Q Research General #25261: Biden Peddled Influence 'PeachMint' Edition
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander has drawn outrage for claiming that giving each of the tens of thousands of migrants pouring into the Big Apple free legal representation could net billions in economic benefits for New York state.
Lander's office said in a report that coughing up individual lawyers to rep migrants could prevent roughly 53,000 asylum seekers from being deported across the Empire State - resulting in an estimated net benefit of $8.4 billion for local, state and federal governments.
"Access to work authorization leads to higher wages. The higher earning power generates more tax revenue. Higher personal income also benefits the economy through increased consumer spending," the report said.
"Additionally, gaining lawful status also opens the door to more immigrants opening bank accounts, buying homes, and starting businesses, which all help grow the economy."
The report - which fails to lay out how much it would cost to cover the legal fees - comes as the city is grappling with how to foot the bill for sheltering the roughly 180,000 migrants who have arrived since the crisis erupted in spring 2022.
Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly stressed that the relentless influx of migrants is forecast to set the city back $10 million over the next few years.
The notion of forking over even more money to provide legal counsel for migrants was quickly ripped by critics.
"Every couple of weeks, there's another politician telling us that the migrant crisis is giving us some newfound, economic benefit - and yet all we seem to keep doing is using taxpayer money to pay for services," City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) told The Post on Wednesday.
"Both of those things can't be true."
City Councilman Robert Holden (D-Queens) also chimed in: "No amount of gaslighting by the king panderer Brad Lander can change the undeniable fact that unfettered migration across the border is detrimental to our city."
"Half of New Yorkers are looking for the exit door because of what's going on. We need to reverse that," he added, citing a new report from the Citizens Budget Commission that found 50% of all New Yorkers plan to stay in the city over the next five years.

NYC to pay over $1 billion in hotel costs for migrants
New York City is bracing for the impact of the continuing illegal immigrant crisis, with an extended contract deal with local hotels to house migrants over the next three years at a significant cost of over $1 billion.
According to The New York Post, the revised contract, with a value of approximately $1.365 billion, is set to cover the rental charges for over 100 hotels repurposed into emergency shelters for migrants over the next three years. The new cost is about five times the cost of the city's original hotel contract for housing migrants.
The $1.365 billion contract also does not cover expenses associated with city facilities or other sites accommodating the steady influx of homeless illegal immigrants in New York City.
The city's move is under scrutiny, with claims of fiscal recklessness being voiced from both Republicans and Democrats, raising questions about the best path forward for New York City.
Nicole Gelinas, Senior Fellow at The Manhattan Institute, expressed concerns over the long-term extension, suggesting it might give an impression of a lack of intent to decrease the migrant populace.
"The city created one big monopoly," Gelinas argued, pointing out the absence of competitive bids, which might have resulted in cost savings.
Democrat Queens Councilman Robert Holden stated, "The migrant crisis has evolved into a financial boondoggle, with quietly extended contracts fattening the pockets of a few at the taxpayer's expense. It's time to halt this fiscal recklessness."
Holden also called into question NYC's "Right to Shelter" law, which ensures shelter to the homeless, including self-described asylum seekers. The Democrat councilman warned that the "Right to Shelter" law should not be "misconstrued as a global entitlement."

A New York City Democrat councilman has just flipped on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to blow the whistle on the George Soros-funded anti-Trump prosecutor.
Councilman Robert Holden will testify at Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) House Judiciary Committee hearing regarding Bragg's get-Trump case.
Bragg is accused of ignoring the soaring violent crime in his district while he focuses on his politically motivated case against President Donald Trump.
Holden, who has served as the representative for the 30th district since 2018, is prepared to testify that the crime rate in New York City has increased "because of Bragg."
He said: "When Bragg came in, he issued that ridiculous edict that he was not going to prosecute smaller crimes.
"What do we have in New York City?
"We have lawlessness on the streets.
"I have never seen the lawlessness we are seeing now.
"Under his policy, petty theft, even resisting arrest, prostitution, public urination will not be prosecuted.
"This is a DA saying to that to the public," Holden noted.
"It is just stupid. It's just dumb.
"We have a bad combination in New York.
"There were 17 straight years of downward crime in New York City until that 2019 bail reform law."
He said that, because of the new law, members of the NYPD "don't want to engage" with suspects.
"Even if they do engage, they're going to get district attorneys like Bragg who are going to say, 'We're not prosecuting,'" he said.
"I credit Rudy Giuliani as the mayor who saved New York.
"I lived through that. They don't like to hear it. But I lived through it."

Dem councilman will testify Bragg is to blame for NYC 'lawlessness' at House Judiciary hearing
Councilman Robert Holden says he has 'never seen the lawlessness we are seeing now'
April 14, 2023 4:06pm EDT
A Democratic New York City councilman plans to testify Monday that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has contributed to the "lawlessness" on city streets in a field hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee.
New York City Councilman Robert Holden, who has represented New York City's 30th district since 2018, told Fox News Digital he is a Democrat but also a life-long New Yorker who has had his "issues" with Bragg since he took over as DA in 2022. Holden told Fox News Digital thecrime wave in New York City is on the rise "because of Bragg."
"When Bragg came in, he issued that ridiculous edict that he was not going to prosecute smaller crimes," Holden said. "What do we have in New York City? We have lawlessness on the streets.
"I have never seen the lawlessness we are seeing now," he added. Bragg took over as district attorney in January 2022 from Cyrus Vance.
Holden will testify as part of the House Judiciary Committee's field hearing in New York City to "examine how Bragg's pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents." The hearing is set for 9 a.m. Monday at the Javits Federal Building.
Holden told Fox News Digital Bragg's "day one memo raised alarm bells throughout the city." Bragg released a memo on his third day in office ordering prosecutors not to seek prison sentences for a slew of crimes and to downgrade charges, including for robberies and commercial burglaries. The DA also said he would no longer prosecute many crimes, including some trespass offenses, resisting arrest and fare evasion.
"Under his policy, petty theft, even resisting arrest, prostitution, public urination will not be prosecuted," Holden said. "This is a DA saying to that to the public. "It is just stupid," he added. "It's just dumb."
Holden also blasted New York state's 2019 bail reform law. "We have a bad combination in New York," he said. "There were17 straight years of downward crimein New York City until that2019 bail reform law."
As a result of these changes, Holden said, New York City police officers "don't want to engage." "Even if they do engage, they're going to get district attorneys like Bragg who are going to say, 'We're not prosecuting,'" he said.
"I credit Rudy Giuliani as the mayor who saved New York," Holden said of the former Republican mayor. "I lived through that. They don't like to hear it. But I lived through it."
Holden described himself as one of two moderate Democrats on the New York City Council and slammed his Democraticcolleagues as "socialists.""We lived through the Cold War, and socialism did not work and still doesn't work," he said.
Holden told Fox News Digital he is often told to change party affiliation but said he has resisted that so far. "They say, 'You should change parties,' but I say, 'Why?" I can offer a voice of reason in the Democrat caucus," he said. "Most of the Democrats in New York City do not agree with their elected officials.
"I am not into this political game at all. This is to serve my constituents and to serve my neighborhoods."...

NYC school safety staff plummets 25% even as violence, shootings skyrocket
Tina Moore,
The number of New York City school safety agents has plummeted nearly 25% from pre-pandemic levels - all while violence at or near school buildings is exploding, according to a report released Tuesday. As of last month, there were 3,900 active NYPD school safety agents, nearly 1,200 -or 24% - fewer than in February 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city's Independent Budget Office found.
The IBO's report came astwo teenage boys were shot and injuredwithin three hours of each other near their respective high schools in Upper Manhattan on Tuesday.
Three studentshave been slain so far in the 2022-23 school year, and at least20have been either stabbed or shot, The Post reported last month.
"We warned the city two years ago. Only more school safety agents can protect our city and our schools," said Hank Sheinkopf, spokesman for Teamster Local 237, the union which represents school safety agents. "How many more young people will be shot, or stabbed before politicians understand what so many New York City mothers know: we need more school safety agents."
Sheinkopf said the force stood 5,500 strong in 2019 but that, "We're now at 4,000 on a good day." School safety agents are civilians who don't carry weapons but are employed by the NYPD.
Under a 2019 agreement between the cityDepartment of Education and the NYPD, SSAs employ a more restrained approach, such as not intervening in most low-level misconduct by students, using alternative responses to issuing arrests or summonses and employing the minimal amount of physical restraints necessary.
But there's been a political tug-of-war in recent years over their presence in schools. During Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration, there was a push to remove the NYPD from employing and assigning safety agents.
Lefty progressives argued that schools were being over-policed and that the responsibility should fall under the DOE. Mayor Eric Adams, however, decided that school safety and staffing should remain in the hands of NYPD.
Still, a total of 832 vacant school safety positions were scrapped over the past year, the IBO report said. Sheinkopf said the City Council also canceled two 250-person classes of school safety agents.
"The decision to eliminate nearly 300 vacant school safety agent positions, bringing thetotal cut to over 800since last February, is a terrible idea, especially in light of recent incidents at our schools, and that many of my schools only have one agent," said Queens Councilman Robert Holden, a member of the public safety committee.
"While budget constraints are understandable, reducing the number of agents and compromising the safety of our children is not the solution," added Holden. Last month, the NYPD beefed up the number of its separate youth coordination officer units at schools in light of an increase in shootings.
The first cut of vacant SSA positions came in the mayor's preliminary Budget in February 2022, when 550 open slots were scrapped, saving between $35 million and $37 million per year, and bringing the school safety staffing budget for fiscal year 2023 down to $389 million. (Money is more important than childrens lives)
Next, Adams's November 2022 budget slashed another $24 million for the remainder of the current fiscal year, and another $13 million in fiscal year 2024, reflecting lower recruitment and higher attrition than projected, the IBO report states. In January, the mayor's budget plan eliminated 282 more vacant school safety agent positions to reduce spending by $10 million to $21 million per year, bringing the current year's budget to $356 million.
Spending on school safety agents is budgeted to increase to $367 million by the end of the four-year financial plan in 2027, well below the budgeted level of $427 million in 2021, and short of the actual $395 million of spending in 2019 and 2020.
City Hall said the NYPD currently has 4,100 SSAs and that an additional 250 trainees are slated to start in April. "The safety of our students will always be a top priority for this administration," a City Hall spokesperson said in a statement.
"As with any agency, we will work with them to evaluate their needs through the budget process once they fill all budgeted positions, but, in the meantime, we will continue to build on the productive steps we have taken thus far andinvest in a holistic visionof public safety that keeps our youngest safe."
The NYPD had no immediate comment.

NYC DOT strikes out by misspelling 'Jakie' Robinson Parkway sign
February 26, 2023
The city Department of Transportation struck out on this one.
Big Apple DOT officials botched a Queens road sign for the Jackie Robinson Parkway, misspelling the color-barrier-busting baseball Hall of Famer's name.
The sign at Myrtle Avenue and Forest Park Drive features a likeness of the Brooklyn Dodgers' great - atop the words "Jakie Robinson Parkway."
"It's embarrassing," Glendale native Kira Incantalupo told The Post on Sunday. "Poor Jackie Robinson.
"That shouldn't have happened," said Incantalupo, 37. "I mean, nobody wants to have that. It's a memorial for somebody. It should be corrected."
Local resident Quana Martin, 32, found the typo disrespectful.
"I just feel it's a little odd because how do you not know how to spell his name? He's a well-known figure."Queens teen JP Ward had a harsher take.
"It's f-king stupid," the 17-year-old said. "I wouldn't say it's disrespectful, but it's definitely stupid."
Robinson became the first black ball player in Major League Baseball when he was called up by the Dodgers in 1947, breaking the sport's decades-old color barrier.
He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, a decade before his death.
"This spelling mistake is absurd," City Councilman Robert Holden added of the road-sign typo on Sunday. "You don't have a few eyes looking at these signs? DOT is a mess.
"This is a slap in the face. Jackie Robinson means a lot to me," the pol added. "I was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan!"
Notified of the botched road sign Sunday, red-faced New York City DOT officials said the gaffe would be fixed "immediately."
"That's just government," Queens waitress Aurora Terranova told The Post. "Most of the time s-t just goes wrong because of stupidity or oversightedness.
"That's really what it comes down to."

NYC Council considering naming Harlem street after Elijah Muhammad
January 30, 2023
The City Council is set to rename a Harlem street after Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad - a figure civil rights activists consider a bigot who promoted black separatism.
According to a street-naming list, the corner of West 127th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard would become "The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad Way."
The site is where Mosque Temple No. 7 - the Eastern regional headquarters of the Nation of Islam - is located.
The honor for Elijah Muhammad is among 128 street renamings on a list before the Council - which will vote on the entire list.
But naming an intersection for Elijah Muhammad along a section of Malcolm X. Boulevard is expected to raise eyebrows at a Tuesday public hearing.
==NYPD Patrolman Phillip Cardillo was killed by Nation of Islam radicals in 1972 at Mosque No. 7's previous location on 116h Street in 1972 while responding to a fake emergency call. No one has been convicted in the slaying.
Malcolm X was a protege of Elijah Muhammad, but the pair had a falling out and Malcolm X split from the Nation of Islam.==
Malcolm X was later assassinated by members of the black religious and nationalist organization in the Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21, 1965 with speculation continuing to rage over whether others, allegedly including Elijah Muhammad, ordered the hit.==
Muhammad denied any involvement but said days after the assassination that "Malcolm X got just what he preached."
Harlem democratic socialist Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan put in the request to honor Elijah Muhammad.
But Councilman Robert Holden (D-Queens) said the proposal to honor Elijah Muhammad should be removed from the list. The issue will be discussed at the Council's public hearing Tuesday.
"I'm going to oppose Elijah Muhammad. He was a black supremacist. He was a bad guy," Holden said. "It's an insult to Malcolm X Boulevard."

Boxes of unopened coronavirus food for poor found dumped in Queens
Piles of unopened boxes of emergency city coronavirus meals meant for the poor were found dumped on the side of a Queens underpass Monday.
The outrageous sign of waste - after Mayor Bill de Blasio predicted up to 2 million New Yorkers would go hungry this summer amid the pandemic - was enough to make passers-by sick.
"Why wouldn't you go give it to people in the streets?" local resident Juan Heno said of the 34 brown cardboard boxes of food piled on top of each other along a concrete wall below the Queens Midtown Expressway, around 57-45 74th St., in Middle Village.
"The city has a lot of homeless right now," Heno noted to The Post.
The resident said he spotted the boxes - slapped with white labels and black lettering reading, "GetFoodNYC, COVID-19 Emergency Food Distribution, Packed on July 24th, Delivery by July 31st" - in the broiling heat around 9:30 a.m.
He said he called the city's 311 hot line and was told someone would pick them up - but they were still laying out in the sun more than eight hours later.
Inside the boxes - part of the de Blasio administration's much-touted program to feed the hungry during the country's economic crisis - were plastic containers filled with food.
Some of the containers, marked "VEGETARIAN" and "CONTAINS NUTS," held a bag of multigrain pretzel Pepperidge Farm goldfish, what appeared to be a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich and a small plastic container with part of a granola bar.
Another meal package held dried fruit and nuts, a granola bar, dried edamame and a bagel in plastic with a small cream-cheese packet.
The office of local city Councilman Robert Holden told The Post that a constituent texted photos of the wasted food to them and that he was reaching out to the city to see what happened.
"This is absolutely inexcusable, no matter how this food got there," the councilman told The Post.
"So many New Yorkers have been desperate for a little extra food to help them get by during this pandemic, so it's unfathomable to see perfectly good meals go to waste like this. This demands a thorough investigation by City Hall immediately."
Neighborhood resident Sue Purcarin was just as distressed.
"It's supposed to go to people," she said of the food, which she saw by the side of the road in the afternoon. "This is horrible.
"Somebody didn't want to do their job, and they decided, 'OK, let me just dump it here.' "
The city Sanitation Department, which transports the food, said in a statement, "This is unacceptable, and no driver will be paid for incomplete deliveries.
"We have distributed over 100 million free emergency meals, but anyone who misses a delivery should let us know immediately at nyc.gov/getfood or by calling 311 so we can get them the food they need."

PUBLISHED: 07:52 EDT, 1 March 2019
Bill de Blasio's wife Chirlane McCray cannot explain where $850million given to the mental health program she champions has gone, according to reports.
In the three years it has been running, organizers at ThriveNYC have largely failed to keep records of the initiative's achievements - and data that has been collected shows it lagging well behind targets.
Despite that, the program has been granted an even bigger budget going forward and is now on track to spend $1billion over five years.
The data comes from a Politico report that shows those running the scheme have largely failed to measure its impact or keep track of spending.
Thrive said it has developed a list of 417 metrics to measure how effective the program is moving forward, but asked to assess its impact so far, Politico said the data was piecemeal and showed a largely failing picture.
For example, 29 hospitals had agreed to screen almost 78,000 new mothers for post-natal depression each year as part of the scheme.
But over the course of two years between 2016 and 2018 the hospital screened a little over 28,000 patients and just 570 were offered help, a fraction of the 12,000 to 15,000 who were estimated to need care.
The data also showed almost 190,000 Narcan kits were handed out to hospital where opioid use is common, but there is no evidence of how many were used.
The site said it had tried and failed to acquire a line-item budget from Thrive, and the two budget breakdowns it had seen showed wildly different numbers.
One, from from City Hall, showed $594million in spending, but a second, from the Independent Budget Office, showed $816milion.
Speaking to the Post, Queens Councilman Robert Holden told the New York Post: 'I like the fact that money is going toward mental health, but when they say we're seeing a benefit in all areas, I take exception to that, because I don't see it everywhere. I'm not sure anybody does.'
Meanwhile de Blasio announced earlier this week that he is mothballing his failed Renewal school program after spending $773million.
The aim of the scheme was to improve 100 of New York's worst schools, but after three years of trying, just 25 of them improved enough to make it off the list.
Meanwhile, the same number either closed or were merged with other schools while under the initiative.

De Blasio Makes His Wife Head of Coronavirus Racial Equity Task Force
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has named his wife, Chirlane McCray, to head the newly created Task Force on Racial Inclusion and Equity regarding the coronavirus, despite past controversy over how McCray, who is black, led the ThriveNYC initiative to address mental illness.
The task force comes in response to the high number of black Americans dying from the coronavirus, many of whom had underlying health issues.
"The economic and racial disparities that have been made so clear by this crisis, we knew about them before," de Blasio said in a New York Post article published Sunday. "A powerful, painful exclamation point has been put on them by this crisis."
The newspaper reported that making the city more equitable was one of de Blasio's campaign promises before his election as mayor six years ago:
Citing her work with the ThriveNYC initiative, de Blasio revealed Sunday that first lady Chirlane McCray, a rumored contender for Brooklyn borough president, would co-chair a Task Force on Racial Inclusion and Equity as the city plans its eventual reopening.
New York's poorest ZIP codes have been hardest hit by the pandemic, city data show, and minorities - many among the city's essential workers - have died at disproportionately higher rates.
But city lawmakers on both sides of the aisle were scratching their heads over the appointment of McCray in light of her signature Thrive program, criticized as a billion-dollar money pit with a dubious record of results.
"Chirlane doesn't have an impressive track record running task forces or agencies," said Councilman Joe Borelli (R-SI), who has fought City Hall over Thrive's alleged lack of help for the NYPD and cops committing suicides. "This is too serious an issue to use it as profile raiser."
Councilman Robert Holden said in the Post report that her appointment "reeks of political calculation by the mayor to up McCray's visibility ahead of a widely rumored run for Beep [president of the Brooklyn borough]."
"This is political," Holden, a Democrat, said. "I wish de Blasio would stop doing this."
"Let her win the Brooklyn borough presidency on her own merits," Holden said, adding, "Her track record on Thrive and the statue commission hasn't been so good."
"Putting @NYCFirstLady in charge of the newly created task force on racial inclusion and equity is a great idea, - said No One Ever," Councilman Eric Ulrich, a Queens Republican, tweeted on Sunday. "By the way, what ever happened to all that money for ThriveNYC?"
"The initiative has been beset for years by criticism over its 10-digit price tag and failure to make appreciable headway in helping New York's mentally ill," the Post reported.
The new task force will work to ensure "hardest-hit communities as well as minority- and women-owned businesses get their fair share of help as the city rebuilds from the pandemic."
The Post reported that McCray will not receive a salary for this position.

Chirlane McCray, wife of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, champions the ThriveNYC mental health program, but organizers cannot explain where its $850million budget has gone
