Netherlands.
In Gaul, a fusion of Roman and Germanic societies was occurring. During the period of Merovingian rule, the Franks began to adopt Christianity following the baptism of Clovis I in 496, an event that inaugurated the alliance between the Frankish kingdom and the Roman Catholic Church. Unlike their Gothic, Burgundic and Lombardic counterparts, who adopted Arianism, the Salians adopted Catholic Christianity early on; giving them a relationship with the ecclesiastical hierarchy, and their subjects in conquered territories.
The division of the Frankish kingdom among Clovis's four sons (511) was an event which would repeat in Frankish history over more than four centuries. By then, the Salic Law had established the exclusive right to succession of male descendants. However, this principle turned out to be an exercise in interpretation, rather than the simple implementation of a new model of succession. No trace of an established practice of territorial division can in fact be discovered among Germanic peoples other than the Franks.

Q-Posts ANSWERS (1)
- Question: [1] June 7, 2020 Holy Trinity Sunday Mr. President, In recent months we have been witnessing the formation of two opposing sides that I would call Biblical: the children of light and the children of darkness. The children of light constitute the most conspicuous part of humanity, while the children of darkness represent an absolute minority. And yet the former are the object of a sort of discrimination which places them in a situation of moral inferiority with respect to their adversaries, who often hold strategic positions in government, in politics, in the economy and in the media. In an apparently inexplicable way, the good are held hostage by the wicked and by those who help them either out of self-interest or fearfulness. These two sides, which have a Biblical nature, follow the clear separation between the offspring of the Woman and the offspring of the Serpent. On the one hand, there are those who, although they have a thousand defects and weaknesses, are motivated by the desire to do good, to be honest, to raise a family, to engage in work, to give prosperity to their homeland, to help the needy, and, in obedience to the Law of God, to merit the Kingdom of Heaven. On the other hand, there are those who serve themselves, who do not hold any moral principles, who want to demolish the family and the nation, exploit workers to make themselves unduly wealthy, foment internal divisions and wars, and accumulate power and money: for them the fallacious illusion of temporal well-being will one day – if they do not repent – yield to the terrible fate that awaits them, far from God, in eternal damnation. We will also discover that the riots in these days were provoked by those who, seeing that the virus is inevitably fading and that the social alarm of the pandemic is waning, necessarily have had to provoke civil disturbances, because they would be followed by repression which, although legitimate, could be condemned as an unjustified aggression against the population. The same thing is also happening in Europe, in perfect synchrony. It is quite clear that the use of street protests is instrumental to the purposes of those who would like to see someone elected in the upcoming presidential elections who embodies the goals of the deep state and who expresses those goals faithfully and with conviction. It will not be surprising if, in a few months, we learn once again that hidden behind these acts of vandalism and violence there are those who hope to profit from the dissolution of the social order so as to build a world without freedom: Solve et Coagula, as the Masonic adage teaches. Although it may seem disconcerting, the opposing alignments I have described are also found in religious circles. There are faithful Shepherds who care for the flock of Christ, but there are also mercenary infidels who seek to scatter the flock and hand the sheep over to be devoured by ravenous wolves. It is not surprising that these mercenaries are allies of the children of darkness and hate the children of light: just as there is a deep state, there is also a deep church that betrays its duties and forswears its proper commitments before God. Thus the Invisible Enemy, whom good rulers fight against in public affairs, is also fought against by good shepherds in the ecclesiastical sphere. It is a spiritual battle, which I spoke about in my recent Appeal which was published on May 8.In society, Mr. President, these two opposing realities co-exist as eternal enemies, just as God and Satan are eternal enemies. And it appears that the children of darkness – whom we may easily identify with the deep state which you wisely oppose and which is fiercely waging war against you in these days – have decided to show their cards, so to speak, by now revealing their plans. They seem to be so certain of already having everything under control that they have laid aside that circumspection that until now had at least partially concealed their true intentions. The investigations already under way will reveal the true responsibility of those who managed the COVID emergency not only in the area of health care but also in politics, the economy, and the media. We will probably find that in this colossal operation of social engineering there are people who have decided the fate of humanity, arrogating to themselves the right to act against the will of citizens and their representatives in the governments of nations. __
