"I had a big vehicle at the time and we'd move him," said Droste, a longtime friend. "He was paying hefty tuitions for his daughters in school. … This is a man who understands a value of a dollar."
Second marriage
In 1995, Kerry's fortunes changed dramatically when he married Teresa Heinz, the widow of Sen. H. John Heinz III of Pennsylvania. His next disclosure report to the Senate included dozens of pages detailing Heinz's financial portfolio and some of the wedding presents they received, including a mirror with their wedding announcement framed on top from "Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Schwarzenegger" and a Baccarat flower vase from actor Clint Eastwood.
Kerry's wealth has been a political asset. In 1996, he lent or guaranteed his campaign $1.7 million to fend off a challenge from Massachusetts Republican Gov. William Weld. Late last year, he lent his campaign more than $6 million by mortgaging the six-story brick town house he owns with his wife in the tony Beacon Hill area.
Political foes have mocked Kerry's blue-blood image. An ad by a conservative advocacy group mimics a popular credit card slogan: "Another rich, liberal elitist from Massachusetts who claims he's a 'man of the people.' … Priceless."
Kerry's campaign acknowledges that while he grew up in a family that provided him with an Ivy League education, he chose to dedicate his life to public service.
"Before he even graduated from Yale he made the choice to sign up for war," campaign strategist Michael Meehan said. "He committed himself to public service when he had a lot of other choices available."

Andrew Stiles of the Washington Free Beacon writes that Glauthier:
"serves on the board of EnerNOC Inc., a company that provides demand-response services to electric utility firms. EnerNOC won a $10 million contract with the Department of Energy Resources in 2010 despite being underbid by competitors, the Boston Herald reported. Glauthier also served on the board of SunRun, a solar financing company that received a $6.7 million federal grant in 2010."
And in total, Glauthier adds, "Solazyme officials including Glauthier have contributed at least $360,000 to Democrats since 2007."
Wait, that's not all. The head of Solazyme's Washington lobbying office is Drew Littman, former chief of staff for Democratic Sen. Al Franken. Littman's old pal, entrenched D.C. lobbyist and Obama appointee Michael Meehan, feted Littman earlier this year and bragged that "we couldn't be more thrilled to be working on a daily basis with Drew and the Solazyme team."
Thanks to one of President Obama's executive orders, Solazyme secured a $12 million contract with the U.S. Navy to unload hundreds of thousands of gallons of biofuel - priced at an estimated four to seven times the normal cost of regular jet fuel.
This self-sustaining crony ecosystem, powered by administrative fiat and wealth redistribution, gives new meaning to the phrase "green crude."

Investigating the Montauk Monster: The Story Deepens!
July 30, 2008
In fact, this turned out to be true. A number of eyewitnesses say they saw the monster with their own eyes. "I saw the monster," says Michael Meehan, a 22-year-old waiter at the Surfside Inn, which sits above the beach where the monster washed up. "I just came walking down the beach and everyone was looking at it. No one knew what it was. It kind of looked like a dog, but it had this crazy-looking beak. I mean, I would freak out if something like that popped up next to me in the water."
So did anyone there, you know, do anything about it?
"This woman kept calling animal control," said Meehan. "She wanted to name it after herself. I think they came and got it. The carcass. Whatever it was."
But did they? The East Hampton branch of animal control referred Daily Intel to a supervisor who did not return calls for comment. And Navitski, of Evolutionary Media Group, says her friend's sister (who doesn't want to talk to the press, though Plum TV will host another woman, Jenna Hewitt, who claims she took a photo, tomorrow) says animal control never came. "They say an old guy came and carted it away," she said. "He said, 'I'm going to mount it on my wall.'"

ROLLESTON 1080 FACTORY: HAS NZ'S WEST COAST RC BEEN SQUANDERING RATEPAYER MONEY TO FACILITATE A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL'S BUSINESS INTERESTS?
JANUARY 20, 2020 PAM VERNON
WHY DID THE WEST COAST REGIONAL COUNCIL ACT AS BRIDGING FINANCE FOR THE 51% SHAREHOLDER OF THE ROLLESTON 1080 FACTORY? - Making a loss in the process it seems. What was wrong with using the bank?
By Carol Sawyer
The West Coast Regional Council made its initial investment in the Rolleston 1080 bait factory, Pest Control Research Ltd, in May, 2013, but did not disclose it until it was exposed by the Greymouth Star 17 months later.
See: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm...
This investment was made despite a 2010 - 2011 survey of homes in Ross, Hokitika, Hari Hari and Whataroa finding 92.5% were against their council being involved with 1080 in any manner. (Greymouth Star, 14 November, 2017)
By 2 September, 2016, the West Coast Regional Council had sunk $2,105,000 into the Rolleston factory! It was still only making prefeed baits and Pindone at this stage, and did not get consent to make 1080 baits until May, 2018.
See: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm...
The West Coast Regional Council has had a 49% share in the business since 2013 with, until 6 July, 2018, the 51% share being held by Malcolm Thomas, who had previously worked for the NZ government entity Landcare Research NZ Ltd.
See: https://www.stuff.co.nz/.../1080-factory-given-west-coast-reg...
(Pest Control Research Ltd at present has three directors - Michael Meehan, who is also CEO of the West Coast Regional Council, Matthew O'Brien, and John Wilson of Wanaka.) See: https://opencorporates.com/companies/nz/4460339
On 29 June, 2018, the West Coast Regional Council bought the 51% share in the factory from Malcolm Thomas, meaning they now owned the factory OUTRIGHT.

On 29 June, 2018, the West Coast Regional Council bought the 51% share in the factory from Malcolm Thomas, meaning they now owned the factory OUTRIGHT.
As you can see from the attached image from the 2018 annual report, the stated intention was to dispose of the newly acquired 51% share at year end ( i.e. a day later, on 30 June, 2018 ?!). However this did not happen and the WCRC sold it on 6 July, 2018, one week later, to Matthew O'Brien of Kiwicare Corporation Ltd.
Why did Council buy it from Malcolm Thomas to sell to Matthew O'Brien, instead of letting the two sort it out themselves? I was told by someone in Council that it was to help out with bridging finance. Surely it isn't the Regional Council's job to squander the ratepayers money to facilitate some private individual's business interests? PLUS… the annual report for the year ended 2018 states "Impairment on transfer held for sale - $272,549". I am not an accountant but it would appear that the ratepayers took a loss of $272,549 over that transaction, for holding the business in its entirety for a week.
Normally if a businessman required bridging finance they would go to the bank. Was this too risky, and if so why were the ratepayers obliged to take the risk and bear the loss?
As regional councils go, $272,549 would generally not be a large amount of money, but one must remember that the West Coast Regional Council has the smallest ratepayer base in the country, with a total West Coast population of 32,000, and only approximately 10,000 ratepayers.

During proceedings, jurors were played a video recording of the evidence given by the 22-year-old victim who was blackmailed by Downing. He told the court of how he and Downing had consensual sex but this stopped.
The man, who can't be identified for legal reasons, told the court that Downing's reaction to this decision "terrified" him. The court heard that Downing threatened the man by telling him that if he didn't change his mind, he would tell the police of how the victim had "raped" him.
Downing said they had messages from the man that "proved" that he had sexually assaulted him. He added: "I felt trapped. I shouldn't have let it get to that point. He said that he would ruin my life. He said he would use them to put me behind bars.
"He was going to tell my friends and family that I was a rapist and that I had done something wrong."
The jury were also shown messages that Downing sent to the victim. One message read: "I don't care if you're not ready make yourself ready."
'Bit of a loaded gun'
Another message read of how Downing wanted his victim to continue having sex with him. It read: "You should want that with all of your f*g being because the alternative is losing me from your life and most likely facing a court case for RAPING me."
One woman who was targeted by Downing spoke of how Downing was a "bit of a loaded gun" who could get "personal" and "nasty" with people. Speaking about the abuse she suffered, the witness added: "He would touch me inappropriately, like groping. It was mostly my breasts that he would touch, maybe some groping elsewhere. A lot of it I have filtered out."
The woman, now aged 24, said she attended a New Year party in January 2018 at a friend's home when she was still a teenager and Downing was among those present. She said Downing came up to her and told her a boy had said he thought she was "hot" until she discovered food.
She said: "It devastated me because I had quite a few body issues."
On Tuesday, defence advocate Michael Meehan KC told judge Stirling that the sentencing guidelines for young people applied in his client's case.
Judge Stirling decided that Downing's risk meant that he had to go jail. She also told him he'd be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period.

Ex-SNP activist who 'wanted to beat feminists' jailed for sexually assaulting young adults
Cameron Downing preyed on his victims at locations across Scotland and 'repeatedly blackmailed' one of his victims.
Douglas Barrie
14 JUN 2024
A former SNP activist who once tweeted how he wanted "beat the f**k" out of feminists has been jailed for sexually assaulting six young adults.
Cameron Downing, 24, preyed on his victims at locations across Scotland during a course of conduct which began when he was just 16-years-old. The High Court in Edinburgh heard how the abuse continued until February 2023.
Police learned about his activities and launched a probe. But the court heard that during the probe, officers discovered how Downing 'repeatedly blackmailed' one of the men he preyed on. He told his victim that if he didn't engage in sexual activity with him, he'd make an allegation to the police about how he had been raped by the man.
The witness told the court that Downing said he'd also contact his friends, family and employer and make the false rape allegation to them. The man, who is now aged 22, gave evidence and said he felt "trapped" by Downing's threat.
Downing, a former Drama student and an equalities convenor for the SNP's London branch, spent his trial denying any wrongdoing.
Downing, who told the jury in their evidence that they identified as being non binary, said he hadn't been threatening the male and was battling 'complex' mental health issues at the time of the abuse. But on Friday afternoon, after two days of deliberations, jurors found Downing, of Willowbrae, Edinburgh, guilty on charges of sexual and physical assault.
Defence advocate Michael Meehan KC said his client was a first offender and asked for Downing, whose pronouns are he and they, for bail ahead of a sentencing hearing next month.
But judge Alison Stirling remanded Downing in custody and told them: "Your status has changed. I will adjourn sentence to obtain a criminal justice social work report and you will be remanded in custody."
It is not the first time that Downing has came to public attention. He's a former drama student who has acted in Edinburgh fringe productions. He also worked as an NHS contact tracer during the pandemic.
In 2022, it emerged that Downing tweeted about how he wanted to "beat the f* out of some terfs and transphobes". He also tweeted "I f**** hate terfs and transphobes with such a passion."
The tweets caused Harry Potter author JK Rowling to say: "Nicola Sturgeon's Scotland: A place where an equalities officer feels free to declare in public how much he wants to beat up non-compliant women."
The comments made by Downing came to light after he had been elected as equalities officer for the SNP's London branch in October 2022. He later resigned from the post. A photograph also emerged of Downing posing with former first minister Nicola Sturgeon at an SNP conference in Aberdeen.
The remarks made by Downing prompted SNP MP Joanna Cherry, a gender-critical feminist who has herself been called a transphobe for her positions on sex and gender, to condemn the remarks. She said the remarks were "foul and violent" and accused Downing of being "misogynistic".
During proceedings, jurors were played a video recording of the evidence given by the 22-year-old victim who was blackmailed by Downing. He told the court of how he and Downing had consensual sex but this stopped.
