State Department Acting IG Abruptly Resigns Months After Previous Deep State IG Steve Linick Was Fired
The State Department's Acting Inspector General Stephen Akard abruptly resigned on Wednesday just months after the previous IG was fired.
In May President Trump fired State Department IG Steve Linick, a Deep State hack and Obama holdover who worked with Democrats during the sham impeachment.
Acting IG Stephen Akard took over Linick's investigation into accusations about arms deals against Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Akard resigned on Wednesday.
AFP reported:
The internal watchdog looking into accusations about arms deals against US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo abruptly quit Wednesday, just months after his predecessor was fired.
Stephen Akard -the State Department's acting inspector general - is a longtime aide to Vice President Mike Pence and his installation in May had widely been seen as a way to keep a friendly figure in the role.
"He left to go back home. This happens. I don't have anything more to add to that," Pompeo told reporters, declining further comment.
A State Department spokesperson said Akard was "returning to the private sector after years of public service," adding: "We appreciate his dedication to the department and to our country."

Trump fires State Department watchdog who played minor role in impeachment
President Trump late Friday dismissed State Department Inspector General Steve A. Linick, who played a minor role in last year's impeachment drama and was sharply critical of Hillary Clinton's email scandal.
The president's decision was transmitted in a letter to congressional leaders saying he no longer had the "fullest confidence" in Linick, who has served as the State Department's chief watchdog since he was appointed by President Obama in 2013.
Over the last few weeks, Trump has fired a handful of federal agency watchdogs as he seeks to reshape the inspector general community with his own appointees.
Officials said Ambassador Stephen Akard, a career diplomat who currently heads the State Department's Office of Foreign Missions, has been named to replace Linick.
Linick drew brief headlines last October when he provided to Congress a folder of documents that Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal lawyer, had given the department alleging possible wrongdoing in Ukraine. The episode was one of many cited by Democrats as they pursued impeachment against Trump.
Democrats have howled about several of Trump's decisions to replace holdover Obama appointees in recent months. And Friday night was no different.
"Shameful. Another late Friday night attack on independence, accountability, and career officials. At this point, the President's paralyzing fear of any oversight is undeniable," Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., tweeted.

US Foreign Relations Committee Starts Probe Into Trump's Firing of State Dep't Inspector General
According to Politico, US President Donald Trump fired Steve Linick in a letter sent to Congress late on 15 May, saying he no longer had "fullest confidence" in the high-ranking official, who had been heading the oversight office of Washington's diplomatic arm since his appointment in 2013 by President Barack Obama.
The US House Foreign Relations Committee has launched a probe into Trump's firing of the State Department inspector general, a statement from the panel said. The House Panel and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Democrats have asked the Trump administration to submit records related to the State Department inspector general's firing by 22 May, according to the statement.
Earlier today, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi took aim at President Donald Trump for his dismissal of State Department Inspector General Steve Linick, calling the move a part of a "dangerous pattern of retaliation".
Linick's firing, which has turned out to be the latest in a series of oversight removals by Trump, is considered as an attempt to suspend an investigation into Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for allegedly using department aides for personal tasks, Politico reported.
According to the news outlet, Congressman Eliot L. Engel, who chairs the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, called Linick's dismissal an "outrageous act of a president trying to protect one of his most loyal supporters, the secretary of State, from accountability".
As acting head of the inspector general's office, Trump proposed Stephen Akard, who currently heads the Office of Foreign Relations and was part of the Indiana governor's administration under current Vice President Mike Pence.

Trump Removes State Department Inspector General Steve Linick
President Trump is ousting State Department Inspector General, Steve Linick, extending a string of administration firings of government watchdogs.
The president sent notice of Linick's removal, effective in 30 days, to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday. A State Department spokesperson offered no reason for the change, but issued a statement confirming that Linick will be replaced by Ambassador Stephen Akard, who currently directs the department's Office of Foreign Missions.
Pelosi warned of a "dangerous pattern of retaliation against patriotic public servants."
Linick had been on the job since 2013 and had recently issued reports criticizing some Trump appointees of retaliating against career public servants. Democrats expressed outrage at his firing. The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., accused President Trump of taking the action to protect Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"I have learned that the Office of the Inspector General had opened an investigation into Secretary Pompeo," Engel said. "Mr. Linick's firing amid such a probe strongly suggests that this is an unlawful act of retaliation."
Engel did not offer further detail, but promised to press the State Department for answers.
A Democratic aide on Capitol Hill elaborated that "the OIG was looking into the Secretary's misuse of a political appointee at the Department to perform personal tasks for himself and Mrs. Pompeo."
In recent weeks, the president also removed Michael Atkinson as inspector general of the Intelligence Community, as well as Glenn Fine, who had been named to oversee the federal government's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Good morning did anons see this yet?
Another Obama hold-over bites the dust.
State Department inspector general who faulted Trump administration moves is fired by Pompeo
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo provided no reason for Steve Linick's removal from his job, in which he had served since 2013, according to a senior department official
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has fired the State Department's inspector general, an Obama administration appointee whose office was critical of alleged political bias in the department's management. The ouster is the latest in a series of moves against independent executive-branch watchdogs who have found fault with the Trump administration.
A senior department official said Pompeo removed Steve Linick from his job Friday but gave no reason for his removal. Linick had served in the job since 2013. Linick's office had issued several reports critical of the department's handling of personnel matters, including accusing some of President Donald Trump's appointees of retaliating against career officials.
Linick will replaced by Stephen Akard, a former career foreign-service officer who has close ties to Vice President Mike Pence, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. Akard currently runs the department's Office of Foreign Missions. He had been nominated to be the director general of the foreign service but withdrew after objections he wasn't experienced enough.
Linick, a former assistant U.S. attorney in California and Virginia, had overseen inspector-general reports that were highly critical of the department's management policies during the Trump administration. His office had criticized several Trump appointees for their treatment of career staff for apparently being insufficiently supportive of Trump and his policies.
Under Linick, the State Department's inspector general office was also critical of former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's hiring freeze and attempts to streamline the agency by slashing its funding and personnel.
Trump has been taking aim lately at inspectors general. In several instances this year, news of their firings or demotions has broken late on Fridays.
In April, he fired Michael Atkinson, the inspector general for the intelligence community, for his role in the whistleblower complaint that led to Trump's impeachment.
Then Trump removed Glenn Fine as acting inspector general at the Defense Department, a move that stripped him of his post as chairman of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee.
During a White House briefing on COVID-19, Trump questioned the independence of an inspector general of the Department of Health and Human Services over a report that said there was a shortage of supplies and testing at hospitals.

Pompeo Fires Deep State IG Steve Linick an Obama Holdover Who Worked with Democrats During Sham Impeachment
State Department Inspector General and Deep State hack Steve Linick was fired on Friday night.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo fired the anti-Trump Obama holdover.
Linick served as State Department IG since 2013
Linick played a role in the faux impeachment of President Trump over Ukraine.
Linick requested an urgent meeting with Congressional Democrat staffers. During the meeting Linick handed over documents related to the Trump administration and Ukraine.
The entire impeachment was a scam to divert attention away from the Biden Crime Family and Hunter Biden's pay-for-play with Burisma Holdings.
Linick was an anti-Trump hack who should have been removed months ago.
CNBC reported:
His office had issued several reports critical of the department's handling of personnel matters, including accusing some of President Donald Trump's appointees of retaliating against career officials.
Linick will replaced by Stephen Akard, a former career foreign service officer who has close ties to Vice President Mike Pence, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. State Department watchdog ousted Inspector general Steve Linick is to be replaced by Amb. Stephen Akard.
State Department Inspector General Steve Linick has been fired, according to a senior administration official and a congressional aide.
Linick, a Justice Department veteran appointed to the role in 2013 by then President Barack Obama, is the latest of a slew of inspectors general to be ousted in recent months.
He played a minor role in the House of Representatives' impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, ferrying a trove of documents to lawmakers that had been provided to the State Department by Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal lawyer.
A State Department spokesperson said that Amb. Stephen Akard, a former career Foreign Service officer, "will now lead the Office of the Inspector General at the State Department," noting that Akard was previously confirmed by the Senate as head of the department's Office of Foreign Missions.
